TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DOOR WAS VERY HARD TO OPEN DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
I ATTEMPTED TO EXIT MY CAR (A 2005 FORD FOCUS) HOWEVER THE KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIR. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT AMONG FORD FOCUS OWNERS. IT'S PROBLEMATIC BECAUSE IF IT HAPPENS REPEATEDLY, IT CAN LEAVE THE CAR PRONE TO THEFT. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2005 FORD FOCUS ZX3 AT THE END OF 2004. AT 42,000 MILES THE CLUTCH WENT OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I HAVE DRIVEN MANUAL CARS SINCE FIRST GETTING MY LICENSE OVER 20 YEARS AGO, SO I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I LOOKED UP INFO ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT FORD KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM (TSB# 05256 NHTSA ID# 10018945 DATED JAN. 1, 2005). NOW THAT THE CLUTCH (WHICH FORD KNEW ABOUT ) WENT BAD, FORD SAYS IT IS NOT A WARRANTY PART AND THEY WILL NOT REPLACE, LEAVING ME TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF MY POCKET. I DON'T THINK CUSTOMERS SHOULD PAY FOR FORD'S BAD PARTS. *TR
BODY PAINT STARTED TO PEEL OFF OF MY FRONT DRIVERS DOOR, IT HAS CONTINUED TO PEEL ON ALL THE DOORS AND CURRENTLY IS NOW PEELING OFF OF THE TRUNK LID. I'M TOLD THAT THIS IS APPARENTLY A ROCK BLISTER EFFECT BUT I'VE OWNED MANY A VEHICLE AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN TO ANY VEHICLE OF MINE BEFORE. THIS IS A FORD PROBLEM NOT AN OWNER PROBLEM. OF NOTE, I'VE OWNED FORD VEHICLES SINCE 2000 AND CURRENTLY OWN 2 FORD VEHICLES. NONE OF MY OTHER VEHICLES HAVE EVER SHOWN ANY INDICATION OF THIS HORRIBLE PEELING. AS WELL, MY REAR DOORS ARE ALWAYS BECOMING STUCK. ONCE AGAIN, I'VE BEEN TOLD TO OIL THE COMPONENTS. THIS HAS BEEN DONE OVER AND OVER WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 62 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE CONTACT BUMPED THE FLOOR SHIFTER AND THE GEARS SHIFTED FROM DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL. THE RPM'S BEGAN RACING UNTIL HE TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND PULLED OFF THE ROAD. HE ATTEMPTED THIS SCENARIO A FEW TIMES AND GOT THE SAME RESULTS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,166 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,100. UPDATED 05/06/08. *LJ
MY DAUGHTER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN OUR 2005 FORD FOCUS SHE HIT SOMEONE IN THE REAR AND THEN WAS HIT IN THE REAR BY ANOTHER CAR. WHEN THE IMPACT HAPPENED THE SEATBELT FAILED TO TIGHTEN UP TO PREVENT HER FROM FLYING AROUND IN THE CAR SHE HIT HER RIBCAGE ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND THEN WAS FORCED BACK BY THE IMPACT OF THE SECOND CAR HITTING HER FROM BEHIND. ALSO THERE WAS $6,000 WORTH OF DAMAGES DONE TO THE VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED AND ALMOST ALL THE DAMAGE WAS TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY START, BUT ONCE IT DID, IT STALLED FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THE ROTORS WERE REPAIRED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED PERIODICALLY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 153,000.
VEHICLE WILL NOT STAY ALIGNED. DURING THE 62,325 MILES I OWNED THE CAR I WENT THROUGH 3 SETS OF HIGH QUALITY TIRES AND 7 ALIGNMENTS. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, IT LOOKS AS THOUGH THIS HAPPENS A LOT, FORD DENIES ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS BUT TIRE SHOPS AND CAR OWNERS WILL TELL YOU DIFFERENT. I PUT ABOUT 25K MILES A YEAR ON A CAR, SOMEONE THAT PUTS 10K WOULD NT NOTICE THIS PROBLEM AS OFTEN. *TR
MY KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION INTERMITTENTLY. NOTHING I DO RELEASES IT. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO LEAVE IT IN MY CAR FOR DAYS BEFORE I COME OUT ONE OF THE MORNINGS AND IT JUST DECIDES TO LET ME HAVE MY KEY BACK. ON AND OFF EVER SINCE I HAVE GOTTEN THE CAR. *TR
BOUGHT 2005 FOCUS ZX5 NEW. ORIG TIRES PIRELLI. LOST AIR CONSTANTLY. NO ONE WOULD HONR OR FIX. I HAD TO BUY NEW TIRES WITH ONLY 2,245 MILES ON THE CAR. GOODRICH 205/50-16 WHICH THE TIRE DEALER SAID IS MADE FOR FOCUS. THE FORD DEALER SAID THE TIRES WERE THE WRONG TIRE FOR FOCUS. NOW THE TIRES HAVE 24,000 MILES ON THEM AND THEY ARE BALD. FORD DEALER DENIES HE TOLD ME TIRES WERE WRONG AND I AM NOW FACING HAVING TO BUY NEW TIRES AGAIN. DEALER WILL NOT HELP. TIRE DEALER SAYS "OH WELL" THE CAR DOES TERRIBLE ON WET & SNOW-ICY ROADS EVEN AT 15 TO 35 MILES AN HOUR. WHAT AM I TO DO? WHY IS FOCUS KNOWN FOR ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR PER TSB'S AND THE DEALERS WILL NOT HELP? THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, LAST TIME WAS 3/17/08. *TR
MY IGNITION LOCKED UP ON MY FORD FOCUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND IMMEDIATELY BECAME STUCK IN AN DEPRESSED POSITION. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FAILED TO RELEASE UNTIL REPEATED FORCE WAS APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
LIKE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS MY 2005 FORD FOCUS IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN IN A 2005 FOCUS AND I WAS LEFT STRANDED. THIS THANKFULLY WAS AT MY WORKPLACE AND I WAS NOT IN ANY IMMEDIATE DANGER. *TR
POWER DOOR LOCKS LOCK UNEXPECTIALY WHILE ENGINE IS ON OR OFF. *TR
BOTH REAR DOORS ARE STUCK CLOSED AND CANNOT BE OPENED. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER TO SEE IF THIS REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY FOR DOOR LATCHES. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED. FORD QUOTED ME A PRICE OF OVER $700 TO REPLACE THE HARDWARE INSIDE OF THE DOOR THAT HAD "OXIDIZED". THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR STOPPED OPENING A FEW YEARS AGO BUT THIS WAS NOT A MAJOR CONCERN AS I RARELY HAVE PASSENGERS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. ABOUT A WEEK AGO THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DOOR STOPPED FUNCTIONING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT IS INTERESTING THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE IS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE RECALL THAT WAS ISSUED FOR THE DOOR LATCHES, YET IT SEEMS THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER FORD FOCUSES THAT ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY BASED ON VIN#. THIS COULD BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE DOOR WERE TO OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR IF PASSENGERS WERE UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION (FOR EXAMPLE, AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH THE FRONT DOORS WERE DAMAGED, THERE WOULD BE NO EXIT FROM VEHICLE IF BOTH REAR DOORS ARE STUCK). I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2005 AND THE BACK DOORS WERE RARELY USED. *TR
DECELERATION PEDAL. MY FORD FOCUS 05 GAS PEDAL JUST JAMMED WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER I SOFTY BRAKE, SO THE SPEED OF THE CAR GRADUALLY SLOW DOWN UNTIL I PRESS REALLY HARD SO IT BECOME NORMAL AGAIN. IT HAPPENS EVERY YEAR IN THE WINTER. IN THE SUMMER, IT RUNS SMOOTHLY AS NORMAL. *TR
MY WIFE'S 2005 FORD FOCUS, GOING 35-40 MPH, RAN HEAD-ON INTO THE SIDE OF A SUV THAT RAN A STOP-SIGN IN FRONT ON HER. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO HESITATE AND SHIFT GEARS ERRATICALLY WITH A LOUD BANG. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BOTH THE DEALER AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIANS INFORMED THE TRANSMISSION EXHIBITED INTERNAL DAMAGES AND WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
THE REAR DOORS OF MY FORD FOCUS HAVE TWICE OPENED WHILE DRIVING DUE TO A RUSTED OUT LATCH MECHANISM. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS 9/30/07 AND THE SECOND WAS 11/5/07. THE SECOND TIME THERE WAS A CHILD IN THE BACKSEAT. THE CAR IS A 2005 MODEL AND ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. THE LATCHES WERE RECALLED ON 2000-2005 MODELS BUT APPARENTLY NOT MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE. AFTER HAVING TO PAY 2 TIMES IN A LITTLE OVER A MONTH TO REPAIR THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE DOOR LATCHES IN MY VEHICLE. NO ONE WAS INJURED DURING EITHER OF THESE INCIDENTS. *TR
2005 FORD FOCUS WITH FUEL FILTER FAILURE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS COMING OFF OF THE FILTER. CONSUMER WAS INFORMED OF A RECALL FOR THE FUEL FILTER. THE CONSUMER WAS CHARGED FOR RECONNECTING THE HOSE, BUT NOT THE FILTER. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE WHEEL RIMS RUSTING. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL FILTER ERUPTED AND CAUSED FUEL TO SPRAY OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. ANOTHER DEALER REPLACED THE CLIPS THAT KEPT THE FILTER ATTACHED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 27,320. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE SMELLED A STRONG ODOR OF GAS FROM THE VEHICLE AND UPON INSPECTION FOUND THAT GASOLINE WAS LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH. THE CONSUMER STATED TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED HER THE FUEL FILTER WAS NOT SEATED CORRECTLY. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE PREVIOUS DEALER WHO INFORMED HER THAT THEY HAD INSTALLED THE FUEL FILTER CORRECTLY THAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN FAULTY CLIPS. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER SHE WOULD BE RECEIVING A CHECK FOR REIMBURSEMENT BUT TO NO AVAIL. UPDATED 10/11/07 *TR

DRIVING THE CAR (FORD FOCUS 2005 - 52000 MILES) IN RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD. STOPPED THE CAR TO GET OUT, KEY WOULD NOT RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION. UNABLE TO LEAVE THE CAR UNTIL WE GOT BACK INTO SECURE PARKING GARAGE AT HOME. KEY HAS BEEN LEFT IN THE IGNITION & IS VULNERABLE TO THEFT. I AM CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF FINDING A WAY TO GET IT REPAIRED. INITIALLY TOLD BY FORD DEALER THAT IGNITION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, APPROX $400. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT BULBS OVERHEATED AND AS A RESULT, MELTED THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG ALERT COMES ON AT IRREGULAR INTERVALS AND THEN GOES OFF AGAIN. THE DEALER SAYS THEY CANNOT FIND ANY PROBLEM AND SIMPLY RESETS THE CODES, BUT THAT IS NOT SOLVING THE PROBLEM. I HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM AT LEAST FIVE TIMES, BUT THE AIR BAG ALERT IS STILL COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. IF THAT ALERT IS "ON" AND AN ACCIDENT OCCURS, WHO IS RESPONSIBLE? *TR
I PURCHASED A 2005 FORD FOCUS IN JANUARY 2005. APPROXIMATELY 14 MONTHS AFTER THE PURCHASE THE CAR STARTED HAVING MAJOR POWER TRAIN FAILURE. THIS HAS RESULTED IN THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE, THE CLUTCH 3 TIMES, THE TRANSMISSION, AND THE SHIFTING CABLES. *AK

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO COME TO A STOP. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY AND WOULD REV. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE REPLACED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. AFTER SHTTING CAR OFF AND RESTARTING, THE LIGHT CAME ON AND WENT OUT AS IT SHOULD. YESTERDAY THE LIGHT AGAIN CAME ON AND WILL NOT RESET. WILL TAKE CAR TO DEALER AT FIRST OPPORTUNITY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE WEAR BAR WAS EXPOSED ON EACH TIRE. THE MILEAGE WAS 44,244 WHEN THE NEW TIRES WERE PURCHASED. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER AND BRAND WERE TOYO TIRES, THE DOT#CX3V862205 , AND THE SIZE WAS 205/15VR16. THE TIRES WERE 40,000 MILE TIRES, WHICH CAUSED TIRE FAILURE AT 19,415 MILES EARLIER. THE TIRE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND RECENT FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 63,659. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THAT EVERY 5,000 MILES THE WERE ROTATED TWICE BY FORD MOTOR CO AND TWICE BY HER HUSBAND. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATES SHE HAS A 90,000 MILE WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER STATES SHE WANTS TO REIMBURSED FOR A PORTION OF THE COST OF THE NEW TIRES. UPDATED 05/13/07 *TR
THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2005 FOCUS WAS DIFFICULT TO SHIFT INTO 1ST GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY DURING 7 - 16 MARCH 2007. WHILE DOING THE WORK THEY NICKED THE BRAKE LINE JUST ENOUGH TO CREATE A SLOW LEAK. THE LOCATION OF THE LEAK WAS NEAR THE FRONT LEFT TIRE. AFTER ONE DAY OF DRIVING, ALL THE FLUID LEAKED OUT AND THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT. THE DEALERSHIP ARRANGED TO PICK UP THE FOCUS WITH A TOW TRUCK. THEY REPAIRED THE BRAKES (19-23 MAR). ON 23 MAR, MY WIFE PICKED UP THE FOCUS. APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHILE SHE WAS TURNING LEFT. THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT PUSHED HER LEFT ARM DOWN AND TO THE RIGHT, PULLING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT, CAUSING HER TO HIT THE CURB. NO OTHER VEHICLE WAS NEARBY OR INVOLVED. SHE WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE FOCUS INTO THE PARKING LOT OF A MEDICAL TREATMENT FACILITY, WHERE SHE WAS TREATED FOR CERVICAL INJURY. THE DEALERSHIP PICKED UP THE FOCUS WITH A TOW TRUCK. AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY PUT THE FOCUS UP ON A LIFT AND I INSPECTED THE UNDERCARRIAGE ALONG WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND MECHANIC. THE BRAKE ROTOR WAS COMPLETE SEPARATED FROM THE WHEEL AND THE LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS BENT AT ABOUT A 20 DEGREE ANGLE FROM NORMAL. THE WHEEL WAS NOTICEABLY SCRATCHED AND THE TIRE WAS CUT. THE SERVICE MANAGER SUGGESTED THAT MY WIFE HIT THE CURB CAUSING THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. MY WIFE IS ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED CAUSING HER TO HIT THE CURB.*AK
ON 2/24/07, I MADE A PURCHASE AT A DRIVE THROUGH WINDOW AT A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT. I LEANED ACROSS THE CENTER CONSOLE TO PLACE THE ORDER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR. WHILE DOING SO, I BUMPED THE GEAR SHIFT AND IT MOVED FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE LOCK BUTTON ON THE SIDE OF THE GEAR SHIFT HANDLE. UPON ARRIVING HOME, I TESTED THE GEAR SHIFT HANDLE, AND FOUND I COULD MOVE IT FROM REVERSE TO NEUTRAL TO DRIVE, AND FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL, ALL WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE GEAR SHIFT RELEASE BUTTON. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT UNINTENDED SHIFTING WHILE DRIVING COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS INCIDENT, AND I BELIEVE THE SHIFT RELEASE BUTTON IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT THAT. ON THIS VEHICLE, THIS IS A PROBLEM. *JB
I WAS RECENTLY IN AN ACCIDENT. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE OTHER THREE CARS INVOLVED ALL HAD AIRBAGS AND THEIRS DID DEPLOY. MY CAR HAS BEEN DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. I WOULD THINK THAT IN AN ACCIDENT OF THIS MAGNITUDE THAT THE AIRBAGS WOULD HAVE FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. I RECENTLY HAD A TIRE FAILURE. I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO CALL IT AS THE ENTIRE MIDDLE SECTION OF RUBBER CAME COMPLETELY OFF. THERE WAS ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT (IF ANY) SIDEWALL LEFT (I HAVE PHOTOS). I TOOK IT TO A GOODYEAR DEALER WHO REPLACED IT AT A "PRORATED" RATE ALTHOUGH MY UNDERSTANDING OF THE WARRANTY WAS THAT IT WOULD BE COMPLETELY COVERED. I HAD IT REPLACED AND PAID THE $80.00. I ALSO CONTACTED GOODYEAR TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS THEIR POLICY AND THAT MY TRANSACTION WAS HANDLED CORRECTLY, I INCLUDED A PHOTO WITH MY CORRESPONDENCE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS THEIR POLICY AND THE DEALER HAD CONTACTED THEM ABOUT MY INCIDENT. THEY ALSO ASSURED ME THAT A TIRE SHOULD NOT DO THAT AND THEY ARE SORRY ABOUT IT. I AM FEELING THAT THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS POSSIBILITY, IF IT HAD BEEN A FRONT TIRE I WOULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED THE INCIDENT AS I WOULD HAVE LOST TOTAL CONTROL (GOODYEAR TIRE). *NM
WE HAVE A 2005 FORD FOCUS WAGON WITH APPROXIMATELY 37,000 MILES. WE HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH DUE TO AN IDLING PROBLEM THAT THE DEALER CANNOT REMEDY. THE THROTTLE SOMETIMES STICKS AND THE CAR ACCELERATES UNCONTROLLABLY ON ITS OWN. AT OTHER TIMES THE CAR DIES AT IDLE. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND THE ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE IN SEVERAL INTERNET CHAT ROOMS INDICATES THAT OUR CAR IS NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS SITUATION. APPARENTLY, FORD CONTINUES TO DENY THERE'S A PROBLEM, BUT IGNORING IT ONLY PUTS LIVES IN DANGER. *NM
WITH LESS THEN A 1/4 TANK OF FUEL THE CAR WILL STALL WHEN CHANGING LANES, MAKING LEFT HAND TURNS. THE FUEL PUMP IS MAKING GRINDING NOISES. *TR
TL* - ON DECEMBER 23, 2006 THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE IGNITION WHILE SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK. AFTER SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE WITH THE BRAKES STILL APPLIED THE RPMS BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AS THOUGH THE THE ACCELORATER PEDAL HAD BEEN DEPRESSED. A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED SHORTLY AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, BUT SHE DIDN'T FEEL THE NEED TO COMPLAIN AT THAT TIME. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY AND A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED A REPAIR HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED.
KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION - WE HAVE NO MONEY TO REPLACE ANYTHING. *JB
I WAS WESTBOUND ON 5TH ST. IN OLIVEHURST, CA, AND HEADED TO OLIVEHURST DRIVE. THE CONDITIONS WERE DRY AND COOL, AND THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 25 MPH. I HAD NOT YET COME UP TO THE SPEED LIMIT (BELOW 10 MPH) WHEN MY FRONT END BEGAN TO SHAKE. SECONDS LATER, MY PASSENGER AND I HEARD A LOUD BANG, AND THE FRONT END SWERVED SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT. I TRIED TO CORRECT TO THE LEFT, AND ENDED UP CLIPPING A POLE (ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD) INSTEAD OF HITTING IT HEAD ON. MY PASSENGER SUSTAINED A BLOW TO HIS KNEE. NO OTHER INJURIES OCCURRED, AND WE DID NOT FEEL IT NECESSARY TO CALL AN AMBULANCE. AS THERE WAS MINIMAL SCRAPES ON THE POWER POLE, AND MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED FOR COLLISION DAMAGE, I DID NOT NOTIFY THE AUTHORITIES. MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE WAS BENT INWARD, AND THE TIRE WAS BLOWN DOWN THE CENTER OF THE TREAD. UPON REPLACING THE TIRE WITH THE SPARE, WE FOUND THAT THE A ARM HAD SEPARATED FROM THE ROTOR, AND THE RIGHT CV AXLE HAD PULLED AWAY FROM THE TRANSMISSION, EFFECTIVELY DISABLING MY CAR. THE TIRE IN QUESTION IS A GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A P195/60R15; THE ORIGINAL TIRE FROM THE PURCHASE DATE OF 9/13/05, AND WITH LESS THAN 27,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE TIRES WERE CLOSE TO BALD PRIOR TO THE BLOWOUT, AND I HAD BEEN CONSIDERING TAKING THEM IN FOR A WARRANTY REPLACEMENT DUE TO THEIR SHORT LIFESPAN. I HAVE HAD PRIOR TIRE ROTATIONS DONE AT LARRY GEWEKE FORD IN YUBA CITY, AND THEY HAD NOT INFORMED ME OF ANY TREAD WEAR PROBLEMS AT THE TIME FOR THIS PARTICULAR TIRE. THIS TYPE OF DEFECT COULD HAVE EASILY KILLED MYSELF AND MY PASSENGER IF IT HAD OCCURRED AT HIGHER SPEEDS. *NM

I WAS HIT ON MY PASSENGER SIDE (T-BONED) BY ANOTHER CAR. NONE OF MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED (SIDE OR FRONTAL). I WAS HIT HARD ENOUGH THAT THE IMPACT ITSELF KNOCKED ME OUT. THE FRAME OF MY CAR WAS BENT AND IT WAS TOTALLED. *NM
REAR END IS CONTINUOUSLY OUT OF ALIGNMENT CAUSING SCALLOPING TO THE REARS OF TWO SETS OF TIRES. FORD DEALERSHIP AND FORD HEADQUARTERS REFUSE TO TAKE ANY ACTION, EXPLAINING IT IS MY "TOUGH LUCK" AND THAT I NEED TO PURCHASE NEW TIRES AND CONTINUE TO PAY ONCE TO TWICE A YEAR FOR ALIGNMENT IF TIRES HAVE NOT ALREADY BEEN DESTROYED. MANY OTHER MECHANICS I TALK TO SAY THE FOCUS IS NOTORIOUS FOR REAR END ALIGNMENT, BUT FORD WILL NOT MAKE ANY EFFORT TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION OR TAKE CONCILIATORY ACTION. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT STAY LATCHED AND BOTH DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCKS WERE HARD TO DISENGAGE. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V030000, REGARDING THE LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.

I OWNED A 2005 FORD FOCUS STATION WAGON AND SUFFERED A REAR END COLLISION WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT. AS A RESULT OF THE POOR SEAT CONSTRUCTION, MY LUMBAR SPINE WAS WEDGED IN THE GAP BETWEEN THE SEAT CUSHION AND THE BACK CUSHION DURING THE IMPACT. AT THE TIME, I HAD THE SEAT LOWERED FOR COMFORT. UNFORTUNATELY, AS YOU LOWER THE SEAT, YOU ALSO CREATE A GAP BETWEEN THE SEAT CUSHION AND THE BACK CUSHION, EXPOSING THE LUMBAR SPINE TO THAT GAP. THIS IS WHERE MY LOWER SPINE WAS WEDGED AS A RESULT OF THE REAR-END COLLISION. THE BACK CUSHION HAS TOO LITTLE SUPPORT TO KEEP THE SPINE FROM BUCKLING AND WEDGING ITSELF, BUTT FIRST. NOW, THE GAP WASN'T THAT BIG FOR ME, ONLY ABOUT AN INCH OR SO, BUT THE SEAT PADDING AROUND THE GAP IS UNSUPPORTED AND FLEXIBLE. IMAGINE NOW A REAR END COLLISION WITH A TALL PERSON SITTING IN THAT SEAT, WHERE THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE GAP BETWEEN THE SEAT CUSHION AND THE BACK CUSHION, SAY MAYBE TWO OR MORE INCHES. IN A REAR END COLLISION, WITH THE FRONT BRAKES APPLIED, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY BUCKLES UPWARD AND FORWARD, WHILE THE BODIES IN THE CAR MOVE DOWN AND BACK, AS IN MY CASE (SINCE OBJECTS AT REST [MY BODY] RESPOND ONLY AFTER THE IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE). JUST WATCH ALL THOSE DUMMY COMMERCIALS... THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD IF YOU MANIPULATE THE LEVER TO LOWER THE SEAT CUSHION. FACT: THE EUROPEAN FORD FOCUS DRIVER SEAT MOVES AS AN ENTIRE UNIT (BOTH SEAT CUSHION AND BACK CUSHION MOVE TOGETHER AS A UNIT, NEVER CREATING SUCH A GAP) FACT: THE U.S. MODEL IS THE CHEAP ALTERNATIVE TO GIVE THE IMPRESSION OF AN ADJUSTABLE SEAT. INSTEAD, THE LEVER LOWERS AND RAISES ONLY THE SEAT BUCKET PORTION FOR THE DRIVER, WHILE EXPOSING A GAP BETWEEN IT AND THE BACK CUSHION. THE BACK SUPPORT STAYS IN THE SAME PLACE ANOTHER FACT: ALL EUROPEAN MODELS HAVE HEADRESTS IN THE BACK SEAT ANOTHER FACT: AL U.S. MODELS HAVE NO HEADRESTS IN THE BACK SEAT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING IN THE EARLY MORNING OR EVENNGS I NOTICE THAT THE ABS LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT GLOW ON. THEY COME ON AND GO OFF. LAST EVENING THE CAR WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE DOORS LOCKED AND WINDOWS UP. THE DOME LIGHT CAME ON AND WENT OFF SEVERAL TIMES. I LOOKED INTO THE CAR AND FOUND THAT THE OIL LIGHT AND THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT WERE ON WHEN THE DOME LIGHT WAS OFF. ALSO, WHEN THE DOOR AJAR AND OIL LIGHT ARE ON, THE WIRELESS REMOTES DO NOT WORK. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE ABS AND BATTERY LIGHT 2 TIMES WITH NO RESOLVE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE TODAY WITH VIDEO OF THE DOME LIGHT, OIL LIGHT, AND THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT. *NM
I OWN A 2004 AND 2005 FORD FOCUS. ONE IS AN SE AND ONE A ZX3. THE FRONT BRAKES ON THE 2004 WENT OUT AT 32,000 MILES AND THE 2005 WENT OUT AT 40000 MILES. BOTH VEHICLES ARE DRIVEN NICELY. ON BOTH THERE WAS A SLIGHT GRINDING FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THEN TOTAL PAD FAILURE IN THE RIGHT INSIDE PAD. FORD SAYS THE PADS I BOUGHT FROM THE DEALER ARE LIFETIME WARRANTY BUT THE SYSTEM WHEN NEW CARRIES NO WARRANTY. BY THE TIME PROBLEMS ARE NOTICED, IT'S TOO LATE AND BOTH THE PADS AND ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
