WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE GAS PEDAL NO LONGER ACCELERATES THE VEHICLE ON OCCASION, WOW STUCK IN TRAFFIC OR AT A STOPLIGHT THE CAR SHUTS ITSELF OFF AFTER HAVING A HIGH IDLE. *TR
ENGINE STALLS WHILE DRIVING AND WILL NOT RESTART. I SUSPECT THAT IT IS RELATED TO SIMILAR ISSUES DRIVERS ARE HAVING WITH THE EVAP CANISTER PURGE VALVE IN OTHER MODEL YEARS: "THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE MAY MALFUNCTION AND CREATE EXCESSIVE VACUUM IN THE FUEL VAPOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, WHICH CAN RESULT IN THE ENGINE STALLING WITHOUT RESTARTING. DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND REPLACE THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE AS NEEDED. IF THE VALVE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, DEALERS WILL ALSO INSPECT AND REPLACE THE CARBON CANISTER, FUEL TANK AND FUEL DELIVERY MODULE AS DETERMINED TO BE NEEDED. ALL REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE TO RESOLVE THE CONCERN."
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the RMP increased and revved causing the vehicle to crash into an unoccupied vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. No injuries were sustained. The contact stated there was a minor scratch on the front of her vehicle. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened, and advised the contact to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.
I HAVE CHANGED MANY PARTS ON MY 2010 FORD FOCUS SE 2.0 AND HAS NOT CHANGED ANYTHING. I STARTED OUT WITH NOT IDLING AND AFTER SPENDING A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS IT HAS NOT CHANGED ANYTHING. VERY DANGEROUS. WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP IT SHUTS OFF. THE PERSON BEHIND YOU THINKS YOUR GOING TO PROCEED AND YOU DON'T DO TO CAR SHUT OFF IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS POSITION YOUR IN. I DID READ THAT THERE ARE MANY OF THESES MYSTERY PROBLEMS WITH THESES VEHICLES AND FORD CANT EVEN FIGURE IT OUT. IF THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH MANY THAN WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN CORRECTED BY FORD. DOES SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO BE HURT BEFORE IT BECOMES A RECALL? I HAVE ALSO HEARD THAT THIS HAPPENS UNDER WARRANTY AND UP TO 100K. VERRY SORRY!
FORD FOCUS (2010) RECALL - MY MOM IS 80 YEARS OLD AND NEEDS HER CAR TO WORK PROPERLY. SHE HAS A 2010 FORD FOCUS WITH SHUDDERING PROBLEMS AND IDELING PROBLEMS.WHEN SHE EXCELERATES THE CAR IS VERY SLUGGISH AND SLOW TO SPEED UP. MY 2010 FORD FOCUS WILL FREQUENTLY EXPERIENCE A VERY ROUGH IDLE, AND WILL ALMOST STALL WHILE STATIONARY. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER SLOWING DOWN. MY LOCAL FORD DEALER SEEMS TO BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY CAN REPLACE MY THROTTLE BODY WITH AN "UPDATED VERSION THAT DOESN'T STICK". WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH ENGINE SHUT OFF AND AFTER STOPPING AND ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE ENGINE WOULD ONLY SPUTTER. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT DID RESTART AND AS WE WERE 120 MILES FROM HOME THIS EVENT REOCCURRED A DOZEN OR MORE TIMES WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATING AFTER 7 INSTANCES OF STALLING. THE REPAIR SHOP WE TOOK IT TO FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND MADE THE REPAIR. AS SOME DEAL WAS APPARENTLY MADE BETWEEN THE MANUFACTURER OF THE VEHICLE AND THE GOVERNMENT AGENCY RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSURING MY SAFETY IN ORDER TO MAXIMIZE COMPANY PROFITS AT MY EXPENSE I AM NONE THE LESS MAKING A REPORT. *TR

DEALER CLAIMS IT IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. MECHANIC DISAGREES. THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN OCCURRING FOR THE LAST 18 MONTHS APPROXIMATELY.

THE SERVICE TECH AT LITHIA FORD FRESNO, CA IMMEDIATELY SAID THAT IT WAS A MOTOR MOUNT. FORTUNATELY FOR ME IT WAS STILL UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AND NOT THE TIME ONE. STILL I HAD TO BUY 2 FRONT TIRES WHICH COST $270. *TR
I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE 120K SERVICE. THE SERVICE WAS COMPLETED. A WEEK LATER I TOOK THE CAR BACK AND ASKED THEM THE CHECK A YELLOW CRUSTING UNDER THE DASHBOARD IN THE FRONT PASSENGER FOOTWELL. THEY DID AND SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS OR WHAT WOULD CAUSE IT. A WEEK LATER WE NOTICED A SMELL IN THE CABIN. THE CAR WAS NOW 3 YEARS OLD AND WE HAD A SIMILAR SMELL 18 MONTHS PRIOR THAT COST US $1800 TO REPLACE THE AC CORE. SURELY THIS COULD NOT BE ANOTHER AC CORE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THEM AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG...EVEN THE SMELL HAD GONE. I TOOK THE CAR AND ON THE WAY HOME I NOTICED THE CAR WAS BEGINNING TO OVERHEAT...FORD WAS ALREADY CLOSED. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE RADIATOR. I TOPPED IT UP AND IT TOOK A GALLON OF WATER. I WATCHED THE LEVEL FOR A FEW MINUTES AND IT DIDN'T MOVE. I DROVE HOME OK AND RECHECKED THE RADIATOR...SAME LEVEL. IT DROVE THE FOLLOWING DAY OK TOO. THEN IN THE EVENING I NOTICED IT WAS GETTING HOT AGAIN. THIS TIME I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 70MPH AND IT SUDDENLY CUT THE POWER ON THE ENGINE. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE AND HAD TO DODGE TRAFFIC TO COAST TO A HALT ON THE SHOULDER WITH THE ENGINE AT IDLE SPEED AND NO POWER. THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE AND MY FOOT WAS FLOORED, BUT THE ENGINE PRODUCED NO POWER WHATSOEVER...DIDN'T EVEN REV HIGH. WHEN I CHECKED THE RADIATOR AGAIN IT WAS VERY LOW AND TOOK ANOTHER GALLON OF WATER. I MANAGED TO DRIVE HOME AGAIN BUT NEITHER THE AC NOR THE HEATER WOULD WORK. WE ALSO NOTICED THE CARPET IN THE PASSENGER FOOTWELL WAS NOW WET AND THE SMELL WAS BACK WITH A VENGEANCE. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THE HEATER CORE WAS THE PROBLEM AND HAD CUT THE POWER TO THE ENGINE BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING AND TO PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. IT COST ME ANOTHER $1800 FOR THE HEATER CORE AND THE CARPET TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 FORD FOCUS THAT HAS A "RAW GAS SMELL IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND IN THE TRUNK" AREA. THIS SMELL IS NOT CONSTANT, AT TIMES WE SMELL IT FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND THEN AT OTHER TIMES NO SMELL. BUT MOSTLY WE SMELL RAW GAS. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT TWICE. THEY COULD SMELL THE FUMES, WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN, BUT COULD NOT FIND WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT THERE FOR A COUPLE DAYS TO BE COMPLETELY CHECKED.. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND NOR FIX THE PROBLEM. THE "GAS FUMES GIVE ME HEADACHES WHEN DRIVING" THE VEHICLE ALSO I WORRY THAT THIS "RAW GAS COULD CAUSE A FIRE." *TR
WOULD LOSE RPM'S AT IDLE AND ALMOST STALL. WENT TO DEALERSHIP (NO HELP), COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG BECAUSE NO CODES, EVEN THOUGH ENGINE WAS STILL IDLING RUFF FOR THEM. DEALERSHIP WAS NOT HAPPY THAT I BROUGHT THE CAR IN BEFORE 50,000 MILES, STATING I SHOULDN'T NEED TUNE-UP TIL THIS MILEAGE. WENT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC (CERTIFIED) WHO COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING, AGAIN NO CODES. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO DATE. GOING TO MECHANIC FOR IDLE SENSOR REPLACEMENT, HOPING THIS WILL HELP. *TR
