GEAR SHIFT LOCKS AND REFUSES TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE GEAR. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE EXITING THE INTERSTATE, AFTER DECELERATING, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE HESITATED THEN SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD. THIS OCCURRED ON THREE OCCASIONS, THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A PROBLEM. UPDATED 5/2/2006 - EACH TIME THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED FOR OVER 2 HOURS. *NM
2006 MUSTANG GT BUILT JAN 2006 HAS PROBLEMS DURING FUELING OPERATIONS. UNABLE TO GET MORE THAN 1/2 TO 3/4 FULL TANK DUE TO FUEL PUMP CUT-OFF. MOST LIKELY CAUSE IS DEFECTIVE DESIGN OF "SADDLEBAG" FUEL TANK AND INADEQUATE TANK VENT. THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE "REVISED" FUEL SYSTEM WHICH HAS BEEN SUBJECT TO THE SAME PROBLEMS REPORTED WITH THE EARLIER DESIGN. THIS PROBLEM GREATLY DIMINISHES ENJOYMENT OF VEHICLE AND DECREASES THE VALUE AS THE CAR HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM. *JB
WATER LEAKING UNDER DASH ON PASSENGER SIDE OF MY FORD MUSTANG GT 2006 MODEL. IT HAS PROGRESSIVLY OVER TIME GOTTEN WORSE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
STRESS FRACTURES ON FORWARD FACE OF REAR SPOILER ATTACH STRUTS (BOTH MOUNTS). VEHICLE LESS THEN A MONTH OLD WITH LESS THEN 600 MILES. 2006 FORD MUSTANG GT. NO APPARENT REASON FOR CRACKS IN COMPOSITE SPOILER. CRACKS ARE NOT SURFACE CRACKS (VERY DEEP) AND DO AFFECT SPOILER MOUNT INTEGRITY. FRACTURES ARE LOCATED ON THE FORWARD FACE / BOTTOM OF THE STRUTS, CENTERED AND STARTING AT FORWARD MOUNT BOLTS AND EXTENDING UPWARD. SUSPECT SPOILER ATTACH NUTS ON STUDS, OVER TORQUED DURING FACTORY INSTALLATION. MULTIPLE FISSURES EXTEND OVER TWO INCHES ON EACH STRUT AND MAY RESULT IN SPOILER DETACHING FROM TRUNK DECK LID. FORD DECLINED WARRANTY REPAIR, STATING CRACKS WERE CAUSED FROM "AN OUTSIDE SOURCE." FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE IN COMPOSITES, AS AN AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, SUSPECT STRESS FRACTURES FROM MOUNTING ERROR, EXPOSED VIA AIRFLOW OVER SPOILER, CREATING A DOWN FORCE AND OVER LOADING STRUT MOUNTS. TWO SEPARATE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AGREED THAT FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY IMPROPER MOUNTING OF SPOILER AND NOT CAUSED BY OWNER. FORD WARRANTY DOES NOT AGREE, BUT DOES AGREE THAT SPOILER MUST BE REPLACED IF EXHIBITING THESE CRACKS AS THIS MAY CAUSE INJURY / DAMAGE TO OTHER PERSONS / VEHICLES AS SPOILER MAY DETACH WHILE VEHICLE IN MOTION. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 20-25 MPH GOING INTO A RIGHT HAND TURN THE CAR MADE A LOUD POP. THE LEFT REAR TIRE LOST CONTROL. THE REAR END WITH POWER ONLY ON THE GOOD WHEEL WAS LOSING CONTROL AND WITHIN A SECOND THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WAS OFF THE WHEEL. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN 1 CITY BLOCK TO THE CLOSEST PLACE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. BOTH LEFT FRONT AND REAR WHEELS ARE DESTROYED FROM CRUNCHING ON THE CONCRETE THE ONE BLOCK OF DRIVING TO GET SAFELY OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC. ONCE STOPPED THE CAR COULD NOT BE DRIVEN. HAD TO CALL 24 HR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO TOW THE VEHICLE. A PRELIMINARY LOOK AT A FORD SERVICE GARAGE FOUND THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM TOTALLY SEPARATED FROM IT'S ATTACHMENT POINT. THE REAR SWAY BAR AND THE REAR AXLE HAD BEEN SHIFTED OUT OF POSITION ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC. THIS CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, AVERAGING 33 OR SO MILES A DAY ON HIGHWAY, AND STATE MAINTAINED ROADS ONLY. THERE IS NO REASON I KNOW OF FOR THIS OUTSIDE OF A MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN THE ASSEMBLY OF THE VEHICLE. LOOKS LIKE A RECALL OF 2006 MUSTANG GT'S WOULD BE APPROPRIATE. HAD I BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ALIVE TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT. I'M OUTRAGED TO SAY THE LEAST, BUT ALSO DISAPPOINTED. AGAIN, THE FACT THAT THE LEFT WHEELS WERE DESTROYED ALONG WITH THE TIRES WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN HAS INDICATED TO ME THE VEHICLE PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE CAR DID HAVE FACTORY INSTALLED TRACTION CONTROL WHICH I ASSUME MAY HAVE HELPED KEEP THE CAR FROM CRASHING INTO A HOUSE WHEN THE REAR END LOST CONTROL IN THE TURN. NEVERTHELESS IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT I THINK ALL MUSTANG OWNERS OF THE 2006 GT SHOULD BE AWARE OF. FORD SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF IT ALSO. THE FINAL ASSEMBLY LOCATION IS SHOWN AS FLATROCK MICHIGAN. I CAN'T SAY I HAVE ANY DESIRE TO DRIVE A MUSTANG EVER AGAIN, EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS THE FIRST ONE I HAVE BOUGHT. *NM
OUR FORD MUSTANG GT THAT WAS PURCHASED FOR OUR 17 YR OLD DAUGHTER WAS PURCHASED 2-21-2006 IT HAD ITS FIRST PROBLEMS AT 629 MILES ON 3-4-2006 THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED SOME FOLLOWERS AND SOME LIFTERS AND SOME CAMSHAFT PARTS. WE'VE BEEN TOLD ALL SHOULD BE REPLACED THE WHOLE BANK. DEALER WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT CAR STARTED SMOKING A WEEK LATER AND MAKING TICKING NOISE AGAIN. DEALER SAID IT DIDN'T DO IT THERE SO NOTHING WAS DONE. NEXT, CAR STARTED HESITATING AFTER DRIVING ON HWY COUPLE HRS. DEALERSHIP REPLACED FUEL PUMP AND GEAR BOX WAS HOT AND RATTLING SO THEY REPLACED IT. THEN CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN FROM 50 TO 90 MILES HR. DEALERSHIP COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING THAT WAS AT 8300 MILES NOW AT 9700 MILES CAR HAS TAKING OFF AGAIN FROM 40 TO 80 WHEN OUR DAUGHTER PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD OUR DAUGHTER AND HER FRIENDS ARE TO AFRAID TO DRIVE IT NOW AND ITS BEEN AT DEALERSHIP FOR 2 FULL WEEKS ALSO THE PAINT ON THE PASSENGER REAR FENDER IS BUBBLING OFF THE CAR. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT, PROBABLY ALREADY HAVE DIED BUT KNOW ONE HAS CHECKED INTO IT. SORRY ABOUT WORDING YOU ONLY GET 2000 WORDS TO DESCRIBE EVERYTHING. ON 3 OCCASIONS WHEN I DID NOT LEAVE MY CAR IN GEAR EVEN THOUGH I ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON A FLAT SURFACE MY CAR ROLLED SO THE E BRAKE DOES NOT WORK I ALWAYS LEAVE MY CAR IN GEAR NOW. *TR
ON 2006 MUSTANG GT, EXPERIENCED ERRATIC FUEL GAUGE READING ONCE FUEL LEVEL DROPPED BELOW 1/2 TANK. EXPERIENCED FAILURE DURING INITIAL START OF VEHICLE FOR THE DAY. APPROX. 3/8 TANK AVAILABLE WHEN VEHICLE TURNED OFF PREVIOUS NIGHT. GAUGE READ "E" WITH "0 MILES TO EMPTY" ON DIGITAL DISPLAY. *JB
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2006 MUSTANG AND ON THE TWO OCCASIONS I HAVE HAD TO PUT GAS IN THE TANK, BOTH TIMES PRIOR TO THE PUMP DISCHARGE SHUTTING OFF, FUEL HAS SPEWED OUT OF THE FILLER NECK AND DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR. I HAVE USED TWO DIFFERENT STATIONS WITH THE SAME RESULTS. I ALSO TALKED TO A COWORKER WHO OWNS A 2005 MUSTANG AND HE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM, AND ONLY AVOIDS THE PROBLEM BY PUTTING IN A FEW DOLLARS WORTH OF GAS AT A TIME. NEVER FILLING UP. I'M WORRIED THAT MY DAUGHTER WHO FREQUENTLY DRIVES THE CAR, COULD BE PLACED IN A BAD SITUATION SHOULD A FIRE BREAK OUT. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT GETS WARMER OUTSIDE. *NM
TRAVELING ON SATURDAY EVENING ON 2/4/06, ROADS SOMEWHAT SLICK, SNOW TURNING TO BLACK ICE ON ROAD. LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE ON BLACK ICE DOING 30-35 MPH ON RESIDENTIAL STREET. CAR FISH TAILED HIT CURB WITH RIGHT REAR, WHICH SPUN CAR INTO ROADWAY, HIT RIGHT FRONT ON OPPOSITE CURB. CAR UNDER CONTROL AFTER THAT. LOST RIGHT REAR TIRE / WHEEL ASSEMBLY BROKE OFF THE AXLE-AT INITIAL IMPACT- HOWEVER NO DAMAGE TO TIRE, RIM SLIGHT DENT. AFTER ACCIDENT LOOKED AT AXLE-SEEMED POROUS, CONCERNED...POOR QUALITY, POOR MANUFACTURING. CONTACTED INSURANCE, TOWED VEHICLE TO DEALER. WAITING FOR ADJUSTER TO LOOK AT VEHICLE. *JB
2006 FORD MUSTANG EXHIBITING HESITATION UPON ACCELERATION ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WHILE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. FEELS AS IF CAR HAS STALLED THEN SLING SHOTS CAR INTO TRAFFIC. EACH INCIDENT NEARLY RESULTING IN ACCIDENTS. DEALERSHIP CAN'T DUPLICATE PROBLEM AND THEREFORE CAN'T MAKE ANY REPAIRS TO CAR. NO SENSOR ERRORS OR MESSAGES WHEN CHECKED, BUT OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A MALFUNCTION WITH ELECTRONIC &/OR SENSORS FROM GAS PEDAL TO ENGINE. *JB
HESITATION AT ACCELERATION AND UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. HESITATION WAS NOT CORRECTED AT DEALERSHIP, I CORRECTED THROUGH COMPUTER REPROGRAM WITH DIABLO PROGRAMMER TO DECREASE AMOUNT OF THROTTLE DELAY, HESITATION GONE. UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CORRECTED BY MODIFYING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO INCREASE DISTANCE BETWEEN GAS AND BRAKE PEDALS WHICH ARE EXTREMELY TO CLOSE, SOLVED PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP MECHANICS ARE INEPT AND UNSKILLED. TOOK ME HALF HOUR TO IDENTIFY AND CORRECT PEDAL ISSUE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE GAS TANK WITH GASOLINE, AND ONCE THE TANK IS HALF FULL, THE GAS WILL BACK UP THROUGH THE FILLER NECK AND SPILL OUT OF THE SPOUT ONTO THE VEHICLE. THIS IS INTERMITTENT IN NATURE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SEEN BY A DEALER. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE FILLER NECK WAS FUNCTIONING NORMAL. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INSTRUCTED THE CONTACT TO USE A DIFFERENT GAS STATION THAT OFFERED A DIFFERENT TYPE OF GAS PUMP NOZZLE. THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUSPECTED THE GAS PUMP WAS FORCING THE GASOLINE INTO THE TANK AT A HIGH RATE WHICH RESULTED IN THE LEAK. THE CONTACT DID AS INSTRUCTED BY THE DEALER, BUT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE TANK, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. *AK
WHEN FILING GAS TANK WITH THE FUEL NOZZLE SET FOR FAST DELIVERY, THE GAS OVERFLOWS ONTO THE CAR. IT DOES NOT TRIGGER THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF ON THE FUEL NOZZLE. DEALER INDICATED THAT THIS IS THE "NEW" TANK DESIGN WHICH CONSISTS OF TWO CHAMBERS. THE RIGHTMOST CHAMBER FILLS FIRST AND THEN OVERFLOWS INTO THE SECOND CHAMBER. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT GAS SUPPLIERS, DIFFERENT BRANDS, AND EVEN DIFFERENT STATES. THE ONLY WAY TO GUARANTEE THAT THERE WILL NOT BE OVERFLOW ONTO THE CAR IS TO CHECK THE GALLONS USED AND SLOW DOWN THE FLOW SO THAT THE NOZZLE TRIGGER GETS TRIPPED. DEALER HAS NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. *JB
TOOK DELIVERY OF MUSTANG PREMIUM CONVERTIBLE (V6) ON 1/6/2006. DROVE HOME 17 MILES. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A FULL STOP AND TURNING ONTO SIDE STREET, THE ENGINE APPEARED TO ACCELERATE AND THEN STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. DURING SUBSEQUENT DRIVES, ENGINE APPEARS TO ACCELERATE FROM A FULL STOP BUT THEN STALLS. IF ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED QUICKLY ENOUGH, THE ENGINE DOES NOT STOP; HOWEVER, IT MAY EXHIBIT THE STALL A SECOND TIME. DEALER INDICATES THAT NO INFORMATION IS RECORDED ON COMPUTER INDICATING REASON FOR FAILURE. THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. NEXT STEP IS TO INSTALL A "BLACK BOX" TO RECORD EVENT ACTIVITY DURING THE STALL. THIS DOES NOT OCCUR WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. IT ALSO IS VERY INTERMITTENT BUT, IF IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN, IT WILL BE FOLLOWING A FULL STOP. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. THE FAILURE CAN OCCUR DURING A TURN ACROSS TRAFFIC OR WHILE MOVING STRAIGHT AHEAD FROM THE STOP - EITHER OF WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. *JB
I AM HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME FILLING THE TANK OF THE 2006 MUSTANG GT. THE AUTOMATIC PUMP IS TRIGGERED ALL THE TIME, AND ONLY ALLOWS A SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS TO BE PUMPED. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE GAS INDICATOR IN THE DASHBOARD TELL ME I WAS ON EMPTY WHEN I WAS NOT. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY DIRECTLY, AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM THEY RECOGNIZE OR HAVE EVER HEARD OF. THEY ALSO WILL NOT COVER ANY COST TO REPAIR OR DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM.*AK

SINCE THE PURCHASE OF A 2006 MUSTANG GT I HAVE EXPERIENCED TROUBLE IN FILLING THE GAS TANK. AFTER SO MUCH GAS HAS ENTERED THE TANK THE GAS STARTS TO SPEW BACK OUT ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. TO ME THIS CREATES A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD IF THE GAS WERE TO SPEW BACK ONTO THE PERSON FUELING THE CAR. I HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS TO I KNOW THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE SOME KIND OF RECALL AND FORD SHOULD BUY BACK ALL OF THESE VEHICLES THAT AREN'T SAFE TO FUEL. NO VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO OTHER HUMANS ON THE ROAD AND SOMETIMES FACTORY ERROR BUT THERE IS NO REASON TO NOT FEEL SAFE TO FUEL YOUR VEHICLE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PUTTING FUEL IN THE VEHICLE THE FUEL NOZZLE MUST BE HELD IN A CERTAIN POSITION TO OBTAIN A CORRECT READING FROM THE FUEL GAUGE. BEFORE PUTTING FUEL INTO THE VEHICLE THE FUEL GAUGE READ HALF A TANK, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PUT FUEL INTO THE VEHICLE IT SHOWED FULL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED THE STORAGE TANK. HOWEVER, THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM.
I HAVE HAD 2 RECALLS, FOR BOTH DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS. IN BOTH INSTANCES, IT TAKES A VERY LONG TIME TO GET THESE REPLACED. MEANTIME I AM DRIVING AROUND IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. WHEN I ASKED FOR A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE UNTIL MINE IS REPAIRED, I WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T DO THAT. IT WAS BAD ENOUGH WHEN IT WAS ON MY SIDE, BUT NOW IT'S ON THE SIDE WHERE MY MOTHER, WHO SUFFERS FROM DEMENTIA, USUALLY SITS. I HAVE ENOUGH TO WORRY ABOUT WITH HER, WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT THE AIRBAG DEPLOYING AND INJURING OR KILLING HER. I PURCHASED THEIR PRODUCT IN GOOD FAITH, AND NOW, THROUGH NO FAULT OF MY OWN, I AM FORCED TO DRIVE AROUND IN A POSSIBLE DEATH TRAP. I DON'T THINK ASKING FOR A TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT VEHICLE IS AN UNREASONABLE REQUEST.
CONSUMER COMPLAINT ABOUT FORD MOTOR COMPANY. CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE HIS VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP FOR A RECALL, THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE HIM A LOANER CAR. MANUFACTURER TOLD HIM THEY DID NOT VIOLATE THE FEDERAL STANDARD. *KB THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONSUMER IT WAS AT THE DEALERS DISCRETION TO PROVIDE A LONER VEHICLE. *JB
