I HAVE BEEN SENSING A SURGE IN ENGINE POWER FOR SEVERAL MONTHS IN MY 2011 FUSION. I SUSPECTED A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM AND GOOGLED FOR INFORMATION. I FOUND ALL OF THE INFORMATION ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE ABOUT THROTTLE BODY PROBLEMS FOR THIS CAR AS WELL AS INFORMATION IN OTHER FORUMS. IT WAS A GOOD THING AS I WAS PREPARED FOR WHAT HAPPENED TODAY. I HAD JUST LEFT MY HOUSE WHEN THE DREADED (AND EXPECTED) LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WITH THE WRENCH LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED. I EXPERIENCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS REPORTED BY SO MANY COMPLAINTS LOGGED FOR THIS ISSUE: LOSS OF POWER, ROUGH IDLE, JUST ENOUGH POWER TO BARELY MOVE THE CAR, CERTAINLY NOT ENOUGH TO LIMP ANYWHERE, MUCH LESS HOME, EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS IN "LIMP HOME" MODE. I HAD MY CODE SCANNER WITH ME AND WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE THE P2111 (THROTTLE STUCK OPEN) CODE BEFORE I RESTARTED THE CAR TO RESTORE FULL POWER. THIS ONLY WORKED ENOUGH TO GET THE CAR TURNED AROUND WHEN LIMP HOME WAS TRIGGERED AGAIN. I RESTARTED AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET WITHIN A BLOCK OF MY HOUSE WHEN LIMP HOME TRIGGERED ONCE MORE. THE THIRD TIME I WAS ABLE TO GET TO MY HOUSE. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEN ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO GET MY CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AFTER VERIFYING THAT THEY HAD A THROTTLE BODY IN STOCK. THE CAR WAS TOWED THERE AND A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED. THIS IS NOT A CASE OF IF THE FAILURE WILL HAPPEN, BUT RATHER WHEN. I WAS FULLY EXPECTING IT ANY DAY AND SURE ENOUGH, IT HAPPENED. I WAS EXTREMELY FORTUNATE AS I WAS LESS THAN A MILE FROM HOME, KNEW WHAT TO EXPECT AND HOW TO DEAL WITH IT, AND MY CAR WAS STILL IN WARRANTY, BUT ONLY BY 1,806 MILES! ANY OTHER SITUATION WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN ME BEING IN A VERY DANGEROUS PREDICAMENT WITH A CAR THAT WAS BASICALLY DEAD IN THE WATER. I WAS ALMOST TO THE POINT OF PURCHASING A NEW THROTTLE BODY ON MY OWN IN THE INTEREST OF BEING PROACTIVE RATHER THAN BEING STRANDED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
I WAS DRIVING 35MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE LURCHED A COUPLE OF TIMES AND DECELERATED ON ITS OWN TO 2MPH. NO MATTER HOW MUCH I PRESSED ON THE GAS OR LET OFF ON THE GAS, THE VEHICLE STAYED AT 2MPH. THE "WRENCH" ICON ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. THE ENGINE STAYED MID-WAY BETWEEN HOT AND COLD, BUT THE RPM'S NEVER GOT ABOVE 1 & 1/2. TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER AND FOUND OUT THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS GOING OUT. I WAS SO THANKFUL I WAS NOT DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70MPH (OR TURNING INTO TRAFFIC) WHEN THE DECELERATION SUDDENLY OCCURRED. I WAS POWERLESS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AS THE TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO SHUT OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE, AS IT RESUMED NORMAL FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF APPROX 35 MPH, THE I RECEIVED A VEHICLE WARNING ON THE DASH OF "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT/SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC SYSTEM". THE VEHICLE BECAME HARD TO MANEUVER AND APPEARED TO REVERT BACK TO MANUAL STEERING. DROVE APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 2.5 MILES AND TURNED CAR OFF. UPON RESTART STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL. DROVE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD POSSIBLE FAULTY ELECTRICAL STEERING SENSOR AND MAYNEED TOTAL STEERING SYSTEM REPLACED. WAITING FOR FINAL DIAGNOSES AT THIS TIME. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE ENGINE BUCKED AND SEEMED TO STALL, THEN RECOVERED. THE PREVIOUS WEEK IT HAD STALLED COMPLETELY. SHORTLY AFTER IT STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT AGAIN AND DID NOT RECOVER. *TR
VEHICLE STALLED OUT DURING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. TOOK CAR TO FORD AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
VEHICLE WAS GETTING UP TO SPEED AT ABOUT 40-50 MPH AND UPON DEPRESSING GAS PEDAL COMBINED WITH SHIFTING OF GEARS (AUTOMATIC), ENGINE STALLED. OCCURRED TWICE WITH 5 MILES ON BUSY HIGHWAY. ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON EACH TIME. AFTER SHUTTING DOWN ENGINE ON SHOULDER, IT STARTED RIGHT BACK AND RAN FINE FOR A WHILE. WAS FORTUNATE WITH NO TRAFFIC INCIDENT/ACCIDENT EITHER TIME. OCCURRED THREE MORE TIMES BEFORE GETTING TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP SERVICE INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY PART IT AT MY COST AS THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER IT. *TR
POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THE VEHICLE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, BOTH WHILE DRIVING AND SITTING AT A STOP. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TURN, THUS THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN. "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE" WARNING CAME ON DURING ALL OCCASIONS. POWER STEERING WOULD COME BACK ON AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF, BUT EVENTUALLY TOTALLY WENT OUT. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP SO THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RACK COULD BE REPLACED. LUCKILY MY WIFE WAS NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC DURING OCCASIONS WHEN POWER STEERING WENT OUT, OTHERWISE THE SITUATIONS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY BAD. OUR TODDLER WAS IN THE CAR DURING ALL OCCASIONS AS WELL. I HAVE SEEN COUNTLESS OTHER STORIES ON ONLINE FORUMS ABOUT THE POWER STEERING FAILING IN 2011 FORD FUSIONS. THERE HAS JUST BEEN A MASSIVE RECALL FOR GM VEHICLES INVOLVING THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING, PERHAPS THEY ARE RELATED. PLEASE HELP IN THIS MATTER. FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUE A RECALL. HOPEFULLY FORD ISN'T HIDING AND RUNNING FROM THIS PROBLEM DUE TO MONEY, AS WE HAD TO PAY $1,800 FOR THE REPAIR. THANK YOU. *TR
THIS IS MY SECOND OCCURRENCE: I WAS DRIVING AT A LEVEL SPEED OF ABOUT 45 WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC (IN-CITY ROAD, SPEED LIMIT 45). WHEN I HEARD MY CAR SEEM TO SHIFT OUT OF GEAR, AND START STALLING AND SLOWING DOWN AND THE WRENCH ICON ON THE DASH WAS LIT UP. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE OF A FOUR-LANE STREET. I GOT TO QUICKEST UPCOMING SHOULDER, AND TURNED MY VEHICLE FULLY OFF AND BACK ON. THIS STOPPED MY CAR FROM STALLING AND SHAKING. BUT I AM STARTING TO FEEL VERY UNSAFE IN MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THERE IS NO WARNING WHEN MY CAR WILL STALL OUT AND I DO A LOT OF HIGHWAY TRAVELING. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME IN A 2 WEEK PERIOD THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. *TR
MY 11 FUSION DIED IN GEAR (LEMP MODE THEY CALL IT) IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WHERE I WAS ALMOST HIT AND STOPPED TRAFFIC FOR A GOOD AMOUNT OF TIME DUE TO IT BEING IN GEAR AND UNABLE TO MOVE. AFTER BEING TOWED TO A DEALER AND BEING TOLD IT WAS MY BATTERY; I LEFT THE DEALER PAYING FOR THE TOW, DIAGNOSTIC AND A BATTERY. I WENT BACK A WEEK LATER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD MY CAR WAS IN GOOD RUNNING CONDITION. AROUND THE CORNER FROM THE DEALERSHIP IS THE ON RAMP TO GO HOME. AS I WAS ACCELERATING UP THE ON RAMP TO HIGHWAY SPEED IT WENT INTO LEMP MODE AGAIN LEAVING ME WITH NO POWER ENTERING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THANK GOD THE SEMI AND OTHER VEHICLES BEHIND ME WERE PAYING ATTENTION AND AVOIDED REAR ENDING ME AT HIGH SPEED. I WAS AGAIN TOWED AROUND THE BLOCK FROM TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THAT IT IS MY THROTTLE BODY POSITION SENSOR AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY, OR THE FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY. $600.00 LATER; I AM TRADING THIS CAR IN BECAUSE IT IS NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVING WITH THIS POSSIBILITY OF LOSING ALL POWER AT A CRITICAL TIME. SOME ONE NEEDS TO HAVE THEM ACCOUNT FOR THIS ERROR AND GET THESE CARS OFF THE ROAD. I WAS CLOSE TO BEING KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS AND SOONER OR LATER THIS WILL CAUSE A DEATH. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A MAIN THOROUGHFARE GOING ABOUT 45 MPH WHEN MY VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 2 MPH. THE CAR BEGAN SPUTTERING AND SHAKING SO I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY GET OFF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF. I WAITED FOR A FEW MINUTES AND STARTED IT AGAIN, BUT IT WOULD NOT GO OVER 2 MPH. A FAMILY MEMBER HAPPENED TO BE BEHIND ME AND HAD TO HELP ME GET OFF ROAD WITH TRAFFIC PASSING BY US. HE THOUGHT PERHAPS I HAD WATER IN THE GAS SO WE BOUGHT AN ADDITIVE TO SEE IF IT HELPED, AND IT SEEMED TO WORK FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF, BUT THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN TWO MORE TIMES. THIS TIME THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. I WENT TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE WHERE THEY TESTED IT AND GOT AN ERROR CODE OF P2111. I HAD TO GO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAD THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH HER FORD FUSION JUST A FEW MONTHS BACK. SHE PAID OVER $500 TO GET HERS REPAIRED AND I HAD TO PAY ABOUT $400 TO GET MINE REPAIRED. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE, AND I BELIEVE FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,000.
CAR STALLED WHILE ON HIGHWAY. BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC, SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. WITH NO POWER/ ACCELERATION, DRIVER TURNED ON HAZARDS AND MANEUVERED TO LEFT SHOULDER. CAR WAS SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED. PROBLEM RECURRED. CAR WAS TOWED TO NEAREST DEALER. THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AND PROBLEM HAS NOT RECURRED.
LEAVING WORK ON MY WAY HOME IT WAS FINE. I PROCEEDED TO GET ONTO THE EXPRESS WAY, AS I WENT TO CHANGE LANES THE STEERING GOT REALLY HARD TO TURN AFTER 10 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE POWER STEERING ASSIST LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO CHECK ANY FUSES BUT WERE ALL GOOD. I THEN TRIED TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO RESET IT. I TRIED A FEW BUT THE ONE THAT WORK FOR ME WAS TURNING THE CAR OFF THEN TURN THE KEY TO THE ON POSITION PUT IT IN NEUTRAL WHILE IN NEUTRAL TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK THEN START IT UP AND IT WORKED. THEN IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. I THINK THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS COMPONENT TO PUT ON A CAR, BECAUSE IT GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. *JB
DRIVING AT 35 MPH LOST ACCELERATION, ENGINE IDLES BUT WHEN GAS PEDDLE IS PUSHED TO THE FLOOR NO POWER. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND WITHOUT HESITATION I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT IT WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. CANT BELIEVE THIS IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL. VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY!!!! AND OF COURSE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I TRULY HOPE THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO SOMEONE DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. FORD REALLY, REALLY NEEDS TO CONSIDER A RECALL, PUT MONEY ON IT THERE WILL BE MULTIPLE INCIDENTS IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. I HAVE ALSO HEARD THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND CHANGED THE PART NUMBER BUT ARE NOT RECALLING THE ORIGINAL PART.
THE STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OUT AS I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A CURVING DRIVING ABOUT 58-60 MPH. A CHIME SOUNDED AND THE ADVANCETRAC SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO MY DESTINATION WITHIN 7-8 MINUTES. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND LET IT SIT FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. I THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND DROVE HOME WITHOUT ANY INCIDENT. *TR
GOING AROUND A CURVE AT ABOUT 60 MPH, THE STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OUT. A CHIME SOUNDED AND THE ADVANCETRAC SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO MY DESTINATION WITHIN 7-8 MINUTES. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND LET IT SIT FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. I THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND DROVE HOME WITHOUT ANY INCIDENT.
I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY (I-70) EAST FROM ST. LOUIS, MO, TO DAYTON, OH. CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON AT 65 MPH, MODERATE/HEAVY TRAFFIC. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE WITHOUT WARNING, A "WRENCH" LIGHT AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND WHEN I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR, NOTHING HAPPENED. I PULLED OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER, AND THE CAR WAS SHUDDERING. I TURNED IT OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. IT SEEMED TO BE FINE, SO I GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY. THREE MILES LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I DID THE SAME THING, PULLED OVER/TURNED OFF CAR/RESTARTED, AND THE CAR WORKED OKAY ONCE I GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY. FOUR MILES LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME, I WAS BETWEEN TWO SEMI TRUCKS, AND WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY THE ONE BEHIND ME, WHICH WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN MY CAR BASICALLY BEING "CRUSHED" BETWEEN THE TWO TRACTOR TRAILERS. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER SAFELY TO CALL FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, AND AFTER HAVING TO TOW MY CAR TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY ADVISED ME IT WAS CAUSED BY FAILED THROTTLE BODY (DIAGNOSTIC CODE P2111). THE SERVICE AGENT THERE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE BY FORD (HE TOLD ME HE HAS SEEN THE SAME PROBLEM ON CLOSE TO 100 OTHER CARS), BUT THE COMPANY HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. I CAME VERY CLOSE TO BEING EITHER SERIOUSLY INJURED, OR EVEN KILLED, BECAUSE OF THIS. I TRULY HOPE THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE, KILLED (I KNOW THERE ARE REPORTS OF CRASHES AND INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM AS I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE).
I WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, MY CAR LOST POWER (ENGINE) WHILE TURNING ON A BUSY ROAD! I HAD TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND RESTART THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES JUST TO GET MY CHILDREN AND TO A SAFE LOCATION. I FINALLY PARKED THE CAR AND WE WALKED HOME. IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE AS WE WERE ALMOST HIT TURNING (WHEN IT FIRST WENT OUT). THE CAR WAS TOWED AND I AM BEING TOLD MY FORD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND MY PCM NEED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE ISSUE IS THE FACT THAT I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE CAR FEELING LIKE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING BUT WAS TOLD IT WAS ?NORMAL? FOR A FORD. NOW THAT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND ALMOST COST MY CHILDREN AND I OUR LIVES?IT?S NOT COVERED. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR 2 YEARS AND CALL FORD COMPANY. WELL, WHILE SPEAKING TO THEM I DO SOME RESEARCH AND SEE THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE AND DECIDED TO SEND AN EMAIL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. NOT TO MENTION COSTING US TO HAVE IT GET FIXED. FORD NOR MY DEALERSHIP DOES NOT HAVE ANY RECORDS OF MY COMPLAINTS. THE ONLY ONE THEY SEE IS FROM A MONTH AGO WHEN THE CAR FIRST STOPPED ON ME. I TRIED TO GET IT SEEN BUT NO DEALERSHIP HAD A TRANSMISSION CLERK THAT COULD SE MY CAR FOR A MONTH!!!! THEN WHEN I WENT TO TURN ON THE CAR TO CHECK THE MILES, THE ENGINE WAS OFF AND I WAS TOLD THE ERROR WOULD NOT READ. FORD IS NOT HELPFUL AND THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. *JB
CAR APPEARED TO HAVE LOST FUEL POWER WHILE DRIVING APPROX. 40 MILES PER HOUR. CAR JERKED AND SPEED REDUCED TO APPROX. 5 MILES AN HOUR. APPEARED TO NOT BE RECEIVING ANY FUEL EVEN WHEN THE PEDAL WAS BEING PUSHED. PULLED OVER, TURNED MOTOR OFF THEN RESTARTED. DROVE OKAY FOR ABOUT 5 MORE MINUTES THAN DID THE SAME THING AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THAT HAD THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD BEING WORKED ON. THE TIME WAS 5 AM AND IT WAS EXTREMELY FOGGY. VISIBILITY WAS POOR AND THE SCENARIO COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE, ALL THINGS CONSIDERED. REPEATED THE PROCESS AGAIN OF TURNING THE MOTOR OFF AND BACK ON, MAKING IT TO MY PLACE OF WORK THIS TIME WITHIN 5 MINUTES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP AFTER WORK (APPROX 8 MILES AWAY) WITHOUT INCIDENT ALTHOUGH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. TECHNICIAN CALLED NEXT DAY STATING THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED REPLACED AND HAD SEEN THIS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS LATELY WITH FORD VEHICLES. ALTHOUGH I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT I CAN SEE WHERE THIS ISSUE HAS POTENTIAL TO BE HARMFUL TO THE DRIVER AND OTHERS. I HOPE SOMETHING IS DONE SOON BEFORE SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS DOES HAPPENS. *JB
I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON A WELL TRAVELED, BUSY CITY HIGHWAY AND MY CAR TRANSMISSION DIED. THROUGH CAREFUL MANEUVERING I WAS ABLE TO PULL MY CAR OFF THE ROAD AND ONTO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT INCIDENT. I WAS ABLE TO POWER MY CAR COMPLETELY DOWN, TURN THE KEY AND THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY STARTED. I CAUTIOUSLY, OR SHOULD I SAY FEARFULLY, PROCEEDED UNTIL I WAS TO MY DESTINATION AND ANOTHER INCIDENT DID NOT OCCUR. I SPOKE TO A FORD CERTIFIED MECHANIC AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND HAD THEM TAKE A LOOK AT MY CAR. COME TO FIND OUT THE THROTTLE BOX WAS IN NEED OF BEING REPLACED. ALTHOUGH MY CAR HAD LOW MILES ON IT I DIDN'T THINK TOO MUCH OF IT BECAUSE MECHANICAL FAILURE DOES OCCUR, HOWEVER, I WAS TAKEN BACK BY THE FACT THAT THE PART WAS BACK ORDERED FOR THE NEXT 4 TO 6 WEEKS FROM MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. (I DID END UP PAYING EXTRA TO HAVE AN EMERGENCY RUSH PUT ON IT AS I RECENTLY HAVE BEEN DOING A LOT OF DRIVING FOR WORK AND HAVE A SMALL CHILD I NEED TO TRANSPORT AT TIMES) ONCE HOME I LOOKED INTO "FORD FUSION THROTTLE BOX" AND FOUND THAT MY EXPERIENCE WAS NOT UNLIKE MANY OTHERS. THE POTENTIAL DANGER THAT I, AND OTHERS, HAVE FACED BY DRIVING MAKES AND MODELS OF THE CARS WITH THESE THROTTLE BOXES IS SCARY. HAVING HAD AN EXPERIENCE LIKE I DID, I WAS LUCKY, IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE FORD'S LUCK RUNS OUT WITH THIS INFERIOR THROTTLE BOX EQUIPMENT.
TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 70MPH AND THE CAR STALLED. BROUGHT IT TO FORD AND THEY SAID THE THROTTLE BODY IS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. DRIVING THE 2011 FORD FUSION ON THE OPEN ROAD, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, THEN RESTARTED. THE ENGINE STARTED AND I ENTERED THE ROAD AGAIN. ABOUT 3 MILES LATER THE ENGINE DIED AGAIN, SUDDENLY. I HAD TO PULL OVER INTO A PARTIAL MEDIAN, IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE LIGHT THAT LOOKS LIKE A WRENCH. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC, WHERE THE CHECK ENGINE CODE WAS P2111 - THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. I SEE FROM RESEARCH, THAT THIS IS A MASSIVE ISSUE WITH FORD FUSIONS, AND YET FORD HAS NOT RECALLED THE VEHICLES. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER IS VERY DANGEROUS AND PLACED ME AND MY PASSENGERS IN IMMEDIATE DANGER. THE COST TO REPAIR IS $500! FORD SHOULD BE REPLACING THESE FOR FREE JUST TO KNOW THEY ARE NOT GOING TO KILL A CUSTOMER WITH A DANGEROUSLY FAULTY PRODUCT. *JB

I WAS ONE MINUTE AWAY FROM A MAJOR ARTERIAL STREET (50 MPH LIMIT) AND COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF THIS HAPPENED THERE!!*JB
I'VE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE LOSING ALL THROTTLE RESPONSE WHILE DRIVING, AND IT'S ALMOST CAUSED A FEW ACCIDENTS. IT THROWS TWO CODES, P2111 AND P2112. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY SAID THE THROTTLE BODY (9E926)-THE ENTIRE UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE FAULTY SUB-SYSTEM WITHIN THE UNIT IS SEALED AND CAN'T BE REPLACED INDIVIDUALLY. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THE ITEM IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND THERE ARE NO DATES OF RELEASE FOR THIS PART AS OF TODAY. *JS
NOTICED A LUG NUT WAS MISSING FROM MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE. ON CLOSER INSPECTION I SAW THAT THE WHEEL STUD WAS BROKEN OFF. I HAVE NEVER USED AIR TOOLS ON THE WHEEL AND THE LUGS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TORQUED TO MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATION (100 FT LBS). THERE IS A SIMILAR RECALL #11V574000 (FORD RECALL #11S23) ACTIVE, BUT IT DOES NOT LIST THE MANUFACTURING DATE OF MY VEHICLE IN THIS RECALL. *JS
THIS IS MY SECOND OCCURRENCE: I WAS DRIVING AT A LEVEL SPEED OF ABOUT 45 WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC (IN-CITY ROAD, SPEED LIMIT 45). WHEN I HEARD MY CAR SEEM TO SHIFT OUT OF GEAR, AND START STALLING AND SLOWING DOWN AND THE WRENCH ICON ON THE DASH WAS LIT UP. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE OF A FOUR-LANE STREET. I GOT TO QUICKEST UPCOMING SHOULDER, AND TURNED MY VEHICLE FULLY OFF AND BACK ON. THIS STOPPED MY CAR FROM STALLING AND SHAKING. IT SEEMS FORD IS FULLY AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND THE SAFETY HAZARDS IT CAUSES, YET CHOOSES TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAKE A LEFT TURN INTO CROSS STREET THE STEERING DID NOT RESPOND EASILY. CHECKED THE FRONT LEFT TIRE. IT HAD A BUBBLE AND IT BURST, THE TIRE DEFLATED AND THE CAR WAS RESTING ON THE RIM. THE TIRE COULD NOT BE PATCHED. I HAD TO ORDER A NEW TIRE (GOODYEAR EAGLE) *JS
I WAS DRIVING DOING 60-65 MPH IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I JUST LOST POWER. I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS NOTHING. THE ENGINE AND RADIO WERE STILL RUNNING AND THE LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH THAT LOOKED LIKE A WRENCH. I COASTED OFF THE ROAD AND STOPPED AND SHUT THE CAR OFF, WAITED A MINUTE OR SO AND RESTARTED THE CAR. I PROCEEDED DOWN THE FREEWAY AND WITHIN 10 MINUTES THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN (STILL IN THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE), THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON AFTER I RESTARTED THE CAR. MY HUSBAND, SON AND I WERE ON OUR WAY TO UTAH FROM IDAHO. IT DIDN'T DO IT AGAIN FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP SO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF BECAUSE IT RESET ITSELF. MY CAR IS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY AND I NEED A RELIABLE CAR MAYBE THE FUSION ISN'T AS RELIABLE AS THEY CLAIM IT IS. *JB

I WAS DRIVING ON MY WAY TO WORK, DRIVING ABOUT 55-60 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR JERKED AND THE THROTTLE WENT OFF AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. EVERYTHING STILL WORKED IN THE CAR BUT WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS, NOTHING HAPPENED. LUCKILY I WAS NEAR A TURN OFF AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST ONTO THE ROAD AND PULL OFF. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND BACK ON, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THEY KNEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND SAID THEY COULD ORDER THE PART BUT IT WOULD BE FEW DAYS. I MADE A COMPLAINT ON 8/25/13 ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. THEY CALLED BACK AND SAID IT WAS DEFINITELY THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT THE PART WOULD NOT BE IN FOR 4-6 WEEKS BECAUSE THE PART WAS BACK ORDERED DUE TO HIGH DEMAND. THERE ARE SO MANY CARS THAT NEED TO HAVE THIS REPLACED. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. I AM NOW WITHOUT A CAR BECAUSE I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT FOR FEAR I WILL GET HIT. THE NEXT DAY, AS WE WERE BEGINNING TO TAKE A TRIP, AFTER TURNING ONTO THE ON RAMP AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE TO GET ONTO THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE TURNED OFF AGAIN. FORTUNATELY WAS ABLE TO GET STOPPED BEFORE BEING HIT FROM BEHIND BY THE CARS CLOSELY BEHIND ME THAT WERE ACCELERATING TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY AS WELL OR BY THE FLOWING TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY ITSELF AS I ENTERED THE BUSY HIGHWAY, THUS ENDANGERING THE LIVES OF MY WHOLE FAMILY AND THOSE PERSONS OF THE VEHICLES THAT MAY HAVE COME IN CONTACT WITH MY VEHICLE. CRANKED CAR RIGHT BACK UP AND SLOWLY PROCEEDED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE MFI THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THIS IS FAILURE IS A DANGER TO EVERY FUSION DRIVER AND THEIR OCCUPANTS, AS WELL AS, ANYONE THAT IS DRIVING NEAR THEM THAT COULD HIT THEM IN THE REAR OR POSSIBLY HIT THEM IN THE DOOR KILLING THE DRIVER OR OCCUPANTS BECAUSE THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE THOUGH AN INTERSECTION OR ONTO A HIGHWAY. *TR
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD TODAY, AND UPON TAKING OFF AT A GREEN LIGHT, A WRENCH ICON CAME ON AND THE RPM STARTED FLUTTERING AND THE CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. SO I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A MINUTE AND TURNED THE CAR AND IT DID FINE. ABOUT FIVE MINUTES LATER, I WAS ON THE ENTER RAMP TO THE INTERSTATE AND IT DID IT AGAIN. PULLED OVER IN THE SHOULDER AND TURNED IT OFF AND ON AGAIN AND IT RAN OKAY.. AS SOON AS I HIT THE GAS, IT DID IT AGAIN. SO I TURNED IT OFF AND ON AGAIN AND MADE IT TO AN AUTOZONE TO HAVE THE ENGINE LIGHT READ (WHICH CAME ON AFTER THE THIRD OCCURRENCE.) ENGINE LIGHT READ P2111 AND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR WAS STUCK OPEN. CALLED MY DEALER AND THEY SAID THE WHOLE THROTTLE BODY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THEN I CALLED MY WARRANTY, AND THEY SAID ITS NOT COVERED. I'M EXTREMELY IRRITATED AT THIS SITUATION.. AND ONCE I GOOGLED IT, I NOTICED QUITE A FEW PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.. SO THERE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALL.. *TT
MY CAR HAD JUST OVER 52000 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AROUND 70 MPH WHEN MY CAR LOST THROTTLE CONTROL. IT FELT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION PULLED ITSELF OUT OF GEAR AND I WAS UNABLE ACCELERATE. I HAD VERY LITTLE CONTROL OVER MY CAR. WHEN THIS ISSUED OCCURRED THE "WRENCH" ICON ON THE DASHBOARD HAD TURNED ON. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER, AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK THE CAR BEGAN TO MILDLY JERKING. FRANTIC, I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE TO STOP THE JERKING. AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS, THE CAR WAS FINALLY CALM AND I ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE CAR. WHEN CAR WAS RESTARTED THERE WAS NO LONGER ANY JERKING COMING FROM THE VEHICLE, THE WRENCH ICON WAS GONE, AND I HAD CONTROL OF MY GAS PEDAL AGAIN.
CAR EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER DURING ACCELERATION FROM A STOP SIGN. LOST 99% OF POWER AND MISSED HEAVILY. NEARLY REAR-ENDED. PULLED OVER, TURNED CAR OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR. RAN FINE. DROVE APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES AND 25 MINUTES BEFORE PARKING THE CAR; PROBLEM DID NOT RECUR. DROVE APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES AND 30 MINUTES TO DEALERSHIP; PROBLEM DID NOT RECUR. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM THE SAME AS MANY OF THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE - THE THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR IS STICKING. $400 REPAIR. INFORMATION ONLINE INDICATES THAT THIS IS A NEW THROTTLE DESIGN BY FORD, SO IN ESSENCE, FORD IS EXPERIMENTING ON MY DIME. NOT ACCEPTABLE. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED, THE VEHICLE SLOWED AND STOPPED, REQUIRING ME TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE REMAINED RUNNING, BUT AT A VERY LOW RPM - APPLYING GAS DID NOTHING TO REV THE ENGINE. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT AND LIMP IT HOME. THE NEXT TIME I DROVE IT, APPROXIMATELY 3 DAYS LATER, IT ACTED SIMILARLY, THREATENING TO CUT OFF WHEN NOT APPLYING GAS. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WAS IMMEDIATELY TOLD THIS WAS PROBABLY A "THROTTLE BODY" PROBLEM. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THIS THE NEXT DAY AND PLACED AN ORDER FOR THE PART. THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER, I SUPPOSE DUE TO THE DEMAND FOR CORRECTION ON THIS PART. I LEFT THE VEHICLE WITH THE DEALER FOR THE 5-7 BUSINESS DAYS NEEDED TO GET THE PART AS I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE REPAIR. THANKFULLY IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE TRAC CONTROL AND POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY A COMPLETE LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ELECTRONIC STEERING GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN TO PLACE OF WORK. AS THE VEHICLE WAS ATTEMPTED TO BE TURNED RIGHT INTO DRIVEWAY THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED AND THE DRIVER NEARLY HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH WAS EXITING THE BUSINESS AND THE CURB. BRAKES WERE APPLIED SHARPLY AND EVERY BIT OF THE 120 LB FEMALE DRIVER'S STRENGTH WAS NEEDED TO MANUALLY STEER THE VEHICLE INTO THE PARKING LOT. THE CLUSTER DESPLAYED TWO ERROR MESSAGES; "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC." THIS WAS THE FOURTH OCCURENCE OF THIS TYPE WITH THIS VEHICLE. IN THE THREE PREVIOUS SITUATIONS WHEN THE KEY WAS CYCLED OFF AND BACK ON AFTER THE STEERING FAILED IT RETURNED TO OPERATION UPON RESTART. IN THIS OCCURENCE MULTIPLE KEY CYCLES WERE COMPLETED WITHOUT ANY CHANGE. DEALER CHARGE FOR REPAIR WAS OVER $1600. *TT

I WAS DRIVING AND NEEDED TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN I PROCEEDED TO MAKE THE RIGHT TURN BUT AS SOON AS I DID MY CAR LOST POWER AND A CAR TURNING BEHIND ME ALMOST RAN INTO THE BACK OF ME. I PULLED OVER PUT MY FLASHERS ON AND TURNED THE CAR OFF, I LET THE CAR SIT FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES BEFORE STARTING IT AGAIN. I GOT IT STARTED AND PUT IT IN DRIVE BUT AS SOON AS I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL SO I PUT IT BACK INTO PARK TURND THE CAR OFF AND TRIED AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL NOTHING HAPPENED. I EVENTUALLY GOT THE CAR BACK TO MY HOUSE. I WENT TO TRY DRIVING THE CAR TODAY (8/30/13) AND THE CAR DID THE EXACT SAME THING WHILE I WAS DRIVING, IT JUST LOST ALL POWER. I FEEL THAT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND FROM WHAT I READ ONLINE THIS IS HAPPENING A LOT.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE ON MY WAY TO WORK AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR JUST SHUT RIGHT DOWN. I PULLED OVER AND TRIED TO START IT BACK UP IT DID START UP AFTER A FEW MINUTES. MY CAR SHUT OFF WHILE AT A RED LIGHT WHEN TRYING TO GIVE IT GAS. RESTARTED AFTER A FEW TRIES. HAD THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR CHECKED AND BOTH WERE FINE. IT CONTINUED TO GIVE ISSUES AND FINALLY WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE GOING BETWEEN 1-10 MPH. TOOK IT TO FORD TO HAVE A TEST RAN ON IT, AND THEY SHOWED IT WAS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPAIRED. WE PURCHASED THE PART AND PAID FOR A REPAIR FOR THIS EVEN THOUGH 725,000 OTHER VEHICLES IN THE SAME MAKE HAVE BEEN HAVING THESE ISSUES. IT IS QUITE FRUSTRATING. *TR
