THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V383000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES) AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER THE RECALL BUT DID NOT PREVENT THE FAILURE FROM OCCURRING. THE MANUFACTURE WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR FAILED TO LATCH WHICH RESULTED IN THE DOOR INDEPENDENTLY OPENING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V383000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TWICE IN SNOW STORMS WHILE CREEPING ALONG AT <5 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES (GENTLY PUMPING) TO NEGOTIATE A HILL THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME EXTREMELY HARD TO PUSH AND SEEMED NON FUNCTIONAL. I BELIEVE THIS IS REPEATABLE AND IS SOMEHOW RELATED TO LOW SPEED ON A DOWN GRADE WHILE PUMPING THE BRAKES. I COULD NOT DISCERN WHETHER THE ENGINE IDLE WAS GAINING BUT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSTOPPABLE UNTIL I REACHED THE BOTTOM OF THE GRADE. ONCE REACHING THE BASE OF THE HILL THE PROBLEM MYSTERIOUSLY GOES AWAY. A MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE PHYSICAL BRAKES. I BELIEVE IT IS TRACTION AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE CONTROL RELATED. *TR
CAR LUNGES WHEN SITTING STILL WITH ENGINE RUNNING BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE AND IS WORSE WHEN AIR COND IS ON. LOUD NOISE I BELIEVE IS COMING FROM TRANSMISSION WHILE PARKED AND RUNNING AND SITTING STILL. SYSTEM WAS OVERCHARGING AND CAUSED MY BATTERY TO EXPLODE. CHECK LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. *TR
CVT FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 87,500 MILES WHILE MY NEPHEW WAS DRIVING THE CAR. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS HURT AND HE WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A CONTROLLED STOP. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO OPERATE FOR ANOTHER 5 MILES OF DRIVING BEFORE IT WOULD NO LONGER SHIFT INTO FORWARD OR REVERSE GEARS. *TR

WHEN IDLE IN DRIVE THE RPM'S SURGE BY ITSELF AND THE VEHICLE JERKS FORWARD. *TR
WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ONE NIGHT THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH AND THE CAR STARTED TO MAKE A LOUD WHINING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AREA. SHE PULLED INTO A SHOPPING PLAZA AND SHUT THE CAR OFF AND CALLED ME ON THE CELL, WE TRIED TO START IT UP BUT THE WHINING NOISE KEPT GOING AND THE CAR WOULD MOVE INTO ANY OF ITS GEARS. IT WOULD SHIFT INTO THE GEARS SELECTIONS BUT WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL, SO I HAD IT TOWED WITH A RAMP TRUCK THREW MY AAA MEMBERSHIP. THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT LEAKING AND WAS FULL AT THE TIME OF THE BREAKDOWN AND NOW ITS GOING TO COST ME AROUND $5,000.00 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE FORD MOTORS CO. HAD A PROBLEM WITH THERE CVT TRANSMISSIONS IN THE MODELS FROM 2005 TO 2007 IN THE FREESTYLES AND 500 MODELS.MY CAR MAY HAVE 170,000 MILES ON IT BUT THE BODY IS IN GREAT CONDITION BECAUSE ITS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND RIGHT NOW I CAN NOT AFFORD THE REPAIR BILL. I COULD PURCHASE A NICE USED CAR FOR THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY. I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD PRODUCT AGAIN. FORD MOTORS CO. KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT DUE TO THE TIME LINE THEY WILL NEVER HAVE A RECALL AND THE OWNERS WILL BE STUCK WITH THE COSTLY REPAIRS. THANK YOU *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A SUDDEN INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL MODE BETWEEN 60-65 MPH, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD DEACTIVATE INDEPENDENTLY AND THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP WITHOUT THE CONTACT ACCELERATING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE A TAPPING NOISE IN THE ENGINE AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A TRANSMISSION. USED $2,000 TO $3,000 AND NEW $6,500. HE TOLD ME THAT THE CAR COULD GO 50 MILES OR 50,000 MILES BEFORE IT COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING BUT IT COULD BE DANGEROUS IF IT HAPPENED IF I WERE GOING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM THAT FORD HAS NEVER BEEN FORCED TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR AND WON'T FIX FOR ME. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY KIDS ARE IN THE CAR WITH ME WHEN THE TRANSMISSION GOES? I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX THE PROBLEM, I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW CAR - SO WHAT DO PEOPLE LIKE ME DO? THIS IS NOT A NEW PROBLEM FOR FORD THEY COULD AND SHOULD REPAIR THEIR DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND EQUIPMENT. *TR
TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT AND CAN'T AFFORD TO REPAIR BECAUSE OF RIDICULOUS COST. SEAT BELT IN MIDDLE SEAT IS STUCK AND MY CHILDREN CAN'T SIT IN THAT SEAT BECAUSE IT IS STUCK. VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS FORD BUY. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN MY FAMILY VEHICLE! *TR
I HAVE A 2005 SEL FREESTYLE WITH ABOUT 130K MILES ON IT. THIS MORNING WHILE DRIVING TO WORK WITH SPEED OF 55MPH ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ABS AND AWD LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYED "CHECK TRACTION CONTROL" AND "AWD MALFUNCTION", THEN ENTIRE PANEL WENT DARK (RPM, GAS, OIL, SPEED AND ODOMETER). I NOTICED THAT THE GAUGES WERE MAKING A TICKING NOISE AT THAT TIME AS WELL. I PULLED OFF THE MAIN HWY AND SHUT CAR OFF, I THEN TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR. ALL OF THE GAUGES LIT UP AGAIN, BUT CAR WOULD NOT START, ACTED LIKE BATTERY/ALTERNATOR WAS SHOT. HAD TO GET IT TOWED HOME AND WAS LATE TO WORK. NOT SURE WHERE TO START TO SOLVE THE ISSUE, HAVE SEEN TOO MANY POSTS WITH THE SAME ISSUES. I THINK THAT FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND TAKE THE APPROPRIATE STEPS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES BEFORE FATALITIES BEGIN. *TR
GAUGES BOTTOM OUT OCCASIONALLY AND THE LIGHTS ON THE GAUGES WILL ALSO GO OUT FOR A FEW SECONDS. I GOOGLED THIS AND FOUND SEVERAL FORUMS AND ARTICLES WHERE OTHERS HAVE RUN INTO THIS. A DEFECT/SHORT IN THE GAUGE CLUSTER. TO DATE THOUGH THE NHTSA OR FORD HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING. DRIVING AT 50MPH AND AT NIGHT TIME HAS TO BE CONSIDERED A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS. *TR
IN 2011 THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED ON MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. FORD RECOMMENDED CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY AND I HAD THIS DONE AT A FORD DEALER. FORD LATER EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS PART AND REIMBURSED ME. FOLLOWING THIS, I FOUND THAT THE CAR OCCASIONALLY LUNGED AND THE RPMS WOULD RACE. ON NOVEMBER 3, 2013 THE VEHICLE WENT INTO FAIL SAFE MODE WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE STOPPED ACCELERATING. I IMMEDIATELY HIT MY BRAKES AND BEGAN TO PULL OVER. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND TRIED TO MAKE MY WAY HOME AT 15 MPH. ON MONDAY I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY CAR SEEN. I WAS TOLD IT WAS STILL COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. ON TUESDAY THE CAR AGAIN WENT INTO FAIL SAFE MODE AND SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. ON INSPECTION, THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS AT FAULT. THE PART WAS FAULTY, AND COULD NOT BE CLEANED TO FIX. IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED, BUT FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE COST (OVER $900) EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS PART. WHEN CALLING, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD ONLY COVER A ONE TIME CLEANING. THE CLEANING DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, AND THIS IS A MASSIVE SAFETY ISSUE. THE CAR SHUTS DOWN IN TRAFFIC, LEAVING YOU VULNERABLE. *TR
2005 FREESTYLE CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE, BOUGHT IN SUMMER 2013 AS WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS. SOMETIMES IT WOULD WORK JUST FINE AND OTHER TIMES IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS STRAINING TO KEEP UP THE SPEED IT WAS SET AT. IN NOVEMBER STARTED TO HEAD TO WORK AND THE TRANSMISSION AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, TOOK IT TO SHOP AND SPENT 1200.00 TO REPAIR COMPUTER CHIP INSIDE TRANSMISSION HOPING THIS WOULD HELP BUT IT DID NOT. THE CAR WILL ONLY ENGAGE IN THE CVT TRANSMISSION IF WARM BUT TAKES A LONG TIME TO WARM UP AND THEN ONLY GOES A SHORT DISTANCE BEFORE MORE PROBLEMS. NOW BEING TOLD 5000 PLUS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSIONS CAUSE NOTHING ELSE FIXES THE PROBLEM. HAVE ONLY TAKEN THE CAR FOR ONE NIGHT A MONTH AGO AND IT HAS BEEN AT THE REPAIR SHOP EVER SINCE SO SINCE NOVEMBER ONLY HAD IT A NIGHT DUE TO THIS MATTER. WAS ADVISED THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ESPECIALLY DURING THE WINTER DUE TO THE POSSIBLE COMPLETE FAILURE AT ANY TIME. *TR
PURCHASED USED-WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLD THE DOORS WILL NOT SHUT-APPEARS TO BE SOME TYPE OF ELECTRONIC PROBLEM-EVEN WHEN CAR IS WARMED UP THE DOORS WILL NOT LATCH SHUT. *TR
WE HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR OVER TWO YEARS NOW. IN THOSE TWO YEARS OUR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAS BEEN REPLACED BY THE FORD DEALER 4 TIMES NOW. WHEN DRIVING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GOES OFF AND SENDS FUEL SHUTOFF CODES TO THE FUEL SYSTEM WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE. OTHER ITEMS REPLACED WERE THE ONBOARD COMPUTER AND ALTERNATOR. THE COMPUTER HAS BEEN REPROGRAMMED ONCE, BUT NO HELP. I HAVE SEEN THE TECHNICAL RELEASE FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT THIS HAS BEEN A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY FAMILY. WHEN THE CAR STARTS TO SHAKE AND YOU ARE DOING 65/70 MPH IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I PURCHASED A FORD FREESTYLE SEL 2005, ON NOVEMBER 2005, FROM THE FORD DEALER, BRAND NEW CAR. I AM THE ONLY DRIVER. MY TRANSMISSION STARTED TO MAKE A NOISE ON LAST WEEK. I TOOK THE CAR TO 2 DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND BOTH TOLD ME THAT IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION!!! IT IS A CVT TRANSMISSION, VERY EXPENSIVE AND ONLY HAS 130,000 MILES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL OR PARK, THE NEUTRAL INPUT SHAFT MADE A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
WE PURCHASED A USED 2005 FORD FREESTYLE ON APRIL 4, 2013. IT HAD 74,590 MILES ON IT. ON OCTOBER 1, 2013 THE CTV TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO FAIL. CHECK ENGINE AND CHECK TRANSMISSION WARNINGS CAME ON, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 10MPH, IT LURCHED AND CRUNCHED AT 3500-4000RPMS. WE MADE IT LESS THAN ONE BLOCK BEFORE IT JUST STOPPED IN THE ROAD. TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ONE, I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK TO TEN MPH AND LIMP IT BACK HOME. LATER THAT DAY AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY FOR TEN MINUTES, THE CAR FIRED UP NO PROBLEM AND WAS DRIVABLE UNTIL THE OCTOBER 3, 2013 WHERE THIS ACTION REPEATED BUT IT DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT A BLOCK BEFORE STOPPING. AGAIN, BY TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON I WAS ABLE TO LIMP IT HOME. MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED ONE MORE TIME AND TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC. AFTER AN AFTERNOON OF FULL DIAGNOSES, WE WERE TOLD IT NEEDED A NEW REFURBED (SO NOT EVEN NEW) TRANSMISSION FOR $6400.00! WE WERE ABLE TO LIMP IT HOME FROM THE MECHANICS WHILE WE CONSIDER OUR OPTIONS. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE THIS APPEARS TO BE A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE CTV TRANSMISSIONS THAT FORD IS FULLY AWARE OF AND HAS NO PLANS TO CORRECT. WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT OUR OPTIONS ARE WITH THIS LEMON! WE HAVEN'T EVEN HAD IT FOR 6 MONTHS AND IT HAS LOW MILEAGE. THANK YOU. *TR
WHEN STOPPING, IDLING, PUTTING CAR IN GEAR, ETC., THE CAR WILL LUNGE ALMOST STRIKING CAR AHEAD OF ME. IT SEEMS TO BE WORSE WHEN THE AC IS ON OR IF MY STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED. I USUALLY PUT MY CAR IN NEUTRAL WHILE STOPPING IN A DRIVE THRU OR AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT BECAUSE I FEAR I'M GOING TO HIT SOMEONE. AFTER A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FUNCTION AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 172,000. UPDATED 11/13/13*LJ THROTTLE BODY WAS CLEANED AND REPROGRAMMED. UPDATED 11/18/13
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THE WRENCH LIGHT, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR LOST SIGNIFICANT POWER, ALMOST RESULTING IN ACCIDENT WOULD ONLY ALLOW ME TO DRIVE 40MPH, PULLED OVER AROUND 11 TIMES AND RESTARTED THE CAR. I WAS AN HOUR AWAY FROM HOME. I HAD THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED A FEW MONTHS AGO AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY ASSURED ME THAT THIS WOULD FIX THE PREVIOUS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE CAR WAS LUNGING FORWARD (WHICH I HAVE ALREADY MADE A FORMAL COMPLAINT). HOWEVER THEY ALSO STATED THAT IT REALLY SHOULD BE REPLACED BUT THEY WERE ONLY INSTRUCTED TO CLEAN IT AND EVENTUALLY IT WOULD GET CLOGGED AGAIN. WHEN I SPOKE TO THEM TODAY THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND I WOULD HAVE TO FIX AT MY OWN EXPENSE. I COULD UNDERSTAND IF IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO END UP HURT BY THIS. I AM A FAMILY OF SIX AND I AM REALLY SCARED FOR MY FAMILIES SAFETY WHILE IN THIS VEHICLE. FIRST THE LUNGING BACKWARD AND FORWARD.... NOW THE CAR LOOSING SIGNIFICANT POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY... SERIOUSLY THIS IS NOT APPROPRIATE... PLEASE HAVE FORD LOOK FURTHER INTO THIS OR EVENTUALLY THEY WILL BE SUED BY SOMEONE. AS I WAS PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ANOTHER GENTLEMAN STOPPED AND TOLD ME THAT HE AS WELL OWNS A FREESTYLE AND HE IS HAVING SAME ISSUES AND CURRENTLY IS IN THE PROCESS OF A LAWSUIT WITH FORD. TOO MANY SAFETY COMPLAINTS ON THE VEHICLE/TRANSMISSION FOR FORD NOT TO RECALL. !!!!!!!!! *TR

THE TRANS SHOP KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM WITH CVT TRANSMISSIONS, AS DID THE SALVAGE YARD, I CHECKED ONLINE AND THERE IS A LONG LINE OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS TRANS. HAD A PREVIOUS RECALL DONE TO CLEAN THROTTLE BODY FOR COLD START STALL IT RAN FIN FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS WHEN ONE SUNDAY WE WERE ON THE INTERSTATE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AT THE TIME WHEN SUDDENLY IT WAS LIKE SOME ONE SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, WE WERE IN VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH TRAFFIC MOVING FAST MY WIFE BECOME VERY SCARED SHE HAD NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES CARS WERE LOCKING THEIR BRAKES BLOWING HORNS AND PASSING AROUND US I SHIFTED THE CAR TO NEUTRAL FOR WE WERE STILL ROLLING ABOUT 50 BY THEN AND HAD HER TRY AND RESTART CAR WHICH IT DID AND WE RESUMED SPEED TO THE NEXT PULL OVER, I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND SOMEONE IN FORD QUALITY AND WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY CHECK OUT FEES AND IT WAS NOT A WARRANTY NOR GOODWILL ITEM. SINCE WE RELUCTANTLY TAKE THE FORD WE USE OUR OLDER CHEVY INSTEAD, I HAVE USED THE FORD SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE INCIDENT AND IT ACTS UP EVERY TIME, I AM ON DISABILITY AND CANNOT AFFORD THE COST FOR CHECK . OUT FEES AFTER READING DOZENS OF BLOGS THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM IN THE THROTTLE BODY, AND THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE, I AM A RETIRED FORD TECHNICIAN FORCED TO DUE TO CANCER, WE NEED HELP WITH OUR CAR AND FOR YOU TO BE AWARE OF THE DANGEROUS PROBLEM THESE CARS ARE HAVING, HAD I NOT BEEN WITH MY WIFE THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, I HAVE BEEN ON LINE AND TALKED WITH MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, SOME NOT AS LUCKY AS US. I THINK FORD NEEDS TO FIRST CK THE RECALL THEY DID AND THEN FIND OUT WHY I AM HAVING THIS DILEMMA, AFTER 24 YEARS. AS A FORD TECH I HAVE NEVER COME ACROSS SOMETHING AS SCARY AND DANGEROUS AS THIS.
