When applying the brakes, they go almost all the way to the floor without warning. This just started happening this year so I had the master cylinder replaced by a certified mechanic and it still occurs intermittently. They will work fine for months at a time and then do exactly the same thing where they go almost all the way to the floor. It can happen when driving or at a stop. When it happens when driving at high speeds it is scary as I don’t feel I am going to stop. I am thinking of trading in the car because I don’t feel safe and feel that I am putting myself and others in danger.

The "Power Steering Assist Fault" light came on when the car was started and the steering wheel was very heavy and hard to move. Simultaneously, the "Service AdvanceTrac" light also came on. The vehicle was later scanned and an internal component failure code "U-3000:04-68" was identified for the Power Steering Motor. This is an internal system failure. The safety risk was to the driver along with other drivers on the road due to the vehicle being harder to control. The failure happened during a 600 mile drive and the vehicle was driven home carefully as no other arrangements could be made. Driver sustained wrist injury and pain at the carpals from increased effort needed to manually steer vehicle. The "Power Steering Assist Fault" had previously appeared for a couple seconds upon vehicle start up but had not previously disabled the power steering. It had been originally reprogrammed with the recall in 2016 but the recall re-programming proved ineffective.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while attempting to exit the vehicle, the contact became aware that the door handle had become detached. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
Since I have had this vehicle I have had power steering faults every other week sometimes multiple times a week sometimes they take a couple week break, but the power steering cuts out and I get a power steering assist fault or service advancetrac fault on the display and it cuts out the power steering. If I pull over and shut it off and turn it back on it will go away and I can continue with power steering again. Sometimes it does this before I get going and sometimes it does this while I’m driving and the only solution is turning the ignition off and then waiting a bit and starting it again. Sometimes I have to do it 3-4 times but it will eventually behave normally again. However today, luckily while still at home, the service advancetrac will not go away and power steering is completely gone. Only after the complete failure have I now read about ford extending warranties to 10 years 150,000 miles which I am just out of time, I’m well under 150,000 miles. No service center has reproduced it as it was such an intermittent issue I couldn’t just leave my vehicle there for weeks.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The brake ABS module fails intermittently on 2010-2012 model year Ford Fusion Hybrid vehicles. It has failed multiple times on mine and I have only owned the vehicle for 2 months. The vehicle is available for inspection. When the module fails, the vehicle switches from electronic to manual braking; however, there are times when the brakes will not engage with the pedal at full travel, touching the floor board of the car. When this happens, the car does not stop and has almost resulted in accidents in the past and around April 2024, most recently for me. The only reason a crash did not occur is the light I was stopping for changed green and the car in front of me began moving. I was traveling approximately 25 mph when I began to press the brake pedal. I pumped the pedal 3 times but was still traveling around 15 mph when the light turned green. I had the car inspected by a mechanic because of this issue and found out the entire ABS module and brake pump housing is defective; the plastic pieces from the module that connect to the pump can fracture due to brake pressure. The module is also vin/vehicle specific and replacement parts are extremely hard to find. Symptoms leading to this issue are the parking brake lights-one on the instrument cluster and one on the information screen, and the Check Brake System message illuminate. There is also a clicking noise and vibration from the brake pedal, which I was told is the electronic assistance lever moving away from the pedal. There are multiple people talking about this in online forums and seems to be a well documented fault, even into 2024.
POWER STEERING ASSITT FAULT. COMMUNICATION CODE U3000 FOR INTERNAL MODULE FAILURE FOR POWER STEERING. HAD TO REPLACE POWER STEERING RACK. NOT SURE WHY THIS IS COVERED ON SOME FORD FUSION'S 2011 AND 2012. IT WAS COVERED ON MY 2012 FUSION VIN [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being refueled, the contact heard an abnormal sound. The vehicle was started, and the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle began shaking. The contact observed an abnormally strong gasoline odor. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
Electronic steering control module no longer functions. Ford refuses to fix this issue due to this vehicle not being part of the recall that was put out for this. My car is essentially totaled. I cannot afford to buy another vehicle or fix this issue, so now I have to drive with no power steering.
The Power Steering failed on a 2011 ford fusion se. The recall supposedly ended after 150k miles and I’m 150 miles over and they refused to do it which is shady. Never had a issue until I passed the certain mileage.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the message "Power Steering Assist Fault" was displayed, and the steering wheel was locked. The contact read information online on how to reset the vehicle and was able to reset the vehicle the following day. The contact drove to the residence. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
While driving power steering lost. Instant loss of control of vehicle. Brought to dealer scanned for diagnostic code U2011 present. The dealer applied to have my steering rack replaced under campaign 15N01. Ford denied. I called for customer service and although they are aware of the issue it is Not a recall so they are not required to replace it or offer any good will. The campaign is expired on my vehicle by 3 years. This should be a safety recall for which there is no expiration date. It is up to the NHTSA to enact this potentially deadly situation. Ford has acknowledged this defect for which I have already experienced loss of power steering but is hiding behind a date on an expired campaign verses a safety recall. What needs to happen for this to be a recall which would require Ford to address their faulty part?? Please contact me immediately to discuss.
Within one week, my power steering fault came on twice, luckily driving at 5-10mph. But still scary at 10mph. Scary to imagine any faster. It locks up randomly out of no where in the neighborhood. Nothing touched before hand, no indication it was going to lock up, no warning. It locks up and cannot move the wheel so I have put it in park and turned off engine and restart it to move the steering wheel again. On the dash it will say ‘Power Steering Fault’. This is my vehicle I rely on for work and commute for myself and my child. No other vehicle possible for backup. This is dangerous and will not risk driving the vehicle, and at dead end with work and transportation on a busy schedule. I was lucky it did not happen in an intersection or crowded street or freeway and more lucky that my child was with me on one of the two times it happened driving 5mph and not 10mph. Cannot imagine it happen with other vehicles around.
The power steering went out in my vehicle after it being well in the negative temps as I live in North Dakota. After doing some research online it seems to be a common issue with my vehicle. I am glad it happened not while I was in motion, as losing power steering on the highway would not have been good. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Power Steering Assist Fault. It has been looked at by an independent car shop and the Ford dealership where I live. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Power steering going out. While I was not in motion at the time of the failure, if i had been the safety of everyone around me and my own life would have been put at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes Ford has it at their dealership right now. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? It happened to me once before when it was really cold, but turned back on. Now I have a $2,500 bill on my hands, as the whole steering rack needs to be replaced.
The power steering went out on my son while driving and he could have gotten in an accident! at 61k miles and the part on this car was made 10 days before the recall. I believe this VIN should have been included in the Steering Gear Assembly recall! Now I’m stuck with a 2k repair! For a faulty Steering Gear Assembly! And Ford Motor won’t budge- spouting the 60k warranty. This part should not fail at 61k- it’s a known issue! Many engineers at Ford have told me it’s highly likely the part in my car could have been in the same manufacturing lot as the ones recalled.
The contact's son owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the brake pedal was depressed and remained on the floorboard. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder and brake system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,400.
While driving my car the steering went out causing a huge safety issue and making my car un drivable. Has a CSP 15N01 through Ford Motor Company which has a limitation of 10 years or 150,000 miles whichever comes first that went out in 2015 causing owners of 2011-2013 to be forced to pay for the cost related to the repair in excess of $2,000 plus. This defect is Ford caused and should be reopened to the owners of these older vehicles before someone gets seriously injured or results in death by loss of steering. control. Being a mother of 3 with very limited income and this being my only mode of transportation, I am at a loss and will be unable to get this repaired or another vehicle resulting in the loss of my job and my children being unable to get to and from school. This recall should be reopened and this defect repaired.
While driving at low rate of speed, I lost all steering and check power steering now light came on. I slowly took back roads and drove it home.
Power Steering Assist Fault in a 2011 Ford Fusion not being treated due to it previously being reprogrammed to satisfy the recall 15S18 but they never replaced the steering gear which is now failing. The CSP 15N01 is now expired on my car and the dealership and Ford corporate refuse to treat it despite the negligence of the original technician who never correctly fixed it in the first place. This is an extremely dangerous issue as power steering may randomly shut off and make it nearly impossible to steer safely. The steering gear replacement was confirmed by an auto repair store.
The ABS Brake module had an internal failure, per the Lucas Ford Dealership in Burlington New Jersey. The Part I believe is available upon request. - The way my safety / the safety of others was put at risk was that my abs brake system had an internal failure. No car dash indicator lights came up, however my brake peddle became spongy and created a delayed brake time response due to the fact the brake would not engage until nearly fully depressed or engaged into the floor. - Once i noticed the brake issue and this brake concern did not go away I then contacted and brought my car to The lucas ford dealership in Burlington NJ, in which this dealership confirmed my brake issue and told me there was an internal failure in the abs brake module. - The Component has inspected by the Lucas ford dealership, who repaired the issue on 1-7-24 - No warning lamps, messages were emitted concerning this brake failure. The only reason I knew about this issue is due to the fact my brake peddle started to feel like a sponge when engaging the brake peddle to stop the car. - I have documentation of the repair done by Lucas Ford Dealership. - I appreciate the work the NHTSA does to keep U.S Citizens safe, which is why i am reaching out to explain the issue i had regarding my brake system to keep others out of harms way. After doing some research online, this issue regarding the abs module failure in this particular car model seems to be an issue other U.S Citizens are having. To note, This particular repair costs almost 2,000 dollars. At the time of this this submission was written, the repair report was not in hand, the repair report can be submitted upon request if further review is needed.
Loss steering not able to drive.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that upon start, the warning message "Power Assist Failure" was displayed, and the steering wheel became inoperable. The vehicle was restarted and the vehicle resumed to normal function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be duplicated, diagnosed, or repaired. The failure recurred when the contact's spouse was driving at unknown speeds, the warning message "Power Assist Failure" was displayed, and the steering wheel became inoperable. The vehicle was maneuvered back to the contact's residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was not duplicated, diagnosed, or repaired. The failure recurred and the contact turned the vehicle off and then turned it on, for the steering wheel to become operable. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was notified of the Customer Satisfaction Programs 15N01 for Epas steering efforts, and 13N03 for Electronic throttle body extended coverage when speaking to the manufacturer. The dealer stated that the vehicle had surpassed the mileage and the 10 years that the program allowed for the repair. The manufacturer was notified about the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
The gas tank has developed a crack towards the top of the tank. This appears to be from the exact same issue that Ford recalled because the "purge valve" can cause the pressure to change inside the gas tank. As the pressure increases and decreases, a crack can develop in the top of the tank, allowing fuel to leak. My VIN was not included in the recall for some reason. Even though it is the exact same model and I believe was even built at the same plant in Mexico where the other impacted vehicles were made.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering functionality. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000(Steering); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,870.
The electronic power steering assist module malfunctioned resulting in loss of steering control. The unit began smoking and was stopped immediately, fortunately in the driveway so there was no risk to anyone while the car was travelling on a roadway. The vehicle (2011 Ford Fusion) is currently not driveable since as soon as the battery is reconnected it heats up and the unit starts smoking again. There is no way to steer the vehicle as a result. There was an online article indicating that this year and model may have been subject to a recall due to the steering defect, but searching the NHTSA database did not reveal this particular issue being addressed. The vehicle has not yet been inspected as it needs to be towed to either the dealer or auto repair shop depending on whether Ford will assist in the repair.
On 12/28/2023, my power steering went out on my Fusion. It gave a message in the message center “Power Steering Assist Fault”, and after software diagnosis, the steering rack has been confirmed to be faulty. The vehicle has been a nightmare to drive, requiring up to 14 rotations of the steering wheel to rotate sufficiently, causing minor but repeated injuries to my neck, hands, wrists, and arms. On 1/10/2024, a supervisor called me and again denied an extension of the repair program to replace the faulty rack, putting my income and safety at risk.
I bought the car in 03/2019. I was not informed about this recall. We had the epsa go out last week, called the ford dealership, made an appointment. Drove the car without power steering to the dealership, they looked at it and told us $2,200.00. I said there is a recall, the man said I am at 158,000 and that is over the allotted 150,000 miles. I was not informed about this recall, therefore I could not know to go get this fixed. I called Ford customer service and she said they cannot help. This is a SAFETY concern and I do not know how this is even legal. I am filing a formal complaint.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the power steering assist failed to operate as needed with the "Service Power Steering Now" and "Service Power Assist Fault" messages displayed. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the computer was reset; however, the failure returned soon after the reset. Upon investigation, the contact discovered and linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 168,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost the electric power steering assist functionality. The vehicle was restarted but the failure persisted. The contact stated that the Traction Control System warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the electric power steering assist needed to be replaced. The contact referenced the NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering) to the dealer and the manufacturer and was informed that due to the mileage on the vehicle, the repair was not covered and would be an out-of-pocket expense. The approximate failure mileage was 158,000.
While driving on a major highway during rush hour, at the posted speed limit (65MPH) , without any warning the vehicle completely lost any and all braking capability without any prior warning or indication of an issue later on after managing to avoid any type of accident or collision with anything around. I turned the car off, when turning the car back on then and only then I received a dashboard full of lights most important being “service advancetrac” and (!) BRAKE, “Check break system”. By reading many other forums with the same car and the exact issues and notifications it says that there is a glitch in the ABS module with communicates with the hydraulic control unit which caused complete and catastrophic brake failure. Which could have resulted in a major accident, risking my life, the occupants of my vehicle, and any other vehicle around. Lucky I was able to maneuver my way off to the side of the highway, and slowly make my vehicle come to a stop, then putting it in park, which would be the only way to stop the vehicle from moving or rolling back or forward. I believe this is a very serious issue that must be addressed. The car is now being diagnosed at a Ford Dealer at a cost of $200 and probably a repair cost of over $2600 according to others. I’am still waiting after spending $1000 on a car rental to make it to work so I would not risk my job. This is all more money then I even make, these companies need to be held accountable for putting the lives of me and my family and all the other people and families on the road that day. Thank god this did not end differently. The website is not allowing me to upload any photos of the light that appeared on the dashboard only after the incident occurred! I would have liked for people to see incase they experience this same issue
Abs pump failed resulting in very little brakes which almost caused a accident with my wife and daughter in the car. With no warning lights on and no indication of brake failure until they tried to avoid a car/ group of deer accident. Car had 25% brakes. They cautiously got the car home. Upon inspection no leaks or anything wrong with brake system. After doing research on the problem car is experiencing, I found that previous models of the fusion had been recalled for the same problem. 2011 and 2012 were still having problems with them, but no recall, even tho many owners had the same problem. $850 plus tax for just the part and no labor. I put a new abs pump in and corrected the problem. Ford should recall this as brakes are very important safety issue. This could kill or injure people as there is no warning at all to the failure.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the vehicle had failed to start. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics to be diagnosed. The contact stated that a mechanic replaced the starter; however, the failure persisted. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000. The VIN was not available.
on November 28, 2023, I was driving about 30 mph when my power steering completely went out. Two warnings popped up stating “service power steering now” and “service advancetrac”. The two icons with what looks like tires sliding / tcs indicator are also present. I did nothing out of the ordinary and typical driving. I wasn’t on icy roads or speeding. I didn’t hit my brakes in any manner that would trigger a mishap with sliding. But this is scary to have happened and now because it’s winter in Idaho, it will be absolutely unsafe for me to operate this vehicle. This needs to be taken care of.
The brake pedal on my 2011 Fusion compressed to the floor just barely stopping the vehicle. This happened suddenly without warning. This puts me, other drivers, and pedestrians at risk. This braking issue was confirmed by my mechanic. My mechanic said that the issue is with the hydraulic control unit (ABS part), and he said that it looks to be like the exact issue covered in the current recall for 2006-2010 Fusion models. He also replaced the brake master cylinder as part of the problem although the brake pedal is still very soft. The local Ford dealership confirmed the issue but says the ABS part is on back order thru early 2024.
I had started the car as usual and the dashboard had thrown an error saying power steering assist fault. The steering wheel was very difficult to move and trying to drive was very dangerous. Ford is refusing to cover this service even though the vehicles at 118k miles under the 150,000 mile mark. This is very frustrating as I have researched this is an extremely common problem for Ford Fusions made from this Assembly Plant under extended warranty 15N01 recall 15S18
My power steering has gone out, making it very unsafe to drive. It’s a workout to turn the car and I do not feel safe driving it.
I experienced power steering failure while driving nearly causing me to have a major accident. This failure is due to a Power steering module failure. Ford had a safety recall for this (14S06), link below. There was no warning. I had a mechanic inspect and confirm the problem. The car is nearly un-drivable. I tried calling a Ford dealership (Tasca Ford, Berlin CT) they told me the recall expired. I called Ford, they told me the same thing. However, Ford's recall support page clearly states "Safety, Compliance, and Emissions Recalls do not expire. Affected vehicles remain eligible until the repair is completed." Link below. I'm at loss. It's a very expensive repair that Ford should cover. Please Help. [XXX] [XXX] . Thanks, [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
