MY KEYS ARE STUCK IN THE IGNITION OF MY 2005 FORD FOCUS. THIS JUST HAPPENED TODAY AND THEY ARE STILL IN THERE. I WILL HAVE TO LOCK MY CAR WITH THE KEYS IN IT AND PRAY NO ONE STEALS IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE AND WAS STUCK FOR 2-3 DAYS. THE KEYS OFTEN ACT LIKE THEY ARE GOING TO STICK, THEN, THANKFULLY THEY COME OUT. THIS IS SUCH A NUISANCE AND A RISK. I ASKED MY DEALERSHIP WOULD THE PROBLEM BE FIXED IF I HAD IT REPAIRED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT MIGHT STILL HAPPEN AND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FOCUS. NOT SO GOOD NEWS SINCE, I AM SURE THIS WOULD NOT BE CHEAP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER DOORS WOULD NOT UNLOCK DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON THE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT SHE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.
THE INNER BRAKE PADS ON THE FRONT AXLES ARE PRONE TO BINDING DUE TO RUST. THE CLEARANCES ARE VERY TIGHT. THIS CAUSES PREMATURE, UNEVEN BRAKE AND ROTOR WEAR ONCE THE PAD RUSTS UP AND STOPS FLOATING. MY PADS JUST FAILED AFTER 42K MILES; YET THE OUTER PADS WERE OVER 1/4" THICK. I PROPOSE A SEVERAL-PART REMEDY (FIRST 3 TO BE DONE BY SERVICING TECHNICIAN): 1. EXAMINE THE PADS MORE FREQUENTLY THAN THE USUAL ONCE A YEAR REQUIRED BY TYPICAL SAFETY INSPECTIONS; PULL THE WHEELS AND CHECK FOR MOVEMENT OF THE INBOARD PADS. THE PADS MAY HAVE TO BE RETRACTED WITH A C CLAMP SO THEY HAVE ROOM TO MOVE. 2. IF THE PADS ARE FROZEN, REMOVE BRAKE DISK AND PADS AND REMOVE RUST ON THE SLIDING SURFACE DOWN TO BARE METAL WITH A FLAT FILE, UNTIL PADS SLIDE FREELY. 3. LUBRICATE SURFACES WITH MOLYKOTE OR SIMILAR ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND. 4. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD REVIEW THE DESIGN WITH BRAKE VENDORS TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION WHICH COULD BE INCORPORATED INTO REPLACEMENT PADS. IF SLIGHTLY SHORTER PADS ARE THE ANSWER, THEY SHOULD INCLUDE ANTI-RATTLE MEASURES. ALSO, A SQUEALER SPRING SHOULD BE ADDED TO CONTACT THE BRAKE DISK WHEN THE PAD IS ALMOST GONE TO GIVE AN AUDIBLE WARNING TO THE DRIVER. THESE WORK WELL ON CHRYSLERS (I DON'T KNOW WHO MAKES THEM). *TR
I OWN A 2005 FOCUS ZX4 WHOM HAS BEEN SERVICED SEVERAL TIMES FOR ENGINE MOUNTS, ALTERNATOR, HEADLIGHTS/TAIL LIGHTS, STEREO, AND NOW PASSENGER FRONT SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR. I WAS TOLD BACK IN 2009 THAT THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR WAS NOT COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT THE STEREO WAS!!! SO EVERYTIME I HAVE AN ADULT IN THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE SEAT MALFUNCTIONS; A SAFETY FEATURE TO KEEP YOUR FAMILY SAFE IS NOT COVERED AND NOW I SEE ANOTHER CAR MANUFACTURER RECALLING THE SAME THING BUT FORD IS NOT WILLING TO FIX. I CALLED FORD HEADQUARTERS AND NO HELP OR CARE TO DO SO... THIS WILL BE MY LAST FORD I PURCHASE AFTER YEARS OF GROWING UP WITH FORDS. YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD CARE ABOUT THEIR CONSUMERS. *TR
I PURCHASED A USED 2005 FORD FOCUS WITH EXACTLY 30,000 MILES ON IT, AROUND 40,000 I NOTICED MY TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP, FURTHER RESEARCH REVEALED MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THIS SAME THING BEFORE THEY EVEN REACH 60,000. SEEMS TO ME IT IS A FACTORY DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION. EVEN AFTER BEING LOOKED AT I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY LOTS OF MONEY TO GET IT REPAIRED DUE TO THE WARRANTY ONLY BEING AT THE 40,000 MARK. WHICH THE DEALER NEVER TOLD ME THAT THE WARRANTY THEY OFFERED WAS VOID IF ORIGINAL FACTORY WARRANTY WAS STILL IN EFFECT. IN WHICH I ENDED UP ON THE SHORT END OF THE STICK BECAUSE THEIR WARRANTY THEY GIVE FOR THE USED CARS OUTLASTS WHAT I HAD REMAINING ON THE FACTORY WARRANTY. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. SEVERE SLIPPING WHEN TRANSMISSION GOES TO SHIFT INTO THIRD AND FOURTH GEAR. *TR

2005 FORD FOCUS ST - DECORATIVE LUG NUT END CAPS FAIL AND FLY OFF THE WHEEL. ALL EIGHT (8) OF MY WHEEL LUG NUTS HAVE FAILED AND THE DECORATIVE END CAPS HAVE COME OFF. *TR
I LOST CONTROL ON AN ICY ROAD AND HIT A COLVERT WHICH SENT THE CAR IN THE AIR AND SLAMMED BACK DOWN. THE CAR FINALLY HIT A BANK AND STOPPED. THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL POPPED OPEN BUT THE AIRBAG NEVER ACTUALLY DEPLOYED. FORTUNATELY, OTHER THAN PRETTY BAD NECK AND BACK PAIN I WALKED AWAY OK. *TR
MY KEY IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND WILL NOT RELEASE. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE PAST 6 MONTHS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A DAMAGED KEY BUT WHEN IT HAPPENED ON A 2ND KEY THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER. DEALER HAS REPLACED LOCK, AND AFTER A REPEAT OCCURRENCE RE-KEYED THE LOCK AND RE-CUT THE KEYS. NOW KEY IS STUCK AND WILL NOT RELEASE. MARYLAND LAW REQUIRES KEYS TO BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC SAFETY. *TR
THE HATCH BACK LID STARTED OPENING WHEN THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST WAS TURNED ON. THIS HAS RESULTED IN MANY INADVERTENT OPENING OF THE LID WHILE DRIVING. WHILE RESEARCHING, I FOUND A RECALL FOR THE 2000 FORD FOCUS ASSIGNED NHTSA 00V411000. I PULLED BACK THE RUBBER BOOT WHICH PROTECTS THE SAME WIRE HARNESS AT THE HINGE POINT OF THE LID. I DISCOVERED MULTIPLE CRACKED AND EXPOSED WIRES, AND ON WIRE BROKEN IT TWO. I DESIRE FOR THIS TO BE A RECALL ITEM JUST AS YOU DID FOR THE 2000 MODEL. I HAVE PICTURES IF YOU DESIRE. *TR
2005 FORD FOCUS STATION WAGON- LOSS OF TAIL LIGHTS, HIGH MOUNT STOP LIGHT, DASH LIGHTS, RUNNING LIGHTS DUE TO SHORT IN LIFTGATE WIRING. THE WIRING HARNESS IN THE LIFTGATE FATIGUES AT THE BEND AREA. WIRES BREAK, RESULTING IN A OPEN OR SHORT WHICH BLOWS FUSE. THE BLOWN FUSE RESULTS IN NO HIGH MOUNT STOP LIGHT, RUNNING LIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS, AND INSTRUMENT LIGHTS. IN ADDITION THE HEATED REAR DEFROST AND WINDSHIELD WIPER ALSO FAIL. THE HARNESS MUST BE REPLACED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE WAS PART OF A RECALL IN 2000- NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 00V411000. MY CAR IS A 2005. THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER FIXED IN PRODUCTION. *TR
MY CAR FAILS TO START UNTIL I CRANK IT 3 OR 4 TIMES. SOMETIMES IT BEGINS TO START THEN SPUTTERS AND DIES. IT HAS BEEN AN EVERYDAY THING FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS NOW. IT HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY TIME I GO TO START MY CAR WITH A FEW TIMES IT STARTING RIGHT AWAY. *TR
WE PURCHASED OUR 2005 FORD FOCUS ZX4 SES BRAND NEW IN FEBRUARY 2005. SINCE THE DATE OF PURCHASE WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR TIRES 5 TIMES, TWO OF THE 5 TIMES WE REPLACED THE WHOLE SET. THE ORIGINAL FACTORY TIRES ON THE REAR OF VEHICLE (YOKOHAMA 205/50/ZR16) WERE BALD AT 11,000 MILES. AT THAT TIME WE REPLACED THEM WITH 4 NEW YOKOHAMA TIRES. SIX MONTHS LATER, WE HAD TO BUY ANOTHER COMPLETE SET OF TIRES (MICHELIN/205/55/R16) BECAUSE THE TIRES IN THE REAR WERE CUPPING AND WEARING IN A DIAGONAL CROSS PATTERN. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FORD BOTH TIMES AND THEY DENIED THAT THERE WAS ANY FACTORY DEFECTS ON THE VEHICLE. FORD CLAIMED IT MUST BE AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE, WE PAID $79.99 FOR A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT, AND EVEN HAD THE FRONT END CHECKED, AS WELL AS SHOCKS AND STRUTS, AND FORD CLAIMED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. SINCE THEN, WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES 3 MORE TIMES, JUST LAST WEEK BUYING TWO NEW TIRES FOR THE REAR. WE REPLACED TIRES ON 7/13/2006 (16,463 MILES), THEN ON 7/6/2007 (25,926 MILES), THEN ON 1/16/2009 (43, 556 MILES). ALL OF THE TIRES PURCHASED HAD 80,000-85,000 MILE WARRANTIES ON THEM. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES, AND CLEARLY OUR VEHICLE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE TO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM. REFERENCE OIB-NHTSA, TSB #19064. FORD SHOULD BE FORCED TO FIX THE DEFECTS WITH THESE VEHICLES, AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMERS WHO PURCHASED THEM IN GOOD FAITH. WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO INVEST $3,000 IN COSTS FOR TIRES IN 3.25 YEARS. *TR
2005 FORD FOCUS WAGON HAS A FAULTY LIFT GATE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE LIFT GATE HAD SILENTLY FALLEN AND SHE WAS HIT IN THE FACE BY THE LIFT GATE. *NJ
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BECAME RESISTANCE TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
MY 2005 FORD FOCUS WHICH I BOUGHT NEW OFF THE DEALERSHIP NOW HAS 100000 MILES ON IT. WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, WHILE DRIVING, THE BACK END FISHTAILS BACK AND FORTH AS IF IT IS BEING HIT BY A STRONG WIND. AS SOON AS I TOLD A REPAIR SHOP THIS THEY IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE HAD MANY OTHER FOCUS OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME THING. THE REAR CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY IS DEFECTIVE. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEED TO BE EVER CHANGED ON A VEHICLE. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT WHEN THEY ORDER A NEW ONE FROM FORD, THE NEW ONE SENT IS MUCH STRONGER AND BULKIER WHICH TELLS THEM THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT. THE REPAIR BILL FOR THIS IS OVER $1200! THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS YOU FEEL YOU ARE LOOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AT ANY TIME. UPON HEARING THIS, I CONTACTED MY PARENTS WHO ALSO HAVE A FORD FOCUS AND THEY SAID THAT THOUGH THEY HAVE ONLY HALF THE NUMBER OF MILES ON THEIR VEHICLE IT IS ALSO A 2005 MODEL AND IT HAS STARTED TO DO THIS ALSO TO THEM BUT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK, IF IT WAS JUST BAD ROADS OR WHAT. VERY DANGEROUS AND FORD HAS NO RESPONSE TO MY QUESTIONS! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING OVER 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE CRASHED HEAD ON INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR SHOULDER INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND THE INDICATOR WAS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 35 MPH, A VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF THE CONTACT AND THE TWO VEHICLES T-BONED WITH EACH OTHER. AGAIN, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, NECK, AND MIDDLE TO UPPER BACK AREA. SHE ALSO HAD PAIN IN HER CHEST. SHE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 65,000. UPDATED 4/23/09 *CN UPDATED 04/27/09.*JB
THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASH COMES ON AT DIFFERENT TIMES. SOMETIMES ON FOR DAYS THEN OFF FOR A DAY, THEN BACK ON. THE DEALER TELLS ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND IT MAY BE THE WIRES OR CONNECTORS THAT RUN UNDER THE SEATS. HE SAID"PEOPLE FEET CAN HIT THE WIRES, AND MOVING OF THE SEATS CAN DAMAGE THEM. SOUNDS LIKE A DESIGN PROBLEM TO ME. FOR A FEW $100 HE CAN TELL ME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THERE WERE LOUD NOISES OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. SUDDENLY, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE DISENGAGED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE SUSPENSION, REAR WHEEL BEARING; HOWEVER, THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE AND ON BACK ORDER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT IS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 56,319. UPDATED 02/02/09. *LJ UPDATED 02/03/09. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE TIRES WAS B.F GOODRICH AND THE TIRE SIZE WAS P205/50/16. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES HAVE EXCESSIVE TREAD WEAR. AS A RESULT OF THE TIRE BLOW-OUT, THE TIRE FAILURE INCREASED THE RISK OF VEHICLE CRASH. SHE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WILL ONLY ASSUME PARTIAL RESPONSIBILITY. SHE HAS PICTURES OF THE FAILED COMPONENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 20,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY FORD 2005 FOCUS IN NEW YORK CITY AND MY DRIVER'S SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING. THE WHOLE DRIVER'S SEAT AND DOOR TRIM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY REMOVING THE IGNITION KEY, WHICH WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. SHE MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RELEASE THE KEY, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THEY ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN AND MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
MY FAMILY AND I WERE COMING UP FROM FLORIDA WHEN IT STARTED TO RAIN. I FELT THE CAR SLIPPING ON THE ROAD SO I MOVED OVER INTO THE FAR RIGHT HAND LAND. THE CAR SLIPPED AGAIN AND I HYDROPLANED AND CRASHED CAR ON NOV. 29TH DUE TO TIRES THAT WERE ONLY 6MONTHS OLD. I FELT THESE NEW TIRES HAD BEEN WORN SMOOTH AFTER ONLY 10,000 MILES OF USAGE WITH A CAR THAT HAD NO BRAKE OR ALIGNMENT ISSUES. THE TIRES WERE FULL OF AIR AT THE RIGHT PRESSURE AND I NOTICED NO TREAD ISSUES BEFORE LEAVING OUT OF TOWN. WHEN FILLING OUT THE POLICE REPORT, THE OFFICER WROTE ME A TICKET CLAIMING THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THE TIRES. WE HAD TO STAY OVERNIGHT IN A HOTEL AND PURCHASED NEW TIRES THE NEXT DAY. I STILL RETAIN THE TIRES. *TR
HATCH IS DIFFICULT TO CLOSE AND OPENS UNEXPECTEDLY. ON TWO OCCASIONS, LAST ONE BEING 11-22-08, THE HATCH OPENED COMPLETELY WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN. IT WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER AT LEAST THREE TIMES, BUT THEY DO NOT FIND A PROBLEM. ALSO, ON ONE OCCASION, THE HATCH WAS RETURNED TO US FROM THE DEALER WITH A DENT RESULTING FROM THE FORCE NEEDED TO CLOSE HATCH. DEALER PAID TO FIX DENT, BUT DENTS RETURNED. *TR
KEY LOCKED IN IGNITION OCCURRED ONCE BEFORE,AND KEY CAME OUT AFTER 3 DAYS. THIS TIME KEY HAS BEEN LOCKED FOR 5 DAYS. CAN'T LOCK CAR. DEALER EXPLAINED THE NEED TO CHANGE IGNITION FOR $500!! ADMITTED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH VARIOUS FORD FOCUS MODELS. *TR

I CANNOT REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION ON MY 2005 FORD FOCUS. THIS HAPPENED SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND TRIED TO REMOVE THE KEY AND IT WILL NOT COME OUT. I HAVE SEEN THAT SEVERAL OTHER FORD FOCUS OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND FORD REFUSES TO DO A RECALL, CLAIMING THAT THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, I ALSO NOTICED THAT I CANNOT LOCK THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR, EITHER MANUALLY OR ELECTRONICALLY. I THINK THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AS ANYONE COULD GET INTO MY CAR AND DRIVE OFF SINCE THE KEY IS STILL IN THE IGNITION AND THE DOOR WILL NOT LOCK. I WILL TRY TAKING THE CAR TO A LOCKSMITH TO GET THE IGNITION LOCK REPLACED AS I HAVE HEARD THAT THIS IS CHEAPER AND MORE RELIABLE THAN GETTING THIS PROBLEM FIXED BY THE DEALER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FOCUS. AFTER RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT NOTICED EXCESSIVE WATER LEAKING ONTO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE TRUNK WAS ALSO LEAKING WATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE SEAMS WERE SPLIT IN THE CHASSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE EXCESSIVELY WET CARPET PADDING AND CARPET WERE NOT REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF POSSIBLE EXPOSURE TO MOLD DUE TO THE WET CARPET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,500.
NOTICED ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK ON FRIDAY THAT WHEN I CLICKED ON THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL, IT WENT IN A "FAST BLINK" WHICH USUALLY MEANS A BURNED OUT BULB, SHORT, OR BLOWN FUSE, BUT USUALLY JUST A BURNED OUT BULB. ONCE I GOT HOME IN THE DRIVEWAY, I GET OUT AND TEST THE LIGHTS AND SEE THAT THE FRONT LEFT TURN SIGNALS ARE FLASHING FAST, AND THE BACK LEFT TURN SIGNAL IS NOT FLASHING AT ALL. I'M STILL HOPING FOR A BURNED OUT BULB AT THIS POINT. I MAKE A NOTE TO CHANGE IT OUT IN THE MORNING. ON SATURDAY OCT 4TH I PULL OFF THE LEFT REAR LIGHTING ASSEMBLY, CONSISTING OF TWO SCREWS HOLDING IT TO THE CAR, AND I FIND TWO BULB CONNECTIONS; THE BOTTOM ONE (BRAKE LIGHTS) HAS A NORMAL QUARTER TURN AND PULL OUT CONNECTOR TO GET TO THE BULB. ONLY THAT BULB IS FINE. THE TOP ONE ALSO HAS ONE OF THOSE "QUARTER-TURN-AND-PULL" CONNECTORS, ONLY IT DOES NOT "PULL" HECK IT DOESN'T EVEN QUARTER TURN, IT'S FROZEN IN PLACE, AND THE BACK SIDE OF THIS LIGHT ASSEMBLY IS MELTED INTO AN EGG SHAPE (SUPPOSED TO BE ROUND). NOW I'M NOT INTO JUST A BULB ANY MORE. IT'S SATURDAY, AND MY NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP IS ON M-F BANKERS HOURS, SO I ORDER A REPLACEMENT FROM AUTOZONE FOR $100 WHICH SHOULD BE HERE THIS WEEK. MY 2005 FORD FOCUS HAS BROKEN AND SHORTED WIRES ON THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE BACK HATCH IN MY STATION WAGON. WHEN I TURN ON THE IGNITION OR THE HEADLIGHTS THE BACK HATCH OPENS INADVERTENTLY. THE FOLLOWING DAY, A LOCAL MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS OVERCHARGING THE BATTERY IN THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE MECHANIC CALLED TO ORDER THE PART, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS THE FOURTH COMPLAINT REGARDING THIS PARTICULAR COMPONENT IN THE LAST FOUR WEEKS. THE DRIVER HAS NOT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON JULY 17, 2008 BY A LOCAL MECHANIC. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,814 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,862. I AM A CPS TECHNICIAN AND THE TETHER STRAP IS TOO LONG AND DOESN'T ALLOW THE STRAP TO TIGHTEN ALL THE WAY. THIS WAS USED FOR A FORD FOCUS PASSENGER CAR WITH THE TETHER ANCHORS ON THE BACK DASH. WE HAD THE ADJUSTER AS TIGHT AS IT WOULD GO AND THE BUCKLE ON THE TETHER WOULD NOT ALLOW IT TO TIGHTEN IN ANYMORE. ABOUT A 2-3 INCH PLAY IN IT. THIS WAS THE EVENFLO MODEL 380183712 DOM 2/18/2008 (RELATED VEHICLE INFORMATION: MODEL YEAR=2005, MAKE=FORD, MODEL=FOCUS). *TR
1)THERE WASN'T MUCH LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. IT JUST HAPPENED. NOT ONE, BUT BOTH OF THE CASINGS FOR OUR REAR/BRAKE SIGNAL LIGHTS MELTED. THAT MEANT THAT THE LAMP ASSEMBLY, OR HOLE, THAT THE LIGHT BULB SOCKET GOES INTO, MELTED IN BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT REAR LIGHTS EVEN THOUGH WE NEVER CHANGED THE BULBS BEFORE IN OUR CAR. THE CASING, OR LAMP ASSEMBLY, BECAME WARPED AFTER MELTING SO THAT WE COULDN'T EVEN TWIST THE LIGHT BULB SOCKET TO CHANGE THE BULB. 2) THIS MADE IT SO THAT BOTH REAR/BREAK LIGHTS DO NOT WORK. 3) WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING. IT SHOULD HAVE TAKEN US NO MORE THAN $4 TO BUY AND CHANGE A LIGHT BULB. INSTEAD IT TOOK THE $181.89 TO REPLACE THE LEFT CASING (LAMP ASY), BULB AND SOCKET ASY. DEALER SAID PROBLEM MIGHT BE DUE TO DRIVING IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC AND THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IN OUR CAR. WE NEED TO GET THE RIGHT/REAR LIGHT FIXED ALSO, SAME PROBLEM. I CONTACTED THE CUSTOMER RELATIONS DIVISION FOR THE CAR COMPANY. THEY CONTEND THEY ARE SIDING WITH THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS A STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC PROBLEM. THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT AND SAY IT'S NOT COVERED BY MY WARRANTY. MY CONCERN IS THAT THERE ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE DRIVING IN CITIES WHOSE PLASTIC PARTS ARE INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE HEAT OF THE LIGHTBULBS. OVER THE PAST 10 MONTHS IT HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES FOR "ALIGNMENT ISSUES" AND TO A PRIVATE ALIGNMENT SHOP FOR THE SAME ISSUE. EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ONLINE HAS INDICATED THAT THERE IS A "KNOWN ISSUE" WITH THE FORD FOCUS THAT ALLOWS A "GENEROUS" SPREAD FOR ALIGNMENT SPECS. AS LONG AS IT CAN BE ALIGNED WITHIN FORD'S SPECS IT IS CONSIDERED ACCEPTABLE, HOWEVER THE TIRES CONTINUE TO WEAR UNEVENLY CAUSING VIBRATION AND INCORRECT TREAD WEAR. I WAS TOLD BY FORD TODAY THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE "NUMBER IS" BUT THAT THEY ARE ALLOWED TO DO NOTHING UNTIL THAT "MAGIC NUMBER" IS REACHED. EVIDENTLY THEY HAVE ALSO ISSUED A "SILENT RECALL" THAT ALLOWS ONLY THOSE VEHICLES THAT CANNOT BE ADJUSTED TO THEIR "GENEROUS" SPECS TO BE REPAIRED. THIS IS NOT ONLY A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE WHEN IT COMES TO TIRE WEAR BUT AFFECTS TRACKING IN SNOW AND WATER WHICH ALSO HEIGHTENS RISK. *TR
I NOTICED THAT WHEN I BOUGHT MY 2005 FOCUS THAT THE ROTORS ALREADY HAD GROOVES IN THEM. THE BRAKE PADS ALSO WORE OUT EXTREMELY QUICK. THE OTHER DAY I GOT HOME FROM WORK AND WENT TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND THE KEY WOULDN'T COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. I HAVE HAD TO LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION OVER NIGHT. I AM AFRAID TO TAKE IT TO GET IT FIXED BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN HOW MUCH OTHERS HAVE PAID AND I JUST DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY. *TR
MY 2005 FORD FOCUS IGNITION KEEPS LOCKING UP ON ME, UNABLE TO TAKE KEYS FROM THE VEHICLE-LEAVING ME STRANDED OR CAR OPEN TO THEFT. I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT OVER A YEAR AGO, SINCE FORD WONT TOUCH VEHICLE-SAYS EVERYTHING WAS BECAUSE OF ACCIDENT WHICH WAS ONLY MINOR DAMAGE. SINCE THE ACCIDENT I HAVEN'T HAD A PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE UNTIL NOW. AT TIME OF ACCIDENT , THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY, NOW EVERYTIME I HONK ON HORN THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON FOR A DAY OR SO. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES PER HOUR, THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR OPENED ON IT'S OWN. HAD TO PULL OVER AND SECURE THE DOOR WITH TIES AS THE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH. NOTICED LATER THE DOOR LATCH APPEARED TO BE RUSTED. SINCE THIS INCIDENT, BOTH REAR DOOR LATCHES AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LATCH HAVE FAILED. RECENTLY, THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REMEDY THE ISSUE; HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DESPITE HAVING THE SAME DEFECT AS THE VEHICLES COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. *TR
