RECALL NOTICE NOT RECIEVED FOR SUBFRAME MOUNTS WHICH FAILED CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL AND DAMAGE TO OTHER VEHICLE COMPONENTS.
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED FAILURE OF RECALL (92S61 SUBFRAME MOUNTS), HOWEVER IS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. MJS
DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE TFI IGNITION CABLE WHICH BURNED THE COIL, THE VEHICLE STALLED UNEXPECTEDLY WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH. ALSO, DEALER REPLACED THE R&R DRIVE BELTS/SPEED CONTROLCABLE, AND PERFORMED VEHICLE TUNE UP. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR RECALL 98V323000 WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS CORRODED & NEEDED REPLACING BEFORE RECALL COULD BE DONE. THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE CORROSION OF THE RETAINER PLATES & NUTS. DEALER REFUSING TO DO RECALL. VEHICLE WAS NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT. *AK
DRIVER'S SEAT BELT AND SHOULDER BELT TONGUE ARE COMPLETELY BROKEN, WHICH MAKES SHOULDER BELTS INOPERABLE. MAY NOT PROTECT OCCUPANT IN EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
CONSUMER EXPERIENCED FAILURE OF THE RECALL (98V-323) PRIOR TO NOTICE RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY, OUTER TIE ROD ENDS, LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINTS ON TWO OCCASIONS.
WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED CAN HEAR A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE. VEHICLE IS VIBRATING, AND CONSUMER CAN'T DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. *AK

VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE AND IT MADE NOISES. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM. *AK
THE ENGINE GASKET SEAL CRACKED, CAUSING AN OIL LEAK WHICH MAY CAUSE A FIRE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
TRANMISSION MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO STALL. ALSO, CAN HEAR KNOCKING NOISE COMING THE VEHICLE. *AK
IE98072, THE DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH MELTED WHICH MAY HAVE STARTED A FIRE. DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. COMMON PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
METAL PIECE OF LOCKING SYSTEM CAME OFF WHILE CONSUMER WAS GETTING OUT OF VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED SHOULER BELT TO FALL APART. *AK
THE CONSUMER HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH BODY MOUNTS. WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING HEARD A LOUD "CLUNK" NOISE. FOLLOWING THIS, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, AND THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO MANEUVER THE STEERING WHEEL. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. THE DEFECTS MENTIONED HAVE BEEN DESCRIBED IN RECALL NUMBERS 93V106001, 93V106000, AND 92V065000. *AK
WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED AND MAKING A TURN, THERE IS NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. CONSUMER HAD NO PRIOR WARNING AND THERE WAS A CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE STALLS. THERE IS KNOCKING NOISE AND THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING. WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT THERE IS A LOUD NOISE. *AK
CAR WAS TOWED TO TRANSMISSION BUSINESS, AND THE SERVICE PERSONEL COMMENTED THAT THIS WAS TYPICAL FOR A FORD TAURUS THAT JUST TURNED OVER 100,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE MADE IT TO 115,000. WHEN I ASKED HOW MUCH THIS WOULD COST, THE GAVE ME THE PRICE AND TOLD ME THAT FORD JUST GAVE THEM A BULLETIN WHICH WOULD INSTALL A TRANSMISSION IN A TAURUS AND SABLE (BOTH HAVE THE SAME ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION) THAT WOULD LAST FOR 2 YEARS! THEY COULD ONLY WARRANT THIS TRANSMISSION FOR TWO YEARS! AFTER SEVERAL CALLS TO DIFFERENT TRANSMISSION BUSINESSES, THEY ALL SAID IT WAS TYPICAL FOR A FORD TAURUS, JUST OVER 100,000 MILES TO NEED A TRANSMISSION. WHAT A RIP-OFF.
ENGINE CRADLE SUBFRAME CORRODED AT THE POINTS ATTACHING TO THE MAIN FRAME MAKING STEERING EXTERMELY DIFFICULT. RECALL NUMBER 93V106000.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55MPH THE FRONT WHEELS, ON DRIVER'S/PASSENGER'S SIDES, LOCKED UP. HAD NO WARNING. LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, RESULTING IN A CRASH. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK
DUE TO CORROSION OF THE SUBFRAME MOUNTS AND BUSHINGS, THE FRONT SUBFRAME DROPPED WHILE DRIVING. THE SUBFRAME HOLDS THE TRANSMISSION, AND STEERING RACK AND PINION UNIT. WHEN THE SUBFRAME SUPPORTS FAILED, THE RACK AND PINION/STEERING GEAR TOTALLY DISCONNECTED FROMSTEERING COLUMN, LEAVING DRIVER TOTALLY WITHOUT STEERING CAPABILITY. CONSUMER ALSO STATES THAT VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL #93V106000. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE SUBFRAME SEPARATED FROM THE CHASSIS. DEALER WILL NOT CORRECTED FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALLS # 93V106001 & 93V106000. *AK
IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. OWNER NOTICED THAT TWO LEADS HAD MELTED TOGETHER.
ELECTRICAL FAILURE CAUSED VEHICLE FIRE.
FUEL PUMP FAILED AND WAS REPLACED (NOT SURE IF ORIGINAL PUMP). SECOND FUEL PUMP FAILED TWO MONTHS LATER CAUSING LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AT HIGH SPEED ON INTERSTATE. FOUND THAT OTHER TAURUS OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEMS.
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE HAD UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT BUCKLE DISLODGED WHICH DOES NOT PROTECT THE OCCUPANT IN EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. RECALL FOR THE 1989 TAURUS NOT FOR THE 1988 TAURUS. *AK
DOOR HANDLE FROM THE INSIDE IS BROKEN, PREVENTING OCCUPANTS FROM EXITING THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE DEALER. *AK
MOTOR MOUNTS BROKE THREE OR FOUR TIMES, AND VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN SHOP FOR REPAIRS. WHEN DRIVING AT 30 MPH CONSUMER CAN HEAR KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM VEHICLE. ALSO, WHENEVER GOING INTO ANOTHER GEAR, THERE IS A PROBLEM AND VEHICLE STALLS. CONSUMER JUST GOT A TUNE UP. *AK
CONSUMER WAS TURNING WHEN RPMS WENT HIGH, SUDDENDLY VEHICLE STARTED TO PICK UP SPEED,CONSUMER WENT TO APPLY BRAKES, AND BRAKES WENT TO FLOOR, NO BRAKES, CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO RUN INTO A MOTEL. INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. MECHANIC CLAIMS PROPORTIONAL VALVE GOT STUCK, CAUSING THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *AK
DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELT BUCKLE TOP CAME OFF. CLIP POPPED OUT. LOCKING MECHANISM NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. WILL NOT LOCK. TOOK TO DEALER & WAS INFORMED NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *AK *SLC
WHEN TEMPERATURE GAUGE REACHES THE MIDWAY POINT THE VEHICLE STALLS AND CUTS OFF. OWNER DOES NOT RECEIVE INDICATION THAT THE VEHICLE IS GOING TO CUT OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE CUTS OFF, IT TAKES ABOUT 40 MINUTES TO COME BACK ON. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK THE TOP COAT OF PAINT S COMING OFF THE VEHICLE; THE TOP, FENDER, TRUNK, DOORS AND BACK FENDER. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY VEHICLE STALLS. WHEN THE CAR OVERHEATS, THE WIRING HARNESS SITUATED BY THE AIR CONDITIONING AND RIGHT REAR OF THE ENGINE COMPARMENT THE CONDENSOR, HEATS UP ALSO.THIS HAPPENS DURING HOT WEATHER. *AK
TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SLIPPING SINCE OWNING VEHICLE. ALSO FUEL PUMP FAILED TWICE, AND POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED ONCE. *AKE
TRANSMISSION COOLER LINE BECOMES DISCONNECTED FROM THE RADIATOR/ENGINE STALLS AT REDUCED RPM
WHILE TURNING THE CAR AROUND A CIRCLE THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT AND THEN INOPERITIVE. THE BODY MOUNTS BROKE OFF AND EVERYTHING IT WAS HOLDING UP DROPPED DOWN. *AK
HEAD GASKET FAILURE DESTROYED THE ENGINE. THIS CAUSED VEHICLE TO BREAKDOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, AND HAD TO BE TOWED. CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE 2 WATER PUMPS, RADIATOR, OIL PUMP AND HEAD SEALS IN ADDITION TO ENGINE WORK. *AK *ML
WHEN DRIVING SMOKE WOULD COME OUT THE BACK AND THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT WOULD COME ON. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED ENGINE BEARINGS AND NEW BOLTS FOR THE BEARING MOUNTS. *AK *ML
FRONT POWER SEAT ON DRIVER'S SIDE LEFT BRACKET THAT HOLDS SEAT TO THE FLOOR OF VEHICLE BROKE AT WELD, ALLOWING FRONT OF SEAT TO RISE AND TILT BACKWARDS. *AK
REAR SUBFRAME MOUNTS FAILED.
ELECTRICAL: HAD JUST GOTTEN OUT OF VEHICLE,STARTED TOWARD HOUSE AND VEHICLE BURST INTO FLAMES. CAUSE OF FIRE UNKNOWN, INSURANCE ADJUSTOR COMING OUT TO LOOK AT VEHICLE TODAY. *AK
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55MPH THE ENGINE JUST CUT OFF. GOT VEHICLE OFF HIGHWAY AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. IN LESS THAN 30 SECONDS THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. VEHICLE TOTALED ,FIREMAN SAID THEY THINK IT WAS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. *AK
HAIRLINE CRACK IN WINDSHIELD NEAR HOOD HAS SPREAD UPWARD TO BECOME A 2 FOOT LONG CRACK.
STRUCTURE: LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL,VEHICLE MAKING A NOISE FROM FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE, TOOK IN TO MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE PROBLEM WAS THE SUBFRAME BUSHING. VEHICLE ON RECALL FOR THAT PROBLEM, BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT LISTED FOR RECALL. *AK
HEATER CORE FAILURE RESULTED IN CLOUDS OF SMOKE COMING THROUGH WINDSHIELD/ DEFROST VENTS AND AIR VENTS.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD FAILED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING LOST ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE, PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND THE ENGINE WAS STEAMING.TOOK VEHICLE TO THE MANUFACTURER WHO SAID THAT THE HEAD GASKET BLEW OUT. *AK
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES A SNAP SOUND CAME FROM THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE AND THE PEDAL BECAME SOFT AND THERE WAS LITTLE BRAKING ABILITY BECAUSE WELD THAT HOLDS THE BRAKE ROTOR BROKE, RIGHT ROTORS WERE REPLACED IN FEB AND THE LEFT ROTOR MAY OF 97. *AK *JB
SEAT BELT BUCKLE FAILURE. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE TO CONSUMER'S REQUESTS TO OBTAIN A REPLACEMENT SEAT BELT CLASP FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IN ADDITION, INTERMITTENT STALLING/HESITATION DUE TO ENGINE OVERHEATING WHEN A/C IS RUNNING. *AK
FORD TAURUS - HISTORY OF MULTIPLE FAILURES EVEN ON THIS INDIVIDUAL VEHICLE. AXLE FAILED TWICE, CYLINDER HEAD CRACKED TWICE (DIFFERENT UNITS), FRONT DRIVE AXLE SUFFERED COMPLETE FAILURE, PLASTIC RADIATOR FATIGUED AT MOUNTING POINT AND CRACKED. I WANTED TO ADD THIS INFO FOR YOUR HISTORICAL RECORDS. *AK
