I HAVE EXPERIENCED MY SECOND CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. *TR
THE CAR LUNGES/LURCHES (ACCELERATES SUDDENLY) ON IT'S OWN RANDOMLY, USUALLY RIGHT AFTER PUTTING INTO GEAR, ESPECIALLY IN REVERSE, BUT ALSO IN DRIVE. COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE. I HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE WHEN I START TO GO BECAUSE I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL LURCH AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR INJURE SOMEONE. IT SEEMS TO BE WORSE WHEN THE AC IS RUNNING, BUT THAT ISN'T ALWAYS THE CASE, EITHER. MY 17 YEAR-OLD SON IS EXPERIENCING IT, TOO, AND IS UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING IT. *TT

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

2005 FORD FREESTYLE SEL. 76,000 MILES. RIGHT REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM SHEERED OFF FROM FRAME AT MOUNTING POINT WHILE TRAVELING AT ~20 MPH ON RESIDENTIAL STREET. THE FAILURE POINT WAS THE SHEET METAL ON THE FRAME WHERE THE CONTROL ARM ATTACHES TO, NOT THE ACTUAL CONTROL ARM. *TR
THIS HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY. FIRST NOTICED SUMMER 2010. HAVE AROUND 80,000 MILES NOW. VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD. RPM SPIKES DURING DRIVING EVERY DAY NO MATTER WHAT SPEED DRIVING TO 3K-4K. VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD AT SLOW SPEEDS AS WELL. HAVE HIT THE SIDE OF MY GARAGE WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE WHILE PARKING AND BANGED UP THE BUMPER PRETTY BAD AS WELL AS GARAGE. VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD DURING SUMMER WHEN AC WAS ON, ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR, BUT SEEMS TO HAPPEN REGARDLESS OF AC OR HEAT ON OR OFF. FORD DEALER REPORTED NO PROBLEM DURING LAST CHECK UP. WHILE GOING ABOUT 75MPH ON INTERSTATE I459, MY FORD FREESTYLE SLOWED DOWN ACCORDING TO THE DRIVER BEHIND ME AND I WAS REAR ENDED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS MAY HAVE BEEN DUE TO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS.
I OWN A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 74K MILES. A FEW MONTHS AGO I NOTICED THAT WHILE SHIFTING FROM P TO D OR R WITH THE FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL THE CAR WOULD LUNGE FORWARD/BACKWARD WITH ENOUGH FORCE THAT IT WOULD MOVE A FOOT OR TWO. THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES BUT INTERMITTENTLY. THE LAST TIME THE WRENCH LIGHT ALSO CAME ON BUT DISAPPEARED AFTER I RESTATED THE CAR. THE PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO WITH 65K. LUCKILY ALL TIMES I EITHER CAUGHT THE LUNGING ON TIME AND INCREASED THE BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE OR I WAS LUCKY THAT NO CAR WAS IN FRONT/BACK. ONE TIME MY FRIEND SAW THE LUNGING WHILE WAITING FOR ME TO FINISH PARKING AND WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF ME HITTING SOMEONE ACCIDENTALLY. I HAVEN'T TAKEN IT TO THE MECHANIC YET THINKING THAT IT'S JUST AN ELECTRONIC MISHAP THAT WOULD DISAPPEAR UPON RESTARTING THE CAR, BUT I JUST FOUND OUT THAT MANY FREESTYLE OWNERS ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS! *TR

I FILED A COMPLAINT ON JANUARY 3RD, 2012 AND NEVER HEARD BACK FROM ANYONE REGARDING THIS. IT IS STILL HAPPENING AND IS STILL AN ISSUE. MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT NUMBER IS 10442220. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO INFORMED HER THAT THEY WERE INVESTIGATING THE FAILURE. THEY OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
WHILE SITTING IDLE WAITING IN LINE AT A DRIVE THROUGH CHRISTMAS LIGHT DISPLAY, THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON IN THE CAR. AFTER LIGHT CAME ON, COULD NOT DRIVE FASTER THAN 35 MPH. TOOK CAR TO PARKWAY FORD IN WINSTON SALEM WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT ENTIRE CVT WAS RUINED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. $5,700.00 FOR A REFURBISHED CVT. BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS NOW ON THIS WEBSITE, SEEMS FORD NEEDS TO TAKE SOME ACTION AND RECALL AS I AM SURE THAT THERE ARE PLENTY OF AFFECTED OWNERS THAT AREN'T AWARE OF THIS PROCESS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE THIRD TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALER THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE DOOR LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED ONE TIME ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD HAVE TO BE COVERED BY THE CONTACT BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 .

MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 48000 MILES ON SUDDENLY NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER GAVE AN OPTION OF SPENDING A $1000 DOLLARS TO "POSSIBLY" FIX IT BUT CANNOT GUARANTEE ELSE WE HAVE TO SPEND $5500 ON A NEW TRANSMISSION. SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH FORD IF AFTER 5 YEARS I HAVE TO SPEND OVER $5K ON A NEW TRANNY AND NOTHING IS COVERED. BASICALLY I PAY IT OR HAVE NO CAR THAT WILL DRIVE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THIS DID NOT MEAN THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE IT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79000.
SOMETIMES WHEN PUTTING THE CAR IN GEAR FROM PARK THE MOTOR SURGES. ALSO IT SURGES WHEN STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN OR WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY LATELY.
I AM EXPERIENCING A SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN IDLING, PARKING, AND PLACING THE CAR IN REVERSE THAT RESULTS IN THE CAR LUNGING FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON. TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME WHEN THE CAR WAS PUT INTO REVERSE, THE CAR ACCELERATED, LUNGED, STALLED AND THE ENGINE FAIL-SAFE WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IN EACH CASE, THE MOVEMENT OF THE CAR IS SIGNIFICANT AND HAS BEEN STOPPED BY QUICKLY STEPPING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL.

THROTTLE BODY REPLACED AFTER CAR DID NOT START - 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. PRIOR TO REPLACEMENT, JERKING/LURCHING OF THE VEHICLE ONCE STARTED AND FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. HESITATED TO START ON MANY OCCASIONS IF CAR IS PARKED ON AN INCLINE AS IF NO GASOLINE IN VEHICLE. ALSO, ON OCCASIONS, CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET, BUT STARTED UP AFTER SEVERAL TRIES. DURING REPLACEMENT, FORD REPRESENTATIVE INDICATED THAT THE PART JUST WENT OUT - NOTHING COULD HAVE PREVENTED IT. COST $600+ TO FIX WHICH ALSO CAUSED ADDITIONAL PARTS (SPARK PLUGS, FUEL SENSOR) REQUIRED. DIAGNOSIS INDICATED, THROTTLEBODY PLATES STUCK, FUEL SENSOR INJECTOR PRESSURE REPLACED). DEALERSHIP KEPT OLD PARTS EXCEPT SPARK PLUGS. *TR
AT THE START OF THE WINTER HERE IN MINNESOTA, THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR ON OUR 2005 FORD FREESTYLE WOULD FAIL TO LATCH INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THIS WOULD OCCUR, THERE WAS NOTHING TO PREVENT THE DOOR FROM SWINGING OPEN WHILE DRIVING. FORD ISSUED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE (06S45) IN 2006 TO "FIX" THIS KNOWN DEFECT ON THE 2005 FORD FREESTYLE BUT IT IS CLEAR THAT THE "FIX" IS NOT PREVENTING THE PROBLEM FROM REOCCURRING. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PREDICT WHEN THE FAILURE TO LATCH WILL OCCUR AND RESULTS IN A HIGHLY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHICH PUTS THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGERS THE VEHICLE IN PERIL.
I BOUGHT A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE USED WITH 81,000 MILES A COUPLE MONTHS LATER IT BEGAN TO SURGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD WITH THE BRAKE ON. THEN AT 98,000 MILES WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FOUR-LANE THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY QUIT. I HAD IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE SAYING THE TRANSMISSION IS GONE AND HAS TO BE REPLACED (FOR $6000). OBVIOUSLY FROM ALL THE COMPLAINTS THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, WHY ISN'T FORD DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. ARE THEY WAITING ON SOMEBODY TO DIE FIRST??? *TR
CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN MY FREESTYLE 2005 AT 83000 MILES. THE CAR HAS GONE INTO A "SAFE" TRANSMISSION MODE OR JUST STOPPED ALMOST EVERY MONTH FOR 6 MONTHS. FORD WANTED $ 6500 TO PUT IN AN ENTIRELY NEW TRANSMISSION. I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY REBUILT IT. SAME PROBLEM IS HAPPENING AGAIN. FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS WITH THE TRANSMISSION MANUFACTURER AND FIGURE THIS OUT OR PUT OUT A RECALL ON THIS TRANSMISSION - THAT IS NO LONGER BEING USED. *TR
ALL WHEEL DRIVE MALFUNCTION MESSAGE CAME UP. THE MESSAGE WOULD NOT CLEAR. REMAINS ON CONSTANTLY. RESULT IS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE ONLY, CREATES UNSAFE DRIVING IN SNOW OR SLICK STREETS. WENT TO THE DEALER AND HE SAID IT WAS A SENSOR AND WOULD COST $500.00 BUT EXPECT THAT PRICE TO SNOWBALL. PRICE WILL SNOWBALL?? WHAT KIND OD DIAGNOSIS IS THAT. I WILL TRY TO FIX IT BUT IT WILL SURELY COST YOU A LOT MORE BECAUSE WE CAN'T PINPOINT THE EXACT CAUSE. IT COULD BE THIS, THAT, THAT, WE DON'T KNOW. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
THE DASH BOARD INFO READS SAFE MODE (ENGINE FAILURE) THE LITE AND A WRENCH APPEAR ON THE DATA ON THE DASH. THE VEHICLE MOTOR STILL ON GOES DOWN TO 1 TO 3 MPH WHILE DRIVING, ON STREET OR FREEWAY, THE CAR HAVE TO BE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED AND PROCEEDS TO RUN FOR AWHILE AND DOES THE SAME THING AND NO ONE CAN SEEM TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS.IT HAVE BEEN WORKED ON BY LICENSE MECHANICS SEVERAL TIMES AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE.. WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE FROM PARK, MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE WILL LUNGE UNCONTROLLABLY. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS EVERYTIME, BUT HAPPENS OFTEN ENOUGH TO POSE A SAFETY RISK TO OTHERS AND THOSE IN THE CAR. *TR
PURCHASED THE CAR USED FROM FORD DEALERSHIP. I HAD BEEN FOLLOWING A FRIEND ON IH10 IN EAST TEXAS. FRIEND HAD PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD, I PULLED IN BEHIND HIM. I STAYED IN MY CAR WITH AC RUNNING FOR APPROX 10 MINUTES I PUT THE CAR IN GEAR AND STARTED TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO OVER 20 MPH. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. MY FRIEND SAW ME AND PULLED HIS VEHICLE OVER AND CAME BACK TO CHECK ON ME. I STARTED THE CAR BACK UP TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY THE ACCELERATOR WAS RACING EVEN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE COMPUTER SAID IT WAS RUNNING IN SAFE MODE. ON JULY 2 2012 I TOOK MY SON TO AIRPORT. I PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT ,WE HAD SET IN THE CAR IN PARK WITH ENGINE AND AC RUNNING FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES.. WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE THE ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK AND WITH MY BRAKES STILL APPLIED THE CAR LUNGED BACKWARD ACCELERATOR RUNNING FULL FORCE. THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT ENGAGED BY ME AND I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF TO STOP THE ACCELERATION. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND OPERATING IN SAFE MODE. THIS IS VERY UNNERVING AND I THINK COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT HAD ANY CARS BEEN AROUND ME. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT, HAVE AN APPT TO BRING IT BACK IN ON JULY 9 TO HAVE THEM FIX IT. I GOT ON THE WEBSITE OF FORD TODAY FOR ANY RECALLS THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN CALLED FOR MY CAR-DIDN'T SEE ANY FOR THIS TYPE PROBLEM. HOWEVER IN RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM I FOUND A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAD REPORTED IT. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND QUICKLY BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED-AND I PRAY ITS NOT ME. THE DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING ME $85 TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC THEY ALREADY KNOWS EXISTS. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL, NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED OR FIXED. *JS
2005 FORD FREESTYLE HAS "AWD MALFUNCTION" MESSAGE (FORD DIAGNOSTIC CODE: P1889). MALFUNCTION MESSAGE COMES ON SPORADICALLY. NO CLEAR REASON FOR THE MALFUNCTION. HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING OR IDLING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE VEHICLE REVERTS TO 2WD. THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING (ESPECIALLY IN WET, SNOWY, ICY CONDITIONS) AND HAPPENS UNEXPECTEDLY. HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER, WITH NO SUCCESS IN FIXING. THE DEALER FOLLOWED WHAT FORD SAYS TO DO ACCORDING TO THE CODE AND CAN'T FIX PROBLEM. DEALER HAS REPLACED OIL PRESSURE AND TEMP SENSOR WITH NO CHANGE IN ISSUE. NOW WANTS TO TRY TO CHANGE THE TRACTION COUPLER AT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WITHOUT ANY GUARANTEE THAT WILL WOK EITHER. FORD DOES NOT HAVE A CLEAR FIX FOR ISSUE AND WILL NOT COVER COSTS OF REPAIRS FOR AWD DEFECT.

WHEN DRIVING MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE DOWN THE ROAD THE ENTIRE CLUSTER WILL START CUTTING OUT ALL THE LIGHTS WILL COME ON. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING 30 MILE PER HOUR. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF MY VEHICLE, A FEW SECONDS LATER I RESTARTED MY VEHICLE THE LIGHTS STILL CAME ON THEY STAYED ON FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND THEN STAYED OFF FOR ABOUT A 9 DAYS. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED THEY STAYED ON FOR 4 DAYS. I CALLED OUR NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP THE SAME DAY THEY CAME ON AND WAS TOLD IT COULD BE THE BATTERY CAUSING IT OR COULD BE THE CLUSTER CUTTING OUT. WE CHECKED AND CLEANED OUR BATTERY WHICH IS ONLY 9 MONTHS OLD. IT WAS NOT THE BATTERY. THEN ON THE 4TH DAY ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS IN THE CLUSTER WENT OFF EXCEPT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AFTER A DAY OR SO IT TO WENT OUT. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THIS THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK WHEN THIS OCCURS. ...I FEEL THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY ON THE CURVY AND WINDING ROADS WHERE I LIVE. AND IT IS A PROBLEM I THOROUGHLY CHECKED OUT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEM WITH THIS ISSUE YET FORD HAS NOT HAD A RECALL ON IT OR THE OTHER PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY (LURCHING AND SURGING). I OWN A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE AND ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO, WHEN EVER I WOULD BACK OUT OF MY GARAGE OR PULL INTO THE GARAGE AT A SLOW SPEED, SOMETIMES THE CAR WOULD LUNGE UNEXPECTEDLY EITHER FORWARD OR BACKWARD DEPENDING ON IF I WAS BACKING OUT OR PULLING INTO MY GARAGE. IT OCCURRED AT LEAST 3 OR 4 TIMES PER WEEK UNTIL IT FINALLY GOT SO BACK THAT MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AT THAT POINT, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHARGED ME OVER $600 TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ON THE CAR. THIS DID RESOLVE THE ISSUE SOMEWHAT, BUT AT LEAST A COUPLE OF TIMES A MONTH I STILL EXPERIENCE THIS LUNGING OF THE CAR, BUT IT IS NOT AS DRAMATIC AS IT WAS BEFORE THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. I WAS REALLY WORRIED ABOUT THIS ISSUE AS WE HAVE A LOT OF KIDS THAT LIKE TO PLAY AROUND OUR HOUSE AND I WAS ALWAYS WORRIED I WAS GOING TO RUN INTO ONE OF THEM WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE SO I HAD TO MAKE SURE I KEPT ONE FOOT ON THE BREAK JUST IN CASE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE AND IT IS SOMETHING THAT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE PUBLIC. ALSO, MY WIFE HAS A 2006 FORD 500 AND IT EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS AND WE HAD TO GET THE THROTTLE BODY FIXED ON IT AS WELL. I SPENT OVER $1,000 WITHIN THE SPAN OF A FEW MONTHS ON THE SAME ISSUE IN TWO DIFFERENT FORD VEHICLES. THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE THROTTLE BODY MECHANISM AND FORD NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION THEY HAVE PUT CAR OWNERS IN AND THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REFUND THE COST OF ANYONE WHO HAS ALREADY SPENT $600 OR $700 TO FIX THEIR THROTTLE BODY. I HAD THEM REPLACED AT MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP; IT WAS STILL UNDER THE 3 YEAR/ 36,000 MILES WARRANTY. NOW, A YEAR AND A HALF LATER THE BRAKES ARE GRINDING AGAIN AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON IT BUT IS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY. THE BRAKES SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE REPLACED THIS OFTEN. HOWEVER, IN JULY 2007 WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD STATING THAT THE REAR BRAKES WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE ORIGINAL 3 YEAR/ 36,000 MILES WARRANTY. THIS RAISES A RED FLAG THAT FORD KNEW ABOUT THE BRAKE ISSUES BUT DID NOTHING ABOUT IT, AND STILL HASN'T DONE ANYTHING. *TR

HAVE BEEN HAVING ONGOING PROBLEM WITH CAR LUNGING, SUDDEN ACCELERATION ESPECIALLY WHEN STOPPED. TODAY IT STARTED AND A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON BUT WENT AWAY WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF.
