WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE IN ABOUT 5 INCHES OF SNOW, THE TRACTION/STABILITY CONTROL KICKED IN AND MADE MY CAR GO ABOUT AN 1 INCH A MINUTE. EVER SINCE THAT INCIDENT, WHENEVER I START FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE CAR WILL STUTTER AND SOMETIMES SLOW DOWN AFTER STARTING EVEN THOUGH I HAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM IF THERE IS NO TRAFFIC, BUT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR FAST MOVING TRAFFIC, A PERSON CAN GET RUN OVER. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TIMES THAT THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC HAS HAD TO EITHER STOP OR CONSIDERABLY SLOW DOWN WHILE MY CAR IS SLOWLY GETTING UP TO SPEED. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THEY STATE THAT IT IS RUNNING PROPERLY. I HAVE TRIED TO TRADE IN THE VEHICLE AND 1 DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BY OTHER FOCUS OWNERS. WE HAVE A FRIEND THAT ALSO HAS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL, BUT IT IS AN AUTOMATIC, AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE THE PROBLEM AS WELL. SO THIS IS NOT JUST A PROBLEM WITH THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION MODEL. *TR
THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS/VIBRATES WHEN SHIFTING. THE TRANSMISSION IS AN AUTOMATIC BUT SHIFTS LIKE A STICK. THERE WOULD BE TIMES WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD FEEL LIKE IT WAS POWERING DOWN WHEN IT WOULD GO BETWEEN GEARS. DUE TO DEALER SERVICE ISSUES, IT TOOK MORE THAN A MONTH TO FIX THE ISSUE. NOW, IN 7/22/2015, THE TRANSMISSION IS ONCE AGAIN SHIFTING FUNNY, BOGGING DOWN, SHUDDERING AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. THERE IS AN ACTION SERVICE ON THE FOCUS TRANSMISSION, BUT NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, AND ONLY THREE DAYS OF RENTAL ARE BEING OFFERED. EVEN WITH THE EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN, I WOULD ONLY GET 13 DAYS. CONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO WORK, WHICH IS 70 MILES ONE WAY. NO HELP OFFERED, EXCEPT AN INCENTIVE TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE, WHICH IS NOT FINANCIALLY FEASIBLE AT THIS TIME. NOT SURE HOW FORD EXPECTS PEOPLE TO LIVE WITHOUT TRANSPORTATION FOR SEVERAL MONTHS WHILE THEY TRY AND FIGURE IT OUT.
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS REST ON A PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT IS NOT HEATED. AFTER HAVING FULLY CLEARED MY WINDSHIELD OF SNOW AND ICE BEFORE MY TRIP, I WAS QUITE SURPRISED TO FIND MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS NON-FUNCTIONAL WHEN I WENT TO USE THEM TO CLEAR ROAD SPRAY FROM MY WINDSHIELD. WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS THAT THE WIPERS HAD REFROZEN TO THE WINDSHIELD AFTER HAVING BEEN CLEARED EARLIER. I COMMONLY DRIVE WITH THE VEHICLE'S CLIMATE CONTROL SET TO THE FLOOR/DEFROST SETTING TO KEEP THE WINDSHIELD WARM, ESPECIALLY ON THE FIRST LEG OF A TRIP. THIS IS THE FIRST VEHICLE I OWN WHERE THE WIPERS DISAPPEAR FROM THE VIEW WHEN THEY ARE NOT USED. INSPECTION OF THE WINDSHIELD DESIGN SHOWS THAT THE LOWER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD IS NOT DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO CABIN HEAT, NOR IS THERE A EASY PATH FOR ENGINE HEAT TO AFFECT THIS AREA. THERE SHOULD BE, AT A MINIMUM, A METHOD TO DEFROST THE LOWER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT THE WIPERS REST ON, EITHER THROUGH DIRECT THERMAL ELECTRIC MEANS, OR BY EXPOSURE TO CABIN HEAT WHEN THE HVAC IS ON THE DEFROST SETTING. HAVING WIPERS THAT RANDOMLY NOT FUNCTION BECAUSE THEY ARE FROZEN REPRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD WHEN ROAD SPRAY COVERS YOUR WINDSHIELD DUE TO GREATLY REDUCED VISIBILITY. ADDITIONAL HAZARDS ARE PRESENT BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO CHOICE TO BUT TO IMMEDIATLY STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO FREE YOUR WIPERS. THIS LEAVES YOU EXPOSED TO TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS WHILE YOU ARE STOPPED, AS WELL AS THE INHERENT RISK ASSOCIATED WITH MERGING BACK ON THE ROAD FROM A FULL STOP WITHOUT THE AID OF AN ON-RAMP, OR OTHER ACCELERATION LANE. *TR
TRANSMISSION IS GRINDING CAR IS SHIMMING ACTS AS IF IT WANTS TO STALL. I HAVE HAD IT TO BERT WOLF 2 TIMES THIS YEAR AND ITS STILL NOT FIXED. IM AFRAID CAR WILL STALL WHEN TURNING IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,552. PASSENGER SIDE TAIL LIGHT IS OUT (BRAKE LIGHT BULB FAULT WARNING LIGHT IS ON). AFTER SEVERAL BULB CHANGES, THE BRAKE LIGHT EITHER DOES NOT COME ON OR IT BURNS OUT VERY QUICKLY. AN ON-LINE SEARCH REVEALED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND FORD HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT THIS SAFETY CONCERN. I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS PROBLEM FIRST STARTED BECAUSE IT MAY HAVE BEEN A LONG TIME BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE NOTICED IT AND ALERTED ME. THE PROBLEM IS PRESENT AS SOON AS THE KEY IS TURNED ON.
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK ON 12/23/2013 AND ON THE DASHBOARD OF MY CAR SAID ENGINE FAULT CHECK SYSTEM NOW LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN ON ME ON THE EXPRESSWAY I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES CRANKING MY CAR BUT IT WOULDN'T START SO I CALL IDOT TO HELP ME THEY CAME AND TOWED ME TO THE NEAREST EXIT AFTER AN HOUR AND A HALF MY CAR STARTED UP BUT THE ENGINE SYMBOL REMAIN ON THE DASHBOARD I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT BACK HOME I WAITED FOR JOE RIZZO FORD TO OPEN AND THEN I TOOK MY CAR TO THEM THEY ENDED UP KEEPING MY CAR AND I HAD TO RENT ME A CAR UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS FIX JOE RIZZO FORD SAID THEY WILL CALL ME WHEN THE PROBLEM IS FIX--> THE CAR THEY GAVE ME WAS ANOTHER FORD FOCUS 2013 AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW THE FREAKING ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE RENTAL CAR I HAD MY PERSONAL CAR FOR A YEAR NOW THERE IS NO WAY THAT I SHOULD BE HAVING ENGINE PROBLEMS OR ANYTHING ELSE WRONG WITH THIS CAR FORD REALLY NEEDS TO GET THESE PROBLEMS FIX BEFORE AN ACCIDENT HAPPEN TO SOMEONE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND MADE A RATTLING NOISE. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE FROM A COMPLETE STOP AND ERRONEOUSLY ROLLED BACKWARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THE VEHICLE HAD TO LEARN HIS DIFFERENT DRIVING HABITS. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
MY FORD FOCUS SE HATCHBACK HAS DELAYS IN SHIFTING GEARS AT LOW SPEEDS AND FROM STOPS. WHEN ACCELERATING, THE ENGINE REVS HIGHER BUT DOES NOT SHIFT UNTIL A FEW SECONDS LATER WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO JERK LIKE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THIS IS DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY OR AT A 4-WAY STOP WHEN YOU HAVE TO REACT QUICKLY AND WITH TIMING ACCURACY, OR TRYING TO TEACH MY DAUGHTER TO DRIVE! THE SERVICE CENTER OF MY DEALER SAID THE SOFTWARE HAD TO BE UPDATED THE FIRST AND SECOND TIME I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR THIS PROBLEM. DOES THIS MEAN I HAVE TO BRING THE CAR IN EVERY TIME THERE IS A NEW SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH SEEMS TO BE QUITE FREQUENTLY? AND THE SOFTWARE UPDATE DOESN'T EVEN SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I EVEN GOT A THANK YOU EMAIL FROM THE SERVICE DIRECTOR AT MY DEALERSHIP (SENT BY A PERSON WITH A DEALER-CARE.COM EMAIL), WHICH IS MOST LIKELY JUST A STOCK EMAIL. IT THANKED ME FOR MY SERVICE BUSINESS AND SAID THAT IF I HAD FURTHER CONCERNS THAT I COULD "REACH OUT" TO HIM AT MY EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY. WELL I REPLIED TO THAT EMAIL VOICING MY CONCERNS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND AFTER 4 MONTHS HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REPLY EMAIL OR CALL ADDRESSING MY CONCERN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS SE. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL CONTIPRO TIRES, SIZE 215/55/R16. THE DOT NUMBER WAS CNB3WBPC0913. THE CONTACT STATED THE TIRES HAD LIMITED TRACTION AND FAIL TO GRIP THE ROAD. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED DURING LIMITED CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER; HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH AFTER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DEPRESSED, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE THAT EMITTED FROM THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE LEFT AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT MANEUVER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT OFFER A REMEDY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,722.
THIS IS SIMILAR TO THE CAR THAT I AM DRIVING (ANOTHER FORD FOCUS ELECTRIC). MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO SCHOOL AT THE INTERSECTION OF ROSEVILLE PARKWAY AND DOUGLAS BOULEVARD, IN ROSEVILLE, CA TO DAY AT ABOUT 7:15 AM FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THE CAR STOPPED. SHE WAS WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN. MY DAUGHTER FREAKED OUT AND CALLED ME. I ASKED HER TO SHUT THE CAR OFF, OPEN ONE OF THE DOORS, WAIT FOR ONE MINUTE AND TRY TO START THE CAR AGAIN. AFTER THE SECOND ATTEMPT THE CAR STARTED. LUCKY FOR HER, THE OTHER CARS SWITCHED IN THE OTHER LANES AND SHE WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR. AGAIN. THIS IS HAPPENING TOO OFTEN AND FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. SAME THING HAS HAPPENED IN SAME MODEL AND MAKE CAR THAT I DRIVE. *TR
AT 15,583 MILES THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING VERY HARD AND AT RANDOM TIMES CHANGING GEARS. THE DEALER SAID THE DOUBLE CLUTCH TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND I HAD TO WAIT THREE WEEKS FOR THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THEY SAID THEY HAD SO MANY CARS AHEAD OF ME TO JUST DRIVE THE CAR AS THE TRANSMISSION HAD ALREADY FAILED AND IF IT STRANDED ME, THEY WOULD TOW THE CAR IN. THREE WEEKS LATER THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AND THE CONDITION WAS CORRECTED. NOW AT 26,400 MILES, DURING A VERY HOT DAY, THE CAR LUNGED WHEN ACCELERATING AND THEN LOSS POWER DURING AN ACCELERATION FROM A STOP. MULTIPLE TIMES THE CAR FOLLOWING BEHIND HAD TO 'PANIC STOP' OR WOULD HAVE REAR ENDED MY CAR. AFTER ABOUT 40 MILES OF DRIVING, THE 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER LOOKED AT THE CAR AND SAID THEY COULD NOT WORK ON THE CAR FOR AT LEAST A WEEK BUT READ THE ERROR CODES AND TURN OFF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL NEXT WEEK AS IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS CONDITION, NO ONE WOULD THINK THIS CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE. THEN I WAS TOLD THAT AFTER THEY CHECK OUT THE CAR, IF THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED AGAIN, IT WOULD TAKE AT LEAST THREE WEEKS FOR THEM TO GET A NEW ONE AND THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO FIX IT ANY SOONER AS THEY HAVE SO MANY CARS AHEAD OF MINE THAT NEED NEW TRANSMISSIONS. FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS, THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN MUCH LOWER AND THE LUNGING HAS STOPPED. HOWEVER, THE TRANSMISSION EITHER SHIFTS PERFECT OR SHIFTS HARD AND IS AGAIN RANDOMLY CHANGING GEARS. THE IDLE IS ALSO BECOMING VERY ROUGH AND AFTER A STOP, STAYS AT 1200 RPMS AND TAKES ABOUT 10 SECONDS TO COME DOWN TO WHAT IS NORMAL ABOUT 700 RPM. *TR
I GENERALLY DO NOT HAVE BACK SEAT PASSENGERS, I PICKED UP MY TWO NEPHEWS AND I MADE THEM PUT THEIR SEAT BELTS ON. UPON ARRIVING AT OUR DESTINATION THE BOYS WERE HAVING TROUBLE RELEASING THE BELTS AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF STRUGGLING WITH THE BELTS WE FINALLY GOT THE BOYS RELEASED BUT NOW THE SEAT BELT MECHANISM IS STUCK DOWN IN THE HARNESS AND AM UNABLE TO LOCK ANY SEAT BELTS INTO PLACE. *TR

MY CAR IS BARELY THREE YEARS OLD, AND THE FIRST YEAR IT LEFT ME ON FOOT, DUE TO A POWER FAILURE, WHEN I GOT IT TOWED TO QUIKS IN QUINCY, THEY EXPLAINED SOMETHING ABOUT A SENSOR AND OR POWER TRAIN, I HAVE THE RESULTS OF WHAT THE WORK THAT WAS DONE ON THAT DAY, NOW ON 5/26/2015, AGAIN, MY CAR STARTS TO STALL ON ME AS I'M DRIVING IT, I TOOK IT IN AND NOW IT TURNS OUT THAT ITS A GEAR SHIFT PROBLEM, I HAVE TRIED TO CHANGE THIS CAR BUT IT SEEMS THE COMPANY JUST WANT TO FIX IT, SINCE ITS IN WARRANTY, WHAT CAN BE DONE FOR A CAR THAT COST ME 20,000 ITS NOT EVEN THREE YEARS OLD AND HAS THESE PROBLEMS, I NO LONGER FEEL COMFORTABLE I REALLY WOULD LIKE ANOTHER CAR WITH LESS HEADACHE, THIS IS A NEW CAR, I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT. AT 10K MILES I TOOK MY CAR INTO DEALER TO HAVE SERVICE AND ASK ABOUT CONTINUED ISSUES WITH SHUTTERING AND JERKING OF TRANSMISSION. I WAS GIVEN A PIECE OF PAPER FROM FORD STATING THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS. THE DEALER TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THIS WAS NOT DISCLOSED TO ME WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR AND WAS TOLD IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH "BREAK IN PERIOD" AND WOULD GO AWAY; IT DID NOT, WORSENED. AT 20K I WENT TO A DIFFERENT FORD DEALER FOR MY SERVICE AS THE ISSUE CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. AT LOW SPEEDS OR COAST INTO ACCELERATION THE CAR WOULD JERK VIOLENTLY AT TIMES. A KNOWN SEAL LEAK THAT HAD DAMAGED THE CLUTCH WAS FOUND. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS PROBABLY AN ISSUE FROM TIME-OF-PURCHASE SINCE I THERE WERE SIGNS OF LONG CONTINUED LEAKING AND CLUTCH WEAR. AT 30K I WENT TO A DIFFERENT FORD SERVICE AND ASKED TO GO TO HAVE MY TRANSMISSION LOOKED AT AGAIN AS I FELT UNSAFE. THE CAR WILL NEED A 2ND NEW CLUTCH REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER... THE PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER FROM FORD AND WON'T BE AVAILABLE FOR 12 WEEKS!! THAT'S 3 MONTHS WAITING TO REPAIR A NEW CAR UNDER WARRANTY!!! I ABSOLUTELY HATE TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO BOLT FORWARD OR SLIP AND NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE NEED IS URGENT. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MANY MANY OTHER FOCUS OWNERS WHO HAVE SIMILAR NIGHTMARES, OUT OF POCKET COSTS FOR RENTALS DURING SERVICE AND LOST DAYS' WORK FOR SERVICE REPAIR. I WAS ENTERING A CAR PORT THAT HAS A SLIGHT 2 DEGREE DOWNWARD SLOPE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR PORT. THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE SEEMED TO ACCELERATE SLIGHTLY WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE AND GO THROUGH THE CAR PORT FRONT OVERHANG. THE CURRENT DRIVING CONDITIONS ADEQUATE (THE WEATHER -VERY COLD, SNOWING BUT CARPORT WAS CLEAR UNDERNEATH) BEFORE AND SINCE THE REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO HESITATE TO ENGAGE MOMENTARILY ON DECELERATION AND ACCELERATION OPERATIONS. *TR
BOUGHT THE CAR ON 11/06/13, NOTICED HESITATION WHEN I ACCELERATED FROM A STOP. BROUGHT THE CAR IN 12/04/13 TO HAVE THE BUCKING CHECKED. THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION LEAK FOUND AND FIXED, AND HAD THE CLUTCH REPLACED. SECOND TIME I BROUGHT IT IN ON 07/28/14 WITH THE BUCKING AGAIN, THIS TIME THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, BUT THE BUCKING STOPPED AFTER I GOT IT BACK. THIRD TIME IN WAS 10/08/14. I WAS GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO PARK IT, THE CAR ACCELERATED, THEN IT WOULDN'T MOVE WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS TO BACK IT UP, HAD TO GET OUT AND PUSH IT BACK ON ITS PARKING SPOT. HAD THE CAR TOWED THE FOLLOWING MORNING, TOW TRUCK DRIVER STARTED THE CAR AND DROVE IT UP ON THE RAMP WITH NO PROBLEM. WE CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. WHEN WE PICKED UP THE CAR THE MECHANICS SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND THAT THEY THOUGHT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE COMPUTER BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY FOUND WRONG THAT NEEDED FIXING. A FEW DAYS LATER THE VOLUME IN THE CAR KEPT GOING UP AND DOWN ON ITS OWN. THEN THE 80MPH WARNING PROGRAM WAS TURNED OFF BY ITSELF. THE CAR IS STILL BUCKING AND THE BRAKES NOW SEEM TO FEEL SLIPPERY. *TR
TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT I WENT AND TOOK IT FOR A MAINTENANCE OIL APPOINTMENT, ON DECEMBER 3 AS I STARTED THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT START, IT KEPT MARKING CHECK ENGINE, IT LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE MIDDLE OF MY STREET BOYLSTON STREET, BOSTON, AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS IT WOULD START BUT NOT GET TOO FAR. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO QUIRK IN QUINCY. *TR
I'VE DRIVEN OVER 5,000 MILES ON THIS NEW FOCUS. THE FIRST 5K WERE OK BUT LATELY THE TRANSMISSION HAS BECOME EXTREMELY ERRATIC IN ITS BEHAVIOR. IT SHUDDERS VIOLENTLY AND FREQUENTLY AFTER SHIFTING IN TO 2ND GEAR AND THEN HESITATES TO ACCELERATE. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO HAS STARTED MAKING A CLANKING SOUND LIKE TWO PIE TINS BEING HIT UPON EACH OTHER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER.. THEY CONFIRMED IT, REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION ELECTRONICS AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. THAT DID NOTHING TO HELP IT. I TOOK IT BACK A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER AFTER ALMOST GETTING REAR-ENDED WHEN I PULLED INTO MOVING TRAFFIC AND IT SHUDDERED AND HESITATED UNEXPECTEDLY. THE DEALER KEPT IT FOR 2 DAYS AND THEN GAVE IT BACK SAYING THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. THEY ONLY DROVE IT 1 MILE WHICH IS NOT EXACTLY AN EXHAUSTIVE OR GOOD FAITH EFFORT TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM! SO, I'M NOW HEADED FOR TRIP 3 TO ANOTHER FORD SERVICE CENTER TO SEE IF THEY CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. THE REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE REP ACTUALLY TOLD ME THAT THESE TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD BE EXPECTED TO SHUDDER, GRIND AND HESITATE AS PART OF THEIR NORMAL OPERATION. THAT'S INSANE.. WHO WOULD BUY OR WANT A CAR THAT DID THAT!!! HAD IT OPERATED THAT WAY WHEN I TEST DROVE IT.. IT WOULD HAVE STAYED ON THE LOT TO BE SURE. *TR
THE SHIFTING ON THIS 2013 FOCUS HAS HAD THE USUAL JERKING, SHUDDERING, SUDDEN BURSTS WHEN ACCELERATING THROUGHOUT THE TWO YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. IN NOVEMBER 2013 WHEN ACCELERATING ON THE HIGHWAY, I WAS UNABLE TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC UNTIL I LET UP ON THE GAS AND TRIED AGAIN STEPPING ON THE GAS. IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN CHANGING LANES WHEN IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. TOOK IT IN AND A NEW CLUTCH WAS INSTALLED. IT HAS BEEN IN TO RE-PROGRAM SINCE THEN AND IN BETWEEN RE-PROGRAMMING HAVE PUT UP WITH THE ISSUES BECAUSE YOU ARE TIRED OF WASTING TIME AT THE DEALER GETTING THE SAME RE-PROGRAMMING DONE ONLY TO HAVE IT DONE AGAIN. JANUARY 22, 2014 UPON TURNING THE CORNER LOST CAPABILITY OF BEING ABLE TO SPEED UP BEYOND 12 MILES PER HOUR. CAR CURRENTLY IN SHOP AND DEALER HAS SAID CLUTCHES WERE BAD AND WAITING FOR PARTS TO REPAIR. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OF SOMETHING WRONG ON THE DASHBOARD. LUCKILY, I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND THIS OCCURRED AT A REASONABLE HOUR TO GET IT INTO THE DEALER. I HAVE CALLED FORD THREE TIMES WITHOUT A RESOLUTION. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE SINCE I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. IT IS ALSO GOING TO COST ME TO TRADE THIS VEHICLE IN TO ANOTHER COMPANY SINCE THEY ALL KNOW OF THE FOCUS PROBLEMS. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM STOPPED POSITIONS LIKE WAITING TO TURN, THE CAR WILL HESITATE BADLY WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR AND WILL NOT TAKE OFF VERY FAST. THIS OCCURS ON LEVEL AS WELL AS UNLEVEL GROUND. WE HAVE HAD THE CLUTCH REPLACED 3 TIMES WITHIN 2 YEARS AND CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES. THIS OCCURS WHEN IN DRIVE WHEN TURNING ALL THE TIME. IT ALSO OCCCCURS WHEN WE ARE TRYING TO SPEED UP TO PASS ANOTHER CAR OR GET AHEAD OF ONE. WHEN THE CAR IS ON AN ANGLE THE FUEL GAUGE WILL READ UP TO 30 MILES ON THE TANK BUT WILL STOP AS THE FUEL SENSOR DOES NOT SHOW THE CAR HAS GAS IN IT. DOING SO MAKE IT FEEL AS IF YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY TURN THE WHEEL BETWEEN THE NOTCH POINTS IN ORDER TO GO IN A STRAIGHT LINE, WHICH MAKES THE CAR HANDLE IN A VERY UNSAFE MANNER, WHEN YOU TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT WHEN THE WHEEL GOES INTO THE NOTCH THE CAR HEADS STRAIGHT FOR THE CAR NEXT TO YOU OR THE BARRIER/DITCH ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE TO TAKE 500 MILE TRIPS EVERY MONTH, AND THIS BECOMES A SERIOUS PROBLEM AT THE SPEEDS AND DISTANCES THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE. * THIS JOLT IS LIKE YOU HAVE TO TURN OVER A BUMP, THERE IS A POINT THAT REQUIRES MORE FORCE TO TURN THAN NORMAL, BUT THE MOMENT IT BREAKS THAT BARRIER, IT GOES BACK TO NORMAL CAUSING THE WHEEL TO TURN AND STICK INTO ANOTHER POSITION/NOTCH. THERE IS A NOTCH BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT ABOUT 10-15 DEGREES OF CENTER, MEANING ONCE YOU BREAK THE INITIAL FORCE TO MOVE FROM THE CENTER, IT WILL "CLUNK" INTO THE NOTCH AT 10-15 DEGREES FROM CENTER. *TR

WHEN YOU DRIVE THE CAR FROM 5 - 20 MINUTES AND WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SEATBELT - THERE IS NO ALARMING SOUND AND NO LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD. BUT, WHEN YOU TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND START AGAIN, YOU CAN HEAR THE ALARM AND THE LIGHT WILL APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SEATBELT. CONCERNS: IF THE DRIVER STOP (FOR DRIVING LET SAY 5 - 3 MINUTES) FOR EXAMPLE AND HE REMOVE THE SEATBELT FOR WHATEVER REASON, HE MIGHT FORGOT TO FASTEN THE SEATBELT AS THE CAR WILL NOT ALARM AND NO LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD. UPON STARTUP, THE CAR IDLES ROUGH AND THE RPMS DROP UNTIL THE ECU CATCHES IT AND THE RPMS INCREASE. THE PROBLEM BECOMES MORE FREQUENT AS THE CAR IS DRIVEN. AT TIMES, THE RPMS WILL DROP SO FAR THAT THE CAR WILL STALL. THE PROBLEM TENDS TO GET WORSE AS THE CAR HEATS UP. IT HAS STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN COME TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION OR TO PARK. FOR EXAMPLE, I WENT OUT TO START THE CAR AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES OF IT SITTING AFTER 40 MINUTES OF MIXED COMMUTING AND THE CAR COULD NOT KEEP AN IDLE. IT STALLED ON ME 3 TIMES AND FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO SHAKE ITSELF TO PIECES. I FINALLY GOT IT STARTED BY HOLDING DOWN THE THROTTLE AND I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR. IT WAS 60-63 DEGREES OUT ON APRIL 3RD, 2014 IN SOUTHEASTERN CT WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED. THE PROBLEM ALSO SEEMS TO GET WORSE AS THE AIR TEMPERATURE INCREASES. *TR

WE'VE HAVE HAD TAKEN IT TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS TO NO AVAIL. I'VE TRIED TO CALL FORD MOTOR CO DIRECTLY, THAT WAS A JOKE. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE SPECIALIST WOULD NOT LISTEN OR LET ME TALK. THEY STATED LAST TIME THAT SHE NEEDS A NEW CLUTCH, WHICH IS BACKORDERED. WHICH BRINGS UP A RED FLAG!!! MY HUSBAND WORKS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE PARTS FIELD AND STATED YOU CAN GET A COMPLETE NEW TRANSMISSION IN A COUPLE OF DAYS HOWEVER WE CAN'T GET A CLUTCH???? THIS IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE WE HAVE HAD BUT THESE ARE THE ONES WITH THE POWER TRAIN.
I JUST BOUGHT THIS BRAND NEW 2013 FORD FOCUS TITANIUM ON FRIDAY 10/25/2013 AND IT HAD 107 MILES. I DROVE AROUND YESTERDAY. WHILE GETTING ON RAMP TO 85 SOUTH FREEWAY FROM FREMONT BLVD, I HEARD THIS LOUD RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE, AS I ACCELERATED THE NOISE GREW LOUDER. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT CONTINUING AND EXISTED AT THE NEXT EXIT. DROVE TO A SMALL STREET, DRIVING SLOWLY TO SEE WHAT THE NOISE WAS. THERE I WERE, EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE, YOU CAN HEAR THE RATTLE. THIS IS BRAND NEW CAR. I WENT ONLINE ALL NIGHT LAST NIGHT AND SURPRISINGLY, THERE ARE SOME MANY SIMILAR CAR OWNERS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH NEW 2012-2013 FORD FOCUS. I'M TAKING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER BUT I CAN SEE SO MUCH HEADACHE AHEAD TO GET THIS FIXED. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID MORE FUTURE CAR OWNERS OF FORD FOCUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND MOVED FORWARD. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM COULD NOT BE ACTIVATED WITH THE NAVIGATIONAL BUTTON AND THE SPEEDOMETER PROVIDED TWO DIFFERENT SPEED READINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,633.
CAR: FORD FOCUS EV (ALL ELECTRIC) - SECOND REPORT ON NHTSA WEBSITE ON THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE FAILURE: INCIDENT: WHILE BACKING OUT OF PACKING SPACE IN COSTCO PARKING, I STARTED TO SHIFT FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE. ALL OF SUDDEN, THE CAR SHUT DOWN AND HAD COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. I COULD NOT MOVE THE AUTO TRANSMISSION SHIFTER OUT OF THE (N) NEUTRAL POSITION. THE WEIRD THING WAS THAT AS YOU LOOKED AT THE DASH BOARD PANEL, IT SAID THE CAR WAS IN (P) BUT THE SHIFTER WAS PHYSICALLY IN NEUTRAL AND THE CAR ACTED AS IF IN PARK (WHEELS IN GEAR - CAN'T PUSH IT). THE CAR HAD NO POWER AND I WAS STRANDED IN THE PARKING LOT LANE BETWEEN PARKING STALLS. I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND FRITZ FORD IN RIVERSIDE, CA (WHERE I RECENTLY BOUGHT THE VEHICLE). FRITZ CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO GET THE CAR AND MY HUSBAND CAME TO PICK ME UP. BEING THAT THE FOCUS EV IS NEW, THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER WAS A LITTLE CONFUSED ON HOW TO GET IT ON THE TRUCK AS THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS LOCKED IN NEUTRAL. FRITZ STILL HAS THE CAR AFTER 5 DAYS CLAIMING THERE IS NO ISSUE WITH IT. HMM? *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V495000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE PREVIOUSLY OCCURRED IN 2014 AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
MY VEHICLE HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING, AND ONCE I DID GET IT STARTED, I COULD NOT PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. THE REVERSE GEAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE ON THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE CAR COULD OPERATE IN THE FORWARD DIRECTION, HOWEVER, ISSUES WERE NOTED WHEN THE CAR CHANGED GEARS (FROM 1ST TO 2ND, AND 2ND TO 3RD) EVEN THOUGH IT'S AN AUTOMATIC. RATTLING SOUNDS WE'RE HEARD AS THE CAR LURCHED INTO THE NEXT GEAR. AFTER 80 MILES OR SO, THE DISPLAY SAID TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND WAIT 9 MINUTES FOR TRANSMISSION TO COOL. AFTER WAITING, CAR HAD ISSUES STARTING, AND SAME PROBLEMS PERSISTED. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. *TR
AFTER COASTING AROUND A CORNER AT 30MPH I PRESSED ACCELERATOR AND THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AND THEN CAUGHT AND THE CAR LAUNCHED FORWARD. IT DID THIS THREE TIMES AND NOW ITS MAKING A GRINDING NOISE. *TR
THE VEHICLE STUTTERS, JERKS, AND STALLS IN LOW GEARS. WHEN WE PRESS THE GAS FROM A STATIONARY POSITION THE CAR FAILS TO MOVE FORWARD ON MANY OCCASIONS. IF IT DOES MOVE FORWARD THEN THE GEARS MAKE A GRINDING SOUND. IT POSES A RISK TO US WHEN WE HAVE TO MOVE ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY ON LEFT HAND TURNS AT STOPLIGHTS WHEN WE HAVE A YIELD SIGN. THE CAR HAS STALLED OUT ON A FEW OCCASIONS LEAVING US VULNERABLE TO CARS TRAVELING AT HIGH VELOCITIES TOWARDS US. THIS IS AN UNSAFE CAR AND WE PLAN TO HOLD FORD ACCOUNTABLE FOR HUMAN AND PROPERTY DAMAGE SHOULD IT OCCUR DUE TO THIS DEFECT. *TR
CAR JERKS ALOT! ALWAYS JERKING AT LOW SPEEDS AND USUALLY THROUGH GEARS 1-4. VERY UNRELIABLE IN CITY DRIVING AND FEELS VERY UNSAFE. I TOTALLY REGRET PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE. TAKEN IT SEVERAL TIMES TO THE FORD CAMELBACK IN PHX AZ AND THEY JUST SAY ITS THE WAY THE MANUFACTURE BUILT THE CAR AND HOW THE CAR IS ABLE TO SAVE GAS. FORD NEEDS TO RECOGNIZE THIS PROBLEM AND GIVE FORD OWNERS A BREAK. *TR
