NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2015 Ford Fusion. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
While attempting to pull out of a parking space, the electric power steering was not functioning properly and it was very difficult to turn the wheel. Warning lights were illuminated for "Hill Start Assist Not Available", "Service AdvanceTrac", and "Steering Assist Fault Service Required". The vehicle was undrivable and this could have been dangerous had this failed while driving. The vehicle was towed to a dealership, which replaced "faulty steering rack and rusted clamp" in addition to corresponding bolts. The car's mileage was 49,466. This appears to be the same problem as NHTSA complaints #11569485, #11569595, and others. Similarly, this failure seems related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering), which applies to other 2015 Ford Fusions, but not this specific VIN for unclear reasons. Ford was notified of the failure but said the only recourse was to file a complaint with the NHTSA.
My vehicle began having low coolant, smoking from tail pipe, running erratically, and numerous codes including ( P-300 codes). My only transportation and before I made it home the engine turned off completely and did not crank or turn over at all.. I felt the engine was about to catch on fire and so I got out and called family member for a tow and ride home. My car has been sitting in the driveway for at least 2 months. Im a veteran, and making it to doctors appointments is a big issue.
Was driving g on the freeway and car began shaking about 1mile later rhe car would not go past 10 miles an hr without making a loud noise everything was upkept with my car ontop of all recalls and now I have a car that I had to finish paying off without being able to drive it for almost 2 years and can't seem to fund a solution on either the dealer fixing the power train or giving me a refund
Rear view camera is not functioning. The screen goes black or a message is show to contact dealership. No sensors work nor a view of what is behind me. There are times I almost hit people or other vehicles. There are recalls for other vehicles but not my vehicle. There was no inspection but dealership will not fix it. Itsstarted 2 years ago out of no where. Please help!
We notice antifreeze was disappearing at a very fast rate without a sign of a leak found out it was leaking in the engine

The steering wheel locked while driving the vehicle and warning lights immediately came on advising "Hillstart Assist Not Available" and "Service AdvanceTrac" leaving the vehicle undrivable and in a dangerous position. The steering wheel then began making mechanical whirring sounds and jerking left and right on its own. There were no warning lights or signs prior to this issue happening while driving, the issue was confirmed by the two truck driver who rescued the vehicle as well as the mechanic who tried to fix the car. Mechanic advises this car has a recall for this issue for vehicle's year, make and model, and state, but Ford says it does not apply to the vehicle. Mechanic disagrees and believes this to be a gross safety issue.
My steering wheel locked up and was unable to move there was a recall 15V250000 that was allegedly completed by colonial ford in Danbury ct sometime in 08/2015. However the bolts have snapped and it is now at a dealership sunshine ford in Newburgh ny they stated the recall was never fixed and it is becoming an issue and could be a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 40-45 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality, and the steering wheel locked. The message “Steering Locked. Stop Safely” was displayed. The contact exited the highway, and the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound and decelerated independently. Additionally, the steering wheel shuddered significantly. The contact drove to a parking lot and parked the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering suspension and the steering column were locked. The dealer determined that the steering gear needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
Power steering goes out while driving. Usually the colder it is the more frequent. 5 instances of power steering loss. Warning lights about steering loss on dash come on. 1 trip to dealer found nothing wrong. Will start working again hours or up to a day later.
My steering gear motor attachment bolts have fractured due to severe corrosion, which is the exact defect described in Safety Recall 19S26. This physical failure was confirmed by a Ford dealership technician on 1/11/2024. The technician documented the fractured bolts and recommended a full steering gear replacement. Despite this, Ford is denying the recall repair because this specific VIN was not included on the original mailing list. The vehicle is now undrivable due to a total loss of power steering assist. Before it failed completely, the car was making whining and grinding noises during low-speed turns. This failure occurred in Illinois, which is a high-corrosion 'Salt Belt' state specifically covered by the 19S26 bulletin. By denying this safety repair, Ford is forcing an unsafe vehicle to remain on the road or operate with manual steering, which is a major crash risk. The failure was physically confirmed and documented by a Ford dealer. I want to note that while the previous recall 18S08 for the steering wheel bolt was performed, that was an unrelated interior part and did not prevent this exterior motor bolt failure. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate why a vehicle with a confirmed 19S26 failure in a covered state is being denied the mandated safety remedy.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle decelerated independently and started jerking. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 30 MPH while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that several unknown repairs were performed on the vehicle regarding the failure; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
The vehicle exhibited zero heat when driving to work. It was operating roughly with misfiring occurring. Significant exhaust smoke was emitted during this time, enough to obscure vision in the neighborhood. I brought the vehicle to a repair facility, where they diagnosed it as extremely low on coolant, the probable cause of the lack of heat. A malfunction indicator light signified a misfire per the repair facility. They performed a pressure test on the coolant system, which held overnight. Based on those diagnostic results, they opted to replace the spark plugs. This did not resolve the issues. I contacted the dealership to inquire about further repair options, but they indicated no assistance was available after reviewing the vehicle's VIN. The vehicle lost all power while driving on public roads, placing myself and others in jeopardy.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the vehicle would fail to start up after multiple attempts without warning. The contact stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic but was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 157,199.
Engine Coolant Overheating Warning.keeps coming on. Engine coolant sensor 1 code amd Cylinders 1 and 2 misfiring codes on reader. Having to replace coolant every couple days. Afraid engine will be damaged and possibly catch fire.
Previously, about 5-6 times the car experienced sputtering and then stalling shortly after a warm engine restart. After 2 tries, the car would continue running. No check engine. No codes stored. Final time (before a scheduled shop visit) it stalled on a busy 4-lane road at rush hour and would not restart. Wife managed to manuever into the middle turn lane. Would not restart. Car displayed (unhelpfully) to check the owners manual. Towed to Firestone who found bad spark plugs (in particular cylinder 3) showing coolant leakage. Firestone seemed to be aware of the systemic issues (said replacing plugs was not solving the root problem, but they don't do engine replacements. Estimated that the car might run correctly for maybe a year. Car stalled again 3 days later). Coolant level was low. My experience seems similar to many others (ie., 2013-19 engine coolant leak). Car at dealership.
The vehicle was stuck in drive while the gear shifter was freely moving and not engaging to put the vehicle in to any gear.
While driving “steering fault. Service now” light illuminated. Next steering wheel locked up and displayed “steering loss stop safely” and “advance service trac”. Car could not be steering and had to be towed, now shop says rack and pinion needs replaced
The ACM (Audio Control Module) has failed in my 2015 Ford Fusion. Three times there was a very loud thump. Then the radio had a very loud static sound followed by silence. The radio won't even change stations or modes I can not use the radio, handsfree phone, google map assistance, cd, anything that is related to audio. Many complaints regarding the same issue are listed online. Wondering if Ford should do a recall on this failed system.
The transmission shift bushing fell off and my gear shift is stuck in park while the transmission indicator is registering as neutral. This was a recall for many Ford Fusion models but apparently not mine, although it is certainly the same issue the other models were experiencing. The bushing lubricant/bushing appears to have worn down over time resulting in this issue.

My vehicle will not turn on after refueling, but there are no signs of visible damage. The check engine light remains illuminated, and the code read for the O2 sensors. The RPM jump up and down at the slightest push of the accelerator, and occasionally the engine will shut off when RPM drops to idle speed.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at approximately 30 MPH, the contact became aware that there was fluid leaking from the rear brakes. The vehicle was repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and provided no additional assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
2015 Fusion with 1.5t ecoboost only 57,700 miles on it. Engine is bad. Coolant got into Cylinder heads. Ford is calling it coolant intrusion. Never heard of repairing an engine with low miles. Repair quote is $7,500. I guess Ford extended powertrain warranty on 2017 and newer to 150k 10 years. While my 17 year old son has to figure out how to pay for this. Ford customer care had nothing to offer, not even cover parts. I guess there’s a class action lawsuit filed.
This is car is original under recall 22V011000 as this car registered in Texas, but that recalls goes away and can no longer found in the system. without remedy the recall might put human on risk as indicated in recalls.

The failure mileage was 51,000.
Car was taking him for a recall on brake lines. Dealer phoned me and suggested that they replace the Lugnuts because they are a two piece. They are swollen and it’s a safety issue. I agreed to have them replace them at my cost because there is no warranty on these defective Lugnuts I see that this is an ongoing issue that Ford has known for quite a while. I think they should reimburse the people for the money they have spent on the dealer charges or just warranty them for the rest people that come in with the same issue. I also believe that my dealer is way over charging 10 Lugnuts will be about $100 for me to pay whereas I can buy a set of 20 of them online for under $20. I think this is outrageous.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the temperature gauge indicated that the engine was overheating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the coolant hose. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who determined that coolant was leaking into cylinders #2 and #3, resulting in damage to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N12, but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 171,000.
Multiple times when starting the car And shifting from Park to Drive or Park to Reverse there is a hesitation of a few seconds then the vehicle shifts hard into gear and jerks the vehicle without pressing the gas pedal. Engine makes a whining sound when motor engages. 2 auto shops, including Ford dealership says it's a bad transmission. When I went online to see if others have had this problem, issue was confirmed that this is a common problem with this Hybrid. We bought this car brand new, have maintained it per manual at dealership. This should not happen with a car with only 112,000 miles. Lemon law?

The dealership are full so you can’t get any recall done. This is a bad car and should be off the lots. I can’t get reimbursed for no work I put into this car because I didn’t take it to the dealership. This is unfair to me I work very hard for my money. This is about the third complaint I have sent and no one has responded. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND FORDS.
