COOLANT TEMPERATURE TO HIGH WARNING. THIS WARNING CAME UP AFTER MY TRUCK SAT WITHOUT BEING DRIVEN FOR 12 PLUS HOURS. I PUT THE KEY IN IT AND STARTED THE TRUCK TRIED TO DRIVE IT. THE TRUCK WILL NOT GO OVER 15 MILES. THE ACTUAL COOLANT GAUGE IS ON BLUE, THE COOL SIDE, BUT THIS WARNING IS STILL GOING OFF.
AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN I T-BONES A VEHICLE SPEED WAS AROUND 45 MILES AN HOUR I WAS DRIVING DOWN S. 2ND ST. IN RATON NEW MEXICO APPROACHING HERFORD AVENUE WHEN A VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME I TRIED STOPPING BUT I COULD NOT I T-BONES THE VEHICLE THE AIRBAGS ON MY TRUCK DID NOT DEPLOYI DID HAVE A POLICE REPORT DONE AND BOTH INSURANCE COMPANIES WERE INVOLVED I DO NOT HAVE THE REPAIR COST OR IF THEY'RE GOING TO TOTAL MY TRUCK I WILL HAVE TO GET BACK TO YOU GUYS ON THAT
THIS MORNING STARTED CAR AND TURNED ON REAR WINDOW DEFROST. LEFT CAR FOR 5 MINUTES TO WARM UP. WHEN I CAME BACK CAB WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE. I CUT ENGION. WHEN SMOKE CLEARED I SAW THE LEFT AND RIGHT REAR WINDOW PANELS WERE SMASHED. AFTER GOOGLING THIS IT TURNS OUT TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST MECHANISM OVERHEATS AND SHATTERS WINDOWS.
MOMENTS AFTER TURNING ON MY CAR AND THE HEATER, MY KIDS STARTED COMPLAINING OF A STRONG BURNING SMELL. WE DROVE THE 5 MINUTES TO SCHOOL, THEN I DROVE 5 MINUTES HOME. BY THE TIME I ARRIVED HOME, MY BACK WINDOW WAS CRACKED AND STARTING TO BREAK AND THERE WAS A VERY STRONG BURNING SMELL. YOU COULD ALSO HEAR A CRACKLING SOUND NEAR THE BACK WINDOW. THIS WAS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.
WHEN ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ON AND PASSING A SEMI SOMETIMES THE TRUCK BRAKES SHARPLY SLOWING DOWN
I HAVE A 2016 FORD F150. 4 TIMES NOW THE AUTO BREAKING SYSTEM ENGAGED FOR NO REASON. 3 OF THE TIMES I WAS DRIVING IN CRUISE CONTROL DOWN A STRAIGHT SECTION OF HIGHWAY 80 GOING TO LAKE TAHOE, THE AUTO BREAKING SYSTEM ENGAGED FOR NO REASON WHILE PASSING A SEMI TRUCK. THE LATEST AUTO BREAKING EPISODE ALMOST KILLED US, WE WERE DRIVING BACK FROM LAKE TAHOE ON HWY 80, (CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT NO), WHEN WE WERE PASSING A SEMI TRUCK ON A CURVE IN THE TWO LANE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 70 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE AUTO BREAKING SYSTEM ENGAGED FOR NO REASON AND SLOWED OUR TRUCK DOWN FORM 70 TO ABOUT 35 MILES PER HOUR IN JUST 1-2 SECONDS....I WAS NOT ABLE TO OVERRIDE BY FLOORING THE ACCELERATOR FOR AT LEAST 2-4 SECONDS....A SEMI TRUCK BEHIND US CAME WITHIN INCHES FROM REAR ENDING US!! THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY FORD. ITS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE!!
SUNROOF TRACKS ARE PLASTIC AND CRUMBLE AND BREAK CAUSING THE SUNROOF TO BE STUCK OPEN OR INOPERABLE. APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL F150'S BASED ON INTERNET RESEARCH.
THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. HAD NO THROTTLE. PULLED OFF ROAD VEHICLE WAS IDLING ERRATICALLY STILL NO THROTTLE MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS. SHUT VEHICLE OFF, RESTARTED, ALL TROUBLE LIGHTS WERE OFF EXCEPT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. VEHICLE RAN OK FOR A WHILE. THIS HAPPENED 7 MORE TIMES WITHIN 150 MILES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, IF I HAD BEEN IN TRAFFIC I WOULD NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. GOT THE VEHICLE TO FORD. THEY CLEARED ALL THE CODES AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THEY WANTED ME TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE, I REFUSED. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND FOUND MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE FIX WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I PASSED THIS INFO ON TO THE FORD DEALER. THEY REPLACED MY THROTTLE BODY, PROBLEM FIXED. I WAS LUCKY, I HAD 150 MILES LEFT ON MY WARRANTY, MOST OTHERS DIDN'T.
I WAS TRAVELING ON I-96 HIGHWAY IN MICHIGAN, AND JUST GOT ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS CRUISING ALONG AT ABOUT 70 MPH (TEMP OUTSIDE 75). AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES, I HEARD A LOUD POP SOUND THAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT EXPLOSION. I LOOKED BACK AT THE REAR GLASS, AND IT HAD SHATTERED. THE TEMPERED GLASS WAS STILL INTACT HOWEVER IT WAS MAKING A LOUD CRACKLING SOUND. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY IMMEDIATELY AND PARKED IN A PARKING LOT. I TOOK PICTURES OF THE GLASS AND NOTICED IT WAS BILLOWING OUTWARD FROM THE TRUCK, AND THE OUTER EDGES WERE JAGGED AND BROKEN. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF IMPACT BY A ROCK OR ANY OTHER OBJECT THAT COULD HAVE HIT THE GLASS. I DECIDED IT WAS BEST TO GO TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD TO HAVE THE INCIDENT DOCUMENTED. UPON CLOSING MY DOOR TO GET BACK INTO THE TRUCK, 2/3 OF THE SHATTERED GLASS FELL AND SPREAD OUT ALL OVER THE BACK TONNEAU COVER OF THE TRUCK. CLEARLY INDICATING THE PRESSURE OF THE BREAK WENT "OUTWARD" FROM THE TRUCK CABIN. THE FORD DEALER BODY SHOP MANAGER TOOK PICTURES AND TOLD ME HE WOULD FILE A CLAIM ON MY BEHALF WITH FORD. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN WITH LEARNING THAT FORD HAS HAD A PROBLEM FOR YEARS WITH THIS HAPPENING TO THEIR TRUCKS AND SUVS, AND I WANTED THIS INFORMATION PASSED ON TO THE CORPORATE LEVEL. I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE TRUCK SAFELY TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP LOCALLY, AND THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE REPLACED MANY REAR GLASS SECTIONS IN FORD TRUCKS THAT BROKE WITHOUT AN OBJECT IMPACTING IT. I THINK THERE IS A SUBSTANTIAL CASE HERE TO BE BUILT AGAINST FORD. YES, THE GLASS WAS NOT DANGEROUS, AND THANK GOODNESS MY SON WAS NOT IN THE TRUCK AT THE TIME. HOWEVER IF THIS REALLY IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH FORD, IT'S TIME FOR A RECALL OR A LIFETIME WARRANTY BY THE COMPANY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SCENIC MOTORS (LOCATED AT 1992 ROCKFORD ST, MT AIRY, NC 27030, (336) 789-9591) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT A FAILURE CODE COULD NOT BE FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE WARRANTY WAS ABOUT TO EXPIRE. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD F-150. AFTER ACTIVATING THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER, THE REAR DEFROSTER WIRING BEGAN TO SMOKE. MOMENTS LATER, THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FIVE STAR FORD (6618 NE LOOP 820, NORTH RICHLAND, TX) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DEFROSTER WIRING WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
DRIVING DOWN ROAD. STARTED SMELLING FUNNY SMELL AND SMOKE IN CAB. TURNED AROUND TO GO BACK HOME. PULLED INTO DRIVEWAY AND BACK WINDOW EXPLODED. REAR DEFROST WAS ON.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND MY TRUCK COMPLETELY SHUT OFF I MANAGED TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND GOT IT STARTED AGAIN. IT DID IT AGAIN DOWN THE ROAD. I MADE IT TO WORK HOPING THAT IT WAS JUST A GLITCH. IT DID IT AGAIN ON MY WAY HOME NEARLY CAUSING A COLLISION, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE TRUCK STATED UP AGAIN. IT DID IT SEVERAL TIMES AND IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME BECAUSE I HAVE MY FAMILY IN MY VEHICLE MOST OF THE TIME. I DID FURTHER RESEARCH AND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. MY QUESTION IS WHY FORD HAS NOT ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. IS EVERYONE WAITING FOR IT TO BE A FATALITY OR SOMEONE END UP SERIOUSLY INJURED. SOMEONE NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE IN OCTOBER OF 2018. MCLAUGHLIN FORD (950 N MAIN ST, SUMTER, SC 29150) WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD ORDER THE PARTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT. *TT CONSUMER BOUGHT TRUCK FROM A PRIVATE OWNER. CONSUMER HAS REPORTED A RECALL ON OCT 2018 BUT STILL HAS NOT RECEIVED AN APPOINTMENT.*JB
DRIVING ON A BYPASS HIGHWAY, THE BRAKES FAILED, AND I ALMOST REAR ENDED SOMEONE. LIGHT CAME ON, ADDED FLUID, THEN AGAIN THEY FAILED. I HAVE THE VEHICLE AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP NOW. I HAVE JUST OVER 40K MILES ON THE TRUCK, THIS REPAIR BETTER BE COVERED BY FORD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD F-150. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE SEAT BELTS FAILED TO RETRACT PROPERLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT SEIZED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN THE SEVERITY OF TIGHTNESS AROUND THE BODY, SPECIFICALLY THE NECKS OF THE PASSENGERS. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT BELT EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEGREE OF SEVERITY ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. FURTHERMORE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT AND CAUSED MORE THAN ONE OCCUPANT TO EXPERIENCE THE FEELING OF BEING CHOKED BY THE REAR SEAT BELT RETRACTING MECHANISM. VAUGHN FORD LINCOLN OAKDALE (835 US-165, OAKDALE, LOUISIANA 71463, (318) 335-0710) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
MY REAR SEAT DOOR LOCK PULL BUTTONS ON BOTH SIDES WERE NOT SCREWED INTO THE MECHANISM. THIS WOULD NOT ALLOW THE PASSENGER TO EXIT THE VEHICLE BY OVERRIDING THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS. THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM IN AN EMERGENCY. I FIXED IT BY SCREWING THE PLASTIC POST INTO THE THREADED MECHANISM.
THROTTLE BODY FAILURE ON ENGINE AT 48,526 MILES. WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC ON CITY SURFACE STREETS, DEPRESSED ACCELERATOR, TRUCK BEGAN TO ACCELERATE THEN SUDDENLY STOPPED. VEHICLE WOULD IDLE FORWARD ONLY. RETURNED FAULT CODE OF P2112, ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. REPLACED THROTTLE BODY WITH NEW FORD PART AND VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. UNSAFE VEHICLE CONDITIONS DUE TO SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER IN TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. SUDDEN FAILURE OCCURRED, NO OTHER SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS OF PROBLEMS PRIOR TO INCIDENT.
THE TAILGATE OPENS ON ITS OWN RANDOMLY WHILE PARKED AND WHEN MOVING. THIS FIRST STARTED HAPPENING IN THE FALL OF 2018 AND I STILL ON GOING AND HAPPEN TO ME AGAIN THIS WEEKEND 1/14/2020 FORD HAD ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON 2017 AND NEWER TRUCKS BUT MINE IS NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL. HOW DO I GET IT ADDED TO THE RECALL TO FIX THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. THE RECALL COVERS F-250, F-350 AND F-450 TRUCKS FROM THE 2017 THROUGH 2019 MODEL YEARS. ALL THE TRUCKS HAVE ELECTRIC TAILGATE LATCH RELEASE SWITCHES IN THE TAILGATE HANDLE. FORD SAYS WATER CAN GET INTO THE ELECTRICAL WIRING AND CAUSE A SHORT CIRCUIT, ACTIVATING THE SWITCHES AND RELEASING THE LATCHES. THAT COULD ALLOW LOOSE CARGO TO FALL ONTO THE ROAD.
I HAVE A 2016 FORD F-150 WITH ROUGHLY 40,000 MILES ON IT. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE SINCE SEPTEMBER 16TH, WITH A STEERING ISSUE. THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST STEERING (EPAS) WENT OUT ON THE TRUCK DRIVING HOME FROM COSTCO THAT EVENING WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD SON AND GIRLFRIEND IN THE CAR, I ATTEMPTED TO TAKE A RIGHT TURN AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP ON ME, NEARLY CAUSING US TO CRASH. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO BILL BRANDT FORD IN BRENTWOOD CA, BUT THEY WANTED $170.00 JUST TO DIAGNOSE IT, SO I DECLINED THE SERVICE BECAUSE I HAVE A FRIEND THAT IS A MECHANIC FOR TRI DELTA TRANSIT AND HE WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE IT FOR FREE. HE FOUND OUT IT WAS THE EPAS, AND THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE RACK AND PINION, WHICH IS ABOUT A $1,300.00 PART. THIS ISSUE SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ON SUCH A NEW VEHICLE, BUT SINCE I AM 4,000 MILES OVER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY FOR THE NEW PART FOR MY TRUCK. THE ISSUE WITH FORD IS, SINCE THE TRUCK IS SO NEW THERE ARE NO OTHER COMPANIES CARRYING THAT PART BESIDES FORD AT THE MOMENT. I CALLED THEIR PARTS SERVICE AROUND SEPTEMBER 20TH TO ORDER THE PART BUT THEY STATED IT WAS ON BACK ORDER UNTIL OCTOBER 9TH AND WERE NOT TAKING ANY ORDERS. I PATIENTLY WAITED UNTIL OCTOBER 9TH AND CALLED BACK TO ORDER IT AND THEY SAID IT HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK TO LATE OCTOBER AND TO CALL BACK AT THE END OF THE MONTH. THIS IS A REAL BIG INCONVIENCE FOR ME ESPECIALLY BEING EMPLOYED AND HAVING A YOUNG CHILD, I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR ALMOST A FULL MONTH NOW. I'VE REACHED OUT TO FORD AND TALKED TO THEIR REGIONAL MANAGER TRYING TO EXPLAIN THE ISSUE AND IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME, LIKE A RENTAL CAR OR GET THE PART ASAP FOR ME, BUT SHE STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. AFTER DOING EXTENSIVE RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS STEERING DEFECT IS A PRETTY COMMON ISSUE FORD F-150 OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING.
AFTER USING MY WINSHIELD WIPER ON 09/11/2018 IN THE MORNING, THEY DO NOT TURN OFF. ANY TIME THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE ENGAGED, WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY, THEY FAIL TO PROPERLY TURN OFF AFTER USE AND CONTINUE TO STAY ON FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME OR UNTIL VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF, WHERE THEY CONTINUE ONCE THE VEHICLE IS RESTARTED. THIS HAS BECOME A DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY DURING CONDITIONS THAT DO NOT REQUIRE THE USE OF WIPERS OR WHEN THE USE OF WIPERS CAUSES A LARGER ISSUE BY FURTHER SMEARING SUBSTANCES THAT CANNOT BE SAFELY REMOVED BY THEM SUCH AS OILY LIQUIDS OR OTHER SUBSTANCES THAT REQUIRE A DIFFERENT WAY OF REMOVAL. THERE IS ALSO THE RISK OF WIPERS NOT SHUTTING OFF DURING CIRCUMSTANCES, SUCH AS DURING A CARWASH WHERE THEY CAN BE PERMANENTLY DAMAGED AND RENDERED INOPERABLE WHEN ACTUALLY NEEDED DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER.

ANY TIME THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE ENGAGED, WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY, THEY FAIL TO PROPERLY TURN OFF AFTER USE AND CONTINUE TO STAY ON FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME OR UNTIL VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF, WHERE THEY CONTINUE ONCE THE VEHICLE IS RESTARTED. THIS HAS BECOME A DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY DURING CONDITIONS THAT DO NOT REQUIRE THE USE OF WIPERS OR WHEN THE USE OF WIPERS CAUSES A LARGER ISSUE BY FURTHER SMEARING SUBSTANCES THAT CANNOT BE SAFELY REMOVED BY THEM SUCH AS OILY LIQUIDS OR OTHER SUBSTANCES THAT REQUIRE A DIFFERENT WAY OF REMOVAL. THERE IS ALSO THE RISK OF WIPERS NOT SHUTTING OFF DURING CIRCUMSTANCES, SUCH AS DURING A CARWASH WHERE THEY CAN BE PERMANENTLY DAMAGED AND RENDERED INOPERABLE WHEN ACTUALLY NEEDED DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER.
AFTER USING MY WINSHIELD WIPER ON 09/09/2018 IN THE MORNING, THEY DO NOT TURN OFF. ANY TIME THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE ENGAGED, WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY, THEY FAIL TO PROPERLY TURN OFF AFTER USE AND CONTINUE TO STAY ON FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME OR UNTIL VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF, WHERE THEY CONTINUE ONCE THE VEHICLE IS RESTARTED. VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY AT ALL TIMES PRIOR TO EVENT. 38,111 MILES ON VEHICLE. APPROX. 4 MILE DRIVE TO HIGHWAY, BRAKES WORKING NORMALLY. WHILE TRAVELING 70MPH (THE LEGAL LIMIT THERE), WARNING LIGHT APPEARED. I IMMEDIATELY TAPPED BRAKES AND FOUND THAT PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR. MANAGED TO GET TO SHOULDER WITHOUT ACCIDENT. DROVE GINGERLY TO SERVICE STATION TO EXAMINE. NO LEAKAGE AT CALIPERS, ON ROTORS OR FROM ANY BRAKE LINES. BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR EMPTY. HAD BEEN FULL PREVIOUSLY AND VEHICLE WELL MAINTAINED. I FILLED RESERVOIR WITH DOT APPROPRIATE BRAKE FLUID, NO CHANGE IN BRAKING ABILITY. WITH PUMPING OF PEDAL, NO EFFECT. WITH PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR, VEHICLE EXHIBITED EXTREMELY ATTENUATED BRAKING (TOOK WELL OVER 30 FEET TO SLOW FROM 10 MPH TO ZERO). TRUCK TO FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT/BAY. THEY TOLD ME THAT "WE SEE ONE OF THESE ABOUT EVERY WEEK" WHICH I FOUND SHOCKING. THEY RAPIDLY DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE WITH BLEED OF FLUID INTO BOOSTER SYSTEM (WHICH IS WHY NO PRESSURE, BUT NO LEAKAGE OF FLUID EXTERNALLY). THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE BOOSTER. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. FORTUNATELY, I DID NOT INJURE OR KILL ANYONE WHEN BRAKES FAILED AT HIGHWAY SPEED.

WHEN LEAVING STORE WAS BACKING UP AND ALMOST HIT A CAR MY WARNING SENSOR DIDN'T GO OFF NOW I NOTICED THAT ALL OF MY SAFETY DEVICES ON THIS TRUCK WAS NOT WORKING. NOW I'M WONDERING IF MY AIRBAGS ARE ACTIVE. DROVE BACK HOME FROM VIRGINIA TO TENNESSEE ABOUT 6 HR DRIVE VERY CARFULY. NEXT DAY STRAIGHT TO FORD DEALER AND IS STILL THERE AS I'M WRITING THIS. HORN NOT WORKING. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2016 FORD F-150 IN 2016. I AM THE FIRST AND ONLY OWNER AND I NOTICED 2 DAYS AGO MY HORN ALL OF A SUDDEN STOPPED WORKING WHEN I PRESS ON THE HORN BUT IT WILL SOUND WHEN I HIT MY ALARM BUTTON ON MY KEY FOB. AFTER SOME RESEARCH (WITHIN GOOGLE AND F-150 FORUMS) A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS AND HAVING TO REPLACE THEIR CLOCK SPRINGS.
I DROVE MY TRUCK TO MY FARM WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER BEING PARKED FOR A WHILE, MY SON-IN-LAW GOT IN TO DRIVE TO A WORK AREA AND IMMEDIATELY REPORTED THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. WE CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL AND IT WAS ALMOST EMPTY, EVEN THOUGH I HAD RECENTLY HAD THE LEVEL CHECKED AS "FULL" AT A CHANGE OF OIL AND FILTER. IT TOOK TWO LARGE BOTTLES OF BRAKE FLUID (AT OVER $8.00 EACH, JUST TO GET IT HOME (ABOUT 50 MILES). I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES DURING THIS TRIP TO GET BRAKING ACTION AND DRIVE VERY CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY. THE DAY BEFORE THIS HAPPENED I HAD TOWED A SINGLE AXLE TRAILER WITH AN AGRICULTURAL DISC ON IT. HAD THIS QUICK LOSS OF BRAKES OCCURRED AT THAT TIME, IT LIKELY WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, AND EVEN DEATH. THE SHOP WHERE I TOOK IT REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER, THE POWER BOOSTER, WHICH HAD FILLED WITH FLUID, AND AN O2 SENSOR, WHICH HAD BEEN DAMAGED. THE TOTAL COST WAS $1194.34. SINCE ALL THE PARTS WERE REPLACED WITH NEW FORD BRAND PARTS, THERE IS A LIKELIHOOD THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE AND MERITS A RECALL, AS WELL AS REIMBURSEMENT TO ME OF MY EXPENSES.

THIS MORNING AS HE WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 50 ' 60 MPH SOUTH ON HWY 111 IN COMING INTO LIVINGSTON TN. HE LET OF THE GAS PREPARING TO VEER RIGHT ON THE 111 BYPASS, HIS BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES HIS FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE WAS ABSOLUTELY ZERO THERE FOR HIM TO STOP THE TRUCK. LUCKILY THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 6 AM AND THERE WAS NO ONE ON THE ROAD AND IT WAS IN A PLACE THAT HE HAD ROOM AND TIME TO SHIFT DOWN AND DECREASE HIS SPEED AND PULL OVER. ONE MILE FURTHER AND THIS COULD HAVE HAD A VERY DIFFERENT ENDING. HE WAS ON HIS WAY TO PICK UP A BOAT.. SO THIS WAS THREE HOURS LATER THIS COULD HAVE HAD AN EXTREMELY DIFFERENT ENDING. DID I MENTION HE 81 YEARS OLD. THERE WAS LITTLE TO NO WARNING, THE LIGHT CAME ON JUST AS HE WAS GETTING READY TO MAKE HIS TURN. THIS COULD HAVE TURNED OUT VERY BAD.
WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY ERROR/MAINTENANCE ALARMS GO OFF AND THE TRUCK WILL DROP TO A ROUGH IDLE (TOTAL LOSS OF POWER), IS NOT RESPONSIVE TO THROTTLE INPUT, AND MULTIPLE ALARM MESSAGES ARE DISPLAYED. IN EVERY CASE, I HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER, SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN, WAIT UNTIL ALL SYSTEMS HAVE POWERED DOWN, AND RESTART THE TRUCK. IN THE PAST AND THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE, SOMETIMES THIS ONLY OCCURS ONCE BUT IN A COUPLE OF INSTANCES IT WILL OCCUR A COUPLE OF TIMES IN A ROW BEFORE RESUMING NORMAL OPERATION. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION- TOTAL LOSS OF POWER WHILE IN TRAFFIC ON BUSY ROADS. FORD HAS DIAGNOSED AS AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILURE AND REFUSED TO COVER THIS ON WARRANTY (OUT OF WARRANTY 3 MOS) AND IT HAS TAKEN MUCH RESEARCH ON MY PART TO DISCOVER THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH FORD ETB'S GOING BACK SOME TIME WITH OVER 60K FAILURE REPORTS OVER MANY DIFFERENT VEHICLES.

I DECIDED TO CONTINUE THE REMAINING 15 MINUTES OF MY TRIP SINCE THE BRAKES SEEMED TO BE FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY AND THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC, AS IT WAS 4:30AM ON A SUNDAY MORNING, BUT I PROCEEDED WITH CAUTION. WHEN EXITING THE FREEWAY, I DECIDED TO BRAKE EARLY IN THE EVENT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, BUT AGAIN THE BRAKING FELT ABSOLUTELY NORMAL, NOT EVEN THE SLIGHTEST HINT OF ANY BRAKE LOSS. I THEN TRAVELED ABOUT 11 MILES WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 65 MPH, THERE WAS NO NEED FOR STOPPING OR SLOWING AT ANY POINT DURING THIS STRETCH. NEARING MY TURN, I AGAIN DECIDED IT WOULD BE BEST TO REMAIN CAUTIOUS AND BRAKE EARLY. IT WAS AT THIS POINT THAT I COULD TELL SOMETHING WAS WRONG, AS THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD VERY LITTLE STOPPING POWER AS I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR, ONLY SLOWING FROM 65 MPH TO ABOUT 25 MPH OVER A DISTANCE APPROACHING A QUARTER MILE. AFTER THIS, THE BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY OUT AT THIS POINT. I HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH MOVING TRUCKS WITH NO BRAKES, USING ONLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, SO I FELT CONFIDENT CONTINUING THE SHORT DISTANCE TO MY HOME USING SLOW SPEEDS (>15 MPH), MANUALLY SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION FOR ENGINE BRAKING AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME WITH NO INCIDENT. INSPECTED BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR, FOUND IT WAS EMPTY BUT FOUND NO SIGN OF A LEAK. I FIGURED THE MASTER CYLINDER LEAKED INTERNALLY, WHICH THE DEALER CONFIRMED. BOTH PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIR WERE ON A NATIONAL BACK-ORDER, UNAVAILABLE FROM FORD. A LITTLE SEARCH ON GOOGLE REVEALS THIS FAILURE IS COMMON ON 2013-16 F-150. DEALER LOCATED PARTS FROM OTHER DEALERS STOCK, BUT VEHICLE WAS OUT OF SERVICE 10 DAYS.
2016 F-150 TRUCK STALLS OR TURNS OFF WHEN YOU ARE SLOWING DOWN OR COMING TO A STOP ON ANY ROAD. IT IDLES ROUGH MOSTLY WHEN YOU SLOW DOWN OR STOP BUT NOW THE ENGINE HAS TURNED OFF 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. IT STARTED AT 60,000 MILES AND ABOUT TO HIT 70,000 NOW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 80 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING FOUND FAILURE CODES FOR THE TURBO, INDICATING THAT THE AIR FUEL MIXTURE WAS RICH. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS UNAWARE OF HOW TO REMEDY THE FAILURE, BUT FOUND THAT THE BOLT ON THE EXHAUST HAD FRACTURED DUE TO RUST FROM AN UNKNOWN LEAK. THE BOLT WAS REPLACED, BUT THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. THE CONTACT CALLED CARLSBAD FORD (2802 W PIERCE ST, CARLSBAD, NM 88220, (575) 885-3101) AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A CALL BACK TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 92,000.
