WHEN THE CAR STARTS MOVING FROM A STOP, THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING CAUSING A LOSS IN MOMENTUM. THIS HAPPENS IN THE FIRST TWO GEARS.
2013 FORD FOCUS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE. *JS *JS
WHILE TRAVELING ON A SURFACE STREET, AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE ENGINE DECELERATED VERY QUICKLY. THE DASH INSTRUMENTATION SHOWED "ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW!" THE ENGINE WAS SPUTTERING AND SHAKING AS I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE TO GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER. I DID GET OVER SAFELY. MY WIFE AND I WERE VERY BADLY SHAKEN. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES I REGAINED MY COMPOSURE ENOUGH TO TRY TO RESTART THE CAR. IT TOOK ABOUT 3 TRIES TO RESTART. THE INSTRUMENTS WERE BACK TO NORMAL EXCEPT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I DROVE HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. A HALF HOUR LATER I TRIED TO START THE CAR AND IT DID IT AGAIN. THE CAR HAS BEEN TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. MY WIFE IS NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR. WE LIVE IN ARIZONA. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 65 MPH. THE AVERAGE SPEED OF CARS ON THE HIGHWAY IS 75 MPH JUST TO KEEP UP WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. NOT IF, BUT WHEN THIS HAPPENS TO A DRIVER TRAVELLING AT 65 TO 70 MPH THERE WILL BE COSTLY REPERCUSSIONS AND HOPEFULLY NO LOSS OF LIFE, BUT LIFE CHANGING INJURIES. THIS CAR IS A DEATH TRAP. I ALSO HAVE FILED A CLAIM IN THE ONGOING FORD TRANSMISSION SETTLEMENT, VARGAS V. FORD MOTOR CO., CASE. NO. 2:12-CV-08388-AB-FFM. I AM SURE THAT YOU ARE AWARE OF THIS CASE. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OFF OUR STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. I KNOW YOU WILL DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE AND PLEASE, SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. I PURCHASE A 2013 FORD FOCUS JULY OF 2013. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR, IT STARTED TO JERK AS I WOULD PRESS THE GAS TO ACCELERATE THE AUTO. I'VE TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT 6 TIMES SINCE. THEY'VE RESET THE SYSTEM AND ABOUT A MONTH LATER, THE CARD WOULD JERK AGAIN. THIS PAST SUMMER, IN A PARKING LOT OF A SHOPPING CENTER MY CAR WOULDN'T TURN ON. I HAD TO CALL A TOWING COMPANY AND TAKE IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN TO HAVE CHECKED OUT. THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO THE CLUTCH, IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS REPLACED AND THE JERKING CONTINUED TO THE POINT I WAS SO USED TO IT, I FORGOT ABOUT IT. A FEW NIGHTS AGO I HAD THE MOST TERRIFYING SITUATIONS WHILE DRIVING. AS I WAS DRIVING, I'D PRESS THE BRAKE TO STOP AT THE RED LIGHT AND THE CAR KEPT WANTING TO ACCELERATE, MAKING THE SYSTEM GO CRAZY AND THE CAR DIEING. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON BUT IT DIED AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP NOW SAYS ITS THE CLUTCH AND SOMETHING ON THE TRANSMISSION THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. NOW, I GET A CALL SAYING THEY CANNOT REPLACE THE CLUTCH UNTIL I REPLACE THE RELEASE BARING, WHICH I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. MY LIFE WAS IN DANGER AND I COULD HAVE EASILY CRASHED INTO ANOTHER CAR. I AM SO FURIOUS WITH FORD AND WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER CAR FROM THEM. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR A PART THAT IS ON RECALL TO BE REPLACED. VERY UPSET!
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle started sputtering and hesitating. The vehicle was repaired under an unknown recall. The contact stated that five times between 2016 and 2018, while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle sputtered and paused. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the contact was informed that the transmission control module needed to be replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 63,503.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE. CAR WAS STOPPED IN A PARKING LOT AND HILL ASSIST LIGHT CAME ON, WARNING ON INFO CENTER SCREEN SAYING HILL ASSIST UNAVAILABLE. WHEN TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD CAR REVED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL, INFO CENTER SHOWING "D". MOVED SHIFT LEVER TO PARK, NO CHANGE ON INFO SCREEN, REVERSE AND DRIVE NO CHANGE. SHUT OFF CAR AND CAR WOULD NOT START LIKE IT WAS IN GEAR. PLACED LEVER IN PARK AND REMOVED FOOT FROM BRAKE AND CAR STARTED ROLLING. MOVED CAR TO PARKING SPOT WITH LEVER IN PARK AND INFO SCREEN SHOWING DRIVE. ONLY PARKING BRAKE KEPT CAR FROM MOVING.
RIGHT NOW, FORD IS REBUILDING THE HYBRID TRANSITION FOR MY 2013 FORD FOCUS FOR AT LEAST THE 4TH OR 5TH TIME. THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL, SO MANY COMPLETE SHUT DOWNS (SOMETIMES AS I AM GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY) AND SO MANY SERVICE APPOINTMENTS THAT IT'S ASTONISHING THERE ARE NO OFFICIAL RECALLS ON THE BOOKS. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NEVER CONSIDER BUYING ANOTHER FORD UNTIL THEY MAKE THIS SITUATION RIGHT.
(1) GOOGLE FORD TRANSMISSION SETTLEMENT. INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH DESIGN. THAT'S THE BIGGEST PROBLEM AND ALTHOUGH I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND THEY "FIXED" IT I HAVE NO FAITH. (2) I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALER THIS MORNING FOR ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST FAILURE. LOST STEERING WHILE DRIVING. GOOGLED THAT AND FOUND OUT ABOUT THE MASSIVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS ISSUE. CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAID VIN DOESN'T SHOW IT AS A RECALL. I'M ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED WITH THE LEVEL OF DECEIT BY FORD.
DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE WITH MY REGULAR MECHANIC IN DOBSON, NC, THE MECHANIC NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING. I BEGAN TO NOTICE THE SHUDDER DURING SHIFTING HAD RETURNED. SO, I RETURNED TO THE DEALER, PARKWAY FORD IN WINSTON SALEM, NC. ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER, A REPRESENTATIVE CALLED ME AND SAID THE DEALERSHIP WAS INTERESTED IN BUYING BACK MY CAR. I TOLD HER THAT I WAS REPRESENTED BY AN ATTORNEY AND THAT HER CALL WAS VERY IRREGULAR AND ILLEGAL. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE CONSULTANT REFUSED TO EVEN RUN A DIAGNOSTIC ON MY CAR SAYING THAT HE COULD NOT SINCE I WAS REPRESENTED BY AN ATTORNEY. I REMINDED HIM OF THE 100,000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY I HAD PURCHASED WITH THE VEHICLE. HE CALLED FOR THE SHOP FOREMAN TO GO FOR A RIDE WITH ME. THE SHUDDER AND THE SLIP WERE NOTICED BY THE SHOP FOREMAN. BUT, HE SAID THAT BOTH WERE NORMAL AND THAT WAS THE WAY THE VEHICLE SAVED FUEL. WHEN WE RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS PRESENTED WITH A COPY OF A FORD SERVICE BULLETIN THAT WAS NO MORE THAN PROPAGANDA. MY MECHANIC SAID EMPHATICALLY THAT THE SHUDDER ON SHIFTING AND SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR WERE NOT NORMAL IN ANY VEHICLE AND COULD BE DANGEROUS, SO, THE FOURTH INCIDENT WITH THE DPS6 TRANSMISSION GOES UNREPAIRED. I CONTACTED MY ATTORNEY IN NOVI, MI AND HE DOCUMENTED THE INCIDENT FOR FILING WITH MY CASE IN THE FEDERAL DISTRICT COURT. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED THREE MONTHS AFTER THE LAST CLUTCH REPLACEMENT.

THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER TINPUSHER, LLC (801 S STATE ST UNIT 10 11, BUNNELL, FL 32110) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENSORS INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION WERE FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
RECEIVED A "STEERING ASSISTANCE FAULT" WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH DISPLAY AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE WHICH RESULTED IN NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT EXTREME EFFORT.. AFTER TURNING OFF THE CAR, IT RESET AND BEGAN FUNCTIONING. APPROXIMATELY A WEEK LATER IT HAPPENED ONCE MORE AFTER STARTING THE CAR, AND ONCE AGAIN IT RESET AND WAS DRIVABLE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS CONDITION AND POSSIBLY DEADLY IF NOT CORRECTED. I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY, MANY INSTANCES OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER FORD PRODUCTS SUCH AS FUSIONS, EXPLORERS, LINCOLNS AND MANY OTHERS THAT DID HAVE A RECALL. WHY HAS THE FOCUS NOT BEEN RECALLED WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND EXPEDITED TO MAKE THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY REPAIRS AT THEIR COST AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED TO SAVE LIVES.
WHEN TAKING OFF FROM IDLE, IT SHUTTERS AND JERKS, ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION ALLSO ALLOWS ROLE BACK ON A HILL.
WHILE PULLING OUT OF MY GARAGE I RECEIVED A "STEERING ASSIST FAULT" NOTIFICATION ON MY DASHBOARD. I HAD TO MISS ANOTHER DAY OF WORK FOR THIS ISSUE. I SAY ANOTHER BECAUSE I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE IN THE SHOP OVER 20 TIMES FOR OTHERS ISSUES ON TOP OF THIS. I PURCHASED MY FOCUS IN 2013 BRAND NEW AND 4 YEARS LATER MY STEERING GEAR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED? SINCE I'M AT 70,000 MILES I'M WELL PAST ANY COVERAGE AND THEY WANT ME TO SHELL OUT 1600 DOLLARS TO REPLACE IT. I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH THIS CAR SINCE DRIVING OFF THE LOT (TRANSMISSION, CLUTCH, SEAL LEAKS) AND THIS IS JUST ANOTHER NOTCH ON MY FORD VEHICLE OWNER BELT!! NOT HAPPY AT ALL WITH THIS PURCHASE AND WILL NEVER PURCHASE A FORD VEHICLE AGAIN!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE TRUNK OPERATED INDEPENDENTLY. AFTER THE CONTACT CLOSED THE TRUNK, A MESSAGE APPEARED INDICATING THAT THE TRUNK WAS STILL OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BILL KAY FORD (14633 S CICERO AVE, MIDLOTHIAN, IL 60445) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LATCH ON THE TRUNK NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND 'ASSISTED STEERING FAILURE' NOTICE CAME UP ON DASHBOARD
THE CAR IS STALLING WHEN ACCELERATING WHICH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT FROM THIS YEAR FOCUS OWNERS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP BUT THEY TOO WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE. SOME OF THE READING IS SHOWING THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION ISSUE WHICH IS CAUSING THIS.
CAR SHUDDERS AT VARYING SEVERITIES--SOMETIMES MORE MILD THAN OTHERS, MOSTLY SEVERE OTHERWISE DURING ACCELRATION, AND VARIOUS MOMENTS WHILE DRIVING, AND DURING THE ENTIRE PROCESS OF TURNING. I HAVE BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO GEORGE WALL FORD LINCOLN IN SHREWSBURY NJ TWICE FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. FIRST TIME THEY UPDATED A MODULE AND IT HELPED FOR ABOUT A WEEK. THEN THE PROBLEM RETURNED. SECOND TIME THEY HAD IT EVEN LONGER, AND UPON PICK UP I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS ACTING 'WITHIN SPEC', AND DOING 'WHAT IT IS DESIGNED TO DO,' SO NO FIX WAS MADE. CAR CONTINUES TO SHUDDER SEVERELY. TRANSMISSION IS TECHNICALLY MANUAL, DESPITE BEING AN AUTOMATIC, AND THE COMPUTER DOES THE SHIFTING. THAT IS WHAT I WAS TOLD. HOWEVER, IF THAT IS THE CASE, THEN THIS CAR DRIVES MANUAL TERRIBLY. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SUPPORT CHAT AND WAS TOLD I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR BUYBACK BECAUSE OF CAR'S AGE/MILEAGE. CARE IS UNDER 50K MILES, AND I BOUGHT THE CAR CERTIFIED PREOWNED NOVEMBER 2017, JUST UNDER A YEAR AGO. I WAS NOT INFORMED OF ANY RECALLS, OR THE TRANSMISSION'S BEHAVIOR UPON LOOKING, BUYING, AND PAYING FOR THE CAR IN FULL ALL IN ONE EVENING. I HAVE JUST SENT A LENGHTLY LETTER TO FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS THIS WEEK. AWAITING RESPONSE. MAY FILE LEMON LAW IF SITUATION IS NOT HANDLED PROPERLY. I HAVE BEEN TOLD MY CAR'S ISSUE IS NOT SAFETY RELATED SO IT IS NOT DIRE, HOWEVER DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, OR WHEN GOING THROUGH TURNS, OR SIMPLY STARTING MY CAR GENTLY AT LIGHTS HAS BECOME AN ISSUE, AND I HAVE NEARLY BEEN REAR ENDED MANY TIMES. EVENTUALLY I WILL NOT BE SO LUCKY AS TO ESCAPE YET ANOTHER NEAR-ACCIDENT. SOON, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE, I WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE A CAR COME CRASHING INTO MY REAR END BECAUSE OF FAILED AND SHUDDERING ACCELRATION DUE TO THE SHODDY TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER.
WE HAD HE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME. A CHECK OF THE CODE SHOWED A FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM PROBLEM. WE ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN TRYING TO FUEL THE VEHICLE WHEN PLACING THE FUEL NOZZLE INTO THE FUEL FILL A RUSH OF AIR WOULD ESCAPE. AFTER FUELING THE CAR WOULD NOT START. ONCE WE GET THE CAR STARTED IT WOULD RUN ROUGH FOR SEVERAL MILES. ALSO, THE FUEL GAUGE WAS WRONG. THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD SHOW 1/2 TANK BUT WE RAN OUT OF GAS. THE MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK, OUR MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK, PURGE VALVE AND ASSOCIATED HOSES, FUEL PUMP. ALSO, ANOTHER PROBLEM AROSE WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. ALL OF THE GAUGES INCLUDING THE RADIO WENT BLANK AND WOULD NOT FUNCTION. THE MECHANIC HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND RESET THE COMPUTER FOR THE INSTRUMENTS AND RADIO TO BEGIN WORKING AGAIN.
LOUD CRACKLING/POPPING/STATIC SOUND COMES FROM RADIO AT RANDOM INTERVALS, RADIO THEN STOPS PRODUCING SOUND, HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF, OPEN & SHUT DOOR, THEN TURN CAR BACK ON THEN RADIO STARTS WORKING AGAIN. SAFETY CONCERN IS THE LOUDNESS OF THE SOUND COMING AT RANDOM TIMES IS STARTLING AND CAN CAUSE AN INVOLUNTARY JERK/JUMP. VEHICLE HAS MANUAL/AUTO TRASMISSION AND MANUAL TRANSMISSION NO LONGER WORKS. WHEN IN AUTO, THE CAR HESITATES WITH ACCELERATION, BEFORE JOLTING FORWARD AND HAS STALLED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE.
ENGINE TENDS TO FALTER WHEN ACCELERATING. ENGINE TENDS TO HESITATE. SHUDDERING AND VIBRATION REGARDLESS OF WHETHER ON CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY.
I PURCHASED THE CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED FORD IN 2014 AND IN 2016 HAD TO IT IN FOR SERVICE ON A CLUTCH ASY- SENSOR TURBI ISSUE. AFTER A FEW WEEKS THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED. THE AFOREMENTIONED HAPPENED AGAIN AND WAS TAKEN IN FOR THE 2ND TIME FOR THE CLUTCH ASY-SENSOR TURBI ISSUE. ON 11/17/2017 IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE SAME ISSUES FOR THE 3RD TIME, THIS TIME I WAS TOLD ITS OUT OF WARRANTY. I EXPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD THIS ISSUES TWO PRIOR TIMES AND THE CLUTCH SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE. I WAS THEN TOLD TO TAKE THE MATTER UP WITH CORPORATE. I ALSO LOCATED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST FORD FOR THE SAME ISSUES AM FACING. PLEASE HELP HOLD FORD RESPONSIBLE FOR INSTALLING DEFECTIVE CLUTCH SYSTEMS IN THEIR VEHICLES.
UPON BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I ATTEMPTED TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO DIRECT MY VEHICLE IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAFFIC. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT EASILY TURN, AND A GRINDING NOISE COULD BE HEARD INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. AS I PULLED FORWARD THE STEERING WOULD STICK, RESISTING CHANGES IN DIRECTION, THEN BREAKING LOOSE ON OVERCORRECTING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE. THE DEALER (CROWN FORD, 555 CYPRESS AVE, REDDING, CA 96001) DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED AND SERVICE IS REQUIRED WARNING LIGHT CAME ON DURING START UP. TURNING WHEEL WAS VERY DIFFICULT. VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 52,749 MILES

TURNS OUT THE POWER STEERING MODULE WENT OUT. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN OCCURRING PROBLEM IN PRIOR YEAR MODELS AND HAD RECALLS ON THEM. HOWEVER, THE 2013 MODEL DID NOT HAVE A RECALL AND WE HAD TO SHELL OUT OVER $1700 FOR REPAIRS OUT OF OUR OWN POCKET.

ACCORDING TO SOME REPORTS, OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD TO REPLACED THE FUEL TANK THAT WAS DEFORMED DUE TO THE ISSUE OF FAULTY FUEL GAUGE. I AM MORE THAN TICKED OFF BECAUSE THIS IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR. LAST YEAR IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION COMPUTER THAT WENT OUT. THANKFULLY JUST CAME FROM A STOP SIGN AND NOT TRAVELING FAST, NO INJURY. 2ND PROBLEM, DRIVING DOWN ROAD AT APPROX 35MPH WHEN AIRBAGS SUDDENLY DEPLOYED. WONDERED IF HIT SMALL ANIMAL. GOT OUT TO INVESTIGATE.....NOTHING. VEHICLE THEN ROLLED OFF ROAD (DECLINE IN TERRAIN) LANDING RESTED IN A CHAIN LINK FENCE. UPON INSPECTION, DISCOVERED THAT MOTOR MOUNTS HAD FAILED CAUSING MOTOR TO DROP FORWARDS TOWARDS RADIATOR THEREFORE INDICATING CRASH AND DEPLOYING AIRBAGS. ALL COMPONENTS CONNECTED TO MOTOR RIPPED FORWARDS AS WELL. THANKFULLY ALSO NO INJURY. IF THAT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED AT HIGH SPEEDS, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH COULD HAVE RESULTED. RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD FOR 16C13 TAILGATE RELEASE SOFTWARE UPDATE TO BOBY CONTROL MODULE, MADE APPT AND TOOK CAR IN ON OCT. 4, 2017 TO FREMONT FORD FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL AND ALSO 16S30 SIDE DOOR LATCH REPLACEMENT, THEY ONLY PERFORMED THE 16S30 RECALL BUT NOT THE 16C13 TAILGATE SOFTWARE, SAID IT WAS ALREADY UP TO DATE. TAILGATE HAS OPENED UNEXPECTEDLY TWICE SINCE THEN. NEED TO CLARIFY IF SAFETY RECALL 16C13 APPLIES TO MY VEHICLE, AND WHY WAS FREMONT FORD UNABLE TO APPLY SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE 16C13 SAFETY RECALL.

POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE INDICATED ON INSTRUMENT PANEL AND FULL LOSS OF ANY STEERING ASSIST. STEERING REQUIRES/REQUIRED LOTS OF MUSCLE TO MAINTAIN ANY FORM OF ACTIVE DRIVER INTENDED STEERING CHANGES. IT MAY FAIL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 70 OR ON VEHICLE STARTUP. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND FIND A SAFE PLACE TO STOP AND FORTUNATELY RESET THE POWER ASSIST WITHOUT ANYONE BEING INJURED OR KILLED. RESTARTING VEHICLE RESET THE PS ASSIST MODULE FOR A FEW MONTHS BUT THE SYSTEM IS NOW FULLY NONWORKING. THE STEERING GOES OUT WHENEVER IT DESIRES. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP WITH A POSSIBLE RACK-AND-PINION REPLACEMENT OR A STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT ONCE THE PROBLEM IS FULLY DIAGNOSED. THIS WILL ALSO REQUIRE A VEHICLE ALIGNMENT AND POSSIBLE COMPUTER RESET AND RE-FLASH ACCORDING TO THE SHOP. COST WILL BE AT LEAST $2500. FOCUS ENGINE WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE RUNNING OR AT THE STOP LIGHT/SIGN, FUEL SAYS 50+ BEFORE EMPTY BUT IN ALREADY OUT OF GAS. FOCUS SOMETIMES WOULD NOT TURN ON WHEN IT SUDDENLY SHUTS OFF. ALSO WOULD EXPERIENCE LOSE OF POWER OR BAD ACCELERATION. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON DUE TO THIS ISSUE OF FUEL RAIL SENSOR SIGNAL. I CHECKED ONLINE FOR OTHER ISSUES REGARDING FORD FOCUS AND WHAT I FOUND WAS QUITE VERY INTERESTING. AND I ALSO CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS BUT THEY DIDN'T GIVE ME ANY ANSWER ABOUT THIS ISSUE. ONLY TOLD ME SORRY, I CAN UNDERSTAND YOUR FRUSTRATION, I CAN HELP YOU GET A ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. I TOLD HIM I AM LOOKING FOR A LONG TIME SOLUTION AND NOT ONE DAY SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM. FORD KNOWS THEY HAVE A PROBLEM BUT WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT. THIS ISSUE IS A MANUFACTURER'S (FORD) ISSUE AND NOT BY CONSUMERS. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. I BELIEVE ITS AT NUMBER 12 NOW. I'VE HAD THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCHES REPLACED 2 TIMES, PROGRAMMED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE DRIVER PREDICTOR COMPUTER TWO TIMES. THE DANGER OF THE PRODUCT STILL AFTER ALL THIS IS THAT WHEN I PULL ONTO THE ROAD IT JERKS, HESITATES AND AT TIMES LOSES POWER BEFORE SURGING FORWARD. IT CAN BE WHILE I'M STARTING OUT AT A RED LIGHT OR PULLING OUT ONTO MAIN 70 MILE AN HOUR HIGHWAY. AT ONE TIME WHEN DRIVER PREDICTOR WENT OUT, IT STALLED ON THE MAIN HIGHWAY AND I HAD TO DRIFT INTO THE PARKING LOT WITH A LOCKED UP STEERING WHEEL. I LIVE IN A SMALL COMMUNITY AND THERE ARE 3 OTHER RESIDENTS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I TRANSPORT MY GRANDCHILDREN IN THIS AUTO AND I LACK CONFIDENCE EVERY TIME I PULL OUT. THIS IS AN EXTREME HAZARD AND FORD CAN'T SEEM TO FIX IT.
I DROVE MY CAR TO PICK MY GRANDSON UP CAME PARKED CAR WENT TO GET BACK IN IT TO LEAVE STEERING ASSIST FAILURE FLASHED ON AND I HAD A HARD TIME STEERING IT AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THE STEERING IS ALL MESSED UP AND IT'S GOING TO COST OVER 2000 TO FIX.IVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 4 MONTHS AND THIS MAKES THE SECOND TIME IT'S BEEN IN THE GARAGE. FIRST TIME THE KEY FELL APART. NOW THE STEERING IS GONE.
