TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: 19S01 (AIR BAGS). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. KOONS FORD OF BALTIMORE (6970 SECURITY BLVD, WOODLAWN, MD 21244, (410) 298-3800) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
WHEN PUSHING MY BRAKES, THE PEDAL WILL BE ALL THE WAY TO THE GROUND AND THE CAR WILL NOT STOP. IT WILL GRADUALLY SLOW DOWN AND ALMOST FEELS SPONGE LIKE. AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN TOWN THEY TOLD ME THAT SEVERAL FORD FUSIONS WERE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND THE PART ITSELF TO FIX IT WAS $1300. AS WELL AS SEVERAL HOURS OF LABOR. THE TOTAL BILL WOULD BE $3000. THEY REFUSED TO DRIVE THE CAR AND CONDEMNED IT UNDRIVEABLE STATING THE BRAKES COULD GO OUT AT ANY MOMENT. WE HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED BACK TO MY HOUSE.
DASHBOARD IS BULGING AS WELL AS PASSENGER DOOR. I AM ASSUMING IT'S BECAUSE OF HE ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE AIRBAGS WILL DEPLOY AND CAUSE INJURY IT DEATH TO MY FAMILY. I HAVE READ IN THE FORUMS THAT FORD IS NOT COVERING THE BULGING DASHBOARDS IF OUT OF WARRANTY. OBVIOUSLY HE ISSUE WITH THE FAULTY AIRBAGS IS CAUSING DASHBOARDS TO BULGE. THEY ARE BULGING FOR A REASON AND MANY PEOPLE ARE WORRIED FOR THEIR SAFETY. THIS IS AN URGENT ISSUE BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS HOW LONG THE DASHBOARDS WILL HOLD IN THESE FAULTY BAGS. ALSO WE HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM FORD ABOUT THE TAK AT AIRBAGS AND ANY RECALL OR REMEDY SITUATION.
TAKATA RECALL. I WAS FIRST NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL ALMOST ONE YEAR AGO. UPON CALLING THEM AND CALLING THE DEALER, I AM TOLD PARTS STILL NOT AVAILABLE! AND NO ONE KNOWS WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. THIS COMPLAINT IS REGARDING THIS RECALL - THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING TIMELY ABOUT GETTING THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED.
TAKATA RECALL. WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG TO FIX MY CAR?
"TAKING RECALL" I HAVE A FORD FUSION EFFECTED IN THIS RECALL I'M BEING FORCED TO STOP WORKING IN TRANSPORTATION BECAUSE I CAN'T PASS TRANSPORTATION SAFETY INSPECTION FOR COMMERCIAL USE. I DON'T HAVE THE MEANS TO BUY ANOTHER CAR AND NO ONE WILL HELP ME BECAUSE THE PARTS DON'T EXIST YET. BY LAW IF THEY CAN NOT FIX IT SHOULDN'T THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE. SO NOW I CAN'T PROVIDE FOR MY FAMILY !
ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS MY BRAKES HAVE FAILED - TWICE I WAS TURNING A CORNER TO THE RIGHT - APPLIED MY BRAKES - PAVEMENT WAS ROUGH - I HEARD A THUD LIKE NOISE AND THE BRAKES WERE ALL BUT GONE - BRAKE PEDAL WENT CLEAR TO THE FLOOR. THE THIRD TIME I WAS DRIVING ON SNOW PACKED/ ICY ROAD AND THE LIGHT TURNED RED - IT WAS A VERY SLIGHT DOWNHILL SECTION -.I DIDN'T HAVE ANY BRAKES - I TRIED PUMPING, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT CLEAR TO THE FLOOR AND THEN I HAD TO JUST PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD - FINALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE INTERSECTION - IF A CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN IN FRONT OF ME I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP. I WAS DRIVING AT A SAFE SPEED FOR THE ROAD CONDITIONS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC TWICE NOW AND WHAT HE'S DOING IS NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM. *TR
THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR WITH MY 2009 FORD FUSION THAT CURRENTLY HAS 74,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE DRIVING OVER A SMALL POTHOLE OR SLIGHTLY DAMP ROAD SURFACE, THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGES. THE BRAKE PEDAL FEELS AS THOUGH IT IS GRINDING AND PUSHING BACK ON MY FOOT, AND THE CAR DOES NOT STOP. I PRESS THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I CAN TO TRY TO STOP THE CAR. THE BRAKE PEDAL CONTINUES TO FEEL AS THOUGH IT IS GRINDING AND THEN DROPS TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR EVENTUALLY COMES TO A STOP. I HAVE NEARLY BEEN IN SEVERAL ACCIDENTS, DUE TO THE CAR'S INABILITY TO STOP IMMEDIATELY. CURRENTLY, I HAVE TO DRIVE SEVERAL FEET BEHIND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, EVEN ON FLAT, DRY ROAD SURFACES. NOW WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES ENGAGE, BUT THEN DISENGAGE, UNTIL THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. ONCE THE BRAKE PEDAL IS ON THE FLOOR, THE CAR SLOWLY COMES TO A STOP. THE CAR WILL NOT STOP IMMEDIATELY. IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE CAR, BECAUSE OF THIS. I MUST KNOW WELL AHEAD OF TIME WHEN I HAVE TO STOP THE CAR. *TR
AFTER THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ARE ENABLED THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE BRAKES ARE ACTIVATED. THIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO GO PAST SEVERAL IMPORTANT STOPPING POINTS INCLUDING STREET LIGHTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL ON WET ROADS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND NON-RESPONSIVE, CAUSING ME TO BE UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN TIME TO AVOID THE CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO STOP UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES BUT I PUSHED THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND IT DIDN'T REACT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES EVEN AFTER TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE HCU NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 141,000.
BRAKE PEDAL FEELS SPONGY AFTER HARD BRAKING OR DURING WET DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO MY SERVICING FORD DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY STATE THAT THE BRAKES ARE PERFORMING TO SPEC. *TR
2 TIMES IN PAST TWO MONTHS, WHILE DRIVING IN RAIN MY CAR LOST BRAKE PRESSURE. ONCE ON A LOCAL STREET AND ONCE ON A HIGHWAY EXIT RAMP. BOTH TIMES DRIVING STRAIGHT BUT TRYING TO MAKE A QUICK STOP. IN BOTH TIMES THIS HAPPENED WHILE BRAKING ON A METAL SURFACE (MANHOLE COVER). I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER FOR THE CAR TO STOP. THIS LOSS OF PRESSURE LASTED FOR HOURS/OVERNIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO STOP BUT THE STOPPING PROCESS TOOK A LOT LONGER. I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO THE SHOP TODAY 12/27/16 AND THE SHOP FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I THEN SAW AN ARTICLE, TODAY, REGARDING THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION INTO THE LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE IN FORD FUSIONS. I AM REPORTING THIS SO THAT IT IS KNOWN MY FORD FUSION HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
AFTER MY ABS BRAKES ENGAGED ON SOME HARD PACKED SNOW ON MY NEIGHBORHOOD STREET I HAD TO DEPRESS MY BRAKE PEDAL VERY CLOSE TO THE FLOOR TO STOP. THIS SQUISHY BRAKE CONDITION GRADUALLY IMPROVED AFTERWARDS AND WAS BACK TO, OR NEAR, NORMAL AFTER SEVERAL CONTROLLED TEST BRAKINGS OVER ABOUT 15 MINUTES. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS, BUT THEN I HAVEN'T HAD ANY MORE ABS EVENTS. I DIDN'T KNOW IF YOU WANTED "ME TOO" COMPLAINTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ISSUE STARTED AFTER SLIDING ON ICE AND THE ABS WERE ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS BRAKE VALVES WERE OPENED AND NO PRESSURE WAS BEING APPLIED TO THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,600.
ON A SLIPPERY ROAD, APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE ABS CAME ON. AFTER THAT THE BRAKES FELT SPONGY. MECHANIC SAID THE BRAKE FLUID LOOKS CONTAMINATED WITH METAL FLECKS IN BRAKE FLUID.
WHILE RECENTLY DRIVING ON SNOW, THE BRAKES SEEMED TO ALMOST MALFUNCTION AFTER ABS WAS ACTIVATED. I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR TO BRAKE WHICH DELAYED MY ABILITY TO BRAKE ALMOST CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO NOT STOP IN TIME. THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED IN SLICK CONDITIONS THAT WOULD ACTIVATE THE ABS SYSTEM. PUMPING THE BRAKES WOULD HELP TO BRING THE BRAKE PRESSURE BACK BUT WOULD ALMOST INSTANTLY GO OUT AGAIN THE NEXT TIME I HAD TO BRAKE. THIS SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASES MY ABILITY TO DRIVE SAFELY. *TR
THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM GOES SOFT AND THE BRAKES GO TO THE FLOOR IN SNOWY OR RAINY CONDITIONS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ON TWO SNOWY DAYS IN MASSACHUSETTS ON DECEMBER 17TH AND 18TH, 2016. THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP WHEN I BRAKED IN MOTION FOR A 2 WAY STOP SIGN. THE BRAKES MADE LARGE NOISES AND FELT VERY SOFT AND THE CAR WOULD NOT COMPLETELY STOP. FORTUNATELY I WAS ONLY GOING 15 MILES PH AND NO OTHER CARS WERE APPROACHING. HOWEVER, IF A CAR WAS PROCEEDING I WOULD HAVE CRASHED INTO THE CAR.I UNDERSTAND THAT THE 2009 FORD FUSION IS UNDER INVESTIGATION THAT THE BRAKES MAY FAIL IN CERTAIN WEATHER CONDITIONS. THIS IS TRUE AS I HAVE EXPERIENCED IT. WHAT DO WE DO WHILE WAITING FOR THIS INVESTIGATION? IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. IS FORD RESPONSIBLE IN BETWEEN THIS INVESTIGATION TO FIX THE PROBLEM? CAN I BRING MY CAR TO THE FORD CENTER TO HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED ON THEIR DIME?
WHEN DRIVING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR ROUGH SURFACE OR SOMETHING THAT WOULD CAUSE THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM TO ACTIVATE, THE BRAKES WOULD GO SOFT AND NEED TO BE PRESSED VERY HARD IN ORDER TO MAKE THE CAR STOP. THIS INCREASES THE TIME IT TAKES FOR THE CAR TO BRAKE MAKING IT HARD TO STOP ESPECIALLY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. IT HAS HAPPENED ON 3 OCCASIONS ALREADY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN SLUSH AND SNOWY ASPHALT ROADS, I WAS TURNING THE CORNER ON CITY ROADS AT A STOPLIGHT AND I STARTED TO SLIDE SO I PRESSED MY BRAKES AND MY PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I COULD PUMP MY BRAKES AND I WOULD SLOWLY SLOW DOWN BUT IN ORDER TO STOP I HAD TO PRESS THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR HARD. I DID TAKE MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE ON 12/20/16 AT A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT FOR $1274. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM STALLED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN IN THE SNOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS HYDRAULIC UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. AS STATED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE16017, MY CAR IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE OF THE BRAKES GOING TO THE FLOOR AND NOT BEING ABLE TO BUILD BRAKE PRESSURE. I HAVE FIXED/REPLACED EVERY BRAKE COMPONENT (CALIPERS, BRAKE BOOSTER, MASTER CYLINDER) BUT HAVE NOT REPLACED THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. ALL RESEARCH LEADS TO THIS BEING THE ISSUE OF THE VALVES STICKING OPEN AND CAUSING NOT BRAKE FLUID PRESSURE TO BUILD.
AS I WAS BRAKING TO TURN INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT WORK THIS PAST WINTER , THE ROAD WAS SNOW COVERED AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED. SINCE THAT TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF TRAVEL BEFORE BRAKES ENGAGE. I HAVE SINCE CHANGED OUT PADS , ROTORS AND FLUSHED THE BRAKES AND CANNOT GET RID OF THE SOFT BRAKE PEDAL. I DID SOME SEARCHING ONLINE THIS PAST WEEKEND AND FOUND OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. FORD NEEDS TO CORRECT THIS BRAKE ISSUE.
WHEN ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM IS NEEDED, SUCH AS ON A SLIPPERY ROAD, THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN A LACK OF STOPPING POWER, RESULTING IN A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. WHEN ROADS ARE NOT SLIPPERY, BRAKES WORK NORMALLY.
I OWNED THIS CAR FOR ABOUT 18 MONTHS. DURING THIS TIME I NOTICED WHEN USING THE BRAKES IF THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGED THE PEDAL WOULD BECOME SOFT AND YOU HAD TO PUSH IT HARD AND TO THE FLOOR TO GET THE CAR STOPPED. I HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS AND ONE WRECK THAT DID MINIMAL DAMAGE. MY SON ALSO DRIVE THE CAR FROM TIME TO TIME AND COMPLAINED OF HE SAME PROBLEM. ON THE MORNING OF DECEMBER 10,2016 HE WAS ON HIS WAY TO TAKE HIS ACT TEST AND IT'S WAS IN THE LOW 20S. HE TOPPED A BLIND HILL AND THERE WAS A WRECK JUST OVER THE HILL. HE HAD TO BRAKE HARD BUT THE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED AND HE RAN INTO THE WRECKED VEHICLES. HE HIT SO HARD THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND RADIATOR BUSTED. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. HE IS OK THANK GOD BUT NOW I AM LEFT PAYING THE CAR I LOST OFF PLUS HAVING TO PAY FOR ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE THE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED. FORD HAS PUT ME IN A BAD FINANCIAL SITUATION AND NEEDS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE! I LOVED MY FUSION UNTIL I FOUND OUT THAT FORD IS TO BLAME FOR THESE PROBLEMS. I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER ONE. NICE CAR UNTIL SOMEONE GETS HURT OR EVEN WORSE, KILLED BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED. *TR
THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR WITH MY 2009 FORD FUSION. WHEN GOING OVER RAILROAD TRACKS, HITTING BLACK ICE AND WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE DRIVING OVER A SMALL POTHOLE. IT HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE 3 TIMES, AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT HAPPEN A FEW WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE IT UNTIL HE COULD LOOK AT IT WHICH HAPPEN TO BE AFTER CHRISTMAS. ON THIS OCCURRENCE, I HIT A SMALL PATCH OF BLACK ICE AND A SMALL POTHOLE WHILE COMING TO A STOP LIGHT, THE ABS ENGAGED AND THE BRAKES DROPPED TO THE FLOOR AND REMAINED SOFT. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A REAL SAFETY ISSUE, PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL! ON AN ICY FRIDAY NIGHT MY CAR'S BRAKES LOCKED UP IN THE "SOFT STATE" FOR SEVERAL DAYS AFTER THE INITIAL TRYING TO BRAKE ON THE ICY STREET. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. I THINK THEY MUST HAVE HIT THE BRAKES SO HARD THAT IT PUT THEM BACK INTO PLACE. I FOUND THIS ARTICLE A WEEK LATER IN OUR NEWSPAPER. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS THE U.S. GOVERNMENT IS INVESTIGATING SOME FORD FUSION AND MERCURY MILAN CARS BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL MAY LOSE PRESSURE, MAKING IT HARD FOR DRIVERS TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THREE CRASHES WERE BLAMED ON THE BRAKING ISSUE, THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION SAID TUESDAY. THE BRAKE PEDAL CAN GO "SOFT" WHEN DRIVING ON SLIPPERY OR UNEVEN SURFACES. NHTSA RECEIVED 141 COMPLAINTS, WITH SOME REPORTING THAT THEIR CAR STOPPED PAST RED LIGHTS, LEAVING THEM IN THE MIDDLE OF FLOWING TRAFFIC. THE INVESTIGATION COVERS FORD FUSION AND MERCURY MILAN CARS WITH MODEL YEARS 2007 TO 2009. NHTSA ESTIMATED THAT THERE ARE ABOUT 475,000 OF THOSE VEHICLES. MY 2009 FORD FUSION HAS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT, MY BRAKES ARE VERY SOFT DO NO STOP AS THEY SHOULD. THIS HAS CAUSED DANGER TO MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS. WHILE PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL IT KEEPS MOVING TOWARD THE FLOOR AND THERE'S NO STOPPING POWER. IT FEELS LIKE YOU'RE NOT GOING TO STOP AT ALL. MY HUSBAND REFUSES TO LET ME DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE. I'VE CALLED TWO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIPS AND THEY TELL ME THAT THE PART IS "PART NUMBER SENSITIVE" AND IS OBSOLETE. I'M LEFT WITH A CAR WITH NO BRAKES AND NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO REPAIR IT. BRAKES HAVE GONE SOFT AFTER BRAKING HARD WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN WET CONDITIONS ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. CANNOT GET FORD TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT SPEED, ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, THE BRAKE PEDAL ON MY '09 FORD FUSION FIRST BEGAN TO GRAB THEN TRAVELED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR RESULTING IN NO BRAKES. THE FIRST TIME WAS JUST AFTER HITTING A POT HOLE AND THE SECOND WAS ON WET PAYMENT. THE FIRST RESULTED IN SLIDING INTO AN INTERSECTION AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY AND BEING ABLE TO STOP. THE SECOND REQUIRED ME TO SWERVE ONTO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID REAR-ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE CAR WAS THEN INSPECTED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP WHICH SAID THE BRAKE FLUID WAS A BIT LOW BUT NO OTHER PROBLEMS WERE FOUND. THE PADS ARE GOOD, NO LEAKS HAVE BEEN DETECTED AND YET THE LOW FLUID CAN'T BE EXPLAINED, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS INSPECTED TWO MONTHS EARLIER. BOTH FAILURES OCCURRED DURING HARD BRAKING AND ONE OTHER ISSUE SUCH AS A POT HOLE OR WET PAVEMENT. NO ALERT INDICATORS LIGHTS ON THE DASH HAVE EVER COME ON. THE DEALER REPORTED NO ERROR CODES BEING AVAILABLE FROM THE COMPUTER. THE ISSUE HAS NOT OCCURRED IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS SINCE THE LAST DEALER "REPAIR".
LATE SPRING 2016 I WAS DRIVING ON A 35MPH PAVED RESIDENTIAL STREET. I HIT A SQUIRREL GOING 20MPH WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE NEXT TIME I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT TO THE FLOOR RESULTING IN AN EXTENDED SLOWING AND STOPPING DISTANCE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO TIRES PLUS IN LIMA, OHIO. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO ISSUE AND MY BRAKE PEDAL HAD BEGUN WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN. EARLY FALL 2016 I WAS DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY AND TURNED RIGHT ONTO A INTERSECTING ROAD. AS I TURNED (WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL) I HIT A POT HOLE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I EXPERIENCED EXTENDED BRAKING. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF STOPPING HARD THE BRAKE PEDAL RETURNED TO WORKING PROPERLY. DECEMBER 4, 2016, I WAS DRIVING ON A PAVED RURAL ROAD AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. I WAS BRAKING AND ALMOST COMPLETELY STOPPED WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE SLID ON A SMALL PATCH OF ICE. THE ABS SYSTEM WAS ENGAGED AND THE BRAKES AGAIN WENT TO THE FLOOR AND EXPERIENCED EXTENDED BRAKING. I WAS UNABLE TO RETURN THE BRAKE PEDAL TO IT'S NORMAL POSITION AND FUNCTIONING. THIS RESULTED IN DRIVING MY CAR WITHOUT 90% OF THE BRAKING POWER. AFTER RESEARCHING I DISCOVERED THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT ON THE CAR WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACED. I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT OBTAIN THE NEEDED HCU TO REPAIR THE BRAKES AND ANOTHER CUSTOMER WAS IN THE SAME POSITION I WAS. I WAS ABLE TO LOCATE AND PURCHASE, ON EBAY, AN ORIGINAL HCU FOR MY CAR. I WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE DEALER REPLACE THE HCU, THUS REPAIRING THE PROBLEM. TOTAL COST OF PARTS, LABOR, REPAIRS IS $850. DEALER WHO COMPLETED REPAIR RAABE FORD DELPHOS, OH. I AM STILL SKEPTICAL AND DO NOT FEEL 100% SAFE WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. IT IS OBVIOUS THE HCU IS MALFUNCTIONING HOWEVER THERE IS NO WAY OF KNOWING WHEN THE HCU WILL MALFUNCTION. I HAVE INCLUDED THE PART AND REPAIR BILLS. *TR
BOTH MY WIFE AND I EXPERIENCED THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING SOFT SO THAT WE HAD TO PRESS DOWN FURTHER AND THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED DOWN FURTHER TO GET TO FIRM RESISTANCE. THE CAR WOULD NOT BRAKE NORMALLY BUT REQUIRED MORE PRESSURE TO BRAKE THE CAR AND TOOK LONGER TO STOP. WE FELT UNSAFE. IT OCCURRED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, WHEN TRYING TO STOP. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL OCCUR OR WHY IT IS HAPPENING. THIS HAPPENED WHEN TRYING TO STOP FOR STREET LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS AND OCCURRED THIS PAST MONTH, THE BEGINNING OF DECEMBER 2016. IT HAPPENED WHEN WE WERE TRAVELING STRAIGHT OR ON A CURVE COMING TO A FULL STOP. IT HAPPENED ON MORE THAN ONE DATE, SEVERAL TIMES TOWARDS THE BEGINNING OF DECEMBER 2016
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH ON A WINTER DAY IN MN. WE HAD VERY LITTLE SNOW DOWN WENT TO STOP AND ABS ACTIVATED BUT I DID NOT HAVE ANY BRAKES. PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND EVER SINCE THEN IT TAKES A LOT LONGER TO STOP AND PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR VERY EASY. WIFE ALSO DRIVES CAR AND SHE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN GOING OVER A POT HOLE ON A NON WINTER DAY. SEEMS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT ESPECIALLY WITH A 5 AND 2 YEAR OLD IN IT. FORD CLAIMS THEY NEVER HAVE PARTS, TO RISK MY LIFE DRIVING IT THEY CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.THE AIRBAG COVER IS STICKING UP AND LOOKS LIKE IT IS FIXING TO EXPLODE AT ANY MINUTE AND THIS NEEDS TO BE DELT WITH MY FAMILY USES THIS CAR TO GET AROUND THATS THE REASON WE BOUGHT IT. FAILURE OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO OBTAIN REPLACEMENT AND REMEDY THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG IN A TIMELY MANNER.
AFTER APPLYING BRAKES AND ENGAGING THE ABS WHILE THE ROAD WAS WET OR HAD SNOW ON IT, THE PEDAL GOES ALMOST COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND STAYS SOFT UNTIL I CONTINUOUSLY PUMP THE BRAKES TO GET IT BACK TO NORMAL. THE CAR HAS DONE THIS APPROXIMATELY 6 TIMES OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS I'VE OWNED THE CAR. IT HAS 115K MILES ON IT. A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND SUPPOSEDLY IT IS THE HCU. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN IT FIXED YET DUE TO THE PRICE AND AVAILABILITY OF THE PART. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE'VE HAD ISSUES WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON OUR 2009 FORD FUSION. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS IN AUGUST 2016, THE SECOND ON NOVEMBER 30, 2016. THIS LAST TIME I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND HAD THEM DO A THOROUGH DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH OUR BRAKES THAT THEY CAN DOCUMENT OR REPLICATE. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE OF THE BREAKING SYSTEM, TEMPORARILY, NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT FOR MY SON THIS WEEK. BACK IN AUGUST IT WAS MY WIFE THAT HAD THE EPISODE. IN AUGUST SHE WAS DRIVING ON A WET BLACKTOP FOUR-LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY AND HIT THE BREAKS FOR A CAR SLOWING IN FRONT OF HER. IMMEDIATELY SHE HAD ALMOST NO BREAKING FUNCTION, WITH THE PEDAL BEING EXTREMELY SOFT AND GOING ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THIS WAS NOT A CASE OF PULSATING ABS ACTION LIKE NORMAL. SHE WAS ABLE TO PUMP THE BRAKES AGGRESSIVELY FOR A WHILE AND GRADUALLY GET BACK ENOUGH BREAKING FUNCTION TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. ON INSPECTION THE BRAKE RESERVOIR WAS FULL. THIS WEEK, THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON A PERFECTLY DRY CONCRETE FOUR-LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY DURING A BRAKING ACTION WHEN PREPARING TO MAKE A TURN ONTO A SIDE ROAD. HE NEARLY HIT A BRICK SIGN AT THE COLLEGE CAMPUS ENTRANCE. HE PUMPED THE BRAKES REPEATEDLY AND GRADUALLY HAD ENOUGH BREAKING FUNCTION RETURN THAT HE COULD DRIVE SLOWLY TO THE PARKING LOT. I TOOK OFF WORK AND DROVE DOWN TO MEET HIM AND TESTED THE VEHICLE. THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS FULL TO THE NORMAL LEVEL. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF LEAKING ON ANY OF THE CALIPERS OR ON THE GROUND BELOW. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STILL VERY SOFT BUT AFTER PUMPING GRADUALLY RETURNED TO NORMAL SO THAT I COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME VERY SLOWLY. WE'VE NOW ALMOST HAD TWO ACCIDENTS WHEN THE BRAKES FAIL TEMPORARILY AND WITHOUT WARNING, THEN GRADUALLY RETURN TO NORMAL OPERATION. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? THIS IS REALLY SCARY AND FRUSTRATING. *TR
WHILE BRAKING OVER A SLIPPERY SURFACE, THE ABS ACTIVATED. AFTER THAT, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO WAY DOWN WITH REDUCED AND DELAYED BRAKING ACTION. EVENTUALLY THE BRAKES RETURNED TO NORMAL ACTUATION BUT THE PROCESS HAS REPEATED, CAUSING DELAYED AND REDUCED BRAKING, TAKING THE DRIVER BY SURPRISE. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY CONCERN.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC STOPPED AHEAD OF ME. I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND ACTIVATED THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THIS DID NOT PROVIDE ANY SIGNIFICANT BRAKING AND I REAR ENDED THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. ABOUT 2 MONTHS PRIOR I HIT A DRAINAGE GRATE AND UPON APPLYING THE BRAKES THERE WAS NO BRAKES. AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES THE BRAKES FELT NORMAL AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES HARD A COUPLE OF TIMES. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED AND THE ONLY THING FOUND WAS THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE TURNED. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 79,000 MILES. *TR
WHEN CAR IS IN MOTION AND HITS A BUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES SOFT AND IT IS HARD TO STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND IS STILL ONGOING. HAVE TAKEN IT TO 3 SHOPS AND THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG.
ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTIVATES WHENEVER BRAKING ON ROUGH ROAD OR WHILE HITTING EVEN SMALL POTHOLES. THIS CAUSES THE BRAKES TO DROP TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKE HAS TO BE PRESSED ALMOST TO THE FLOOR JUST TO GET THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN. WHEN WINTER CAME AND THE ROADS GOT SNOWY/SLUSHY, IT KEPT HAPPENING SO OFTEN AND WAS UNSAFE THAT I PULLED THE FUSE THAT CONTROLS THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL IN ORDER TO KEEP THE ABS FROM ACTIVATING. IT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.
