TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, WHEN SUDDENLY THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT HAD THEIR HUSBAND CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER, THE STEERING HAD TURNED TO MANUAL STEERING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V340000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO FORD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEIR VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING RACK QUIT WORKING WHILE DRIVING AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, CHECKED VIN BUT NO RECALLS, FORD DID HAVE A LOT OF RECALLS FOR SAME MODEL, BUT NONE ISSUED FOR THIS CAR. DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR OTHER CARS OUT THERE WITHOUT A RECALL. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL ALL CARS WITH THAT ELECTRIC POWER STEERING UNIT!!!!
WENT TO STORE WHEN I GOT BACK IN CAR THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THEN IT SAID SERVICE . WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING.
Transmission shuddering, 1st to 2nd gear shifts shake the entire vehicle, especially when cold. Abbrupt downshift. Gear searching from 5th to 6th when highway driving.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE, THE POWER STEERING HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECT. THE MESSAGE "POWER STEERING ASSIST" HAD ALSO DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER FAIR OAKS FORD LOCATED AT 2055 W OGDEN AVE, NAPERVILLE, IL 60540 WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 15V340000(STEERING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,500.
THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED ON THIS VEHICLE 4 TIMES IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. IN EVERY CASE, IT FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THREE TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY AND ONCE IN LOCAL TRAFFIC. WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILS, IT TAKES AN ENORMOUS EFFORT/STRENGTH TO MAKE A TURN, CHANGE LANES, OR PARK. TWO OF THE TIMES THE POWER STEERING FAILED, THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO CLEAR THE CODES AND THE POWER STEERING WAS RESTORED. THE OTHER TWO TIMES REQUIRED EXPENSIVE REPAIRS. ONE (OCTOBER 2020) WAS FOR ALMOST $1700 AND REPLACED THE CONTROL RODS AND TIE RODS. THIS RESTORED THE POWER STEERING FOR TWO MONTHS, THEN IT WENT OUT AGAIN. RESETTING THE CODES WORKED FOR TWO DAYS, BUT THEN THE STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. THE RACK AND PINION AND CONTROL BOARD WERE REPLACED IN FEBRUARY 2021 AT A COST OF JUST UNDER $2000. LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHEN UNDERWAY IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR CARS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL, AND THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL AFFECTING SOME 393,000 VEHICLES, BUT NOT ALL VINS. THOUGH MY ISSUE IS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL, FORD MAINTAINS THAT MY CAR IS NOT COVERED. CHECKING ONLINE, I SEE THAT MANY OTHERS ARE IN THE SAME SITUATION. THEIR FUSION HAS EXACTLY THE SAME POWER STEERING ISSUE AS THE RECALL, BUT FORD SAYS THEIR VIN IS NOT ONE OF THOSE RECALLED. IT IS CLEAR THAT A LARGER NUMBER OF VEHICLES WERE AFFECTED THAN FIRST BELIEVED, AND ALL THOSE AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
THE ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSIST SYSTEM FAILED GOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. THE SYSTEM REVERTED TO MANUAL STEERING MODE.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V340000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 114,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN MY 2012 FORD FUSION AND THE POWER STEERING STOPPED FUNCTIONING AND THE STEERING BECAME SO STIFF AND I COULD NOT MAKE THE TURN ONTO A STREET AND I NEARLY HIT THE VEHICLE COMING IN OTHER LANE ON THE STREET I WAS TRYING TO TURN ON.....THANK GOD I DIDNT CRASH I TO THE OTHER VEHICLE.... THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SERVICE TRAK, POWER STEERING, AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED ON INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT CALLED PAUL MILLER FORD (975 E NEW CIRCLE RD, LEXINGTON, KY 40505) AND WAS INFORMED THAT VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V340000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT HER VEHICLE NEEDED AN OEM SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE MECHANIC ALSO INFORMED HER THAT THE RACK AND PINION AND THE TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000.
POWER STEERING INTERMITTENLY FAILS WITH NO WARNING. SOMETIMES IT RESETS ITSELF BUT HAS NOT, NOW, FOR THE PAST WEEK.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. PECHELES FORD LOCATED AT 4010 US-264, WASHINGTON, NC 27889, WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,100.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME AND WHEN SHE PULLED INTO OUR DRIVEWAY THE POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING WITH THE INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAYING "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" AND "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THE FORD RECALL 15S18 (NHTSA 15V340000), WHICH FOR SOME REASON DOES NOT APPEAR TO INCLUDE MY DAUGHTER'S VEHICLE DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE RECALL SUMMARY DESCRIBES EXACTLY WHAT OCCURRED WITH THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THE STEERING SYSTEM THANKFULLY SHE WAS NOT TRAVELLING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN THIS OCCURRED.
THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND THE VEHICLE CUTS OFF IT WILL START BACK UP BUT IT'S RANDOM AND CUTS OFF ANYTIME IT WANTS. IT'S DONE THIS WHILE PARKED AND MOVING. THROTTLE BODY EXTENDED WARRANTY. MY CAR IS UNDER THE 150,000 MILES AND MET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS TO BE REPLACED AND I TOOK IT TO RAVENEL FORD RAVENEL SC AND WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T GET THAT CODE THAT THEY WE'RE ALLOWED TO FIX IT
HEATED DRIVERS SEAT GOT TOO HOT TO SIT IN AND NOW THE HEATING ELEMENT IS NOT WORKING THE SWITCH WILL COME ON FOR A FEW SECOND THEN SHUT OFF. THE FIX IS $600 REPLACING ELEMENTS ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC "THIS IS VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE" THE HEATING UP OF THE SEAT WAS A HUGE CONCERN BUT NOW SEAT DOES NOT HEAT . PLEASE HELP
Unknown Front driver side tire came off the car causing the vehicle to crash into a wall passenger side airbag malfunction Thankfully my girlfriend had the seat all the way to the back and was laying down when the accident occurred. Idk what would've happened if she seating down correctly. The car was unrepairible.
2012 FORD FUSION LOST TRACTION CONTROL AND NOW LOST ALL POWER STEERING. DASH STATES POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. USUALLY IF I TURN CAR OFF THEN BACK ON IT WILL GIVE POWER STEERING BACK. TODAY I DID THAT ABOUT TEN TIMES AND IT STILL WOULDN'T GIVE STEERING BACK. MY CAR WAS STATIONARY BUT DRIVEN HOME WITHOUT POWER STEERING VERY CAREFULLY.
WENT TO BACK CAR OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE CAME ON SAYING TO 'SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW'.

The vehicle was restarted and worked as designed. While driving approximately 30-40 MPH, the brake warning light illuminated. Additionally, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The driver pumped the brake pedal several times before the brakes started working as designed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who informed him that the failure was not covered under the warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. I WAS GETTING GAS AND I CUT MY CAR OFF WHEN I GOT BACK INTO MY CAR IT DID NOT START. I CONTINUED TO START IT. CAR WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
STARTED VEHICLE, POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE DISPLAYED ON DASH. VEHICLE LOCKED UP AND WAS UNABLE TO TURN WHEEL. HAPPENED WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY.
INTERMITTENT FAILING POWER ELECTRICAL ASSIST STEERING BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT SOME TIMES TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON FIXES THE PROBLEM TEMP
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE WARNING CAME ACROSS TO SERVICE ADVANCE TEAK SYSTEM AND POWER STEERING. WITHIN A COUPLE OF MINUTES MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE RAN CODES THAT MATCHED WITH A RECALL ON 2012 FUSIONS AND SUGGESTED I HAVE THE NEAREST FORD GARAGE LOOK AT IT. THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT THE RECALL DID NOT COVER MY VIN NUMBER. NOW I AM OUT $1600 ON A PROBLEM THAT IS KNOWN BY FORD BUT THEY WILL NOT COVER IT. DOING RESEARCH IT APPEARS THIS IS BECOMING A VERY BIG PROBLEM AND I THINK THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED.
I WAS BEGINNING TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WITH MY TWO YOUNG KIDS IN THE CAR AFTER VISITING THE DOLLAR STORE WHEN MY CAR FROZE UP I LOOKED AT THE DASHBOARD IT SAID POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED OR SIMILAR TO THOSE WORDS. I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND I TURNED MY CAR OFF TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE SAME MESSAGE CAME ACROSS THE DASHBOARD. I PULLED FORWARD TO THE SPOT IN FRONT OF ME AND I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL. I HAD A FAMILY FRIEND DRIVE IT DOWN THE STREET TO MY HOME. NO LEAKAGE OF FLUID PRESENT.

THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 18 MONTH.

The driver side door handle suddenly failed to open the door from the interior. In order to exit the vehicle, the window has to be rolled down and the external handle needs to be utilized
WHEN I WAS PREPARING TO EXIT MY VEHICLE AT A CONSTRUCTION ROADWAY (I WAS LOST) MY DRIVERS' DOOR HANDLE WOULD NOT OPEN- IT FLOPPED. I COULD NOT EXIT. AFTER THAT I WENT HOME AND WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE THE DOOR- IT WOULD NOT LATCH/NOR CLOSE- ONCE AGAIN I CALLED FOR HELP AND WAS TOLD TO TIE THE DOOR CLOSE THRU THE WINDOWS. WHICH MEANT MY DOOR WAS VUNABLE TO THEFT AND WEATHER. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE FORD DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS "A COMMON PROBLEM WITH OLDER MODELS"(MINE IS A 2012!).PER THE DEALER IT REQUIRES A DOOR LOCK PART. WHAT IT TELLS ME IS THE SAFETY FEATURES ON "OLDER MODELS" EXPIRE WITH THE WARRANTIES! BUT THIS IS WHY I PURCHASED A FORD!! HAD I KNOW THE "SAFETY FEATURES" EXPIRE WITH THE WARRANTY, I WOULD HAVE RESEARCHED WHICH VEHICLE HAS THE BEST & LONGEST "SAFETY FEATURES"! I NOW FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE DUE TO MY INABILITIES TO EXIT IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY DUE TO FAULTY/EXPIRED "SAFETY FEATURES!" IT MAKES ME FEEL I WOULD BE TRAPPED WITHOUT A WAY OUT! POWER STEERING FAULT LIGHT CAME ON IN THE VEHICLE. I NOTICED THAT THERE ARE RECALLS FOR THIS WITH FORD FUSION MODELS STARTING IN 2013.
DRIVING HOME FROM WORK TONIGHT AND A MILE DOWN THE ROAD AN ALARM WENT OFF, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND NOTIFICATION SHOWED UP THAT SAID SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW ADVANCETRAC. I MADE IT DOWN THE ROAD TO A FRIENDS HOUSE FINE AND WHEN I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND ON AGAIN, I WAS SUDDENLY UNABLE TO MOVE MY STEERING WHEEL. I LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE WHEN THIS HAPPENED BUT I AM SEEING OTHERS THAT HAVE HAD VERY BAD STORIES. THIS IS A REOCCURRING ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED! I STILL HAVE TO CALL FORD AND SEE IF MY VEHICLE IS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND I AM WORRIED BECAUSE I AM SEEING TOO MANY STORIES OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME STORY AS MINE NOT BEING COVERED! NOT GOOD! I GOT THIS 2012 FORD FUSION SE FOR DAUGHTER AND YESTERDAY, SHE CALLED ME TO TELL ME THAT THE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" SHOWED UP ON HER DASH. AS SHE WAS ABOUT TO TRY TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, SHE COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. SHE HAD TO MISS SCHOOL AND WORK, DUE TO THE ISSUE, BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT HER TO TAKE ANY CHANCES. WHEN I GOT HOME AFTER WORK, TO MOVE IT INTO THE GARAGE, TO CHECK IT OUT, THE DASH CODE WENT AWAY AND IT APPEARED TO BE FINE. AFTER DOING RESEARCH AND CALLING THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY FOUND A RECALL FROM 2015 THAT DESCRIBES THIS SAME ISSUE IN 2011-2012 FORD FUSIONS BUT FOR SOME REASON MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED, IT SEEMS THAT IT'S THE SAME PART AND ISSUE, THAT COULD/SHOULD INCLUDE MORE VEHICLES. FROM WHAT I'VE BEEN READING AND SEEING, THIS SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY, BUT ACTUALLY SEEING THAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN GETTING INTO COLLISIONS, WITH THE INTERMITTENT COMPUTER GLITCHING OF THE STEERING ISSUE. IT'S JUST A GOOD THING THAT MY DAUGHTER WAS JUST ATTEMPTING TO BACK OUT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I SEE THAT OTHERS HAVE NOT BEEN SO LUCKY. I PRAY THAT FORD RECALLS THIS AND DOES THE RIGHT THING PRIOR TO ANY SERIOUS INJURIES AND/OR DEATHS, TO AVOID HEAVY LAW SUITS AND TRAJEDY. THIS WAS A ISSUE WITH THESE CARS AND APPEARS TO BE GROWING BY THE NUMBERS AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE AT THIS POINT. DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ALL THSYMPTOMS THAT OCCUR AS DESCRIBED IN YOUR CAMPAIGN INVOLVING FORD RECALL NO. 19S54 AND SPECIFICALLY EA18-002. THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS EXCESSIVE TRAVEL BEFORE ENGAGING THE BRAKES. THIS SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASES BRAKING TIME. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR MISSES, ALMOST RESULTING IN ACCIDENTS.

OCCASIONALLY MY ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST WOULD FAIL AND A WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND I WOULD HAVE NO POWER STEERING. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT, THE ISSUE WOULD NOT COME UP. BUT NOW MY POWER STEERING HAS FAILED AND WILL NOT COME BACK. FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE.

THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOUND A RECALL FROM 2015 THAT DESCRIBES THIS SAME ISSUE IN 2011-2012 FORD FUSIONS BUT FOR SOME REASON MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED, MAYBE BY MISTAKE SEEMS HOW IT'S THE SAME PART THAT FORD KNEW WAS CAUSING PROBLEMS. IT'S JUST A GOOD THING THAT I DIDN'T HIT SOMEONE AND KILL THEM WITH FORD KNOWING THIS WAS A ISSUE WITH THESE CARS AND DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
