STARTED WITH HORN AND TAIL LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY NOT WORKING. THEN INTERMITTENTLY AS YOU ARE DRIVING THE CAR SHUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE! EVERYTHING LOCKS UP AND YOU ATTEMPT TO MAKE IT SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ALL DASH LIGHTS WORK BUT CAR WON'T START. FOUND SAME COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET AND YOUTUBE BUT NO RECALL. TOOK TO LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY CANNOT FIND THE ISSUE. THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE DID NOT ISSUE A CODE. I EXPLAINED IN DETAIL THE ISSUE AND ASKED FOR DOCUMENTATION OF THE ISSUE. THE PAPER THEY GAVE ME SAID RUNS ROUGH WHEN AC IS ON. I SAID THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE. THEY SAID DON'T WORRY THE TICKET IS STILL OPEN IN THE SYSTEM. I ASKED IF THEY COULD PUT A READER ON THE CAR WHILE DRIVEN TO CATCH THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE AND THEY SAID NO. SO I AM IN SAME SITUATION AS OTHER OWNERS WHERE MY SAFETY AND OTHERS ARE AT STAKE EACH TIME THIS CAR SHUTS OFF. ALSO DEALER SAID THEY H HORN WITH A SCREWDRIVER TO MAKE IT WORK FOR NOW. SO NO HORN, TAIL LIGHT AND CAR SHUTTING OFF INTERMITTENTLY ARE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS PROBLEM AND FIX IT!
POWER STEERING CUTS OUT WHILE VEHICLE IS ON. STEERING BECOMES ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. SO FAR, IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED WHILE STOPPED. CONCERNED IT COULD HAPPEN WHILE MOVING.
I STARTED THE CAR THIS MORNING AND THE STEERING WOULD NOT WORK. I CAME INSIDE THE HOUSE, LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM ON LINE AND FOUND A TERRIFIC AMOUNT OF HITS. I ALSO SAW THAT WITHOUT WARNING THE STEERING CAN STOP ALL TOGETHER CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I ALSO SAW THAT SOMETIMES YOU CAN GO BACK TO THE VEHICLE AND START IT UP AGAIN AND THE STEERING PROBLEM MAY GO AWAY. THIS IS VERY ALARMING. WHAT IF I AM DRIVING AND THE STEERING GOES OUT? THIS, OF COURSE, CAN LEAD TO INJURY OR DEATH TO THE DRIVER OR TO OTHERS INVOLVED IN A CRASH.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 FORD FOCUS OUT OF TOWN WHILE I WAS AWAY FOR WORK AND THE CLUTCH WENT WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO GO OFF THE ROAD.
WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON. THE WIPER SWITCH WAS IN THE OFF POSITION. THE WIPERS WOULD NOT STOP. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND THE WIPERS WERE STILL GOING. I HAD TO REMOVE THE FUSE TO GET THEM TO STOP. WHEN I PUT THE FUSE BACK IN, THE WIPERS WOULDN'T COME ON. I DROVE ABOUT 5 MILES AND THE WIPERS CAME ON AGAIN AND I HAD TO STOP AND TAKE THE FUSE OUT AGAIN.
I LOST POWER STEERING WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING MY SON TO SON TO SCHOOL. YOU CAN STILL STEER THE CAR BUT BARELY AND I AM A 200LB MAINTENANCE MAN. BROUGHT IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND IT IS GOING TO COSTS 1700 TO FIX. I HAVE READ MANY OTHER 2012 FOCUS OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. VERY SURPRISED IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER A SAFETY RECALL AS IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING AND MAKES MANEUVERING THE CAR ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE.
MY CAR IS HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, AND LOSES POWER AND HAS A HARD TIME SHIFTING SOMETIMES. I GOT A RECALL NOTICE AT ONE TIME AND LOST THE PAPERWORK, AND THE FORD DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO LOOK UP THE RECALL AND SAID I NEEDED TO HAVE THE PAPERWORK TO GET IT LOOKED AT.
POWER STEERING FAILURE, UPON STARTING CAR DASH LIGHTS WARNS OF POWER STEERING FAILURE. AT FIRST WE COULD TURN CAR OFF AND RESTART CAR AND THEN IT WOULD FUNCTION. THIS WAS LAST YEAR WHEN FALL AND WINTER CAME WE HAD NO MORE PROBLEMS, AS SUMMER CAME THIS YEAR WITH HIGH HEAT IT WOULD NOT FUNCTION AT ALL NOW.
2012 FORD FOCUS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO SAFETY HAZARD; TRANSMISSION SHIFTING OUT OF GEAR UNEXPECTEDLY. *AS *TR
WHILE STATIONARY, THE STEERING POWER ASSIST FAILURE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO PULL OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED.
I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC BECAUSE OF IT HAS BEEN NOT STARTING/HESITATING TO START WHEN IN PARK. I ALSO TRIED SWITCHING TO NEUTRAL AND ATTEMPTED TO START AND GOT NOTHING. MY MECHANIC RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND ITS COMING UP WITH A SECURITY CODE ISSUE STATING MY KEY DOES NOT READ BUT WILL START SEVERAL MINUTES AFTER ATTEMPT. THIS HAS JUST RANDOMLY STARTED HAPPENING AND I HAVE READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS IN FORD FORUMS STATING THE SAME SITUATION. ALL LIGHTS ON DASH AND RADIO COME ON BUT CAR HAS NO NOISE AND REFUSES TO START. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY BATTERY OR STARTER AND MY MECHANIC HAS CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS NEITHER. I TRIED CONTACTING THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THIS CAR AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE. THIS MAKE HAS HAD MORE ISSUES THAN I HAVE EVER HAD WITH ANY VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP BECAUSE THIS IS RIDICULOUS. MY HUSBAND HAS THE SAME VEHICLE AND HIS TRANSMISSION IS ALSO ON NATIONWIDE RECALL BACKORDER FOR THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL. THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD A WARNING FOR CONSUMERS THAT THIS WAS A TERRIBLE PRODUCTION YEAR.
VEHICLE LOOSES STEERING ASSIST WHEN BACKING UP OR MOVING FORWARD (INTERMITTENT PROBLEM). VEHICLE HAS ONLY 35,000 MILES. CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY AND LACK OF STEERING BACK UP SYSTEM. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY CHARGED US $2,000 TO REPLACE THE ELECTRIC STEERING GEAR. MANY OWNERS OF THIS MODEL/YEAR VEHICLE ARE EXPERIENCING SAME COMPLAINT AND ARE CONCERNED ABOUT POTENTIAL SAFETY AND EXPOSURE TO ACCIDENTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE POWER STEERING ABILITY SEIZED AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MESSAGE REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC (JOE MILLER MODERN GARAGE IN MANKATO, MINNESOTA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MAY 13, 2017, BUT WENT AWAY AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY AND COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF. THE WIPERS EVENTUALLY SLOWED AND STOPPED FUNCTIONING INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST AS THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 12V149000 (VISIBILITY). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
I'VE HAD MY FORD FOCUS FOR 6 MONTHS. I'VE EXPERIENCED RECALLS ON THE TRANSMISSION WHICH I HAVE FIXED. NOW MY STEERING ASSIST FAULT LIGHT IS ON AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT COMPLETELY WHILE TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE. I HAVE NOTICED THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN IN HORRIBLE ACCIDENTS. WHAT IF THIS WAS TO HAPPEN TO ME AND MY CHILDREN? IT WOULDN'T JUST AFFECT OUR LIVES BUT ALSO OUR LOVED ONES. I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS OR THERE IS AN ABILITY TO GET MY MONEY BACK ON THE CAR.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH AND THE STEERING ASSISTANCE MALFUNCTION MESSAGE SUDDENLY SHOWED UP ON THE DISPLAY AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY TIGHT TO TURN. RESTARTING THE CAR DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE.
THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND WON'T TURN THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN I JUST START THE CAR. I CAN PUT MY KEY IN THE IGNITION AND ALL THE LIGHTS, RADIO, AND CHIME WORKS, BUT THE CAR WON'T START. I HAD IT CHECKED WHEN I GOT IT STARTED AND THE BATTERY WAS FINE AND THE ALTENATOR WAS FINE AND SO WAS MY STARTER. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS PLEASE HELP.
MY CAR WAS PARKED. WHEN I TRIED STARTING IT UP. THE WHEEL LOCKED AND I RECEIVED A MESSAGE THAT STATED "STEERING ASSIST FAULT, SERVICE REQUIRED". I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR MANY TIME AND THE MESSAGE CONTINUED TO APPEAR,
HELP ME UNDERSTAND WHY THE NHTSA HAS NOT FORCED A RECALL CONCERNING THE MAJOR ISSUES FOUND WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS? HAS FORD PULLED THE WOOL OVER THE EYES OF NHTSA JUST AS THEY HAVE WITH THEIR VERY OWN CUSTOMERS? MY CAR SITS AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IM NOT CONVINCED THE MECHANIC HAS DETERMINED THE TRUE CAUSE OF THE TRANS TO CAUSE A LOSS OF POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 20-25MPH THE TRANS SEEMED TO SLIP INTO NEUTRAL BUT WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PED THE ENGINE WOULDNT REV NOR WOULD THE CAR GO ANY FASTER. I WAS 1/4 MILE FROM MY HOUSE & TURNED AROUND TO GO BACK, I SHUT THE CAR OFF & BACK ON, THE ENGINE REVVED & BACK TO IDLE, I PUT IN REVERSE & IT HESITATED TO MOVE BUT DID, I PUT IN FORWARD & IT REVVED UP 2X AGAIN WHILE I TO COAST TO MY DRIVEWAY. MY CAR HAS SHUDDERED AT TIMES & SEEMED TO HESITATE TO KNOW WHAT GEAR TO GO INTO ALTHOUGH I FIGURED IT TO BE NORMAL SINCE I OWNED THE CAR SINCE 9/2016 & THE MORE I DROVE THE MORE I ASSUMED IT WAS A TYPE OF TRANS THAT ACTED LIKE A MANUAL WHEN IT CHANGED GEARS, I HAVE ONLY RECENTLY LEARNED OF ALL THE MAJOR PROBLEMS WHILE DOING RESEARCH. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AFTER READING JUST A SMALL AMOUNT OF CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON WHEN I EXPERIENCED THE LOSS OF POWER AND CODES P2831 P2832 & P287B WERE PRESENT. THE MECHANIC SAID THE "MECHANICAL MECHANISM" IS "STUCK" KEEPING THE CLUTCH APPLIED. HE MADE THIS ASSUMPTION WITH THE TRANSMISSION STILL INSTALLED & NOT CHECKING THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS; HE MUST BE PRETTY DARN GOOD TO DO ALL THAT! HE CHECKED THE TCM PER NOTIFICATION 14M02 WHICH SURPRISING PASSED. TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE NOTIFICATION 14M01 WAS NOT CHECKED WHICH WOULD REQUIRE THE TRANS BE REMOVED FROM WHAT I READ. TSB 15-0121 ALSO CALLS OUT A POTENTIAL CAUSE. THEY WANT ME TO PAY $2500 TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH JUST TO BE ABLE TO FURTHER DIAGNOSE POTENTIAL PROBLEMS WITHOUT FULLY DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. 78000MI
DRIVING (STRAIGHT) ON A HIGHWAY GOING 55. CAR SLOWS DOWN TO CRAWL, MAKING GRINDING NOISE, ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS "PARKING AID MALFUNCTION". WAS ABLE TO PULL TO SIDE OF ROAD, PUT IN PARK AND CUT OFF IGNITION. WOULD NOT RESTART. DASHBOARD STILL SAYS CAR IS IN DRIVE.
ON LONG TRIPS (OVER 160 MILES) WITH CONSISTENTLY HIGH SPEEDS, THE ENGINE TORQUE AND TACHOMETER GAUGE LEVEL RISES/WHINES, INDICATING A SHIFT SHOULD BE MADE IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, BUT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION LAGS BEHIND, CAUSING THE HOVER/FORWARD STALL DUE TO ENGINE TORQUE, MUCH LIKE WHEN YOU INCREASE THE TORQUE CAUSING THE ENGINE TO "ROAR" BEFORE SHIFTING IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS WHILE ACCELERATING ON HIGHER SPEED ROADS AND HIGHWAYS AT HIGHER SPEEDS, USUALLY 40-70 MPH RANGE AND MOSTLY WHEN ON A LONG TRIP W/O STOPPING, EXCEPT FOR GAS. CAR IS ALWAYS IN MOTION AND THERE IS NO CHANGE IN ENGINE TEMP AND NO WARNING LIGHTS LIT.THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED MANY TIMES IN THE PAST 18 MONTHS. THE DATE INDICATED WAS THE MOST RECENT DATE.
CAR STOPPED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET. LOW FUEL LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. FUEL GAUGE WAS SHOWING CLOSE TO EMPTY BUT NOT ALL THE WAY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON. WHEN STARTED AT GARAGE THE LOW FUEL LIGHT CAME ON, BUT WOULD NOT STAY RUNNING AFTER MULTIPLE TRIES. I THINK, AND THE MECHANIC AGREED, THAT THE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. I FEEL UNSAFE NOW WHEN DRIVING FOR EXTENDED LENGTHS OF TIME, AND AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN WHEN ON A HIGHWAY AT HIGHER SPEEDS. IF THE VEHICLE STOPS IN TRAFFIC THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR FATALITY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE "TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION SERVICE NOW" INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ACADEMY FORD (13401 BALTIMORE AVE, LAUREL, MD 20707) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AND TRANSMISSION CLUTCH FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MODULE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE CLUTCH WAS NOT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE ISSUE WAS "IN THE PROCESS OF BEING RECALLED" AND TRANSFERRED THE CONTACT DIRECTLY TO NHTSA FOR A "STATUS UPDATE." THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,500.
TRANSMISSION BUCKING, POPPING AND REVVING HIGH WITH NO ACCELERATION WHILE IN MOTION IN 1ST GEAR CHANGING TO 2ND GEAR AND 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. THE VEHICLE HAD TOTAL LOSS OF ACCELERATION WHILE TURNING ONTO A ROAD BY MY HOUSE FROM A FULL STOP. THE SPORT MODE ON THE GEARSHIFT LEVER DOES NOT LIGHT UP AND IS NOT ABLE TO USE. TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ARE MOSTLY IN LOWER GEARS. THIS VEHICLE ALWAYS HAD SMALL TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS BUT THIS HAS GONE TO A DANGEROUS POINT. I HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY FORD DEALER, TODAY IS 6/13/17. THEY CANNOT GET ME IN TO SEE THE VEHICLE UNTIL 6/19/17. WHILE THE AC IS ON, THE VEHICLE ALWAYS HAD ISSUES ACCELERATING ON AN SLIGHT INCLINE. I JUST ALWAYS ASSUMED THAT IT WAS JUST THE WAY THE VEHICLE WAS BUT IT APPEARS THAT IT WAS JUST A SYMPTOM OF AN ISSUE THAT HAS SHOWN UP LATER ON.
TRANSMISSION CONTINUALLY FALTERS AND SENSORS GIVE OUT. LITERALLY GAVE OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. LUCKILY THERE WASN'T ANY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THE TRANSMISSION HAS FALTERED, BUT IT WAS THE MOST SEVERE INSTANCE. OTHER INSTANCES OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ALSO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC (PRECISION AUTO CARE IN CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA) WHO DIAGNOSED THAT MULTIPLE CODES LEADING TO THE FUEL SYSTEM READER WERE INACCURATE; THEREFORE, THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF FUEL. THE FUEL TANK NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED AND FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MIDWAY FORD DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK COLLAPSED AND THE FUEL VALVE WAS DAMAGED. THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: CAS12489026. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
WITH LESS THAN 21K MILES ON THE CAR AND THE ALTERNATOR, IT SEIZED UP, TORE THE PULLEY OFF, AND SHREDDED THE BELT AND LEFT MY CAR DEAD. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND HEARD A METALLIC GRINDING AND JINGLING SOUND. HAD I NOT BEEN ABLE TO EXIT WHEN I DID, I MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SAFELY NAVIGATE MY CAR TO A STOP. FORD IS REFUSING TO ADMIT THAT IT WAS THEIR MANUFACTURING THAT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. THEY DID NOT COVER IT UNDER ANY OF THE REMAINING WARRANTIES ON THE CAR. MY DAD WORKS IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY AND HE WAS TELLING ME THAT THEY TEST THE ALTERNATORS THAT HIS COMPANY MAKES TO LAST 150K MILES AND THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED THE WAY THAT IT DID.

INACCURATE FUEL GAUGE INDICATION AND INACCURATE DISTANCE TO EMPTY. ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE EVAP EMMISION PURGE VALVE, FUEL PUMP, AND FUEL TANK, AND CANISTER. HAD TO REPLACE ALL PARTS AGAIN 4 MONTHS LATER WHEN MY CAR STOP RUNNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THIS HAPPENED TO ME 3 TIMES.
FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS THIS CAR STOPS STEERING AND HAS AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT READS STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED. THE CAR STOPS STEERING WHEN IN MOTION AND WHEN PARKED AND FIRST STARTED. THE STEERING WHEEL IS CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN WHEN THIS OCCURS AND IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS HAPPENS IN MOTION. I HAVE HAD IT IN FOR SERVICE AT LEAST 6 TIMES REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND FORD WILL MOTOR CORP IS CLOSING MY CASE WITH NO RESOLVE. THIS IS RECALLED ON THE FUSION FROM THE SAME YEAR FOR THE SAME MALFUNCTION. I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. IT NOW OCCURS DAILY. I ALSO STILL HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THAT DOES NOT COVER THIS ISSUE APPARENTLY.
CAR GIVES A CODE THAT STEERING ASSIST HAS FAILED WHEN STARTING CAR. SOMETIMES WOULD RESET IF KEY TURNED OFF AND TURNED BACK ON. THIS STARTED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY BUT FORD'S TECHS CLAIMED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM, DESPITE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ON THE PROBLEM. CAR WILL START, BUT WON'T STEER. PROBLEM WAS BROUGHT TO ATTENTION OF FORD DEALER WHEN CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THEY HAVE IGNORED THE PROBLEM.
MY VEHICLE'S FUEL TANK IS COMPRESSING DUE TO A FAULTY VACUUM PURGE VALVE REQUIRING A NEW TANK, FUEL PUMP AND PURGE VALVE. THIS ISSUE HAS CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO STALL IN FREEWAY TRAFFIC AND IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THE FUEL TANK IS ALSO NOT ACCURATELY READING INCORRECTLY, YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO TELL HOW MUCH GAS YOU HAVE WITH THH INDICATOR. . FORD FOCUS- 2012, 58K MILES
THE CAR WOULD GET SHAKY AT TIMES WHEN DRIVING, AND THEN YESTERDAY, IT WOULDN'T GO INTO REVERSE. LATER, I TRIED TO START IT, AND IT WOULDN'T START. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND RECONNECTED IT, THEN THE CAR STARTED AND WENT INTO REVERSE. LATER, IT WENT INTO REVERSE, AND THEN IT WOULDN'T GO INTO DRIVE. IT HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDS A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED.

THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE, WHEN THIS HAPPENS THIS IS A SUDDEN COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER VEHICLE. THIS OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK STATIONARY AND ALSO WHILE IN DRIVE MOVING. IT OCCASIONALLY WOULD HAPPEN. AFTER THE THIRD OR FOURTH TIME, THE MALFUNCTION LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND POWER STEERING LOSS REMAINED DESPITE TRY TO RESTART CAR, THIS FINAL TIME IT DID NOT SHUT OFF PROBLEM. TOOK VEHICLE INTO FORD WHERE I HAD TO PAY FOR A COMPLETE NEW STEERING RACK AND CBM. COST $2,000 AT FORD DEALERSHIP.
ELECTICAL POWER STERRING MALFUNCTION. POWER STERRING FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. WAS ABLE TO STOP. BUT COULDN'T TURN STERRING WHEEL.
SEVERAL MORNINGS IN A ROW MY WIFE SAID SHE EXPERIENCED HAVING TROUBLE PLACING THE SEAT BELT INTO THE CONNECTOR. IT HAD GOT TO THE POINT WHERE SHE WOULD TRY TO FORCE IT IN THERE SOMETIMES IT WOULD CONNECT SOMETIMES IT WOULDN'T. NOW IT DOESN'T CONNECT AT ALL.

I WAS MADE AWARE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, ACKNOWLEDGED BY FORD, BUT WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP, MY ISSUE WAS CAUSED BY OIL FROM REAL SEAL LEAKING ONTO TRANS. MECHANIC SAID TRANSMISSION KNOCK MAY HAVE CAUSED OIL LEAK BUT IT IS NOT COVERED.
CAR WILL SPORADICALLY AND INTERMITTENTLY NOT TURN OVER WHEN KEY IS IN IGNITION. BATTERY IS NOT FAULTY. ALTERNATOR IS NOT FAULTY. WIRING IS NOT FAULTY. ALL HAVE BEEN TESTED. FROM WHAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR'S INTERNAL SOFTWARE (OR MORE SPECIFICALLY TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IS IN PARK THEREBY PREVENTING THE VEHICLE FROM STARTING. THIS SOMETIMES PREVENTS THE VEHICLE FROM BEING STARTED FROM ANYWHERE OF 30 SECONDS TO AT AN EXTREME INSTANCE NEARLY 45 MINUTES. OFTEN TIMES, THE ONLY WAY TO START THE CAR IN THESE INSTANCES IS TO KEEP THE FOOT ON THE BRAKE, MOVE THE SHIFTER INTO NEUTRAL AND WAIT (FOR PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED TIMES) UNTIL THE DASHBOARD INDICATES THAT IT RECOGNIZES THE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL. (WHEN THIS OCCURS, WHEN SHIFTER IS FIRST MOVED TO NEUTRAL NO GEAR APPEARS TO BE HIGHLIGHTED IN DASHBOARD)

2012 FORD FOCUS FUEL GAUGE READING ERRATIC, SPECIFICALLY INDICATING FULL WHEN NEAR EMPTY. THIS PROBLEM IS ACCOMPANIED BY EMISSIONS CHECK ENGINE CODES P144A. THIS PROBLEM IS IDENTIFIED IN TSBS AS EARLY AS 2013 AS AN "EVAP PURGE VALVE" FAILURE WHICH CAUSES FUEL TANK COLLAPSE. FALSE FUEL LEVEL INDICATION MAY CAUSE DRIVERS TO RUN OUT OF FUEL AND BECOME STRANDED. DEALER ADVISES FUEL TANK HAS COLLAPSED AND REQUIRES FUEL PUMP, FUEL TANK, CANISTER AND SOLENOID REPLACEMENT IMMEDIATELY DUE TO RISK OF CAR STALLING OUT AND/OR RUNNING OUT OF GAS UNEXPECTEDLY. WHEN FUEL TANK IS FULL JUST AFTER FILLING UP, CAR REQUIRES MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO START. MILEAGE AT FAILURE: 83000. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2012 FORD FOCUS. FORD RECOGNIZES THE FAILURE OF THE PLASTIC GAS TANK SUCH THAT THE REPLACEMENT GAS TANK IS A DIFFERENT GAS TANK WHICH IS NOT PLASTIC, THEREFORE PASSING ON THE VERY EXPENSIVE COST ($2,000) OF THE DESIGN MISTAKE TO THE CUSTOMER. THIS IS NOT A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR COST OF OWNERSHIP PROBLEM! THIS WAS RECALLED ON THE FORD FUSION, IT SHOULD BE RECALLED ON THE FOCUS AS WELL.

THE LUG NUTS ARE SWELLING AND SEPARATING. BECAUSE THEY ARE TWO PART CHROME COVERED. FOR THIS CAR, THE LUGNUTS ARE CUSTOM. IF THEY ARE PLACED BY STANDARD LUG NUTS, THEN THE WHEEL COVER CANNOT STAY ON. THE TWO PART CHROME LUG NUT IS NOT CARRIED AS A STOCK ITEM IN A DEALERSHIP. TIRES CANNOT BE REMOVED BY STANDARD LUG WRENCH, BECAUSE THE LUGNUT IS NOT A STANDARD SIZE. THE LUG NUT MUST BE CUT OFF. THEREFORE IF A TIRE BECOMES FLAT ON THE ROAD, IT MUST BE TOWED INTO A DEALERSHIP AND NOT FIXED AT ANY OTHER PLACE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD TAKE OVER A WEEK TO GET A LUG NUT IN WITH A GREATLY INCREASED PRICE OF OVER $20 INSTEAD OF A STANDARD LUG NUT COST OF $4.
