TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED THE INCORRECT SPEED. WHEN DRIVING AT A RELATIVELY SLOW SPEED, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD DISPLAY A RAPID SPEED. HE TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 83,000.
A YEAR AGO, I PURCHASED A 2002 MERCURY COUGAR. IT HAD AN IN-DASH 6 DISC CD PLAYER. ABOUT 3 TIMES A WEEK, THE CDS WOULD GET JAMMED IN THE PLAYER. I GOT RID OF THE COUGAR AND PURCHASED A 2002 FORD MUSTANG TWO DAYS AGO. THERE ARE 6 CDS STUCK IN THE IN-DASH CD PLAYER ON THIS CAR AS WELL. OTHERS I HAVE TALKED TO THAT OWN FORD/MERCURY VEHICLES WITH THE SAME TYPE OF CD PLAYER ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
WIPER BLADE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILS. WIPERS FAIL IN INTERMITTENT MODE, FOLLOWED BY COMPLETE FAILURE OF WIPER BLADE FUNCTION. FAILURE HAS RECURRED 5 TIMES AFTER REPAIR WORK. REPAIR WORK INCLUDED REPLACING WIPER MOTOR, REPLACING RELAYS, AND REPLACING ENTIRE RELAY BOX HOUSING. *JB
I OWN A 2002 FORD MUSTANG GT. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER, I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE EVER. CAR MILEAGE :85,138 WHILE DRIVING MY CAR IN TOWN,A LOUD BANG CAME FROM THE ENGINE, FOLLOWED BY A POPPING NOISE AND SEAMED TO BE A LOUD LEAK. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A GARAGE AND THE MECHANICS INFORMED ME THE #3 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT. HE INFORMED ME THAT THIS KIND OF THING HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO FORDS.HAD TO GET THE IGNITION COIL REPLACED, NEW SPARK PLUGS, AND HELI COILED THE #3 SPARK PLUG THREAD. FINAL BILL $694.00 NOW I AM WONDERING HOW SOON BEFORE THE OTHER SPARK PLUGS DECIDE TO BLOW OUT.I READ ON THE NET THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER FORD VEHICLES, NOT JUST MUSTANGS. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS BECAME EXTREMELY FOGGY, RESULTING IN POOR VISIBILITY. FORD CORPORATION WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PLASTIC HEADLIGHT COVER HAS SEVERE OXIDATION AND THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY HAS TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 12/12/07 *TR
ON MARCH 21, 2007, MY MUSTANG CAUGHT FIRE IN THE DRIVEWAY OF MY MOTHER'S HOME IN NEW BRIGHTEN, PA 15066 WHERE I THEN LIVED. IT WAS PARKED AT ABOUT 7PM AFTER DRIVING INTO NEW BRIGHTEN AND BACK, ABOUT 5 MILES EACH WAY. AT ABOUT 2AM THAT NIGHT WE WERE AWAKENED BY THE CAR HORN AND THE GLOW OF THE CAR ENGULFED IN FLAMES. A FIRE INSPECTION RESULT WAS UNDETERMINED. *TR
MY CAR HAS A FACTORY 6 DISC CD CHANGER, AND ONE SLOT, #3, HAS NUMEROUS PROBLEMS LOADING AND UNLOADING CDS, CAUSING THEM TO GET STUCK IN THE HEAD UNIT. ALSO, WHEN LOADED WITH CD'S, THE UNIT WILL RANDOMLY GO INTO SHUFFLE MODE IF PLAYING A CD, OR SCAN AND SAVE MODE IF PLAYING THE RADIO. THIS SEEMS LIKE A VERY POOR PART FOR WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE A PREMIUM AUDIO SYSTEM ON A CAR WITH ONLY 40,000 MILES....*JB
1. DRIVER DOOR WINDOW NOT GOING UP OR DOWN ON TRACK 2. TOOK CAR TO DEALER FOR REPAIR 3. DEALER STATES THAT WINDOW ROLLER GUIDE FELL OFF GLASS CAUSING WINDOW TO BIND CAUSED DAMAGE TO WINDOW REGULATOR. 4. DEALER STATES WINDOW AND WINDOW REGULATOR NEED REPLACING. 5. OWNER DECLINED REPAIR. *NM
CAR WILL BOG/ HAVE LITTLE POWER ON ACCELERATION THEN YOU WILL FEEL THE CAR PICK UP AND GO. ALSO, WHEN ACCELERATING FROM INTO A TURN CAR WILL BOG DOWN THEN PICK BACK UP. IF GAS IS PRESSED QUICKLY THE CAR WILL BOG THEN PICK UP. MASS AIR SENSOR REPLACED IN 2003 BUT PROBLEM STILL HAPPENING. *JB
I HAVE REPLACED DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELTS 2 TIME AND THEY NEED IT AGAIN THEY STOP RETRACTING. MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WILL NOT WORK IT THE SUN SHINES ON THAT SIDE OF CAR. HEADLIGHTS HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE SO FOGGY YOU COULDN'T SEE WHEN LIGHTS WERE ON. *TR
MY DAUGHTER, WHILE DRIVING OUR 2002 FORD MUSTANG, STOPPED BEHIND A TRUCK AHEAD OF HER THAT WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. THE TRUCK PULLED FORWARD AS IF TO GO, THEN STOPPED SUDDENLY IN FRONT OF HER. SHE RAN INTO THE BACK OF HIS TRUCK GOING LESS THAN 5 MPH AND HER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *JB
THE SEAT BELTS ON MY 2002 MUSTANG GT BROKE, THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM AS I'VE ASKED OTHERS ABOUT THEIRS. THE RATCHET MECHANISM STOPS WORKING AND / OR THE SEAT BELTS BECOME ENTANGLED SEVERELY IN THE MECHANISM AND FAIL TO WORK ANYMORE, RESULTING IN REPLACING THE RATCHETING MECHANISM AND SEAT BELT. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER TO SEE IF THEY OFFERED A FIX AND WAS TOLD THEY DO NOT AND THAT MY WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN ESPECIALLY WHEN SO MANY MUSTANG OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB
WHEN THE CAR IS TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS YOU HEAR A RUBBING NOISE OF SOME SORT, ONLY AT LOW SPEED GOING LEFT OR RIGHT. SOUND IS FROM THE REAR END. 2002 MUSTANG GT 5 SPEED, 42,000 MILES. *NM
I WAS TRAVELING HOME FROM WORK ON JUNE 30, 2006, IN MY 2002 FORD MUSTANG GT DURING A HEAVY RAIN STORM. UPON TURNING INTO A SUBDIVISION NEAR MY HOUSE I WENT THROUGH SOME WATER IN THE STREET THAT WAS HIGHER THAN USUAL, BUT NOT HIGH ENOUGH TO STALL MY CAR'S ENGINE OR TO SPRAY UP OVER THE WHEEL WELLS. SHORTLY AFTER THAT, THE STEERING AND BRAKES OF MY CAR QUIT WORKING. I OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW THAT THE DRIVE BELT WAS MISSING. THE NEXT DAY I HAD MY CAR TOWED AND THE PERSON TOWING THE CAR INDICATED THAT THIS TYPE OF FAILURE HAPPENED FREQUENTLY. ACCORDING TO THIS PERSON, THE DRIVE BELT HYDROPLANES WHEN SUBSTANTIALLY WET AND COMES OFF THE PULLEYS. I HAD THE DEALERSHIP FIX THE CAR AND WAS ASTOUNDED TO FIND OUT THAT FORD KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS NOT NOTIFIED THE OWNERS. ON THE INVOICE FOR THE REPAIR IT IS STATED THAT THE TENSIONER ON THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE UPDATED TO A TENSIONER WITH A RAIL. I WAS ALSO ASTOUNDED TO FIND OUT THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER THE WORK ($186.32). IF THIS KIND OF FAILURE CAN OCCUR AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 40 MPH, I BELIEVE THAT AN ACCIDENT COULD HAPPEN. *JB
WE TOOK THE FORD MUSTANG GT2002 TO METRO FORD IN TUEPLO, MISSISSIPPI DUE TO KNOCKING. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER THE ENTIRE MOTOR WAS OUT NEED TO BE REPLACE. WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY MOTOR PROBLEMS AT ANY TIMES. WE PROVIDED THE SERVICE MANAGER DOCUMENTS WE HAD REGULAR OIL/FILTER TO PREVENT INCIDENTS OF THIS NATURE. WE HAD WORK COMPLETED OR NOT COMPLETED IN DECEMBER 2005 DUE TO PREVIOUS WORK COMPLETED BY METRO FORD IN TUPELO, MISSISSIPPI THE MOTOR IS OUT. THEY WANT US TO PAY FOR A NEW MOTOR. AFTER FILING A COMPLAINT MARCH 10, 2005 THE SERVICE MANGER WITH METRO FORD HAD A OFFICER GO TO MY SON JOB ON MARCH 17, 2005 TO ESCORT HIM BACK TO METRO IN THE LOANER. THAT WAS HARASSMENT, EMBARRASSMENT AND VIOLATED LAW GOVERNING EMPLOYMENT HARASSMENT. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER TO REPLACE TWO EXHAUST MUFFLERS. AFTER TWO AND HALF MONTHS THE NEW STANLEY STEEL MUFFLERS BECAME SEVERELY RUSTED. WHEN THE SERVICE DEALER WAS ALERTED, THEY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY WARRANTY ON THE MUFFLERS.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELT WEBBING DID NOT RELEASE MORE THAN 3 INCHES. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE SEATBELT BECAME UNUSABLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED CONCERNING THE SEATBELT. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE DRIVING 30MPH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD NOT MOVE SMOOTHLY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. THE WIPERS MADE A THUMPING SOUND WHEN IN USE. THE WIPER BLADE ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED PREVIOUSLY BY THE DEALERSHIP DURING A ROUTINE INSPECTION. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE WIPERS WERE THE CORRECT TYPE FOR THE VEHICLE. IT IS ALSO DIFFICULT TO SEE THROUGH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WHEN IT IS RAINING. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT DETERMINE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSHIELD FOR VISIBILITY.

DT: THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER LOST TOTAL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE ROADS WERE DRY AND SHE WAS DRIVING 40-50 MPH. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SPIN AND HIT A GUARD RAIL. UPON IMPACT, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. SHE WAS UNAWARE IF ANYTHING WAS DONE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER STATED, AT THE SCENE, IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. SHE WAS UNSURE IF A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. *AK
FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED AFTER ONLY 6,600 MILES. COMPANY INDICATED NO RECALLS, BUT THIS SEEMS RIDICULOUS FOR SUCH LOW MILES. WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED 6 MONTHS BEFORE. VEHICLE ALWAYS HAD LOW POWER. *JB
FRONT SEAT BELT RETRACTORS DON'T WORK MOST OF THE TIME RESULTING IN LOOSE FIT. SEATBELT EVENTUALLY RETRACTS AFTER DRIVING FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. DEALER OFFERED TO INSTALL SOME SORT OF KIT FOR A HEFTY PRICE. IT SEEMS THIS MAY BE A COMMON COMPLAINT ON FORD VEHICLES. THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE SHOULD NOT FAIL DURING THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE.
DT: 2002 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONSUMER STATED THE EXHAUST INTAKE ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BROKE IN HALF. THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER DRIPPED ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER INTAKE. THIS CAUSED THE BREAK. FORD WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE EXHAUST WENT INTO THE ENGINE, AND THE PIPE WAS HANGING ON THE ROAD. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT FIX THE VEHICLE UNDER THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY. STARTED CAR IN PARKING LOT, RUMBLED VIOLENTLY. PUT CAR INTO DRIVE, TURNING OUT OF PARKING LOT CAR DIES AND AM ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. FUEL PUMP HAD GONE OUT ON CAR. NEW PUMP DIRECTLY FROM FORD DEALERSHIP WAS PUT INTO CAR. 3 WEEKS LATER I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT, CAR STARTED TO RUMBLE AGAIN, WAS ABLE TO CREEP THROUGH THE INTERSECTION BEFORE CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4 LANE HIGHWAY. FUEL PUMP AND FUEL PUMP FUSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*JB

2 DOOR FORD MUSTANG CONVERTABLE WAS INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH ANOTHER CAR ON SATURDAY 7/23/05 WITH 3 PEOPLE INJURED IN THE MUSTANG. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT ALL
WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS BEING PRESSED OR IS COMPLETELY PRESSED TO THE FLOOR, THE CAR ACCELERATES AND LUNGES FORWARD.
THE REAR WINDOW GOT BROKEN AND WHEN TO BE REPLACED WAS TOLD THE ROOF HAS A MANUFACTURED DEFAULT. FORD IS NOT WANTING TO FIX IT AND ARE PASSING ME AROUND TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE, BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE RESPONSABILIY FOR IT, MY WARRENTY, IS OUT BY ONE MONTH AND SO THEY SAY TO BAD FOR YOU. I CAN NOT GET NEW REAR WINDOW , BECAUSE WINDOW MAN SAYS IT WILL NOT BE PROPERLY INSTALLED,OVER THE RIDGES IN THE METAL, AND MAY NOT SEAL AND COME LOOSE. (NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX IT, I AM WAITING ON A CALL FROM FORD FOR THREE DAYS.)
DT: THE CONSUMERS 2002 FORD MUSTANG WAS PARKED AT A CURB AND TURNED OFF WHEN IT CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES. THERE WAS NO CRUISE CONTROL USED. ACCORDING TO THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL SHORT UNDERNEATH THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD THAT INDICATED A PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS FAIRLY NEW AND IN GOOD CONDITION. THE AREA AROUND THE BATTERY AND WIRING WAS BURNT. EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD MELTED AND WAS DESTROYED. THE INSIDE OF THE CAR DID NOT LOOK BURNED BECAUSE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS SO QUICK TO RESPOND. THE OWNER USUALLY KEPT THE VEHICLE PARKED IN THE GARAGE OR UNDER HIS PINE TREES. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. *AK *JB
2002 FORD MUSTANG V6 WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION. ENGINE INCREASES RPMS EVEN WHEN FOOT IS OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS HAPPENS IN GEAR AND BETWEEN SHIFTS. EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY, FORD REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY SAY THAT THIS IS "A NORMAL VEHICLE CHARACTERISTIC AND NO FURTHER REPAIRS SHOULD BE PERFORMED". THE PROBLEM IS CONSISTENT AND WORSENING. I THINK THIS IS DANGEROUS AND FORD SHOULD RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.
THE HEATER CORE FAILED ON MY 2002 FORD MUSTANG CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD TO FOG OVER WITH THE MOISTURE BEING RELEASED. *NM
I AM A COSIGNER ON A 2002 FORD MUSTANG-DANIEL BARKER COSIGNER WAS BRANDON VICK, ALSO, ON MY INSURANCE. ON 04-16-2005 BRANDON WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND ON HIGHWAY, 6 A MAJOR HIGHWAY RUNNING THROUGH BCS BETWEEN NAVASOTA AND HEAMPSTEAD, HE DROVE OVER A BRIDGE WHICH CHANGED TEXTURES, OR SLOPPED DOWN AND THE AIRBAGS IN DEPLOYED. BRANDON PULLED OVER SLOWLY AND CAME TO A STOP, PULLED OUT THE AIRBAGS AND DROVE AWAY.*AK 04-18-05-BRANDON TALKS TO INSURANCE AGENT WHO CALLS VARSITY FORD ABOUT FIXING THIS SINCE IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. THEY JUST SAY NO, IT WILL BE $2,000. CALLS THOMPSON COUNTRY FORD AND THEY SAY TO COME IN AND RUN MUSTANG UNDER DIAGNOSIS MACHINE. WORKERS SAY THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THE CODES MEAN AND ASKED BRANDON TO COME BACK WHEN MANAGER IS BACK. GOES BACK 04-22 MANAGER SAYS THEY WILL NOT FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY CAUSE IT HAS EXPIRED, THIS IS NOT TRUE.IT WAS INITITIALLY UNDERSTOOD BY ALL PARTIES FROM THE BOOK IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLE GLOVE COMPARTMENT THAT THIS VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY FOR AIRBAG SITUATIONS. THEN TOLD BRANDON NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THE CHARGE. THEN WHEN PROVED WRONG THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT DO IT CAUSE IT HAD CRASHED BUT REFUSED TO WRITE THIS ON PAPER UNLESS THEY WERE PAID $70. I WENT UP THERE AND PAID THEM $70. THEY WROTE THAT THE CAR WAS TRAVELLING DOWN HWY 6 AND HIT A POTHOLE. AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND CRASH IS DETECTED THEREFORE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, HOWEVER THEY DID NOT RELEASE CODES OR EXPLAIN WHAT ALL MEANT. THEY IMPLIED THAT CAR WAS CRASHED AND 'FIXED UP' FROM SAT TO MON. THEY ALSO WROTE ON PAPER THAT VEHICLES WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THEY WERE FALSIFYING THE TRUTH BY SAYING THAT CAR HIT A POTHOLE. THAT WAS NEVER SAID. THERE IS NO SIGN OF DAMAGE ON THE CAR, EXAMINED BY CLAIMS REP. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES THAT TRAVEL HWY 6 EVERYDAY AND DRIVE OVER THE SAME BRIDGE. NO MODIFICATIONS TO THIS VEHICLE. CLAIM WITH FARMERS PENDING HOWEVER MECHANICAL FAILURE IS EXCLUDED FROM POLICY.
DT: CONTACT STATES THE THROTTLE STICKS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. IT OVERRUNS THE BRAKE; IT DOES NOT THROTTLE DOWN; IT ACCELERATES WHILE BRAKING. HE DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE FOOT ON THE GAS AT ALL. HE NOTICED THIS HAPPENING A FEW MONTHS AGO AT HIGH SPEEDS OF 60-65 MPH. IT OCCURS MORE OFTEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN A DOWNWARD PITCH. IT HAS OCCURRED ON A BIG HILL AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO SURGE FORWARD WHILE HE WAS BRAKING. AFTER A BRIEF PERIOD IT DOES THROTTLE DOWN. HE HAS NOT TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER. HE HAS NOT YET TALKED TO THE MANUFACTURER. HE IS PLANNING TO TALK TO FORD SHORTLY. THE MANUFACTURER'S NAME, CITY, STATE WAS ALL THAT WAS AVAILABLE. *AK
WHILE ON DRY PAVEMENT AND ENTERING THE HIGHWAY BEHIND TWO VEHICLES CONSUMER'S VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE ROAD, HITTING THE SIDE OF AN EMBANKMENT. VEHICLE CONTINUED AND VEERED ONTO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RAMP. AFTER VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED REAR ROTOR BROKE ALONG WITH BENDING OF THE REAR AXLE. THE TERMINOLOGY WAS DESCRIBED AS THE MUSTANG WIGGLE OR SHUFFLE. I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A CONSTRUCTION SITE. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT ABOUT THE 4TH OR 5TH CAR BACK. I DROVE FORWARD AND AS I WAS COMING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WHERE THE WAS A CHANGE IN ROAD HEIGHT OF ABOUT 4 TO 5 INCHES. MY ENGINE CROSS MEMBER BOTTOMED OUT ON THE ROAD AND CAUSED MY AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. I WAS NOT TRAVELING VERY FAST, AT THE MOST 15 MPH. NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE OCCURRED EITHER. *JB
COMING OUT OF A RED LIGHT, I HEARD THE SOUND OF COMPRESSED AIR BEING BLOWN OUT. I IMMEDIATELY PARKED IN A LOCAL STORE PARKING LOT AND GOT TOWED TO A LOCAL PEP-BOYS. PEP-BOYS INDICATED THAT ONE OF MY SPARK PLUGS HAD BLOWN OUT AND THAT THE THREADING ON THE HEAD WAS DAMAGED. HOWEVER, THEY INDICATED THAT THEY DID NOT DO THAT TYPE OF REPAIR AND RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALER. THE FIRST TIME I CONTACTED FORD WAS WHEN I TOWED MY CAR TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER PERFORMING AN INSPECTION, THEY INDICATED THAT THE ONE OF MY SPARK PLUGS HAD BLOWN OUT AND THAT THE THREADING ON THE HEAD WAS DAMAGED. FORD INDICATED THAT THERE WERE TWO METHODS OF FIXING THE PROBLEM: 1.) I COULD REPLACE THE ENGINE HEAD (AND ASSOCIATED HARDWARE) ON THE SIDE THAT BLEW OUT. THIS OPTION WAS ESTIMATED AT APPROXIMATELY $3200.00. THIS OPTION HOWEVER ONLY INCLUDED 1 YR. WARRANTY ON THE SIDE THAT WOULD BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, FORD WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SAME PROBLEM COULDN'T OCCUR ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ENGINE OR TO ANOTHER SPARK PLUG. 2.) THE OTHER OPTION FORD RECOMMENDED WAS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE. THIS OPTION WOULD COST APPROX. $4565.00. THIS OPTION INCLUDED 3-YR OR 36,000 MILES OF WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE. THIS IS THE OPTION THAT I CHOSE. PRIOR TO TAKING THE CAR OUT OF THE DEALER, I ASKED THE SERVICE TECHINITIAN IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THAT I COULD DO TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. HE INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT I COULD DO. FURTHERMORE, HE INDICATED THAT THEY HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. HE EXPLAINED THAT THEY HAD SEEN THESE TYPES OF FAILURES ON FORD TRUCKS LIKE THE F-150 AND SPECIALLY THE F-250.
THE CAR HAD UNDER 38000 MILES ON IT BUT I HADN'T DRIVEN IT SINCE 4:30 PM BUT AT ABOUT 5 AM WOKE UP TO THE EXPLOSIONS AND THE CAR ENGULFED IN FLAMES. FORD HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE TO THIS SAYING THERE IS NO DEFECT, BUT IT IS SIMILAR TO THE EXPEDITIONS EXPLODING IN FLAMES FOR NO REASON THERE WERE NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE CAR OR ANY REASON FOR IT TO CATCH FIRE BY ITSELF THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS AND I DID NOT HAVE INSURANSE TO COVER IT BECAUSE I AM A SINGLE MOM AND WAS TRYING TO SAVE A FEW PENNIES AND HAD NO REASON TO BELIEVE THAT NEW OF A CAR WOULD GO UP IN FLAMES. *AK
DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR FAILED. THE PART HAD BEEN REPAIRED. HOWEVER, IT CONTINUED TO FAIL. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, CLUTCH AND BRAKE PRESSED CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE APPROACHING TRAFFIC, LEAVING THE CONSUMER WITH NO STEERING OR BRAKE POWER TO HANDLE THE CAR. CAR IMPACTED SUV. VEHICLE TOWED TO FORD DEALER.*AK
I HAVE HAD MY MUSTANG IN THE SHOP 7 TIMES TO REPAIR THE CHECK FUEL CAP LIGHT. THE CAR HAS STALLED ON ME SEVERAL TIMES. SENCE THE LAST TIME I HAD IT IN THE SHOP MY CAR GETS REALY BAD GAS MILEAGE. IT HAS RECENTLTY BEEN GIVING ME A HARD TIME SHIFTING. I HAVE A FEAR OF THE CAR STALLING ON THE FREEWAY OR CATCHING FIRE, BEACAUSE OF THE ELETRICAL PROBLEMS IN THE FUEL TANK. *LA
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND WHEN BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE PULLED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. *AK THERE WAS A CLUNK AFTER THE BRAKES WERE RELEASED, THE FRONT TIRES RUBBED ON THE FRAME WHEN TURNING, THREE BELTS WERE INSTALLED WITHIN 6000, THE VEHICLE SMELLED LIKE OIL, EVEN WITH THE A/C ON. THE MOTOR RATTLED BEFORE THE GEARS WERE SHIFTED, WITH THE A/C ON THE MOTOR WOULD SURGE UP AND DOWN TO THE POINT WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL. AFTER THE CONSUMER WOULD TAKE HIS FOOT OFF OF THE GAS THERE WOULD BE A SLIGHT ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE AND LUNGE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS SOMETIMES HARD TO START AND MUST BE CRANKED SEVERAL TIMES. THERE WAS A RATTLE IN THE REAR OF THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AS IF SOMETHING WAS LOOSE MOVING BACK AND FORTH. POOR ALIGNMENT HAD WORN THE TIRES ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE. THE BOLT FROM THE VEHICLE WAS FOUND IN THE DRIVEWAY, AND THE REAR WINDOW HAD AN AIR LEAK. *SC *JB

LAST SUMMER I PURCHASED A 2002 MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE. I NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE ROCK CHIPS IN THE HOOD WAS STARTING TO PEEL. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR AN ESTIMATE ON FIXING IT. THE BODY MAN LOOKED UP A TSB AND PRINTED IT OUT FOR ME. IT WAS THE BULLETIN ON SHEET METAL PRIMER. SEEMS THE MFG USED THE SAME PRIMER ON THE COMPOSITE PARTS AND AS A RESULT THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF THE ENTIRE HOOD. I CONTACTED A FORD EXECUTIVE AND WAS TOLD THAT FORD WOULD REPAINT MY HOOD WHEN IT STARTED TO RUST. MY ONLY QUESTION IS........WHEN DO COMPOSITE PARTS RUST? I MIGHT BE FEMALE BUT EVEN I KNOW THAT WHEN MY HOOD RUSTS THAT MEANS THE END OF THE WORLD IS NEAR. ALL I WANT IS FOR FORD TO STAND BEHIND WHAT THEY MAKE AND FIX THE PROBLEM. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH THE CONSUMER ENTERED A ONE WAY STREET THE WRONG WAY. THEN, CONSUMER'S VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON. CONSUMER WORE SEAT BELTS, BUT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. UPON IMPACT, DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES, AND THE POLICE DID MAKE A REPORT. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED IN THE COLLISION.*AK

WAS PULLED OVER BY POLICE WHEN ACCELERATOR STUCK, HE THOUGHT I WAS LYING SO I CONTACTED D.A. AND TICKET REDUCED TO BAD MUFFLER....RIGHT! TOOK AUTO TO DEALERSHIP AND WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM. CAR ALSO SHAKES BADLY AT SPEEDS ABOVE 45MPH, ALL THE TIME. PRIVATE GARAGE STATED PROBLEM NOT WITH SUSPENSION. *TR
THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT DOES NOT COME OUT OR RETRACT. IT STUCK IN A HALF WAY OUT POSITION. IT CANNOT BE USED. IT HAS BEEN REPLACE TWICE ONLY TO GO BACK THE EXACT SAME WAY AND IS NOT SAFE TO USE. THE COST IS OVER $400.00 TO FIX IF YOU FIND THE PART. *TR
WHILE DRIVING NORTH AT 45 MPH A VEHICLE TRAVELING SOUTH HIT CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HEAD ON. FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, AND DRIVER'S SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK. DRIVER'S HEAD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM FOR TREATMENT OF NECK PAIN AND INJURIES TO THE LEGS. *AK
THROW OUT BEARING HAS BEEN REPLACED 1 TIME. THE SECOND TIME, FORD MOTOR COMPANY 800 NUMBER WAS CALLED AND REPORTED. DEALER HAD CAR ALL DAY. AT 4:00 PM WE WERE CALLED AND INSTRUCTED THE CAR WAS READY-- COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THE SQUEAL WAS GONE. RETURNED LAST IN THE WEEK. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE THROW OUT BEARING AGAIN. CAR NOW HAS 40,000 MILES. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THE BEARING WILL BE REPLACED. CAR DRIVEN 80% ON INTERSTATE BY MIDDLE AGED WOMAN. *NM
2002 FORD MUSTANG 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE TREMEC 3650 TRANSMISSION HAS A FLAW TERMED "COLD GEAR CLASH" WHICH RESULTS IN GRINDING, HARD SHIFTS. HUNDREDS OF MUSTANG OWNERS ARE GETTING THE RUN AROUND BY FORD. WE ARE BEING TOLD THAT THIS IS "NORMAL." "NO EFFECT ON PERFORMANCE OR DURABILITY." *AK
