TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V340000 (STEERING) AND 17V024000 (AIR BAGS). THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A STEERING FAILURE WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, IN WHICH THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE 'TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING' MESSAGE DISPLAYED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PROPERLY ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FORD OF OCALA (2816 NW PINE AVE, OCALA, FL) AND THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED, BUT EVENTUALLY RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TRANSMISSION STARTED TO JUDDER AND SLIP REALLY BAD CAUSING CAR TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS BOUNCING. EVENTUALLY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. THIS LED TO REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. I HAD PREVIOUSLY GONE TO THE DEALER TO ADDRESS MY CONCERNS AND THEY SAID THEY FOUND A LEAK AND THAT SOME OF THE THINGS I WAS EXPERIENCING WERE NORMAL. AFTER THIS FIRST REPLACEMENT, A FEW MONTHS LATER MY TRANSMISSION STARTING ACTING REALLY BAD AND WAS ACCELERATING IMPROPERLY. IT HAD TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. NOW, I AM ON MY THIRD TRANSMISSION AND IT IS SHOWING THE SAME SIGNS AS MY FIRST ONE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE JERKED WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS HOWEVER, THE MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHILE CAR WAS IN MOTION TURNING ONTO A BUSY STREET, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR FLEW OPEN. AFTER FURTHER EXAMINATION THE DOOR IS NOT LATCHING.
DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR AND FRONT PASSENGER DOOR HAD TO BE REPLACED, STOP WORKING FOR NO KNOW REASON
OUR VIN NUMBER IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE CURRENT RECALL. WHILE DRIVING OUR REAR PASSENGER DOOR POPPED OPEN AND WILL NOT STAY CLOSED. WE HAD TO BUNGEE CORD CLOSED IT FOR A MONTH AND A HALF UNTIL THE BACK ORDERED PART CAME IN. NOW WE ARE PAINT $800 TO HAVE IT FIXED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
WITHOUT WARNING THE DRIVER DOOR FLEW OPEN AS CAR WAS PULLING ONTO FEEDER STREET AND WOULD NO LONGER LATCH AFTER THIS EVENT. WHEN RESEARCHING BLOGS FOUND OTHERS WHO HAD SIMILAR EVENTS. NEARBY DEALER CONFIRMED LATCH WOULD NOT OPERATE AND WAS BROKEN. MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS HAD BEEN SEEN REPEATEDLY ON OTHER FORD MODELS BUT NOT OFTEN ON FOCUS MODEL. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT OTHER MODELS HAVE RECALLS LISTED TO REPLACE ALL DOOR LATCHES.THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE INCLUDING POSSIBLE EJECTION FROM THE VEHICLE.
THE DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE FROM ONE MINUTE TO THE NEXT THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING.
WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON THE STEERING SYSTEM FAULT MESSAGE CAME ON THE DASH AND CAUSED MY STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK UP. I COULDN'T TURN IT AT ALL. ALL I WAS ABLE TO DO WAS DRIVE STRAIGHT BUT I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT SO I HAD TO TURN. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON AFTER A COUPLE OF TRIES IT EVENTUALLY UNLOCKED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. HOWEVER THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. I DON'T WANT IT TO HAPPEN WHILE I'M IN THE CAR WITH MY TWO CHILDREN. ANOTHER ISSUE THAT HAPPENS IS WHEN I PUMP GAS IN THE CAR IT SEEMS TO STALLS ONCE I DRIVE LIKE IT WANTS TO SHUT OFF BUT IT DOESN'T.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN MY STREET I TAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN AND MY DOOR FLIES OPEN AND I ATTEMPT TO CATCH IT FROM SLAMMING CLOSED BUT THE FORCE WAS TOO GREAT AND THE DOOR PUSHED MY ARM BACK TOWARDS MY BODY. THE DOOR HIT THE CAR AND BOUNCED INSTEAD OF LATCHING ON. I PULLED OVER AND IT SAID DOOR AJAR AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH! THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY SON AND I, AND FORD SAYS IT IS NOT COVERED SO IT IS COSTING ME $529! THIS KIND OF SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD BE COVERED MUCH LIKE THE FORD FIESTA AND FUSION!
DRIVER SIDE DOOR SWUNG OPEN AMIDST DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET
LATCH OF REAR DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT LATCHED. IT WAS REPAIRED AND WITHIN 2 WEEKS THE DRIVER'S DOOR WILL NOT STAY LATCHED. ACCORDING TO WHAT I HAVE READ, FORD IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR OTHER MODELS, BUT WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE FOCUS
DOOR LATCH STOPPED WORKING, DOOR NO LONGER CLOSES, HAD TO FIND BUNGIE CORD TO TIE THE DOOR SHUT SO I COULD DRIVE HOME. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN I NOTICED THE PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR INDEPENDENTLY OPENED. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR SEVERAL TIMES, BUT IT FAILED TO LATCH. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE, BUT HAD TO HOLD THE DOOR SHUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
WHILE DRIVING, THE REAR DRIVER DOOR OPENED UP ON IT'S OWN. PULLED OVER TO CLOSE BUT IT WON'T STAY SHUT. HAD TO TIE IT CLOSED WITH A BUNGEE CORD. VERY DANGEROUS. I CALLED MY DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A LOCK RECALL FOR A FORD FUSION BUT NOT THE FOCUS. IT IS THE SAME LOCK! THEY WANT $600 TO FIX IT.

MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR SWUNG OPEN WHILE DRIVEING HOME, LUCKILY I WASN'T ON THE FREEWAY JUST SURFACE STREETS AND NOT TOO FAR FROM HOME, THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I GOT HOME I CHECKED TO SEE IF MAYBE IT WAS STUCK IN THE CLOSED POSITION, IT WAS NOT, I CLOSED THE LATCH AND ATTEPMTED TO SEE IF IT WOULD HOLD AND A SIMPLE PULL WOULD OPEN IT.
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR DOES NOT LATCH. I NOTICED IT BEFORE DRIVING SO I HELD ONTO THE DOOR SO IT WOULDN'T FLY OPEN.
WE CAME OUT OF RESTAURANT SHUT DRIVER. DOOR AND WOULD NOT LATCH HAD TO DRIVE HOME TRYING TO HOLD SHUT, WE WERE IN PARKING LOT.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE BACK DOOR LATCH FAIL TO CLOSE THE DOOR. FROM THERE ON THE DOOR DO NOT CLOSE ANYMORE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE NOT ONLY FOR OUR CHILDRENS BUT FOR ANY PASSENGER IN THIS CAR.
2012 FORD FOCUS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT SWITCH TO BRIGHT. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE HEADLIGHTS REMAINED ON DIM AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO SWITCH THEM OFF AND THEY WOULD COME ON, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER REPEATEDLY FOR THE DEFECT. ON THE LAST OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED NORMALLY FOR A FEW DAYS, BUT RETURNED TO ITS ORIGINAL PROBLEM WITHIN A FEW DAYS. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WERE TWO INCIDENTS, WHERE THE HEADLIGHTS SIMPLY CEASED TO WORK WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. *JB
SUNROOF EXPLODED. JUST DRIVING ALONG A CITY STREET AT APPROX. 45 MPH AND A LOUD BANG SOUNDED. ALL MY WINDOWS ARE CLOSED, AC IS ON 2, AND SUDDENLY I HEAR WIND. I CRACK THE DIVIDER BACK A BIT, AND I SEE THE HOLE AND SHATTERED GLASS. LITERALLY HAPPENED TO ME WITH NO WARNING, AT 8:00 PM TODAY (JUNE 23, 2016), SO NO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. DRIVING IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TOMORROW TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. IS THIS A RECURRING ISSUE?
THE LATCH ON THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR QUIT LATCHING AND THE DOOR WON'T SHUT. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS AND ARTICLES ONLINE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE WHO OWN THE SAME VEHICLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING THE DOWN THE ROAD OR PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT AND THE DOOR JUST UNLATCHING AND OPENING ALL OF A SUDDEN AND NO LONGER CLOSING. LUCKILY, MINE HAPPENED TO STOP LATCHING WHILE I WAS PARKED AND PUTTING SOMETHING INTO THE BACKSEAT. I HAVE OWNED MY CAR FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AND IT IS ONLY A 2012 MODEL AND I HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES WITH IT, SUCH AS THE RADIO SYSTEM AND I HAVE HAD TO HAVE AN UPDATE INSTALLED TO THE TRANSMISSION. I THINK THAT IT ISN'T RIGHT FOR A CARD DOOR ON A 2012 CAR TO STOP LATCHING ALL OF A SUDDEN AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WHILE THEIR CAR IS IN MOTION. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE 2012 FORD FOCUS.
THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT LATCH PROPERLY, I HAVE TO RESTRAIN THE DOOR WITH A SEAT BELT IN ORDER FOR THE DOOR TO NOT OPEN WHILE DRIVING, THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALL ON THIS MODEL FOR FORD FOCUS BUT THERE IS ON OTHER FORD VEHICLES FOR THE SAME ISSUE, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD DOOR LATCH ISSUES, THE FIRST WAS JUST UNDER A YEAR PRIOR FOR THE DRIVER DOOR, WHICH OPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, THE LATCH AT THAT TIME WAS COVERED UNDER THE VEHICLES EXTENDED WARRANT BUT TOOK OVER A MONTH TO REPAIR AT THE DEALER, I DO NOT HAVE ANY POLICE REPORTS, BUT WHEN THE SECOND LATCH FAILED I DID FILE A COMPLAINT WITH FORDS MAIN 800 NUMBER WHERE THEY TOLD ME THE PRODUCT WOULD BE REPLACED, UPON TALKING WITH THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE, THE DEALERSHIP PROMPTLY TOLD ME THAT THE REPAIRS ARE NOT COVERED AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $700 TO HAVE THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT REPAIRED. AS OF RIGHT NOW THE DOOR LATCH REMAINS UN-REPAIRED AND I HAVE A SEAT BELT TETHERED TO THE REAR DOOR TO KEEP IT FROM OPENING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.
I WAS LEAVING AFTER MEETING UP WITH A FRIEND AND AS I TURNED MY DRIVER DOOR OPENED OUT OF NO WHERE CAUSING MY TO STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE, TURNS OUT IT'S THE DOOR LATCH THAT WON'T CLOSE, SO I'M SITTING HERE STARTLED WRITING THIS AND MY CAR DOOR IS STILL NOT ABLE TO CLOSE.
STEERING WHEELS LOCKS UP AND I GET A MESSAGE STATING "STEERING ASSIST FAULT". THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 2 WEEKS THAT THE VEHICLE HAS DONE THIS WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. THE ONLY WAY I HAVE FOUND TO CLEAR IT IS TO STOP THE CAR AND RESTART.
POWER STEERING HAS INTERMITTENTLY GONE OUT ON CAR. ON JUNE 21, 2016 THE STEERING FAULT LIGHT CAME ON WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE. THE STEERING LOCKED UP, THE FAULT LIGHT APPEARED AND STATED SERVICE WAS REQUIRED. DEALERSHIP SAYS COMPUTER RECORDED DEFAULT MESSAGE BUT FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL NOT AUTHORIZE REPAIRS UNLESS THE STEERING LOCKS UP, LIGHT AND DEFAULT MESSAGE APPEARS WHILE IN THE DEALERSHIP'S POSSESSION. WE HAVE CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE ANY ACTION. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT AND RECEIVED A CASE NUMBER -CAS9882100- AS OF JUNE 22, 2016.
DASHBOARD LIGHT INDICATES PROBLEM WITH PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. COMPANY DIAGNOSTIC INDICATES THAT A FAULTY SENSOR IN SEAT BUCKLE WILL PREVENT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG FROM DEPLOYING UPON IMPACT. CAR BLOGS INDICATE THIS HAS BEEN A SAFETY CONCERN IN FORD CARS SINCE 2003, YET FORD REFUSES TO ADDRESS THIS LIFE-THREATENING DEFECT.

MY DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR WILL NOT LATCH LIGHT AND DINGER COMES ON THE DOOR WILL SHUT BUT WON'T LATCH L. YOU CAN PULL DOOR RIGHT OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THIS HAPPENED I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND STOPPED AT STORE IT WAS FINE WHEN I GOT BACK IN IT WOULDN'T LATCH DROVE TO WORK HOLDING DOOR SHUT.

THE CAR DOOR IN THE BACK SEAT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF MY 2012 FORD FOCUS SE, FLUNG OPEN AS I WAS MAKING A SHARP TURN WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE INTO MY SON'S APARTMENT COMPLEX. LUCKILY MY TWO CHILDREN WHO WERE SEATED IN THE BACK SEATS WERE WEARING THEIR SEATBELTS, OR THIS COULD'VE BEEN MUCH WORSE. THE DOOR LATCH NO LONGER WANTS TO LATCH ON. THE DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE. THE DOOR AJAR SENSOR KEEPS SHOWING AND AN ANNOYING BEEPING SOUND KEEPS GOING OFF TO LET ME KNOW THAT THE BACK DRIVERS SEAT DOOR IS AJAR. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, THEREFORE LAW ENFORCEMENT WAS NOT CONTACTED OR NEEDED. WE SAFELY PULLED OVER AND ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR. AGAIN, THE DOOR WILL NOT STAY CLOSED. THE CAR IS ATTEMPTING TO LOCK THE DOOR BUT CANNOT. YOU CAN HEAR IT. ALSO THE DOOR HANDLES APPEAR TO STILL BE IN WORKING CONDITION. IT SEEMS THAT IT'S THE LATCH THAT DOES NOT CLOSE AROUND THE METAL BAR WHEN CLOSED. THERE IS NOT A CURRENT RECALL ON THE 2012 FORD FOCUS SE, BUT FROM STORIES ON THE INTERNET, I'M NOT THE FIRST TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO THIS YEAR AND MODEL. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND NEEDS TO BE THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THERE ARE TWO OR THREE OTHER FORD CARS ON RECALL FOR THE FAULTY LATCHES. THE STEERING GETS LOOSE AND TIGHT AND WHEN YOU TRY TO CORRECT FOR LANE DRIFT IT TAKES A SECOND FOR THE STEERING TO RESPOND, THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I CALLED FORD AND OF COURSE THEY WONT DO NOTHING OR HELP IN ANYWAY. CAR ONLY HAS 74,000 MILES ON IT AND OF COURSE ITS NOT COVERED.
I ENTERED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY, WHEN I WENT TO CLOSE THE DOOR THE DOOR LATCH DID NOT ENGAGE AND THE DOOR JUST BOUNCED BACK OPEN. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FOR DEALER WHO SUGGESTED THAT I TETHER THE DOOR DOWN SO THAT I COULD DRIVE IT TO THEIR LOCATION. ONCE I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT YES THERE IS A RECALL ON SOME DOOR LATCHES MY CAR DID NOT QUALIFY. THEY THEN PROCEEDED TO WRITE UP AN ESTIMATE FOR THE WORK FOR A BILL TOTALING MORE THAT $450.

FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR SUDDENLY FAILED TO STAY CLOSED. WE HAVE TO USE BUNGEE CORDS TO KEEP THE DOOR SHUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. ALSO, WHEN PARKED THE LIGHTS STAY ON DRAINING THE BATTERY. WE HAD THIS PROBLEM LAST YEAR WITH A DIFFERENT DOOR ON THE SAME CAR AND HAD TO REPLACE THE LATCH. THIS IS CLEARLY A SYSTEMATIC PROBLEM AND FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS. AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY FORD FOCUS. THIS IS ALSO GETTING VERY EXPENSIVE FOR US FIX.
455000 MILES - DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES FAILED TO SECURE/LATCH THE DOOR. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE BACKING OUT FROM PARKING SPACE, AND PRESENTED DANGEROUS CONDITIONS AS THE DOOR SWUNG OPEN IN PARKING LOT TRAFFIC. THE LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES WILL REQUIRE REPAIR AS THE DOOR CANNOT BE SECURED. THIS IS A SECOND OCCURRENCE OF FAILED DOOR LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES FOR THE VEHICLE. FIRST OCCURRENCE REPORTED ON 03/02/2016 (NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10839377) INVOLVED REAR DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER DOOR (CURRENTLY THE DOOR IS FASTENED BY RATCHET STRAPS). IT IS MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE REMAINING PASSENGER SIDE DOORS LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES FAIL.

REAR PASSENGER DOOR ON DRIVER SIDE WILL NOT LATCH IN THE CLOSED POSITION. REQUIRED DOOR TO BE SECURED WITH ROPE FROM THE INSIDE TO PREVENT DOOR FROM OPENING WHILE OPERATING VEHICLE. VEHICLE IS NOW SUSCEPTIBLE TO THEFT OF CONTENTS OR VEHICLE ITSELF SINCE DOOR WILL NOT SECURE IN A LOCKED POSITION.
WHILE DRIVING THE ELECTRIC STEERING ASSISTANCE FAULT CODE SHOWED UP. I LOST THE POWER STEERING ON THE VEHICLE. THE WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER. I WAS ABLE TO LIMP IT HOME. IF THIS MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I'M NOT SURE IF THEY COULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR. DOING A SEARCH ON THIS ISSUE I FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FILE ON THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY FORD BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED IF IT HASN'T HAPPENED ALREADY.
THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO TURN WHILE DRIVING. AFTER THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF, IT WAS STILL THE SAME. $2000 FOR REPAIR. CAME BACK FROM THE SHOP WITH A DEAD BATTERY. ANOTHER $180. MONEY I DON'T HAVE. 76,000 MILES AT FAILURE.
WHEN I APPROACHED MY VEHICLE PARKED IN A PRIVATE PARKING LOT I NOTICED THE LEFT REAR DOOR WAS AJAR. I TRIED TO SHUT IT MULTIPLE TIMES WITH NO SUCCESS. I ENDED UP USING A STRAP TO KEEP MY DOOR CLOSED, WHICH SEEMED VERY UNSAFE, AND TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST FORD SERVICE CENTER FOR REPAIRS. I WAS EVENTUALLY DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY DOOR LATCH THAT WAS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE REPLACED. UGH!
REAR DOOR LATCH FAILED. THE DOOR WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. I HAD PREVIOUSLY HAD THE LATCH ON THE FRONT DOOR REPLACED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. I REALIZED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE ON THE 2012 FORD FOCUS WHEN I CHATTED WITH ANOTHER OWNER OF A 2012 FORD FOCUS WHO WAS IS FOR THE THIRD TIME FOR A DOOR LATCH REPLACEMENT. LUCKILY, I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND MY COST WAS $100. THE COST WITHOUT A WARRANTY WOULD BE ALMOST $275. THIS SHOULD NOT COST THE OWNERS OF THESE CARS ANYTHING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THESE LATCHES FAIL WITHOUT WARNING. BOTH TIMES THAT THE LATCHES FAILED, THEY WORKED FINE THE PREVIOUS DAY
DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WHILE THE CAR WAS STATIONARY, A DEFECT IN THE ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURE OF THE DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY OCCURRED. THE DOOR WILL NO LONGER STAY CLOSED ON ITS OWN. THIS PRESENTED AN IMMEDIATE DANGER UPON LEAVING THE PARKING SPACE, AS THE DOOR SWUNG OPEN WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE SAFELY DRIVEN IN THIS CONDITION.
THE ELECTRICAL STEERING SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING IN THIS CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HEAVY FEELING, AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET WHEN THIS FIRST STARTED.

THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,064.
