DESIGN OF THE ENGINE IS POOR. UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE SOMETHING PULLS SAND INTO THE ENGINE, AND CAUSES PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION SHAKES WHEN DRIVING UP TO 75 MPH. THE DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY SURGE, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP OR SLOW DOWN UNLESS GEAR INDICATOR IS IN NEUTRAL. *AK
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MAKE LEFT TURNS THE STEERING WHEEL, POWER WINDOWS AND DOOR LOCKS, BREAKS, IGNITION, AND GEAR LEVER LOCKS UP. AFTER MANIPULATING THE KEY IN IGNITION FOR SEVERAL MINUTES IT WILL RELEASE AND VEHICLE CAN BE SHIFTED TO PARK AND ALL OTHER COMPONENTS UNLOCK. IF COLLISION HAD RESULTED IN A FIRE THE OCCUPANTS WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAPPED INSIDE.
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED AND PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR TO PASS, WHEN THE GAS PEDAL RELEASED VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. *AK
ANTILOCK BRAKES LOCKED UP, CAUSING ACCIDENT.
BLIND SPOT DUE TO DESIGN OF WINDOW AND DOOR FRAME.
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, DEPRESSED BRAKES ABOUT 1/2 BLOCK FROM LIGHT WHEN REALIZED THAT CAR WAS NOT STOPPING. PUSHED THE BRAKES TO THE FLOOR AND THEY LOCKED UP. HIT VEHICLE IN FRONT AND DRIVER'S AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. *AK
FAILURE OF THE SPEEDOMETER, THE SPEEDOMETER IS BROKEN, CAUSING INCORRECT READING.*AK
SPEEDOMETER FAILURE.
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED 3 FAILURES AT 30,000 MILES. EACH TIME THE SPEEDOMETER MISREAD THE VEHICLE'S SPEED. DEALER REPLACED THE SPEEDOMETER SENSORS AND CABLES. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE DETAILS. *AK
VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE ANY TIME WHEN CRUISE CONTROL IS ACTIVATED AT ANY SPEED. THIS STARTED AT 10000 MILES. DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. CONSUMER HAS DISCONNECTED CRUISE CONTROL.*AK
THE ODOMETER DOES NOT READ CORRECT SPEED, FLOPS UP AND DOWN AND IS NOT ACCURATE. ALSO MAKES LOUD NOISE THAT IS DISTRACTING WHILE YOU DRIVE. FEEL THAT THE FORD CO. SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPLACMENT. WHY HAVE THEY NOT RECALLED THIS ITEM. I NOTICED LOTS OF COMPLAINTS AND PROBLEMS WITH THIS SAME THING. FEEL LIKE PAINTING A BIG YELLOW LEMON ON IT.... DEALER HAS BEEN NICE...PLEASE GIVE ME AN ANSWER AS TO WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED...
ON TWO OCCASIONS VEHICLE EXPERIENCED PROBLEM WITH ERRATIC OPRATION OF SPEEDOMETER. DEALER REPLACED THE SPEEDOMETER AFTER FIRST FAILURE. HOWEVER,PROBLEM REOCCURRED, AND DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR REPLACE SPEEDOMETER A SECOND TIME DUE TO EXPIRATION OF WARRANTY. CAN NHTSA HELP IN THIS MATER. *AK
THE ORIGINAL FAILED AT APPROX. 31,000. THE SECOND FAILED AT APPROX. 37,000. THE THIRD AT APPROX. 41,000, AND AM NOW ON THE FOURTH SPEEDOMETER. NEEDLE JUMPS AT SPEEDS ABOVE APPROX. 55MPH WHEN HITTING BUMPS. *AK
1ST FAILURE WAS AROUND 11,300 MILES. DEALER FIXED AND REPLACED. FAILED AGAIN IN 4-20-97 AT 22,100 MILES, DEALER REPLACED AGAIN. CAR NOW HAS 30,PLUS SHOWING ON 3RD ODOMETER AND IS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT THEY WILL NOT FIX. IT WENT OUT AGAIN 8-10 1998. *AK
WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE GOES INTO OPENS THROTTLE POSITION, APPLIED BRAKES REAR HARD TO STOP VEHICLE. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO CONTINUE TO MOVE AFTER BEING PARKED.
THE SPEEDOMETER PERFORMS ERRATICALLY ABOVE 50 MPH AND FALLS OVER 85 MPH. SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES. NLM
ORIGINAL SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER FAILED AT 24840 MILES-REPAIRED BY DEALER. ORIGINAL ODOMETER FAILED AGAIN AT 24840 MILES-SPEEDO ASSEMBLY REPLACED BY DEALER. REPLACEMENT SPEEDOMETER FAILED AGAIN AT 47840 MILES-SPEEDO ASSEMBLY REPLACED BY DEALER. SECOND REPLACEMENT SPEEDOMETER FAILED AGAIN AT 62895 MILES-DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE DUE TO WARRANTEE EXPIRATION. THREE FAILURES OF THE SAME COMPONENT AT APPROX 25000 MILE INTERVALS IS NOT NORMAL, AND PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN COMPLETELY CORRECTED, NOR HAS ROOT CAUSE EVER BEEN IDENTIFIED. FORD HAS SERVICE BULLETINS ON THIS PROBLEM FROM 1991 TO 1995 ON MORE THAN JUST THE TAURUS MODEL. FORD SHOULD DETERMINE THE ROOT CAUSE AND REPAIR MY VEHICLE AT NO CHARGE - REGARDLESS OF ANY WARRANTEE VERBIAGE TO THE CONTRARY. CURRENT FORD DEALERSHIP (JOE MYERS' FORD OF HOUSTON) IS NOT COOPERATIVE IN RESOLVING PROBLEM - REGIONAL REP DENIED WARRANTEE ASSISTANCE BASED SOLELY ON PAPERWORK AND REFUSES TO MEET WITH CUSTOMERS TO RESOLVE UNUSUAL PROBLEMS OR SITUATIONS. *AK

WHILE DRIVING CAR IN HIGH SPEED LANE IN AZ, CAME UPON ANOTHER CAR, LEFT FRONT WHEEL OF OTHER CAR STARTED SWAYING, FORD DRIVER HIT BRAKES (ABS), THEY LOCKED UP, FRONT OF TAURUS HIT REAR OF OTHER CAR AT 65 MPH, DRIVER'S AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON IMPACT. *A
WHEN DRIIVNG AT ANY SPEED AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES ARE GOING HALF WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD. ALSO, MOTOR MOUNTS WENT OUT/ AIR CONDITIONING UNIT FAILED, AND WAS BLOWING HOT AIR, AND TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO VEHICLE STALLING, CUTTING OFF AND SHIFTING HARD. VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO THE SHOP FOR REPAIR SERVICE THREE TIMES AND, THE DEALER CAN'T DETERMINE THE CAUSES OF THE PROBLEM. *AK

VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY WITH IGNITION IN LEFT IDLE POSITION, UNDER THE HOOD FIRE BROKE OUT, ENGULFED ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, EXPERIENCED ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM FAN MOTOR FAILURE, WHEN SUDDENLY A/C SHUT DOWN, FAN MOTOR BECAME EXTREMELY HOT, NOTICED BURNING SMELL AND SMOKE, THEN FOUND FAN MOTOR ON FIRE. CONSUMER STATES CIRCUIT MOTOR DID NOT TRIP. *SLC
