FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT FAILS EVERY 2 FILL UPS. *TR
COMPONENT: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DETAILS: 2005 FORD FREESTYLE - I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE, WHEN MOVING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE DASH COMES ON AND WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS, THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE. FINALLY, AFTER "FLOORING IT", THE CAR MOVED SLOWLY UNTIL APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR APPROXIMATELY EVERY 6 MONTHS OR 8000-10000 MILES. FORD HAS CHANGED THE SAME PARTS EVERY TIME AND THE PROBLEM STILL RECURS. IT IS IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 2 WEEKS AGAIN. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT FORD REFUSES TO CHANGE OUT THE TRANSMISSION, ONLY REPLACE THE SAME PARTS EVERY TIME. I'M BEWILDERED AND DISAPPOINTED IN FORDS CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE INABILITY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. WHEN PROCEEDING FROM A COMPLETE STOP AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL THERE WAS A REDUCTION IN THE ENGINE POWER SIGNIFICANTLY. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH CAUTION. THERE WERE TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THAT THE "FAIL SAFE MODE" AND "ENGINE" WARNING LIGHT INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO STATED THAT THE PART WAS ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THE VEHICLE IS INOPERABLE AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTIONS. THERE WERE CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISKS INVOLVED AND THE UNCERTAINTY OF THE AVAILABILITY OF THE PART. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 51,870.
I HEARD ABOUT THE 2005-2007 FORD FREESTYLE INVESTIGATION REGARDING SUDDEN ACCELERATION. MY WIFE DRIVES A 2005 FREESTYLE. THIS SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO ME WHEN I HAVE DRIVEN HER CAR. MY FOOT HAS BEEN ON THE BRAKE SO IT HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE ACCELERATION IS PRONOUNCED AND IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. I HAVE NOT NOTICED THIS HAPPENING FOR A WHILE HOWEVER. MAYBE COMPUTER UPDATES AT THE DEALERSHIP HAVE ALREADY CORRECTED THIS? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT NOTICED THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL APPLYING EXCESSIVE PRESSURE UNTIL THE BRAKES RESPONDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE, BUT SUGGESTED HAVING THE BRAKES REPLACED. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED THREE TIMES BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A MANUFACTURER RECALL BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH SNOW AND SLUSHY STREETS, THE TRAFFIC AHEAD OF ME STOPPED. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE ABS ACTIVATED FOR ABOUT 1 SECOND AND THEN I HAD NO BRAKES AT ALL. NO MATTER HOW HARD I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THERE WAS NO ABS ACTIVITY AND NO BRAKES. FORTUNATELY I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 5 MPH. I STRUCK THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. IT HAD NO DAMAGE BUT I HAD A BROKEN BUMPER COVER ($1300 TO REPAIR). I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM TO HAVE THE ABS AND BRAKES CHECKED. THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I WROTE A LETTER TO FORD, EXPLAINING WHAT HAPPENED. THEY SAID THEY WERE FORWARDING MY LETTER TO THEIR ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT FOR EVALUATION. I HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM THEM YET. *TR
WE GET A "AWD MALFUNCTION" SHOWING UP ON THE DASH. THEY WANT OVER $5,000 FOR THE REPAIR. THE CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND VALUE IS ONLY ABOUT $11,000. AS I READ ONLINE, THERE COULD BE MORE WRONG PAST THIS BECAUSE SOME HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND NEXT THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO GET REPLACED ALSO. SO THE FIST "FIX" COST US $500+ AND THEN THEY SAID IT WOULD BE ANOTHER $5,000+. *TR
WHEN THE WEATHER HERE DROPPED TO THE TEENS, THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH. YOU COULD OPEN IT, GET IN, THEN NOT BE ABLE TO CLOSE IT. *TR
I OWN A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE WHICH HAVE REAR BRAKE ISSUES, I RECEIVED A LETTER IN JULY 07 TELLING ME OF A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH MY REAR BRAKE PADS THAT THEY MAY HAVE GOTTEN WET AND EXPANDED WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE PADS TO DRAG ON ROTORS AND WEAR OUT SOONER. SO I TOOK INTO A FORD DEALER THEY REPLACED MY PADS AND ROTORS FOR THE REAR BRAKES ONLY, THIS WAS AT AROUND 30000 MILES. I NOW HAVE 48900 MILES ON THE CAR AND MY REAR BRAKES ARE COMPLETELY WORN TO THE METAL ON THE PAD. I TRIED TO TALK WITH FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT WAS SENT RIGHT BACK TO THE DEALER WHICH SAID THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME WITH THE REPLACEMENT THE REAR BRAKE PADS. I UNDERSTAND BY READING YOUR WEBSITE THAT BRAKE PADS ARE NOT CONSIDERED SAFETY RELATE ISSUE BUT SEARCHING THE INTERNET RELATE TO FORD FREE STYLE REAR BRAKE ISSUES I WAS VERY SURPRISE TO FIND OTHERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. THEY ARE EVEN TALKING ABOUT REAR CALIPERS THAT ARE LOCKING UP AND NOT ALLOWING THE PADS TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE ROTORS, SO THERE NOT DRAGGING AND WEARING OUT WHICH IS WHAT I BELIEF HAS HAPPEN IN MY CASE. I AM TRYING TO FIND HELP IN RESOLVING THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE OF ALL THE COST RELATED TO THIS REPAIR HAVING TO BE DONE IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF MILES BETWEEN REPAIRS AND BEFORE IT DOES BECOME A FAILURE AND DOES CAUSE SOMEONE TO LOSE THERE LIFE. OH I DO HAVE TO SAY THAT MY FRONT BRAKES WHICH TAKE MOST OF THE BRAKING HAS 48900 MILES ON THEM AND I AM JUST REPLACING THEM. THROUGH MY OWN RESEARCH I UNDERSTAND THAT GM ESCAPED THIS REAR BRAKE DESIGN THAT THE 2005 FORD FREESTYLE HAS BECAUSE OF ALL THE ISSUES AND PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH ITS DESIGN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE DRIVER SIDE POWER LOCKING DEVICE, AND DOOR LATCH FAILED TO FUNCTION. AS A CONSEQUENCE THE DOOR WOULD NOT FULLY CLOSE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE WEATHER TEMPERATURES WERE COOL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED ACCORDING TO RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V383000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH). THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
IN COLD WEATHER FRONT DOORS DO NOT LATCH . NOT ABLE TO CLOSE AND DOORS OPEN WHILE DRIVING. THIS ITEM WAS A FORD RECALL WORKED FOR ONE SEASON . FORD CLAIMS ITEM THE LATCH WERE REPAIRED AND RECALL WAS HONORED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE HELP! *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 27K MILES. I WAS DRIVING AT 40 MPH. I ACCELERATED SLIGHTLY TO MAINTAIN MY SPEED UP A SLIGHT GRADE. I HEARD A CLUNK FROM THE TRANSMISSION AREA UNDER THE DASH AND THEN THE CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION. I HAD ENOUGH SPEED TO COAST TO A CHURCH PARKING LOT WHERE I PARKED. THE ENGINE WAS IDLING NORMALLY, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT REV HIGHER WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND CHECK TRANSMISSION INDICATOR WERE DISPLAYED. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN RESTARTED IT. IT IDLED NORMALLY BUT I STILL COULDN'T REV THE ENGINE IN PARK OR NEUTRAL. THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND CHECK TRANSMISSION INDICATOR WERE STILL DISPLAYED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION, CLUTCH, AND AXLE AT A COST OF $5885. THE CAR IS OVER 3 YEARS OLD AND OUT OF WARRANTY SO I WAS LIABLE FOR THIS COST. NEITHER FORD NOR THE DEALER WOULD ASSUME ANY LIABILITY FOR THIS DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION. TWICE I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER, WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY, THAT THE CAR WAS MAKING A WHINING SOUND AS I ACCELERATED AND THE NOISE GREW LOUDER AS THE SPEED INCREASED. HE COULDN'T HEAR ANYTHING, EITHER TIME. I HAVE THE WORK ORDERS TO PROVE IT. I ASSUMED IT WAS PROBABLY ROAD NOISE DUE TO TIRE WEAR. THE WHINING SOUND HAS DISAPPEARED SINCE THE NEW TRANSMISSION WAS INSTALLED. *TR
I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK ON NOVEMBER 6, 2008. THIRTY MINUTES LATER, WHILE DRIVING, MY GAS GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY AND THE FUEL WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS SO FRIGHTENED BY THIS, SO I DO NOT KNOW IF ANYTHING ELSE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS AFFECTED. MY SON WAS SCREAMING AT ME TO PULL OVER AND STOP, BUT THERE WAS NOWHERE TO STOP. ON NOVEMBER 7, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM. I HAVE OWNED MY FREESTYLE FOR 3 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS. IT ONLY HAS 28,405 MILES ON IT. I ALSO HAVE THE NEW BASECARE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY CHARGED ME $94.00 FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS. I WAS TOLD THE FUEL SENSOR IS BAD. IT WILL COST $400.00 TO REPLACE IT, AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER IT. I HAD TO REFUSE THIS COSTLY JOB. I AM TROUBLED THAT THE FREESTYLE HAS A DEFECTIVE FUEL SENSOR, AND EVEN MORE UPSET THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS USELESS. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL FEATURE NEEDED TO BE DEACTIVATED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT DEACTIVATED THE TRACTION CONTROL FEATURE BUT IT DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. WHEN THE WEATHER IS VERY COLD, THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LATCH WOULD STICK AND NOT REMAIN SHUT. IT TOOK THE CONTACT 45 MINUTES OF PLAYING WITH THE DOOR TO GET IT TO REMAIN CLOSED. THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE LATCH LINKAGE SYSTEM. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 32,000.
THIS FREESTYLE HAS SURGED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE PURCHASE. WE REPLACE A FAILED THROTTLE BODY IN 2010. RECENTLY IN SHOP IN 9/11 FOR NONSTART. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN 2 LANE ROAD AT APPROX. 40MPH WITH MY 7YR OLD DAUGHTER. THE VAN SUDDENLY WENT INTO NEUTRAL, THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS, NOISES ETC. I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO PARKING LOT, THE VAN WAS RUNNING BUT WOULD NOT GO INTO ANY GEAR. WAS TOWED TO MY HOME AND CALLED FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS VAN AND PROBABLE NEED NEW TRANSMISSION. QUOTED AT APPROX $1,600.00-2,000.00. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
HEARD THUMPING IT WAS THE REAR U-JOINTS IN AN ALL WHEEL DRIVE BOTH U-JOINTS WERE SHOT> NOW THE FRONT U-JOINTS ARE BAD AND MAKE THE DRIFT DANGEROUSLY, BOTH NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE REAR ONES WERE DONE LAST YEAR 12/10/2007. THE FRONT ONES WILL BE DONE 10/18/2008. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO A 2005 CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN NO PRESSURE WAS BEING APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE BRAKES WERE EFFECTIVE IN STOPPING THE VEHICLE DURING THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IDLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY LOCATED A FAILURE WITHIN THE EGR VALVE AND MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION OPEN UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,600. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
SOMETIMES WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE OR DRIVE AND I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD OR BACKWARDS WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THE GAS. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. IT IS UNCONTROLLABLE AND SOMEONE CAN GET HURT. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED AND THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS. NOW, IN ADDITION TO THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM, THE CAR WILL JUST LOSE POWER WHILE I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND I HAVE TO HOPE TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE TO TURN THE TRUCK OFF AND THEN TRY RESTARTING A FEW TIMES TO GET IT GOING AGAIN. THESE ARE CONTINUING PROBLEMS FOR MYSELF AND MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE AND FORD IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT.
WHEN DRIVING MY 2005 FREESTYLE I LOST ALL POWER WHILE GOING 70MPH AND WAS ABLE TO PULL IT OFF THE ROAD AFTER ALMOST BEING HIT FROM BEHIND BY A SEMI TRUCK. TURNED KEY TO OFF POSITION AND RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. DID THE SAME THING A WEEK LATER. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. WAS TOLD IT MOST LIKELY WAS A BAD "THROTTLE BODY", BUT THEY COULD DO NOTHING UNTIL IT DID IT FOR THEM. HAS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES SINCE. *TR

THE PROBLEM BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE SINCE SEPTEMBER 2008. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000.
WHILE DRIVING CAR GIVES A SERIES OF KICKS, LOSS OF POWER AND CAR ENTERS LIMP MODE, MESSAGE STATES FAILSAFE MODE. ONCE YOU ARE ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND SAFELY PULL OVER NORMAL RESET BY TURNING CAR OFF AND TURNING BACK ON AND CAR IS ONCE AGAIN MOBILE UNDER NORMAL DRIVE MODE. *TR
IN JULY OF 2005 I PURCHASED A NEW FORD FREESTYLE. SINCE THEN, I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKES REPLACED EVERY 6 MONTHS, OR APPROXIMATELY EVERY 20,000 MILES (IT'S BEEN TO THE DEALER 6 TIMES FOR THIS VERY ISSUE). FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE IS AN ENGINEERING ISSUE WHERE THE REAR CALIPERS ARE NOT RELEASING AND CAUSING PREMATURE WEAR ON THE REAR BRAKE PADS. THEY ISSUED A RECALL "FIX" FOR THIS IN NOVEMBER OF 2007. WELL . . . 20,000 MILES LATER- IT'S STILL NOT FIXED. THE DEALER, NOW ON 8/21/08, REFUSES TO REPAIR THE REAR BRAKES EVEN THOUGH FAULTY ENGINEERING OR FAULTY PARTS (OR BOTH) WERE USED. THIS PROBLEM IS ONGOING AND THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF DATES THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKES REPLACED: 2/22/06, 7/20/06, 4/4/07, 8/2/07, 9/17/07, 11/26/07. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR BRAKING TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY LUNGE FORWARD. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER SPORADICALLY AND WOULD ENGAGE THE SAFE MODE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
WHILE DRIVING WITH MY 2 CHILDREN IN THE CAR, THE "THROTTLE BODY" WENT, LEAVING ME WITH NO POWER TO MY VEHICLE. WE WERE VERY LUCKY TO NOT HAVE BEEN INJURED OR INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN THE NEXT DAY TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND WAS FIXED IN 2 DAYS, WITH A NEW "ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY" BEING INSTALLED. ACCORDING TO BOTH THE FORD WEBSITE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE, THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN DO AS THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE?? *TR

I THOUGHT THIS WAS A FLUKE BUT THIS SAME THING HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE NOW. THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED NOW AT LEAST 4 TIMES. BIGGEST PROBLEM IS DETERMINING THE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE NEW IN JANUARY 2006. AFTER TWO YEARS I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE VARIOUS UNINTENDED ACCELERATIONS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT CHECKED OUT. THEIR WORK ORDER INDICATED THEY HAD PERFORMED AN "EEC TEST CODE P2106 (THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR), IT ALSO INDICATED A PIN POINT TEST QE1, QE9, AND THEY PROCEEDED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY". THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR SOME TIME AND AFTER A FEW MONTHS THE VEHICLE STARTED TO DO THE SAME THING AGAIN (ACCELERATION). THE PROBLEM REALLY GETS WORSE WITH THE A/C ON AND WHILE I TRY TO MANEUVER INTO PARKING SPACES OR WHILE I'M AT A FULL STOP WAITING TO TURN. I HAVE SINCE USED LESS MY VEHICLE. TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP THEY CHANGED OUT THE OTHER FUEL PUMP AS IT HAS 2. IT DID IT AGAIN SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. THEY HAVE CHANGED THE SENDING UNIT AND THEN THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED FREAKING OUT- SHOWING HALF A TAKE WHEN FULL AND GOING UP INSTEAD OF DOWN AFTER DRIVING IT. OVER A PERIOD OF ABOUT 2 SUMMERS, THE 2005 FORD FREESTYLE WOULD SURGE WHILE SITTING AT AN INTERSECTION OR SLOWING DURING THE APPROACH. THE SURGE WAS A RAPID ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE WHICH REQUIRED A HEAVY, OR A QUICK BRAKE. A QUICK RESPONSE WAS REQUIRED TO AVOID A REAR-END COLLISION, ENTERING AN INTERSECTION, OR STRIKING A PEDESTRIAN. THE SURGES SEEM TO BE RELATED TO THE OPERATION OF THE AIR CONDITIONER. THE CAR HAD GONE INTO A "FAIL-SAFE" MODE WHILE SITTING IN A DRIVE-THRU. I BEGAN USING THE AC SPARINGLY AND WOULD TURN OFF THE AC COMPLETELY WHEN DRIVING IN THE CITY OR APPROACHING AND INTERSECTION. HOWEVER, WHILE APPROACHING A TURN ON A STATE ROUTE, WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 55, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY SHUTDOWN LEAVING THE VEHICLE EXPOSED TO ON-COMING TRAFFIC. THE DATE LISTED BELOW IS AN APPROXIMATION. AROUND THE SAME TIME TOYOTA WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH "RUN-AWAY" VEHICLES, I CONTACTED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY ALERTING THEM OF THIS HAZARD.
