TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR FORD RECALL NUMBER 05S28/NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V336000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) IN AUGUST OF 2007. SHE CALLED FORD PERIODICALLY AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN DECEMBER. WHEN SHE CALLED IN DECEMBER, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN APRIL OF 2008. SHE THEN CALLED ANOTHER DEALER WITHIN THE AREA AND THEY STATED THE SAME THING. THEY ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT TO BRING IN THE RECALL NOTICE AND THEN THEY WOULD ORDER THE PART TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE DEACTIVATION SWITCH HAS NOT BEEN DISCONNECTED. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,400.
I HAVE A 2000 RANGER XLT, WITH A RECALL FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL. I HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE AUGUST 2007 FOR THIS TO BE REPAIRED. I WAS TOLD THAT NOW I CAN'T GET IT REPAIRED UNTIL THE MIDDLE OF JAN. 2008. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY, IF THIS IS AN OFFICIAL RECALL, THAT THIS HAS TO WAIT THIS LONG AND I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH NO CRUISE CONTROL. THIS DOES NOT MAKE ME ANXIOUS TO PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT. *TR
FORD RECALLED MY FORD RANGER FOR A REPAIR IN AUGUST TO REPLACE THE SCDS SPEED CONTROL SWITCH, I HAVE CONTACTED LOCAL DEALER, WHERE I BOUGHT VEHICLE, EACH MONTH AND HAVE BEEN TOLD NO PARTS, NOT SURE WHEN. SINCE THEN THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS QUIT AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT A FAILURE, WHICH IS REPORTED TO BE FIRE. *TR
MY 2000 FORD RANGER WAS RECALLED DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE CRUISE CONTROL. MY DEALERSHIP DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL IN NOVEMBER, 2007 AND AS OF TODAY, STILL HAS NO IDEA AS TO WHEN A REPLACEMENT PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE RISING FROM UNDER THE WINDSHIELD. HE PULLED OVER AND DISCOVERED FLAMES COMING FROM THE FRONT TIRES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH SAND AND WATER. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 90,000.
THE TWO RODS THAT HOLD THE FOAM IN THE BACK OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE. THEY JUST SNAPPED INTO TWO PIECES. IF THE VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, THE SEAT WILL NOT SUPPORT THE DRIVES BACK OR HOLD THEM FROM GETTING PUSHED INTO THE OUTER SEAT FRAME.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH SHE HEARD A LOUD CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE STEERING RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER MADE THE REPAIR AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO OTHER OCCURRENCES. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT THE CONTACT DRIVE THE VEHICLE TWENTY MILES THEN RETURN FOR A FOLLOW-UP. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,310 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,331.
MY AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT I WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS AND ALSO BROKE MY CHIN I HAVE A PERMANENT SCAR. SOME ONE IS GOING TO FIX IT. IT IS VERY ABNORMAL AND GROSS TO LOOK AT IT. *JB
ENGINE FIRE IN 2000 FORD RANGER 4X4 PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF OCCOURED DEC 31ST 2006 APPROX. 4:00 PM. I HAVE REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD GET ME A RESPONSE LETTER IN 7-10 DAYS. I DID NOT HAVE FULL COVERAGE AS THE VEHICLE WAS PAID FOR W/ 131K MILES BUT PLANNED ON DRIVING THE TRUCK 100K MORE. I BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS CAUSED DUE TO THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH I HAVE FOUND OUT ABOUT ON THE WEB BUT DUE TO NOT HAVING FULL COVERAGE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR AN INVESTIGATION MYSELF THAT I CAN NOT AFFORD. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE SITTING IN THE VEHICLE, THE BACK OF THE SEAT FELL BACKWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE RECLINER MECHANISM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 12/05/06. *JB
IN OCTOBER OF 2006 THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN MY 2000 4X4 FORD RANGER BEGAN TO NOT ENGAGE IN PARK WHEN I WOULD STOP AND PARK THE TRUCK. THE INDICATOR WOULD ALSO NOT STOP ON THE GEAR THAT THE TRUCK WAS IN. AFTER CHECKING THE TRANSMISSION SELECTOR CABLE RUN AND ADJUSTING IT WHERE IT ENTERS THE TRANSMISSION THE PROBLEM WAS A LITTLE BETTER. IN ABOUT TWO WEEKS THE PROBLEM BEGAN AGAIN AND I LOOKED AT THE COMPONENTS I HAD LOOKED AT BEFORE AND EVERYTHING WAS THE SAME. AT THAT TIME I ALSO GOT A MIRROR AND LIGHT AND LOOKED UNDER THE DASH AT THE BACK OF THE GEAR SELECTOR AND SAW TWO STAR DRIVE SCREWS. I PUT A STAR DRIVE ON MY DRIVER AND FOUND BOTH SCREWS TURNED EASILY. AFTER TIGHTENING THE SCREWS THE SHIFTING MECHANISM STAYED ON EACH GEAR AS IT SHOULD HAVE AND ENGAGED ALL GEARS AND PARK. THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS WERE, THAT, BEFORE IT WAS FIXED I WOULD STOP THE TRUCK "PUT IT IN PARK" GET OUT, AND THE TRUCK WOULD START ROLLING. FORTUNATELY, I BEGAN USING THE PARKING BRAKE BEFORE I FIGURED OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I ONLY USE MY TRUCK ON ROUGH ROADS ABOUT 5% OF THE TIME. SINCE THIS PART IS IN A REALLY OUT OF SIGHT PLACE THE SCREWS SHOULD HAVE SOME EXTRA LOCKING MECHANISM OR ADHESIVE ON THEM BECAUSE THE CONSUMER OR MECHANIC IS NOT GOING TO LOOK FOR THE PROBLEM WHICH IS OUT OF SIGHT AND IN A HARD TO REACH PLACE. *NM
WITH ALL THIS ATTENTION BEING PAID ABOUT TOYOTA,I THINK ITS ABOUT TIME I MENTION THE PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATOR ON MY FORD RANGER.TWICE IT HAS STUCK ON ME AND I WAS VERY LUCKY IT HAPPENED ON RURAL ROADS.BOTH TIMES THE RPM"S SHOT UP TO 5000,AND I LOST MY BRAKES COMPLETELY.I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE SITUATION BY TURNING THE KEY OFF AND LETTING THE VEHICLE ROLL TO A STOP AFTER GOING THRU A STOP SIGN.THAT FIRST TIME I LET THE TRUCK SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES,I DIDN"T KNOW WHAT TO DO ,AND IT SETTLED ITSELF DOWN,BECAUSE IT SEEMED FINE,RAN GOOD.THE SECOND TIME WAS THE SAME SENERIO,BUT THIS TIME I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT SETTLE DOWN.MY MECHANIC DIDN"T GIVE ME A VERY GOOD EXPLANATION OF WHAT HE DID TO FIX THE PROBLEM.I DID STOP AT THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM,AND THEY LOOKED AT ME LIKE I HAD TWO HEADS.THEY DIDN"T SEEM TO CARE. *CN
SPEED CONTROL ON WHEEL FAILED THROWING THE TRANSMISSION INTO FIRST GEAR, JUST LIKE THE RECENT RECALL ON NEWER FORD PICKUPS I WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET GOING STRAIGHT.
I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN, UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH ON A SUBURBAN STREET. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND WAS SEEMINGLY DISCONNECTED FROM ITS LINKAGE. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY TURNING OFF THE IGNITION, THANKFULLY BEFORE ENCOUNTERING ANOTHER VEHICLE, PEDESTRIAN OR OBSTACLE. MY VEHICLE IS A VERY WELL MAINTAINED 2000 FORD RANGER XLT WITH ABOUT 68,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL GARAGE WHO REPAIRED IT PROMPTLY. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO BASICALLY SHRUGGED HIS SHOULDERS, SEEMINGLY UNCARING THAT THERE MAY BE A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. HE GAVE ME A TOLL-FREE PHONE NUMBER TO CALL FORD MOTOR COMPANY, BUT AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO REACH THAT LINE, AND BEING PUT ON HOLD THROUGH AN AUTOMATED SYSTEM FOR UP TO 40 MINUTES AT A TIME, I HAVE BECOME FRUSTRATED ENOUGH TO REPORT THIS TO NHTSA. *JB
EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLES THAT RUN TOGETHER BY THE REAR END, HAVE RUBBED TOGETHER TO THE POINT OF WARRING THROUGH THE SHEATHING. THIS HAS STARTED TO CAUSE THE REAR EMERGENCY BRAKES TO STICK WHEN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS RELEASED AFTER BEING SET. I THINK THIS COULD BE COME A BIG SAFETY CONCERN DOWN THE ROAD, BY EITHER FAILING TO WORK, OR RELEASE. IT'S A POOR DESIGN ON FORDS PART AND COULD BE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. ALSO WHAT'S UP WITH THE ENGINE PAN GASKET FORD USED ON THIS TRUCK MINE IS LEAKING BADLY AND I'VE HEARD MOST OF THEM DO. ARE THERE ANY RECALLS? THANKS AGAIN STEV ANDERSON. *NM
TRANSMISSION ACTED AS IF IN NEUTRAL. HAD TO MANUALLY SHIFT DOWN TO BE ABLE TO MOVE VEHICLE OFF ROAD. THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE PRESENTED A REAL TRAFFIC HAZARD HAD IT OCCURRED WHEN I NEEDED TO PULL OUT QUICKLY, OR IF THERE WERE LOTS OF TRAFFIC. RESEARCHED PROBLEM ON THIS SITE AND FOUND SERVICE BULLETINS WHICH MENTION THE PROBLEM: 10013414, 10014086 AND 10013369. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED SMOKE CAME FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE ATTEMPTING TO USE THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL. ALTHOUGH THE DEALER WAS CONSULTED NO INSPECTIONS WERE MADE. *AK
ON APRIL 8TH 2006 THE FRONT PARKING BRAKE CABLE ON MY 2000 FORD RANGER BROKE DUE TO WEAR FROM A METAL CLIP USED TO HOLD THE CABLE SLEEVE IN PLACE. WHEN I TRIED TO REPLACE THE CABLE I DISCOVERED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE ASSY. WAS MANUFACTURED SO THAT THE PARKING BRAKE/E-BRAKE PEDAL ASSY ALSO HAS TO BE REPLACED, BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY TO REMOVE THE BROKEN CABLE FROM THE PEDAL ASSY. THE COST OF THE PART IS $85.00 FOR THE PEDAL ASSY. AND $35.00 FOR THE CABLE ASSY. PARTS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH THE DEALER ON SPECIAL ORDER ONLY. MY CONCERN IS THAT IF PEOPLE HAVE TO PAY THAT MUCH FOR SOMETHING THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE TO REPLACE, THEN THEY WONT REPLACE THE BROKEN CABLE AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR WORSE, DEATH TO SOMEONE. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL NOTICE NUMBER 07V336000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE NOTICE STATED THAT THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR WOULD BE UNAVAILABLE UNTIL NOVEMBER OF 2007. IN FEBRUARY OF 2007, HE SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. OCCASIONAL LOSS OF ALL BRAKING POWER. 2000 FORD RANGER 4X4 PICK-UP. THIS VEHICLE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS WITHOUT ANY NOTICE HAS HAD COMPLETE OR DRASTIC BRAKING POWER LOSS. THERE ARE NO INDICATOR WARNING LIGHTS OF ANY TYPE TO INDICATE THERE IS A PROBLEM. ON TWO OCCASIONS I ALMOST HIT OTHER VEHICLES IN THE REAR DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE AND MY WIFE FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND WENT OUT INTO THE PATH OF AN ON COMING VEHICLE. (NO ACCIDENT). *NM
IN OUR 2000 FORD RANGER, THE DOME LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY REMAINS ON WHEN THE CAR IS OFF. THE LIGHT AND THE "DOOR AJAR" INDICATOR WILL INTERMITTENTLY REMAIN ON WHILE THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN, CAUSING POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS NIGHT-DRIVING CONDITIONS. THIS HAS DRAINED THE CAR'S BATTERY, STRANDING THE OWNER. THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER 20 TIMES IN THE MONTH OF DECEMBER AND COUNTLESS TIMES SINCE THIS PROBLEM BEGAN IN THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER. THIS FAILURE WAS UNPROVOKED, NO INDICATOR OF ANY OTHER PROBLEM WAS GIVEN AND THE DRIVER IS AT A LOSS AS TO HOW TO CORRECT THE FAILURE WITHOUT TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALER. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE DROVE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT PASS THE STATE INSPECTION. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THE FLEXIBLE FUEL SENSOR DETERIORATED WHICH MAY BE DUE TO THE ROAD SALTS USED IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK. IT WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE FLEXIBLE FUEL SENSOR. THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED BY THE CALIFORNIA EMISSION STANDARDS.*AK UPDATED 01/25/06. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ABS ENGAGED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE STOPPING. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT TIRES HAD ABNORMAL WEAR, AND THE FRONT END WOULD SHAKE WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMPY ROADS. HE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO REPAIR SHOP, AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT UPPER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS REPAIR WAS MADE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD RANGER. WHILE THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER WAS TRYING TO FASTEN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT BELT IT WOULD NOT LATCH. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE LATCH , AND THERE DID NOT APPEAR TO BE ANYTHING LODGED IN THE LATCH TO CAUSE IT NOT TO LOCK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE SEEMED TO BE PLASTIC PART OF THE SEAT BELT THAT BROKE OFF. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALERSHIP YET, BECAUSE WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP THEY STATED THAT IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $100 TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELT. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS A FIVE YEAR, 50,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE SEAT BELTS, AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELT WITHOUT THE CONSUMER COVERING THE COST.*AK UPDATED 11/29/2005- A LOCAL GAS STATION WAS ABLE TO REPAIR THE SEAT BELT FOR UNDER $60. THE CONSUMER STILL HAS THE BROKEN BELT IN HIS POSSESSION. *NM
2000 FORD RANGER HAD SMOKE SEEPING OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN WHENEVER THE CONSUMER WOULD USE HIS TURN SIGNAL.*MR THE CONSUMER SAW NEW COVERAGE ON RECALL OF SOME FORD TRUCK. THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ALTHOUGH HER VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL. THE DEALER REPLACED THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH. *NM
ON OR ABOUT 8/1/05 I PARKED MY 2000 FORD RANGER XLT IN MY DRIVEWAY AND GOT OUT TO OPEN THE GATED PARKING SPACE AT MY RESIDENCE. VEHICLE JUMPED INTO REVERSE AND BACKED INTO THE STREET. MANAGED TO STOP IT BUT INJURED MY KNEE. FOUND PIN FROM SHIFTER MECHANISM ON THE FLOOR UNDER STEERING COLUMN THAT HAD FALLEN OUT OF SHIFTER. SHIFTER WOULD NOT STAY IN "PARK" AFTERWARDS BUT KEPT JUMPING INTO "NEUTRAL" AND "REVERSE". SPRING TENSION OF THE SHIFT INDICATOR WOULD PULL IT OUT OF "PARK" AS SOON AS THE LEVER WAS RELEASED. SHIFTER WOULD GO INTO "NEUTRAL" AND "REVERSE" AT RANDOM. HAD TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART WHEN I LEFT CAR EVEN BRIEFLY - NOT SOMETHING DRIVERS NORMALLY DO. VEHICLE POPPED INTO "NEUTRAL" ABOUT 75 TO 100 TIMES AND INTO "REVERSE" ABOUT 50 TIMES. HAD TO HOLD THE LEVER IN "PARK" TO RESTART. ABOUT A WEEK OR SO AFTER THE INITIAL FAILURE, I HEARD A LOUD "SPROING" AND A "SNAP" SOUND. SHIFT INDICATOR WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT IN "D1" POSITION. IT NEVER WORKED AGAIN. SHIFT LEVER NOW STAYS WEAKLY IN "PARK" BUT POPS INTO GEAR SOMETIMES. FORD DEALER HAD NO INTEREST IN PROBLEM AND MERELY REFERRED ME TO MANUFACTURER. MANUFACTURER REFERRED ME BACK TO THE DEALER. SHIFTER MECHANISM IS DEFECTIVELY DESIGNED AND NOT FIT FOR ITS INTENDED USE. VEHICLE DOES NOT MEET FMVSS BECAUSE CRITICAL SHIFTER MECHANISM IS DEFECTIVE AND WILL FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY. GEAR SHIFT OUGHT TO WORK WITHOUT FAILURE FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. FORD AND ITS DEALERS DO NOT HAVE ANY MEASURES IN PLACE TO ADDRESS THIS FAILURE AND INSTEAD TRY TO PUSH OFF CORRECTIVE ACTION, LEAVING THE VEHICLE OWNER WITH A HAZARDOUS CONDITION. THIS FAILURE HAS PROBABLY HAPPENED TO OTHERS AND IS BEING UNDERREPORTED BECAUSE OF THE ACTIONS OF FORD AND ITS DEALERS. IF THIS DEFECT IS NOT CORRECTED, IT WILL ULTIMATELY KILL SOMEBODY. NHTSA HAS A DUTY TO CALL FORD AND ITS DEALERS INTO ACCOUNT AND REQUIRE A RECALL TO CORRECT THE DEFECT.
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD RANGER. BRAKE SHOES ON THE REAR, HAS A SAFETY DEFECT. THE SPRING ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BRAKE SHOES HAVE A SELF ADJUSTER THE SPRING AT THE BOTTOM RUBBED THE SELF ADJUSTER. IT DID NOT RUB BRAKE SHOES . IT STARTED MAKING A NOISE IN THE WHEEL. THE CONTACT TOOK IT OFF AND FOUND THE BROKEN SPRING . WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY IT MADE A RATTLING NOISE ON JULY, 15 2005. NO CRASH INVOLVED. NO POLICE REPORT TAKEN. NO INJURIES REPORTED. *AK THE BOTTOM BRAKE SHOE RETAINING SPRING WAS INSTALLED ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE SELF ADJUSTER, WHICH EVENTUALLY RUBBED THE SPRING AND BROKE. ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER THE OTHER SIDE STARTED MAKING A NOISE AN IT HAD ALSO BROKE. AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW BRAKE SHOE THE CONSUMER FOUND THAT THE SPRING SHOULD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED BEHIND THE SELF ADJUSTER. THE CONSUMER HAS ONE OF THE SPRINGS IN HIS POSSESSION. *NM
SRS LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON NOW, MAY BE DUE TO USING SWITCH TO TURN OFF PASSENGER AIRBAG A COUPLE OF TIMES OR DRIVING WITH IT OFF. NOW THE ALERT LIGHT FOR THE PASSENGER DOESN'T LIGHT EITHER. OTHER PROBLEM IS ENGINE KNOCKING EVEN THOUGH THIS 2000 RANGER HAS ONLY 36,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN BABIED ON SUPER PREMIUM GAS. I FEEL THAT FORDS TEND TO FAIL JUST OUT OF WARRANTY, THESE PROBLEMS HAPPENED LITERALLY AT THE MARK OF 36,000 MILES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THEM!
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL HAS FAILED TO WORK PROPERLY - WHEN IT FAILS, THE SIGNAL WILL EITHER NOT COME ON AT ALL OR WILL REMAIN LIT CONTINUOUSLY (INSTEAD OF FLASHING), EVEN IF THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IS OFF. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE SIGNAL FAILS, SMOKE COMES OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN NEAR THE HAZARD FLASHER SWITCH AND/OR TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. I HAVE ORDERED A REPLACEMENT TURN SIGNAL SWITCH (AND WILL BE REPLACING IT AS SOON AS THE NEW PART ARRIVES) - I WILL KEEP THE OLD PART.
CONSUMER STATED: THE SERPENTINE BELT WENT OUT TWICE AND THE PULLEY SYSTEM HAD BEEN REPLACED BEFORE THE ALTERNATOR WENT OUT, THE ABS LIGHT WAS ON, THEN A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON THERE WERE NO BRAKES LEFT, HOWEVER, THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. FORD SAID IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE BRAKE TO GO OUT WHEN ALTERNATOR WENT OUT. *JB
DT: CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT CONTINENTAL GENERAL GABBER TIRES, P22570R15. THERE WAS COMPLETE TIRE SEPARATION. A RECALL FOR THE P22560/ R15 TIRES WAS ISSUED, BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN WIDER TO INCLUDE THIS ONE TOO. CONTINENTAL TIRES WANTED CONSUMER TO SEND THEM THE TREAD, AND TO SETTLE FOR $500.00. BUT CONSUMER FELT THEY SHOULD HAVE PAID FOR EVERYTHING. *AK
2000 FORD RANGER CRUISE CONTROL MODULE BROKE OFF THE STEERING WHEEL. *MR THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ATTACHED BY THE WIRES ONLY. THE BREAKAGE OCCURRED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN ON THE CRUISE CONTROL. *SC THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WAS REPLACED. *JB

EARLY MORNING, DRIVING APPROX 40MPH ,OVERDRIVE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND HAD A HARD UPSHIFT. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER AND RAN DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON TRANSMISSION ... FRONT PUMP FAILED AND BURNED CLUTCHES NEED TO OVERHAUL TRANSMISSION. THIS WORK WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BY DEALER. *TR
1. GOT A FLAT TIRE;. WENT TO REMOVE THE SPARE 3. SMALL PIECE REQUIRED TO REMOVE SPARE AND WORK THE JACK GOT STUCK INSIDE THE SPARE TIRE LOWERING MECHANISM. . THERE IS NO WAY TO RETRIEVE THIS SMALL PIECE (IT IS A SMALL HOOK-SHAPED PIECE OF METAL USED TO FIT INTO THE LOWERING MECHANISM AND THE JACK). 5. HAD NO WAY TO USE THE PROVIDED JACK TO LIFT TRUCK. 6. EVEN BETTER - THE SMALL PIECE EVENTUALLY FELL OUT AND IS NOW ROAD DEBRIS SOMEWHERE.*AK
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. THERE WAS MOISTURE BUILDING UP ON THE BRAKES, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MAKE A LOUD" BOOM WHEN TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD. OWNER CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND THE MANUFACTURER WHO IS TELLING THE OWNER THAT THERE WAS NOTHING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT. *AK WHEN THE CONSUMER RELEASED THE PARKING BRAKE AND ENGAGED THE CLUTCH HE HAD TO ACCELERATE AS MUCH AS 3500 RPM'S TO MAKE THE VEHICLE MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARDS. *BF *NM
ON FREQUENT OCCASIONS THE INTERIOR OVERHEAD CABIN LIGHT COMES ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND WILL STAY ON FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME ALONG WITH THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT EVEN THOUGH THE DOORS ARE SECURELY CLOSED. IF LEFT UNATTENDED WITH THE BULBS IN PLACE THIS WILL RUN YOUR BATTERY DOWN AND CAUSE YOUR VEHICLE NOT TO START.*AK

I WAS DRIVING ON A SECONDARY ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 35 - 40 MPH AND AS I CAME TO THE CREST OF A DOWNHILL SECTION, I LIGHTLY TOUCHED THE BRAKES DUE TO SNOW ON THE ROAD. THE TRUCK VEERED VIOLENTLY TO THE LEFT AND WENT INTO A SKID. I CORRECTED AND AGAIN LIGHTLY TOUCHED THE BRAKES AND THE TRUCK AGAIN VEERED VIOLENTLY TO THE LEFT AND I WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT BEFORE THE TRUCK LEFT THE ROADWAY AND STRUCK A LARGE TREE STUMP. THE TRUCK IS AWAITING INSURANCE ADJUSTMENT DECISION ON REPAIR.*AK

XLT 4X4 4.0L WITH ONLY 38,500 SAT FOR 2 DAYS. WHEN HEADING TO WORK (1.7 MILES AWAY) NOTICED NO HEAT OUT OF BLOWER..NOTICED TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEAR TOP. FINSIHED DRIVING TO WORK AND TEMPERATURE HIT MAXIMUM, JUST BEFORE SHUTTING OFF.FOUND STEAM COMING OUT OF OIL FILLER CAP.DIPSTICK WAS FOAMY. AFTER TOW TO DEALERSHIP, FOUND OUT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET HAD BLOWN! THE NEXT DAY, DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I NEED A NEW ENGINE DUE TO COOLANT IN OIL CONTAMINATION. FORD/DEALERSHIP IS PAYING FOR 75% AND I HAVE TO PAY 25% ($1000) OUT OF MY POCKET. THIS IS BECAUSE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (4 YEAR/60,000) RAN OUT IN JULY. ONLY 38,500 ON ODOMETER AND THIS NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED! I CANNOT AFFORD THIS! THE LOAN WAS FOR 5 YEARS ( JULY 2005). *AK
DRIVING ON A SEMI ROUGH ROAD, STOPPED AT A SIGNAL TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, LIGHT TURNED AND I WENT. I PUSHED ON THE GAS IT WOULD NOT GO ABOVE IDLE SPEED. THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF GAS COMING FROM THE TRUCK. I STOPPED AND GOT OUT THERE WAS GAS POURING OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK. I DECIDED TO CHECK THE FUEL FILTER OUT AND THE HOSE ON THE TANK SIDE HAD POPPED OFF. I RECONNECTED IT AND IT BEEN FINE SINCE THEN. NOTHING WAS REPAIRED OR REPLACED. *AK
12/16/02 (36,635 MILES) FIRST NOTIFIED DEALER THAT BRAKES SEEMED TO TAKE FARTHER DISTANCE FOR STOP AND THAT THERE WAS A SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE WHOLE VEHICLE WHEN BRAKING. THEY DETERMINED THE FRONT ROTORS WERE FAULTY AND FIXED THEM. 5/5/03 (40,771 MILES) TRUCK WAS RETURNED TO DEALER FOR THE SAME ISSUE, BOTH FRONT ROTORS, CALIPERS, AND PADS WERE REPLACED. 9/13/04 (55,637 MILES) TRUCK WAS RETURNED AGAIN TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THE ISSUE WAS NOW THE REAR DRUMS BEING OUT OF ROUND AND THAT THEY WOULD FIX FOR 300 DOLLARS. CONSUMER PLANS TO GET A SECOND OPINION.*AK
