WHILE DRIVING MY FORD FOCUS IT "STUTTERED", I.E. WHILE I WAS PUSHING ON THE GAS THE VEHICLE STOPPED RESPONDING AND JERKED AS THOUGH I HAD SHIFTED TO A LOWER GEAR. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPENED BEFORE, BUT DIDN'T REALLY PAY ATTENTION TO IT UNTIL THE 15 OCT. INCIDENT. I MENTIONED IT TO MY WIFE WHO ALSO JUST BOUGHT A FORD FOCUS 2013 MODEL AND SHE CONFIRMED HER VEHICLE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. SEVERAL GOOGLE SEARCHES LATER I FOUND OUT THAT NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING THESE ELECTRONIC PROPULSION TRANSMISSION FAILURES. PLEASE ADD OUR TWO VEHICLES TO THIS REPORT. THANK YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE, SURGED FORWARD, AND THE TRANSMISSION WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V813000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WAS DRIVING UP MY DRIVEWAY WHICH IS FAIRLY STEEP, THE ENGINE SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR (IT'S AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) AND STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS DOWN THE HILL, THE ENGINE WAS REVVING/REDLINING AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. I QUICKLY APPLIED THE BRAKES, AND STEPPED ON THE GAS. THE CAR WAS STILL NOT IN GEAR AND CONTINUED TO ROLL BACK, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AGAIN, AND THEN THE GAS AT WHICH POINT THE CAR SHOT FORWARD, LUCKY THAT I WAS FAR ENOUGH AWAY FROM THE GARAGE OR ANY OBJECTS AND REMAINED IN GEAR WHEN I PULLED INTO THE GARAGE. THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME ON FLAT GROUND IN A PARKING LOT ONE DAY. THE LURCH WAS LESS, BUT THE CAR STILL SHOT FORWARD FASTER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE, ANOTHER INSTANCE WHERE I WAS LUCKY THAT THERE WERE NO PEDESTRIANS/CARS/OBJECTS TO RUN INTO. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS AND A LIABILITY. *TR
VEHICLE STOPS MIDDLE OF NO WHERE ABRUPTLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO PROPERLY ACCELERATE WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED WITH GREAT FORCE TO GAIN ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER MORE THAN FIVE TIMES FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER REBUILT THE CLUTCH AND UPDATED THE SOFTWARE, BUT THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY AND PRODUCED A GRINDING NOISE WHEN THE GEARS WERE CHANGED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
TRAVELING AT 40 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND CAR SLOWED AND ONLY REVVED. STOP AT STOP SIGNED, TRIED TO ACCELERATE ENGINE ONLY REVVED THEN TRANSMISSION ENGAGED AND CAR JERKED. THIS CONTINUED THE 3 MILES LEFT TO MY HOUSE. *TR
IN OCTOBER OF 2012 I PURCHASED A NEW 2013 FORD FOCUS SE. WITH LESS THAN 100 MILES ON THE CAR I NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE WHEN THE CAR WAS SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD ROLL BACKWARDS IN EXCESS OF TWO FEET WHEN ENGAGING THE ACCELERATOR FROM A STILL POSITION ON AN EMBANKMENT. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND UPON EXAMINATION I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A "NORMAL AND EXPECTED" RESULT WITH FORDS NEW TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 32,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT ONLY GRINDING WHEN SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR IT IS ALSO SLIPPING!! WHILE SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR THE CAR NOW LURCHES! FORD SERVICE ONCE AGAIN HAS THE VEHICLE IN AN ATTEMPT TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS CAR AS IN THE PAST YEAR IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP OVER 5 TIMES WITH THIS ISSUE AND NO RESOLVE. THESE ISSUES POSE A SAFETY RISK TO ALL DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY NEEDS TO ADDRESS THESE ISSUES!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SHE DROVE AT 70 MPH, THE PLACE TRANSMISSION IN PARK WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED THEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO JERK, AND DECELERATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION AFTER A MINUTE. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A CLICKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN REPROGRAMMED THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION SOFT WEAR, REPLACED THE CLUTCH AND REPAIRED A MAJOR ELECTRICAL FAULTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,676.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND STALLED CONTINUOUSLY AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES AND THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPROGRAMMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. UPDATED 03/04/15*LJ UPDATED 6/15/2015 *JS
CAR WILL SLIP CHANGING GEARS WHEN ACCELERATING CAUSING A PAUSE/JERK THAT COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MANY OCCASIONS WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC OR MAKING A TURN. WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE 5 TIMES THIS PAST YEAR. TWICE THEY HAVE REPLACED THE CLUTCH AND 3 TIMES DID AN UPDATE. EACH TIME TELLING US TO GIVE IT 500-1000 MILES TO SETTLE IN. IT ONLY TAKES ONE TIME FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN. LOOKING AT PAPERWORK AND FOUND OUT THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED A COUPLE OF MONTHS BEFORE PURCHASE DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEM. WE ARE THE SECOND OWNERS AND SINCE BUYING IT "USED" (10,000+) WE CANNOT FILE LEMON LAW.
I HAVE OWNED THIS FORD FOCUS FOR APPROX. 1 YEAR. 10 MONTHS INTO OWNING IT, I NOTICED THE CAR WOULD SHUDDER WHEN I WAS DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS, OR PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY WHICH HAS A SLIGHT INCLINE. THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL UNLESS I GAVE IT A LOT OF GAS TO KEEP IT MOVING. THERE IS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK OF THIS I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER, A TECH. RODE WITH ME AND AGREED IT WAS SHUDDERING AND MAKING GRINDING NOISES. THEY SAID THIS WAS COMMON IN THIS VEHICLE, BUT THEY HAD A FIX FOR IT. THEY RESET THE TRANSMISSION STRATEGY AND SAID IT SHOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. WITHIN A WEEK THE SAME THING STARTED ALL OVER, THE JERKING, THE GRINDING NOISE WAS LOUDER THAN EVER AND MORE CHRONIC. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP THAT HAD RESET THE TRANSMISSION. AGAIN A TECH DROVE IT, CONFIRMED MY CONCERNS. I WAS INFORMED FORD WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIRS ON MY VEHICLE, AND THAT THE GRINDING IS "NORMAL CLUTCH RATCHET NOISE". I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR THIS TIME, EXPLAINED MY CONCERNS. I WAITED FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS WHILE THEY INSPECTED MY CAR. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY CAR WAS OPERATING NORMALLY, AND NO FURTHER REPAIRS WOULD BE AUTHORIZED BY FORD. THE SERVICE CONSULTANT TOLD ME THERE WERE FIVE OTHER CUSTOMERS AHEAD OF ME FOR CLUTCH REPLACEMENTS FOR THE SAME KIND OF ISSUE I AM HAVING. HE STATED THE CLUTCHES WERE ON BACK ORDER DUE TO THE HIGH NUMBER OF PROBLEMS WITH THESE VEHICLES. TALKED TO THE REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER TODAY, SHE TOLD ME FORD WAS ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR MECHANICAL FAILURES. HER WORDS TO ME WERE THAT I WOULD HAVE TO "LIVE WITH THE GRINDING NOISE, THE SHUDDERING AND JERKING."WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I GET REAR ENDED AT A STOP LIGHT BECAUSE MY CAR SHUDDERS AT LOW SPEEDS AND TAKES OFF SLOWLY?" 3 TIMES IN FOR SERVICE WITHIN 30 DAYS. NO HELP FROM FORD! *TR
VEHICLE WARNING "STOP SAFELY NOW" APPEARED AND THE EV LOST ALL ITS MOTIVE POWER AND STALLED. REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE FAILED.
CAR:2013 FORD FOCUS EV. NOTICED "STOP SAFELY NOW" LIGHT ON AT STOP LIGHT JUST AFTER EXITING FREEWAY OFF WINCHESTER RD IN TEMECULA, CA. WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE TO GET ONTO WINCHETER ROAD TRAVELING WEST GOING DOWN HILL AND NERVOUSLY COASTED DOWN HILL NOTICING THE STEERING BECOMING DIFFICULT. THANKFULLY THE LEFT TURN LIGHT WAS GREEN SO I WAS ABLE TO COAST THRU THE INTERSECTION AND GET ON JEFFERSON ROAD. I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, HOWEVER, THE CAR WAS UNRESPONSIVE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO THE FIRST AVAILABLE PARKING LOT OFF OF JEFFERSON ROAD - POLLO LOCO PARKING LOT AND TURNED VEHICLE OFF. CALL HUSBAND TO COME GET ME. HE TURNED VEHICLE ON WITHOUT INCIDENT AND DROVE IT HOME WITH OUT ISSUE. WORKING WITH DEALER FOR NEXT STEPS. CALL FRITTS FORD AS I TALKED TO DANIEL IN SERVICE AND HE REPORTED THAT ANOTHER FOCUS EV OWNER JUST REPORTED TEH SAME ISSUE AND WAS ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP ON SATURDAY, 21.SEPT. THIS PROBLEM IS PERHAPS MUCH BIGGER THAN WE THINK?! FYI: DEALERSHIP = FRITTS FORD, RIVERSIDE, CA CAR PURCHASED ON SUNDAY, 15.SEPT.2013. OWED THE CAR FOR 6 DAYS.
THIS APPLIES TO A FORD FOCUS ELECTRIC, NOT A GASOLINE MODEL. WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN "STOP SAFELY NOW" INDICATOR APPEARED. VEHICLE SLOWED AND CAME TO STOP WITHIN A FEW SECONDS WHILE STILL IN TRAFFIC LANES. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND SWITCHED THE SYSTEM OFF, THEN ON AGAIN. IT STARTED NORMALLY AND DROVE NORMALLY FOR APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES WHILE I WENT HOME. THERE IS NO APPARENT VALID REASON FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP ITSELF. UNDER OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES THIS COULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. CHECKING REPORTS ON THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON, AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED REPEATED OCCURANCES OF THIS PROBLEM. WEATHER AT THE TIME WAS MODERATE (70 TO 75 DEGREES F). THIS IS A NEW CAR (TWO WEEKS OLD, APPROXIMATELY 1350 MILES) WHILE I DON'T SUGGEST THAT THE FOLLOWING ARE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS, I LIST THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE UNUSUAL FOR ME AND THIS MAY BE HELPFUL TO REVIEWERS LOOKING FOR COMMON CIRCUMSTANCES: 1. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN GIVEN A LEVEL 1 (120 VOLT) CHARGE EARLIER IN THE DAY, BRINGING THE STATE OF CHARGE FROM APPROXIMATELY 60% TO 70%. THIS IS UNUSUAL BECAUSE I USUALLY USE LEVEL 2 (240 VOLT) CHARGING. 2, THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SWITCHED "ON" WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER OPERATING FOR ABOUT AN HOUR BUT WITHOUT DRIVING ANYWHERE. THE PROBLEM OCCURED SHORTLY THEREAFTER, AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY TWO MILES. 3, NO OTHER UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES WERE NOTED. CAR DROVE NORMALLY BEFORE AND AFTER THIS INCIDENT.
DRIVING INTO WORK ONE MORNING, I WAS FOLLOWING BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED, ALMOST TO A STOP WHEN I THEN TURNED INTO A PARKING SPOT, PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACCELERATE SO I THEN PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AT A MUCH FASTER SPEED THAN USUAL AND THE VEHICLE SLAMMED INTO THE WALL OF THE PARKING STRUCTURE IN THE SPACE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK IN. ON OTHER OCCASIONS BEFORE THIS, I HAD EXPERIENCED HESITATION WHILE PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL BUT NOTHING LIKE WHAT HAPPENED THE MORNING THAT THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD, HITTING THE CEMENT WALL IN THE PARKING STRUCTURE. *JS
THIS IS FOR THE FORD FOCUS ELECTRIC. I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD GOING APPROX 50 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST POWER AND HAD NO ACCELERATION A MESSAGE CAME ON THE DISPLAY THAT SAID STOP SAFELY NOW IN RED WITH A EXCLAMATION POINT INSIDE A TRIANGLE AT THAT POINT I WAS A HAZARD TO OTHER DRIVERS AS THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWING DOWN AS I WAS TRYING TO MERGE TO THE RIGHT HAND SIDE. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO STOP AND I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. I LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE AND TRIED TO RESTART AND IT WOULD NOT, I TRIED A SECOND TIME AND IT FINALLY CAME UP READY TO GO. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE TO THE SERVICE DEPT IN THE MORNING. THIS WAS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. *TR
TRAVELING AT APPROX. 35 M.P.H. ON COUNTY ROAD, PULL OVER SAFELY LIGHT CAME ON, UNABLE TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY DUE TO TRAFFIC, TRAVELED A SHORT DISTANCE IN ATTEMPT TO FIND A SHOULDER TO PULL ONTO, CAR DIED IN A CURVE. NO POWER AT ALL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE CAR QUIT RUNNING AND DISPLAYED "STOP SAFELY NOW". *TR
THIS IS REGARDING FORD FOCUS ELECTRIC VEHICLE 2013 MODEL. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAS HAPPENED. WHILE DRIVING IT SUDDENLY BEEPS AND DISPLAYS MESSAGE "STOP SAFELY NOW" AND CAR JUST STALLS AND STOPS RUNNING. QUITE DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS BEEN TO FORD DEALERSHIP AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE AND AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS THAT I GOT BACK THE VEHICLE, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT IS AGAIN IN THE SERVICE CENTER OF FORD DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY STILL DO NOT KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENS OR WHAT IS THE FIX. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY FORD ASAP AS IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
FOR A FEW MONTHS PRIOR I HAD NOTICED A SHUTTERING STUTTERING TYPE FEELING WHEN COASTING OR AT AT STOP, ALMOST LIKE THE CAR WAS GOING TO STALL. ON 9/13 I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC GOING UP A HILL INTO A DODGER GAME WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN A WARNING POPPED UP ON THE SCREEN INFORMING ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD OVERHEATED AND I NEEDED TO PULL OVER, STOP THE CAR AND WAIT FOR 8 MINUTES. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE CAR TO PULL OVER THE ENGINE WOULD REV BUT THE CAR DIDN'T MOVE, THEN IT STARTED DOING LARGE LURCHES FORWARD. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET OUT OF THE TRAFFIC AND MOVE THE CAR TO SAFETY WITHOUT FURTHER ENDANGERING MYSELF, MY PASSENGERS, AND THE OTHER VEHICLES AROUND ME. THE SMELL WAS SO BAD I ACTUALLY GOT OUT OF THE CAR AT ONE POINT THINKING IT MIGHT EXPLODE. THIS WENT ON FOR ABOUT HALF AN HOUR AS I TRIED TO GET TO SAFETY. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR REPAIRS THE NEXT MORNING AND IT WAS IN THE SHOP FOR A WEEK. I GOT IT BACK AND COULD TELL THERE WAS STILL SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE THE SHAKING WAS NOW SO BAD I WOULD GET MOTION SICK ANYTIME THE CAR WAS AT A STOP. 5 DAYS AFTER PICKING IT UP I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP. AGAIN, THEY HAD THE CAR FOR A WEEK. AFTER PICKING IT UP, THREE DAYS LATER I WAS AGAIN PULLING INTO DODGER STADIUM AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. TRANSMISSION OVER HEATED, LURCHING AS I TRY TO PULL OVER TO SAFETY AND A TERRIBLE SMELL COMING FROM THE CAR. THE CAR IS BACK IN THE SHOP AGAIN, BUT I FEEL THAT MY SAFETY IS THREATENED AND I DO NOT WANT THIS CAR BACK. IN 23 DAYS, THE CAR HAS HAD TO GO INTO THE SHOP 3 TIMES, FOR A TOTAL OF 15 DAYS SO FAR. *TR

I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AT APPROXIMATELY 15MPH AND NOTICED THE STOP SAFELY NOW ICON ALERTING ON THE DASH. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP THE VEHICLE. I PURCHASED MY 2013 FOCUS TITANIUM, AUTO TRANSMISSION, IN SEPTEMBER 2013. AFTER A FEW DAYS, I NOTICED HESITATION/SHUDDERING, JERKING, AND GRINDING WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STAND-STILL/"OFF THE LINE" AS WELL AS WHEN THE CAR WAS DOWNSHIFTING FROM HIGHER GEARS. I CALLED MY DEALER, NAZARETH FORD IN NAZARETH, PA, TO REPORT THE ISSUE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS WAS "NORMAL" FOR THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH IS A "MANUAL AUTOMATIC" TRANSMISSION. I WAS SKEPTICAL, BUT I WAS ADVISED TO DRIVE 500 MILES AND SEE IF THE PROBLEM CORRECTED ITSELF. I WAS DISCOURAGED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, SINCE THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE "NORMAL" AND I HAD NOT REACHED 500 MILES YET TO SEE IF IT WOULD IMPROVE. IT NEVER DID AND HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. LAST WEEK AFTER ALMOST A YEAR AND 17,500 MILES WITH NO IMPROVEMENT, I WAS FED UP. I CALLED THE DEALER TO MAKE AN AN APPOINTMENT. THE DEALER KEPT THE CAR TWO DAYS AND REPORTED THAT THEY REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION. I PICKED THE CAR UP LAST SATURDAY AND AFTER 15 MINUTES OR LESS, THE ISSUES RETURNED. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AGAIN AND THE PERSON DID NOT RETURN MY PHONE CALL. I VISITED IN PERSON AND WAS ADVISED AGAIN THAT I SHOULD DRIVE ANOTHER 500 MILES SO THE REPROGRAM COULD TAKE EFFECT. THE DEALER COMMENTED THAT A NUMBER OF CUSTOMERS HAVE COME BACK FOR PREMATURE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENTS, WHICH DID NOT LEAVE ME WITH A GREAT FEELING. THIS ISSUE HAS PROVED TO BE POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS, SUCH AS COMING TO A STOP AT THE END OF AN INTERSECTION, RED LIGHT, OR HIGHWAY RAMP BEFORE ACCELERATING BACK UP TO SPEED AND CLIMBING ANY SORT OF HILL. JERKING AND GRINDING PREVENTS THE CAR FROM ACCELERATING SMOOTHLY. WHILE I AM OTHERWISE HAPPY WITH THE FEATURES OF THE CAR, THIS IS A DEAL-BREAKER. AS SOON AS WE PULLED OUT FROM DEALER ONTO HIGHWAY, STARTED MAKING RATTLING NOISE AND SHUTTERING STILL HAPPENING.. NOW DEALER HAS AN ACTUATOR MOTOR ORDERED. FURTHER, THE SYNC SOFTWARE DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. - WHILE IN DRIVE AND MOVING FORWARD AT 55 MPH THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND NO POWER WAS TRANSMITTED TO THE WHEELS OF THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS ALSO HAPPENED AT 15 MPH GOING AROUND A TURN FOR 4 SECONDS BEFORE POWER TO THE WHEELS RESUMED. DURING THESE TWO OCCURRENCES THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AND BEHAVING AS IF THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL. - AFTER BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND IT MOVED FORWARD AS EXPECTED ABOUT 2 FEET AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN ROLLING BACKWARDS. THE TRANSMISSIONS WOULD NOT ENGAGE UNTIL 4 ATTEMPTS OF PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND STOPPING AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. - ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE TRANSMISSION WOULD RAPIDLY SHIFT UP AND DOWN WHILE MOVING FORWARD BETWEEN 5 AND 40 MILES PER HOUR. BY RAPIDLY, I MEAN IT WAS SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF GEARS AT A RATE OF ABOUT 4 SHIFTS PER SECOND. THIS RESULTED IN ERRATIC SPEED AT CONGESTED INTERSECTIONS AS WELL AS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY AND REGULAR ROADS. - ON 2 OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AT ALL. THIS IS MOST LIKELY RELATED TO THE BEFORE MENTIONED ISSUES BECAUSE THE CAR WAS CONFUSED AND THOUGHT IT WAS IN GEAR. - SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO LAG AND THEN LURCH. - 1ST GEAR WAS MUSHY WHEN TAKING OFF THEN WOULD SUDDENLY LURCH. THESE ARE SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS. THE DEALERSHIP FOUND FLUID ON THE CLUTCH PADS AND MOST LIKELY ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE SENSORS IN THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. FULL CLUTCH ASSEMBLY AND SHAFT SEAL REPLACEMENT IS BEING PERFORMED BY DEALER. VEHICLE IS ONLY 4 MONTHS OLD WITH ABOUT 4K MILES. *TR

LUCKILY A CAR STOPPED AND HAD THEIR HAZARD LIGHTS ON. SINCE THEN OUR CAR FUEL HAS DECREASED TO 12 MPG IN THE CITY AND 22 ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN YOU TAKE OFF CAR BOGS DOWN AND YOU HAVE TO MASH HARD ON THE GAS TO GET IT TO MOVE. THE IDLE IS ROUGH AND YOU CAN FEEL IT RUNNING ROUGH. WE HAVE HAD IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP FIVE TIMES AND SINCE CAR DOES NOT CODE THEY WILL NOT WORK ON IT PER FORD'S POLICY. THUS, WE HAVE THAT FORD HAS ADVERTISED WILL GET 28 IN THE CITY AND 40 ON THE HIGHWAY WHICH WE DID GET THE FIRST MONTH BEFORE IT DIED ON THE HIGHWAY. SINCE THEN WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE USING CRUISE ON A TRIP. *TR
THIS VEHICLE SHUTTERS, JERKS AT EACH STOP. IT FEELS LIKE IT GETS NO POWER WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL. SOMETIMES ITS LIGHT SHUTTERING/JERKING, OTHER TIMES ITS VIOLENT SHUTTERING AND JERKING TO THE POINT WHERE IT JERKS SO BAD THE CAR SHUTS OFF. WE HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY KEEP TELLING US ITS A "GREEN CLUTCH" AND JUST KEEP DRIVING IT TO GET IT BROKEN IN. WE DO NOT SEE AN IMPROVEMENT OVER AFTER A WEEK OF DAILY DRIVING. WE HAVE VISITED MANY SITES AND REALIZE THERE ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO PURCHASED A 2012,2013 FORD FOCUS HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TT
I WENT AND TRADED IN MY MUSTANG FOR SOMETHING WITH BETTER GAS MILEAGE WHICH ENDED UP BEING A 2013 FORD FOCUS (MANUAL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE FIRST ONE I GOT WAS IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES FOR GRINDING NOISES WHEN IT TRIED TO SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE FIRST TIME THEY BARELY HAD IT A DAY AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE SECOND THROUGH THE REST OF THE TIMES I HAD IT OUT THERE THEY JUST REBOOTED THE COMPUTER AND SAID IT IS FINE AND WILL BE FINE. NOT EVEN TWO DAYS LATER I WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND COULD GET THE CAR TO MOVE. I BARELY MADE 3 PAYMENTS ON THAT CAR. I KEPT TELLING THEM THIS WAS A LEMON AND THEY WOULDN'T TAKE IT BACK. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THE LADY I TALKED TO SAID "WELL MY SONS FOCUS HASN'T BEEN GIVING HIM ANY TROUBLE. THAT MADE ME REALLY PISSY. I TOLD THE LADY I DIDN'T CARE ABOUT HER SONS CAR YOU SHOULD FIX MINE. I WENT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY HAD ANOTHER FOCUS THAT DIDN'T HAVE THE "MANUAL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION" AND THEY DID SO I GOT THAT ONE INSTEAD OF THE PIECE OF CRAP I HAD. NOW I HAVE NOT EVEN MADE A SINGLE PAYMENT ON THIS NEW CAR AND IT IS DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. THEY KEEP TELLING ME THIS IS NORMAL. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FOCUS OR FORD AGAIN. AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT, AN ALERT CAME ON INSTRUCTING ME TO "STOP SAFELY NOW!" AND THE POWER TRAIN LOST ALL POWER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE STOP SAFELY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,900.
STOP SAFELY NOW (SSN) CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING 45 MPH. THIS CAUSED POWER TO BE CUT AND WOULD NOT ALLOW ANY FURTHER DRIVING OF THE CAR, WHICH ONLY ALLOWED FOR COASTING TO A STOP WHILE IN TRAFFIC. *TR
THIS IS AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE. WHILE APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION, THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" LIGHT CAME ON. I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, BUT REALIZED I HAD NO POWER. I COASTED TO A STOP AT THE CURB. THERE WAS A HAZARD SYMBOL DISPLAYED, BUT I COULD NOT BRING UP ANY OTHER INFORMATION TO GIVE A CLUE WHAT MIGHT BE BEHIND THE PROBLEM. I NOTED THE GREEN VEHICLE SYMBOL LIGHT WAS OFF, INDICATING POWER IS NOT AVAILABLE TO THE DRIVE TRAIN. I TRIED DOING DIFFERENT THINGS TO RESTART THE CAR, BUT ALL ATTEMPTS FAILED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER. AFTER THE CAR WAS ROLLED BACKWARDS OFF THE TOW-TRUCK FLATBED, I TRIED ONCE AGAIN TO START THE CAR. IT STARTED RIGHT UP, AS IF NOTHING HAD BEEN WRONG. *TR
IN AUGUST 2013 AFTER OWNING CAR SHORT TIME TOOK TO DEALER AND SERVICE MANAGER DROVE IT WITH US AND SAID MANY PEOPLE THINK THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH SHUDDERING AND DELAYED ACCELERATION BUT IT'S JUST THE HIGH PERFORMANCE TRANSMISSION.. NOT TO WORRY. THE CAR CONTINUALLY GOT WORSE OVER TIME AND WE GOT A RECALL NOTICE AND TOOK IN IN OCT 2014. THEY REPLACED THE CLUTCH AND SEALS. MAY 5 THE CAR GOT REALLY BACK ON LONG DRIVE HOME FROM LA. OVERHEATED AND THEN WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON WARNING LIGHT WENT OFF AND DROVE CAR HOME SHUDDERING VERY BAD AND WITH EXTREME DELAYED ACCELERATION. HAD CARS BEHIND US ON HILLS HONKING AND ALMOST REAR ENDED US... TOOK CAR IN MAY 15 THEY SAID IT WASN'T SAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY HAD IT FOR 2 MONTHS TO FIX CLUTCH, SEALS AND ADAPTIVE LEARNING SENSOR, REPLACED TCM, ELECTRONICS. 8/8/15 WHILE ON FREEWAY STEERING ASSIST FAULT NOTIFICATION - SERVICE REQUIRED. PULLED OFF AND WHEN I TRIED TO START CAR AGAIN I COULDN'T MOVE THE STEERING COLUMN. CALLED NEARBY FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID YOU CAN'T DRIVE IT - SAFETY ISSUE. IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AGAIN. HAVING THIS HAPPEN ON A FREEWAY IS TERRIFYING - CARS HONKING AT YOU, TRYING TO STEER OFF, ETC. THIS IS A DANGER AND FORD NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF IT INSTEAD OF CONTINUING TO DO TEMP FIXES!!!!!
THIS IS ACTUALLY THE 3RD TIME IN A MONTH THIS OCCURRED. THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" WARNING COMES UP. 1ST TIME ON 7/29, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART, AND THE WRENCH SYMBOL DISPLAYED. TURNED OFF AND TRIED AGAIN 5 MINUTES LATER, AND THE CAR WORKED FINE. THE NEXT DAY, THE CAR GAVE NO NOTICE AS I MOVED TO ACCELERATE AT A GREEN LIGHT. A CLUNK, AND NO POWER, AND THE "STOP SAFELY" NOW WARNED OCCURRED AT THE SAME TIME. I TURNED THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON, A PEDESTRIAN ASSISTED ME IN PUSHING THE CAR OUT OF THE TRAFFIC. IT RESTARTED 5 MINUTES LATER, I DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER DID THE SOFTWARE UPDATE. AFTER WAITING OVER 2 WEEKS FOR THE CAR, THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" OCCURRED AGAIN 5 DAYS AFTER BEING RELEASED FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG IT WILL TO TAKE TO FIX THE ISSUE. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR, KNOWING THE POWER CAN BE DISABLED ANYWHERE AT ANY TIME. I HOPE FORD TAKES THESE ISSUES SERIOUSLY. *TR
