TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS RELEASED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT A WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,385.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, CAR FAILED TO HAVE CONTINUED FORWARD PROPULSION AND STALLED. THIS HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY SINCE THEN. I CAN'T IDLE, RUN HEAT OR A/C FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES, WHILE CONSISTENTLY KEEPING MY RPMS OVER 1500 WITHOUT IT STALLING. ( AS I LIVE IN MICHIGAN THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM!) NOW I CAN'T GET IT TO START AT ALL. MY HUSBAND BEING GOOD WITH CARS HAS FLUSHED THE THROTTLE BODY TWICE (RECOMMENDED ACTION WE COULD FIND ON INTERNET AT THE TIME.) HAS STALLED AT A VARIETY OF SPEEDS, WHILE DRIVING IN A VARIETY OF SETTINGS. *TR
VEHICLE FOR OVER A YEAR HAS LUNGED FORWARD OR BACKWARD DEPENDING ON GEAR IT IS IN. THIS ONLY TAKES PLACE WHEN THE A/C IS ON IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS INCONSISTENT BUT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN THAN NOT. THE LUNGE IS DRASTIC ENOUGH THAT IT IS A HAZARD AND HAS CAUSED SEVERAL ISSUES IN THE PAST. THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED TO WORSEN. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED AT THIS POINT BUT WAS ON THE LIST TO BEEN SEEN NEXT WEEK. ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE HAS TAKEN PLACE UP TO THIS POINT. TODAY WAS THE WORST PART OF THE ISSUE. WHILE TRAVELING 75 ON THE INTERSTATE, THE "WRENCH" ICON ON THE INFORMATION PANEL CAME ON. AT THIS POINT ALL ACCELERATION WAS DISABLED AND COULD NOT KEEP UP WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT GET ABOVE 60 IN ORDER TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PARK AND CREATED A SIGNIFICANTLY HAZARDOUS SITUATION. IN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, I HAVE FOUND OVER 242 FILED COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME PROBLEM. WE WILL BE DROPPING THE VEHICLE OFF AT THE DEALER ASAP. HOW MANY REPORTED INCIDENTS DOES IT TAKE BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE? OR WILL IT TAKE A LOSS OF HUMAN LIFE TO TAKE NOTICE OF THE NUMEROUS FILED COMPLAINTS? *TR
AFTER FILING A COMPLAINT ON OR ABOUT 6/28/12 (ODI NUMBER 10463545) IN REGARD TO ANOTHER 2006 FORD FREESTYLE I OWN AND OPERATE, I NOW HAVE TO REPORT THE IDENTICAL DEFECT WITH MY OTHER 2006 FREESTYLE. AFTER PARKING MY FIRST FREESTYLE UNTIL REPAIRS CAN BE MADE, THIS FREESTYLE (NOW BEING REPORTED) HAS BECOME THE MAJOR TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE OF THE HOUSEHOLD. NOW THIS VEHICLE HAS BEGUN SURGING IN RPMS AND 'LUNGING' WHENEVER THE BRAKE IS RELEASED. THIS OCCURRENCE WAS IN 95 DEGREE WEATHER WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING. I DON'T KNOW IF THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE PLAYS A ROLE IN THE DEFECT OCCURRING BUT BOTH VEHICLES WERE AT MAXIMUM OPERATING TEMPERATURES, HAD BEEN RUNNING FOR A LENGTH OF TIME WHEREAS A HIGHER 'COLD ENGINE' IDLE WOULD HAVE NO BEARING ON THE OCCURRENCES. SINCE I HAVEN'T AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE FIRST VEHICLE I REPORTED ON 6/28/12 (A RECENT PURCHASE), I HAVE ORDERED AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY W/TPS (NON-HEATED WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY A FORD SUPERCESSION) AND WILL ATTEMPT TO REPLACE IT MYSELF AS A COST SAVINGS MEASURE. SINCE FILING MY ISSUE I'VE FOUND VIA THE INTERNET THAT OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM HAVE PAID UPWARD OF $1,200.00 TO HAVE THIS WORK PERFORMED. AFTER ORDERING MY PARTS I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS PARTICULAR THROTTLE BODY WAS INSTALLED ON 2005-2007 FORD FREESTYLES AS WELL AS THEIR FORD FIVE HUNDRED (OF WHICH I ALSO OWN A 2007 MODEL YEAR OF WITH APPROX 20K MILES). IS THERE ANY TRUTH TO THE RUMOR THAT BAD LUCK ALWAYS COMES IN THREE'S? I CERTAINLY HOPE NOT!! AS OF EARLIER THIS MORNING (7/01/12), WITH A COOL TEMPERATURE OF 75 DEGREES F., THIS DEFECT DID NOT RE-OCCUR, BUT MY OTHER VEHICLE ALSO BEGAN TO 'ACT UP' AS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT EVENTUALLY WOULDN'T GO AWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD HAVE TO BE RESET. THE MECHANIC REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE HE COULD NOT PERFORM THE REPAIR. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE I71/I75 MY REAR BRAKES LOCKED UP. MY BRAKE PADS WERE CUTTING INTO MY ROTORS. AFTER CHECKING THE BRAKES WHEN I GOT BACK HOME I FOUND THAT THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS WERE FROZEN ON BOTH SIDES (REAR LEFT REAR RIGHT). THE ROTORS, CALIPERS AND BRAKE PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW REMEMBER THE CAR HAS ONLY 21,900 MILES ON IT. *TR

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND PROCEED WITHOUT THE FAILURE RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000. ....UPDATED 08-24-12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. WHILE DRIVING THE FORD REVS UP AND DOWN, WHILE IT IS DOING THIS IT LURCHES FORWARD AND I LOSE ALL DASHBOARD INSTRUMENTS, I CANNOT USE THE AIR CONDITIONING BECAUSE IT MAKES THE PROBLEM WORSE.THE SCARY PART IS I HAVE MY FAMILY IN THE CAR WHEN ALL THIS HAPPENS. ON THURSDAY JUNE 21 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 50MILES AN HOUR WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR RPM REVVED UP AND DOWN ON ITS OWN THE SPEEDOMETER WENT OUT, THE LIGHTS ALL FLASHED. THE CAR WAS LURCHING FORWARD, AND IT WAS WORSE WHEN I WAS ATTEMPTING TO SLOW DOWN. MY DAUGHTER STATED"I AM SCARED" I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED, WHEN WE WERE AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM WE TOLD THEM WHAT WAS HAPPENING, THEY DIDN'T EVEN OFFER TO LOOK AT THE CAR OR SEEM TO CARE. THE PROBLEM IS VERY UNPREDICTABLE, ONE DAY IT RUNS GOOD THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT FREAKS OUT. *TT

THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHILE IN REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TEST RESULTS INDICATED A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS NOT REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AT 50,000 MILES APX. AFTER GOOGLING I FOUND THIS IS COMMON WITH THIS CAR. I ALSO AM CURRENTLY DEALING WITH WHAT I THINK ITS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. I DID A SEARCH ON EDMUNDS.COM AND FOUND A 12 PAGE THREAD OF PEOPLE HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES. THE CAR WITH REVVED UP AND LURCHED BACKWARDS AND ALSO FORWARDS WHICH IS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. I'VE HAD ISSUES WITH GETTING THE CAR TO GO ABOVE A CERTAIN SPEED AS WELL. I WILL PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE AND EASE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND NOT EVEN TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL AND FLY BACKWARDS. I AM TERRIFIED THAT ONE OF THESE DAYS I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STOP THE CAR. I AM GOING TO HAVE IT FIXED BUT FROM READING OTHERS EXPERIENCES IT ONLY SOLVES THE PROBLEM FOR A YEAR OR TWO AND THEN THEY ARE BACK TO THE START AGAIN. 2006 FORD FREESTYLE EXPERIENCED UNEXPECTED IDLE SPEED ACCELERATION OR LUNGING. THESE LUNGE WAS SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED, THE FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR AND THE VEHICLE WAS AT IDLE. THIS ISSUE WAS INTERMITTENT AND OCCURRED UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BOTH IN DRIVE AND REVERSE - AND THIS ACCELERATION WHEN OR SHORTLY AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED INTO GEAR. AGGRESSIVE BRAKING STOPPED THE ACCELERATION. ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED. *TR
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND CAR SURGED. IT WENT UP OVER THE CURB IND INTO SOME SHRUBS AND PUSHED OVER SIGN.SECOND OCCURENCE WAS SATURDAY JULY 6TH 2014. I WAS IN A PARKING DECK AND THE CAR SURGED ON AND OFF AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO FIND A PARKING SPACE. WE AVOIDED MULTIPLE MISHAPS BY SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL AND HITTING THE BRAKES HARD. THE SITUATION WAS VERY HAZARDOUS BECAUSE OF CROWDED VEHICLE AND PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS AN IMMEDIATE RECALL. WE WERE IN LINE AT A FAST FOOD DRIVE THRU AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD , THE TACH RPM WENT FROM ABOUT 800 RPM (IDLE) TO ABOUT 2600 RPM . FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AT THE TIME SO IT ONLY MOVED ABOUT 6 INCHES. WE PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT AND WERE READY TO GO AND IT DID IT AGAIN. AN ENGINE LITE CAME ON THAT INDICATED SOMETHING FROM THE TRANSMISSION TO THE THROTTLE WAS AMISS. WE SHUT THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE LITE WAS OFF. SO FAR WE HAVE NOT HAD ANOTHER INCIDENCE AND ITS BEEN A WEEK AND ABOUT 300 MILES SINCE THE OCCURRENCE. *TR

HE DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE THEN STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARD AND THE CONTACT QUICKLY SHIFTED TO PARK, STOPPING THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING ANY FURTHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,953. THE CAR IDLED HIGH WHILE IN A DRIVE THROUGH LINE WITH A FOOT ON THE BRAKE, IT DID THIS TWICE. AFTER IT IDLED BACK DOWN AND MY WIFE REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD. LUCKILY, THERE WAS ENOUGH DISTANCE BETWEEN THE CARS TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. SHE SLAMMED HER FOOT BACK ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR IDLED A LITTLE LONGER THEN DIED. *JB

SINCE ABOUT JUNE OF 2012, WRENCH INDICATOR WILL INTERMITTENTLY COME ON AFTER DRIVING 30-100 MILES. I STOP THE VEHICLE, TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND AFTER A FEW SECONDS TURN THE IGNITION ON AND IT SEEMS OK. SOMETIMES I CAN GO OVER 100 MILES WITHOUT THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AFTER THE WRENCH BUT THIS INDICATOR STAYS ON AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION BACK ON AND STAYS ON FOR A DAY OR TWO. THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS IS A MOST LIKELY A CVT PROBLEM BUT I HAVE NO ASSURANCE THAT THIS WILL BE THE FIX. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE NOTICED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. FROM THE BLOGS I'VE READ, FORD SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ADDRESSING THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE HAS LURCHED FORWARD OR BACKWARD WITHOUT HAVING MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. APPLYING THE BRAKE HAS STOPPED THE CAR. THE REAR BUMPER WAS DAMAGED WHEN IT HIT A LIGHT POLE. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN IT'S WARMER OUTSIDE AND WHEN RUNNING THE AIR CONDITIONING. I'M VERY CONCERNE SOMEONE MIGHT GET INJURED. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHILE IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO REPLACE EGR VAILE AND THE CRANK SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,399 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
WHILE BACKING UP THE CAR LUNGES WHEN FOOT IS STILL ON THE BRAKE. CAR WILL OCCASIONALLY LUNGE FORWARD WHEN PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT OR WHEN STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. VERY UNSAFE!!!!!! MUST MAKE SURE MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE HARD WHEN STOPPED OR BE READY TO QUICKLY BRAKE WHEN BACKING UP. THE AC IS SOMETIMES ON WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND THE TEMPERATURE IS IN THE UPPER 80'S. WE LIVE IN COLORADO SPRINGS, CO AND 80 DEGREE TEMP ARE PRETTY HOT HERE. LATELY IT HAS BEEN IN THE 90 DEGREE + RANGE AND THE ISSUE HAS BEEN HAPPENING MORE. MY WIFE MOSTLY DRIVES THIS CAR AND OUR TEENAGE DAUGHTER, NEW DRIVE WITH A PERMIT, IS LEARNING TO DRIVE, THIS IS NOT SAFE!!!. PLEASE PUT PRESSURE ON FORD TO FIX THIS SAFETY ITEM. VEHICLE LUNGES AND HAS POOR GAS MILEAGE. WE HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN SEVERAL ACCIDENTS AND GOING THRU BRAKES MORE THAN NORMAL DUE TO THIS ISSUE. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON, THE RPM SHOT UP AND THE THE CAR STARTED TO LUNGE FORWARD. CAR WAS SITTING, PARKED IN A LOT, IDLING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING. WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND LET MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AS THE RPM'S FIRST REVVED AND THEN DROPPED. THE CAR DID THIS A FEW TIMES, BUT ONCE I GOT TURNED AROUND TOWARD THE EXIT OF THE LOT, IT STOPPED DOING IT. ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER, IN A GROCERY STORE PARKING SPACE, IT DID THE SAME THING AS I WAS BACKING OUT TO LEAVE. THE CAR HAD SAT RUNNING FOR ANOTHER 10 MINUTES OR SO WITH THE AIR ON. THIS TIME HOWEVER, THE CAR IDLED UP AND THEN DOWN, LUNGED IN REVERSE, AND THEN IDLED SO LOW IT DIED. ONCE I RESTARTED IT AND FINISHED BACKING OUT OF THE SPACE, I TURNED THE AIR DOWN TO LOW FAN SPEED AND THE CAR WAS FINE THE REST OF THE TRIP BACK HOME. *TR

FREQUENTLY DURING VEHICLE HISTORY AT IDLE THE VEHICLE'S MOTOR WILL SURGE TO APPROXIMATELY 2000 RPM AND LUNGE FORWARD AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA ACTION ITEM PE11018. I HAVE HAD FORD REPLACE MY THROTTLE BODY AT APPROXIMATELY 70,000 MILES, WHICH FIXED THIS ISSUE FOR A WHILE, BUT IT HAS NOW STARTED THIS AGAIN. OUR '06 FREESTYLE LURCHED FORWARD WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ALLOW A PEDESTRIAN TO PASS IN A PARKING LOT. THE ENGINE SPEED INCREASED AND MORE BRAKE PRESSURE HAD TO BE APPLIED TO STOP THE CAR. SLIGHT ENGINE REVVING WAS FIRST NOTICED AT A MILEAGE OF ~60,000 MILES AND GREW OVER THE NEXT 10,000 TO THE POINT OF THE CAR ACTUALLY LURCHING FORWARD UNLESS HEAVY PRESSURE WAS APPLIED ON THE BREAKS. EVENTUALLY, I LEARNED THAT IF I HAD THE A/C ON MAX, VEHICLE STOPPED AND IDLING, LIGHT PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES, A TURN OF THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD MAKE THE CAR LURCH EVERY TIME. THE LURCHING MADE PARKING, ESPECIALLY PARALLEL PARKING, WHICH REQUIRES THE STEERING WHEEL TO BE TURNED RIGHT AND LEFT, A RISK TO NEARBY PEDESTRIANS. ON-LINE POSTS AND FORUMS LED ME TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED FOR THE PAST FEW HUNDRED MILES. *TR

CVT TRANSMISSION BAD AND HAS TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE TORCH CONVERTER ON THE CVT TRANS BUT REPLACING IT DOESNT REALLY FIX THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM. ONCE IT GOES BAD YOU HAVE BITS AND PIECES OF METAL FLOATING AROUND ALL OVER EVERYWHERE ELSE AND THE TRANSMISSION JUST GOES REGARDLESS. USELESS RECALL. AFTER RESTART, PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE RECURRING BUT BEGAN TO FUNCTION MORE NORMALLY. ON THE NEXT RESTART (TRYING TO DRIVE TO REPAIR SHOP) THERE WAS ANOTHER EPISODE OF LUNGING WHEN TRYING TO STOP (FOOT ON BRAKE, NOT ACCELERATOR.) PRETTY SCARY. MY SHOP FOUND CODES, DID RESEARCH, AND SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED THROTTLE-BODY AND A BROKEN UPPER ENGINE MOUNT. THEY ALSO RE-FLASHED THE COMPUTER. 1 MONTH AGO THEY HAD REPLACED THE BATTERY. DROVE HOME OK, AND NO ISSUES IN LAST FEW DAYS, BUT HAVE READ ANECDOTES THAT THESE PROBLEMS CONTINUE ONCE THEY START. WHILE TRAVELING HOME FROM HOLIDAY, MY WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON IN THE CAR AND WE COULD SMELL THE ENGINE BEGINNING TO OVERHEAT. MY ENGINE WAS TRYING TO LUNGE FORWARD EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. MY VEHICLE THEN STARTED TO DECELERATE AND I BARELY MADE IT OFF FROM THE HIGHWAY VIA AN EXIT RAMP. PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND OPENED THE HOOD TO LET THE ENGINE COOL OFF. I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM MAY BE GEAR OR TRANSMISSION RELATED OR PERHAPS BAD GAS. I TRIED A TRICK TOLD TO ME BY MECHANIC FRIEND TO BACK UP THE CAR AND GO FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 40-50 FEET, STOP THE VEHICLE AND REPEAT THE MOVEMENT AGAIN TO RESET THE TRANSMISSION CONTROLS. I ALSO ADDED FUEL INJECTION CLEANER AND FILLED THE TANK AGAIN. AFTER FUEL INJECTION AND LETTING THE CAR SIT, IT WAS OKAY FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP. HAD ANOTHER INCIDENT JUST RECENTLY (JULY 2012). THE SAME WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR ONCE AGAIN LUNGED AND DECELERATED AND I HAD TO PULL OFF. LUCKILY, THERE WAS A GAS STATION AT EXIT AGAIN. AND, LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THROUGH TRAFFIC WHEN DECELERATING WITHOUT HARM TO MY FAMILY. I BOUGHT MORE FUEL INJECTION CLEANER AND FILLED THE TANK. I THEN LET THE CAR SIT AGAIN. THAT SEEMED TO HELP. WE MADE IT HOME AFTER ANOTHER REST STOP FOR THE CAR. SHORTLY AFTER, MY HUSBAND USED THROTTLE BODY CLEANER TO CLEAN OUT MY FUEL INJECTION PATHWAY. HE REMOVED AIR CONNECTION AND FOUND THE THROTTLE BODY TO BE CLOGGED WITH GUNKY MATERIAL AND SPRAYED A GOOD DOSE OF THE CLEANER INTO IT WHILE I GUNNED THE ENGINE TO CLEAR IT OUT. I AM NOW USING FUEL INJECTION CLEANER WITH EVERY GAS FILLUP TO MITIGATE THE PROBLEM. I KNOW I PROBABLY NEED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE THROTTLE BODY, BUT I AM LEARY FROM WHAT I'VE READ ON INTERNET WITH OTHERS HAVING SAME PROBLEM, REPLACING THROTTLE BODY AND THEN IT HAVING TO DO IT AGAIN A YEAR LATER. I COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I CONTINUED TO THE GROCER. AFTER SHOPPING, WHEN I BACKED OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE, THE CAR LUNGED, THEN STALLED. IT TOOK A BIT, BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET IT RESTARTED. I DROVE HOME, BUT IT WOULDN'T GO FASTER THAN 20 MPH. THE NEXT DAY, I WAS GOING TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT IT WAS RUNNING PERFECTLY. IT'S BEEN 2 MONTHS NOW AND THE ISSUE HAS NOT RECURRED, BUT I'M VERY LEERY OF TAKING THE CAR ON A LONG DRIVE. I DON'T WANT TO GET STRANDED FAR FROM HOME.

AFTER STARTING ENGINE, PLACED IN REVERSE AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED BACKWARD WHILE MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE. LATER, ENGINE WAS PERIODICALLY SURGING FORWARD AS I KEPT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHILE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC UNTIL THE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AT WHICH TIME THE ENGINE DIED. RESTARTED ENGINE AND IDLED SMOOTHLY UNTIL I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND STARTED LURCHING FORWARD AGAIN AS "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. IDLE RPM WAS FLUCTUATING BETWEEN 400 TO 1,000 RPM WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. HAD TO KEEP LEFT FOOT ON BRAKE WITH RIGHT FOOT ON ACCELERATOR TO KEEP ENGINE RUNNING WITHOUT BUCKING. MOVED TO SIDE OF ROAD AND TURNED OFF ENGINE TO WAIT OUT TRAFFIC. RESTARTED ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER AND DROVE HOME WITH NO MORE PROBLEMS, BUT NOTICED THAT IT PERIODICALLY BUCKS WHEN IDLING SO HAD CAR SERVICED AND THEY SAID THAT THE COMPUTER HAD RESET ITSELF. THE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION(CVT) FOUND IN MY FORD FREESTYLE 2006 VEHICLE CONTAINS DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING DEFECTS THAT LEAD TO POWERTRAIN FAILURE.. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS SAFETY PROBLEM SINCE 2005 AND HAS ISSUED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS TO DEALERS REGARDING THE DEFECT, BUT IT HAS NEVER INFORMED ME AND OTHER CONSUMER(S). THIS VEHICLE(S) AND THEIR CVT TRANSMISSIONS FAIL, SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY, AT ANY TIME AND UNDER ANY DRIVING CONDITION OR SPEED, FURTHER, SUDDEN LOSS OF FORWARD PROPULSION AND DELAYED ACCELERATION HAS HAD SERIOUS EFFECTS ON HANDLING, STABILITY, ACCELERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF SPEED. THESE CONDITIONS AND RISKS CAN THEREBY CONTRIBUTE TO TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS, WHICH CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH. THANK GOD THIS HAS NOT YET HAPPENED TO MY FAMILY. WE HAVE COME CLOSE ON MULTIPLE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. FORD HAS CHOSEN TO ACTIVELY CONCEAL THE DEFECTIVE CVT TRANSMISSIONS IN THE FORD FREESTYLES. THIS HAS PUT MY FAMILY DRIVERS' IN DANGER AND COST US OVER 3300 DOLLARS IN REPAIRS. THIS WAS IN JUNE OF 2012. NOW, THE KISTLER DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME REPAIRS WOULD BE OVER 7300 DOLLARS TO REPAIR WITH 156K MILES ON THE VEHICLE (APPROX 46K MORE SINCE THE FIRST REPAIR). AS A REASONABLE CONSUMER I WOULD EXPECT AND ASSUME THAT A VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION IS SAFE, WILL FUNCTION IN A MANNER THAT WILL NOT POSE A SAFETY HAZARD AND IS FREE FROM DEFECTS,. I DO NOT EXPECT FORD TO FAIL TO DISCLOSE THE CVT TRANSMISSION DEFECT TO ME OR OTHER CONSUMERS. MOREOVER, I DO NOT EXPECT FORD AND THE KISTLER DEALERSHIP TO INITIALLY DENY THIS DEFECT, CHARGE ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR IT, THEN MORE THAN DOUBLE THE AMOUNT TO REPAIR AGAIN ONLY 46K MILES LATER. I AM ASKING FOR FORD TO ANSWER FOR THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE GET BACK WITH ME FOR ANY QUESTIONS.
