TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD. THE BRAKES WERE QUICKLY APPLIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS IN USE. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN OVER A POSSIBLE CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSED GEAR OR FORWARD. IT ONLY HAPPENED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED DOWN THE VEHICLE LOSSES POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED FROM THE THROTTLE BOX. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIR THE FIST TIME. AND FOR THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE WAS FAIL WITH THE PREVIOUS PROBLEM AND WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC. THE PRIVATE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE WAS THE THROTTLE BODY BOX. THE VEHICLE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000. LG

2006 FORD FREESTYLE HAS RAPID ACCELERATION WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE AND BRAKE IS APPLIED. THE HAPPENS WITHOUT EVER PLACING FOOT ON THE GAS. THIS STARTED AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR 4 YEARS. *TR

2006 FORD FREESTYLE 85,000 MILES. CAR BEGAN LURCHING FORWARD WHEN IN DRIVE AND BACKWARD WHEN IN REVERSE AT ABOUT 70,000 MILES. JUNE 2010 CAR LUNGED FORWARD IN A PARKING LOT AND ALMOST HIT CAR IN FRONT OF ME. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP NEXT DAY AND FOR $920 THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY IN ONE DAY. NEVER MENTIONED THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. *TR
MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE ACTUALLY LUNGES AND REVS UP WHEN I FIRST GET INTO IT AND PUT IT INTO REVERSE OR FORWARD. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING REGULARLY NOW FOR OVER 2 YEARS AND ABOUT 40,000 MILES BUT THIS WEEKEND WAS THE FINAL STRAW. I HAD TO PICK UP A CHILD AND LEFT MY KIDS IN THE CAR FOR ABOUT 5 MINS WITH THE CAR RUNNING AND WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE THE CAR LUNGED BACKWARDS AND I ALMOST HIT A TREE THEN IT SHUT OFF. I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND RESTARTED IT AND IT LUNGED FORWARDS AFTER BEING PUT INTO DRIVE THEN SHUT OFF AGAIN. I THEN RESTARTED IT BUT IT WOULD NOT RUN CORRECTLY.A WRENCH LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. IT WAS CLOCKING 3000 RPMS AT 40 MPH AND IT SEEMED LIKE IT WOULD NOT SHIFT. I PULLED OVER AND LET THE CAR SIT FOR ABOUT A MINUTE AND RESTARTED IT. IT SEEMED TO RUN OKAY AFTER THAT BUT LUNGED AGAIN TODAY.I PULLED THE CODES WHICH WERE PO61B AND P2106. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM. I HAVE ALMOST HIT PEOPLE IN PARKING LOTS, TREES, MY GARAGE DOOR, AND MY OWN KIDS...THIS HAS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF AND I THINK FORD SHOULD DO A RECALL!! *TR
MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE LUNGES FORWARD. IT WAS SEVERAL WEEKS FROM THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED TO THE SECOND TIME, BUT NOW IT IS DOING IT ALMOST ALL OF THE TIME. WHEN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE AND THE ENGINE IS WARM THE THROTTLE HAS A MIND OF IT'S OWN. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOST FREQUENTLY WHEN PARKING SUCH AS SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE, PARK TO REVERSE, OR DRIVE TO REVERSE, BUT HAVE ALSO HAD IT HAPPEN WHEN STOPPING AT AN INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE JUST TRIES TO RUN AWAY WITH ITSELF, THE LIMITED POWER LIGHT COMES ON AND A COUPLE OF TIMES IT HAS STALLED WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THE PROBLEM IS THE THROTTLE BODY. HAD THE CODES RAN AT THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE SEEN OVER 20 CASES OF THIS SAME ISSUE. I LIVE IN A VERY RURAL AREA AND I DIDN'T EVEN THINK THERE WERE THAT MANY FREESTYLE'S IN THIS AREA. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER TO FILE A COMPLAINT, AND THEY MAYBE THEY WOULD RECALL THE DEFECTIVE PART. I BELIEVE THIS PART NEEDS RECALLED AS A MATTER OF SAFETY. LAST WEEK I ALMOST HIT A MAN IN A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT AS I PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. HE WAS WALKING BEHIND THE VEHICLE AND I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES BUT WHEN THE CAR DECIDED TO THROTTLE BY ITSELF THE BRAKED DID GIVE A LITTLE AND THE MAN PROCEEDED TO USE VULGAR LANGUAGE AND SOME SIGN LANGUAGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH UPHILL, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FURTHER BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND 40 MPH. ONCE SHE REACHED THE TOP OF THE HILL, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED UNTIL SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY STALL WITHOUT WARNING WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE AGAIN, UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER REPAIRED FOR EITHER FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE SURGES FORWARD (OR BACK) WHEN TAKEN OUT OF PARK. OCCURS MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN PLACED INTO REVERSE. OCCASIONALLY, THE CAR WILL ALSO STALL AFTER SURGING WHEN THE BRAKES ARE SLAMMED TO STOP THE CAR AND A YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT WILL APPEAR ON DASH. BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE. NO CODES. HAS HAPPEND ABOUT 20 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR. *TR
ENGINE WILL REV UP WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE BEING APPLIED TO THE GAS PEDAL. HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN PARK AND IS PUT IN GEAR. HAPPENS OFTEN ENOUGH THAT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY, AS IT IS A FAMILY CAR. MY LOCAL MERCURY DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THAT I NEED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. A RECENT INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT HER RESIDENCE AND NEARLY CAUSED A CRASH TO OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED THE RPM'S BEGAN TO INCREASE AND DECREASE EXCESSIVELY. SHE ALSO STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY STALL WHILE DRIVING FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS RESTARTED, IT WOULD FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
JUNE 2010 I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE LURCHING FORWARD/BACKWARD WHILE IN GEAR AND FOOT FIRMLY ON BRAKE. THE CAR WOULD STALL AND I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT 5-10 MINUTES TO RE-START. IT SEEMED TO BE WORSE WHEN THE A/C WAS RUNNING. STILL HAVING PROBLEMS TODAY. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DICK MASHETER FORD IN COLUMBUS, OH PER FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST (WITH A WAIVED FEE PER FORD) AND AFTER LETTING THE VEHICLE AND A/C RUN FOR AWHILE THEY DID NOTICE A "LIGHT SERGE AT IDLE IN GEAR WITH A/C ON AND TURNING AT THE SAME TIME". I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN THE A/C NEEDS TO BE RAN. IT WILL LURCH A GOOD FOOT IF NOT MORE WHEN IT IS AT ITS WORST.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE AND ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE FORWARD OR IN REVERSE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DISCOVERED THAT WHOMEVER PERFORMED THE MOST RECENT OIL CHANGE ON THE VEHICLE ADDED INCORRECT FLUID, CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO BECOME DEFECTIVE. THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE BUT THE ISSUE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT HER AT A LATER DATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000.

WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS OFF OR ON THE VEHICLE ALSO LUNGED WITH GREATER FORCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000 MILES.
VEHICLE LUNGES FORWARD WHEN AT A STOP WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. ALSO HAPPENS WHEN GOING INTO A PARKING SPACE IN FORWARD AND WHEN BACKING OUT IN REVERSE. THIS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES LAST SUMMER. NEVER HAPPENED ALL WINTER. NOW HAS BEEN DOING IT REGULARLY THIS SUMMER. THE CLOSEST WE CAME TO AN ACCIDENT WAS IN OUR GARAGE. BARELY GOT IT STOPPED BEFORE HITTING THE WALL. MY SON AND A FRIEND HAS THE SAME VEHICLE AND BOTH OF THEM DOES IT ALSO. I DON'T KNOW WHAT COMPONENT IS INVOLVED FOR SURE. I EXPLAINED THE SYMPTOMS TO MY SERVICE ADVISOR AT MY FORD DEALER HE SAID IT COULD BE THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH WOULD BE ABOUT $800 REPAIR. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO HOLD OUT TO SEE IF THERE WOULD BE A RECALL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
IN 2010, MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE GEARS FELT LIKE IT WAS STARTING TO SLIP AND A 'WRENCH' LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN SPEED AND HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. AFTER A FEW MOMENTS, I STARTED DOWN THE ROAD AT A LOW GEAR UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO PULL IN TO A GAS STATION. AFTER THE CAR WAS CUT OFF FOR 15 MINUTES OR SO, IT STARTED UP FINE AND THE 'WRENCH' LIGHT CUT OFF. I WOULD DRIVE FOR 4 OR MONTHS BEFORE IT DID IT AGAIN BUT ANYTIME THE SPEED CONTROL WAS SET, IT WILL START AGAIN. I WOULD CUT THE CAR OFF AND THE LIGHT WOULD BE GONE. THOUGHT IT WAS A SENSOR. HOWEVER, THIS PAST WEEK, THE CAR HAS STARTED LURCHING FORWARD WHILE MY BRAKES ARE APPLIED. IT WILL DO IT FORWARD OR WHILE BACKING UP AND THE 'WRENCH' LIGHT WILL CUT ON AND THE CAR WILL STALL OUT. I MUST KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN BACKING UP OR GOING FORWARD FROM A STOP POSITION BECAUSE THE CAR COULD ACCELERATE AT ANY TIME. RECENTLY, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER 1 AND HALF DAYS THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS GONE OFF BUT THE CAR IS STILL JUMPING. AS OF YET, NO REPAIR WORK HAS BEEN DONE. BEFORE TAKING TO THE DEALERSHIP, I DECIDED TO CHECKED FOR ANY RECALLS AND SAW THAT THERE WAS AN OPEN CASE ON THIS MODEL WITH MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME THING.
THE CAR SURGES WHEN AT LOW SPEEDS, IDLING AND IN REVERSE. WE FIRST NOTICED IT IN REVERSE. THIS IS MORE APPARENT WHEN THE A/C IS ON. WE ARE UNSURE EXACTLY WHEN THIS STARTED TO OCCUR SO THE DATE ABOVE IS A CLOSE GUESS. THE SURGING IS DEFINITELY HAPPENING NOW. IF IT HAPPENS WE HAVE TO STEP VERY FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE BECAUSE THE CAR WANTS TO JUMP FORWARD. WE HAVE ALSO HAD THE WRENCH LIGHT COME ON. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY WE HAD IT LOOKED AT BY THE DEALER BUT WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND HAVE DISCOVERED THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEM AS I AM.
I PURCHASED MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE IN DECEMBER 2009. AS SOON AS THE WEATHER GOT WARMER I NOTICED THAT WHEN PARKING, BACKING UP, OR TRYING TO STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE AS IF I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. SOON IT ALSO STARTED SURGING/SPUTTERING WHEN I FIRST STARTED OUT AND WOULD OCCASIONALLY STALL, TWICE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO DISCOVER THAT THE THROTTLE BODY POSITION SENSOR DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY & THAT ALL FREESTYLES WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS SHOCKED TO FIND THAT A NEW UNIT COULD BE PUT IN BUT WAS NOT COVERED AS A RECALL AND WAS GOING TO COST $1000. AS A SINGLE MOM, THAT WAS JUST IMPOSSIBLE. LUCKILY MY DISABLED FATHER WAS PREVIOUSLY A MECHANIC AND WAS ABLE TO USE CARB CLEANER TO CLEAN THE SENSOR AND TEMPORARILY STOP THE PROBLEM. SINCE THEN, EVERY SPRING THE PROBLEM COMES BACK AND I HAVE TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY UNIT CLEANED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE WINTER. ANOTHER PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THIS VEHICLE IS THAT THE BRAKES WEAR OUT UNUSUALLY QUICKLY. I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S BECAUSE OF HAVING TO FIGHT THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR TO STOP THE CAR, OR IF IT'S A FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I DO KNOW THAT WHEN IT STARTS TO FEEL LIKE THEY ARE WEARING OUT I HAVE TO REPLACE THEM ASAP BECAUSE THE MORE THEY GET WORN THE FASTER THEY WEAR OUT, IF THAT MAKES SENSE. SOMETHING I'VE JUST RECENTLY NOTICED IS THAT THE LIGHTS (INTERIOR, EXTERIOR, DISPLAY, ALL OF THEM) HAVE BEEN ALMOST BLINKING...GETTING BRIGHTER/DIMMER AND AT THE SAME TIME MY A/C BLOWS HARDER/SOFTER, LIKE THEY ARE SURGING AS WELL. UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION I FOUND THAT THE TOP AND BOTTOM DRIVER'S SIDE MOTOR MOUNTS HAVE CRACKED/ROTTED BUSHINGS. FORD SHOULD ABSOLUTELY REPLACE THESE THROTTLE BODIES WITHOUT QUESTION; MY CHILDREN RIDE IN MY FREESTYLE EVERY DAY AND ONE CLOSE CALL IS ONE TOO MANY. I WANT THIS FIXED ONCE AND FOR ALL. *JS
THE CAR SURGES, JUMPS, SOMETIMES ACCLERATES AND I PUT ON THE BRAKES AND IT WILL SOMETIMES DIE. MAINLY HAPPENS WHEN I AM IN REVERSE/FORWARD OR THE AIR CONDITIONING IS RUNNING. ALSO, DOES THIS WHEN I AM IDLING IN A PARKING LOT OR AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO AUTO REPAIR SHOPS AND THEY THINK IT IS THE COMPUTER. COULDN'T AFFORD TO DO A NEW COMPUTER SO THOUGHT I WOULD HOLD OUT, SINCE IT DOESN'T DO IT ALL THE TIME. NOW IT IS STARTING TO GET WORSE. I TURN THE AIR OFF WHEN STARTING OUT. MY WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND I DON'T HAVE MUCH POWER AND MY RPMS GET UP TO 4 WHEN DRIVING 50MPH. TURN THE CAR OFF AND IT IS LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED. THE CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH MY KIDS NOT KNOWING WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN IN BUSY TRAFFIC,,WILL IT DIE AND SOMEONE HIT ME? THIS ISN'T NORMAL AND I HAVE FOUND OUT MY CAR ISN'T THE ONLY ONE DOING THIS SAME THING. WILL IT REALLY TAKE SOMEONE GETTING VERY HURT FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE? WHAT JUSTICE IS THAT AND KNOWING THAT THIS PROBLEMS EXIST. FIRST TIME BUYING A FORD AND WILL PROBABLY BE THE LAST TIME. I DON'T TRUST THEM. YOU HAVE A PROBLEM YOU FIX IT. THAT IS INTEGRITY & TRUST. STARTING IN MAY, MY CAR WOULD REV UP AND ACCELERATE REAL FAST WHEN I PUT IT INTO REVERSE. SINCE THEN, THE CAR NOT ONLY ACCELERATES IN REVERSE, BUT NOW DOES THE SAME IN DRIVE AND EVEN IN PARK NOW. I HAVE TO SLAM MY FOOT ON THE BREAK TO KEEP FROM CAUSING ACCIDENTS ALL THE TIME NOW. I'M CONSTANTLY GETTING A YELLOW WRENCH ON MY DASH AFTER IT HAPPENS, BUT THEN IT JUST GOES AWAY LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE OCCASIONALLY EXPERIENCES ENGINE REV AND SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN OPERATED AT LOW SPEEDS, USUALLY WHEN THE AC IS IN USE. OCCURS ONLY AFTER IDLING OR OPERATING AT LOW SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 3 MINUTES. EACH TIME I HAD SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT, BUT IT'S BEEN CLOSE. IT HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES IN THE PAST 6-8 WEEKS, PRETTY MUCH SINCE IT HAD GOTTEN WARM ENOUGH TO USE THE AC. NEVER HAPPENED IN THE PAST 3+ YEARS OF OWNERSHIP UNTIL THIS YEAR. NO CRASHES, BUT VERY CONCERNED THAT THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD OFTEN. IT ALSO HAS EXPERIENCED POWER FAILURE ON 4 OCCASIONS IN THE 4 YEARS I HAVE HAD IT. FOR EXAMPLE, OFTEN WHEN I AM IN A PARKING LOT AND PUT THE VEHICLE INTO EITHER DRIVE OR REVERSE IT LUNGES. I ALWAYS KEEP MY FOOT VERY FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE AND IT GROANS SOMETIMES UNDER THE STRAIN. I AM VERY CAREFUL AND HAVE NOT HIT ANYTHING BUT AM WORRIED AS THIS SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE REGULARLY. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER IN AUGUST OF 2009 AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM OR DUPLICATE IT. I TOOK IT IN AGAIN TODAY JUNE 3, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND IN THEIR RECORDS WHERE I HAD IT IN LAST YEAR. I SHOWED THEM MY RECEIPT AS PROOF. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM, BUT THEY WILL NOT JUST CLEAN IT, THEY SAY IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $700 TO ME AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. MY FORD FREESTYLE 2006 KEEPS SURGING FORWARD IN LOW SPEED AND OUT OF PARK CONDITIONS. 1ST TIME IT HAPPENED I THOUGHT MY FOOT HIT THE GAS PEDAL ACCIDENTALLY. BUT IT HAPPENED THE 2ND TIME A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER AS I WAS LEAVING A GAS PUMP. AS SOON AS I REALIZED THAT THE CAR WAS JUMPING FORWARD, I SLAMMED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES WHICH CAUSED THE CAR TO DIE. I RESTARTED IT AND WENT ON MY WAY THINKING IT WAS JUST A WEIRD OCCURRENCE. THE 3RD TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING 5MILES PER HOUR IN MY CHILDREN'S SCHOOL PARKING LOT. CAR SURGED SUDDENLY AND I HAD TO VEER FOR THE SOCCER FIELD TO AVOID OTHER TRAFFIC. AS SOON AS I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES, THE CAR DIED AGAIN. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT I COULDN'T BE SEEN UNTIL 5DAYS LATER B/C THEY WERE BOOKED. I WAS INCREDULOUS B/C THIS SEEMED TO ME TO BE A DANGEROUS MATTER. I CALLED ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHERE THE SERVICE PERSON INSULTED ME BY INTIMATING THAT 1) I MUST HAVE HAD MY CRUISE CONTROL ON - I DID NOT OR 2) THAT MY MAT WAS TANGLED IN MY ACCELERATOR OR 3) "SOMETIMES LADIES HAVE THEIR PURSE BY THEIR FEET AND MAYBE MY PURSE WAS PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR WITHOUT ME KNOWING." I HAD TO ASK HIM IF HE THOUGHT I WAS AN IDIOT FOR CALLING SINCE HE WASN'T TAKING MY CONCERNS FOR A MECHANICAL SAFETY ISSUE SERIOUSLY. I CALLED A FRIEND WHO'S A MECHANIC WHO WENT ONTO THE FORD WEBSITE AND FOUND OUT THAT SEVERAL CUSTOMERS WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND POSTED THEIR CONCERNS ON THE FORD WEBSITE. I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT A PROBLEM WHICH COULD RESULT IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT FOR THE CAR'S OCCUPANTS OR PASSERS-BY WOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN MORE SERIOUSLY AND FORD WOULD HAVE HAD LETTERS MAILED TO ALL THE AFFECTED CUSTOMERS OF THAT MALFUNCTION. RUNNING THE A/C MAKES THE PROBLEM WORSE AND THE CAR TRIES TO SHUT DOWN.THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE LIGHTS START TO FLICKER AND THE AIR BAG AND WRENCH LIGHTS COME ON. WHILE IN PARK THE RPMS WILL RACE TO 3 RPMS WITHOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR. WE HAVE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE SMART JUNCTION BOX BUT THE CAR JUST KEEPS GETTIN WORSE. THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY WHEN THIS STARTED TO HAPPEN BUT THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG SO THEY TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT THIS WAY UNTIL IT DIED THEN TOW IT TO THEM AND THEY WOULD GO BACK TO THE SAME TICKET SINCE THE WARRANTY WAS ALMOST OUT. I FIRST NOTICED OUR 2006 FORD FREESTYLE STARTED LUNGING FORWARD WHEN I WOULD BE IN LINE AT THE DRIVE UP WINDOW AT A RESTAURANT OR THE BANK, NUMEROUS TIMES, ALMOST HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AT FIRST, IT WAS A SUDDEN JOLT IN REVERSE ONLY, THEN IT WAS SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT OR GOING INTO REVERSE AFTER COMING OUT OF PARKING AND THEN SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE SLOWLY TURNING OR STOPPING FOR PEOPLE WALKING BY IN PARKING LOTS. WE NOTICE IT ACTS UP MUCH MORE DURING THE SUMMER WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON FULL BLAST AND THE CAR WILL ACTUALLY SUDDENLY DIE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS TURNING ON AT US. IT IS NOT SAFE FOR MY FAMILY OF FOUR CHILDREN UNDER SIX NOR FOR PEOPLE ON THE STREETS WHO MIGHT BE HIT ACCIDENTALLY FROM THROTTLE BODY ISSUES. SOMETIMES, IT IS DIFFICULT TO STOP THE CAR FROM ACCELERATING! WE HAVE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY OURSELVES TO SEE IF IT WOULD HELP AND IT DID FOR ONLY A SHORT TIME.
