ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2012 AT APPROXIMATELY 7:15 AM, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MILES PER HOUR ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION OF ANOTHER MAJOR HIGHWAY, OUR FORD FREESTYLE QUICKLY LOST ACCELERATION. THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT REACT TO THE DRIVER, WHEN DEPRESSED THE ONLY REACTION FROM THE CAR WAS REVVING OF THE ENGINE (RPM'S). THE VEHICLE WAS SAFELY 'GLIDED' TO THE SHOULDER OF THE BUSY INTERSECTION. OUR FREESTYLE HAD EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. FORD WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR OUR FREESTYLE DUE TO NO LONGER MANUFACTURING THE TRANSMISSION - IT WAS ON BACK ORDER AND UNABLE TO BE PURCHASED BY US TO REPAIR THE CAR. IT WAS SOLD FOR SCRAP AT 55,600 MILES AND 27 DAYS PAST THE 6 YEAR BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. *TR
WHEN I STOP THE CAR AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR ANY STOP, THE CAR IS ACCELERATED. AND HAVE PROBLEMS TO RUN AGAIN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE TO REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE INTO REVERSE OR PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE TORQUE CONVERTER, WHICH WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 175,000.
VEHICLE LUNGES WHILE AT ZERO OR LOW SPEEDS SOMETIMES ALMOST CAUSING A COLLISION WITH OTHER VEHICLES OR STATIONARY ITEMS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH AND APPROACHING A TRAFFIC STOP, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 124,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,500. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED WITH THE BRAKES APPLIED, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED TO 3,000 AS THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,800. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
AT A VERY LOW SPEED THE THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN, AND THE CAR LUNGED BACKWARDS. I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BREAKS HARD TO NOT ZOOM OUT INTO THE PARKING LOT INTO A PASSING CAR. THE CHECK ENGINE, "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON AND THE LUNGING KEPT CONTINUING BOTH IN FORWARD AND REVERSE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. FINALLY, IT APPEARED TO STOP ONCE I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, AND I WAS ABLE TO BACK OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE. AFTER THAT, THERE WAS SOMETHING DEFINITELY WRONG WITH THE THROTTLE ITSELF. I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC AT THE NECESSARY RATE. THIS IS A REOCCURRING PROBLEM AS THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF REPORTS AND COMPLAINTS ABOUT 2005-2006 FREESTYLES AND 500S. I WOULD HOPE THAT FORD WOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND RECALL THIS PART FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND EVERYONE ON THE ROADWAY. *TR
I WAS BACKING UP IN THE DRIVE WAY AND THE CAR ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN THE ENGINE RPGS WENT TO 4000 WITHOUT ME PRESSING THE GAS. THE CALL CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNTIL I PRESSED BRAKES AND IT STALLED. *TR
ANYTIME I GO FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE AT IDLE SPEED MY CAR LUNGES. ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. THE CAR LUNGED SO HARD IT THROUGH CODES AND THE WRENCH ON THE DASH LITE UP AND CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION POWER. I PARKED THE CAR AND DROVE IT THE NEXT DAY AND THE POWER WAS BACK AND THE WRENCH WAS NOT LITE ANYMORE. IT REALLY SCARES ME TO DRIVE THIS CAR. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED WITH ONLY 65,000 AT A COST OF $6000. FORD IS AWARE OF CVT TRANSMISSION DEFECTS AND FAILURE IN IT'S 2005 THRU 2007 FREESTYLES, YET IT HAS DONE NOTHING TO ASSIST ITS CUSTOMERS WITH THIS ISSUE, DESPITE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM THE VEHICLE OWNERS INCLUDING MYSELF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING UNDER 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AUTOMATICALLY WITH NO WARNINGS WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THE MECHANIC CLEANED THE THROTTLE HOUSING BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
2006 FORD FREESTYLE AT LOW SPEEDS ALL OF A SUDDEN LUNGES BOTH IN REVERSE OR IN DRIVE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THE CAUSED OF THE FAILURE WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
CAR LUNGES FORWARD WHEN AT A STOP BUT STILL ON DRIVE, BRAKES MUST BE IMMEDIATELY APPLIED OR THE CAR WILL TAKE OFF BY ITSELF. HAPPENS MORE WHEN THE SHIFT IS IN THE DRIVE POSITION BUT IS BEING HELD BY THE BRAKE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME LIKE IN A LINE, A DRIVE THRU, OR LONG TRAFFIC LIGHT. VERY SCARY! *TR
I HAVE OWNED MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE FOR JUST OVER A YEAR....IN THIS SHORT TIME I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP TWICE, BOTH FOR MAJOR REPAIRS. THE FIRST TIME WAS WITHIN WEEKS OF MY DRIVING IT OFF THE LOT; ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR STOPPED RECOGNIZING THE KEY (I GUESS IT'S A SMART KEY WITH A CHIP EMBEDDED IN IT). I HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED TO TWO DEALERSHIPS BEFORE THE SECOND ONE HAD IT FOR MULTIPLE DAYS BEFORE GETTING IT BACK. THIS TIME I WAS LEAVING THE STORE WITH MY DAUGHTERS. I STARTED MY CAR AND SHIFTED THE GEAR TO DRIVE AND ALTHOUGH MY CAR MADE THE ACCELERATING SOUND, IT WENT ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE. I THEN TRIED TO REVERSE IT AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO SEE WHAT IT WOULD DO. I ONCE AGAIN HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND IT HAS NOW BEEN AT THE CURRENT DEALERSHIP FOR OVER A WEEK AND THEY ARE HAVING TO DISASSEMBLE MY TRANSMISSION TO DETERMINE WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. I DID A VERY GENERIC SEARCH ON GOOGLE FOR RECALLS ON MY CAR AND STUMBLED UPON WWW.EDMUNDS.COM WHERE THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT TRANSMISSION ISSUES IN THE 2006 AND 2007 FORD FREESTYLES AS WELL AS LUNGING ISSUES. MY CAR DID THIS ONCE WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL. I WAS TURNING A CURB AND FELT IT ACCELERATE IMMEDIATELY AND IT SHOCKED ME SO THAT I THREW ON MY BRAKES AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. OUT OF THIS LETTER, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL ON THE 2006 FORD FREESTYLES FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES WHERE THE MANUFACTURER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR NEGLIGENCE IN MAKING THESE CARS AND REPAIRS ASSOCIATED WITH IT. THIS IS MY THIRD CAR THAT I HAVE OWNED AND MY FIRST FORD CAR. AFTER THESE ISSUES IN SUCH A SHORT TIME OF OWNERSHIP I PROMISE YOU IT WILL BE MY LAST FORD. VERY UNHAPPY FREESTYLE OWNER!!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN REVERSE WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED AS THE VEHICLE JERKED IN REVERSE. THE SAME FAILURE RECURRED WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE ALSO DECELERATED WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE FAILURE OCCURRED MOSTLY WHEN THE WEATHER WAS WARM AND WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARD OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000. *TR
BACKING FROM DRIVEWAY INTO THE STREET, CAR SURGED BUT WAS ABLE TO STOP IT WHEN BRAKE APPLIED. AT THAT POINT THE VEHICLE STALLED. ABLE TO RESTART AND CONTINUE WITHOUT INCIDENT BUT WARNING "WRENCH" LIGHT WAS ON INDICATING THROTTLE / TRANSMISSION FAULT WAS DETECTED AND SERVICE REQUIRED. AFTER RESTARTING LATER THAT DAY NO PROBLEMS NOTICED AND NO WARNING LIGHT. THIS WAS THE MOST SEVERE CASE SO FAR BUT HAD NOTICED SOME SMALL SURGING IN PRIOR WEEKS BOTH IN REVERSE AND DRIVE WHEN STARTING OUT BOTH FROM COLD START AND FROM RESTART CONDITIONS. FURTHER RESEARCH SUGGESTS THIS IS A WELL KNOW THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM FOR FORD FREESTYLE / 500 / MONTEGO MODELS FROM 2005 / 2006 TIMEFRAME. SAFETY RISK IS SIGNIFICANT, CANNOT LET OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS OR ANY LESS EXPERIENCED OPERATORS DRIVE THIS VEHICLE UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS ADDRESSED. REPLACEMENT OR AT LEAST MAINTENANCE FOR THIS KNOWN FAULTY SYSTEM SHOULD BE PROVIDED AT NO CHARGE BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
WE WERE IN A PARKING LOT. I HAD JUST SHIFTED IN TO REVERSE AND LIGHTED UP ON THE BRAKE, AND THE CAR THROTTLED BACKWARDS. I QUICKLY PRESSED THE BRAKE AND THE CAR STALLED OR QUIT. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND THE CAR THROTTLED BACKWARDS AGAIN. I PRESSED THE BRAKE, BUT IT DIDN'T STALL THIS TIME. I SLOWLY RELEASED THE BRAKE AND WAS ABLE TO BACK OUT OF MY SPOT. A LITTLE WHILE LATER, HAVING ARRIVED AT ANOTHER DESTINATION, ABOUT 10 MILES AWAY, I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT, IN DRIVE, AND AFTER RELEASING THE THROTTLE, TO APPLY THE BREAK AS I WAS COASTING IN, THE CAR 'THROTTLED' AGAIN. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NOT ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE SPACE IN FRONT OF ME OR I WOULD HAVE PROBABLY HAD A FENDER BENDER. *TR
I WAS PULLING IN TO WALMART PARKING LOT PULLED UP BEHIND A PARKED VEHICLE I WAS ALMOST STOPPED WHEN MY CAR ACCELERATED IT WAS ALMOST LIKE SOME ONE PUSHED MY GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR I HAD TO JUMP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET THEN THE CAR STALLED AND WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR I HAD NO POWER I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF THEN RESTARTED IT AGAIN THEN IT WAS FINE. *TR
CAR LUNGES FORWARD WHEN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE AND AIR CONDITIONING IS ON. WHILE FOOT IS ON BRAKE, THE CAR LUNGES WANTING TO MOVE FORWARD. I WAS IN A CAR LINE TO PICK UP MY KIDS FROM SCHOOL AND IT WAS 105 OUTSIDE AND I HAD THE AIR ON. WHEN THE FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE THE CAR REVS UP AND TRIES TO MOVE FORWARD. IT HAS DONE IT A COUPLE TIMES IN THE PAST, BUT VERY SOFTLY (MOSTLY WHEN PUTTING IT INTO REVERSE). THIS HAPPENED YESTERDAY AND IT WOULDN'T STOP. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH THAT I WOULD HIT A CAR OR A CHILD WALKING TO THE CARS. ONLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY FOOT WAS ON THE BREAK DID I NOT MOVE MORE THAN A COUPLE INCHES, THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE IT STOP WAS TO TURN THE CAR OFF. I WAS STUCK IN THE CAR LINE AND HAD TO TURN MY CAR ON TO MOVE EVERY COUPLE MINUTES AND WAS SO SCARED THAT I WOULD HIT SOMEBODY/SOMETHING. I DIDN'T SEE THE TACHOMETER MOVE VERY MUCH BUT THE FORCE OF THE CAR WAS SCARY. THE WRENCH LIGHT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BOTH CAME ON. FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. OF COURSE, FORD SAYS THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE FRESTYLE MODEL AND THAT I NEED TO HAVE MY THROTTLE BODY LOOKED AT WHICH IS NOT COVERED BY THEM AS I'M OUT OF WARRANTY. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I'M TAKING MY CAR TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC. I CAN'T TRUST FORD. I?VE ALREADY HAD MY CVT TRANSMISION REPLACED WITH FORD (IN 2010) AS IT COMPLETELY FAILED AND OF COURSE THAT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY TOO. FILE WITH PE11018. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD ONLY OCCUR WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED NOT TO RUN THE AIR CONDITIONER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT THEN CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE MASTER AIR FLOW SENSOR AND THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
OUR VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAKING NOISES SINCE AUGUST, 2012. IT ALSO LUNGES FORWARD WHEN IN PARK AND WHEN GOING AT LOW SPEED. AFRAID IT IS GOING TO LUNGE FORWARD AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR HIT SOMEONE IN CROSSWALK. WE HAVE HAD WORK DONE ON THIS VEHICLE AND NOBODY CAN TELL US WHAT THE ISSUE IS. WE HAVE CONTACTED FORD AS IT APPEARS THEY HAVE HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND NO RESPONSE. *TR
WIFE WAS DRIVING ON I540 NEAR RALEIGH, NC AND CAR "WRENCH" ICON CAME ON AND CAR DECELERATED QUICKLY CAUSING A DANGEROUS CONDITION. CAR WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN AND REQUIRED TOWING TO A SAFE PLACE. APPEARS THAT THE THROTTLE CONTROLLER MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING THE CAR TO BE DISABLED TEMPORARILY. AFTER THE CAR COOLED THE THROTTLE WORKED BUT WE ELECTED NOT TO DRIVE UNTIL A LOCAL MECHANIC COULD CHECK OUT THIS CONDITION / PROBLEM. WE TOWED THE VEHICLE ON A TRAILER TO LOCAL GARAGE NEAR OUR HOME. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP IN A PARKING LOT WHEN SUDDENLY, THE RPMS BEGAN TO INCREASE WITH A RAPID ACCELERATION. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED TWICE THEN THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 MPH. I TOOK MY FOOT OF THE GAS AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUDDERED AND SHIFTED INTO LOWER GEAR. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I COULDN'T ACCELERATE PROPERLY TO KEEP UP WITH HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TURN THE CAR OFF. WHEN I TURNED IT ON AGAIN, THE CAR ACTED NORMALLY. THIS SAME SCENARIO PLAYED OUT SEVERAL MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. I TOOK IT TO A FORD MECHANIC WHO SAID THE THROTTLE BODY WAS SENDING INCORRECT SIGNALS TO THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS THE FAMILY CAR. I FEEL LUCKY THAT OUR SUDDEN CHANGE IN SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY DIDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR

MY FAMILY WAS SITTING IN THE CAR WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN DRIVE. IT STALLED OUT AND MADE A STRANGE SOUND THAT SOUNDED LIKE A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN IT IS HOT IT SEEMS TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT USUALLY HAPPENS AT LOW SPEEDS AND REVERSE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS CAR ONLINE AND HAVE READ THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO QUITE A FEW OF THESE CARS. I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN NOTED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
98 DEGREES (103 WITH HEAT INDEX), SAT IN PARKING LOT WITH AC ON HIGH FOR 3 - 5 MINUTES. BACKED OUT OF PARKING STALL, AND APPROACHED STOP SIGN. WHEN HIT BRAKES THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD. PULLED OUT OF LOT AND 'WRENCH' LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR WOULDN'T RUN RIGHT. TONIGHT TESTED THE CAR AGAIN AND IT RUNS FINE. I HAVE A 2006 FREESTYLE AND IT HAS THE LUNGING PROBLEM WITH THE AIR ON AND OR THE STEERING WHEEL BEING MOVED. HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE BACK OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY OR PARKING SPOT, SOMETIMES SITTING IN AN INTERSECTION WAITING TO TURN ALSO. THE CAR SURGES IN BOTH REVERSE AND FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. AND TO BE CLEAR ABOUT THE FIRST DATE OF OCCURRENCE, I PUT TODAY'S DATE BECAUSE WE HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS NOW AND DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS. I WAS PARKING MY VEHICLE IN THE LOCAL WALMART LOT AND THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. I PUSHED THE BRAKES TO STOP IT FROM GOING TO FAR AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF. THE THROTTLE BODY UNIT WAS MALFUNCTIONING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STRAIN, LURCH, AND ACCELERATE WITHOUT DEPRESSION OF ACCELERATOR. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS CLEANED AND THEN ABOUT 2 MONTHS AFTER, THE MALFUNCTION RETURNED. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH, I VIEWED DOZENS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, SOME AT LOW SPEEDS IN PARKING LOTS, IN WHICH PEDESTRIANS WERE ALMOST STRUCK. *TR
AIR TEMPERATURE WAS 100 AND MY 2006 FREESTYLE WAS IDLING. THEN, WHEN STOPPED IN CITY TRAFFIC, CAR SURGED UNEXPECTEDLY REQUIRING ME TO PRESS HARD ON THE BRAKES, THEN STALLED. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. AFTER SITTING AND COOLING FOR 2+ HOURS, THE CAR RAN FINE. HOWEVER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. BECAUSE I AM ON VACATION, I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY, WHICH HE SAID WAS PRETTY COMMON. REPLACED THE ASSEMBLY FOR $1300 FOR FEAR THE PROBLEM COULD HAPPEN AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

MY CAR ACCELERATES SOMETIMES WHILE MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT FEELS LIKE IT IS JUMPING FORWARD OR SOMETHING. WHILE FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD LIKE THE GAS WENT BY ITSELF. THEN AT A STOP LIGHT THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND APPLIED THE GAS. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO. THE GAS PEDDLE WAS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. LATER I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND THE CAR STALLED AND DIED. MY WIFE IS SCARED TO DEATH AND IS AFRAID IT IS GOING TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY TRUSTED AUTO REPAIR PLACE. THEY STATED THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM WITH THE FREESTYLES AND SURPRISED IT WAS NOT RECALLED YET. *TR

WHILE NAVIGATING AND ENTERING A CAR WASH VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND I NEARLY STRUCK THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I APPLIED HARD BRAKES AND VEHICLE STOPPED. VEHICLE THEN STALLED OUT. VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL AND I TURNED IT BACK ON. UPON PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND STOPPED WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. *JS
WHILE SEARCHING FOR A PARKING SPACE IN A BUSY MALL PARKING LOT, TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE CAR LUNGED. I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS AND HAD TO BRAKE HARD TO KEEP IT FROM MOVING FORWARD. THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I FOUND A PARKING SPACE AND WHEN I RETURNED TO THE CAR THE LIGHT WAS OFF. A MINOR VERSION OF ABOVE DID OCCUR AGAIN. NOW IT CONSTANTLY IDLES HIGHER AND IT HAS PRODUCED THE SAME LUNGE BUT NOT AS NOTICEABLE MULTIPLE TIMES. MY A/C WAS ON HIGH AND THE OUTSIDE TEMP. WAS HIGH DURING THESE OCCURRENCES. *JS
