PARK ASSIST FAILURE MAKES THE CAR LOOSE POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. IT WILL DO IT WITH NO WARNING AND YOU ALL OF A SUDDEN CAN NOT STEER. IT WILL NOT RESET AND THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT AS IT HAPPENED ALL OF A SUDDEN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH AND FAILED TO SHIFT PROPERLY FROM PARK INTO OTHER GEARS. THE DEALER (HAGERSTOWN FORD, 1714 MASSEY BLVD, HAGERSTOWN, MD 21740, (301) 733-3673) WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO SCHEDULE A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
WHEN ENTERING THE CAR I HEAR A STATIC SOUND , CHECK RADIO AND IT'S OFF. WHEN I TURN OFF MOTOR AND GO OUT AND THEN COME BACK IN AS A STATIC SOUND FROM THE RADIO LIKE IT'S ON
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH WILL NOT KEEP THE DOOR CLOSED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE DOOR FLEW OPEN ON A BACKROAD. I HAD TO BUNGEE MY DOORS SHUT JUST TO MAKE IT HOME. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AND I AM WORRIED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR NEXT TIME.
TRANSMISSION SLIPS, SHUDDERS AND JERKS WHILE MECHANICAL CLANKING NOISE COMES FROM THE CAR. FOUR TIMES, I CAN RECALL, WAS ALMOST IN A MAJOR ACCIDENTS AND COUNTLESS TIMES OF VEHICLE SPUTTERING TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. CLUTCH HAS BEEN CHANGED AT LEAST THREE TIMES BUT PROBLEM RETURNS. MANUFACTURER AND DEALERSHIPS LIE TO ME. I FEEL STUCK IN A LEMON THAT IS TRUELY EMBARRASSING TO DRIVE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE! SOMEDAY, SOMETHING BAD WILL MORE THAN LIKELY HAPPEN. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. MONEY CAN NOT REPLACE LIVES. SAFETY FIRST!

THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT'S WIFE, WHO WAS EIGHT MONTHS PREGNANT, STRUCK THE STEERING COLUMN AND SOUGHT MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE DEALER (GEORGE WAIKEM FORD, 4321 LINCOLN WAY E, MASSILLON, OH) WAS CALLED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NO RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000.
TAKATA RECALL - CALL ROLLS BACKWARDS WHEN STOPPED. TROUBLE ACCELERATING
STARTED VEHICLE, PUT IN REVERSE AND BEGAN BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY. I IMMEDIATELY COULD TELL SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOST ALL POWER STEERING. THE DASH LIT UP SAYING 'STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED'.
LAST MONTH CHECK ENGINE CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. CAR JERKED AND ACTED AS IF IT WANTED TO CUT OFF AND WHEN PUTTING CAR IN REVERSE THE CAR WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE. WHILE DRIVING ON JULY 14TH AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO FORD DEALERSHIP WHICH THEY REPROGRAMMED TCM THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FOR THE SAME CODE AS BEFORE ABOUT SHIFT FORK B ISSUES. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR JERKED A COUPLE OF TIMES AND ACTED AS IF IT WANTED TO CUT OFF AND NOT ACCELERATE. FORD STATES THEY WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE UNLESS FOR THE CURRENT RECALLS ON THE CLUTCH AND TCM FAILURE.
MOST OF THE ENTERTAINMENT CONSOLE HAS STOPPED WORKING. THERE IS ALSO A STATIC NOISE THAT COMES AROUND WHENEVER IT WANTS. I CAN USE THE MENU BUTTON AND WHEN IT'S PRESSED THE OTHER TWO THINGS THAT SHOW ARE THE CLOCK MENU AND THE DISPLAY MENU. I CAN NOT USE ANY OTHER FUNCTIONS ON THE CONSOLE, I CAN PUT IN AND TAKE OUT A CD BUT I CAN NOT PLAY ANYTHING ON THE CD BECAUSE NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN I PRESS THE CD BUTTON. I LOOKED ONLINE AND IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. CHECKED THE BATTERY AND THE FUSE THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH IT BASED ON THE OWNERS MANUAL AND THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE. IT NOW MAKES THE STATIC NOISE EVEN WHEN I TURN OFF THE CAR AND TAKE OUT THE KEYS. GOES AWAY ONCE I CLOSE THE DOOR. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING BUT I WOULD LIKE IT TO BE FIX PLEASE.
TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION LIGHT ON, CAR NOT GOING INTO GEARS PROPERLY. LURCHING, HESITATING. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN LIGHT CAME ON.
UPON ACCELERATION AND DRIVING IT APPEARS TO DROP GEARS AND SLOW DOWN. YOU CAN'T ACCELERATE, IT'S LIKE IT'S IN NEUTRAL AND YOU CAN'T GO. THIS HAPPENS IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PACIFICO FORD (LOCATED AT 6701 ESSINGTON AVE, PHILADELPHIA, PA, (267) 233-6945) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WHILE VEHICLE IN MOTION (UNABLE TO STEER). TURNED KEY OFF THEN BACK ON AFTER GETTING CAR STOPPED AND STEERING WORKED. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT INITIAL START UP ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE IT. AT INITIAL START UP WE WERE UNABLE TO EVEN TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITH ENGINE RUNNING. ON ONE OCCASION I HAD TO RETURN HALF HOUR LATER AND IT DID FUNCTION PROPERLY. VERY UNPREDICTABLE. FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS IT'S THE STEERING GEAR AND COSTS ABOUT $2,000 TO REPLACE. DISPLAY ON VEHICLE SAYS PROBLEM IS ELECTRIC ASSIST FOR POWER STEERING. VEHICLE HAS 89,000 MILES ON IT. NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE IF LOSES POWER STEERING ASSIST. ADDITIONALLY THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WILL NOT ROLL UP OR DOWN. RUBBER DOOR GASKETS CONTINUE TO FALL OFF ON ALL FOUR DOORS. THE DUST COVER UNDER THE MOTOR IS NOTHING MORE THAN A PIECE OF CARDBOARD WITH SOME SPRAYED ON FUZZY FAKE MATERIAL COVERING ONE SIDE.
THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE STEERING ASSIST CAME ON WHILE I WAS DOING 5 MPH . AND THE FUEL TANK IS BEING HAS BEEN DEFORMED BECAUSE OF A VACUUM PROBLEM WITH THE CAP LESS GAS TANK. I KNOW THAT THE REST OF THE 2012 FUSION AND ESCAPE HAVE BEEN RECALLED,BECAUSE OF THE DANGER OF DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND STEERING WILL LOOSE CONTROLL
DOOR LATCH ON DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER DOOR STOPPED SECURING THE DOOR - WOULD NOT KEEP DOOR FROM OPENING - WOULD NOT KEEP DOOR IN CLOSED POSITION. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. A TIE-DOWN STRAP IS KEEPING DOOR FROM SWINGING OPEN.
FOLLOWING THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT ROUGH IDLE AND STALLING. THE VEHICLE HAS LOGGED APPROXIMATELY 88,000 MILES. AN ASE CERTIFIED AUTOMOTIVE SHOP HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM WHICH IS CONSISTENT WITH A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ON THE ISSUE WHEREIN THE FUEL SYSTEM DOES NOT PROPERLY EQUALIZE PRESSURE. THIS RESULTS IN A VACUUM THAT STARVES THE ENGINE OF FUEL AND CAUSES THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK TO COLLAPSE. THE VEHICLE STALLS WHILE APPROACHING OR STOPPED AT BUSY INTERSECTIONS. THIS POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. ADDITIONALLY, THE STRESS ON THE FUEL TANK MAY COMPROMISE ITS STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY. THIS SAFETY CONCERN SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF FORD AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED.
THE CAR DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WILL NOT CLOSE.
I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 65MPH AND MY FORD FOCUS DISPLAYED A YELLOW WRENCH AND A STOP SAFELY NOW TRIANGLE, THE CAR LOST POWER AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED AND FOUGHT WITH THE CAR TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD
ON FRIDAY, 06/08/2018 I LOST MY STEERING ASSIST DUE TO A "STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION". I AM ABLE TO STEER THE CAR BUT AS A SENIOR CITIZEN I FEEL THAT I AM PUTTING MY LIFE, AS WELL AS OTHERS, AT RISK FOR A KNOWN DEFECT THAT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS KNOWN ABOUT FOR YEARS, HAVE RECALLED MANY OF THEIR MODEL VEHICLES WITH THE SAME "DEFECT" EXCEPT THE FORD FOCUS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR EVERYONE. PLEASE GET FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO CORRECT THEIR INTENTIONAL NEGLECT OF THIS MATTER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF, RESTARTED, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE PROPERLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED FIVE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND TRANSFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
THE CAR WILL CUT OFF ONCE YOU TRY TO START IT UP AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS. IT ALSO STALLS WHILE YOU'RE SITTING IDLE AT A LIGHT. THE GAS GAUGE IS ALSO BROKEN. IT STAYS AT FULL AND MOVES AROUND FREELY.
BEFORE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE THAT HAS A REBUILT TITLE AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED, I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED BY MY LOCAL FORD SERVICE DEPT. EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT FINE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF REPLACING THE AIR BAG. AFTER THE AIR BAG WAS REPLACED (~$1000 LATER), THEY PROCEED TO TELL ME THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS STILL ON AND THE SENSORS NEED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WILL COST US ANOTHER $2000. IF THIS WAS KNOWN AT THE TIME OF THE DIAGNOSTIC, WE WOULD HAVE NEVER MADE THIS PURCHASE.
THE FORD FOCUS ELECTRIC HAS TWO "DRIVE" MODES: "D" AND "L". THE LATTER IS MORE AGGRESSIVE IN REGENERATIVE BRAKING. WHEN I APPROACH A RIGHT TURN INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD, THERE IS A SHORT SEGMENT OF CEMENT BETWEEN THE TWO ASPHALT ROADS. I BELIEVE THE TRACTION/STEERING CONTROL GETS CONFUSED, AND THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING DISENGAGES, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE AND LURCH FORWARD, EVEN IF I AM BRAKING/DECELERATING. STEERING BEHAVIOR ALSO SEEMS AFFECTED. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS VERY DISCONCERTING AS I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO CRASH INTO THE VEHICLE STOPPED AT THE CROSS-STREET I WAS TURNING ONTO. I CAN REPRODUCE THIS CONSISTENTLY.
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. OUR FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT LATCH QUIT WORKING PROPERLY. MY HUSBAND WHICH IS AN AVERAGE SIZE GUY ALMOST GOT STUCK. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT LATCH IS NOT WORKING EITHER. IT STOPPED WORKING ABOUT A YEAR AFTER OWNING THE CAR. WE HAVE TO SHOVE A CARD IN IT TO PUT THE RED BUTTON BACK OUT.
STEERING ASSIST FAULT WENT OUT AS I WAS DRIVING AND WAS ALMOST KILLED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER FAILED TO SHIFT FROM PARK INTO REVERSE. THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AS THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE IT WAS ABLE TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE RELAY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. ON A DIFFERENT OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH IN THE RAIN, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE HYDROPLANED AND CRASHED INTO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE AIR BAG FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,309.
STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION ON FORD FOCUS 2012 MODEL. THIS ERROR WOULD COME UP PERIODICALLY OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS, BUT WOULD GO AWAY WHEN RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. NOW THE ERROR COMES ON EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. THE POWER STEERING IS COMPLETELY OUT. DRIVEN ABOUT 2000 MILES SINCE ERROR FIRST NOTICED. MILEAGE NOW 116,895.
MY RADIO POPS CRACKS AND WHATEVER ELSE THE NOISES ARE IT CAN MAKE. WORKS FOR A LITTLE WHILE THEN POPS LIKE I'VE BEEN SHOT. VERY LOUD BANG. THIS HAPPENS IF MY CAR IS RUNNING AND IF IT'S NOT. IT CAN BE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND I WALK OUT OF MY HOUSE AND I CAN HEAR THE STATIC IT POPS AND CRACKS REAL LOUD. TODAY IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS OFF AIR BUT MADE A WHISTLING NOISE LIKE I WAS IN A TUNNEL. IT'S SCARY NOT KNOWING IF IT'S GONNA START A FIRE IN MY CAR. I NEVER SMELL ANYTHING LIKE MELTING WIRES. IVE HAD IT LOOKED AT AND MY MECHANIC CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM. THE FUSES ARE GOOD AND HAVE BEEN CHANGED. THIS PROBLEMS OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING, WHEN IT'S PARKED IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER. I DIDN'T FILE A COMPLAINT EARLIER BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE RADIO WAS GOING OUT, WHEN I LOOKED ON THE FORD SITE I SEE THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2012 FORD FOCUS.

THE FUEL GAUGE ALSO PROVIDED INACCURATE INFORMATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT AND REAR DOOR HANDLES. THE TRANSMISSION WAS ALSO REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JORDAN FORD LOCATED AT 13010 N. INTERSTATES 35, SAN ANTONIO, TX 78233 AND REPAIRED UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V515000 (FUEL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated after 2 hours, he was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving to his destination. The contact also stated that after refueling the vehicle the vehicle was difficult to start. The contact stated that the vehicle would then jerk intermittently while driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V735000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH ON A CITY STREET ENTERING A HIGHWAY. THE CAR REVED AND WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF GEAR BUT WAS STILL RUNNING. I TRIED TURNING IT OFF BUT THEN IT WOULD NOT START BACK UP AND THE DISPLAY IS SHOWING IT'S IN DRIVE BUT THE GEAR IS IN PARK
THE DRIVERS SIDE PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT LOCK OR CLOSE. IT WILL FLY OPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE BACKSEAT BUCKLED UP WHEN THE DOOR WHICH WAS LOCKED, FLEW OPEN ON THE HIGHWAY AS I WENT AROUND A TURN. I HAVE TO KEEP IT STRAPPED SHUT WITH A ROPE SO IT DOESN'T FLY OPEN AND HURT SOMEONE, AND I CAN'T HAVE MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE. EVEN IF I HAD IT IN A DIFFERENT SEAT WHO KNOWS IF THE OTHER DOORS WILL GO TOO. IT DOES NOT CLOSE OR LOCK AT ALL, EVEN WHEN NOT TURNING THE DOOR JUST HANGS OPEN. I SAW THERE WAS A RECALL BUT WHEN I ENTERED MY VIN NUMBER IT SAYS IT'S NOT A PART OF THE RECALL.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
MY CAR HAS BEEN GOING BACKWARD WHEN IN DRIVE AND THEN JUST WON'T GO. TODAY IT TOTALLY STOPPED MOVING WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THANK GOD I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. WALKED TO THE GARAGE DOWN AROUND THE BEND AND THEY PUSHED IT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND INTO THEIR YARD. BEFORE TOTALLY STOPPING THE CAR WOULD BUCK FORWARD WHILE DRIVING THEN SLOW DOWN AND SPEED UP ON ITS OWN. NOW WON'T START OR RUN. POSSIBLY THE TRANSMISSION OR GEAR STICK
FIRST PROBLEM IS WITH THE RADIO. THIS BEGAN WHEN MY CAR HAD 37000 MILES AND THE RADIO WOULD MAKE A LOUD THUMPING SOUND. THE CAR WOULD SEEM TO SHAKE AND I DID NOT REALIZE IT WAS THE RADIO UNTIL THE OTHER ISSUES BEGAN. A LOUD SCREECHING AND POPPING STARTED WHICH WOULD COME OUT OF NOWHERE. THIS CAN CAUSE A BIG DISTURBANCE SINCE YOU ARE NOT EXPECTING IT TO HAPPEN AND IT IS EXTREMELY LOUD. EVENTUALLY THE SOUND ALWAYS OCCURRED AND EVEN AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF IT WOULD STILL CONTINUE - DOORS OPEN AND KEYS OUT OF IGNITION. IT FINALLY STOPPED AND THERE IS NO SOUND, BUT AFTER SIX MONTHS IT STARTED MAKING THE SOUND AGAIN, AND AGAIN OUT OF NOWHERE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING BECAUSE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SOUND COMING FROM THE RADIO, OFF OR ON AND IT WILL SUDDENLY START TO SHRIEK OR POP. IT STOPPED AGAIN, BUT I AM WAITING FOR IT TO BEGIN AGAIN. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE AND THEY HAVE NOT SEEN THIS ISSUE BEFORE. MY NEXT ISSUE IS WITH THE WIPER BLADES. THIS BEGAN RECENTLY AND I HAVE AROUND 45000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. AT FIRST THE WIPER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLEW OFF WHILE IN USE. I THOUGHT THAT I HAD POSSIBLY PUT TR HE WIPES ON INCORRECTLY EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN WORKING FINE FOR A MONTH OR SO. I HAD THE AUTO PARTS STORE PUT NEW BLADES ON AND AGAIN ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER IT FLEW OFF. LUCKILY I HADN'T DRIVEN OFF AND WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE THE WIPER AND PUT IT BACK ON THIS TIME. THREE MONTHS LATER THE DRIVERS SIDE WIPER WILL JUST STOP WORKING MIDWAY THROUGH THE WINDOW. I CAN FLIP THE WIPERS ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES AND IT WILL WORK FOR A SECOND, BUT CONTINUES TO GET STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE PASSENGERS SIDE GETS STUCK AS WELL, BUT WILL FIX ITSELF.
FIRST TIME POWER STEERING QUIT I HAD JUST STARTED IT IN THE MORNING TO GO WORK, HAD TO SHUT CAR OFF THEN TURN IT BACK ON AND STEERING WOULD WORK THEN. SECOND TIME I LOST STEERING WHEN I WAS TURNING OFF OF A 55MPH HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN AND POWER STEERING QUIT, FORCING ME TO GO OFF IN THE DITCH. WAS VERY FRUSTRATING AND NOW AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE CAR THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT START WORKING AT ALL. SO I HAVE TO DRIVE EVERY DAY WITHOUT IT. VERY FRUSTRATING WHEN I PAY THIS MUCH FOR A VEHICLE AND I HAVE TO GET CHARGED $1,200+ TO FIX IT. DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT SO JUST DRIVE WITHOUT IT NOW. FRUSTRATING.
DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH SHUT. THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE SINCE SEPTEMBER 2016, WHICH I HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED ABOUT. HOW DOES IT TAKE 2 YEARS TO GET IN CONTACT WITH A PERSON WHO BOUGHT A FORD FROM THE DEALERSHIP?
I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE AT A GAS STATION WHEN THE "STEERING ASSIST FAULT" "SERVICE REQUIRED" CAME ON THIS HAPPENED AROUND 80K MILES. NOW SITTING AT 88K MILES I RECENTLY HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY REPLACED IN IT COSTING ME ALMOST 1,800 DOLLARS IN REPAIRS. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS WITH THIS CAR HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AROUND ABOUT THE SAME MILEAGE INTERVALS. I'M HOPING THIS ISSUE HASN'T CAUSED ANY SERIOUS INJURY OR FATALITIES.
2012 FORD FOCUS SEL HATCHBACK STARTED TO DEVELOP STUTTER AND STALL ON LOW LOAD. COULD BE UNDER COASTING AT 60MPH OR SLOWING TO STOP. THE REVS DROP AND ENGINE STALLS. WHILE COASTING, PUT THE CAR IN N AND RESTARTED ENGINE. WAS OK AFTER THAT. CK ENG LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED CODES, REPLACED EVAP PURGE VALVE AND ATTEMPTING TO REPLACE O2 SENSOR. UNABLE TO REMOVE OLD ONE AT THIS POINT. CLEARED CODE. CK ENG LIGHT CAME BACK ON BUT CAR SEEMS TO BEHAVE LIKE NORMAL. WILL HAVE TO PULL CODE AGAIN. WILL BE EXTREMELY UNHAPPY IF FUEL TANK HAS COLLAPSED. THE GAUGE STARTED READING FAULTY BUT BASED ON REFUEL DATES AND MILES DRIVEN THE TANK SEEMS TO TAKE THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF FUEL. RAN OUT OF GAS WITH INFO CENTER STATING 10 MILES LEFT. EACH TIME THE CAR STALLS IT HAS NO ISSUE RESTARTING. IT ONLY HAS TROUBLE RIGHT AFTER FILLING UP. IT CRANKS FOR A WHILE. THEN IT TURNS OVER AND DOES FINE. CAR WOULD ALSO IDLE AT WRONG LEVELS. ALWAYS USED TO IDLE AT ABOUT 750RPM, WHICH IT DOES AGAIN NOW THAT EVAP PURGE VALVE HAS BEEN REPLACED. BEFORE THE EVAP PURGE VALVE REPLACEMENT THE CAR WOULD FEEL LIKE IT'S ENGINE BRAKING WHEN COASTING INSTEAD OF JUST ROLLING LIKE A NORMAL AUTOMATIC. THE CAR HASN'T BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A DEALERSHIP YET. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH LOCAL DEALERSHIPS HERE.
POWER STEERING FAILURE AT 63000 MILES. RESULTING IN $2222 BILL TO REPLACE POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY. ERROR CODE "STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED" WAS DISPLAYED 5-8 TIMES WHILE BACKING UP AT STARTUP ON PRIOR OCCASIONS. FOR ALL PRIOR OCCASIONS RESTARTING THE CAR CLEARED THE ISSUE. ON THE LAST OCCURRENCE THE ISSUE WOULD NOT CLEAR LEAVING THE CAR WITH MANUAL STEERING.
THE CAR LOSSES STEERING ASSISTANCE ON THE ROAD OCCASIONALLY. THE LIGHT SAYING "STEERING ASSISTANT FAULT" ALSO COMES ON. THEN TYPICALLY AFTER 1DAY OR 2, THE SYSTEM RESUMES ITSELF. WHEN IT HAPPENS, WHEEL BECOMES REALLY HEAVY AND NOT POSSIBLE TO TURN AT 60-79MPH ON HIGHWAY. AT LOWER SPEED, IT NEEDS VERY HARD PULLING TO JUST MAKE A NORMAL RIGHT OR LEFT TURNING. I ALSO HAVE TO DECREASE SPEED WHEN MAKING THE TURN AND CAUSING VEHICLES AFTER TO DECREASE SPEED ALSO. THE FORD MANUFACTURER MECHANIC HAVE MADE FULL DIAGNOSTIC OF THE STEERING PART. THEY COULDN'T FIND A REASON AND ALSO SAID THERE COULD BE NO REASON. THE ELECTRICITY SYSTEM OF RELATED PART COULD JUST BE OUT OF ORDER SOME TIME AND THEN BECAME NORMAL AGAIN--TOLD BY THE MECHANIC. IT'S ALSO CONFIRMED SUCH DISORDER IS NOT CAUSED BY CAR WASH OR COSMETIC DAMAGE ON CAR'S SURFACE. THE PART IS ALSO NOT REPAIRABLE BUT HAVE TO BE REPLACED TO SOLVE THE ISSUE, WHICH APPEARS TO BE A FAULT OF DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND OVER HUNDREDS OF SUCH ISSUE FOR FORD FOCUS 2012-2014, DISCUSSED ON FORUM AND ALSO REPORTED BY MEDIA. TODAY, BEFORE WRITING THIS, THE FAULT JUST HAPPENED ON MY CAR AGAIN. I THINK IT BEGINS TO HAPPEN MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY EVER SINCE THE FIRST TIME. THE FIRST TIME WAS MAY 13TH, 2018; SECOND WAS JULY 19TH, THEN TODAY: AUG. 1ST. IT IS TERRIFYING HOW FREQUENTLY IT MAY HAPPEN ON ROAD IN FUTURE. AND WHAT'S MORE, MY CAR'S ODOMETER IS ONLY 44K MILES. HOPE THE COMPLAINT COULD BE VALID AND MEASUREMENT DONE TOWARDS FORD. THANK YOU

I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT WHILE IT WAS RAINING I WANTED TO USE THE WIPERS TO CLEAR THE RAIN USING THE INTERMITTENT BUTTON BUT THEY WOULD NOT SHUT OFF AND THEN THE WIPER JUST STOPPED, I CAN PUT THE PASSENGER WIPER DOWN MANUAL AND THEN THE WIPER WILL CLOSE. THE WIPERS WILL NOT OPERATE NOW

IT WAS A RATHER LOUD "BOOM" WHICH STARTLED ME AND ALMOST GOT ME A SWERVE INTO ANOTHER CAR. WHEN I GOT TO MY DESTINATION I TURNED OFF THE CAR, AND THEN TRIED TO START IT BACK UP AGAIN TO SEE IF MAYBE IT WOULD TURN ON , WELL IT DID, BUT NOW MY CAR RANDOMLY DOES THIS LIKE EVERYDAY! AND IT STARTLED ME EVERY TIME!!!!!! WHICH IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT!!!!!
2012 FORD FOCUS TITANIUM DPS6 EQUIPPED CLUTCH SHUDDER INSTANCES AND TCM FAILURE -- 2018 ACCELERATION IS UNPREDICTABLE. BEFORE WARRANTY REPAIR, THE CAR WOULD HAVE NOTICEABLE LAG WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THIS HAS LED TO SEVERAL DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHERE THE CAR IS EXPECTED TO ACCELERATE, BUT INSTEAD SLOWLY CRAWLS AND SHUDDERS. ONE INSTANCE INCLUDED TURNING LEFT ONTO A HIGHWAY FROM A STOP. THE CAR BOGGED ALONG FOR ROUGHLY 3 SECONDS AND ALMOST CAUSED A COLLISION WITH AN ONCOMING SEMI. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED, THE CAR SHOULD ACCELERATE AS EXPECTED; IT SHOULD NOT SHUDDER OR REV AS IF IN NEUTRAL. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN RIGHT ONTO A FRONTAGE ROAD FROM A STOP, THE CAR SLAMMED INTO GEAR MID-TURN CAUSING A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WHEEL HOP, JERKING THE CAR TOWARDS THE CURB. ANOTHER INSTANCE WAS IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN AT A T-INTERSECTION (CROSS-TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP), THE CAR CRAWLED FORWARD AND REVVED AS IF IN NEUTRAL; NO ACCELERATION OCCURED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THIS ALMOST CAUSED A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE; THERE WAS PLENTY OF TIME FOR A FUNCTIONING VEHICLE TO PULL OUT ONTO THE ROAD SAFELY. THE LATEST OCCURENCE WAS IN A PARKING LOT. TURNING LEFT OUT OF A PARKING LOT LANE, THE TCM FAILED AND THE CAR LOST POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION.
SINCE PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN SEPT 2011, MY FOCUS HAS HAD MAJOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES THAT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE TO DEAL WITH WITH FORD TO THIS DAY. MY FOCUS WAS TAKEN IN AT LEAST 5 TIMES IN THE FIRST COUPLE YEARS FOR A FAULTY CLUTCH THAT CAUSED JOLTING AND SHUDDERING AND JEERING WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING MY CAR TO SLIP IN AND OUT OF NEUTRAL ON THE ROAD, SOMETIMES NEARLY HITTING OTHER DRIVERS. IT BECAME VERY DANGEROUS. IT TOOK AT LEAST 5 VISITS FOR FORD TO REPLACE THE FIRST CLUTCH. THEY REFUSED TO ACCEPT THAT THE PART WAS FAULTY AND DID COMPUTER "UPDATES" THAT DID NOTHING TO FIX THE ISSUE. OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, MY CAR HAS BEEN BROUGHT IN ABOUT A DOZEN MORE TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND HAS HAD A TOTAL OF 5 CLUTCH REPLACEMENTS IN 6 YEARS, AND MY CAR JUST BROKE DOWN AGAIN YESTERDAY, JUST BARELY OVER 100K MILES, WITH FORD REFUSING TO WARRANTY MY TRANSMISSION. A MESSAGE APPEARED, "TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION SERVICE NOW" AND MY CAR COMPLETELY DIED. FORD NEVER WANTS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THESE TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND HAVE HASSLED ME EVERY TIME IN THE LAST 6 YEARS OVER THESE ISSUES. IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE TO KEEP DRIVING THIS CAR NEVER KNOWING WHEN THE CLUTCH IS GOING TO GIVE OUT AND CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. I HAVE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS FOR THESE CLAIMS AND CAN REQUEST ALL SERVICE RECORDS FROM FORD IF NECESSARY. I DO NOT WANT THESE DOCUMENTS MADE PUBLIC SINCE THEY CONTAIN SENSITIVE INFORMATION.
The trunk lid is rusting/deteriorating along the rim that meets the back bumper. I just dropped it off my red Ford Focus to Scott's Auto Fixit in Webster, NY for repair. I couldn't afford the new truck lid that the dealership service department offered at the Ford Dealership in Webster. The trunk lid was inspected by my auto insurance representative in 2019 (I have photos from 2019 and today {2024}). The lid is deteriorating with pieces of the lid falling into the trunk. I'm concerned of the possible risk of the trunk deteriorating to the point that other safety components would be affected - light, latch, lock (security). I've also notice that several Ford Focus automobiles are experiencing the same issue; the trunk lids are visibly rusting/deteriorating. The rust has discolored the paint on the rear bumper; that also needs to be addressed. frustrated!
THE RPMS ON MY VEHICLE KEPT FALLING AND CAUSING MY CAR TO STALL AND EVEN 'DIE' IN TRAFFIC. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH MY EVAP SENSOR, FUEL PUMP AND GAS TANK. THE SENSOR AND GAS PUMP ARE MALFUNCTIONING AND CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND SUCKING THE PLASTIC GAS TANK UP AND INTO THE PUMP CAUSING MY CAR TO DIE WHILE IN TRAFFIC. I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY DOING 65MPH THE OTHER DAY AND THIS HAPPENED CAUSING EXTREME ANXIETY ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING REAR ENDED BY SOMEONE NOT PAYING ATTENTION. I HAVE LOOKED THIS UP AND I AM NOT THE ONLY FOCUS OWNER WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING OFF AND ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND IS STARTING TO HAPPEN MOREVOFTEN AND GETTING MORE SEVERE.
"PURGE VALVE"-MY VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO RED MCCOMBS FORD DUE TO A P0420 CODE WHICH IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. BEFORE THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I HAD NOT HAD ANY PERFORMANCE ISSUES OR NOTICED ANY PROBLEMS WHILE DRIVING OR IDLING ON ANY TYPE OF ROAD. THE CAR HAS 79,479 MILES AND THE CONVERTER WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CONVERTER WENT OUT BECAUSE THE PURGE VALVE GOT STUCK OPEN WHICH CAUSED SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL PUMP AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE CONVERTER UNTIL I PAID $1,900 TO GET THE OTHER PROBLEMS FIXED. I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO GET THE OTHER PROBLEMS FIXED BEFORE THE FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRED, THEREFORE I WILL NEED TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $1,700 TO HAVE THE CONVERTER REPLACED ONCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR COULD CAUSE IT TO LOSE POWER AND LEAVE ME STRANDED ON THE ROAD. I AM CONCERNED THAT, OTHER THAN THE ENGINE LIGHT TURNING ON BECAUSE OF THE CONVERTER, I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR UNTIL IT COULD HAVE DIED ON ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. I HAVE HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND BY THE LOOKS OF THE COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA, THERE WILL BE MANY MORE SERIOUS PROBLEMS TO LOOK FORWARD TO. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AND FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS. I AM HOPING TO SELL IT BACK TO THEM THIS WEEKEND. I WILL NEVER BY FORD AGAIN.
