Engine failure, water intrusion, they issued a recall for 2013 - 2018 1.5l and 2.0l, but not my vehicle. It's doing what they recalled. I have a appointment to get checked out and have recalls completed. There is a lot of people with this issue and no recall for their vehicle.

There is a " design flaw" with the vehicle where coolant leaks into the cylinder heads and you have to replace the whole engine. I have read about it in the Internet when my check engine light came on and gave me cylinder 2 misfire code.I started the car and the check engine light was off. I tried to get to work that morning and the car shut off on the middle of Interstate 81 with no warning. It was a very dangerous situation where I got stuck until it came to a complete stop and turn it back on. White smoke poured out of the tail pipe, I went home. I spoke with a Ford representative who said it is a design flaw in this engine and the whole thing needs to be replaced, with engines starting at $5,000 plus 4 days labor. He advised that the problem could happen again with the replacement. I know there is nothing you guys can do but my car died in 2 days.i have a $20,000 to pay off and only had this car a year and I am going to have to give it back and keep paying for it, for 5* years. I feel so upset and cannot believe Ford is doing this to people and getting away with it. This ruined my life and I will probably lose my job now cause I have no means of transportation. This needs to be recalled! It's not right
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 3 MPH and attempting to pull into the driveway of residence, the driver’s side door latch detached, causing the door to open unintendedly. The driver was unable to close the door. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 20V177000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The vehicle was driven to a dealer where it was confirmed that the latch had detached, and the door latch was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000. The VIN was not available.
Coolant intrusion..
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The contact stated that after the vehicle was parked, the contact’s husband exited and closed the front passenger's side door; however, the front passenger's side door latch fractured and failed to properly close the door. The contact stated that there was no impact to the front passenger's side door that could have caused the door latch to fracture. The contact had to firmly push the front passenger's side door to keep the door closed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the front passenger's side door latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V775000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.
Loss of power steering and multiple codes light up on dash about an hour prior to loss. Experienced a slow escalation of having difficultly steering of approx 1-2 days where steering did not seem as responsive. Was able to return home, but upon restart i had no power steering steering and multiple diagnostics failure lights coming on [Steering Loss Stop Safety, Service Advance Trac, Hill Start assist not available]. This currently is in a state of not being able to drive. Losing power steering assist puts safety at jeopardy at any speed to not allow for any fine movement or directional control. If this happened at any rate of speed this is a concern. It being the weekend I will need to discuss with my local mechanic as well as local dealership on course of action. I have tried to restart several times with the warnings and still lack of steering
The ABS System light , The traction off and on at the same time, the advanced track light, and finally the tire pressure monitor fault I belive is what it says. The lights came on one day when I crossed over railroad tracks that were a little rough nothing that should damage anything on a vehicle. one after another the lights began coming on. The steering is very tight and makes it hard to drive. When I go over bumps or any uneveness in the roadway the car will shift making the steering wheel jerk and the car to swerve. When you push on the brakes at times it feels like they are skipping and making a weird skipping sound as well. I thought it was needing the brakes so I got all for sides new brakes and rotors. That did not help either. I had a diagnostic scan done the car but it did not pick up anything but an h20 sensor so I got that repaired. I don't know why this is happening and I'm a single mother/grandmother. I cannot afford to spend a lot of money trying to fix these issues.
Coolant leaked into a cylinder due to a failed head gasket at 61,000 miles. Ford replaced head gasket, but the issue is due to poorly manufactured engine, and I had the same issue starting again at 99,000 miles. Ford refuses to fix engine since it is out of warranty, but the issue is due to poor manufacturing, not customer negligence.
While traveling at a high rate of speed of 75 mph, on the highway, my brakes failed, the brake pedal was pushed to the floor. The car was hesitant to shift/accelerate. Upon trying to get some type of braking remedy i almost crashed from off the bridge that i was trying to merge on to. upon trying to stop the car i went up a small grade which brought the car to a stop with the emergency brake on. While out of the vehicle the back, driver side caliber caught flame with bluish and greenish flames from the brake fluid coming out, being the metal was at an extreme temperature. I thankfully had my children's drinks/slushies in the car to throw on the flame to stop the spread and to put the flames out. I had to call for a tow truck to get myself and children off the side of the highway. After a $172.98 bill, the car was towed home. I contacted the dealership, which was then told i was responsible to pay and have it towed yet again to the dealerships lot. I have contacted the ford manufacture customer service line, dealership and the number for the recall notice multiple times to get my car fixed and have yet to receive adequate help in doing so.
2016 Fusion Titanium has the 2.0L Ecoboost engine with the coolant intrusion issue. This is a known issue with both Ford and the NHTSA, but after being diagnosed by a ford dealership, Ford Motor Co. will not provide any assist because it is not listed on any TSB or does not have an active recall. The models that are listed are the Edge, Focus, MKZ, and the Fusion, but Fusion models start at 2017 on the TSB. This is not accurate information because the exact same engine that is used in the Focus/Edge models and year range is used in the 2016 Fusion.
I have a coolant intrusion on cylinder number three. It is a Ford defect. It should be Under recall
Technical Service Bulletin 22-2134. coolant intrusion into the cylinder. P0302 code

After the car has been sitting in the sun with the sun shining on the drivers side door, on a warm day, the seatbelt on the driver side cannot not be extracted until the car cools down. This has happened several times. I have talked to the dealer and he says that he has not seen this problem before. I have googled the issue and it appears that I am not the only one who has had this problem. I’ve had to drive several times without using my seatbelt as I cannot use the seatbelt.
On Saturday [XXX] I noticed when I opened my driver side door, the dash light & the light on my touch screen began flickering. I didn't think much about it at the time, but the next day, [XXX] as myself & my wife were traveling on the highway, I tried to turn on my cruise control but it would not come on. I then tried to adjust my stereo volume on the steering wheel & it wasn't working either. Well, the next day I checked the fuses & they were fine, so that's when I went online & found out that the clock spring in the steering wheel could most likely be the problem. Well I decided to dig a little deeper into the matter & I found out that some 2016 Ford trucks had been recalled because of faulty clock springs which also could cause the airbag not to deploy when needed. I was just told by an employee from a local Ford Dealership that the 2016 Ford Fusion was not a part of that recall, which I believe should have been a part of that recall, because I'm pretty sure that the same clock springs that were used in those 2016 trucks, were used in the 2016 Ford Fusions. I would like to ask that you would please look into this mater, because this is a serious mater, & I think Ford needs to fix this problem. They should be responsible for all of their vehicles with these bad clock springs & not just those trucks only. Thank you for your time & all you do to keep us safe on the road. God Bless you all! The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle occasionally stalled and hesitated to restart. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic where the canister purge valve was replaced several times however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the canister purge valve was replaced, and the engine was flushed. The vehicle was repaired out of pocket; however, the failure reoccurred. In addition, the vehicle was taken to a local service center where it was scanned. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
1.5 turbo engine is having a coolant intrusion. had miss fire code and all systems of the recall/service bulletin 22-2134 and was not included in a recall. available to be looked at risk of engine failure diagnosis was done at a independent shop has not been looked at by manufacture started about 4 months ago had a few codes including engine miss fire but replace several components plugs, coils and fuel injectors. had to top off coolant. engine light would come on interment. and engine would run rough but will turn off
Engine failure at 80,000 miles. Crack between #3 and #4 cylinders causing a rough idle, loss of coolant and check engine light for a #4 cylinder misfire.
I started the vehicle and smelled ash. As I drove away from home at very low speed in my neighborhood, I started to notice white smoke which gradually increased. I immediately parked the car. There was no signs of leaks under the vehicle (but it has extensive underbody covesr). There was moisture and fluid droplets coming from the exhaust pipes. I started the vehicle remotely to view it from the rear and witnessed white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes, then immediately shut it off. I had it towed to my mechanic who checked the vehicle and noted no issues with the coolant combustion or engine pressure. I had it towed to another shop which replaced the turbo last year, and they checked it for turbo issues. They noted that the engine is dumping coolant into the exhaust system, and that this is an issue know to Ford.
Misfire #3 cylinder, coolant loss with no external signs of coolant leak. White smoke out exhaust when driving. Overheating
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine started overheating, and the coolant level dropped significantly. The contact stated that there was a sloshing sound inside the cabin of the vehicle, coming from under the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with a coolant intrusion into the combustion chamber. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.
I was parked in a parking spot in a parking lot and put my car in reverse to back out. As I was backing out my gear shifter cable snapped and I could not put my car back into any other gear. This caused me to be stopped in the middle of the parking lot blocking traffic. If the cable would have snapped before I was in the vehicle it would have rolled back into other vehicles, and possibly a pedestrian. I had to call a tow truck driver who was able to temporarily pop it back into gear to get it in the rollback and tow it to the nearest Ford dealership. It was confirmed at the dealership that it was in fact the gear shifter cable and this was a common problem with ford fusions and many had recalls for this exact thing, however my car was not covered under the recall. There were no warning signs of prior issues to this problem and just happened.
Started with a check engine code misfire in cylinder 3. Took it to a shop for them to say I needed a new spark plug and coil. Replaced the parts, and still had the code. Kept driving the car and then started having rough idling, white exhaust smoke, and stalling. Upon further research noticed I was missing coolant but the mechanic couldn’t find the leak. Continued driving the car, experiencing trouble accelerating, stalling, and white exhaust smoke. Replaced fuel injectors. Up until one day I went to start the vehicle and it would crank but not turn over. Had it towed to a mechanic who said they couldn’t explain why I had no spark. Then to another mechanic who said I have coolant leaking into my cylinder 3 that will require engine replacement. This is a known issue with fords with the same engine. Addressed ford and they said there was nothing they could do without a recall.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V427000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was contacted and referred to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was unknown.
Ford fusion Transmission shifter cable bushing was a recalled part that was replaced in 2019. As of 2024 it failed again and for will not cover the replacement because the recall was already serviced.
This failure narrowly resulted in a serious accident when my vehicle applied the brakes without warning and dropped the speed to below 40 mph on the Highway! I was extremely fortunate not to have been closely followed by a large semi at the time. I researched on my own and found this was a known defect: Ford Recall reference #22S02 (21C24) March 2022. includes vehicles built in Hemosillo plant from Oct 2013 thru 6 April 2015. my fusion was built there on 2 April 2015 but was not included in the March 2022 recall so I was never notified. Apparently this was a known defect and on going problem since Ford issued SSM 50328 to cover various vehicles built from 2013 to 2021 (Includes 2013-2017 Fusion/MKZ). I was able to drive the vehicle safely on back roads to a local Ford dealer where the problem was addressed. I submitted a request for refund to Ford and advise them of this continuing safety issue that should have been addressed with a properly expanded recall. Ford denied my request and tried to avoid the ongoing safety issue claiming it was an "out of warranty" matter.

The previous 2 models of this car had a recall on the button underneath the brake switch that is engaged by the pedal. They have not changed the design and the 2016 has the very same issue, plus another issue. We were able to replace the button ourselves since they decided not to admit that they did not change these parts even though they knew this was an issue years prior. Not only that, but the holder for the switch is part of the entire pedal assembly and it is the only part of this assembly that is made of plastic. The rest is metal. The problem is that since this is plastic, and it resides where the heat comes out from under the dash, the part becomes brittle and breaks into a million pieces just with normal wear. The pedal assembly is super expensive and you can't even get it out without removing the entire dash. We tried to get a used part and spent half of the day taking the part out only to find that it had done the exact same thing that my daughter's car did. The plastic disintegrates and falls apart. At that point there is no brake switch and the brake lights stay on and the car will decrease speed without warning or won't accelerate. This is something I am pretty sure Ford is well aware of since they recalled part of this defective design years ago. They just didn't admit that the entire thing is designed to fail. It is only a matter of time due to the constant heat that the plastic holder for the brake switch is on. All they had to do was change it to metal and it would have fixed that part of the issue, but then there is also the button itself that disintegrates due to the same heat exposure causing the symptoms listed above. They knew very well the design was flawed since the 2 previous years of this car were recalled for the same issue, and they are still using the same parts in the exact same way. They have not fixed anything and this company needs to be held accountable before someone gets hurt.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while the vehicle was coming to a stop, the contact became aware of white smoke coming from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined there was coolant intrusion into the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
Gear shifter was stuck in “Park” and unable to move shifter and change gears. The car was actually in Neutral. There were not warning signals the car was in neutral and could roll away. This puts the driver, passengers, pedestrians, and property at risk of injury/damage. Several recalls have been issued for 2016 Ford Fusions transmission bushings for this exact issue. When I contacted the Ford dealership they stated my VIN number was not impacted by the recall. I had the vehicle towed to my mechanic where the issue was identified as the transmission bushing, which they replaced. I then contacted Ford Motor Company who looked up my VIN and stated my vehicle DID have a recall on the bushing and that the part was replaced in Dec 2019 (prior to me owning the car). The replacement part used to address the recall had the same issue as what it was original part was recalled for.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the sunroof detached from the vehicle and flew off. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repair by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000. The VIN was not available.
Kept getting a misfire on cylinder 2 after ford preformed a “recall” on the power train control system well the car now has coolant leaking into the number two cylinder causing it to shake violently and complete loss of power luckily my wife was able to pull safely off the roadway with my [XXX] son present before losing control and having an accident INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH and attempting to make a right turn, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact used excessive force to pull to the side of the road and allowed another individual more capable of maneuvering the vehicle without power steering functionality. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the Traction Control and Hill Assist Failure warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 101,000.
Coolant intrusion into cylinder(s): My vehicle suddenly overheated while I was traveling on a highway that had stretches of ongoing construction and no shoulder. While attempting to reach a portion of the highway with a shoulder, my car went into "limp" mode. I had to shut the vehicle off and wait for it to cool. After about an hour I was able to have someone bring me coolant and I was able to restart my vehicle and get to a safe location. My car continues to overheat whenever I try to accelerate on a highway, leaving me in a position where I am trying to pull my car to the shoulder without causing an accident. There is white smoke coming from my exhaust, my check engine light comes on, and I am losing coolant, although no leaks can be found. My car has ALL symptoms listed under Ford's Technical Service Bulletin 20-2100 issued 01 April 2020 titled "TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 1.5L EcoBoost - Low Coolant, White Exhaust Smoke And/Or Illuminated MIL - Built On Or Before 10-Jun-2019". This intrusion can cause my vehicle to catch on fire! I have had my vehicle evaluated and scanned and am now having to spend over $1,500 to replace the water pump in hopes it alleviates the overheating. Ford is expressly aware of this issue, and I have found that there have been multiple class-action suits filed against Ford for this exact issue.
As me and my daughter had been out all day on the way home the coolant light comes on it’s overheating so we stop and waited bout 15 minutes started home again same thing happened then the car started misfiring checked coolant it was low put some in then in a couple days coolant was gone again took to shop to look for leak was informed motor was going bad never had issues out car till coolant started leaking looked it up that was one of ford biggest problems with the ford fusion but no recall has been stated for this problem so I would b careful of the coolant systems
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while attempting to park the vehicle, the steering wheel was seized. The message “Steering Loss - Drive Safely” was displayed. The contact turned off the vehicle and had the vehicle towed to the residence. The contact was notified of an unknown recall related to the steering. The dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and it was confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 127,000.
Had a coolant leak which further damaged my whole engine. i need a new one now after only having my car for 2 years.
Engine block needed replaced due to coolant intrusion. Started off with an engine light for misfire then started using coolant to smoking on start up then eventually hydrolocking the engine for a no start condition making car undriveable. Diagnosed at dealer for coolant intrusion with only fix of a new block at a cost around $10,000.
This car has a coolant leak failure where coolant has leaked into the engine and showing no signs of a visible leak. This is exactly the same failure mode as all of the ford fusion recalls with the same engine but for whatever reason this VIN was not included in the recall. I have filed a complaint with Ford #02160862 but they state there is nothing they can do. I have reviewed my options with the dealership and they said that Ford doesn’t even offer remanufactured engines for this vehicle because they all experience the same coolant issue. This statement alone shows that Ford is aware of the issue but not doing anything about it. Replacement with a brand new engine quoted at $11k is the only path forward.
