AFTER 3 SERVICE BULLETINS FOR VARIOUS PARTS OF THIS TRANSMISSION I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD GIVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY FOR THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION.
CAR ALARM GOES OFF AT VARIOUS TIMES AND MY TRUNK POPS OPEN AS WELL WITHOUT ME PRESSING THE BUTTON.
JUST AFTER I LEFT HOME TWO WEDNESDAYS AGO; AFTER ABOUT 1/4 MILE, MY CAR SUDDENLY STARTED TO DECELERATE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT IMMEDIATELY CAME ON. I DROVE IT TO MY REPAIR SHOP (ABOUT 14 MILES AWAY INCLUDING A HIGHWAY) AND ALTHOUGH IT NEVER STOPPED, I HAD TO KEEP HARD ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GET JUST OVER 50MPH. THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, IT WAS DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE. WHEN I PICKED IT UP, IT DID DRIVE NORMALLY. HOWEVER, THE NEXT TIME THAT I DROVE IT (THE FOLLOWING EVENING) THE SAME THING HAPPENED (AT THE SAME LOCATION FROM MY HOME). THIS TIME BOTH THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. I STOPPED AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I STARTED IT AFTER A MINUTE AND THE SPEED DROPPED TO ZERO AFTER A FEW YARDS. THE NEXT MORNING ON THE WAY TO THE REPAIR SHOP, IT AGAIN DECELERATED TO ZERO. THE SHOP SAID THAT IT WAS A THROTTLE SENSOR AND I PAID ALMOST $200 TO GET IT FIXED (I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL MONDAY). TWO DAYS LATER, LAST WEDNESDAY, AT THE SAME LOCATION, THE CAR DECELERATED AGAIN TO ZERO (THREE TIMES). I HAD AN EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT THAT DAY SO I HAD TO DRIVE IT. THAT NIGHT, I HAD JUST GOTTEN ON THE HIGHWAY TO COME HOME WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THANKFULLY, IT WAS VERY LATE AND NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME BECAUSE THERE WASN'T A SHOULDER ON WHICH TO PULL OVER. THE NEXT MORNING, I WAS TAKING IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWICE. THE SOONEST APPOINTMENT AVAILABLE WAS THIS MORNING. ACCORDING TO THE FORD SERVICE REP, THIS IS NORMAL; ALL CARS SUDDENLY STOP EVEN ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE NORMAL TO ME. I WOULD THINK THAT SUDDENLY LOSING CONTROL OF ONE'S CAR, ESPECIALLY ON A HIGHWAY, IS VERY UNSAFE. SOMETIMES, I'VE DRIVEN WITHOUT INCIDENT AND SOMETIMES, I HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE ONLY THING THAT I CAN IN COMMON IS THAT WHEN IT OCCURS, IT'S ALWAYS WITHIN A COUPLE OF MINUTES AFTER I START DRIVING.
ENGINE SURGED/FADED A FEW TIMES LATELY AND TWICE THE WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON, BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAID NO CODES WERE REPORTED AND THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS. TODAY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE SPEED SUDDENLY DECELERATED TO 0 SO I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID BEING HIT FROM BEHIND. THE WRENCH SYMBOL DISPLAYED AGAIN. AFTER TURNING THE KEY OFF/ON THE WRENCH WAS GONE AND THE CAR STARTED MOVING NORMALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEED. A FEW MINUTES LATER THE SAME ACTION REPEATED BIT WHILE SLEEPING ON THE SHOULDER I HIT A METAL OBSTRUCTION ON THE ROAD WHICH A CAUSED A FLAT TIRE. AFTER CHANGING TO THE SPARE THE ENGINE SYMBOL DISPLAYED, BUT THE CAR OPERATED AT HIGHWAY SPEED NORMALLY. I STOPPED AT AN AUTO PARTS STORE WHERE THE READ THE STORED CODES, P2111 AND P2135. IT IS NOW BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE.
GOING DOWN HIGHWAY AND ENGINE STOPPED DEW TO THROTTLE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR NO THROTTLE RESPONSE AT ALL
DOOR LOCKS WORKING INTERMITTENT TO A POINT OF NOT UNLOCKING ALL TOGETHER. PASSENGER DOORS WILL NOT OPEN, FROM THE INSIDE, WHEN THE DOOR IS LOCKED, WITH CHILD PROTECTION LOCK DISENGAGED. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION IF A FIRE OR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT SHOULD OCCUR. CHECKED ONLINE AND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE EXISTS ON FORD PRODUCTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOCKING MECHANISM WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THERE WERE METAL FRAGMENTS EMITTING FROM THE TIRES. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN MAKING A TURN, THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS ALSO A LEAKAGE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE STRUT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,045. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
WE OWN A 2010 FORD FOCUS. WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM HER COLLEGE TOWN AT 75MPH, THE CARE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. LUCKILY THEY WERE ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AT THAT POINT MULTIPLE DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON. THEY STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND IT IMMEDIATLY DIED. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. BY THE TIME THE REPAIR SHOP HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK AT THE CAR, IT STARTED UP WITHOUT INCIDENT AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER INCONCLUSIVE DIAGNOSTICS BY THE REPAIR SHOP AND MY RESEARCH ON THIS WEBSITE, WE HAD TO ASSUME IT WAS SIMILAR TO TOO MANY OTHER IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS. MY DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS CAR TO AND FROM COLLEGE, EACH ONE WAY TRIP BEING ABOUT 180 MILES. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING WE COULD "HOPE" WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. IT SOUNDED LIKE THERE HAVE BEEN TOO MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS TO NOT HAVE IT REPAIRED. WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY AT OUR OWN EXPENSE TO THE TUNE OF ABOUT $800. WE WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME ON A FORD PRODUCT. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW SO OUR DAUGHTER WOULD HAVE A SAFE CAR. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY. I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND HOW A PROBLEM LIKE THIS, WHICH SOUNDS MUCH TO COMMON, CAN BE IGNORED. FORD SHOULD BE FORCED TO ISSUE A RECALL, AS WELL AS REIMBURSE ALL THE CAR OWNERS THAT HAVE PAID OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS TO HAVE THIS FIXED. WE ARE GRATEFUL THAT OUR DAUGHTER WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, BUT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THIS FACTORY DEFECT CAUSES A ONE OR MORE FATALITIES. WE HAVE LOST ALL CONFIDENCE IN THE FORD MOTO COMPANY FOR NOT STEPPING UP MUCH, MUCH EARLIER TO CORRECT THIS.
IN ORDER TO START MY DAUGHTER'S USED 2010 FOCUS THE KEY NEEDS TO BE TURNED TO THE IDIOT LIGHTS AND WAIT UNTIL THE NEEDLES MOVE ON THE TEMP AND FUEL GUAGES AND THE CHIME COMES ON THEN CRANK IT AND IT USUALLY STARTS FIRST TRY BUT IT CAN TAKE 3 TRIES AT THIS PROCEDURE. IT CAN BE SCARY. THE 2010 MANUAL ON PAGE 175 SAYS TURN IT 3/4 (IDIOT LIGHTS) AND WAIT THEN CRANK BUT THE 2008 MANUAL SAID THAT TOO ON PAGE 150 BUT IT WASN'T EVER NECESSARY. 3 FORD DEALERS SAY THEY NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE.
2010 FORD FOCUS CAN'T BE DRIVEN IF THE ROAD IS WET. THE BACKEND TRY'S TO THROW YOU TO THE LEFT. IT HAD NEW TIRES WHEN I GOT IT. HAD IT ONE YEAR PUT ANEW SET ON AND NOW IT NEEDS ANOTHER SET. MY BOSS BOUGHT IT NEW AND HAD TO PUT 3 SETS ON. HE NEVER FOUND WHAT CAUSED IT TO THROW THE BACK END. I'M GETTING READY TO TAKE TO TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. WHEN I BOUGHT THE TIRES I WAS TOLD MY TIRES WERE WEARING OUT FROM THE INSIDE OUT. THEY ARE GOING TO CHECK IT OUT BEFORE NEW TIRES ARE PUT ON.
THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LATCH HAD BEEN STICKING ON OCCASION, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE DOOR WITH THE OUTSIDE HANDLE. IN MID-MAY, WE BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE GETTING THE DOOR TO LATCH WHEN BEING SHUT. AT TIMES IT WOULD LATCH AFTER SEVERAL TRIES, OR WHEN BEING SLAMMED EXTREMELY HARD. IN MID-JULY, THE LATCH STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER. WE NOW HAVE THE DOOR STRAPPED SHUT FROM THE INSIDE MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE THIS CAR WHEN TAKING MORE THAN ONE PASSENGER, AND THE DOOR AJAR ALARM SOUNDS EACH TIME YOU TURN A CORNER.
WE OWN A 2010 FORD FOCUS AND FOR THE PAST 6 WEEKS WE HAVE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR DOES NOT SHUT OFF BUT ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE IS GONE. ONCE WE STOP THE CAR, TURN IT OFF AND RESTART IT, THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE IS RESTORED. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST SIX WEEKS. IT IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS ON A FOUR LANE ROAD WHEN THERE IS NO CHANCE TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE AND YOU HAVE TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF FAST MOVING TRAFFIC, TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART IT. IT ALSO HAPPENED WHEN TURNING ONTO A BUSY FOUR LANE ROAD FROM A SHOPPING CENTER. WE WERE TURNING LEFT ACROSS TRAFFIC WITH PLENTY OF ROOM AND TIME TO MAKE THE TURN UNTIL WE LOST ACCELERATION, PUTTING US IN HARMS WAY WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY THE ONCOMING DRIVERS WERE PAYING ATTENTION AND STOPPED WHILE WE WERE STOPPED, TURNING OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTING TO REGAIN ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. IN RESEARCHING ONLINE AND TALKING TO THE LOCAL FORD MECHANIC, IT LOOKS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FORD FOCUS. THE PROBLEM CENTERS AROUND THE THROTTLE BODY AND SENSORS, CAUSING A DISENGAGEMENT WITH THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. SO FAR WE HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE AND HAVE NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BUT I CAN NO LONGER PUT MY FAMILY IN THIS VEHICLE UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED. IT IS JUST TOO UNSAFE WITH THIS ISSUE.

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE MECHANISM INSIDE THE DOORS NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
WHEN I TURN THE KEY TO START THE VEHICLE IT OFTEN WON'T START - IF I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL OR SOMETIMES SHIFT IT INTO A DIFFERENT GEAR (IT'S A STANDARD), IT MAY START. THERE IS NO DISTINCT PATTERN OF WHEN IT WILL AND WHEN IT WON'T START. IT HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE LATELY AND I'M WORRIED I WILL GET STRANDED. WHEN DRIVING THIS CAR AND THE SPEED REACHES ABOUT 40 MPH THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR REDUCES SPEED AND YOU CAN PUSH THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN AND IT WILL GO NO FASTER THAN 30 MPH. THE ONLY FIX IS TO HIT THE TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH ON THE DASH AND THIS TURNS THE TRACTION OFF AND ALLOWS YOU NOT TO GET KILLED. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP TO SEE IF ANY TROUBLE CODES WOULD POP UP AND THE SCAN SAID THE CAR WAS FINE NO ISSUES. WHEN YOU DRIVE THE CAR IT TELLS A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY .IT WILL NOT BE LONG UNTIL SOME ONE GETS TO AN INTERSECTION AND A TRUCK IS BARRING DOWN ON THEM AND THE CAR WILL NOT SAFELY ACCELERATE TO GET YOU OUT OF DANGER. I HAVE FOUND NOTHING THAT WILL FIX THIS PROBLEM SO I WILL TRY TO SELL IT BACK TO A DEALERSHIP. SAD THING IS WE STILL OWE $5000. ON IT BUT DON'T FEEL SAFE IN IT. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FOCUS. WHEN THE IGNITION WAS STARTED, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
THE CAR STARTED JERKING FORWARD AT A STOP LIGHT - TURNED THE HEAT OFF AND IT STOPPED JERKING. PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK IT STARTED REVVING ITSELF AND JERKING FORWARD (MADE IT UP TO 2000RMP BEFORE I COULD TURN IT OFF). WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND THE CAR STARTED JERKING FORWARD - BEFORE I COULD TURN THE HEAT OFF THE CAR STALLED OUT COMPLETELY. TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CAR JERKED FORWARD: IDLE, PARK AND OCCASIONALLY IN DRIVE. I KNOW THAT OTHER FORD MODELS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND I BELIEVE THAT FORD RECALLED AND FIXED THE OTHER MODELS. IT MAKES ME WONDER IF THE FOCUS IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE OTHER MODELS DID. MAYBE THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO THE FOCUS ALSO. *JS
DOORS RANDOMLY FAIL TO OPEN FROM INSIDE. MOST OF THE TIME IT IS THE REAR DOORS AND CAN ONLY BE UNLOCKED FROM THE MASTER (FRONT) RELEASE. IT ACTS AS IF THE CHILD LOCK IS ENGAGED, BUT HAVE VERIFIED IT IS NOT. I SEE THIS IS A PROBLEM FROM NUMEROUS OWNERS, SO WILL HAVE IT CHECKED AT THE NEXT SERVICE VISIT. MY 2010 FORD FOCUS WILL FREQUENTLY EXPERIENCE A VERY ROUGH IDLE, AND WILL ALMOST STALL WHILE STATIONARY. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER SLOWING DOWN. MY LOCAL FORD DEALER SEEMS TO BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY CAN REPLACE MY THROTTLE BODY WITH AN "UPDATED VERSION THAT DOESN'T STICK". IF THIS IS A SYSTEMATIC SAFETY PROBLEM, A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. *TR
THE BACK DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT UNLOCK; I HAVE TRIED TO CHANGE THE "CHILD PROOF LOCK" TO BE DISENGAGED, BUT HOW DO YOU GET THE DOOR OPEN TO EVEN CHANGE IT IF THE DOOR WON'T UNLOCK. THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY INCORRECTLY STATES THAT THE DRIVERS DOOR IS OPEN WHEN IT ISN'T. THIS CAUSES THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY TO "LOCK" AND I CAN NO LONGER SEE THE ODOMETER OR THE MILEAGE. FURTHERMORE THE INTERIOR LIGHTS CONTINUOUSLY STAY ON EVEN WHEN TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD (THIS RESULTS IN A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE INTERIOR LIGHTS MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO SEE THE ROAD AT NIGHT). SINCE HALF OF MY TRIP IS ON ROADS THAT ARE RURAL IN AMENITIES, I WAS UNABLE TO LIMP TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP OR AUTO PARTS PLACE THE OFFER TESTING SERVICES. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD BE DONE UNDER A ROLL AS IT IS A 5SPD. THE CAR RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY AND RAN PERFECT THE REST OF THE WAY HOME (ABOUT 25 MILES). THIS VEHICLE RAN FINE FOR THREE MORE WEEKS AND THEN BEGAN DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN.
