FIRST INCIDENT ...WAS MAKING A TURN FROM A STOP POSITION AND CAR HESITATED(TRANSMISSION). SECOND INCIDENT .. PARKED CAR ON AN INCLINE AND CAR ROLLED BACK ENOUGH TO HAVE SOMEBODY BEHIND ME CALL IT TO MY ATTENTION. THIRD INCIDENT ? GOING UP ON MY DRIVEWAY THE CAR HESITATED AND SHAKES A LOT WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP POSITION. NOTE= WHEN MY WIFE DROVE THE CAR ON A TEST RUN.. NONE OF THIS PROBLEMS SHOWED UP. THAT IS BECAUSE THE ROUTE WE TOOK WAS ALL ON FLAT SURFACES(IN FLORIDA). WE BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE FORD DEALERSHIP, AND THEY HANDED US A PAMPHLET, THAT EXPLAINED TO US THAT WE DID NOT REALLY BUY A CAR WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, IT IS A STANDARD TRANSMISSION WITH SOME KIND OF GEAR SET UP TO SHIFT AS IF IT IS AN AUTOMATIC. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO TOLD US TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER IF WE WANTED TO MAKE A COMPLAIN. WE HAVE A TWO YEAR WARRANTY, BUT I AM THINKING THAT WE MIGHT HAVE SOME TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS A LOT SOONER, BUT WHO WANTS TO DRIVE A NEW CAR WITH THAT PROBLEM PENDING OVER YOUR HEAD. I HOPE THAT WE ALL COMPLAIN LOUD ENOUGH FOR FORD TO TAKE SOME IMMEDIATE ACTION, AND COME UP WITH A SATISFACTORY SOLUTION. *TR
DURING A ROAD TRIP WHILE ON A HIGHWAY ONRAMP GOING MOSTLY STRAIGHT AT GRADUAL ACCELERATION, EXPERIENCED COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE COMPUTER SYSTEM, BEGINNING WITH ERRATIC CHANGING OF GEARS ROCKING ME BACK AND FORTH IN MY SEAT, TO INFOTAINMENT DISPLAY SHUTDOWN, TO ENGINE STOPPING. HAD TO EXIT HIGHWAY AND 'REBOOT' THE SYSTEM TO CONTINUE TRAVELLING. AFTER INITIAL REPAIRS, STILL EXPERIENCED HARSH GEAR SHIFTS UP TO AND INCLUDING PRESENT DAY. GEAR SHIFTS COULD EASILY AFFECT THE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. TO MY UNDERSTANDING, THE FAULT IS HOW THE COMPUTER USES THE DUAL-CLUTCH SYSTEM TO SHIFT GEARS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT AT TIMES, THE CAR DID NOT KNOW WHAT GEAR IT WAS IN. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE RECALLS REGARDING THESE ISSUES WITH THIS AND OTHER FORD MODELS WITH THIS CLUTCH SYSTEM. THERE ARE OTHER WORK REPORTS, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO FIT THEM WITHIN YOUR UPLOAD LIMITATIONS.
SINCE THE FOCUS WAS FIRST DROVE THERE HAS BEEN A SHUTTER,A NOISE COMING FROM WHAT WE THIN IS THE TRANSMISSION. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR IN NY AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE AND TOLD US THAT THE CAR NEEDED TO BE DRIVE AND SHOULD STOP THIS AT A 1000 MI. MOVED TO AR TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID IT WAS UNDER RECALL? THAT THE CAR NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED CONCERNING DRIVETRAIN. TOOK IT BACK 2 OTHER TIMES WAS TOLD THE CAR HADN'T BEEN DRIVEN ENOUGH FOR THE PROGRAM TO TAKE EFFECT. NOW THE AUTOMOBILE HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE .IT NOW SHUTTER,DECREASES IN POWER,AND CONSIDER DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. TOOK CAR IN AGAIN TO DEALERSHIP.ALSO CONTACTED FORD CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND INFORMED OF PROBLEM. CUSTOMER REP GAVE ME A NUMBER FOR MY CASE AND STATED MY ISSUES WILL BE ASSESSED. *TR
THE SAME AFTERNOON AFTER PICKING UP MY NEW CAR I NOTICED JERKINESS WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP TO AROUND 30 MPH. I BLEW IT OFF AND THOUGHT THEY MAYBE IT WAS BAD GAS THAT WAS MAKING CAR RUN FUNNY. IT ONLY GOT WORSE FROM THERE. SO BAD I WAS SCARED TO EVEN PULL ONTO A HIGHWAY CAUSE IT WOULD ACT AS THO IT WAS GOING TO STALL OUT. THEN I STARTED NOTICING NOISES KIND OF A GRINDING NOISE ALONG WITH THE HARD SHIFTING. I TOOK IT IN A DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS NORMAL AND GIVE TRANSMISSION TIME TO GET " USE TO HOW I DRIVE" THE STUPIDEST THING I'VE EVER HEARD. NEEDLESS TO SAY MY NEW CAR IS IN SHOP FOR HOWEVER LONG. I'M NOT SURE I EVEN WANT IT BACK FROM ALL THE OTHER HORROR STORIES I'VE READ. SOME CATCHING FIRE AND SUCH. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS VEHICLE AND PUT A NORMAL TRANSMISSION BACK INTO IT BEFORE SOMETHING SERIOUS HAPPENS TO SOMEONE. *TR
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
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATED PEDAL WOULD BECOME STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY. IN ADDITION, THE RPMS EXHIBITED ABNORMAL READINGS. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE RECALIBRATED EVERY THREE MONTHS. THE TRANSMISSION WAS RECALIBRATED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,600.
MY CAR LIKE THE REST OF THE COMPLAINTS DOES NOT SHIFT RIGHT. IT JERKS AND SHUDDERS AND MAKES A LOUD NOISE WHEN IT SHIFTS. I TOOK IT TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY WILL NOT FIX IT BECAUSE IT DOES NOT MEET FORDS GUIDELINES TO FIX. THEY SAY IT IS IN NORMAL OPERATING STANDARDS BUT I DONT THINK A BRAND NEW CAR SHOULD BE SHUDDERING WHEN SHIFTS. NOW IT HAS AN ALERT POP UP SAYING HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE AND IT WONT GO OFF. *TR
TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING IN AND OUT OF FIRST AND SECOND GEAR. CAR WAS JERKING BACK AND FORTH AT LOW SPEEDS. TOOK TO THE DEALER AND NOTICED SEALS WERE LEAKING. WE ALSO OWN A 2014 FOCUS AND HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THAT TRANSMISSION. *TR
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHUTTERS, JERKS, LUNGES, SOMETIMES DANGEROUSLY FORWARD LIKE SOMEONE "POPPED THE CLUTCH". QUESTIONED DEALER AT PURCHASE AND WAS TOLD "BREAK IN". QUESTION DEALER PRIOR TO 10K SERVICE WAS TOLD "NORMAL". AT 10K SERVICE REQUESTED COMPUTER REPROGRAMMING AND UPDATES TO TRANSMISSION. WAS GIVEN AN "OFFICIAL FORD DESCRIPTION" DOCUMENT OF TRANSMISSION BASICALLY TOLD "NORMAL". TOOK CAR TO DIFFERENT DEALER FOR 20K SERVICE. TOLD THEM RE: SHUTTER, JERKING, AND LUNGING FORWARD. THEY FOUND CLUTCH OIL LEAK. REPLACED SEALS AND CLUTCH AND REPROGRAMMED COMPUTER. 2 WEEKS LATER CAR IS WORSE THEN BEFORE. SAME ISSUES BUT WORSE AND NOW A SLIGHT CLANKING/GRINDING SOUND AT LOWER SPEEDS DURING ACCELERATION AND HESITATION. WILL RETURN FOR SERVICE AGAIN.
WHEN YOU STEP ON THE GAS THE CAR HESITATES THEN MAKES A GRINDING SOUND AND LURCHES AS THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES. THE PROBLEM HAS EXISTED SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR ITS BEEN IN THE SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES, EACH TIME WE GET IT BACK THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AS WE USE IT FOR A DRIVERS EDUCATION CAR!! THE DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY ARE JUST AS CULPABLE AS FOR IS FOR PUTTING OUT AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASE THIS 2013 FORD FOCUS SE 6SPD POWERSHIFT WITH APPEARANCE PACKAGE ON JUNE 8 2013. WHEN I TOOK IT ONLY HAD 7 MILES. AS I DROVE THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS I HEARD NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH WHEN ACCELERATING FROM STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND THIS HAPPENS BETWEEN 5 TO 20 MILES PER HOUR AS I ACCELERATE AND THEN IT DISAPPEARS. I WENT ONLINE AND GOOGLE THIS NOISE AND READ THE THREADS LOOKS LIKE IT NEEDED TO BREAK IN. WHEN I REACHED AROUND 700 MILES ON THE ODOMETER THE NOISE IS ALMOST GONE BUT STILL THERE AND NOT AS BAD AS BEFORE. TODAY JUNE 30, 2013, IT HAS 1183 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AS I WAS MAKING A TURN FROM THE LIGHT ACCELERATING I GOT A SUDDEN SHIFT FELT LIKE SOMETHING HIT ME FROM BEHIND AND HEARD A THUNK WHEN IT SHIFTED AFTER THAT IT WENT THROUGH THE SHIFTING SEQUENCE AS I ACCELERATED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I BOUGHT A NEW CAR AND HAVE THIS KIND OF ISSUES. I READ ABOUT THE POWER SHIFT TSB BULLETIN BUT SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT IN THIS CAR HOPEFULLY FORD WILL FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE WARRANTY RUNS OUT. I BELIEVE THE WAY ITS SHIFTING SOMETHING WILL WEAR OUT FAST AND FORD NEEDS TO ACT ON THIS. *TR
AS WITH OVER 100 OTHER COMPLAINTS, THE TRANSMISSION IS A COMPLETE FAILURE. HESITATION AND ALMOST DYING AT A STOP OR IN SLOW BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC IS A SAFETY HAZARD. ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ON HIGHWAYS AND ATTAIN HIGHER SPEEDS FROM A STOP OR SLOW (10-20 MPH) HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO WRECK SEVERAL TIMES TO DUE HESITATION IN ACCELERATION. GRINDING NOISE FROM FRONT END AT LOW SPEEDS. ROLLS BACK ON A HILL (AUTOMATION TRANSMISSION) ALMOST CAUSED FENDER BENDERS. THE HESITATION IN ACCELERATION AND JERKING AT SLOW SPEEDS, IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND AS PREVIOUSLY STATED ALMOST CAUSED NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS. I HAVE HAD THE FSE INSPECT THE CAR TWICE, A SOFTWARE "UPGRADE" THAT DID NO GOOD, AND EVERYONE FROM FORD SAYS IT IS OPERATING AS "NORMAL CHARACTERISTICS". NOTHING IS NORMAL AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR DIE IF THESE PROBLEMS ARE NOT FIXED. DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS AND NOTHING DONE. *TR
STEERING AND COMPUTER AIDED SYSTEMS ALONG WITH TIRES THAT WERE NOT DISCLOSED TO BE USED UNDER 40 DEGREES CAUSED LOSS OF STEERING INPUT AND CONTROL WHICH LEAD TO HITTING A CURB AND DAMAGING SUSPENSION COMPONENTS AS WELL AS THE DRIVE-ABILITY OF THE VEHICLE IS WORSE THAT BEFORE. THERE ARE KNOWN ISSUES WITH THE STEERING ON THE 2013 FOCUS ST AND AFTER 6 MONTHS OF GOING BACK AND FORTH, FORD CANNOT REMEDY THE SITUATION AND THE CARE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT ANY SPEED AS THE LACK OF STEERING CONTROL CAUSE UNNECESSARY MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE, REQUIRING NERVES OF STEEL TO DRIVE AT EVEN 20 MPH. CLUNKING NOISES AND GRINDING ALSO COMING FROM SUSPENSION AND TRANSMISSION GEARS. *TR
THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN PLAGUED WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS SINCE SOON AFTER PURCHASE. IT HAS BEEN RETURNED TO MULTIPLE FORD DEALERSHIPS IN CARBON COUNTY PA SINCE BEING PURCHASED IN DECEMBER OF 2013. THERE HAS BEEN NO RESOLUTION AND PROBLEMS STILL PERSIST. WE ARE TRYING TO RETRIEVE THE ATTEMPTED REPAIR RECORDS AND WILL UPLOAD WHEN WE HAVE THEM.
TRAVELING ON A ROAD. STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. WHEN THE PEDAL WAS PRESSED THE CAR SHOWED AN ERROR OF "STOP SAFELY NOW" AND REFUSED TO MOVE. THE CAR HAD TO BE PUSHED AROUND THE CORNER OF THE INTERSECTION WHILE VEHICLES TRIED TO PASS. *TR
PURCHASED THE VEHICLE LAST SATURDAY JUNE 22. ABOUT 2 DAYS AFTER PURCHASE THE TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING NOISE SHIFTING GEARS. SOUNDS LIKE ROCKS IN A ALUMINUM COKE CAN. IT HESITATES AND SHIFTS HARD SOMETIMES. CONTACTED DEALER AND WAS TOLD IF IT SHOULD MESS UP I AM COVERED BY WARRANTY. THIS TO ME IS NOT NORMAL AND ITS QUITE SCARY. MY CAR HAS 300 MILES ON IT I SHOULDN'T BE HAVING TROUBLE LIKE THIS. I READ REVIEWS FROM OTHERS AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A WIDESPREAD ISSUE. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING MY BRAND NEW 2013 FORD FOCUS I NOTICED AT ACCELERATION FROM A STOP THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS "SLIPPING" (SHUDDERING, LURCHING INTO GEAR ETC.). I CONTACTED MY SALESMAN ABOUT THE ISSUE AND HE TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS "JUST BREAKING IN" AND IT WOULD GO AWAY. THIS PROBLEM DID NOT STOP AND EVENTUALLY GOT WORSE TO THE POINT THAT I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON MY OWN TO COMPLAIN. I WAS TOLD TO BRING MY CAR IN; THEY WERE GOING TO USE A "SPECIAL" CLEANING SOLUTION ON THE CLUTCHES IN THE TRANSMISSION TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IF THAT DID NOT WORK THEN THEY WOULD REPLACE THE CLUTCHES ALTOGETHER. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE CLUTCHES WERE REPLACED. THIS OCCURRED AT THE END OF JUNE OF THIS YEAR (2014); HERE IT IS NOT EVEN A MONTH LATER AND MY CAR IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. ALSO DURING THIS TIME PERIOD MY CAR WILL OCCASIONALLY ROLL BACKWARDS ON AN INCLINE. *TR
ON SUNDAY JUNE 23, 2013 AT APPROXIMATELY 3:00 PM ON OR ABOUT BUFFALOE RD AT SOUTHALL RD IN RALEIGH, NC, WE WERE HEADING WEST BOUND IN THE RIGHT LANE OF BUFFALOE RD. APPROACHING A GREEN LIGHT. APPROXIMATELY, 700 FT FROM THE LIMIT LINE, THE LIGHT CHANGED TO YELLOW AND WE SLOWED TO STOP. STOPPING WAS A LITTLE MORE FIRM THAN THE SLOW PACED REGENERATIVE CHARGING, A NOISE WAS FROM THE FRONT WAS HEARD, RESEMBLING THAT OF A LOOSE BRAKE PAD HITTING METAL AND THE VEHICLE THEM SOUNDED A WARNING AND FLASHED "STOP SAFELY NOW" VISUAL WARNING AS WE CAME TO A FULL STOP AT THE LIMIT LINE AT THE LIGHT. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE MOTOR, THE SYSTEM WAS ACTIVE AND THE GREEN GO CAR WAS NOT VISIBLE. WE ATTEMPTED TO RESET THE VEHICLE BY POWERING OFF AND POWERING ON TO NO AVAIL. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND CARS BEGAN TO SOUND THEIR HORNS. I IMMEDIATELY ACTIVATED THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND STEPPED OUT THE VEHICLE TO DIRECT TRAFFIC AROUND THE STALLED VEHICLE (NOT RECOMMENDED UNLESS PROPERLY TRAINED). TRAFFIC ON SEVERAL INSTANCES CAME DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO COLLISION AS THIS SITUATION PRESENTED A HUGE RISK TO PERSONAL SAFETY. HAD WE JUST SAT IN THE VEHICLE, WE SURELY WOULD HAVE EXPERIENCED A COLLISION. SEVERAL MINUTES PASSED AND WE ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE FROM A COLD START. IT WAS ONLY AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN, RESTED AND POWERED ON THAT WE WERE ABLE TO PROCEED. HAVING A VEHICLE JUST STOP IN TRAFFIC FOR NO REASON PRESENTS A HUGE RISK NOT ONLY TO THE OWNER BUT THOSE AROUND. *TR
TRANSMISSION CLUTCH MAKES VIBRATION NOISE, SLIPS, ROLLS BACKWARDS WHEN ON HILL WHEN YOU FIRST START, CLUTCH AND ASSOCIATED PARTS HAVE BEEN FIXED OR REPLACED AT DIFFERENT TIMES, WAS TOLD AT LAST INSPECTION BY DEALER THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO WITH IT AND WOULD HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT DUE TO FORD MOTOR SPECIFICATIONS. CAR HAS REFUSED TO MOVE AT DIFFERENT TIMES WHEN YOU START UP FROM A COMPLETE STOP. *TR
THE CAR IS A BRAND NEW 2013 FORD FOCUS WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 450 MILES, THE CAR STARTED MAKING A GRINDING NOISE IN THE LOWER GEARS - SIMILAR TO ONE MIGHT HEAR IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION IF YOU CAN'T FIND THE GEAR. IN ADDITION, THE CAR STUTTERS/SHUDDERS AT THE START IN LOWER GEARS. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE FOCUS WHICH FORD SEEMS UNWILLING TO ADEQUATELY ADDRESS. WHILE THE STUTTERING/SHUDDERING ISSUE CAN CERTAINLY PRESENT SAFETY ISSUES, I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM RELATES TO. *TR
I HAVE A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CAR REMAINS UNDER WARRANTY. SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR, THE MANUFACTURE HAS PAID FOR THE CLUTCH TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED TWICE DUE TO ISSUES WITH THE CAR STALLING WHILE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT (IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION THAT IS CONTROLLED BY A COMPUTER SYSTEM AND FUNCTIONS AS AN AUTOMATIC FOR THE DRIVER). THE CAR WAS BOUGHT IN SEPTEMBER 2012. THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED ON 6/19/2013 WITH 10,760 MILES. THE CLUTCH WAS AGAIN REPLACED ON 9/24/2014 AT 28,215 MILES. BOTH TIMES THE CLUTCH HAS BEEN REPLACED IT HAS BEEN DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS ABOUT THE CAR STALLING WHILE GOING UPHILL. LAST NIGHT (5/16/2015) WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE GOING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR, I FELT THE CAR TRANSMISSION SLIP OUT OF GEAR. I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE/GIVE GAS TO THE ENGINE AND THE CAR WAS RAPIDLY DECELERATING. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY. THIS CAR APPEARS TO HAVE SIGNIFICANT SAFETY FLAWS WITH THE THE DUAL-CLUTCH, AUTOMATED-MANUAL TRANSMISSION THAT MAKE IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED TWO DAYS OR SO AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR. HEARD GRINDING NOISE IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR AS IF METAL WAS DRAGGING ON ASPHALT. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED IT WAS NORMAL. ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY RAN A TEST AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG AND RESET THE COMPUTER. LIFTED THE HOOD AND STEAM WAS EMANATING FROM THE COOLANT RESERVOIR AND THE LID HAD COME OFF DUE TO THE PRESSURE. I HAD TO CALL FOR A TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY RAN ANOTHER TEST AND FOUND THAT THE RADIATOR FAN HAD FAILED AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE IT. MORE REPEATED TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THE GRINDING TRANSMISSION BUT TO NO AVAIL. IN APRIL 2014, I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE VIOLENT SHUDDERING AND JERKING, ALONG WITH THE GRINDING, AND AGAIN TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD MY HUSBAND NOTHING WAS WRONG BECAUSE THEY DID NOT EXPERIENCE IT WHEN HE CAME IN. TOOK IT BACK THE NEXT DAY, THEY RAN A TEST AND FOUND THAT I WAS IS FACT RIGHT THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THE CLUTCH WAS BEING LEAKED ON BY SEALS ABOVE IT. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD ORDERED THE PART AND WOULD CALL ME WHEN IT CAME IN. I WAS NOT TOLD TO LEAVE IT THERE. PURCHASED THE 2013 FORD FOCUS ON 02/25/2013 WITH 5 MILES. ON 6/15/13, I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER TSB 13-4-5 WAS RELEASED AND PRESENTED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL SHIFTING AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO TO FIX THE ISSUE. JANUARY 2014, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME ISSUE THAT I COMPLAINED ABOUT IN JUNE, AND THEY SAID WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCE WAS THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER AND FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HOW TO REPAIR IT. THAT WAS REPAIR #1. OVER THE NEXT EIGHT MONTHS, I HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES BUT WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE FOR MULTIPLE DAYS BEFORE THE VEHICLE COULD BE DIAGNOSED FOR REPAIR. I WENT FOR A SECOND OPTION AND GOT THE VEHICLE REPAIRED ON 9/24/24. REPAIR #2. REPAIR #3 WAS MADE 11/4/14. REPAIR #4 WAS MADE ON 1/10/15 AND THE ISSUE IS STILL ONGOING. WHEN SPEAKING WITH FORD ABOUT THE SITUATION AT HAND AND THE ISSUES THAT I WAS HAVING, I WAS TOLD BY A SENIOR REGIONAL MANAGER THAT ONE RESOLUTION FORD COULD RECOMMEND IS TO TRADE IN THE VEHICLE. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE TIMES WERE THE FOCUS HAS JUMPED, STALLED, CHATTERED AND LOUD GRINDING COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE SAME SENIOR REGIONAL MANAGER ALSO TOLD ME THAT IF THEY WERE TO REPURCHASE THE FOCUS, THAT I WOULD END UP PAYING MONEY TO FORD FOR THE USAGE!! SHE ALSO SAID THAT I WILL NEVER QUALIFY FOR A LEMON DUE TO THE FIRST "REPAIR" THAT WAS MADE EXCEEDED WHAT FORD WOULD ALLOW ACCORDING TO THE STATE" FORD NEEDS TO OWN UP FOR THE ISSUES THEY HAVE CAUSED THE CONSUMER AND PRODUCING AN UNSAFE AND UNRELIABLE VEHICLE. NOW, IN SEPTEMBER 2015, I HAVE RECEIVED A SOFTWARE UPDATE PROGRAM 15B22 WHICH IS EXTENDING MY WARRANTY. FORD ALREADY AGREED TO EXTEND MY WARRANTY IN 2013 BECAUSE OF MY COMPLAINTS. HOWEVER, THAT DOCUMENTATION DOES NOT SHOW UP IN THE FORD OASIS SYSTEM, BUT MR. FORD'S OFFICE ASSURES ME THAT IF I SHOW THEM THE LETTER, IT WILL HONORED. I HAVE ALL OF THE BACK UP MATERIAL FROM 2013 INCLUDING PHONE LOGS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT CAN ONLY BE CORRECTED WITH REPLACING THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER. HAD TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THEM TO DRIVE THE CAR AND LEAVE IT AN ENTIRE DAY. WENT BACK JULY 18, 2013. DEALER HAD A TECH DRIVE THE CAR, AND YES, THERE WAS A PROBLEM. PARTS ORDERED. AFTER WAITING WEEKS, WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A NATIONWIDE BACKORDER ON PARTS. AFTER HITTING 3000 MILES, STARTED TO HAVE SEVERE STEERING ISSUES. WHEN SHIFTING INTO SECOND OR THIRD UNDER ACCELERATION, THE WOULD ALMOST MAKE A RIGHT TURN. AND THEN WHEN ACCELERATING IN SECOND AND THIRD, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD VIBRATE SO BAD I HAD TO HANG ON FOR DEAR LIFE. BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY MADE A CALL TO FORD ENGINEERING WHO SAID THAT NEW MOUNTS WOULD FIX THE STEERING ISSUES. IN AUGUST, I STARTED CALLING HEATHER AT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. EXPLAINED ABOUT THE BACKORDER AND MY STEERING ISSUES. TOLD HER I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. SHE SAID SHE WOULD TRY TO EXPEDITE THE PARTS. AFTER WEEKS OF NO RESULTS, TALKED TO HER ABOUT ME BUYING AFTERMARKET MOUNTS THAT ARE AVAILABLE. SHE SAID FORD WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE ANYTHING BUT FORD PARTS. I SAID THAT WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE IF FORD WOULD COME UP WITH THE PARTS. I AM NOW BEING TOLD THAT PARTS MIGHT BE HERE IN OCTOBER. WORD ON THE WEB IS THAT DELIVERY WILL MOST LIKELY BE NOVEMBER OR NEXT YEAR. FINALLY BROKE DOWN AND BOUGHT MY OWN MOUNTS AT A COST OF $369. MY SAFETY IS WORTH THAT MUCH. I WILL TRY TO GET MY MONEY BACK FROM FORD, WAITED 9000 MILES FOR THEM TO FIX IT. *JS
CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH VOICE COMMAND. WHEN I USE VOICE TO TURN ON HEAT OR AC, I WILL SAY FOR EXAMPLE, CLIMATE 68. THE CAR WILL RESPOND, SETTING CLIMATE 68. THEN IT DOES NOT TURN ON. IF I TOUCH THE CLIMATE TOUCH SCREEN IT THEN COMES ON AT 68, EVEN IF IT WAS PREVIOUSLY SET AT 75. BEEN TO THE DEALER REPEATEDLY FOR TWO SOFTWARE UPDATES, ONCE PULLING OUT THE CONTROL BOX PER FORDS REQUEST TO CHECK THE PART NUMBER AND ONCE TO HAVE THE 8 PIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACED. NOW WAITING FOR FORD ENGINEERING TO COME UP WITH A FIX. *JS
THE FORD FOCUS 2013 SEEMS TO HAVE A LOT OF ISSUE WITH TRANSMISSION. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR ABOUT 8 TIMES NOW TO FIX THE GRINDING PROBLEM WHEN IT CHANGES GEAR. A SOFTWARE FIX WAS MOSTLY DONE WHICH SOLVES THE ISSUE (MAY BE) FOR A WEEK AND THEN IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN. THEY CHANGED THE CLUTCH OR SOMETHING RELATED TO THAT AND WORKED FAIRLY BETTER DURING THE WINTER OF 2013 BUT COME SUMMER OF 2014 SAME ISSUE. IN FACT THE GRINDING ISSUE GOT SO BAD THAT I HAD NO OPTION BUT TO TAKE IT BACK IN. IT STARTED TO GRIND IN EVERY GEAR POSSIBLE. GOING UP THE HILL WAS A HUGE NIGHTMARE. IT USED TO GRIND ALL THE WAY ON THE THIRD GEAR TILL IT SHIFTED TO FOURTH. SO IMAGINE SITTING INSIDE THE CAR DURING THAT TIME. ALSO, WITH THE AC ON IT WAS A NIGHTMARE. I DRIVE A LITTLE LONGER TO WORK THAN MOST PEOPLE AND IT IS A SCARY DRIVE EVERY SINGLE DAY. THE GEAR DOES NOT CHANGE SMOOTHLY, IT DOES GET STUCK OCCASIONALLY AND I GET HUGE JERKS BEFORE IT CHANGES, AND THE DEALERS AND FORD HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE ISSUE IS. THEY WONT ORDER A RECALL TO FIX IT NOR WILL THEY GIVE ME A NEW CAR. IT IS POTENTIALLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE THESE FOCUS CARS. I AM SCARED IF THE CAR WILL STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I HOPE SUCH A DAY DOES NOT COME. *TR
VEHICLE GOING ON LOWER GEAR (1ST TO 3RD GEAR) WILL SLIP. THE TRANSMISSION WILL JERK AND CHOKE. WHEN IT CHOKES THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER AND SLOWS DOWN CAUSING THE CAR BEHIND ALMOST HIT ME. ALSO THERE IS A DRY RATTLE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. BROUGHT IT BACK TO FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID ALL TEST IS NORMAL BUT CAN'T DO ANY OTHER REPAIR TO TEST BECAUSE I AM UNDER WARRANTY AND FORD DON'T AUTHORIZE THEM TO DO FURTHER REPAIRS. *TR
MY CAR HAS HAD THE STEERING FIXED, THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED AND THE CLUTCH FIXED 5-6 TIMES IN 6 MONTHS. MY TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH IS STILL NOT REPAIRED. SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE IN THIS CAR AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO GET RID OF IT SO I AM FORCED TO PUT MY LIFE IN DANGER EVERY DAY. I HAVE A LEMON LAW ATTORNEY AND FORD WILL STILL DO NOTHING. I PAID $1095 FOR AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND I DO NOT HAVE AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. FORD COMMITTED FRAUD WITH THIS SALE. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS AND THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. WE ALMOST GOT HIT IN THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WITH THE OTHER CAR GOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. CAN'T PULLOUT SAFELY.
MY 2013 FORD FOCUS HAS THE SAME TRANSMISSION AND THEREFORE THE SAME ISSUES THAT ARE COVERED BY FORD'S CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 14M01 BUT FOR SOME INEXPLICABLE REASON MY VEHICLE WAS OMITTED FROM THE PROGRAM. THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE SAME. THE ISSUE IS AN ENGINEERING PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION NOT A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. TO EXCLUDE SELECTED VEHICLES DUE TO MANUFACTURING DATES OR LOCATIONS SHOULD NOT APPLY. THE APPLICATION OF THE ISSUE SHOULD BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND VEHICLE YEAR. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW 4 YEARS AGO. THE SYMPTOMS ARE SEVERE TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE AND VIOLENT SHUDDERING WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. EACH REPAIR HAS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM FOR A VERY SHORT DURATION. ALTHOUGH THIS HAS NOT RESULTED IN A CRASH YET, I AM NOT CERTAIN THAT IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE VEHICLES TRANSMISSION WAS TO FAIL TO ACCELERATE WHILE TURNING ACROSS LANES OF TRAFFIC.
WE PURCHASED A 2013 FORD FOCUS WITH THE DCT. BY 1200 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION WAS GRINDING AND STUTTERING TO THE POINT OF ALMOST STALLING DURING ACCELERATION. FORD PERFORMED A REPAIR AFTER FINDING THE CLUTCHES BURNED UP AND BEARING FAILURE. THIS FIX LASTED FOR AWHILE BEFORE THE PROBLEM RETURNED. DURING THIS PERIOD WE HAD DIFFICULTY GETTING FORD DEALERSHIPS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, WITH MY BABY DAUGHTER IN THE BACK SEAT, THE CAR WOULD SURGE, HESITATE, NEARLY STALL, AND OTHERWISE POSE DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATIONS. EVENTUALLY FORD PERFORMED A SECOND REPAIR FINDING CLUTCH FAILURE AGAIN AND THEN WHEN THAT REPAIR LASTED LESS THAN 500 MILES REPLACED THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. BUT NOW, EVEN WITH THE NEW TRANSMISSION, THE PROBLEMS HAVE RETURNED. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE INSISTS THAT NEARLY STALLING AND OBNOXIOUS STUTTERING IS NORMAL AND POSSIBLY THE RESULT OF MULTIPLE DRIVERS CONFUSING THE COMPUTER. WERE NOW AT 14000 MILES AND PROBLEM REMAINS. *TR
THE CAR ABRUPTLY SHUDDERS/JOLTS BETWEEN 0-20 MPH. THIS OCCURS MAINLY DURING ACCELERATION. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT, I WAS PROVIDED A PIECE OF PAPER FROM FORD EXPLAINING THAT THIS WAS A TYPICAL, AND NORMAL, CHARACTERISTIC OF THE TRANSMISSION WITHIN THE 2013 FORD FOCUS MODELS. THE ISSUE WAS VERIFIED, BUT NO MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED. I AGAIN TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE SAME ISSUE 06/06/2013, WHERE IT WAS ONE AGAIN VERIFIED, YET NO MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED BECAUSE FORD WAS STILL HAVING DEALERSHIPS GIVE CUSTOMERS THE PIECE OF PAPER EXPLAINING THE TRANSMISSION. I ASKED THAT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION BLOWS IF IT WOULD BE COVERED, AND I WAS TOLD 'YES.' THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN AGAIN 02/17/2014 FOR THE SAME ISSUE, VERIFIED, AND MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED THIS TIME BECAUSE FORD HAS RECOGNIZED THAT IT INDEED WAS AN ISSUE, AND NOT A CHARACTERISTIC. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO EXIST, AND MY TRANSMISSION WAS REMOVED AND CLEANED ON 06/30/2014. MY CAR HAS GONE IN FOR ADDITIONAL SERVICE DUE TO THIS SHUDDERING TRANSMISSION; I WAS TURNED AWAY ONCE WHEN I ARRIVED A DEALERSHIP ON A SATURDAY FOR THIS ISSUE, AND WAS TOLD 'IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE,' AND ON APRIL 22, 2015, I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH, WHICH IS ON BACKORDER FOR 12 WEEKS. THE PROBLEM WILL NOT GO AWAY; I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR.

FORD HAS OFFERED ME A FREE OIL CHANGE WHICH I THOUGHT WAS FUNNY. MY WIFE HAS TO DRIVE IT TO WORK WE HAVE NO CHOICE IN THE MATTER SINCE IT IS OUR ONLY CAR. IF MY WIFE GETS HIT OR IF SHE HITS ANOTHER CAR I WILL BE GETTING A LAWYER BECAUSE FORD KNOWS ABOUT OUR PROBLEMS. I ASKED TO TRADE IT FOR ANOTHER BUT THEY DON'T WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM OR DO A TRADE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND REFERRED THE CONTACT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE WAS NO T REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 300.
