NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
An error message intermittently pops up on my vehicle that says, "Front Camera Fault", causing collision assistance and adaptive cruise control to suddenly stop working. This is a major safety issue, as a failure of adaptive cruise control while under operation may lead to a risk of an accident. Ford is aware of this issue and has issued TSB 23-2155, but they are treating it like a standard repair and not covering vehicles out of warranty. This should be a safety recall. See here for many others with the same issue: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The front camera has failed and it is available for inspection upon request. The safety of myself and everyone in my car is at risk when the pre-collision assist is not available due to this components failure. Yes, it is a daily occurrence and the camera never stays on for long. A fix was attempted once by a dealer. The component has not been inspected by either of those parties. Only the dealer whom the car was purchased from. Yes, warning messages pop up every time in the car and in the phone app about the issue. They first appeared before car purchase when the dealer fixed it in early February. Then it resumed again in late February/March.
Vehicle experienced immediate loss of motive power while in motion at 45 mph after "Stop Safely Now" alert. This is a repeat power failure. The vehicle was in service for 75+ days (Dec-Feb) for this exact defect. The Ford service center said they replaced the “battery controller” yet the issue recurred. The car previously flagged this alert while in motion 2 times prior (one on the highway going ~65mph and on another major street going roughly ~45 mph). As a Ford Reacquired Vehicle (Buyback), the failure to resolve this catastrophic electrical fault creates an extreme risk of crash and entrapment in traffic, putting myself, my family and the drivers in vicinity at significant safety risk. The car is currently at a different Ford Service Center. They have been able to reproduce the issue and are currently running diagnostics to identify a resolution.
On Saturday, [XXX], while driving under normal conditions, the vehicle experienced a sudden and complete loss of propulsion without warning. There was no reduced-power mode, no dashboard alert, and no mobile app notification prior to shutdown. The vehicle was subsequently inspected by a Ford dealership. The technician identified an intermittent software-related condition consistent with Ford TSB 26-2005, which documents a fault capable of draining the 12-volt electrical system during vehicle operation. The technician stated the 12-volt battery is not believed to be the root cause. The loss of propulsion occurred while the vehicle was in motion and resulted in a full shutdown. The condition was not preceded by any driver warning or controlled degradation. No driver warning was received after shutdown. Ford is unable to perform two safety recalls. The first is over the windshield which can lead to its failure while driving. The second is for the glass roof which can cause a failure while driving. The local dealer in Springfield Illinois says they can not do the work and can not identify anyone locally who will do the work. The dealership with the Ford autobody repair shop in the next town over in taylorville Illinois says they can not do the work. I called Ford customer service and they just sent me to the taylorville shop that said they can't do the work. The windshield or roof can come off and no one will do the repair including Fords own autobody shop. Help.
I am requesting immediate escalation regarding my 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E (VIN: [XXX] ), which is currently undrivable due to being stuck in “Power Accessory Active” mode. The vehicle will not enter Drive. The dealer has diagnosed DCEM / high-voltage system-related faults and stated that recall repairs cannot be completed unless I first pay approximately $3,000 to repair the “main battery.” My concern is that the symptoms and failure mode exactly match the known High-Voltage Battery Junction Box / DCEM defect described in Ford Safety Recall 23S56, including: •Vehicle unable to drive •High-voltage system refusing to close contactors •Vehicle remaining in accessory power mode •Safety-related loss of motive power While my VIN may not be currently listed as eligible for these recalls, my vehicle is exhibiting identical symptoms and failure modes associated with the following Ford safety recalls: •HV Battery Junction Box / DCEM defect (Recall 23S56) •Powertrain / Software Update (Recall 22S29) •12-Volt Battery / Door Latch Entrapment Risk (Recall 25S65) It is important to note that other Mustang Mach-E owners have reported the same recall-related failures even when their VINs were not listed for these recalls. These failures involve contactor issues, loss of motive power, and vehicles being stuck in accessory mode — identical to the symptoms my vehicle is experiencing. Given that my vehicle is experiencing a safety-related loss of motive power, Given the safety implications and known defect history, I request that this matter be reviewed. While charging my electric vehicle with this Enel X JuiceBox 40 charger, a burning plastic smell was noted. Upon examining the Enel X charger plug that was attached to my home's NEMA 14-50, it appeared partially melted and very to touch. Using a towel, the plug was removed and a small fire and sparks flew out of the NEMA outlet. The right half of the outlet's plastic shell was melted and the inner metal was charred. Same charring and melting was noted on the corresponding side of the Enel X plug. I turned the circuit breaker off and the sparks and fire subsided. Model of JuiceBox: 2JBO401RNA-PJWX-300
After recall-related software updates were performed on my 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E, the vehicle began experiencing repeated electrical and climate control failures. The heating and defrost system stopped working, leaving the vehicle without heat and causing the windows to fog, which reduces visibility in cold weather and creates unsafe driving conditions. The vehicle has been taken to multiple authorized Ford dealerships for inspection and repair; however, the problem returned immediately after the repair. The issue was reproduced and confirmed by a second dealer. A required part is currently on back order until the end of Feburary, leaving the vehicle unrepaired for an extended period. In addition, the vehicle experienced 12-volt battery failure and slow charging after the last recall update. These issues were not present prior to the recall. There were no warning lights before the failures occurred. During severe winter weather conditions in Pennsylvania, the lack of heat and defrost made it extremely difficult and unsafe to operate the vehicle. Because of reduced visibility and freezing interior temperatures, the vehicle could not be safely driven and, due to frigid temperatures, has remained parked. I am still making monthly payments on a vehicle that cannot be reliably or safely used.
The backup camera and 360 view stopped working, and the reverse break assist is not available when placing the vehicle in reverse. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The car would intermittently give an error saying pre-collision assist not available and now this error is permanent. There is a technical service bulletin for it 23-2155 Lots of people have been complaining about this in the mach e forum https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/front-camera-fault-pre-collision-assist-not-available-errors.18710/page-69#post-1026803 This causes people to drop out from the automatic driving bluecruise without notice and adaptive cruise control becomes unusable.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 - 25 MPH in the rain at night, the brake pedal was bouncing up and down. The contact stated that the doors locked and failed to open. Additionally, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the hazard lights were inoperable. They stated that one of the passenger’s side tire warning lights was illuminated. The contact stated that the battery was at 98 percent and that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V333000 (Vehicle Speed Control, Power Train) prior to the failure. The contact called Roadside Assistance, but Roadside Assistance was unable to assist. The contact stated that a Police Officer arrived on the scene to assist. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer after several hours. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 40,400.
There are many reports of the Mustang Mach E "accelerating unexpectedly." This usually happens in parking lots or other situations involving low speed and a rapid turn of the wheel. I know exactly what the problem is, because it happened to me this morning. While parking in my parking garage, my car rapidly accelerated uphill and I only narrowly avoided hitting a wall. Here is why: There are two interconnected problems. The first is that the "cruise control on/off" button is located on the far left of the interior of the steering wheel, which makes it easy to accidentally press when doing a sharp, quick one-handed turn of the wheel (like when parking). When this happens, CC engages while in the act of parking. This is exactly what happened to me. I accidentally hit the button while doing a sharp twist of the wheel, I saw the CC engage, the car rapidly accelerated uphill without my foot on the gas pedal, and I would have hit the wall in front of me if I had been a split-second slower in hitting the brake. The second problem is that there is supposed to be a failsafe for accidentally activating CC at low speed, BUT IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK. Page 224 of my manual says "Press the button to activate system. When the system activates, the set speed is equal to whichever is greater, the current vehicle speed, or 15 mph...." This part is true, and this is how the unexpected acceleration to 15mph occurs when parking. But the manual continues: "If the speed is too low, or other conditions are not correct for adaptive cruise control activation, the system enters standby mode. When you are below 15 mph ... adaptive cruise control does not activate unless you are following another vehicle." This is FALSE. This did not work. Clearly the CC mistook the wall in front of me for "following another vehicle." And so, when I accidentally activated CC while parking, it lurched forward UPHILL to 15mph toward a wall a few feet away. Ford needs to move the button and/or fix the failsafe.
On [XXX], my 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E (VIN [XXX] ) experienced a complete electrical failure related to its V12 battery system. The vehicle required roadside assistance twice during the same service call — first to jump the car to release the hood latch and again to restore enough power to unlock the doors. An elderly occupant was trapped inside until power was restored. After exiting, she became light-headed and fell; EMS responded and transported her to the hospital. This represents a serious safety defect because total electrical shutdown prevented door operation and normal egress. I am requesting investigation and possible recall review. Car stalled once while going to a military appt but started up 3 mins later. Car then made a noise then stalled out of nowhere on the highway at a slow speed in heavy traffic causing anxiety. vehicle then had me stranded waiting for a tow to find out it’s the HVJB .
Going over any bump in the road greater than 2 inches in heigth causes the following: - Front Camera Fault Service Required message - Pre-collision Assist inoperative - Adaptive cruise control inoperative
In mid-November 2023, the authorized Ford dealership Hutchinson Ford of Forsyth, located in Forsyth, Georgia, sold and installed four Toyo A23 tires (size 225/55R19 99V) on my 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. After approximately 23,000 miles, the tires experienced catastrophic premature wear. Upon investigation, I discovered the dealership had installed tires with a load index of 99. The manufacturer's required specification for my vehicle is a minimum load index of 103. This incorrect fitment created an 880-pound deficit in the vehicle's total load-carrying capacity, posing a severe and constant risk of tire failure, especially at highway speeds. This is a critical safety issue for a heavy electric vehicle. The dealership's management has acknowledged the danger. When I raised this issue, the service manager stated they were "glad something bad did not happen." Despite this admission of the risk they created, they have refused to correct the safety issue, claiming the premature failure is normal wear as the tires are "nearing end of life." This constitutes a dangerous service practice by an authorized Ford dealer, which knowingly left a customer's vehicle in an unsafe condition. I am filing this complaint to document this safety issue and the dealership's refusal to rectify it.
The spot welds connecting the door at the hinges have failed. The metal is shearing, over 10mm, at multiple of the world locations.
only incident I have had is that the dealership cannot fix the recall yet its been a week and still have not recieved anything ,or a loaner or a rental. I am in the military active duty and havent had anything
When in cruise control, any speed, car suddenly accelerates This happens while driving, or sometimes after stopping and then resuming previous set speed. For example I was driving in cruise control at 38 mph, when the car suddenly sped to 50mph. Or when on a highway, driving at 55mph, the car suddenly accelerated to 70mph. Started about 3 weeks ago.
Ford had a recall on the brakes. The brakes were services 3 times in relational to this issue. Now again the front end shutters when braking especially at highway speed. The dealer says the pads need to be replaced and the rotors resurfaced .This is the 4th time in 42,000 miles. they will not warranty this on going issue. If the pads need to be replaced 4 time in 42,000 mile on a vehicle with regenerative braking there is a obvious issue. I feel this is an on going issue that was never corrected .
I was driving on the highway when the car gave me an error saying that the front camera is faulty and the collision warning system was giving an error. This stopped my cruise control and lane departure settings. I had just got my car back from Ford for this issue where they replaced a $7000 computer part and said it was fixed. This issue has been happening since I purchased the car in Dec 2024.

The failure mileage was approximately 46,140.
Car gave me a warning to bring car to dealer, who told me I need to replace the High Voltage Battery Junction Box. This part was recalled on other models, but not my specific model, despite the cars using the same part. Dealer said it will cost $3,593 to replace and Ford customer service says there is no recall for it. Also, I intermittenly have gotten a warning that the front camera will not work for forward collision warning or cruise control. It often happens after a bump in the road, but also happens at other random times.
Front camera fault. Pre collision systems don’t work without it. Large online community with the same issues but ford refuses to acknowledge it’s an issue. They won’t help even if errors start happening before warranty is over. And once warranty is over they charge large amounts to fix. There is a TSB out for the issue and it seems like a pinched coaxial cable. Our safety is at stake and the number of occurrences can’t not be random. The contact owns a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact stated that the safety system occasionally became inoperable. The contact stated that the cable wires were damaged and caused the dropping of the camera after traveling over a bump in the roadway, and the safety features were not available. The camera dropped five to six times per hour. The blue cruise became inoperable, and the driver assistance was inoperable. The vehicle began to pull to the side of the road. There was no audible chime detected. There was an unknown warning light illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but declined to repair the vehicle under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.
The front camera system stopped working, so I lost access to Pre-Collision Assist—(e.g., Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking) as well as all other driver assistance feature. This would occur suddenly while I was driving (sometimes at highway speeds) where I'd have to swerve during a turn while using hands-free driving. Every time I start the car now, I have a permanent error message telling me the safety systems aren’t available. I’ve tried restarting the vehicle and checking for any obvious problems, but nothing has worked. The dealer told me it’s a hardware problem with the camera or its wiring, but fixing it would cost more than I can afford ($4K+). Since Pre-Collision Assist is a key safety feature, not having it working puts me—and possibly other drivers—at greater risk of an accident. This seems to be a common issue with Mustang Mach-Es, and I’m worried about the safety impact. I hope NHTSA can look into this and see if a recall or some other action is needed.
Was driving and suddenly all errors started popping up Hill start assist warning 1 pedal driving unavailable Pre collision assist not available Antilock brake fault, etc Lost braking power, steering got stiff, accelerated suddenly.
Lack of power assist braking and power steering. Anti-lock braking, Electronic Stability Control, and Traction Control System, as well as Hill Start Assist and Pre-Collision Assist are disabled. The instrument cluster displays several warning lamps and text messages at vehicle startup. The dealer is recommending a replacement of the brake booster. This issue matches a recall with the same make, model, and year car, but my VIN is not associated with any unrepaired recalls.
Requested dealer to perform recall "Inadequate Front Windshield Bonding/FMVSS 212" Dealer reported "our vendor did not actually perform any work on the windshield, he confirmed work was done elsewhere with a reseal so there was nothing we actually did" There is no documentation supporting the reseal work was done on this vehicle.
The car steering oscillated right and left similar to a 2022 recall description.
My 12-volt battery died and due to my car being an Electric Vehicle there was no way for me to get inside my car without jumper cables. The safety concern was that it happened without noticed when i stepped out the car to get my [XXX] out of the back seat. Completely locking me out the car and no way to get inside. The car doesn’t have a conventional door handle and cannot open without electricity. I had to have emergency services come and break into the car. Melted High Volt Junction Box after DC Fast Charging. Car became compromised while 3 hours from home. Limiting speed and ability to recharge. This vehicle had the High Voltage Junction Box melt back in the summer of 2022. The original was replaced under Warranty. The replacement part they installed is also faulty. I do not DC Fast charge very often. Maybe 12 times in the lifespan of this car. The original recall for this issue was a Software upgrade in the summer of 2022. There appears to have been a recall for hardware in fall of 2023 but for some reason this car was not part of that recall. The part that Ford installed in July of 2022 has since been redesigned several times, but I was left with the old version and that Melted down. Please recall the faulty HVJB part installed in these cars that were impacted when the originals melted. This costs $3,000 to have them repair and is not covered by warranty any longer.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to another dealer to be diagnosed. The contact researched and became aware of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,255.
There is a repeated front camera fault that prevents the "Pre-Collision Assist" from working, which could lead to a car accident and possible injury/fatality. It has been to the dealership many times over more than 2 years, and the issue still has not been resolved. The Ford dealer had been able to confirm and reproduce the issue. There is no consistency for when the alert appears on the car that the "Pre-Collision Assist" is not working, but it happens often.
The car was parked and will not move. The car turns on, an alert displays that to stop the car and pull over and the car is in park and will not allow you to move the dial out of park. Had to have the car towed to dealership. The 12v battery was replaced, this did not help, the car still will not allow you to put it in drive.
Some of the driver assistance warning systems may not be operable due to multiple and frequent warning messages. Messages are: Front Camera Fault Service Required; Pre-Collision Assist Not Available; Lane Keeping System Fault Service Required. Ford is unable to correct these making it potentially unsafe. Additionally, they are not covering the attempt to fix this under the extended warranty. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of owners of the same model and year of my car, and subsequent years as well, having this issue with no resolution. There needs to be a recall.
I have had the HVBJB replaced twice. I have had 2 high voltage warnings and power train malfunction. It in the shop again for the same problem. Supposedly getting fixed for the same problem.
While driving, the service parking brake system alert displayed. The parking brake when I entered a parking lot no longer functioned and displayed an error on the dash. The vehicle had to be repaired before the parking brake became functional again.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 MPH, the infotainment screen flipped forward and opened. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined the infotainment system screen needed to be replaced due to the clips malfunctioning. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,600.
The electrical system failed. Issue was it disengaged the 12 volt system as well. Vehicle seized and stopped in the middle of a high usage road with no ability to put into neutral. After speaking with Ford, they concede that there must be 12 volt battery power in order to put car in neutral. After 2 hours of blocking traffic The tow truck arrived ( was a rainy day) and within a minute hooked up a 12 volt battery and drove the vehicle off the road way. This is not acceptable and needs to be addressed. My claim number with Ford is: case [XXX]. Thank you. Feel free to contact me in any further information is needed. The contact owns a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the "Stop Safely Now” message was displayed. There was a RED warning light illuminated. While the vehicle was being charged, the Ford app showed a charge fault error. The vehicle was undriveable. While using a diagnostic tool, it showed there was a failure with the BCM and DTC: P0AA2 and P0D10 were retrieved. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V412000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, opened a case, and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 19,000.
My vehicle is not a part of the Recall #23S56, however, my High Voltage Battery Junction Box has gone back and in need of replacement. The warranty light appeared on 2/2/25 after acceleration. I was able to make an appointment with my local Ford Dealership for today 2/4/25 and was informed of the issue.
The forward collision detection system failed first. Then the car suddenly would not move and gave a pull over immediately warning on the dash and also flashed a battery light. It was 15 degrees outside and my wife and son were stuck in the cold. Not a safe environment. This is inexcusable for a car to be driving fine on minute and to be completely inoperative the next.
Backing up from a parking spot it failed to give warning of pedestrians crossing. It also fails warning for lane departures or Collision Alert warnings. All settings are on the console settings for drivers assist. Warning are given too late for pedestrians and Auto crossing while backing up. Forward collision warning does not work at all.
A KNOWN faulty camera problem for 100s of Ford EVs. Starts off as very intermediate warnings until it stops working all together. This problem doesn't allow you to use cruise control and a host of other standard safety features. This should be a recall, I can't imagine someone getting hurt or worse because ford isn't getting ahead of this thing.
The car had an issue with the 12V battery which caused it to be completely disabled and unresponsive to the key fob and phone as a key. My wife had gotten out of the car without knowing this had happened and went to the rear door to let out our infant son, but the door would not open. We called emergency services and roadside assistance. AAA arrived first and tried to open the lock but were unsuccessful. I had to smash the window to open the door and rescue my son. Emergency services arrived after I had already done this. The only reason I know it was an issue with the 12V battery is because the Ford dealership told me after I had the car towed there for inspection. The only way to open the car in this situation is to use a portable jumper to jump two wires hidden in the bumper which open the Frunk. Then you need to jump the actual battery that is located in the frunk. It does not have a mechanical release for the doors. This supposed fix is highly dangerous as it requires one to have a readily available jumper and the 12V battery needs to be completely drained in this scenario. In my case, this didn’t work even when the Ford technician arrived. The only possible way to get in was to break through a laminated glass window which was incredibly difficult to break even with the correct tool to do it.
