BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, MY STEERING LOCKED AND "STEERING ASSIST FAILURE. SERVICE NEEDED" APPEARED THEN DISAPPEARED. I ALMOST HIT A TREE BEHIND ME. WHEN I GOT THE CAR TO THE SHOP I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING COMPOUND GEAR ASSEMBLY UNIT HAD TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD COST ME $1700. NOT ONLY IS THIS ISSUE EXPENSIVE BUT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I WAS LUCKY IT HAPPENED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND NOT ACTUALLY ON MY WAY TO OR FROM WORK WITH RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR STARTS JERKING AND SKIDDING AND SLOWING DOWN. I WAS SCARED AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO BECAUSE I HAD MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. I CALLED MY TECHNICIAN AND HE SAID THAT A CODE CAME UP ON MY CAR P087A. HE SAID THAT THE CODE HAS TO DO WITH THE TRANSMISSION, AS THE FAULT IS A COMMON FAULT WITH THIS TYPE OF TRANSMISSION THAT FORD STARTED USING IN 2001. I'M TRYING TO SEE IF THIS VEHICLE IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND IF FORD HAS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 77K MILES.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. ART HILL FORD LINCOLN (901 W LINCOLN HWY, MERRILLVILLE, IN 46410, (219) 738-5300) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK WITH GAS, THE VEHICLE STUTTERS AND FEELS LIKE IT'S JUMPING WHEN I AM AT A STOP LIGHT AND START TO GO. THE GAS GAUGE GOES UP WHILE I AM DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE RUNS OUT OF GAS RANDOMLY. I WAS PARKED AT MY HOUSE AND IT WOULDN'T CRANK WHEN I RAN OUT OF GAS THE 1ST TIME (ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO) AND THE 2ND TIME (6/6/2018), I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE VEHICLE DIED DUE TO NO GAS, YET THE GAUGE WAS NOT ON EMPTY. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT AT FORD SERVICE REPAIR SHOP AND I AM WAITING TO HEAR FROM THEM BUT THE SERVICE REPAIRMAN SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, THAT HE HAD THE SAME VEHICLE IN THE WEEK BEFORE WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. LAST FRIDAY, I HAD A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WITH A FORD DEALERSHIP TELL ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT OCCURS IN THIS VEHICLE. OBVIOUSLY RUNNING OUT OF GAS RANDOMLY IS VERY DANGEROUS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS IMMEDIATELY TO SAVE LIVES. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
MY 2013 FORD FOCUS STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN LOCKING UP. I WAS DRIVING 75 ON A HIGHWAY AND MY WHEEL LOCKED UP. I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR, SPINNING SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE LANDING IN A DITCH WITH MY 7 YEAR OLD IN THE BACKSEAT. WE WERE NOT HURT THANKFULLY, BUT IT HAS CAUSED SOME EMOTIONAL TRAUMA FOR MY SON WHO HAD TO RECEIVE COUNSELING. MY CAR WAS CHECKED BY PROFESSIONALS THROUGH FORD COLLISION CENER. I HAD TO GET NEW TIRES AND AN ALIGNMENT, ABOUT $1000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. SINCE NO ONE COULD FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY STEERING I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS A FREAK ACCIDENT. MY STEERING WHEEL HAS LOCKED UP SEVERAL TIMES WHEN PUTTING IT IN REVERSE. IT THEN LOCKED UP COMPLETELY WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN THAT ALMOST ENDED IN ANOTHER WRECK. IT IS THE STEERING MOTOR AND WILL COST ME $1800 TO FIX. I HAVE FILED A CLAIM WITH FORD AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS STEERING DEFECT. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH, THE STEERING MOTOR HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH FORD'S FROM 2010-2014, WITH DOCUMENTED CASUALTIES DUE TO THE STEERING LOCKING UP. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED ANY LONGER. RECALL THE STEERING MOTORS NOW, TAKE ACTION. I CAN'T EVEN TRADE THIS CAR IN FOR ANOTHER BECAUSE THE PRICE OF THE VEHICLE DETERIORATES WITH EVERY RECALL, INCLUDING THE RECALL OF THEIR FAULTY TRANSMISSION ISSUES. GET THESE CARS OFF THE ROADS, THEY ARE A HAZARD!
I BOUGHT MY FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK SE STARTING AT 24K MILES. AT AROUND 50K I BEGAN HAVING TRANSMISSION TROUBLES. THE STUTTERING, WHILE ACCELERATING OR COMING TO A STOP, WAS (AND STILL IS) HORRIBLE. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE IN ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS TO GET THE TRANSMISSION 'FIXED', TO NO AVAIL. I'M STILL DEALING WITH THESE PROBLEMS 80K MILES LATER. THE FIRST TWO WINTERS THAT I HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE MY DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT ENGAGE, IN DRY, 40 DEGREE TEMPERATURES. SO I WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE AND HOLD MY DOOR CLOSED UNTIL THE CAR HEATED UP AND THE LOCKS ENGAGED. I TRIED WD-40 AND SPRAYS MEANT SPECIFICALLY TO UNFREEZE LOCKS. NEITHER WORKED. AND THE LOCKS WOULD OCCASIONALLY DISENGAGE WHILE DRIVING MY MORNING COMMUTE ON THE HIGHWAY. NO RECALL UNTIL TWO YEARS LATER, AFTER COMPLAINING COUNTLESS TIMES. BUT BACK TO THE TRANSMISSION, I WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER A LONG DAY AT WORK AND ENDED UP STUCK IN CINCINNATI, OH. A MESSAGE POPPED UP ON MY DASH READING 'TRANSMISSION FAULT' ADVISING ME TO TAKE MY CAR TO A DEALER. TURNING OFF THE ENGINE DIDN'T HELP, AND I COULDN'T DRIVE OVER 20 MILES PER HOUR BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT OVER 1ST OR 2ND GEAR. LUCKILY I'M AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER AND WAS ABLE TO DODGE MULTIPLE CARS THAT ALMOST SLAMMED INTO ME ON THE STREET, DUE TO MY SUDDEN BRAKING. WHEN CONTACTING FORD IT TOOK THEM 5 HOURS OF GOING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN DEALERS TO FINALLY SEND ME A TOW TRUCK. I GET THE CAR BACK, SAME PROBLEMS. OVER AND OVER. A MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM (WHICH IT'S BECOMING EVER MORE CLEAR THAT THEY STILL DON'T, NOR WILL THEY EVER). FORD'S COMPENSATION FOR THIS PROBLEM WAS A TERRIBLE DEAL. OFFERING A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION WITH THE EXACT SAME TRANS THAT GAVE ME PROBLEMS I'M THE FIRST PLACE. I'M GLAD TO SEE THE GOVERNMENT IS GETTING INVOLVED AND HOPE TO SEE RESOLVE SOON.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES, THERE WAS A DRASTIC REDUCTION IN SPEED, AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INTERMITTENTLY. ON OCTOBER 22, 2018, NETS CAMPAIGN NUMBER: (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) WAS ISSUED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT HAD NOT PROVIDED ANY SPECIFIC GUIDELINES TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. STEVENS JERSEY CITY FORD (740 NJ-440, JERSEY CITY, NJ 07305, (201) 432-7272) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY WARRANTIES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
STARTING FEBRUARY 2018 THE CAR WAS JERKING AND IT HAD TURNED OFF ON ME WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY 3 TIMES. I HAVE CHANGED OXYGEN SENSORS AND PURGE VALVE (I HAVE RECEIPTS) AND IT HAD INITIALLY HELPED. AS OF JUNE 2, 2018, IT IS JERKING AND TURNING OFF AGAIN AND THROWING CHECK ENGINE CODE P0805 AND P080A. THE SYSTEM FROM CAR NOTIFIED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS HOT AND NEEDED TO BE TURNED OFF. FROM JUNE 2, 2018 I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR.

ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V735000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FAIRLANE FORD (313-846-5000, LOCATED AT 14585 MICHIGAN AVE, DEARBORN, MI 48126) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS KEPT AT THE DEALER'S FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. ONE WEEK LATER, THE CONTACT WAS CALLED AND INFORMED TO RETURN THE LOANER VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO ALWAYS MAINTAIN A HALF TANK OF FUEL WHILE DRIVING UNTIL THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THE CONTACT PREVIOUSLY CALLED J.C. LEWIS FORD (9505 ABERCORN ST, SAVANNAH, GA 31406, (912) 210-5676) BECAUSE THE FAILURE INITIALLY BEAN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY PROVIDED THE SAME INFORMATION AS THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
CAR IS BACK IN THE SHOP AGAIN FOR SHUDDER BAD AT TAKE OFF TURNING INTO TRAFFIC. FORD IS TELLING ME SHUDDER AND JERKING IS WITHIN NORMAL AND ACCEPTABLE RANGE. I DON'T KNOW HOW THIS SHUDDER IS ACCEPTABLE. I'VE HAD THE CLUTCHES REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE CAR IS SUPPOSE TO HAVE THE UPDATE CLUTCHES BUT HERE WE ARE AGAIN WITH ISSUES. THE CAR CLUNKED AND JERKED OUT OF GEAR GOING 65 DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT ONE POINT AND WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING LUCKILY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME AND I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP OFF THE ROAD AND GET A TOW. THIS CAR HAS HAD WAY TOO MANY TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND MAKES ME SCARED TO DRIVE YET I'M STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON THIS CAR BECAUSE I CAN'T GET OUT OF LOAN DO TO THE RESALE VALUE DROPPING DUE TO THIS TRANSMISSION. THIS CAR DOES NOT FEEL SAFE AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE SHUDDER, JERKING, AND DELAYED REACTIONS BE CONSIDERED NORMAL AND SAFE.
AUTO STOP WORKING AND SUDENLY SHIFT OFF UN HIGHWAYS WITH UNKNOWN RASONS OR CAUSE. THIS IS EXPRIENCE AT LEASE 2 OR 3 TIMES DAILY. SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS COMES ON. THEN YOU NEED TO STOP AND RESTART. THIS IS DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS IN HIGHWAYS.
FORD FOCUS 2013 STEERING ASSIST FAULT. AS I WAS DRIVING MY POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. I WAS VERY RATTLED AS THE CAR SUDDENLY JERKED TO THE RIGHT AND I COULD NOT STEER IT BACK TO NORMAL. I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON TO MAKE IT WORK AGAIN. NOW WHENEVER I TURN MY CAR ON IT COMES UP WITH A WARNING THAT STATES STEERING ASSIST FAULT. ALSO MY POWER STEERING IS NOT WORKING ANYMORE. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE OR IN AN INTERSECTION, ETC..
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR STARTED ON FIRE 39MINS AFTER I STARTED THE VEHICLE . THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND I HAD AN ENGINE FIRE
I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW IN 2013. ON 5/16/2018 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD DURING RUSH HOUR IN THE LEFT LANE OF TRAFFIC WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE I GET A NOTIFICATION THAT SAYS "ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW". THEN THE ENGINE CUTS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD. THE PERSON BEHIND ME ALMOST SMASHED INTO ME BUT SWERVED AT THE LAST SECOND AND CUT A CAR OFF IN THE LANE NEXT TO ME. I TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON, BUT IT WOULDN'T START. IT WAS SOOO DANGEROUS TO BE STUCK ON THE ROAD NOT ABLE TO DO ANYTHING. I HAD TO CALL THE POLICE TO SET UP FLARES BEHIND ME. I HAVE BEEN READING BLOGS AND I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THIS HAS HAPPENED TO.
THE CAR IS STALLING AND HAS A ROUGH IDLE. WITHIN 2 WEEKS MY CAR STALLED AND THEN SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND WOULD NOT RESTART OR STAY ON ONCE I GOT IT PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS LUCKY THAT THERE WAS NO ONE DIRECTLY BEHIND ME ON THE ROAD OTHERWISE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A REALLY BAD DISASTER. GAS MILEAGE SAID I HAD OVER 100 MILES TO EMPTY. PAID TO GET IT TOWED TWICE AND WHEN TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC HE TURNED IT ON (AFTER 2 HOURS) AND THE CAR SHOWED EMPTY 0 MILES/FUEL. HE PUT A FEW DOLLARS IN GAS AND IT RAN JUST FINE. SINCE THEN I CANNOT TRUST THE FUEL READING OF MILEAGE. FORD DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL ON FUEL SYSTEM BUT THEY ARE HAPPY TO DO A DIAGNOSIS FOR OVER $100 AND THEN THEY CAN TELL ME WHATS WRONG WITH IT. NOT AN AFFORDABLE SOLUTION AT THIS TIME OTHER THAN TO PUT GAS IN IT AFTER I DRIVE EVERY 50 MILES. SOUTH BOSTON, VA

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS CRUSHED DUE TO A COLLAPSED FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
MY CAR SMELL LIKE GAS AND AFTER IPUT GAS IN THE CAR IM UNABLE TO START IT. MY FRONT DOOR ITS CLOSING AS IF THE LATCH HAS BROKEN, BUT IT LOOKS OK
DURING A RIGHT TURN, LOST POWER STEERING. DASH WARNING CITING ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE. ALMOST STRUCK CAR AT CROSS STREET WAITING AT LIGHT. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH RECALL ON PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS AND OTHER MODELS OF THE SAME YEAR. PER FORD DEALER, REQUIRES REPLACEMENT AT $1952 COST BECAUSE NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL.
I TRY TURNING ON MY CAR IT DOES NOT START. IT TURNS ON BUT DOESN'T FULLY POWER UP. I'VE HEARD MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AS WELL
CAR SIMPLY STALLS RANDOMLY WHILE IN MOTION, STREETS OR HIGHWAY. TRANSMISSION SHAKES RANDOMLY WHILE ACCELERATING MAINLY WHILE SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR, MAINLY IN CITY STREETS CAR APPARENTLY GOES TO NEUTRAL GREAT RANDOMLY WHILE THE STICK IS IN DRIVE POSITION, BOTH CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAY.
WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE WIRING HARNESSES FOR OTHER FORD FOCUSES WITH THE SAME ISSUE BUT MINE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THAT RECALL. THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING HAS CAUSED ME TO ALMOST BE HIT SEVERAL TIMES AND IS A SAFETY CONCERN.
ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSIST WENT OUT ON FORD FOCUS MAKING IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. MY FOCUS IS A 2013 WITH ONLY 15000 MILES AND ONLY USED FOR 20 MILES TRANSPORTATION A DAY 5 DAYS A WEEK. INITIALLY WAS MOVING AND WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE. IT HASN'T WORKED SINCE.
STEERING POWER ASSIST FAULT MESSAGE WILL COME UP AND STEERING WILL BECOME VERY HARD. HAPPENED WHILE BACKING FROM MY DRIVEWAY AND TURNING STEERING WHEEL FULLY TO THE RIGHT OR TO THE LEFT. DIAGNOSIS IS CALLING FOR A REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING RACK WITH ABOUT $2500 FEE. UPON REQUEST, FORD DECIDED TO NOT PROVIDE ANY FINANCIAL HELP.

WAS TOLD THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURES WERE DUE TO BATTERY, WHICH WAS REPLACED OUTSIDE OF DEALER WITH NO FIX TO PROBLEMS AT ALL. WAS TOLD NEED TO REPLACE RADIO WHICH WAS NO LONGER ANY GOOD, CAR LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD AT THIS TIME AND THAT THE TRUNK LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
