TRANSMISSION TANSAXLE FAILED CAUSING OIL LEAK.
THIS REPAIR ISSUE HAS BEEN COMMONLY KNOWN IN FORD AND ACROSS THE WWW. COVERT FORD TRIED TO BLAME THIS ON POOR MAINTENANCE (I WAS LATE JOINING MY WIFE @ THE ESTIMATE) - WE ARGUED & SHOWED RECEIPTS OTHERWISE. I BELIEVE THE GASKET IS FLAT OUT DEFECTIVE, AND ADMITTED TO IN THE '95 WINDSTAR RECALL, AND FORD SHOULD BE MAKING GOOD. THEY ARE UNRESPONSIVE AND NOT EVEN APOLOGIZING FOR THE DISCRIMINATORY CONDUCT OF THE DEALERSHIP. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
TRANSAXLE AND TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED, TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REBUILT.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT INDICATION. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS OUT OF GEAR.. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
LIQUID FILLED MOTOR MOUNTS BROKE PREMATURELY (42,000). (QCAW)
THE HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING OFF ON THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED AND AT ANYTIME!!!!! THE GO OFF THEN IN A FEW SECONDS COME BACK ON!!!! VERY DANGEROUS
MY WIFE HAD BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE FORD DEALER (STAR FORD) THE PREVIOUS OCTOBER BECAUSE THE CAR HAD STALLED AND DIED IN AN INTERSECTION. NOTHING WAS FOUND TO BE WRONG. SHE HAD IT IN AGAIN FOR STANDARD SERVICING AND COMPLAINED ABOUT IT RUNNING ROUGH BUT NOTHING COULD BE FOUND WRONG. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO OVERHEAT AND RUN ROUGH. SHE MANAGED TO DRIVE IT TO A REPAIR SHOP. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. WE CONTACTED FORD SINCE MY WIFE HAD PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THEM STATING THAT DUE TO REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH HEAD GASKETS THEY WERE EXTENDING THE WARANTY UNTIL THE END OF 1997 OR 60,000 MILES. WE MISSED IT BY A MONTH AND A HALF, OR 5,000 MILES, AND THEY WOULD DO NOTHING TO HELP US OUT. WE HAD THE CAR REPAIRED BUT THIS PAST WEEK, ON OCT. 14 THE NEW HEAD GASKET BLEW. BASED ON THIS EXPERIENCE AND HUNDREDS OF OTHER LETTERS THAT I HAVE READ ON VARIOUS INTERNET WEB SITES, IT SEEMS OBVIOUS THAT SOMETHING IS DEFECTIVE WITH THIS PARTICULAR MOTOR. ALTHOUGH IN MY CASE, WE HAD NO DANGER INVOLVED WITH THE BREAKDOWN, WE WERE LUCKY TO BE DRIVING IN TOWN WITHIN CLOSE PROXIMITY OF HELP. FORD HAS APPARENTLY NOT DONE ANYTHING TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM FOR THE OLDER MODELS LIKE MINE OR EVEN NEWER MODELS. I CALLED THEIR SERVICE TECHNICIAN NUMBER STATING MY CONCERN THAT SHOULD I REPAIR THE CAR AGAIN AT CONSIDERABLE COST, IT WOULD PROBABLY NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I INDICATED THAT MY ONLY RECOURSE WAS TO TRADE THE CAR IN AND LET THE PENDING PROBLEM END UP BEING SOME OTHER UNSUSPECTING PERSONS BURDEN. I AM RELUCTANT TO DO THIS BUT ALL FORD COULD SAY WAS THAT IT WAS UP TO ME, THEY COULDN"T DO ANYTHING.
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE, RIPPING THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED BY A REPAIR SHOP. *AK
PREMATURE WEAR OF ENGINE MOUNTS. ENGINE MOUNTS WERE REPLACED AT 44,000 MILES. DEALER WILL INSPECT AND REPAIR THEM. *AK AT 44747 MILES ON FEB 16 1998, WINDWARD FORD SERVICE WRITER INFORMED THE ORIGINAL OWNER THAT ENGINE MOUNT INSTALLED ON NEW VEHICLE WAS REDESIGNED AT TIME OF ASSEMBLY AT THE FACTORY. *JG
DASH LIGHT SWITCH FAILED.
BLOWN ENGINE HEAD GASKET.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
REAR CUT OFF SWITCH FAILED DUE TO CORROSION FROM WATER LEAKAGE, CAUSING INTERIOR LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON CONTINUOUSLY.
AIR BAG CONTROL MONITOR FAILED.
WHILE COMING TO A STOP THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, RUSULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO COLLIDE INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DEALER WILL BE NOTIFIED ABOUT THE ACCIDENT. *AK
HEAD GASKET FAILED CAUSING OVERHEATING, OVERHEATING CAUSED DAMAGE TO WATER PUMP & RADIATOR. *YC
TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
TRANSMISSION FAILED.
CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION, DIRECT HIT ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WHERE DRIVER'S HUSBAND WAS SITTING. VEHICLE SPUN AROUND AND AIR BAGS DEPLOYED INSTANTLY. DRIVER SUSTAINED A 6" BURN ON LEFT ARM FROM AIR BAGS WHERE THE FLESH WAS TORN OFF. ALSO SUFFERED A SEVERE CONCUSSION FROM FORCE OF AIR BAG HITTING HER HEAD, AND SEVER EBRUISES ON HER RIGHT BREAST. HUSBAND WAS NOT INJURED.
VEHICLE HAS SLOSHING FROM FUEL TANK ACTS LIKE REAR SUSPENSION IS LOOSE.
RECALL 98V009000/98S01; WHILE DRIVING LIGHTS KEPT GOING OFF AND ON. WHEN TAKEN APART THE SWITCH HAD BEEN BURN., DEALER AND MANUFACTURER AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, VEHICLE DOES NOT COMPLY TO THE RECALL, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK TEHE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED. CONSUMER IS TRYING TO GET THE BILLS REINBURSED , SINCE THE PROBLEM BECAME A SAFETY RECALL.
IN 1995, WINDOWS ON FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT DOORS STUCK WHEN ROLLING DOWN. FIXED INCORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME, UNDER WARRANTY, SO FIXED AGAIN, UNDER WARRANTY. NO CHARGE THAT I RECALL BUT CAN VERIFY IF REQUIRED. LAST YEAR, LEFT FRONT WINDOW STUCK AGAIN. STRUGGLE TO ROLL IT DOWN CAUSED SWERVING. ATTENDANT NOTICED IT DURING TEST DRIVE AFTER TUNE-UP BUT MADE NO RECOMMENDATIONS. RIGHT FRONT WINDOW OKAY BUT NOT USED BECAUSE NO PASSENGERS. IN ADDITION, THOUGH CAR SELDOM DRIVEN, WATER PUMP ALREADY REQUIRED REPLACING IN 1998. CHARGED $50 DEDUCTIBLE UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. FRONT WINDOW FIXED THE THIRD TIME NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. CHARGE WAS $365.72 TO REPLACE RUN AND REGULATOR. I ARGUED WITH THE MANAGER BECAUSE ALREADY FIXED TWICE BY THEM BUT NO RECORD OF FIRST 2 FIXES. THESE PROBLEMS ARE DISAPPOINTING BECAUSE I BOUGHT ANOTHER NEW FORD WAGON AFTER DRIVING A COUNTRY SQUIRE FOR 21 YEARS. IT ONLY HAD 80,000 MILES OR SO ON IT WHEN I DONATED IT TO A CHARITY BUT GUESS THEY "JUST DON'T MAKE 'EM LIKE THEY USED TO"! WILL APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE OR ASSISTANCE YOU PROVIDE. HOPE I DIDN'T GET A "LEMON". COULD BE LUCKY THAT I DON'T DRIVE MUCH BECAUSE POSSIBLY MORE PROBLEMS. WE NEED TO TRUST THE SAFETY AND STABILITY OF OUR AUTOMOBILES.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE SPEED. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, HAD TO TURN OFF VEHICLE TO GET BACK TO REGULAR SPEED. THIS COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME, AND HAPPENS WORSE IN SUMMER . CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER COULD NOT FIND WHAT WAS WRONG WITH VEHICLE. *AK
THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES AND THE HEADLIGHTS CONTINUES TO FLASH. FORD CANNOT SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT. WHILE DRIVING, ON A HIGHWAY OR IN TRAFFIC THE HEADLIGHTS FLASH ON AND OFF. SOMETIMES THEY FLASH QUICKLY OTHER TIMES THEY STAY OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS. THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM AND A SAFETY HAZARD THAT WARRANTS YOUR ATTENTION. FORD REFUSES TO PUT MY CAR UNDER THE RECALL THAT EXISTS FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH 1994 TAURUSES BECAUSE OF MY VIN NUMBER? I HAVE HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE AT MY OWN EXPENSE AND STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS GOING ON TWO YEARS. *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PUT INTO DRIVE IT WOULD HESITATE. WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION WENT COMPLETLY. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
DRIVING VEHICLE IN OVERDRIVE AT 30MPH WHEN A PART IN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. IT CAUSED THE LEVER TO SLAM IN ANOTHER GEAR. ALSO WHEN VEHICLE IS STOPPED & BRAKES ARE DEPRESSED, VEHICLE LOSES POWER. A FEW SECONDS LATER, GEAR REENGAGES & LURCHES FORWARD INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE WHEN FOOT IS REMOVED FROM BRAKE PEDAL. *AK
ABS FAILED AND WHEELS LOCKED.
TRANSMISSION FAILED
TRANSMISSION PLANETARY GEAR FAILED. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT PROMPTLY SHIFT TO SECOND GEAR OR BEYOND. THE FIRST FORWARD GEAR WOULD REMAIN LOCKED. THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY FAILED COMPLETELY.
TRANSMISSION/DRIVETRAIN FAILURE.
CRACK IN FORWARD CLUTCH PISTON ALLOWED INTERNAL CLUTCH LEAKAGE RESULTING IN ENGAGEMENT FAILURE; WHEN RE-ENGAGEMENT OCCURRED VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD.
THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION WENT WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING, AND THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 49,000 MILES ON IT. *AK
PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT FRAYED AND FELL OFF.
TRANMISSION IS DOWN SHIFTING ROUGHLY.
SHIFTER CABLE WILL NOT GO INTO LOW WHEN DOWNSHIFTING.
TRANSMISSION FAILURES (2ND NOW) INCLUDE INTERMITTENT NEUTRAL CONDITIONS AT 65 MPH. STEERING PROBLEM IS SOMETHING THAT MY DEALER HAS YET TO ,BUT IS REPRODUCIBLE. *AK
RECALL # 97V019000 FORD/ENGINE COOLING FAN: WHILE DRIVING DRIVER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD.DRIVER PULLED VEHICLE OVER AND DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE COOLING WAS HAD OVERHEATED. DRIVER UNPLUGED THE FAN. OWNER REPLACED THE ENGINE COOLING FAN HIMSELF. WHEN CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER ON OCT 6, 1999, MANUFACTURER STATED THAT VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING HIT SOMETHING IN THE ROAD. IT THEN STARTED TO MAKE A RATTLING NOISE ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE NOISE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM THE AIR BAG UNIT. *AK
PLUG ON BACK OF HEADLIGHT SWITCH OVERHEATED, CAUSING THE SWITCH TO MALFUNCTION,RESULTING IN LOSS OF HEAD LIGHTS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ABOUT 60-65 MPH THE HEADLIGHTS SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED,CAUSING HEADLIGHTS TO GO OFF, LEAVING VEHICLE WITHOUT LIGHT IN THE DARK. BUT THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD ARE ON. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED, THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. MANUFACTURER NOT CONTACTED. *AK
ALUMINUM CLUTCH PISTON CRACKED AND FAILED.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
FRONT AND REAR MOTOR MOUNTS FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THAT THIS WAS JUST ANOTHER PROBLEM IN A LONG LINE OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR. RECENTLY, HOWEVER, I HAVE NOT TALKED TO A SINGLE PERSON WITH A TAURUS/SABLE EQUIPPED WITH A 3.8L ENGINE THAT HAS NOT HAD TO REPLACE THE MOTOR MOUNTS. ALSO, I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT FORD DID HAVE A MOTOR MOUNT RECALL ON EARLIER YEARS THAT WERE EQUIPPED WITH A 3.8L ENGINE. *AK
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL WHEN STOPPED. SOMETIMES IT GOES BACK INTO GEAR WHILE STOPPED OR SOMETIMES REQUIRES THE ACCELERATOR TO BE DEPRESSED BEFORE LURCHING INTO GEAR.
IVE HAD THE IGNITION MODULE CHANGED 4X... THE CAR CONTINUES TO STALL IN THE WORSE CIRCUMSTANCES.....I HAVE ESCAPED REAR END COLLISIONS SO FAR.....THE ENGINE CUTS OUT WITH NO WARNING.....EVEN AT SPEEDS 65 MPH ON A HIGHWAY...IVE HAD 18 WHEELERS COME RIGHT UP ON ME WHEN THE CAR WOULD STALL...THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE....SINCE THE REPORT LAST WEEK I REALIZE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND WHY SO MANY IGNITION MODULES HAVE CHANGED......THE MODULAR IT SELF HAS BEEN PLACED IN THE WRONG PLACE IN THE CAR.........I HOPE THESE CARS WILL BE RECALLED AND FIXED......
WHEN DRIVING AND MAKING ANY TURN THERE IS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE SHAKES AND CUTS OFF. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SIX TIMES FOR REPAIRS.
SINCE IVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE IT HAS STALLED CONSTANTLY,,GREAT SAFETY ISSUE..IGNITION MODULE HAS BEEN REPLACED 5 TIMES....CONTIUES TO STALL AT ANY SPEED....THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN CHECKED BY RELIABLE SERVICE MECHANICS...TO DATE THIS VEHICLE CONTINUES TO STALL....I WANT TO BE INCLIDED WITH THE OTHER 2 MILLION PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS......THIS CAR MUST BE RECALLED......AND CORRECTED..BEFORE ANY LIVES ARE LOST OR MAIMED. *AK
