WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE ENGINE WILL GO INTO A VERY VIOLENT IDLE AND THE THROTTLE WILL BECOME UN-RESPONSIVE AND AN ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT WILL COME ON THE DASH. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW IN A WEEK AND IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS. YOU HAVE TO TRY AND NAVIGATE THROUGH TRAFFIC TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY WHILE COASTING ONLY SINCE YOU CAN'T GIVE IT ANY GAS. FORD HAS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE SINCE ITS EVERYWHERE ONLINE AND EVERYWHERE ON THIS WEBSITE. IT IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. FORD WON'T FIX IT UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH ITS A CRITICAL PART OF MAKING THE VEHICLE GO. *TR
DRIVING A 2011 FORD FUSION SEL AWD 3.0L 6-CYL TRAVELING APPROX. 65MPH ON INTERSTATE 88, VEHICLE SHUDDERED, WRENCH LIGHT LIT AND NO THROTTLE CONTROL. NO POWER. I NEARLY WAS REAR ENDED DUE TO SIGNIFICANT SPEED REDUCTION. RE-CYCLE OF THE ENGINE CAUSES THE LIGHT TO GO OUT AND YOU CAN CONTINUE ON YOUR DRIVE. AN IDENTICAL EVENT (SET OF SYMPTOMS) HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC TWO WEEKS EARLIER AT APPROX 20MPH AFTER LEAVING A STOP LIGHT. I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF ALL POWER IN TRAFFIC CAUSING MY CAR TO NEARLY BE STRUCK. WHEN RECYCLING THE ENGINE, THE CODE THAT CAUSES THE WRENCH LIGHT TO COME ON IS RE-SET AND FORD IS UNABLE TO DETECT THE ERROR AND REFUSES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THERE IS SIGNIFICANT EVIDENCE ON THE INTERNET THAT THESE SYMPTOMS ARE POINTING TO A FAILURE IN THE THROTTLE BODY (ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL). I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY BY FORD WHO NEEDS TO DIAGNOSE BY SYMPTOM AS WELL AS BY CODE. THEIR SOFTWARE DOES NOT PRESERVE A SAFETY CRITICAL CODE ACROSS VEHICLE RE-STARTS WHICH IS A MAJOR ISSUE IN MY OPINION. FORD WARRANTY DOES NOT WANT TO RECOGNIZE THE ISSUE OR REPLACE THE "THROTTLE BODY" WITHOUT A CODE BEING CAPTURED BUT THEIR SOFTWARE IS NOT DESIGNED TO PRESERVE THE CODE (CATCH 22). *TR
THE TRAC CONTROL ENGAGES SPORADICALLY AND CAR WILL NOT RESPOND. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY FORD. IF YOU PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC TO MERGE AND THIS HAPPENS IT WILL/COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
AT SOMETIME, AFTER CAR WAS SHUT OFF, THE DRIVER, PASSENGER WINDOWS AND SUN ROOF OPENED. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 62 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MERGE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO BE FUNCTIONING NORMALLY WHEN THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S DESTINATION AND WAS NOT TAKEN TO A MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 56,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE DEFROSTER FAILED CAUSING THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY TO BE BLOCKED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE REOCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
DRIVING NORMAL FOR AROUND AN HR THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN A LIGHTED WRENCH SHOWS ON DASH AND THE ACCELERATOR DOES NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY AND CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS VERY ROUGH AND LOW IDLE. POWER BRAKES AND POWER STEERING WORK FINE AND CAN PULL OVER BUT WAS IN A TURNAROUND FOR A HIGHWAY ACCESS RD. TURNED VEHICLE OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AGAIN AND IT WORKED OK. NEXT DAY IT HAPPENED TWICE, ONE OF THOSE TIMES JUST FROM THE START OF TURNING ON VEHICLE AND TRYING TO LEAVE PARKING LOT OF WORK, AND SECOND TIME WAS ON A 45MPH RD WHICH FELT DANGEROUS. SAME THING ACCELERATOR STOPPED WORKING AND IT COASTED DOWN TILL I COULD PUT IN PARK AND TURN OF VEHICLE AND TURN BACK ON. IT DOES NOT WORK IF YOU ARE COASTING AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND TURN OFF AND ON AS THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. AFRAID OF IT HAPPENING ON HIGHWAY. SEEMS LIKE A SOFTWARE OR SENSOR ISSUE WITH THROTTLE BODY AS WHEN YOU DO GIVE IT GAS ON THE PEDDLE IT FEELS LIKE THE THROTTLE PLATE IS BLOCKED OR TRYING TO OPEN UP BUT NOT ENOUGH TO GO JUST SMALL WEAK SPURTS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE ENGINE STALLED. A WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CAR STARTED LURCHING FORWARD AND WAS NEARLY HIT BY TWO OTHER VEHICLES FROM THE REAR. I WAS ABLE TO STOP. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND AFTER A FEW TRIES, THE CAR STARTED UP AGAIN. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST ANOTHER 20 TIMES SINCE THEN. I'VE SPOKEN WITH FORD OVER THE PHONE REPEATEDLY AND EXPLAINED THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS WEB SITES DISCUSSING THIS AS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. BUT FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND HAVE TOLD ME THAT THEY'RE NOT EVEN SURE IF IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. *TR
WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING LOSING POWER. SECONDS LATER IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND RESTART IT. THIS RESOLVED THE ISSUE TEMPORARILY BUT CAUSED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AND THE MECHANIC'S THOUGHT IS THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS 2,000 MILES PAST THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. SUCH AN UNSAFE SITUATION IS TERRIFYING AND FRUSTRATING, AS THE VEHICLE HAS UNDER 40,000 MILES ON IT. PLEASE ISSUE A MANDATORY RECALL!!!! *TR
WAS DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN ACCELERATION WAS LOST AND CAR STALLED. PULLED OVER AND TURNED CAR OFF. TURNED CAR BACK ON AND PRECEDED FOR 10 MINUTES WHEN THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME IN A MAJOR INTERSECTION. WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. TURNED CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND DROVE FOR A WHILE LONGER. INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN. TOOK CAR TO FORD DEALERSHIP. WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A BAD THROTTLE BODY AND IT WAS REPLACED. *TR

2ND INCIDENT W/ GAS PEDDLE STOPPING WORKING WHILE DRIVING W MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I PUT ON MY FLASHERS AND TURNED OFF IGNITION DUE TO BURNING SMELL COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD SHOULD NOTE EVERY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED I HAVE JUST PUT GAS IN MY CAR AS WELL, ALSO HAD TO HAVE A NEW BATTERY PUT ON MY 1YR AND 10 MONTH OLD CAR TODAY. RESTARTED THE CAR AND WAS ONLY LUCKILY 100YRDS OR LESS FROM MY DRIVEWAY SO WILL CALL AND HAVE CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AGAIN. CAR IS NOT SAFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY!!! *TR
FIRST AT ABOUT 42000 MILES IN OCTOBER 2012 THE DRIVER SEAT BECAME SO HOT IT CREATED 1ST DEGREE BURNS ON MY HUSBAND. THE SEAT HEATER WENT OUT SOON AFTER. NEEDS TO BE FIXED. THE SEAT COULD CAUSE A FIRE AT 55000 MILES THE DRIVER DOOR HANDLE BECAME UNLATCHED WITHIN THE DOOR AND STOPPED OPENING FROM THE INSIDE. WHAT IF I HAD A WRECK AND COULDN'T GET OUT? NEEDS TO BE RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE. I'VE HEARD IT'S COMMON ON THE FUSIONS. THE FRONT DOOR SPEAKERS WENT OUT SOON AFTER ALL OF THIS. AT 90000 MILES THE PASSENGER SEAT HEATER WENT OUT. SAME BURNING HOT THING BUT THIS TIME NO ONE WAS BURNED. AT 95000 MILES THE SAFETY SYSTEM HAS NOW GONE OUT. IT FLASHES THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR PARK AID AND A FAULT WITH THE CROSS TRAFFIC SYSTEM. I'VE READ THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SPEAKERS CAUSE THIS. THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SPEAKERS WENT OUT 2 YRS AGO. MAYBE THESE ARE CONNECTED. IT SEEMS THE WHOLE CAR HAS PROBLEMS WITH FUSES AND ELECTRICAL WIRES EITHER BURNING OUT WAY TOO QUICKLY. MY VEHICLE IS A 2011 MANUFACTURED IN OCTOBER OF 2010
LOST RPMS WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 65MPH. UNABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING, CAR WAS ONLY ABLE TO CRAWL AT ABOUT 3MPH. REQUIRED THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT.
POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT SEVERAL TIMES SINCE I FIRST BOUGHT THIS CAR. EACH TIME I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALER IN THE PAST THEY HAVE TOLD ME THEY WEREN'T WILLING TO LOOK AT IT WITHOUT A FAULT CODE ON THE DASH. TODAY (04/17/2015) I FINALLY MANAGED TO GET THEM TO LOOK AT THE CODE AND THEY ARE UNWILLING TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY DESPITE IT HAVING BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE. LOOKING IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM NOT JUST RELATED TO MY CAR, BUT A NUMBER OF THESE 2011 FUSIONS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S HOME AND WAS LATER TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,625 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,708. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE 41,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,010. ..UPDATED 12/11/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTIONED THE VEHICLE WOULD LOOSE POWER AND HE WOULD HAVE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND THEN RE-START IT. TODAY WAS THE FOURTH TIME MY ACCELERATOR FAILED TO WORK ON MY CAR. IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 65 AND AT LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALER TELLS ME IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO TELL ME IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. FORD MOTOR REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL THE DEALER CAN REPRODUCE THIS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM OR ITS COMPUTER SYSTEMS CONFIRMS A PROBLEM. NEITHER COULD BE DONE WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE INTERNET DEMONSTRATES OTHERS WITH THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I AM WORRIED THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL REOCCUR IN AN INOPPORTUNE TIME CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND INJURY. WHEN IT OCCURS, THE ACCELERATOR STOPS WORKING, BUT THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING. A WRENCH LIGHT APPEARS ON THE DASH. I AM ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP, BUT MUST PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART THE CAR FOR THE PROBLEM TO TEMPORARILY RESOLVE. BACKGROUND: I AM A MEMBER OF THE US MILITARY STATIONED OVERSEAS, SO IT'S A LITTLE HARDER TO DO MAINTENANCE ON VEHICLES.... I PURCHASED A FORD FUSION LAST YEAR UNDERSTANDING IT WAS A VEHICLE I WOULDN'T HAVE TO DO MUCH MAINTENANCE ON FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS BESIDES THE BASIC OIL, COOLANT, BRAKE FLUID, AND FILTER CHECKS. FOR THE LAST YEAR IT HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL YESTERDAY. I WAS DRIVING HOME AND CAME TO A BUSY INTERSECTION WHERE I HAD TO TURN LEFT FROM A STOP. 1 1/2 SECONDS INTO THE TURN (ABOUT 6 MPH) MY THROTTLE CUT OFF, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS COASTING ABOUT 4 MPH THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC... NOT AN EXPERIENCE YOU WANT TO HAVE IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY. I GOT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, PULLED OVER AND NOTICED MY ENGINE WAS WAVERING IN RPM'S FROM AROUND 1000-2500. I TURNED OFF MY CAR, WAITED ABOUT 2 MINUTES AND TURNED IT BACK ON TO NOTICE IT DIDN'T TURN OVER LIKE THE OTHER HUNDREDS OF OTHER TIMES IT DID IN THE PAST YEAR. IT TOOK ABOUT 6-7 SECONDS OF THE ENGINE CRANKING TO GET IT TO RUN. I TOOK IT HOME AND IT SAT OVERNIGHT IN MY CARPORT. TODAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT A 4 WAY STOP. I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW IF FORD IS GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE POSTS AND A TON OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. NOW IT SEEMS I NEED TO REPLACE MY THROTTLE BODY WHICH IS NOT GOING TO BE CHEAP. THERE COMES A TIME WHERE THE DEALER NEEDS TO STEP IN, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS PUTTING PEOPLE AT RISK..... *TR
MADE 10 MI TRIP TO SCHOOL. 1/2 - 1 HR LATER, MADE 1/2 MI TRIP TO STORE. ON RETURN TO SCHOOL ON HIGHWAY LOST THROTTLE RESPONSE UNTIL CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. (WRENCH LIGHT ON DASH DISPLAYED.) 2 HRS LATER, LOST THROTTLE RESPONSE WHEN TURNING ONTO HIGHWAY FROM SCHOOL. CAR RESPONDED AS NORMAL AFTER RESTART. FORD DEALERSHIP REPLACED ETB, A71, GASKET, AND THROTTLE BODY. CAR HAS RETURNED TO NORMAL FUNCTION. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD/JERKS BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR FREQUENTLY. IT ALSO SHIFTS HARD/JERKS WHEN LOWERING SPEED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC SITUATIONS. *TR
CAR WAS HESITATING AND SHIFTING ROUGHLY. FORD DEALERSHIP PERFORMED TSB 11-9-9 TO RESET POWER CONTROL MODULE. ON 10/19/12 CAR DIED WITH NO WARNING WHILE DRIVING MY SON TO SCHOOL. PART #DS7Z 9E926 A THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. ON 11/12/12 TOOK CAR IN BECAUSE IT WAS STILL SHIFTING ROUGH AND HESITATING. FORD COULDN'T VERIFY MY CONCERN AND HAD NO CODES SO THEY DID NOTHING. ON 02/07/13 MY CAR DIED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. FORD REPLACED PART #DS7Z 9E926 A THROTTLE BODY AGAIN. THE CAR IS STILL SHIFTING ROUGH AND NOT RIGHT. FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THE CONCERN IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. IT IS TERRIFYING TO BE DRIVING AND TO LOSE ALL POWER AND ACCELERATION. *TR
WHILE ENTERING INTERSTATE 275 SOUTH ON RAMP IN TAMPA, FL MY CAR ABRUPTLY STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE GAS PEDAL AND THE LITTLE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. ALL I COULD DO IS COAST TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ONCE MY SPEED SLOWED TO AROUND 5 TO 10 MILES PER HOUR, THE CAR BEGAN TO JERK AND SHAKE. I PUT IT IN PARK, TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND IT WORKED LIKE NORMAL FOR ABOUT ANOTHER MONTH OR SO UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS TURNING RIGHT ON RED ON A MAJOR 5 LINE STREET. SINCE THEN IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 20 TIMES AND HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY MORE FREQUENT. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE WEB, IT SEEMS HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I MEAN EXACTLY IN EVERY WAY EXCEPT FOR THE SPEEDS AND LOCATIONS. THE OLDEST MODEL THAT I RECALL SEEING THIS PROBLEM DESCRIBED ABOUT ONLINE IS A 2010 WITH ONLY 15000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE, THAT IN MY OPINION, NEEDS TO BE FIXED. IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE TO MY WIFE ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS. SO I TOOK THE CAR OUT AND DROVE IT AROUND AND WAS COMING BACK HOME AND AFTER TURNING ONTO OUR RODE AND GOT UP TO 45 MPH THE WRENCH LIGHT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND LOSS ALL POWER. STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THERE WAS NOTHING. ROLLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND PUT IN PARK AND WAITED FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND RESTARTED IT. WENT ABOUT ANOTHER 300 YARDS AND IT DID IT AGAIN. DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FORD HAS BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE FUSION AND THERE OTHER CARS LIKE THE ESCAPE. THEY ALL CAME DOWN TO THE THROTTLE BODY BEING BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. BUT MY QUESTION IS IF THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR AWHILE WHY HASN'T FORD OR SOMEONE PUT A RECALL ON THESE THROTTLE BODY'S. BEGINNING ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2012 RIGHT UP UNTIL THIS MORNING, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH, THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2011 FORD FUSION HAS LOCKED UP SIX TIMES. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED ON MONDAY 9/10/2012 AS I WAS ABOUT TO TURN A CORNER AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. AS I WAS ABOUT TO TURN, BELLS AND WHISTLES WENT OFF, MY POWER STEERING FAILED AND A MESSAGE ON MY DASH BOARD READ "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" AND "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE." THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER - BASICALLY LOCKED UP. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER TO WHERE I COULD TURN MY CAR OFF, TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION AND RESTART IT TO UNLOCK THE STEERING. SINCE THEN, (3 DAYS LATER) THIS HAS OCCURRED ANOTHER FIVE TIMES. NOT ALL INSTANCES HAVE BEEN WHILE TURNING A CORNER AND IT HAPPENS AT RANDOM SPEED. THE ONLY WAY I CAN UNLOCK THE STEERING IS BY SHUTTING THE CAR OFF, TAKING THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION AND TOTALLY RESTARTING IT. WHILE DRIVING IN THE CENTER LANE ON THE SOUTHBOUND I-5 FREEWAY MY 2011 FORD FUSION BEGAN TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS DRIVING THROUGH MUD AND LOST ACCELERATION. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO COMPENSATE BY ACCELERATING THE CAR, IT RESISTED AND CONTINUED TO SLOW SIGNIFICANTLY. THANKFULLY TRAFFIC WAS NOT EXTREMELY HEAVY AT THE TIME AND I WAS CLOSE TO A FREEWAY EXIT. I PULLED TO THE RIGHT, AVOIDING ONCOMING TRAFFIC (BARELY) AND COASTED DOWN THE OFF RAMP. BY THE TIME I GOT TO THE OFF RAMP (ABOUT 10 SECONDS) THE CAR HAD GONE FROM 65 MPH TO LESS THAN 5 MPH. IF IT WASN'T FOR THE MOMENTUM OF THE VEHICLE I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE IT AND WOULD HAVE BEEN AT A DEAD STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC (AND SEMI TRUCKS) GOING BETWEEN 60 AND 75 MPH. THE ENGINE WAS THROBBING, THE CAR WAS SHAKING, AND I HAD NO ACCELERATION CAPABILITY AT ALL. I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM ON THE OFF RAMP DOWNSLOPE TO TURN RIGHT AND STOP MY VEHICLE AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. I WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE WAS THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. HAD TIMING NOT BEEN EXACTLY RIGHT, THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY SERIOUS OR EVEN DEADLY ACCIDENT FOR ME AND FOR OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED ABOUT THIS ONGOING ISSUE ONLINE AND WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN AT THE TIME THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM AND KNOWN HOW / THAT I COULD SUBMIT A CONCERN TO THE NHTSA.

WHILE DRIVING ~55MPH IN LEFT LANE OF A 3-LANE INTERSTATE AT MORNING RUSH HOUR, THE ENGINE LOST POWER, CONTINUED RUNNING AT ~1000RPM, BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE AND WRENCH LIGHTS WERE ON. THE CAR WAS NEARLY HIT BY NUMEROUS VEHICLES AS I COASTED TO THE EMERGENCY LANE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE EXPRESSWAY. THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF, THEN RESTARTED, AND IT WAS OK FOR SEVERAL MILES. THE SAME SCENARIO WAS REPEATED TWICE WHILE DRIVING TO A NEARBY DEALER. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $650 SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. SERVICE PERSONNEL TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD SEEN SEVERAL OF THESE SAME PROBLEMS ON FUSIONS. THIS ONE DEALER IS MOST LIKELY REPRESENTATIVE OF OTHERS, SO THERE MUST BE A VERY LARGE NUMBER OF THESE PROBLEMS OCCURRING IN NEARLY NEW VEHICLES. I GOT THE CAR TO A DEALER TODAY AND THE PROBLEM CAN'T BE REPAIRED. THE STEERING COLUMN MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE CAR AS THE DEALER IS NOT ALLOWED TO REPAIR THE ELECTRONICS. I THOUGHT THIS WAS A MINOR PROBLEM WITH A SENSOR RECEIVING THE WRONG SIGNAL BUT FORD HAS TURNED IT INTO A MAJOR REPAIR JOB. IF THIS PROBLEM IS SOMETHING THAT COULD HAPPEN TO ANY FUSION IT COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS AS THE CAR IS VERY HARD TO STEER. THE DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND HE WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. HE FORCED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND IT RELEASED AND SWERVED SEVERELY THEN SEEMED TO OPERATE CORRECTLY FOR THE REMAINDER OF HIS TRIP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE CONTROL UNIT. THE VEHICLE HAS SINCE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM MULTIPLE TIMES WITH DIFFERENT DRIVERS. IT HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE. BOTH TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THERE ARE TIMES WHERE IT WILL DIE ON ME A DOZEN TIMES IN A 10 MILE DRIVE. 1ST TIME ENGINE @ 60 MPH JUST SHUT DOWN, CAME TO STOP, RESTARTED AND THOUGHT ALL OK, THINKING MAYBE BAD GAS. 2ND TIME WIFE DRIVING, WHILE MAKING TURN IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC ENGINE JUST QUIT AGAIN, CAME TO STOP AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART. NEXT DAY DECIDED TO TRY TO DRIVE TO DEALER. ENGINE QUIT 3 MORE TIMES WHILE DRIVING TO LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT EVEN LOOK AT IT FOR 6 DAYS. DROVE HOME, ENGINE STOPPED ONE MORE TIME. I FINALLY I HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER 30 MILES AWAY. GOOD NEWS: THEY QUICKLY DIAGNOSED AS A THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY BAD NEWS IT WOULD TAKE 3-4 WEEKS FOR THEM TO OBTAIN PART AS SO MANY, MANY FORDS WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM..I HAD TO RENT A VEHICLE ..VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND THIS SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE A RECALL FROM FORD. I HAVE GOTTEN NO WHERE WITH THE DEALER OR SO CALLED "CUSTOMER SERVICE"..I WAS TOLD BY THE 800 CS DEPT THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. I GO ON-LINE AND FIND HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. I WANT REIMBURSEMENT (I HAVE ALL MY OUT OF POCKETS COSTS AND RECEIPTS) AND A FORMAL APOLOGY. *JS
VEHICLE LOST POWER. TROUBLE LIGHT WAS A WRENCH. TURNED IGNITION OFF AND RESTARTED OK. THE NEXT DAY THE SAME THING HAPPENED. ODDLY BOTH TIMES THIS OCCURRED AFTER MAKING A RIGHT TURN. *TR
TRAVELING AT FREEWAY SPEED, ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND REVERTED TO IDLE RPM. ENGINE WAS IDLING ROUGHLY, AND PRESSING ON ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT INCREASE RPMS. THE "WRENCH" (CHECK ENGINE) LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. WAS ABLE TO COAST DOWNHILL TO EXIT FREEWAY; VERY UNSAFE CONDITION. SWITCHED OFF ENGINE, RESTARTED ENGINE ... AND IT RAN NORMAL; "WRENCH" LIGHT EXTINGUISHED. TOOK CAR TO WALNUT CREEK FORD FOLLOWING MORNING; THEY SAID NO FAULT CODE WAS RECORDED ON THE CARS COMPUTER AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM. SERVICE REP TOLD ME FORD HAD NO RECORDS OF ANY PREVIOUS PROBLEMS OF THIS NATURE, SO I SHOULD JUST KEEP DRIVING THE CAR. I TOLD HIM THAT WAS UNSAFE, AND HE REPLIED THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE HE COULD DO. HE SAID HE "COULD NOT JUST THROW PARTS AT AN UNKNOWN PROBLEM"'. SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED ON NOV 01, 2012. I DID AN ON-LINE SEARCH ON VARIOUS FORD FUSION FORUMS AND FOUND MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS SAME SITUATION WITH V6 ENGINE ATTRIBUTED TO THROTTLE BODY HOUSING. IMMEDIATELY TOOK CAR TO WALNUT CREEK FORD AND TOLD SERVICE MANAGER I WOULD NOT ACCEPT THE CAR UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED. SHOWED HIM COPIES OF MULTIPLE ON-LINE REPORTS OF SAME PROBLEM AND TOLD HIM HIS REP HAD LIED DURING MY PREVIOUS VISIT ABOUT FORD NOT KNOWING OF ANY PREVIOUS REPORTED PROBLEMS. SERVICE MANAGER REPLIED THAT "ON-LINE REPORTS ARE NOT ALWAYS REAL", BUT SAID HE WOULD HAVE HIS BEST MECHANIC CHECK MY CAR. MECHANIC FOUND DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY HOUSING AND REPLACED. HAVE NOT HAD RECURRENCE OF THE ENGINE FAILURE. *TR
