THE TRANSMISSION IN THE CAR STARTED TO BEHAVE ERRATICALLY ONCE WE HAD ~2500 MILES. IT WAS MAKING HORRIBLE GRINDING NOISES WHILE SHIFTING GEARS. IT WAS SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS (UP/DOWN/UP/DOWN) WHILE ASCENDING HILLS LIKE IT COULDN'T DECIDE WHAT GEAR TO BE IN. IT SEEMED TO HAVE LOST POWER SUCH THAT PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR WAS NOT RESULTING IN AN EXPECTED INCREASE IN SPEED. IT STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS OCCASIONALLY WHEN STOPPED ON A HILL, IMMEDIATELY AFTER REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE BREAK. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS IT WOULD LURCH FORWARD WHILE COMING TO A STOP. OCCASIONALLY IT IS UNABLE TO FIND THE APPROPRIATE GEAR, OR STAYS IN A GEAR WELL AFTER IT SHOULD HAVE SHIFTED TO A HIGHER GEAR. IT OFTEN SHUDDERS, OFTEN TO A POINT THAT IT FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL, WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. IN GENERAL, WE DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR BETWEEN THE RANDOM LURCHES/JUMPS AND THE RANDOM LACK OF POWER/RESPONSE TO THE THROTTLE. *TR
CAR STALLED WITH SOME WARNING MESSAGES FOR NO REASON. AFTER COMPLETE TURN-OFF RESTARTED NORMALLY. HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC AND COULD RESULT WITH ACCIDENT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE MAIN SEAL, CLUTCH PACK AND FRONT SEALS HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000.

I LEASE TWO FORD FOCUSES; ONE FOR ME AND ONE FOR MY DAUGHTER (UNDER MY WIFE'S OWNERSHIP). THE CAR HAS STALLED ON ME TWICE AND ONCE ON MY DAUGHTER. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED AT SPEED OF 35 MILES PER HOUR IN JUNE 2013 AND THE SECOND TIME AT LESS THAN 2 MILES HOUR IN AUGUST 2013. THE FIRST TIME, IT ASKED ME TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE AND STALLED. I PULLED OVER AND PARKED THE CAR, LOOKED AT THE WHEELS THINKING THAT IT MAY HAVE HAPPENED DUE TO LOW AIR, HOWEVER, NOTHING. I SHUT DOWN THE CAR AND THEN RESTARTED AFTER TWO MINUTES, IT STARTED JUST FINE. THAT IS UNTIL THE SECOND TIME WHEN IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED AT THE CORNER OF 11TH AND J STREET IN SACRAMENTO, CA. I GOT OUT OF THE CITY GARAGE MADE A RIGHT TURN ON 11TH TO MAKE A LEFT ON J STREET. AT THE LIGHT, IT JUST SHUT DOWN WITH THE WARNING WITHOUT ABILITY TO PULL OVER. I HAD TO WAIVE THE DRIVERS BEHIND ME TO GO AROUND. I COULD NOT DO MUCH. SAME THING, AFTER TWO MINUTES, THE CAR RESTARTED. AT BOTH TIMES, THE CAR WAS FULLY CHARGED. SIMILARLY, THIS HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER, WHO FREAKED OUT AND SHE CALLED ME. I TOLD HER IT MAY BE GLITCH AS IT HAD HAPPENED TO ME THE FIRST TIME AROUND. SHE PULLED OVER, PARKED, WAITED FOR TWO MINUTES, RESTARTED AND SO FAR HER CAR IS FINE. WHOM SHOULD I REPORT THIS TO? THE FIRST TIME, IT GAVE ME TIME TO PULL OVER, HOWEVER, THE SECOND TIME, IT JUST SHUT DOWN. I THOUGHT FORD KNEW ABOUT IT THUS DID NOT REPORT. PLEASE HELP ME REPORT THIS. WHEN DRIVING ON RESIDENTIAL ROADS, I OFTEN FEEL MY 2013 FORD FOCUS STALL OR JERK. OFTEN TIMES THERE ARE GLITCHES IN THE ELECTRICAL WIRING OF LOCKS AND ALSO IN THE RADIO. THE DOOR WILL STAY LOCKED AFTER HITTING THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE INSIDE MULTIPLE TIMES. THE RADIO WILL NOT TURN ON, UNLESS I TURN OFF AND RE-TURN ON THE CAR. THIS APPLIES TO THE FORD FOCUS ELECTRIC. I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I HEARD A LOAD CLUNK. I INSTANTLY FELT THE POWER STEERING FAIL AND THE MOTOR CEASE FUNCTION (LOST ALL POWER RENDERING ME IMMOBOLIZED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET). THE DASH DISPLAYED THE WARINING "STOP SAFELY NOW". THIS INDICATES AN ELECTRICAL FAULT. NOTE THE BATTERY HAD A FULL CHARGE. THE SYMPTOM PERSISTED.AS I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE A FEW BLOCKS WITH THE SAME BEHAVIOUR. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR BACK TO MY HOUSE AND CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. I WAS LUCKY I WAS NOT ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENDED. *TR

WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THIS WAS THE ONLY TIME IT WOULD NOT SHIFT BUT RAISED A RED FLAG. AFTER TURNING OFF IGNITION AND TRYING AGAIN IT FINALLY ENGAGED, ALL OTHER SHIFTER SELECTIONS WERE FINE; N, D. SOON THEREAFTER I BEGAN NOTICING A STRANGE GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END ACCOMPANIED BY A SLIGHT VIBRATION UPON ACCELERATION FROM A STOP OR WHEN NEGOTIATING A CURVE AT SLOW SPEED. WE LEFT FOR TUCSON SOON THEREAFTER TOWING OUR FOCUS BEHIND OUR MOTORHOME. THE CAR CONTINUED WITH THE SAME ISSUES AS DESCRIBED ABOVE SO I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALER. THEY TEST DROVE AND SAID THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN TO BRING IT BACK. SOON AFTER.THIS WE DROVE FROM TUCSON TO ALBUQUERQUE AND THE CAR SHUDDERED AND HESITATED WHILE SHIFTING SO BADLY I FELT IT WAS UNSAFE. RETURNED TO DEALER IN TUCSON TWO MORE TIMES WHERE THEY FINALLY "FIXED" IT. LASTED TWO DAYS NOW WORSE THAN EVER. I FEEL THAT THIS CAR IS VERY UNSAFE AND SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING SEVERAL VEHICLES SINCE 1958 AND THIS IS MY WORSE DRIVING EXPERIENCE EVER. I WILL BE MAKING AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY LOCAL DEALER TODAY TO SEE IF THEY HAVE A SOLUTION. WHILE DRIVING AN ALERT COMES ON STATING "STOP SAFELY NOW", THEN THE VEHICLE STARTS TO LOSE POWER, GIVING THE DRIVER LITTLE TIME TO PULL OVER. IF YOU ARE IN THE FAR LEFT LANE, IT COULD BE A REALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE SHOP ONCE BEFORE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED AND IT IS BECOMING AN ISSUE OF CONCERN. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE TRAVELING AT EXTREMELY LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO DEFECT AND THAT THE UNEXPECTED SURGE WAS THE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12.
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FOCUS SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN 2013. THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS, VIBRATES, GOES BACK ON HILLS AND RATTLES. I FINALLY GAVE UP AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET IT FIXED AND BEING TOLD ITS ALL NORMAL. MY FRUSTRATION WITH FORD AND ITS DEALERS IS THAT THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM LONG BEFORE I BOUGHT MINE, WHY WERE THEY STILL SELLING THEM TO UNAWARE BUYERS. I HAD BOUGHT A 2010 FOCUS FROM A DIFFERENT DEALER AND HAD TO RETURN THAT ONE BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION BROKE A WEEK AFTER I GOT IT AND ONLY AFTER I NOTIFIED THE BUREAU OF AUTO REPAIR DID THEY EXCHANGE THE CAR. NOW I FEEL STUCK WITH ANOTHER LEMON BUT NO ONE WILL DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. IT'S BEEN 2 YEARS AND I'M STILL TRYING TO GET SOMEONE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, NOT JUST FOR ME BUT FOR ALL THE CONSUMERS THAT WERE CONNED INTO BUY THIS LEMON. I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN.
WITH 9100 MILES ON IT...WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THE RPMS REVVED TO OVER 7000 AND THEN DOWN TO ZERO. ALL GEARS WERE LOST AND HAD TO COAST TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER. TOWED TO DEALER WHERE THEY DOWNLOADED SOFTWARE TO IT AND SAID IT WAS FINE. *TR APPROXIMATELY 1000 MILES LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHILE CROSSING TRAFFIC ON A HIGHWAY. TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE A CLUTCH MOTOR WAS REPLACED. WITH 14320 MILES ON IT THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHILE TURNING OFF A FREEWAY RAMP. TOWED TO DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK IN TRADE FOR A NEW CAR. VEHICLE WAS POWERLESS TO MOVE AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN INJURY OR DEATH OF OCCUPANTS DUE TO SHUTDOWN OCCURRING WHILE MOVING IN TRAFFIC AT HIGH SPEEDS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE FRONT TIE ROD FAILED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE AND THE FRONT PASSENGER'S FRONT WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE, CAUSING THE FRONT END OF THE FRAME TO DROP TO THE GROUND. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE BACK AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER BUT A DIAGNOSTIC WAS NOT PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,200.
LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED - AS I WAS DRIVING THE HIGHWAY TO GO HOME, THE CARS MOTOR SUDDENLY SHUT OFF, AFTER BARELY MAKING IT TO THE SHOULDER (INCHES FROM TRAFFIC) I LOOKED AT THE ESTIMATED MILES TO EMPTY, WHICH STATED 17 MILES TO EMPTY - YET I WAS OUT OF FUEL. SEEMS FORD FOCUS HAS A INCORRECT READING ON THE FUEL ECONOMY/AND OR ESTIMATED PORTION THAT COULD BE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. (I TOOK A PHOTO OF THE DASH READOUTS AS WELL). *TR
IN AUGUST OF 2013 I BROUGHT MY 2013 FORD FOCUS INTO THE DEALERSHIP WITH TRANSMISSION ISSUES. I OWNED THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS AT THAT POINT WITH 6,000 MILES ON IT. CAR WAS SHUDDERING AT LOWER GEARS, TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING, AT TIMES RPM WOULD REV UP HIGHER THAN NORMAL, GRINDING NOISE COULD BE HEARD FROM THE ENGINE AT TIMES, LOSS OF POWER AND A COUPLE TIMES COMPLETE LOSS OF ACCELERATION WHILE TRYING TO TURN ACROSS TRAFFIC. I TOOK THE CAR INTO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND A COUPLE OF SOFTWARE UPDATES WERE APPLIED TO THE CAR. THIS FIXED IT FOR MAYBE 3 MONTHS THEN I STARTED NOTICING LOSS OF POWER IN THE CAR AGAIN, AND NOW RECENTLY ALL OF THE SAME ISSUES I ORIGINALLY HAD, AND LISTED ABOVE, HAVE RESURFACED. CURRENT MILES ARE 14,000. I CAN'T EVEN GO UP A HILL FASTER THAN 25 MILES AN HOUR, THE CAR FAILS TO CHANGE GEAR AND ENGINE RPMS REV AND THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING EVERYDAY. MY CAR IS BACK AT FORD, THIS TIME FOR A WEEK WHILE THEY TRY TO DETERMINE WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. THIS IS NOT NORMAL OPERATING FOR A CAR NO MATTER WHAT FORD SAYS. LOSS OF POWER WHILE TRYING TO CROSS TRAFFIC IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO FORD SERVICE FOR A CONTINUOUS OIL LEAK FROM THE TRANSMISSION 4 TIMES, 8/5/13, 8/25/14, 1/13/15, AND 4/15/15. THE TRANSMISSION OIL IS LEAKING ONTO THE CLUTCHES CAUSING VIOLENT SHUTTERING WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SHIFTING. *TR
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the vehicle had been experiencing transmission failures. The contact stated that the transmission failed to shift as intended and was downshifting unexpectedly while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, where the TCM software and firmware were updated; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated while his son was driving 70 MPH, the transmission downshifted unexpectedly to second gear, nearly causing a crash. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact's son was able to pull to the side of the road momentarily. The contact's son then continued driving at slower speeds. The contact stated that upon using an OBD reader to scan the vehicle, diagnostic tests codes related to the transmission clutch actuator and to other unknown parts were retrieved. A second dealer, Johnson Sewell Ford (3301 N U.S. Hwy 281, Marble Falls, TX 78654, (830)693-5577) was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 100.
MY FIVE YEAR OLD SON WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER REAR OF THE FORD FOCUS EV (2013) IN A BOOSTER SEAT (BOTTOM ONLY, NO BACK). HE MANAGED TO WRAP THE SEAT BELT AROUND HIS TORSO. WHEN MY WIFE ARRIVED HOME AND PARKED, MY SON UNHOOKED THE SEAT BELT, BUT THE BELT HAD LOCKED AND WOULD NOT RELEASE. THE BELT WAS VERY TIGHT AGAINST MY SONS CHEST. WE TRIED TO WIGGLE HIM OUT AND TO RELEASE THE TENSION ON THE BELT, BUT WITH EACH TRY THE BELT TIGHTEN MORE. HE BECAME VERY SCARED AND WE CUT THE SEAT BELT.
THE ENGINE AND FORD SELECTSHIFT DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSIONS ARE DANGEROUS. THEY ARE VERY UNPREDICTABLE.THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS, GRINDS AND BUCKS IN TRAFFIC. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO NEARLY HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME BEFORE. THE ENGINE'S ELECTRONIC THROTTLE IS ALSO VERY UNPREDICTABLE. SOMETIMES WHEN I TRY TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AND PRESS THE ACCELERATOR, NOTHING AT ALL HAPPENS FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS. THIS HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO BE STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE BEFORE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A POWER SHIFT DUAL CLUTCH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, WHICH ALLOWED THE COMPUTER TO SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE AND SHUTTER WHENEVER HE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 62 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY FAILED TO DRIVE FORWARD. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD. THE CONTACT HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE COCCIA FORD LINCOLN DEALER (577 E MAIN ST. LILKES-BARRE, PA 18702; 570-823-8888). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CLUTCH, TCM, AND SHIELDS FAILING WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO REPAIR JUST REPLACEMENTS OF PARTS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED APPROXIMATELY FIVE TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT HAD NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. MY 2013 FORD FOCUS HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES, ONE OF WHICH TOOK OVER MONTH TO GET THE PART. MY TRANSMISSION IS CLEARLY FAULTY AND WHENEVER I ACCELERATE TO 20MPH OR 45MPH MY TRANSMISSION ISN'T PROPERLY SHIFTING. ON 8/18 MY TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO DROP OUT WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY IN MICHIGAN. THIS IS AFTER JUST RECEIVING MY VEHICLE BACK FROM FORD SERVICE WITHIN THE LAST 7 DAYS. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AT HIGH SPEEDS WITH A FAULTY TRANSMISSION.

PURCHASED CAR NEW AND FROM DAY ONE IT WAS EVIDENT THERE WE'RE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. WHILE DRIVING RESIDENTIAL STREETS AT APPROXIMATELY 25MPH, THE CAR SOUNDED AN UNFAMILIAR WARNING TONE ALONG WITH THE MESSAGE "STOP SAFELY NOW" - AT WHICH POINT, I COASTED THE CAR TO A STOP (UNFORTUNATELY THIS HAPPENED TO BE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION). EVEN THOUGH I HAD NO THROTTLE CONTROL AT THIS POINT, THE CAR REFUSED TO SHUT DOWN AFTER MULTIPLE PRESSES OF THE "START" BUTTON. I EVENTUALLY TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, HIT "START" AGAIN, OPENED THE DOOR AND THIS SEEMED TO CYCLE THE CAR TO "OFF" MODE. I THEN TRIED AGAIN TO START THE CAR AND IT WORKED - AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS OF DRIVING THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" ERROR CAME ON AGAIN. I PULLED OVER THIS TIME AND SHUT THE CAR DOWN FOR 10 MINUTES - I WAS ABLE TO LATER DRIVE THE CAR HOME. WAITED AN HOUR AND DECIDED TO HAVE MY WIFE VIDEO TAPE ME WHILE DRIVING INCASE THIS HAPPENED AGAIN.. I WAS ON MY WAY BACK HOME FROM CHICAGO TO OHIO. ABOUT AN HOUR INTO THE TRIP MY STEERING STARTED GETTING STIFF AND HARD TO CONTROL. I HAD TO HOLD ON WITH BOTH HAND TIGHTLY. ON JULY 17, 2013, I BOUGHT A 2013 FORD FOCUS FROM THE FORD DEALER IN MY AREA. ON JULY 18, 2013, I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE FORD DEALER, BECAUSE AS I ACCELERATED FROM EVERY STOP, AND FROM SOME LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS, THE TRANSMISSION PRODUCED VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISES AS THE GEARS SHIFTED AND THE CAR WOULD JERK OR SHUDDER. AT THIS TIME THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPROGRAMMED PER TSB 14 0047. HAVING OWNED THE CAR FOR ONE DAY, IT WAS A SHOCKING REVELATION TO BE TOLD THAT THE CARS BEHAVIOR WAS TYPICAL FOR MY PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT I COULD BRING IT BACK WHENEVER I FELT IT NECESSARY. ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2014, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE FORD DEALER WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS. THE WORK DONE AT THIS TIME AS WRITTEN ON THE INVOICE WAS AS FOLLOWS: PROGRAMMED PCM AND TCM ROAD TESTED RESET TRANSMISSION STRATEGY. I WAS REASSURED, YET AGAIN, THAT THESE CAR BEHAVIORS WERE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE 2013 FOCUS AND THAT I NEED NOT WORRY ABOUT SAFETY FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS. ALTHOUGH THE REPROGRAMMING MADE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE, MY CAR HAS NEVER BEEN WITHOUT SOME GEAR GRINDING, SKIPPING, AND SHUDDERING ON ACCELERATION AND DURING SLOW L AND R TURNS. I HAVE NOT RETURNED FOR SERVICE BECAUSE I WAS ASSURED IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. ESSENTIALLY, I LEARNED TO LIVE WITH IT. ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2015, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY NOTIFYING ME THEY WERE PROVIDING A SOFTWARE UPDATE PROGRAM 15B22 FOR THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM14M02. THE LANGUAGE IN THIS LETTER IS, QUITE FRANKLY, ALARMING, LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE TRANSMISSION IN THE 2013 FOCUS IS, IN FACT, A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE ALREADY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE UPDATE. PLEASE ADVISE ME OF FURTHER ACTION THAT CAN BE TAKEN.
"STOP SAFELY NOW" INDICATOR CAME ON WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE. AT A STOP LIGHT APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES LATER, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER IN FRONT OF INTERSECTION. THIS IS AN ALL ELECTRIC VEHICLE. I PLACED TRANSMISSION IN PARK AND ATTEMPTED TO POWER CYCLE CAR WITH NO SUCCESS FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES. ONCE I OPENED THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR, THE CAR WAS THEN ABLE TO POWER BACK ON. ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT MY WIFE PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STARTED THE CAR AGAIN THEN DROVE HOME WITH NO ISSUE. 2ND INCIDENT: TODAY 9/11 MY WIFE WAS PULLING OUT OF HER DRIVEWAY FOR WORK AND THE CALL STALLED WITH THE MESSAGE TO STOP SAFELY NOW. SHE RE-STARTED THE CAR WITH NO INCIDENT AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE TO WORK. *TR
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle shuddered and jerked abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred increasingly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times. The dealer replaced the TCM several times; however, the failure persisted. The contact received a notification for Ford Campaign Number: 14M02. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs; however, the dealer diagnosed that the transmission clutch had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 10.
FIRST STARTED EXPERIENCES TRANSMISSION SHUDDERING/HESITATION SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. DEALER REPROGRAMMED TCM TWICE. THEN, IN OCTOBER 2013, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR LOCKED INTO 1ST GEAR, RED-LINED THE RPM AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 25 MPH. ATTEMPTS TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL OR THE AUTOMATIC SHIFT MODE WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. ENTERED THE FREEWAY GOING 25 MPH AND ALMOST GOT IN A VERY SEVERE ACCIDENT. WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE FREEWAY AT THE NEXT EXIT WHERE THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF. AFTER STARTING THE CAR AGAIN IT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH. AFTER THE NEW CLUTCH WAS REPLACED THE SHUDDERING DECREASED BUT THE CAR STILL HESITATED. AT ABOUT 40K MILES, IN FEBRUARY 2015, THE SHUDDERING/JERKING WORSENED. THIS TIME THE JERKING WAS SO VIOLENT THAT PASSENGERS IN MY CAR SAID THEY DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IN IT. THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE EXTREMELY SLOWLY, EVEN WHEN PRESSING THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE. DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE TCM AGAIN. THIS MADE THE JERKING WORSE. DEALER RECORDED A SHUDDERING OF OVER 500RPM. I WAS PUT ON A WAITING LIST FOR A NEW CLUTCH (SECOND ONE). CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WHERE I ASKED FOR A RENTAL CAR WHILE THE NEW CLUTCH WAS ON ORDER (8-12 WEEKS). THEY TOLD ME THE CAR WAS "WITHIN DRIVE-ABLE SPECS" DESPITE THE SEVERE JERKING AND LACK OF ACCELERATION AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ME ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THE CAR WAS "SUPPOSED TO SHUDDER" AND IT IS A "DIFFERENT KIND OF TRANSMISSION" THAT I "JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND." THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VEHICLE AND FORD CAN'T SEEM TO FIX IT. INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION THEY TELL PEOPLE THAT THE ISSUES ARE "NORMAL." THE 2013 FORD FOCUS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED (IF THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ALREADY).

THEN WE TOOK IT BACK AGAIN TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND THE SAID THEY WOULD TEAR IT DOWN AND CLEAN IT AND CHECK IT OUT. IT WAS THERE FOR A FEW DAYS, WE PICKED IT UP AND A FEW DAYS LATER IT STARTED. EVEN THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS NOT GOING TO WORK AND THAT WE WOULD BE BACK. HE WAS RIGHT SO WE TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP, CARL GREGORY FORD IN AUBURN, AL AND THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THE SAME THING. SO AT THIS POINT WE NEED SOME HELP. THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AROUND 15K, ON JULY 13TH, 2013 I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER. THEY TRIED A REPROGRAM WHICH MADE IT WORSE AND THEN REPLACED THE CLUTCH. I GOT MY CAR BACK ON AUGUST 1ST, 2014 THE CAR WAS OUT OF MY POSSESSION FOR 18 DAYS. IF THE CAR FAILS TO ENGAGE WHEN I AM MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN OR MERGING INTO TRAFFIC, I AM GOING TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION. THAT MEANS THIS CAR IS PUTTING ME, MY PASSENGERS, AND OTHER DRIVERS AT RISK. SO FAR, FORD HAS ONLY OFFERED ME OPTIONS FOR BUYING A NEW FORD WITH LITTLE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND NO WAY TO GUARANTEE A NEW CAR WILL NOT HAVE THE SAME ISSUES.
BOUGHT A NEW FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK. TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS FROM THE START. HESITATES AND JERKS WITH GRINDING SOUNDS. TOOK TO DEALER TWICE AND THEY DID NOTHING. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION SHAKES, JERKS, MISS-SHIFTS, AND MAKES NOISES ON STARTS FROM DEAD STOP. IT IS HORRIBLE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC SITUATIONS. I'VE HAD IT SERVICED TWICE AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP, AND THE CAR RUNS WELL LEAVING THE SHOP, ONLY TO RETURN TO THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROBLEMS WITHIN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. I AS WELL AS ALL OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEMS, AND THE RESPONSE I HAVE GOTTEN FROM FORD'S REPRESENTATIVES IS THAT IT IS JUST A MINOR IRRITATION AND NOT A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I BEG TO DIFFER WITH FORD IN THAT IT IS A SERIOUS DEFECT, WHICH IS POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS. *TR

TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE AT A STOP OR SLOW SPEED WILL NOT PROPERLY GO TO THE 1ST GEAR SPEED TRIES TO JERK AND STOP ALSO ROLLS BACK ON A SMALL INCLINE WHEN STOPPED ON A HILL FOR A RED LIGHT .MUST STEP ON GAS ALOT SO I DON'T ROLL BACKWARDS WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN. VERY BAD JERKING WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY.I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FORM THE VERY FIRST DAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE THAT CONTINUED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE DEALER (REYNOLDS MOTOR CO, 1900 AVENUE OF THE CITIES, EAST MOLINE, IL 61244, 1 (888) 602-3869) WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE AND DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE ABNORMAL NOISE CONTINUED TO COME FROM THE STEERING AREA AS THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS STORED FOR MORE THAN TWO YEARS DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
THIS COMPLAINT APPLIES TO THE FOCUS ELECTRIC. WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT, GOING APPROXIMATELY 5MPH, THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY LOST POWER, THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AND I COASTED THE CAR TO A HALT AT THE SIDE OF THE LOT ENTRANCE. NO OTHER WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE, IT ALSO COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF. USUALLY, PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON TO TURN THE CAR OFF DISCONNECTS THE HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY FROM THE REST OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND SHUTS THE CAR DOWN, BUT IN THIS SITUATION IT WOULD JUST CAUSE THE WARNING BELL AND "STOP SAFELY NOW" LIGHT TO POP UP AGAIN IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AFTER MAYBE 45 MINUTES, RIGHT AS THE TOW-TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED, I WAS SUDDENLY ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF BY PRESSING THE BUTTON. IT THEN FUNCTIONED NORMALLY WHEN TURNED BACK ON. LUCKILY I WAS IN A REASONABLY SAFE SITUATION WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. HOWEVER, MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS EXIST FOR THE FOCUS ELECTRIC (MANY MORE IN PUBLIC FORUMS THAN HERE), AND THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY AND IN TRAFFIC FOR SOME PEOPLE. CLEARLY THE ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
