THE FORD F250 TRUCK (2001) WAS PARKED OUTSIDE OF HEB GROCERY STORE FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES WHEN WITNESSES SAW SPARKS SHOOTING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE SECONDS BEFORE IT CAUGHT FIRE. THE ENTIRE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BURNED AND BEGAN TO CONSUME THE CAB BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE FORD F250 CRUISE CONTROL WAS USED THE PREVIOUS TWO DAYS AND WAS HAVING INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS DURING A TRIP (~900 MILES). *TR

MY FORD F-250 HAD BEEN PARKED OUTSIDE MY SONS HOME FOR APPROX 2 HRS. WHEN A NEIGHBOR INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPT. WAS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH IT. THERE WAS NOTHING SALVAGEABLE. *TR
INVOLVED IN A SINGLE VEHICLE ROLLOVER, CAUSED BY TIRE TREAD SEPARATION ACCORDING TO STATE POLICE, TIRE TREAD CAME OF, TIRE STILL HAS AIR IN IT, VEHICLE IS TOTALED, FOUND PIECE THAT CAME OFF TIRE IS A (GENERAL AMERITRAC TR LT235/85R16) SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES DUE TO ROLLOVER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F250. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, THE OWNER HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE. HE WENT OUTSIDE AND NOTICED FLAMES UNDERNEATH THE HOOD OF HIS VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE SIDING MELTED OFF OF THE HOUSE AND SOME OF HIS WORK MATERIALS AND TREES NEXT TO THE HOUSE WERE BURNED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V286000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) WAS DISCOVERED; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT DISCLOSE WHETHER OR NOT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED. THE OWNER WAS INFORMED THAT AN INVESTIGATOR MAY INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 90,000.
SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT ON MY 2001 FORD F250 5.4 LITER ENGINE.*TR
AFTER TRAVELING OVER SMALL BUMPS, LIKE RAILROAD TRACKS MOST RECENTLY, AT AROUND 30MPH, ONE FRONT WHEEL STARTED BOUNCING VIOLENTLY, MAKING VEHICLE LOOSE CONTROL UNTIL TRUCK COULD BE BROUGHT TO A STOP. HAD EXPERIENCED THIS NUMEROUS TIME IN THE PAST BUT THOUGHT PROBLEM WAS SOLVED BY ADDING A STEERING STABILIZER A FEW YEARS AGO. PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. EACH TIME, THIS HAS NEARLY RESULTED IN A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-250. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING RAINY WEATHER, THE GENERAL ELECTRIC MODULE WOULD BECOME WET AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD ALSO CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO START INDEPENDENTLY, THE LIGHTS WOULD FLASH AND THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD ILLUMINATE INDEPENDENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND MADE A COVER FOR THE PART. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A LEAK COMING FROM THE WINDSHIELD THAT WAS ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE GENERAL ELECTRONIC MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 240,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F250. APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN MINUTES AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED FLAMES UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. RECALL # 06V286000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) WAS FOUND. AS OF JUNE 6, 2007, THE DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 185,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F250. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH IN DRY CONDITIONS, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. BEFORE THE BLOW OUT, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE FOLLOWED BY A LOUD BOOM. HE THEN NOTICED THAT THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE BEFORE IT FLATTENED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD BEFORE A CRASH OCCURRED. THE TIRE WAS A CONTINENTAL GENERAL LT 265/75R16 TIRE, WHICH IS NOT THE STANDARD ISSUE TIRE FOR HIS VEHICLE. THE TIRE WAS ALSO UNAVAILABLE IN THE DROP DOWN MENU AT THE TIME OF THIS COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND SENT THEM THE FAILED TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HE MUST HAVE STRUCK SOMETHING IN THE ROAD TO CAUSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES OF THE FAILURE AND THE MANUFACTURER IS RETURNING THE TIRE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 118,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-250. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND REPLACED THE FAILED TIRE WITH A SPARE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER , BUT HAD VISIBLE DAMAGE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR PANEL AND WHEEL WELL WERE DAMAGED BY THE TREAD FROM THE TIRE. WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT SLOWLY TO FLOOR. PUMPING BRAKES HELPED IN STOPPING FAILURE WAS IN ANTI-LOCK BRAKES CONTROL PART # 5C7Z-2C286-A. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F250. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE DROVE AS IF IT HAD A FLAT TIRE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE TREAD HAD SEPARATED. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR FENDER, BUMPER, AND THE BED SUSTAINED DAMAGE. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR AREA AND TAILGATE. THE TIRES WERE NOT THE ORIGINAL TIRES AND EACH HAD 12,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL # 06T016000 (TIRE;TREAD). THE TIRES WERE DISCOVERER H/T (P22575R15). THE DOT # LISTED WAS FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOT # WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 50,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-250 WITH COOPER DISCOVER HT TIRES (TIRE SIZE LT265/75/R16). THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE THREE FAILURES WITH THE TIRES. THERE WAS A TREAD SEPARATION, TIRE DEFLATION AND THE THIRD TIRED SUFFERED A BROKEN BELT. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED HER A CHECK FOR LESS THAN THE AMOUNT OF THE FIRST TIRE. THERE WERE 12,000 MILES ON THE TIRES AT THE TIME OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE FOR THE VEHICLE WAS 45,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000. THE TIRE FAILURES HAS CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE OF THE BED OF THE VEHICLE ALONG WITH THE FENDER AND WHEELS.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE MAKING A TURN. THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE POWER STEERING STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THERE WAS NO WARNING SIGNAL PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE CAM SENSOR HAD FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND THE CONTACT NOTICED THE FENDER BRACKET WAS STICKING OUT AND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE HAD BEGUN TO GO FLAT. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN A MILE, WHERE THE SPARE WAS REPLACED. THE TIRE WAS TAKEN TO MULTIPLE MECHANICS, WITH MULTIPLE DIAGNOSES. THIS WAS A CONTINENTAL GENERAL GRABBER TIRE, TR M&S LT, . DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLE, A FIRE ERUPTED WHICH WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FRONT UNDERHOOD. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNALS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. UPON INSPECTION, THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH AND WIRING FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS OBSERVED TO BE COMPLETELY BURNT TO THE GROUND. A FIRE REPORT WAS TAKEN# 06-017205. ALSO, THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT WOULD NOT OFFER ANY RESOLUTION WHILE THIS CASE WAS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

WHEN THE HOOD WAS OPENED, THE SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM WAS OBSERVED TO BE ON FIRE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE CONTACT. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS . UPON INSPECTION, THE REAR RIGHT TIRE PRESENTED TREAD SEPARATION WHICH CAUSED BODY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED WITH THE FRONT LEFT TIRE ON A LATER DATE AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT.
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH ON FLAT GROUND, WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, MY TRUCK FLOORED THE GAS PEDAL. I HAD TO JAM ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE TRUCK JUST TOOK OFF, LIKE IT HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN. SINCE THEN I HAVE NOT, AND WILL NOT USE THE CRUISE CONTROL. I WILL NOT USE THE CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN. IT WAS VERY SHOCKING, AND TOOK THE WIND OUT OF ME. IT COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I MISSED THE CAR IN FRONT ME BY INCHES. I WILL NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL ON MY TRUCK AGAIN. *JB
FAULTY ENGINEERING ON A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. SPARK PLUGS UNDER PRESSURE JUST POP RIGHT OUT OF THE HEAD. THE FORD BARELY HIT A 100,000 MILES. FORD BOASTS THAT TUNE UPS ARE NOT NECESSARY UNTIL A 100,000 MILES. WELL ANYWAYS THE SPARK PLUG SHOT OUT OF THE HEAD AND THE END RESULT IS THAT IT WILL COST ME $2,000 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ALUMINUM HEAD. AFTER TALKING WITH OTHER OWNERS AND DOING SOME INTERNET HOMEWORK WITH ON CONSUMER AFFAIRS, I NOTICED AT LEAST A HUNDRED OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME MODEL FORD AND THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. *NM

FORD 2001 BLEW UP INTO FLAMES WHILE PARKED IN DRIVE WAY WHILE VEHICLE WAS OFF. TOTAL LOSS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT DOES NOT LATCH SECURELY. THIS STARTED TWO YEARS AGO, AND THE SEAT BELT UNLATCHES AT TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SEAT BELT. *AK UPDATED 2/7/2006 - *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE POWER STEERING PULLEY FELL OFF THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND RESULTED IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. UPON INSPECTION, THE PULLEY APPEARED TO BE GLUED ON INSTEAD OF BOLTED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE WAY THE PULLEY WAS ATTACHED TO THE SHAFT. THERE WERE NO PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. HE REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO THE MANUFACTURER. *AK UPDATED 01/11/06. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT AN OIL RING FAILURE THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING. THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A FLUTTERING SOUND, AND THE OIL GAUGE INDICATED A RAPID LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE. HE PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, HE DISCOVERED THE OIL RING HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE ENGINE. HE ADDED ENOUGH OIL TO THE ENGINE TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE INTO HIS CERTIFIED REPAIR SHOP. REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE'S EXHAUST MANIFOLD INNER FENDER WELL CRACKED DUE TO SALT AND WEATHER AND THE BOLTS FRACTURED OFF. THE SERVICE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE TRANSMISSION BECAME STUCK IN 1ST GEAR AT TIMES AND WOULD NOT UPSHIFT UNLESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS RELEASE. THIS OCCURRED UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. THE NATURE OF THE FAILURE WAS PERMANENT GRADUALLY WORSENED. THE SERVICE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE THE NATURE OF THE FAILURE.
MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE A FORD F250 TRUCK. IT'S A 2001 WHICH WE PURCHASE IN 3/2002. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK WHEN HE HEARD A BANG THEN THE TRUCK DIED. WE HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT TOUCH THE TRUCK BECAUSE THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT CAUSING THE HEAD TO BLOW. THEY STATED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING THING WITH FORD TRUCKS AND FORD WILL NOT ADMIT THAT THEY HAVE AN ENGINEERING PROBLEM WITH THE MOTOR. I BROUGHT THIS MATTER TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENTS ATTENTION. NEITHER ONE OF THEM WOULD ASSIST ME. THEY STATED THAT WE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. AFTER THESE PHONE CALLS I CALL A FEW OTHER AUTO REPAIR SHOPS. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THAT WAS UNUSUAL THAT A SPARK PLUG WOULD BACK OUT AND EVEN IF THE SPARK PLUG DID BACK OUT THAT IT WAS UNUSUAL THAT IT WOULD BLOW THE HEAD GASKET. AT THIS POINT WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS WHICH IS 3,500.00. I WOULD LIKE THIS MATTER LOOKED INTO.
ELECTRICAL FIRE RESULTED IN TOTAL LOSS. *NM
WE WERE NOTIFIED BY POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS THAT THERE WAS A FIRE IN OUR YARD. OUR FORD 250 WAS ON FIRE AND HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR AROUND 4 HOURS. UPON INVESTIGATION THE FIRE MARSHALL INDICATED THE LOCATION OF WHERE THE FIRE BEGAN AND PRESUMED IT WAS THE BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH BASED ON ITS LOCATION. THE CAR HAS BEEN TOTALED AND CAUGHT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON FIRE NEXT TO IT.
THE CONSUMER DEVELOPED PROBLEMS WITH THE FIRESTONE STEELTEX RADIAL TIRES ON HIS 2001 FORD F250.***NO ANSWER REQUIRED***. *MR ON TWO SEPERATE OCCASIONS THE FRONT AND REAR LEFT TIRE HAD COME APART WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. *SC
THE CONSUMER STATED AT 27,000 MILES HIS 2001 FORD F250 DEVELOPED AN ENGINE VIBRATION. *JB THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES, THERE WAS A VIBRATION. THE DEALER MACHINED THE FRONT ROTORS AND REPLACED THE PADS THAT WERE CRACKED. THERE WAS A RATTLE NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE EXHAUST SHIELDS WERE LOOSE, THE HOSE CLAMP ON THE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED AND THE POWER DOOR LOCK WAS REPLACED. *JB *NM
DT THE CRUISE CONTROL STUCK TWICE, THE LAST CAME UP OUT OF THE SEAT AND HAD TO BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE TO GET IT STOP. CONTACTED THE DEALER, WHO SAID THAT ITS NOT INCLUDED THE RECALL, AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. CRUISE SET ON 59 MPH AND IT IDLED REALLY HIGH. HAD TO KEEP HITTING THE OFF BUTTON, AND PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRA,L AND IT STILL IT WOULD NOT DISINGAGE. HAD THEM DISCONNECT CRUISE CONTROL. *AK
2001 FORD F150 DOOR STRIKERS ARE STARTING TO RUST.*MR THE STRIKERS HOLD THE REAR DOORS SHUT AND IF THEY FAIL THE FRONT DOORS COULD COME OPEN. *BF *NM
DT: ABS BRAKES, AIR BAGS, AND FUEL SYSTEM FAILED. AT 4700 MILES THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM. HAD IT A MECHANIC SHOP AND DISCOVERED IT WAS THE ABS. WHILE GOING 55 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN KEPT PUSHING THE BRAKES AND NOTHING HAPPENED CAUSING A WRECK. KEPT TAKING VEHICLE TO FORD, THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS ALSO DID NOT DEPLOY. ALSO, FUEL LINES SHUT OFF. THIS HAPPENED ON MARCH 15, 2002. *AK *NM

01 V 227 001/TRW SEAT BELT BUCKLES: THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WOULD COME UNDONE WHILE DRIVING. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM MAY NOT PROVIDE OCCUPANT PROTECTION. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS, BUT THE PROBLEM HAS RECURRED AGAIN. *JB *SC
FIRE IN FORD F-250 PICK-UP TRUCK. PARKED IN GARAGE FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS. OWNER SAW INITIAL FIRE IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON DRIVER'S SIDE. REMAINS OF CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WERE FOUND AND X-RAYED; INTERNAL CONTACTS WERE SPLATTERED FROM ELECTRICAL ARCING. FUSE #13 WAS A 20 AMP DEVICE AND WAS THE ONLY ONE BLOWN. ACCORDING TO FORD WIRING DIAGRAMS, THAT CIRCUIT FED THE CDS. THE OWNER REPORTED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL QUIT WORKING LAST SUMMER. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD HIM IT NEEDED A NEW CC MODULE AND WOULD COST $150.00. OWNER ELECTED NOT TO SPEND THE MONEY AT THAT TIME. *JB

A TIRE TREAD SEPARATION STARTED WITH THE LEFT REAR DRIVER 'S SIDE TIRE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE. FIRESTONE, STEEL AT, P265/75R16, #DOT VNW81XL0701. *AK

ON NOVEMBER 22, 2004 AT APPROXIMATELY 3AM, CONSUMER'S VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS UNDETERMINED. CONSUMER WAS AWARE OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS INVOLVING FORD TRUCKS DUE TO CRUISE CONTROL.*AK
UPON JACKING THE VEHICLE UP TO CHANGE THE TIRE THE TRUCK FAILED. THE JACK WAS NOT BUILT CORRECTLY. CONSUMER WAS INJURED. CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALER.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH VEHICLE VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT DRIVER'S FRONT TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER, THE PASSENGER'S REAR AND DRIVER'S REAR TIRES WERE REPLACED DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION. *AK
