TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE DRIVER HAD TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE; HOWEVER, THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE BACK AND THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE BODY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT RECEIVED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
ENGAGED PARKING BREAK ON 5-SPEED MANUAL CAR OVERNIGHT. FOLLOWING MORNING AFTER COLD WEATHER (BELOW FREEZING), STARTED SMELLING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND NOTICING SMOKE WISPS COMING FROM REAR TIRES AFTER DRIVING FOR ROUGHLY 5-10 MINUTES. FRICTION BURN OCCURRED ON BOTH REAR DISC BRAKES. REAR DRIVER SIDE DISC DEVELOPED A CRACK THROUGH THE DISC WHICH REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. DISCS HAD >1000 MILES ON THEM AT THE TIME. LOST BRAKING ABILITY AND E-BRAKE WOULD NO LONGER ENGAGE SO UNABLE TO PARK ON ANY INCLINE UNTIL FIXED. *JS
PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED OVERNIGHT WHILE PARKED. TEMPERATURES WENT BELOW FREEZING. NEXT MORNING, RELEASED PARKING BRAKE AND BEGAN DRIVING. ACCELERATION WAS SLUGGISH AND I COULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNING. REAR BRAKE DISCS WERE EXTREMELY HOT AFTER .5 MI OF DRIVING. UPON REMOVAL OF THE WHEELS, THE PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE PAD HAD BEEN GLAZED AND WAS EXTREMELY HOT. BRAKE CALIPER FROZE IN THE ENGAGED POSITION DO TO MULTIPLE CRACKS AND DETERIORATION OF THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE BOOT. FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL DESPITE REPORTS OF PARKING BRAKE CABLE FAILURE CAUSING POOR BRAKING WHILE MOVING OR NO BRAKING WHILE PARKED AND CARS ROLLING IN TO TRAFFIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD MUSTANG GT CONVERTIBLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE IGNITION WAS STARTED A CABLE DETACHED FROM THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHEN DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
THE E BRAKES FREEZE AND WONT RELEASE SO THE E BRAKES IN THE WINTER ARE USELESS IF YOU USE THEM, YOU ARE STUCK.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 FORD MUSTANG WITH A STANDARD TRANSMISSION. THIS MORNING (WITH OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES IN THE 20S) AS I STARTED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY TO GO TO WORK, MY CAR STALLED. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND TRIED ONE MORE TO MOVE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. ON THE THIRD ATTEMPT, I WAS APPLIED MORE FUEL TO GET THE CAR MOVING, BUT MY BACK WHEELS WERE VERY HESITANT (AS IF THE BRAKES WERE LOCKED UP). I DROVE THE CAR SEVERAL BLOCKS TO MY REPAIR FACILITY. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR, I COULD SMELL THAT THE BRAKES HAD GOTTEN HOT. MY SERVICE ASSOCIATE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE GARAGE AND PUT IT ON THE LIFT TO INSPECT. HE STATED THAT THE BRAKES HAD SEIZED (UNKNOWN REASON AT THIS TIME). UPON REMOVAL OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS, MOST LIKELY, SOME MOISTURE IN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LINE AND THAT DURING THE SHORT TIME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE HEATED GARAGE THE LINE HAD UNFROZEN (MELTED). HE SUGGESTED THAT I NOT USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FOR PARKING IN SUBFREEZING TEMPS. HE ALSO STATED THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND THAT I SHOULD CONTACT FORD FOR FINAL RESOLUTION. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHO READ A BULLETIN CONFIRMING THAT FORD IS, IN FACT, AWARE OF THIS DEFECT IN THE ORIGINAL EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE / BOOT. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN WENT ON TO SAY THAT FORD HAS AN IMPROVED PART AND THAT THE BOOT AND CABLE LINING HAVE NEW FEATURES TO RESOLVE THE DEFECT. I THEN CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO ALSO ACKNOWLEDGED THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT, BUT AT THIS TIME THERE IS NO RECALL AND THAT FORD'S CURRENT POLICY DISALLOWS REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE STATED DEFECT. FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH TO MYSELF, PASSENGERS AND ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE IN THE VICINITY DURING A FAILURE WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. AT THIS POINT, I OBVIOUSLY NEED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. SINCE THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALL FORD HAS DECLINED REIMBURSEMENT. *TR
MY BRAKES STARTED MAKING A NOISE SO I DECIDED TO GET THEM CHECKED. THE DEALER SAID MY EMERGENCY CABLE HAD SLIPPED AND FELL ON MY ROTOR AND SPLIT IT. THEY HAD TO REPLACE BOTH CABLES,MY BACK BRAKES MY ROTOR, FLUSH OUT MY BRAKE FLUID AND REPLACE IT I CALLED THE FORD CONTACT NUMBER AND THE PERSON I TALKED TO YOU TOOK THE INFORMATION DOWN AND ASK IF I THOUGHT FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO FIX MY CAR I SAID YES BECAUSE I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND A LOT OF 2005 FOR MUSTANGS THAT HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THEIR EMERGENCY BRAKES AND CABLE. I THINK THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS. SOME OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE STATES THE FORD PUTS OUT AN INTERNAL MEMO BUT WILL NOT RECALL IT. NO AT MY DEALERSHIP CAN EXPLAIN HOW THIS HAPPEN. WHEN I PICKED MY CAR BACK UP I ASKED IS THERE A WAY I WILL KNOW THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN THEY SAID THESE CABLE HAVE BETTER RUBBER ON THEM. THIS MAKES ME THINK THAT THE ONES PUT ON THE 2005 MUSTANG WERE NOT GOOD SO THEY MADE NEW ONES BETTER. I HAVE A 2005 MUSTANG THAT THE PARKING BRAKE HAS FROZEN ON 3 TIMES SINCE 2006 AND ON ANOTHER OCCASION HAD THE PARKING BRAKE CABLES HANGING DOWN BY THE REAR TIRES. THE PARKING BRAKE CABLES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE ALREADY. *TR
MY DATES AND MILEAGE MAY BE OFF. I PURCHASED MY MUSTANG USED AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP WITH THE WARRANTY AND EXTENDED WARRANTY AND ABOUT TWO MONTHS LATER MY BACK WHEELS LOCKED UP ON ME. I PULLED INTO THE FORD COMPANY AND THEY TOOK A LOOK AT IT AND UNLOCKED THE WHEELS CHARGING ME $70 SAYING IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD BY THE TECH THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE HAD FROZE UP CAUSING THE TIRES TO LOCK UP. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY AND IT WOULD COST BY CLOSE TO $600 TO FIX. THE GENTLEMAN TOLD ME AT THAT TIME TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH FORD BECAUSE IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. I DID FILE THAT COMPLAINT BACK THEN AND NOTHING EVER BECAME OF IT. I NEVER HAD IT FIXED BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE $600 AND THEREFORE I DO NOT USE MY E-BRAKE WHICH IS DANGEROUS! I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND THAT OTHERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH THERE CAR. OVER THE WINTER MY FORD 2005 MUSTANG V6 HAD AN ISSUE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WOULD FREEZE UP. YOU WOULD NOT BEAGLE TO MOVE THE CAR, UNTIL THE THING D-ICED. NOW MONTHS LATER, DUE TO THIS ISSUE HAPPENING IN THE WINTER, FINALLY THE E BRAKE GOT STUCK IN A POSITION WHERE THE CAR COULD DRIVE, BUT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE TORE UP IN THE PROCESS. THE DEALER IS GOING TO CHARGE ME $700 DOLLARS TO HAVE ALL THIS FIXED (NEW REAR BRAKES AND TO FIX THE CABLE) FORD PUT OUT AN INTERNAL MEMO ABOUT THIS ISSUE, WHY IS THERE NO RECALL ON IT. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT A SECOND RECALL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED PERTAINING TO THE BRAKE LINES AND HOSES. THE NOTICE ALSO STATED THAT VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN AND THE SERVICE DEALERS WOULD ARRANGE FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE TOWED. THE DEALERS AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED AND WILL NOT HONOR OR ACKNOWLEDGE THE RECALL SERVICE AND TOWING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REMEDIED OR PROVIDED TOWING TO THE SERVICE DEALERS.
RIGHT BRAKE STICKS CAUSING ROTORS AND PADS TO HEAT UP AND CATCH ON FIRE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PADS AND ROTORS AND I HAD TO PAY FOR IT. THE PROBLEM STILL THERE. I HAVE ALSO READ FORUMS ONLINE WHERE OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THE BRAKE CATCH FIRE DUE TO IT CATCHING. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALER ADMITTED THAT THE CALIPER WAS NOT WORKING RIGHT, BUT DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE IT. MY DEALER WILL NOT FIX PROBLEM OR EVER LOOK AT THE ROTOR THAT IS ALREADY TORN UP AND OVER HEATER AGAIN AFTER ONLY 2 DAYS OF DRIVING. I DON'T KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS BEEN INJURED OR KILLED, BUT I AM SURE IF THIS IS NOT LOOKED INTO SOMEONE WILL BE SOON. I AM NOT THE ONLY OWNER THAT IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. DEALER TRIED TO CLAIM WE DROVE WITH E-BRAKE ON. IT WAS NOT ON. VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT AS IF IT WAS A ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. WHEN I STOPPED THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE. DT: CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A SMALL AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID THAT WAS LEAKING FROM THE CAP ON THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE SERVICE DEALER REPLACED THE CAP ON THE MASTER CYLINDER TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THIS DID NOT STOP THE BRAKE FLUID FROM LEAKING. THE CONCERN WAS THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING ONTO THE STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLE. OVER TIME, THIS MAY CAUSE EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON THE STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL FOR THIS MODEL. ANOTHER COMPLAINT THE CONTACT STATED T WAS THAT HE POWER DRIVEN SEAT MADE A CREAKING NOISE. THE DEALER WOULD ADJUST THE SEAT TO KEEP IT FROM CREAKING. THE CONCERN WAS THAT IF HE HAS TO ADJUST THE SEAT WHILE DRIVING IT MAY CAUSE THE CONTACT TO BECOME DISTRACTED AND COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 FORD MUSTANG GT COUPE NORTHBOUND ON A 35-MPH CITY STREET. I WAS PREPARING TO TURN INTO A BUSINESS DRIVEWAY. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE INTO THE TURN THE (ABS) LIGHT LIT UP ON THE DASH CONSOLE AS WELL AS ''CHECK TRAC CONTROL'' ON THE HEADS UP DISPLAY. IN THAT VERY INSTANT THE BRAKES BECAME ''LIGHT AND MUSHY'' CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE TRACTION WHILE TURNING. THE END RESULT OF THIS WAS THAT THE VEHICLE STRUCK THE CURB INSIDE THE DRIVEWAY ENTRANCE. THE DRIVER''S FRONT TIRE HIT THE CURB WITH A SOLID IMPACT. THIS CAUSED SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE RIM, TIRE, FRONT AXLE, AND PROBABLY SOME OTHER UNDERLYING DAMAGE THAT IS YET TO BE DETERMINED. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY SOME ONE MAY HAVE BEEN KILLED. I DO NOT IF THIS IS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD MAKE SOME ONE AWARE JUST IN CASE.
