The power steering on my 2010 Ford Fusion has failed intermittently. Ford has a power steering recall for Ford Fusions made after 2010. I believe they should also include earlier model years in the recall since it is a common issue. The car says “Power Steering Assist Fault” every time I turn it on and the power steering doesn’t work. If I try to drive it, it also says “Service Advancetrac”. If you google these errors, you will find many, many forums where people with 2010 Ford Fusions have this exact issue. The problem was intermittent at first and could be solved by turning off the car and starting it again. Now it cannot be solved no matter what we try. People online report replacing the entire steering rack, only for the problem to persist. Something is wrong here.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal extended to the floor, causing the stopping distance to be extended. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the brake hydraulic control unit was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. On April 1, 2023 me and my family where coming down the mountain when we noticed the brakes where going to the floor . My husband had to pump the brakes in order to have good brakes. This is a safety issue to us and others cause if someone was to slam on brakes we wouldnt have time to stop. Yes it has been inspected I took it to ford place in Mount airy NC on April 11, 2023 and they said HCU failed , it failed at 300,000 miles. No they were no warning lights or anything when this happened and still no lights and still need a HCU in it .

The vehicle was repaired; however, the mechanic advised that the ABS module needed to be diagnosed and repaired by a local dealer. The contact made a local dealer aware of the failure; however, the vehicle had not been taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that that VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact was advised to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

The dealer replaced the wheel speed sensor and while attempting to reprogram the ABS module with the new wheel speed sensor, the ABS module failed to recognize the wheel speed sensor. The dealer informed the contact that the ABS module needed to be replaced; however, the part was on back order. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 98,752.
Loss of braking with out warning Pedal went to floor Qualified mechanic first said it was master cylinder which was replaced but still no brakes googled every one saying same thing its the abs modulator valve Surprised no recall on these for this year model when others have been recalled whats going waiting for people to die driving these things
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to slow the vehicle properly. The contact desperately depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle stopped. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the mechanic replaced the brake parts, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the mechanic again and the brake line and the braking system was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed, and the contact was advised to contact NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 73,000.
As I was driving the power steering failed. A warning message popped up saying to service Power steering and service Advantrax. The steering became a little stiff but I managed to drive it home. My husband went to start it after I got home and it can't be steered at all. This came with no warning or indications whatsoever. From what I have read it's a failure in the power steering system that causes it to need to be reset. I could have wrecked because of this. Please help.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered and hesitated to respond while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the valve cover gasket was fractured and had caused oil to leak onto the spark plugs. The mechanic diagnosed that the valve cover gasket and spark plugs needed to be replaced. Additionally, the mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the brakes, the calipers, and the tie rod needed to be replaced. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.
The brakes did not engage until the last inch or so, and that nearly caused a crash. The hydraulics had failed with no warning at all.

I recently had to replace my front tires due to them having a slow leak. Last night me and my daughter were driving down the interstate towards town, when I almost completely lost steering. Thankfully we was only going 40mph instead of 70mph due to exiting the interstate. Had we of been running 70mph and switching lanes we could of crashed into one of the semi's driving close to us.
I was driving on a heavy highway when my power steering stopped working sending me all over the highway. Luckily I was able to pull over without getting hit. We took the car to ace Ford in Woodbury NJ just so they could look at it and was told the whole power steering rack and pinion had to be replaced. I have 112,000 miles. I know the Ford company recalled all 2011 Ford fusions for the same problem. They want me to pay over $2000 I don't have. I didn't have any warning lights until the steering went out. Power steering failure and traction control light. Just boom...gone
i have done a brake job recently replacing the rear brakes and repaired master cylinder. Car has been inspected by a mechanic who says they have done everything they could and the brakes are not working properly. The brakes have to be pressed all the way to the floor and will not stop. FSA 19S54 is a recall he says was never done and suggested I go to dealer to have it done; however, when I make the attempt to the dealer says that only the air bag and the throttle are under recalls and that is all they can fix. REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL # FSA 19S54 states that in some of the affected vehicles, a chemical reaction between aged DOT 3 brake fluid and the zinc plating inside the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) may result in a gel formation. A normally closed valve may be stuck open, which may result in extended brake pedal travel. This seems to be what is happening. I am taking to San Antonio's Northside Ford as soon as I can to do the airbag recalls(Ford's number for these recall is 21S12, 18S01, 16S26, 18S34, 19S01 & 21S05.) and the throttle ( recalls that Ford told me about. I do not understand why when I Google recall that I see the airbags recall for driver and passenger side and the ABS hydraulic brake recall but do not see the one Ford said about the throttle. At the very least the information could be passed down throughout your system. Other recalls, 11 total, need to be addressed if not already. I happen to know Northside Ford actually attempted to charge me for some of these things as I still have that invoice with the recommendations. the Kelly Blue Book (KBB) link where I received most of my information is https://www.kbb.com/ford/fusion/2010/recall/?vehicleid=248463 My car essentially has no brakes and every possible cause has been addressed with no solution. The mechanic noticed these very important recall have never been addressed with this vehicle. This ABS hydraulic recall MUST be the only factor left.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the electric power steering failure warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by a certified mechanic who stated that the power steering assist had failed to operate as needed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the due to the age of the vehicle was not eligible for a free repair under recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 132,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed however, the brakes failed to respond. Additionally, the contact stated that the brakes, ABS, traction control, and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle, but the failure persisted. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.
While driving our 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, several warning appeared on the instrument panel. " service power steering" came on in red, "service advancetrac" was orange. The vehicle still had power steering at this point. After arriving home and turning off the engine, I restarted the engine to see if the lights might reset. At this point , the one warning changed to "service power steering NOW". At this point, there was no power assist with the steering. I know there is a recall, #15V340000, for 2011 - 2013 Fusion steering fails. Why was the 2010 model not included, as I have found many complaints online of steering failures on this model year car.
Power steering assist failure after flat tire
ABS module. Potential safety risk. Huge lawsuit waiting to happen.
The electric power steering failed as she was driving the car. She was able to control the car and returned home safely. No previous issues with the steering. It failed completely while driving.
I have a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid that has approximately 90k miles. The car started randomly shutting off while driving. No combustion engine, no electric motor propelling the car. Suddenly shutting off while driving is incredibly unsafe. I took it to a Ford dealer and after much communication with Ford HQ, it was determined that the transmission control module was bad. This component is buried inside the hybrid cvt transmission, and as such cannot be repaired. The entire transmission needs to be replaced. After contacting about 10 large transmission shops in the region I found out that none of them can do the work. Ford has made the unit so that the information in the unit can only be copied and written with Ford software. It is impossible for a repair shop to install a used unit. The only way to repair the car is with a new transmission from Ford that I was quoted $14,000 for. This is a scam against the consumer. A decent running car is reduced to scrap value over a single component that only the dealer can repair at an exorbitant price. This is inherently unsafe and a total consumer scam.
The brakes don’t grab. They go almost to the floor and it takes a lot longer to stop. We have owned this car for 10 years and it is a continued problem. We take it to the mechanic and they can’t find anything wrong with it. We tap on the hydraulic brake control unit which makes the brakes work again. We finally found a recall for Ford fusions where the valve inside the hydraulic brake control unit can stick open and cause increased stopping time. Our fusion is a 2010 but does not fall into the criteria for the recall. I think the recall needs to be expanded.
ABS and anti skid light are on and those systems don't function. ABS control module is bad and Ford has a recall on this but the VIN for this vehicle doesn't fall under this recall for the same exact model year and part on other recalled cars. All cars with this issue should fall under this recall.
I have contacted the Ford dealership in my area over a year ago and still have not been serviced on the air bag recall. Also, the power steering system is faulty. I am getting no assistance in repairing from the location the vehicle was purchased from. Power steering message appeared on my dash while driving. This is the second vehicle I have gotten from the dealer with a power steering issue.
My Fusion has been having the same issues as other Ford Fusions with the electrical power steering, traction control and the tpms system. They have been acting up for months and now the power steering does not work at all. I have talked to my local Ford dealer and the Ford 1800 number and they say since it does not fall within the VIN guidelines they are not responsible for it and they I will have to pay out of pocket for it and if it should ever be recalled for it they would then reimburse me my cost if I kept all of my reciepts. I feel like it should be under recall and Ford have to pay for it.
Leaving driveway forward steering got difficult then I was unable to turn the wheel. Thankfully I was not coming home from college on the interstate going 70 when the steering failed. Ford has been using this part since 2008 but recalls are only on 2011 & 2012. Why? I could have been killed. Mechanic says car needs replacement of electronic power steering assist system.
This vehicle has been in our family since new and all recalls and service has been done on schedule. Currently only have 75K miles on it. On January 19, 2023 I was driving the vehicle in question and had a warning pop up saying Check Brake System and Service AdvanceTrac at the same time I lost my brakes and the vehicle lost power but not total power. No warning was given prior to this happening. I was able to stop the vehicle after pushing the brakes all the way to the floor and putting the car in neutral. I was luckily in my neighborhood after driving home in heavy traffic. I was able to get the car to my driveway and after restarting the car the warning went away and my husband drove the vehicle and did not have the issue. I found that Ford had a Customer Service Satisfaction internal recall back in 2010 on this vehicle for the exact same problem. The fix was applied back in 2010. I just recently brought the car in for another recall for a battery firmware update which I believe could have messed with the fix that was applied back in 2010. I called Ford and they stated there was nothing they could do. I can't get into a ford dealership for them to look into this for another 2 weeks. If other vehicles received this same firmware update for the battery they may incur the same issue and someone could be hurt or worse killed if they panic and don't know what to do. I had a hard enough time stopping the vehicle and I knew what to do but luckily I was not in traffic when it happened. I found an article written by Consumer reports back in Feburary 2010 stating the same issue. Vehicle is available for inspection at any time.
Electronic power steering systems failure (2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid) due to issues of excessive heat on the motor), Power steering locked. I was on HWY90 when the steering locked, I almost got in big accident on the HWY 90.
While driving at about 15 mph my dashboard ABS system failed light turned on as well as to traction failure and warning brake system maintainace light. I pressed on brake pedal and no braking was felt resulting in the car not stopping. I let it glide till it stopped I turned the car off and on and all the same warning lights were on I pressed on the brake while in drive mode and pedal to floor.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that when he started the vehicle, the steering wheel was locked. The power steering assist warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that previously, the fuse was removed and then replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified, and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall and was advised to call the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 159,000.
I was driving. Went to stop for a stop light. I pushed peddle down. It went down 90% before I had any resistance. With the last 10% I was able to slow the car before a crash. All of the lights on the dashboard turned on, including the brake light. I turned off the car and pulled the key. I put the key in and restarted, while still sitting in the roadway. I was able to drive it less than a mile to the fire dealer. They tell me the ABS module is not working. I see there is a recall on ABS modules for other 2010 ford fusions, but not mine.
Anti-Lock brakes controller failed. Cannot brake without car shaking violently. Causes safety issues with controlling vehicle during stop ABS light came on Manufacturer (Ford) has not been able to get the (chip) for over 1 year
After Antilock brake activation the brake peddle fades and have to push brake peddle to floor. Have to push on pedal to get car to stop. It only happens after try to stop on a slippery surface such as ice and snow. Pedal will return back to normal after about 20 or 30 minutes. I feel this is not a safe condition, it could end up with me getting into an accident when the pedal fades to the floor. I did notice that there was a recall for certain 2006-2010 Ford fusions but apparently my vehicle isn’t a part of that. I plan on taking the vehicle to my local dealership to get it repaired. I will also argue my case to the dealership as to that my vehicle should fall within that recall as it is exhibiting the same issues as the recall is stating. This has occurred on multiple occasions and only after my antilock system activated.
ABS module sticking brake pedal soft Must press hard to stop , brake feel like they don’t work ABS Lights come on traction control disengagement Took to mechanic for verification.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The contact applied the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The manufacturer advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving approximately 35 MPH, the brakes became inoperable. The contact was able to steer off the road and stopped the vehicle. During the failure, several unknown warning lights illuminated but then disappeared. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the HCU control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was contacted but no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage 172,000. The contact stated that the vehicle was manufactured days after the recall date however, the vehicle is the exact make and model with the same failure.
2010 Fusion Hybrid. One owner. The car had multiple warning lights come on, including "Check Brake System" "Service Advancetrac" and "ABS" as brake pedal collapsed to floor while driving in normal highway conditions. This was not an anti-lock brake hard stop incident. it was a normal easy braking situation with no advance warning of brake system failure. Vehicle has always been maintained in correct condition. Have photo of dash lights from incident. Pulled over after near collision, took dash photo, turned car off. Upon restarting, the brake pedal was normal level and firmness again. Carefully drove to nearest repair shop who could not find a cause nor repeat the failure. Local Ford dealer and VIN search indicates this vehicle is NOT covered by 19S54. Nonsense.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle began to jerk forward. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving to his destination. The contact stated that he had experienced the failure five times in total. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 161,000.
Power steering went out while driving. Nearly cause me to crash. Apparently this is an issue with these vehicles but my vin is not part of the recall?
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering assist. The service advance track message was displayed. The check engine and power steering assist fault warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the steering rack angle sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.
My brakes went totally out as I was backing out of my driveway and all the abs light lit up. When I tried to press the brakes they went all the way to the floor and barely stopped. Once I turned the car off and on it went away. But a few hours later it came right back I took to the dealership they said the ABS failed. Part has been on back order
While driving the steering failed, was able to avoid crashing into power pole!!!
The contact's girlfriend owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the brake pedal would depress to the floorboard as both the ABS and traction control warning lights appeared on the instrument panel. The contact changed the brake pads and rotors; however, the failure persisted. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics) which he linked to the failure. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
