MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE HAS HAD IDLING PROBLEMS SINCE ABOUT 80,000 MILES. IT CURRENTLY HAS 94,000 AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD ONLY CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY DESPITE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO HAD REPLACED SEVERAL BRAKE PADS/ CALIPERS/ TIRES AS THEY SEEM TO WARE VERY EASILY. I'VE REPLACE MY RIGHT SIDE CALIPER TWICE ALREADY. THE LAST TIME MY CAR STARTED SMOKING ON A HIGHWAY OUT OF NO WHERE AS IT SEIZED UP. ALSO AFTER DRIVING FOR 20-30 MIN MY CAR STARTS MAKING A WHINING NOISE AS SLOWING DOWN AN TURNING. STEERING FLUID HAS BEEN CHECKEDAND IS OK. POSSIBLY THE CVT WHICH I HAVE VERY RECENTLY FOUND OUT I' M FAR FROM THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE APPEARS TO HAVE DEFECTIVE PARTS WHICH ARE CAUSING SAFETY ISSUES AND I WANT IT ADDRESSED . *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AS THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,700.
I PURCHASED A USED FORD FREESTYLE 2007 MODEL IN APRIL AND AFTER HAVING THE CAR THAT I LOVE AND FELT SAFE WITH MY CHILDREN IN, IT BEGAN TO ACT CRAZY!! IT LUNGES WHEN PULLING IN TO PARK OR BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. IT SCARES ME NOW TO PUT MY KIDS IN IT!!! TODAY AFTER IT LUNGED A COUPLE DIFFERENT TIMES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK AT THE STORE I ALMOST HIT A PARKED CAR AND COULDN'T CONTROL THE FREESTYLE!! IT SEEMS TO BE WORSE IF THE AIR IS ON. AFTER ONE OF THE LUNGING FITS TODAY A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THERE WAS NO POWER AT ALL. I PULLED OVER TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT THE LIGHT WENT OUT AND POWER CAME BACK! SOMETHING REALLY NEEDS TO BE DONE!!! *JS
CAR WILL LUNGE IF I'M STARTING TO BRAKE OR PRESSING VERY LIGHTLY APPLYING BRAKES AND SOMETIMES WILL MOVE SEVERAL FEET BEFORE I CAN GET IT TO STOP I HAVE HIT CURBS AND GARAGE DOORS BECAUSE OF IT. *TR
WHEN YOU SLOW DOWN TO STOP, VEHICLE SOMETIMES LUNGED, OR ACCELERATES. WHEN YOU BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, VEHICLE SOMETIMES SUDDENLY LUNGED OR ACCELERATES. *TR
WHEN TRANSMISSION IS PLACED INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE, THE ENGINE WILL SURGE AT IDLE SPEED. IT CREATES A VERY SCARY SITUATION ESPECIALLY IN PARKING LOTS. THE SURGE USUALLY HAPPENS RIGHT AFTER THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT AND THEN CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME, USUALLY AT IDLE SPEED. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AND THEY SAID IT NEED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. I'VE SEEN HUNDREDS OF OTHER POSTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE WITH MODEL YEARS 05-07 FREESTYLES. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR MIDDLE PASSENGER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR LOCKED, WHICH PREVENTED HIM FROM USING IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT HIM AT A LATER DATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,000.
ENGINE REVS WITH NO ACCELERATOR PRESSURE WHEN GOING FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE. IT IS FORTUNATE THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL MUST BE DEPRESSED TO REMOVE THE SHIFTER FROM PARK SO THE SUDDEN MOVEMENT CAN BE SOMEWHAT CONTROLLED IF YOU ARE EXPECTING IT. IF YOU WERE IN NEUTRAL WHICH WOULDN'T REQUIRE YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CONSEQUENCES COULD BE NASTY TO NEARBY VEHICLES OR PEDESTRIANS. MY WIFE IS TRYING TO JUST DRIVE MY WORK TRUCK AS THE FREESTYLE HAS HER VERY CONCERNED FOR HER AND OTHERS' SAFETY. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,126.
ABOUT A WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE IT STARTED LUNGING WHEN PLACED IN GEAR (DRIVE OR REVERSE). IT IS THE SAME AS THE MANY MANY OTHER 05-07 FREESTYLES I HAVE RED ABOUT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. SOME DAY THIS MAY RESULT IN A DEATH. THE FREESTYLE IS A FAMILY CAR, WHICH MEANS THERE ARE CHILDREN AROUND IT. THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WOULD WANT DONE IF THIS CAR ATTACKED YOUR CHILD. LIFE IS WORTH MUCH MORE THAN A RECALL ON A FLAWED CAR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE FAILURE AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. IM NOT SURE IF THESE ARE TWO COMPLETELY SEPARATE ISSUES. STARTING AROUND 2012 THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS RUNNING. NOW THE CVT TRANSMISSION HAS GONE COMPLETELY OUT AN WE ARE UNABLE TO DRIVE IT. *TR
FILED TO GO WITH CAMPAIGN ID PE11018. 2007 FREESTYLE ATTEMPS TO LURCH FORWARD OR BACKWARD WHEN PUT INTO GEAR WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. ALSO, WHEN BEGINNING ACCELERATION, VEHICLE WANTS TO LUCH FORWARD AND/OR SPEED UP MORE QUICKLY THAN USUAL. HAVE HIT A CURB BECAUSE OF VEHICLE LURCHING FORWARD. ALSO HAVE ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY DUE TO UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE. *TT

THE CARS RPMS ARE REVVING ON THERE OWN WHILE CAR IS IDLING OR IS MOVING VERY SLOWLY AS IN WHEN TRYING TO PARK OR BARELY MOVING FORWARD OR BACK. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE CAR JUMPS. I HAVE ALMOST HIT TWO CARS AND SOME KIDS IN A SCHOOL PARKING LOT. THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. *TR
THROTTLE BODY SYSTEM PROBLEM. CAR LUNGING AT LOW SPEEDS AND WHEN THE DRIVER IS NOT PRESSING THE ACCELERATION PEDAL; SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED. MORE APPARENT WHEN THE VEHICLE'S AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM IS ON OR WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED SHARPLY. PAST LOYAL FORD CUSTOMER. THIS WAS A BRAND NEW PURCHASE. PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN AFTER THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WAS REPLACED IN 2008. I HAVE HAD ALL I CAN TAKE; VISITED DEALERSHIP TODAY (3-02-212)! PLEASE FORD CORRECT THIS FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS. *TR
THE VEHICLE LUNGES INTO GEAR - BOTH DRIVE AND REVERSE. RPMS JUMP RAPIDLY AND CAR JUMPS INTO GEAR. I NEED TO PUSH ON BRAKE WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT TO STOP IT FROM MOVING. ALSO JUMPS ERRATICALLY WHEN STOPPED SUCH AS AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. IT IS MUCH WORSE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON. AS THE SITUATION WORSENED, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL DUE TO SURGING. UPON RESTARTING WHEN WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND THEN THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE. THERE IS NO RESPONSE TO THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER WAITING 10 -15 MINUTES IT WILL THEN START AND RUN FINE UNTIL NEXT TIME. I HAD TRANSMISSION TROUBLE AS A RESULT OF THIS. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED BUT THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE TECHNICIAN CLEANED OFF THE THROTTLE BODY HOUSING AND IT SEEMED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM....TEMPORARILY. WITHIN 10,000 MILES THE VEHICLE STARTED STALLING AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO RAN A SCAN AND GOT TRANSMISSION CODES. BACK TO TRANSMISSION SHOP. NOW THEY SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION WITH A USED ONE WITH 30,000 MILES. RAN FINE FOR 15 MINUTES AND WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN AND THE CAR WON'T MOVE. UPON RESEARCHING I HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON BOTH THE TRANSMISSION AND THROTTLE BODY AND HOUSING. I UNDERSTAND YOU ARE INVESTIGATING THIS AND WOULD LIKE MY COMPLAINT ADDED TO YOUR LIST! *TR
WHILE APPROACHING A RED STOP LIGHT UNDER LIGHT BRAKING FROM 35 MPH, I LESSENED THE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO REDUCE THE RATE OF DECELERATION. AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE ENGINE RPM SURGED UP AND THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AT ALL TIMES AND I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY BRING THE VEHICLE TO A FULL STOP WITHOUT ENTERING THE INTERSECTION. AT NO TIME DURING THE INCIDENT WAS ANY PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR AS MY RIGHT FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WERE COLD (EXTERNAL TEMP @ 34 DEGREES F) AND I HAD TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY .5 MILES AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE WITH ABOUT A 30 SECOND WARM UP PERIOD. *TR
I WAS TAKING MY TWO CHILDREN TO SCHOOL TURNED TO CROSS OVER RAILROAD TRACKS AND CAR STALLED ON THE TRACKS. I TRIED TO RESTART & EVERYTIME I TOOK MY FOOT OF THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR STALLED. FINALLY I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO MOVE WITH MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR & BRAKE. THE CAR CONTINUED TO STALL WHEN MY CAR CAME CLOSE TO A STOP. I HAD MY CAR CHECKED LAST YEAR FOR LUNGING & FORD COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING, & IT CONTINUES TO LUNGE NOW IT IS STALLING. I WAS JUST LUCKY THERE WAS NOT A TRAIN COMING OR MY KIDS & I COULD HAVE BEEN HURT. *TR
I BOUGHT MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE AWD IN JUNE 2011 WITH APPROXIMATELY 72,000 MILES ON IT. IT STARTED HAVING A WHINING NOISE - ALMOST LIKE A PUMP - AFTER THE 75000 MILE MARK PASSED. I WAS NOT ABLE TO PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE AFTER 75K MILES. I ADDRESSED THE NOISE COMPLAINT WITH A MECHANIC AND AFTER REPLACING THE POWER STEERING PUMP, THE NOISE DID NOT SUBSIDE. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY FOR NO REASON; BUT THEN GO OFF ONCE THE CAR WAS RESTARTED. THE NOISE INCREASED SLIGHTLY, AND 2 DAYS AFTER THE INCREASE IN NOISE, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED SUDDENLY. I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES PER HOUR ON THE ROAD, AND THE WRENCH LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS BOTH WENT ON AND THE RPM'S WENT THROUGH THE ROOF WHILE ACCELERATION SLOWED. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE I HAD ENOUGH SPEED GOING FROM SECONDS BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. NO OTHER GEARS WORKED. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE GARAGE, I WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION WAS COMPLETELY WRECKED; AND THIS PROBLEM IS ONE THAT THE TRANSMISSION TECHNICIAN HAS SEEN OFTEN FROM FORD FREESTYLE'S. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO ASSISTANCE THAT THEY COULD OFFER ME. ONLINE AUTOMOTIVE FORUMS ARE PACKED WITH COMPLAINTS FROM CUSTOMERS WHO HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES TO MINE - TRANSMISSIONS FAILING LONG BEFORE THEY SHOULD; AND OFTEN IN A TIMEFRAME WHEN NO EXTENDED WARRANTY IS AVAILABLE. NOW, I CANNOT REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A USED ONE BECAUSE IT IS LIKELY IT WILL FAIL AGAIN; AND MY ONLY LOGICAL PURCHASE IS TO GET A FORD REMANUFACTURED ONE FOR $4000+ BECAUSE IT IS THE ONLY ONE WITH A 3 YEAR WARRANTY. LOSING A TRANSMISSION IS DANGEROUS - HAD I BEEN GOING UPHILL SLOWLY; BEEN DRIVING IN BAD WEATHER; OR IN ANY OTHER LIKELY SITUATION, IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED, MY FORD FREESTYLE WILL LUNGE FORWARD EVEN WHILE BRAKING. I HAVE JUMPED CURBS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AND FEEL THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BEFORE IT CAUSES SOMEONE SERIOUS INJURY. *TR
MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE HAS BEEN SURGING OVER THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. AT FIRST IT WAS VERY INTERMITTENT. NOW IT IS ALMOST EVERY TIME I USE THE CAR. I TOOK IT INTO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT FORD IS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. SO FAR THERE AS NOT BEEN A RECALL. HE SAID HE CAN'T FIX IT BECAUSE HE CANNOT GET THE PARTS. MY CAR WITH LUNGE FORWARD WHEN I TURN IT ON. IT ALSO WILL SURGE WHEN I GO INTO REVERSE. TODAY WHEN I WAS DROPPING MY YOUNGEST SON AT SCHOOL IT LUNGED FORWARD IN THE AREA WHERE CHILDREN AROUND. I HAD A DIFFICULT TIME CONTROLLING THE CAR. IT NOW IS BECOMING A BIGGER SAFETY ISSUE. WHY IS FORD NOT RECALLING THIS CAR? IT IS NOT SAFE! WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET THIS TAKEN CARE OF? THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST, WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT REPLACED. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED SEVERAL TIMES. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE WAS CORRECTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH AND MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE STARTED HESITATED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
MY CAR IS CUTTING OFF WHEN I DRIVE IT. IT ALSO RACES WHEN I SHIFT THE GEARS. AND WHEN I TURN THE AC AND SHIFT THE GEARS THE CAR ACCELERATES. MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN SINCE MAY 2012. I'VE HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY A CAR DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP AND THEY COULDN'T FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. *TR
A YEAR AGO I WAS EXPERIENCING THE LATEST RECALL ON THE THROTTLE BODY FOR FREESTYLES, TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. A YEAR LATER AFTER MANY REPEATED LUNGING OCCASIONS MY TRANSMISSION HAS NOW MADE MY CAR UNDRIVABLE. I WANT TO BRING TO ATTENTION THAT O BELIEVE AS WELL AS SOME OF MY LOCAL MECHANICS BELIEVE THIS THROTTLE BODY ISSUE TO BE A DIRECT CONNECTION TO THE MANY TRANSMISSION CASES THAT HAVE BEEN BROUGHT TO YOUR ATTENTION. I UNFORTUNATELY AM A VICTIM OF THIS. I BELIEVE FORD COMPANY SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR BOTH THESE FIXES THEY ARE PRODUCT OF FAULTY EQUIPMENT THAT THEY PUT OUT FOR CONSUMERS TO EXPERIENCE. I HAVE SEEN IN SOME CASES AS WELL AS LIVED A CASE WHERE WHILE DRIVING THESE ISSUES WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND TRANSMISSION HAVE EITHER CASES ACCIDENTS OR NEARLY CAUSED. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS AT THE STORE WITH MY CHILDREN. WE WERE LEAVING THE STORE AS I PUT THE FREESTYLE IN REVERSE, THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD "DROPPING" NOISE AND WOULD NOT REVERSE. I PUT THE CAR BACK INTO PARK AND LOOKED AROUND THE OUTSIDE TO CHECK FOR ANYTHING VISIBLE THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE NOISE OR LACK OF MOVEMENT. I NOTICED THE CAR IDLING AT A HIGH RPM. I GOT BACK IN THE CAR TO TRY AGAIN WITH NO LUCK. THIS IS WHEN THE CAR SURGED FORWARD. I THEN BECAME SCARED AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON EVERYTHING WAS "NORMAL" AGAIN. I DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEMS AND TOLD ME TO CONTINUING DRIVING IT AGAIN UNTIL I GOT A LIGHT ON MY DASH TO PROVE TO THEM I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS. THEY SERVICED MY TRANSMISSION AT THAT TIME AS WELL TO FIND NO ISSUES. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS WAS NOT COVERED WITH THE WARRANTY SO I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT, I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE 5 MORE TIMES, MOSTLY WHILE IN PARKING LOTS WHILE IDLE. HOWEVER THE LAST INCIDENT WAS 1/10/12. THIS SURGE PUT MY VEHICLE IN THE INTERSECTION. I TOOK THE CAR AGAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS INCIDENT HAD THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE SOUNDING LIKE IT WAS DROPPING WHEN SWITCHING INTO DIFFERENT GEARS AND IDLING HIGH. THE CAR WOULD NOT SWITCH OUT OF 2ND GEAR WHILE THE TECH TEST DROVE IT WITH ME. THERE WAS A NEW ISSUE THAT APPEARED WITH THIS INCIDENT. IT IS A GRINDING NOISE WHEN THE GAS WAS APPLIED. THE GRIND IS SIMILAR TO THE SOUND THE BRAKE WOULD MAKE WHEN THE ANTI-LOCK WERE TO KICK IN, EXCEPT THE BRAKES ARE NOT BEING APPLIED. THIS HAS CAUSED THE ANTI-SKID LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT TO KICK ON. I HAVE MAINTAINED MY CAR RELIGIOUSLY SINCE I PURCHASED IT SO I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS IS A MAINTENANCE ISSUE. FORD HAS BEEN UNABLE TO SOLVE THESE ISSUES, CHARGE CUSTOMERS FOR UNNECESSARY REPAIRS, AND ALLOW THE VEHICLES TO BE DRIVEN. *TR
THERE IS AN ISSUE WHEN GOING VERY SLOW OR STOPPED WHERE THE CAR 'LUNGES' FORWARD (OR BACKWARDS IN REVERSE) WHILE THE GAS PEDAL IS NOT BEING PRESSED. IT HAPPENS WORST WHEN A/C IS ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED. IT HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, AND NOW I CAN DUPLICATE IT TO WHERE I HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT STILL MOVES ABOUT 6 INCHES FORWARD WITH NO WAY TO STOP IT. THE VEHICLE REVS DURING THIS TIME AND SOMETIMES DIES RIGHT AFTER DOING IT AS WELL. IT SEEMS TO BE SOMETHING WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND IS A DEFECT WITH THE CAR. I HAVE FOUND OTHER USED FREESTYLES AT VARIOUS DEALERSHIPS AND WAS ABLE TO GET 2 OF THEM TO DO THIS SAME THING. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
MULTIPLE TIMES WAITING ON TRAFFIC AT STOP LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS OR JUST WAITING TO TURN. MY FORD FREESTYLE WILL LURCH FORWARD NEARLY STRIKING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME OR PROPELLING ME INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND ONCE NEARLY STRIKING MY WIFE WHILE SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO GET INTO THE VEHICLE. THE FREESTYLE WILL ALSO STALL IN TRAFFIC WHILE CROSSING INTERSECTIONS OR SIMPLE PULLING AWAY FROM STOPS. *TR

THREE OUT OF FOUR TIRE VALVES CRACKED AND LEAKED AIR DURING LONG HIGHWAY TRIPS. THERE WAS NO SUDDEN FAILURE AND NO ACCIDENTS OCCURRED. THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED BY REPLACING THE TIRE VALVE AND REINFLATING THE TIRE. *TR
CAR WOULD LUNGE AT ANY SPEED, HAD TO IMMEDIATELY PRESS ON BRAKE TO KEEP FROM HITTING OTHER CARS OR JUMPING FORWARD/BACKWARD FROM PARKING SPACE. I TOOK IT TO DEALER, THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND FIXED THE MOTOR MOUNT (OVER $500). IN ADDITION, ROTORS HAD TO BE RESURFACED AT 30K MILES AND I NEED TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AT 77K MILES. *TR
MY WIFE WAS RUNNING HER ROUTES, MAKING STOPS FOR GROCERIES, PET FOOD, ETC. IT WAS A SUNNY AND WARM DAY. AS SHE CAME HOME, DURING THE LAST MILE, SHE NOTICED CAR BEHAVING ERRATICALLY (VEHICLE'S SPEED SEEMED TO SLOW DOWN, THEN SPEED UP, SLOW DOWN, WHATEVER IT WANTED). SHE KNEW IMMEDIATELY SOMETHING WAS WRONG BECAUSE IT HAS NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE. WE HAVE OWNED IT FOR 2+ YEARS AND SHE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER. SHE PULLED INTO OUR DRIVEWAY. THE GARAGE IS 90DEG TO THE DRIVEWAY AND REQUIRES DRIVING BEYOND THE GARAGE DOOR ENTRY, THEN A SHORT BACKING UP AND TURN OF THE WHEEL TO ALIGN IT FOR PULLING IN. WHEN SHE CAME TO A STOP, THEN PUT INTO REVERSE, THE CAR BEGAN TO REALLY ACT UP, LUNGING, HESITATING,,. SHE WAS ABLE TO MANAGE REVERSING THE VEHICLE WITH RUNNING INTO OUR BARN OR INTO THE YARD AND GOT IT INTO THE GARAGE. SHE IMMEDIATELY CALLED ME SEVERAL TIMES AT WORK AND LEFT ME MESSAGES ON VARIOUS PHONE NUMBERS. I THINK IT SHOOK HER UP PRETTY BADLY. WE HAVE 3 YOUNG CHILDREN AND WE DO NOT WANT TO SEE THEM OR ANYONE HURT. WE DID OUR HOMEWORK BEFORE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE AND DECIDED NOT TO GET THE AWD MODEL BECAUSE THE REPAIR RATES WERE SLIGHTLY HIGHER. LAST NIGHT I IMMEDIATELY SUSPECTED THIS TO BE THE CULPRIT THOUGH. BEFORE DOING ANY DIAGNOSTICS, I THOUGHT TO CHECK A FEW WEBSITES AND PHONE A FRIEND. THERE ARE OBVIOUS DESIGN FEATURES THAT DIMINISH THE RELIABILITY AND QUALITY OF THIS VEHICLE AS RELATED TO THE MOST BASIC FEATURE WE EXPECT A CAR TO DO - STOP WHEN WE WANT IT TO, GO WHEN WE WANT IT TO. AND WHEN THESE TYPES OF ISSUES SURFACE SO EARLY IN A PRODUCT'S LIFE, WHY IS THE NHTSA ALLOWING THEM TO PERSIST. I WAS ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING FREEWAY SPEED IN THE MIDDLE LANE WHEN THE ENGINE STOPPED, I HAD NO POWER. I WAS VERY LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO GET TO THE FREEWAY SHOULDER WITHOUT AN INCIDENT. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE ENGINE STARTED AND BACK AT FREEWAY SPEED. A FEW MILES LATER, THE SAME HAPPENED. THIS CONTINUED FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES. START,STOP,START STOP ETC. COST TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP...$1000. NOV. 22, 2012 (TWO MONTHS LATER) @ 48200 MILES, AGAIN ON THE FREEWAY, THE SAME HAPPENED. ONE HUNDRED MILES AND FOUR HOURS LATER I GOT TO THE REPAIR SHOP. ANOTHER FUEL PUMP, THIS TIME IT WAS WARRANTY BY PLANET FORD HERE IN SPRING, TEXAS. NOV. 2, 2012 AT MILEAGE 56023 ANOTHER FUEL PUMP FAILURE. FORD SAID ONLY THE FIRST PUMP FELL UNDER THEIR WARRANTY POLICY. I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC AT FORD, I SHOULD TRY NOT TO LET THE FUEL TANK GET LESS THAN HALF FULL, THE FUEL IN THE TANK KEEPS THE PUMP COOL. ANOTHER MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE THE DRIVE SHAFT GOES THRU THE TANK, THE TANK IS "SPLIT" AND CAN CAUSE THE PUMP TO OVERHEAT. CAN YOU HELP? THANKS. *TR
ON AS MANY AS 8 OCCASIONS, MY FORD FREESTYLE HAS LUNGED WITHOUT TOUCHING ACCELERATOR AT ALL. THIS HAPPENED TO BOTH MY WIFE AND MYSELF. WHILE IDLING IN A FAST FOOD LINE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 2 FEET. AFTER APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 10 MINUTES IDLING IN THE LINE, I GOT MY ORDER AND WAS SLOWLY EXITING THE DRIVE THRU LANE, WHEN I HAD TO STOP TO LET 3 PEDESTRIANS PASS BY. WITH MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE, IT LUNGED FORWARD ANOTHER TIME APPROXIMATELY 3 FEET, NARROWLY MISSING THE LAST PEDESTRIAN. THE CAR THEN STALLED. AFTER RESTARTING IT, IT TOOK OVER 1 MILE OF ROADWAY TO GET THE SPEED UP FROM 0 TO 65, WITH THE GAS PEDAL COMPLETELY DEPRESSED THE ENTIRE TIME. THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD ALSO NOT WORK. THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS ON AND THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100 DEGREES. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WHEN THE LUNGING OCCURRED, HOWEVER, THE WRENCH ICON LIT UP AFTER I RESTARTED THE CAR AND REMAINED ON FOR THE 26 MILE DRIVE HOME. ONCE AT HOME, I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND THE WRENCH ICON WAS NO LONGER LIT UP. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE VEHICLE SINCE THIS INCIDENT FOR FEAR OF INJURING MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. *TR

THE CAR WOULD LURCH FORWARD WHEN AT SLOW SPEED OR IDLING. WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AT SLOW SPEED SUCH AS ENTERING A PARKING LOT, GARAGE OR TURNING. HAPPENED CONTINUOUSLY FOR MONTHS UNTIL WE WERE TOO CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY OR DAMAGE TO THE CAR OR OTHERS. HAD TO KEEP FOOT PRESSED VERY HARD TO BRAKE TO AVOID HAVING THE CAR SHOOT FORWARD. WE KNEW MANY OTHER FREESTYLE OWNERS HAD BEEN HAVING THIS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND HOPED FOR A RECALL BUT WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON WE COULD AVOID IT NO LONGER AND HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. WE HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR JUST OVER A YEAR. FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW, WE HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR SURGING/LUNGING. IT HAPPENS WITHOUT ANY NOTICE, AND YOU HAVE TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO STOP IT. INITIALLY, I ONLY NOTICED THE PROBLEM WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD. IN THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS IT HAS STARTED LUNGING BACKWARD AND FORWARD, REGARDLESS OF HOW FAST I WAS GOING (PULLING IN, BACKING UP, OR DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT A STEADY SPEED.) ONCE, THE CAR LUNGED AS I WAS BACKING UP AND HIT ANOTHER CAR. MINOR DAMAGE. NOT REPORTED. IT IS STARTING TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN, AND THE CAR HAS ALSO BEGUN DYING IF IT HAPPENS WHOLE BACKING UP. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT SOLVES THAT. I'VE HAD TO START PARKING FURTHER BACK IN SPOTS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS HAS INDIRECTLY CAUSED COSMETIC DAMAGE (COMING OUT OF A STORE TWICE I'VE NOTICED SCRAPES THAT LOOK LIKE SOMEONE BACKED INTO ME.) ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, MY CAR HAS SURGED FORWARD WHEN I WAS MOVING AT VERY LOW SPEEDS WHEN MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. THIS SEEMS TO BE WORSE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS RUNNING. ON THESE OCCASIONS, THE ENGINE SOMETIMES STALLED AND TWICE THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND TURNED ON AGAIN, THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE CAR STARTED BUT IT SEEMED TO RUN A LITTLE ROUGH. THESE INCIDENTS SEEM TO HAPPEN MONTHS APART, BUT I HAVE LEARNED TO TURN OFF THE A/C WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS CONDITION IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN I AM CRAWLING THROUGH THE LINE TO PICK UP MY GRANDCHILDREN AT SCHOOL. ON THE LAST OCCASION BOTH THE WRENCH AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. THEY DIAGNOSED A COMPUTER WIRE PROBLEM (I THINK THE COMPUTER ANALYSIS NUMBER IS 19773) AND A BROKEN "ANTI-ROLL" MOUNT. THE COST WILL BE $739.57 EVEN THOUGH IT IS STILL UNDER ORIGINAL WARRANTY TILL OCTOBER. FROM THE COMMENTS I HAVE BEEN READING ON THE INTERNET, THIS WILL STILL NOT FIX THE SURGING PROBLEM WHICH I HAD NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE UNTIL A FRIEND TOLD ME.
