TL- THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE FORWARD OR REVERSE DEPENDING ON THE GEAR, THE RPNS WOULD GO UP. ON ONE OCCASION THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND HAD TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT THEY CHANGED THE CVT FLUID. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 60000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59990. JP
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR THE INSTRUMENT GAUGES WILL LOOSE POWER AND ALL READ ZERO FOR APPROX 10 SECONDS. THE AIR BAG LIGHT WILL ALSO COME ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROX 20 TIMES IN THE LAST 4 WEEKS. THE CAR AS A RESULT OF THIS HAS STALLED 2 TIMES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE OR DRIVE THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AT FORD'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE RECENTLY RECURRED. THE DEALER AND FORD WERE CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY COULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 77,000 WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS OR IDLING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD ONLY OCCUR IN HOTTER WEATHER TEMPERATURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
ON SUNDAY, MAY 18, 2008, AT APPROXIMATELY 11:15 AM, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING MY TWO (2) CHILDREN TO THE MALL WHICH IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY SIX (6) MILES FROM MY RESIDENCE. MY WIFE RELATED APPROXIMATELY ONE AND A HALF MILES FROM THE MALL SHE FELT A PULL IN THE FRONT END OF THE CAR AND THEN HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION. SHE ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO NO AVAIL. THE CAR WAS THEN PUSHED OFF THE ROADWAY. AFTER MOVING THE CAR A FEW METAL PARTS WERE SECURED FROM THE ROAD SURFACE. I DISCOVERED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD SUSTAINED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE BACK OF THE TRANSMISSION IS MISSING AS WELL AS THE PARTS CONTAINED WITHIN. THE DAMAGE TO THIS UNIT APPEARS TO BE CONSISTENT WITH DAMAGE CAUSED BY A DETONATION. MY WIFE RELATED THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS, NOISES OR MECHANICAL FAILURES OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. I REPORTED THIS MATTER TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. THEY SEEMED TO SHOW SOME LEVEL OF CONCERN AFTER SEEING THE FAILED PARTS AND OFFERED TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT FREE OF CHARGE. FORD LATER ACKNOWLEDGED THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY A FAILURE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED IN A RURAL AREA. BASED UPON THE AMOUNT OF MATERIAL WHICH BLASTED FROM THE TRANSMISSION, HAD THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED IN TOWN THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO SURROUNDING STRUCTURES, PROPERTY, AND PERSONS. IN CLOSING, THE FORD CORP. HAS OFFERED TO PAY ONLY HALF OF THE COST AT $2,100.00 TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE. IN MY OPINION THIS IS AN ADMISSION OF GUILT AS I DID NOT ASK FOR ANY ASSISTANCE, IT WAS VOLUNTEERED. I COUNTER OFFERED TO PAY ONLY THE LABOR COSTS AND REQUESTED AN ANSWER BY COB FRIDAY, MAY 23, 2008. IT IS NOT SURPRISING FORD FAILED TO RESPOND. ACCORDINGLY, I AM SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT AND REQUEST A RECALL OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS DUE TO THE RISK OF PUBLIC SAFETY. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2005 FREESTYLE AND HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES AT 19000 MILES TRIED TO FIND SNOW TIRES AND HAD BEEN TOLD THAT THERE'S NO SUCH THING MADE FOR THIS VEHICLE. JUST STREET TREAD WHAT ABOUT THAT , AND I HAD TO GIVE A ARM AND LEG TO BUY A SET OF NEW TIRES FOR THIS THING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE WOULD ABNORMALLY LUNGE FORWARD OF BACKWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES WHO STATED THAT THEY REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER ALSO CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AREA AND ANOTHER UNKNOWN COMPONENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SHUT OFF AND ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHICH ALSO CAUSED THE HEADLIGHTS TO FLASH ON AND OFF. HE NOTICED THE MALFUNCTION ON A FREQUENT BASIS AND OVER TIME IT HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE SINCE MAY 2008. HE HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO SAFETY RECALL, THEY COULD NOT ASSIST HIM WITH THE REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAD SEVERAL POWER INTERRUPTIONS - ALL GAUGES MOMENTARILY WENT TO ZERO SEVERAL TIMES AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. VEHICLE WOULD SURGE UNTIL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER POWER RETURNED TO NORMAL. DEALERSHIP REPLACED INSTRUMENT CLUSTER - NOT UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. *TR
MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE, 54K MILES, WOULD INTERMITTENTLY SURGE OR HESITATE WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. THIS WEEKEND THE CAR WOULD GO INTO FAIL SAFE MODE AND SHUT DOWN, WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP OR SLOWING TO A STOP. THE DEALER HAS REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY TODAY AND I POSTED A NOTE ON THE FREESTYLE FORUM TO WARN OTHERS ABOUT THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WAS CONTACTED BY DON WILLSON, OF THE VEXED VOLVOS.ORG ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE IN VOLVOS!!!! I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE IN MY FORD WAS DESIGNED BY VOLVO. IT APPEARS THAT THEY ARE STILL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH FAULTY THROTTLE BODIES THAT TELL THE CAR TO SHUT DOWN. *TR
BRAKES WERE GOING OUT, CAR WOBBLING BACK AND FORTH, GRINDING SOUNDS. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED OVER THE LAST 15 MONTHS. WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES ON THE BACK TWICE NOW AND THE FRONT TWICE, THE ROTORS TWICE ALSO. *TR
2005 FORD FREESTYLE, 2ND ROW SEAT PIVOT HINGE FAILURE TO ALLOW SEAT TO FOLD FORWARD. CONSTITUTES COMPROMISED SAFETY OF THIRD ROW PASSENGERS TO EXIT SAFELY, QUICKLY OR AT ALL. THERE IS NO WAY TO OPEN TAILGATE FROM INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. FORD CONTENDS THAT THE PIVOT HINGE IS A "WEAR OUT ITEM". ITEM SHOULD NEVER FAIL. *TR
SURGING/LURCHING UNEXPECTEDLY WITH MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. I TAKE MY CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. I ALMOST HIT A GROUP OF CHILDREN CROSSING IN FRONT OF ME DUE TO MY CAR SURGING UNEXPECTEDLY. I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY CAR FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND CHECKED PERIODICALLY FOR RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE. CONTACTING THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP AFTER OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP SHUT DOWN. I USED TO THINK FORD WAS A DECENT VEHICLE, I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER AMERICAN MADE VEHICLE. THE WARRANTIES SUCK ON THEM, AND THEY SELDOM ARE TRUE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS AND DO NOT TAKE CARE OF DEFECTIVE ISSUES IN A TIMELY MANNER IF EVER. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS IN MAY 2008. THE SURGING ISSUE HAS RECURRED MANY TIMES SINCE. AND IT IS GETTING WORSE. *TR
EXPERIENCED A LOUD SQUEAL FROM TRANSMISSION WHEN VEHICLE DRIVEN AT 40 MPH OR LESS. FOUND FLUID LEAK ON TRANSMISSION CASE. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO DEALER. WAS TOLD BY SERVICE REP THAT TRANSMISSION NEEDED UPGRADE TO NEW TRANSMISSION CASE BOLTS TO ADDRESS LEAKING PROBLEM AND UPGRADED GEARING TO ADDRESS SQUEAL. TOTAL COST ESTIMATE TO BE $4,000. *TR
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: WE DID HAVE A TERRIBLE PROBLEM WITH OUR 2005 FREESTYLE AND IT WAS IN THE FORD REPAIR SHOP ON AND OFF FOR OVER THREE MONTHS. THE FIRST TIME IT WENT IN WE PAID TO HAVE THE WORK DONE BUT WHEN IT STARTED LINKING AGAIN WE REFUSED TO PAY EVEN THOUGH OUR WARRANTY WAS UP AT THE TIME AND FORD AGREED NOT TO CHARGE US. AFTER CALLING FORD HEADQUARTERS TO COMPLAIN, THE MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP INTERVENED AND THEY ALSO GAVE US A LOANER CAR. I FIRST NOTICED A LEAK IN THE BACK (BUT I THINK IT WAS LEAKING MUCH LONGER THAN I REALIZED) AND THEY FIXED THE LEAK IN THE BACK AND THEN IT LEAKED IN THE FRONT. THIS WENT ON FOR SEVERAL WEEKS BUT I MUST TELL YOU THAT THEY DID FINALLY FIX IT. SORRY TO SAY, WE DID HAVE IT BACK LAST SPRING FOR ANOTHER LEAK IN THE FRONT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. ALTHOUGH I HAD GONE ONLINE AND SAW THAT SEVERAL OWNERS OF FREESTYLES HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, FORD NEVER ADMITTED THAT THERE WAS A FLAW IN THE DESIGN BUT I THINK BY AGREEING TO FIX IT FOR FREE IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THERE WAS A FLAW. WE PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM COLONIAL FORD IN DANBURY, CT AND THE WORK WAS ALL DONE IN THEIR REPAIR CENTER. *TR
THE CAR WILL REV UP AND JUMP FORWARD (OR BACKWARD). SOMETIMES STALLS AFTER JUMPING, WORSE WHEN AIR CONDITIONING IS ON. DEALERSHIP HAS SAID THERE IS NO PROBLEM THEY CAN FIND. SAW THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATIONS SO I DECIDED TO MAKE MY COMPLAINT OFFICIAL. *TR
MY REAR BRAKE SYSTEM ON MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE HAS GONE OUT 2 TIMES WITHIN 51,000 MILES AND THE STRUTS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED 3 TIMES. THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS COVERED AND REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

AS THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE FORWARD WITH A SUDDEN INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS. THE BRAKE WAS ENGAGED FIRMLY AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. UPDATED 06/16/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE THROTTLE WAS REPLACED, THERE WERE NO MORE PROBLEMS. UPDATED 06/24/11
HAD FRONT AND REAR BRAKES REPLACED AT 35,000 MILES NOW 14,000 MILES LATER REAR PADS AND ROTOR WORE OUT. FIRST TIME THEY SAID PAD GOT WET IN A WAREHOUSE. NOW THEY SAID IT IS MY PROBLEM BECAUSE WARRANTY IS UP, I SAY THEY DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM THEY JUST TRIED TO COVER IT UP. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SAY THEY HAVE NOT HAD ANY COMPLAINTS A LIE. HOW MANY DEATHS BEFORE THEY HEAR COMPLAINTS. *TR
MIDDLE SEATS IN FORD 2005 FREESTYLE. THE LATCHES BROKE IN BOTH SEATS. WHILE FOLDING THE SMALL MIDDLE SEAT TO REACH THE BACK SEAT AREA, IT WOULD NOT RELEASE AND OPEN UP FOR USE. THE CABLES AND BARS (S) BENT. THE SEATS HAVE ALWAYS OPENED HARD, AND WE HAD TO FIDDLE WITH THEM SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR, TO LATCH AND UNLATCH, IN SEPT 2005. BOTH LATCH UNITS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. OLD PARTS MAY NOT BE AVAIL. *TR
LOST OPERATION OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND WHEN THIS OCCURS THE BACK-UP LIGHTS OPERATE. THE DANGER IS WHEN POWER IS LOST IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER YOU DO NOT KNOW YOUR SPEED, THIS IS CRUCIAL WHEN DRIVING THROUGH SCHOOL ZONES. THE BACK-UP LIGHT CAUSE PEOPLE BEHIND MY CAR TO BELIEVE I AM BACKING-UP. ALSO WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LOOSES POWER. ALL THIS IS A DISTRACTION TO DRIVING. I HAVE ORDERED THE PART TO REPLACE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE DEALER INFORMED ME IT WILL TAKE OVER A MONTH TO RECEIVE THE PART. *TR
IN 2008 MY FORD FREESTYLE STARTED LUNGING FORWARD AT VERY LOW SPEEDS WHEN IN GEAR WITHOUT EITHER THE BRAKE OR ACCELERATOR PEDAL APPLIED. IF I APPLIED THE BRAKES, IT STOPPED THE CAR RIGHT AWAY, BUT IF I WAS SITTING WITH THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE OR REVERSE AND DIDN'T HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY LUNGE - AND THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT WAS TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES. I AM JUST LUCKILY WE NEVER HIT ANYONE. IT SEEMED TO HAPPEN AFTER IT RAINED. A LOCAL (NON FORD) MECHANIC STATED THAT HE BELIEVED THE ECM WAS GETTING WET AND CORROSION WAS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. AFTER HE ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM (HE CLEANED AND TIGHTENED PINS, SEALED WITH TERMINAL SEALER/CORROSION INHIBITOR), THE PROBLEM COMPLETELY STOPPED. NOW, 4 YEARS LATER, IT'S DOING IT AGAIN. BUT THAT MECHANIC IS NO LONGER IN BUSINESS AND I AM WORRIED THAT THIS IS A CHRONIC (AND SCARY) PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THIS MORNING MY VEHICLE LUNGED SUDDENLY BACKWARDS OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, RIGHT INTO THE SIDEWALK WHERE CHILDREN WERE PASSING. I HAD STOPPED MY CAR, LET UP THE BRAKE AND IT LUNGED. NO ONE WAS HURT BUT I NO LONGER FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING IT. I HOPE THAT YOU CAN INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM AND PROVIDE ME WITH AN UPDATE (AND A SOLUTION!). WE LOVE THE VEHICLE OTHERWISE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. ON MARCH 30, 2008, WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, ALL THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES DROPPED TO ZERO. APPROXIMATELY 1/3 OF A MILE LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED, BUT THE GAUGES RETURNED BACK TO NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOR THE THIRD TIME A SHORT WHILE LATER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HAVE THE OIL CHECKED AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO ERROR CODE. APPROXIMATELY THREE DAYS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER, BUT THEY FOUND NO FAILURES. ON APRIL 9, 2008, THE FAILURE RECURRED FOR THE FIFTH TIME AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK. AFTERWARDS, EVERY RED WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE MILEAGE DIAL BEGAN MOVING SPORADICALLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD STILL NOT FIND ANY FAILURES. THEY FINALLY CONCLUDED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. THE VIN, PURCHASE DATE, ENGINE SIZE, NUMBER OF CYLINDERS, AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
1. I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A KNOCKING NOISE OF SORTS COMING FROM MY VEHICLE WHEN I WOULD PUT IT IN DRIVE. AT FIRST, IT WOULD ONLY DO IT IN DRIVE. NOW, IT MAKES THE NOISE IN PARK AND IN EVERY GEAR EXCEPT REVERSE. IT IS EXTREMELY LOUD. 2. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THREE DIFFERENT PLACES, IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE INPUT SHAFT AND BEARING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IN MY TRANSMISSION. PER THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THIS WILL RUN ROUGHLY AROUND $2,200.00! 3. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING TO GET AN APPOINTMENT TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED. HAVE CALLED 2 SEPARATE FORD DEALERSHIPS AND ONE OF THEM TOLD US TO CALL BACK IN A WEEK WHEN HIS TRANSMISSION GUY WOULD BE IN, THE OTHER TOLD US TO CALL BACK WHEN THEY OPEN TODAY. *TR
ON MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 21,400 MILES THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE WORN WITH LESS THAN 3 MM OF PAD REMAINING. AT 6 DAYS PAST MY 3 YR / 36 K MI. WARRANTY, FORD CUST SERVICE AND FORD CORPORATE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP ME. THEY DID ADMIT THAT THEY EXTENDED THE REAR BRAKE WARRANTY TO 3 YR/ 36 K MI - HOWEVER I WAS PAST THE 3 YR DATE (EVEN IF BY 6 DAYS) -- THANKFULLY MY DEALER CONTACTED THEIR FORD REP AND HE AUTHORIZED THE ENTIRE REAR BRAKES TO BE REPLACED -- MY COPAY WAS $119.68 VS $475.00. I GRILLED THEM AS TO WHAT ALL WAS REPLACED AND THEY SAID THE PADS, ROTORS, AND CALIPER MOUNTING PLATES AND BRACKETS AND BOLTS ETC. THEY SAID THEY REAR BRAKE ISSUES THAT MOST EVERYBODY IS HAVING IS DUE TO THE WRONG CALIPER MOUNTING HARDWARE USED. THIS CAUSED THE CALIPERS TO BE ALWAYS MISS- ALIGNED AND EXCESSIVE PAD AND ROTOR WEAR. PREMATURE WEAR ON THE REAR DISC BRAKES. THE REAR BRAKES WERE CHANGE UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AT 13,000 MILES BY FORD. NOW AT 32,500 MILES THE REAR BRAKES ARE DOWN TO THE ROTOR. THE DEALER AND FORD TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A ONE TIME DEAL. APPARENTLY THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR BRAKES OR ELSE THEY WOULD NOT OFFER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THEM. ONE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT 20,000 MILES ON REAR BRAKES IS NORMAL AND ANOTHER TOLD ME THAT YOU SHOULD GET 2 FRONT BRAKE PADS TO 1 REAR BRAKE PAD. ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT I HAD WAS THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE GAUGES WOULD ALL GO TO ZERO. IT TOOK 4 TIMES AND 8 DAYS TO THE DEALER ACROSS A SPAN OF 6 MONTHS FOR THEM TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I OWN A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE AND THERE ARE 45,854 MILES ON THE CAR. OVER THE PREVIOUS FEW MONTHS, WHILE BACKING UP, I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. AS A RETIRED SALESMAN WHO DROVE OVER 1,000,000 MILES WITHOUT REPLACING ANY BRAKES ON A CAR, I DID NOT IMMEDIATELY COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THIS NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE REAR BRAKES. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE FRONT BRAKES HISTORICALLY WOULD FAIL BEFORE THE REAR BRAKES WOULD. I FINALLY DID TAKE THE CAR TO BRAKES ONLY AMERICA, INC., IN LANSING, MI, WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENTIRE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM WAS WORN OUT. I HAD TO HAVE THE ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED FOR A COST OF $269.85. STAFF AT THE BRAKES ONLY STORE TOLD ME THAT THE QUALITY OF THE REAR DISC BRAKES ARE NOT OF THE SAME QUALITY AS THE FRONT, WHICH ON MY CAR, ARE STILL IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. I NOTICE IT MOST WHEN GETTING READY TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY OR WHEN GETTING READY TO BACK OUT OF PARKING SPACES OR PREPARING TO PULL FORWARD AFTER BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN AS I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. I BEGAN NOTICING THE PROBLEM APPROXIMATELY THREE YEARS AGO,AND IT PROBABLY ONLY HAPPENED HALF A DOZEN TIMES IN THAT YEAR. WHEN FIRST SELECTING REVERSE FROM A STOPPED POSITION THE VEHICLE SURGES DRASTICALLY WHICH ALSO REQUIRES PROMPT ADDITIONAL BRAKING TO KEEP THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL. THE VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED BY THE DEALER. THE SURGING MAY BE COMING FROM AN ISSUE WITHIN THE FUNCTION OF THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT NOT 100% SURE OF THAT. THE ADDITION OF FUEL CLEANERS SEEMS TO HELP, BUT ONLY A LITTLE... AND THEN ONLY TEMPORARILY. SYMPTOMS OCCUR YEAR ROUND, BUT SEEM TO BE WORSENED BY HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES. THE VEHICLE IS A THREAT TO SAFETY IN IT'S DESIGN AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.

ON DECEMBER 22, 2007 MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE CAR WAS MAKING NOISE ON MY ENTIRE 30 MILE TRIP TO WORK. I TOOK A GUY FROM WORK FOR A RIDE AND HE TOLD ME HE WAS PRETTY SURE IT WAS MY REAR BRAKES. THE CAR WARRANTY HAD JUST EXPIRED, I HAD APPROX. 36, 800 MILES ON IT. WE TOOK IT TO THE CLOSEST PLACE WHO COULD LOOK AT IT RIGHT AWAY, THIS WAS AN INDEPENDENT SHOP. THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY REAR BRAKES, ROTORS AND 1 CALIPER REQUIRED REPLACING. THE CALIPER HAD LOCKED UP AND I HAD NO BRAKE PADS LEFT. THEY ALSO TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT I WAS VERY LUCKY I DIDN'T DRIVE MUCH FARTHER AS IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. THE SHOP SAID IT LOOKED LIKE I HAD BEEN DRIVING AROUND WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON.
