2006 FORD FREESTYLE LURCHES WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR DEPARTING FROM A STOP. TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM INVOLUNTARILY MOVING, HEAVY BRAKE PRESSURE IS REQUIRED. THESE EVENTS STARTED IN APRIL 2011 WHEN VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 97,000 MILES ON IT (26 JULY 2011 ODOMETER READING 99,150 MILES). SYMPTOMS OCCUR EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS PUT INTO REVERSE; LESS FREQUENT WHEN IN FORWARD GEARS. *TR
THIS VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY SURGES FORWARD WHEN AT A STOP AND WHEN IDLING. EVEN WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE CAR CAN STILL LUNGE FORWARD FIVE TO TEN FEET. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BUT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED RIGHT AWAY BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS INJURED. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR NOT ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE YET. IT IS PUBLIC RECORD THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL ISSUED IMMEDIATELY.
2006 FORD FREESTYLE WITH APPROXIMATELY 80,000 MILES BEGAN VIOLENTLY LURCHING FORWARD FROM A PARKED POSITION WITHOUT THE DRIVER'S FOOT BEING ON THE GAS PEDAL (WAS ACTUALLY ON BRAKE WHICH PREVENTED THE CAR FROM GOING MORE THAN A COUPLE OF FEET FORWARD). THIS WAS A SUDDEN AND POWERFUL LURCH, THAT EVEN THE BRAKE COULD NOT TOTALLY STOP. HAVING AIR CONDITIONING ON EXACERBATED THE PROBLEM. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND MANY FORUMS, COMMENTS AND EVEN A FACEBOOK PAGE WITH FREESTYLE OWNERS EXPERIENCING IDENTICAL PROBLEMS, ALL STEMMING FROM A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. WE CLEANED ACCUMULATION OUT FROM FLAP LEADING INTO THROTTLE BODY AND THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED FOR A FEW WEEKS. WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE NOW WILL NOT MOVE AS THERE IS NO RESPONSE WITH FOOT ON ACCELERATOR. THE IDLE REMAINS BELOW 1,000 RPMS AND THE CAR IS SLUGGISH TO THE POINT OF NOT MOVING. FOUND OUT THAT REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY AT A COST OF SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS IS THE ONLY SOLUTION, BUT EVEN THAT IS NOT A PERMANENT FIX, ACCORDING TO MANY REPORTS ONLINE. THIS IS BECAUSE THE PART IS ONLY MANUFACTURED BY FORD AND THE ITEM WILL CONTINUE TO FAIL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD DECELERATE WHILE IN REVERSE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PARK. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD AND ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN AFTER REMOVING HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. THERE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE WIRING HARNESS LOCATED UNDERNEATH THE INTAKE MANIFOLD IN THE ENGINE HAD A SHORT IN AN LOCATION THAT WAS NOT ACCESSIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.

THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 182,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE. ON ONE OCCASION, IT LUNGED SO FORCEFULLY THAT IT WENT OVER A CURB. THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR ALSO FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THERE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
FORD FREESTYLE 2006 LIMITED - THE VEHICLE HAS STARTED TO LUNGE WHEN SHIFTED. THIS IS UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, WITH FOOT OFF THE PEDAL. I AM GETTING VERY WORRIED THAT MY WIFE WILL RUN OVER SOMEONE. THIS IS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE THAT YOU ARE CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY DAY AND IS GETTING GRADUALLY WORSE - 89,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF REPORTS OF THIS ONLINE. YOU NEED TO HAVE FORD FIX THIS. I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF, SO I HAVEN'T HAD IT FIXED. I'M HOPING IT WON'T KEEP GETTING WORSE AND THAT A RECALL WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON. *TR
I HAD TO GET MY THROTTLE REPLACED IN MY CAR DUE TO INVOLUNTARY LUNGING OF THE CAR. I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN IN SEVERAL ACCIDENTS WHEN MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE AND MY CAR STILL LUNGES FORWARD. I HAVE TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO AVOID HITTING A CAR OR A PERSON. THIS IS NOT AN OPTIONAL FIX AS IT IS CLEARLY A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS PROBLEM AND HOPE THAT A RE-CALL IS ISSUED. I SPENT NEARLY 1,000 DOLLARS TO GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A DEFECT. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL AS IT IS ONLY FAIR TO CONSUMERS. *TT

THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY AND RESUMED NORMALLY AFTER SEVERAL MOMENTS. THE FAILURE RECURRED FIVE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T SHIFT GEARS AND THEN IT STALLED. THE WRENCH AND THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE, WITHOUT DEPRESSION OF GAS PEDAL. LUNGE FORWARD AT STOP LIGHTS WHILE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. WHILE DRIVING, AT APPROX. 50MPH, WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE STALLED. PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD, STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND IT WORKED FINE...FOR AWHILE. CALLED DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID IT COULD BE COMPUTER SYSTEM, BUT NOT SURE. WILL BE HAVING DEALERSHIP LOOK AT VEHICLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A MONTH...JUST A SLIGHT INCREASE IN THE BEGINNING, BUT NOW IS UNCONTROLLABLE.

VEHICLE LUNGES AFTER PUTTING IT IN GEAR. *TR
FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE WHILE IDLING -- CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE EVEN HARDER TO MAKE IT STOP MOVING. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS, ESPECIALLY WHILE MOVING SLOWLY IN THE PICKUP LINE AT MY CHILD'S SCHOOL. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN CHILDREN ARE WALKING IN BETWEEN CARS AND MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE EXPECTING THE CAR TO STAY STILL, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL LUNGE FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY. WE HAVE OWNED OUR VEHICLE SINCE WE PURCHASED IT NEW IN NOVEMBER, 2005. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT IS UNIQUE TO OUR CAR -- IT IS HAPPENING TO HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. THIS CAR STARTED SURGING LITTLE BY LITTLE GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AS THE MONTHS WENT ON. HOTTER WEATHER SEEMED TO MAKE IT WORSE, STALLING IN DRIVE THRU'S AND LURCHING MORE. A FEW TIMES CUTTING OUT ALL TOGETHER, HAVING TO WAIT IN PARKING LOTS TO COME BACK ON. THEN IT BEGAN MAKING A HIGH PITCHED WHINING SOUND LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING TO BLOW UP IF IT GOT TO "OVER WORKED" IT SEEMED. THEN WOW "SHOCK OF ALL SHOCKS" THIS LEMON OF A CAR SIMPLY DIED WHILE FINALLY SPUTTERING IT'S LAST GASPS SOUNDING LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE MACK TRUCK AND HAD A " CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE" AS TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS OF OURS DIAGNOSED. NOW WE ARE FACED WITH REPLACING THE ENGINE, USED AT A STEAL FOR ABOUT $3000.00 TO $5000.00+ OR TAKING A HUGE LOSS SINCE WE OWE ON IT STILL. AND GEE WHAT DO WE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO IF WE DO REPLACE THE ENGINE? A SAFE NON-LURCHING RIDE? NO. A FUTURE FREE FROM MORE COSTLY REPAIRS? NO. NEW THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT AND NEW TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENTS? I CAN'T WAIT!!! WHAT A JOKE. I HATE THIS CAR. PLEASE RECALL SOMETHING, ANYTHING TO TAKE THIS DEATH TRAP OFF MY HANDS!!! WHILE SITTING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS CAR HAS TENDENCY TO LURCH FORWARD WHILE FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. IT ALSO AT TIMES WILL MAKE A SOUND AS IF SOMETHING IS HITTING THE ENGINE WHEN STARTING.
I OWN A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE CROSSOVER. DURING THE PAST YEAR, THE VEHICLE ENGINE HAS BEEN UNEXPECTEDLY RUNNING MUCH HIGHER RPM (REVVING) AND "LUNGING" FORWARD OR BACKWARDS (DEPENDING UPON IF THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE). AFTER REPEATED TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT THE MECHANICS COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. EVENTUALLY, AROUND MID SEPTEMBER 2010, I REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY PER THE DEALER'S RECOMMENDATION. MY CAR IS ONCE AGAIN BEGINNING TO "LUNGE" FORWARD. I JUST NOTICED THIS ON MAY 19, 2011. FORD DID NOT PAY FOR THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT AND I AM RUNNING IN TO A DEAD END AGAIN. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MANY OTHER FREESTYLE OWNERS AND THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. *TR
THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD OR REVS UPS WHEN UNDER THESE CONDITIONS: AC IS ON, CAR IS IDLING SUCH AS IN A PARKING LOT, STOP SIGNS OR INTERSECTIONS. THIS HAS BEEN GRADUALLY WORSENING UNTIL I NARROWLY MISSED A PERSON WALKING IN THE PARKING LOT AND TOOK THE CAR IN FOR REPAIRS. THE LOCAL DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE AND I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION MAKING A TAPPING NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE INSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION WAS FALLING APART AND IT WOULD COST ME 5800 DOLLARS TO HAVE IT REPAIRED HAS THERE BEEN ANY OTHER PROBLEMS LIKE THIS OR ANY RECALLS FOR THE FORD CVT TRANSMISSION HELP I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEM WITH THE CAR LUNCHING FORWARD AND STALLING OUT AND THE WRENCH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM OR ANY FAULT CODES THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. *TR

MY 2006 FREESTYLE WILL INTERMITTENTLY ACCELERATE WHEN STOPPED OR GOING AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS HAPPENS AT REDLIGHTS, CARPOOL LINE, OR ANYWHERE I AM IDLE. IT HAPPENS ON OCCASION WHILE IN REVERSE. I HAVE TRIED SOME OF THE FUEL INJECTION CLEANERS AND WILL BE TAKING IT TO BE LOOKED AT TODAY AFTER A SCARE AT AN INTERSECTION WHERE IT REVVED UP AND STALLED. I HAVE SEEN MANY POST ABOUT IT BEING THE THROTTLE BODY BUT I FOR ONE CAN'T AFFORD A PROBLEM THAT SEEMS TO BE ER RELATED. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME RIGHT NOW AS I WAS ALMOST HIT AT THE INTERSECTION. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON/OFF FOR A FEW MONTHS AND AT FIRST IT WAS SO SLIGHT I DID NOT NOTICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED AND DENIED HAVING THE COMPONENTS REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THERE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT COULD POSSIBLE HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.

ALSO, RECENTLY THE WRENCH LIGHT HAS COME ON AFTER IT BEGINS TO LUNGE. WHEN THE WRENCH LIGHT IS ON IT HAS LITTLE POWER TO ACCELERATE. WE OWN A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WERE DRIVING THE CAR 700 MILES FROM HOME WHEN THE WRENCH LIGHT STARTED GOING ON/OFF. WE WERE ENTERING A FREEWAY ON-RAMP WHEN THE THROTTLE DISENGAGED AND WE WERE FORCED TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALL FOR ASSISTANCE - THANKFULLY WE WERE ABLE TO DO IT SAFELY. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP IN SAN LEANDRO, CA, AND HAD TO RENT A CAR TO GET HOME. AFTER ABOUT 1.5 WEEKS WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT METAL DAMAGE IN THE TRANSMISSION AND IT WOULD COST US $6200 TO REPLACE IT. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 47,100 MILES ON IT. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS MY VEHICLE HAS LUNGED WHEN IN A STOPPED POSITION. WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, WHILE IN REVERSE, BUT WITH THE BRAKE STILL APPLIED THE CAR HAS LUNGED FEET BACKWARDS AT A FAST RATE AND NEARLY CAUSED ACCIDENTS. THIS IS ALSO TRUE IN REGARDS TO STOPPED AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. WHILE IN DRIVE WITH THE BRAKE PEDDLE DEPRESSED STOPPED BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD A COUPLE FEET NEARLY HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE FOUR CHILDREN AND I FEEL UNSAFE IN MY OWN CAR. I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN SO I HAVE TO BE PREPARED FOR IT AT ALL TIMES. HAVING ISSUES WITH HARD STARTING ISSUES TO THE POINT IT GOT TO WHERE IT WOULD NOT START. I HAVE ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH ACCELERATION FLUCTUATION WITHOUT ME TOUCHING GAS PEDDLE. THERE WAS EVEN A TIME WHERE IT FLUCTUATED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. AT THE TIME I HAD THE CRUISE ON AND IT SHUT OFF THE CRUISE WHEN IT DID IT. IT LASTS ANYWHERE FROM 1 1/2 TO 2 MONTHS AND NEEDS CLEANED AGAIN AS IT HANGS UP AND MY ENGINE BEGINS TO SELF ACCELERATE AND IS HARD STARTING AGAIN.
