REAR SEATBELT DIFFICULT TO LATCH WTIH CHILD SEAT / BOOSTER SEAT PRESENT. WHEN USING A CHILD SAFETY SEAT WITH BUILD IN STRAPS IN COMBINATION WITH THE CENTER REAR SEAT LAPBELT WITH OPTIONAL STUD MOUNTED ON STRAP FOR SHOULDER BELT ATTACHMENT, THIS FLAW IS NOT THAT EVIDENT. ALTHOUGH, AS THE CHILD PROGRESSES INTO THE BOOSTER SEAT STAGE AND HAS OUTGROWN THE WEIGHT OF THE CHILD SEAT SAFETY STAPS, THE USE OF A BOOSTER SEAT IN THE CENTER REAR WITH COMBINATION LAP BELT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO LATCH. THE ACT OF LATCHING THE SEATBELT CAN RANGE FROM FIRST TRY TO 20 OR 30 ATTEMPTS BEFORE IT LATCHES. MULTIPLE FEMALE SEAT BELT RECEPTICLES WHERE USED, SAME EFFECT ON ALL. IT APPEARS THAT THE DEATCHABLE SHOULD BELT ASSEMBLY HAS A RATHER LARGE METAL BUCKLE THAT HAS SUCH A LARGE AREA THAT IT PREVENTS THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLE FROM ALLOWING ENOUGH OF THE SEAT BELT SLOT TO ENTER THE RECEPTIBLE FOR THE EVIDENT CLICK. IF CAR IS NOT TAKEN, THE CAR SEAT MAY INADVERTANTLY BE LEFT UNBELTED IF THE CLICK IS NOT HEARD. ONCE THE BUCKLE DOES PERFORM THE "CLICK" IT APPEARS TO BE SECURE, BUT AS A DRIVER I CONSTANTLY WORRY ABOUT THE INTEGRITY OF THAT BELT ASSEMBLY. THIS PROBLEM APPEAR TO SHOW MORE OFTEN DURING COLDER WINTER MONTHS. 40F AND BELOW.
PROBLEMS WITH CAR SINCE DAY ONE. BEGAN WITH WIPERS TURNING ON BY THEMSELVES, SPOKE TO MECHANIC, SAID IT WAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. THEN THE CAR KEPT REFUSING TO SWITCH GEARS (SECOND TO THIRD), THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD QUIT AND CAR DIED ON SIDE OF ROAD SEVERAL TIMES. ALONG WITH THIS PROBLEM, THE BRAKES SQUEALED VERY LOUD. CALLED DEALER, WOULD NOT HELP, SENT ME TO FORD DEALER (DAVE GOULDS). REPLACED SPEED SENSOR, SCRAPED "RUST" OFF BRAKES AND SAID THEY MAY CONTINUE TO SQUEAL, THEY DO! THE CAR PICKS UP SPEED FROM NO WHERE, SPECIALLY WHEN COMING FROM A STOP. VERY SCAREY, REFUSE TO LET MY DAUGHTER DRIVE BECAUSE OF IT. NOW THE POWER STEERING IS MAKING A HORRIBLE HUM AND I HAVE LOST POWER STEERING ON SEVERAL OCCAISIONS. ADDED FLUID, THE NEXT DAY IT LOOKED LIKE COCOA BUBBLING OUT. I CONTACTED THE GOULD FORD DEALERSHIP AND I HAVE TO BRING IT IN TOMORROW. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AND HE TELLS ME THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY MOST LIKELY WON'T COVER THE REPAIR (THEY DIDN'T COVER THE SPEED SENSOR EITHER). I BOUGHT THIS CAR AT A LOCAL COMPANY AFTER A SEVERE ACCIDENT, IT WAS TRAUMATIZING TO GET BACK BEHIND THE WHEEL, BUT THIS CAR IS LIKE A ROLLING DEATH TRAP, WHY ISN'T FORD RECALLING THEM? MR
TWO BLOWOUTS HAVE OCCURRED ON THIS VEHICLE IN ABOUT A YEAR. IN BOTH CASES, THE TIRES HAD BEEN INSPECTED AND PROPERLY INFLATED WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF THE INCIDENTS (BY TWO DIFFERENT SHOPS). THE FIRST WAS A FLAT TIRE DISCOVERED IN THE MORNING, REMOVAL OF THE TIRE SHOWED A 2+ INCH GASH ON THE INSIDE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE, THEY HAD BEEN ROTATED TWO DAYS PREVIOUS. THE SECOND OCCURED WHILE DRIVING-- THE TIRE FELL APART WHILE TRAVELLING ON THE NEW JERSEY TPKE, 3 DAYS BEFORE, I REQUESTED THE PRESSURE ON THE TIRES BE CHECKED DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. MR
THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD SQUEALING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD. THE STEERING HAD BECOME HARD TO STEER DUE TO POWER STEERING PUMP AND STEERING GEAR FAILURE. *YH *SCC
I DRIVE A 1999' FORD TAURUS. UPON ENTERING THE FREEWAY I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. CAR DOES NOT HAVE CRUISE CONTROL. I THOUGHT THAT THE ACCELERATOR CABLE WAS STICKING. I HAD THE CAR CHECKED OUT FOR THE STICKY CABLE BUT FOUND OUT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE CABLE. BETWEEN THEN AND NOW I HAVE GOTTEN THE PROBLEM FIXED FROM THE FORD DEALERSHIP TWICE (PAID COUPLE OF HUNDRED DOLLARS EACH TIME) ,AND THE CAR WAS ACTING UP AGAIN(FOR THE THIRD TIME). THEN A FRIEND OF MINE REMINED ME OF THIS SHOW HE HAD SEEN WHERE PEOPLE HAD REPORTED THEIR TAURUS'S ACCELERATING SUDDENL,Y BUT FORD MOTOR CO. PASSED THE BUCK ON THE DRIVERS (THEY ACCIDENTLY MAY HAVE STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL). THIS WAS A REAL PROBLEM WITH THE TAURUS AND I HAVE TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT EACH TIME I GET AN UNSATISFACTORY ANSWER FROM THEM. *AK
THE WINDSHIELD WIPER COMES ON INTERMITTENLEY. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. NLM
WHILE PULLING INTO GARAGE AT IDLE SPEED CONSUMER APPLIED BRAKE. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND VEHICLE HIT THE WALL OF GARAGE. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN EXAMINED BY DEALER. DAMAGE TO VEHICLE AND GARAGE UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME. NO INJURIES. NLM
ALTERNATOR HAS QUIT 5 TIMES NOW. THE LIGHTS DIM THEN THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON THEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT THEN THE SPEEDOMETER DROPS TO ZERO THEN GOES BACK UP TO SPEED LAST SHOWN THEN DROPS TO ZERO. ENGINE POWER QUITS AND THE CAR COASTS TO A STOP. HAVE TO BE TOWED. TS
WHILE REPLACING A FLAT TIRE, THE JACK COLLAPSED. IT WAS CAUSED BY THE FLIMSINESS OF THE JACK. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE JACK HAD NEVER BEEN USED BEFORE, AND COLLAPSED DURING THE TIRE CHANGE. THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THIS COULD BE HARMFUL TO A PERSON WHILE USING. *SCC
WHEN PULLING UP TO A GAS PUMP OR INTO A PARKING SPACE CAR WILL ACCELERATE IN SHORT BURSTS. IT WILL DO THIS OVER AND OVER UNTIL YOU COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND PUT IT IN PARK. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR. FORD COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL A YEAR AFTER THE PURCHASE DATE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ON I-71, LOST POWER STEERING, STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. NO FLUID, ADDED FLUID, BACK PRESSURE THREW FLUID ALL OVER CAR. DROVE TO #1RICART FORD IN COLUMBUS, OHIO. THEY CHECKED AND DETERMINED THE POWER STEERING RACK WAS BAD, ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE, BECAUSE OF SAFETY HAZARD OF LOCKING UP. REPLACED POWER STEERING RACK, GEAR ASY-POWER STNG. THEY DETERMINED AFTER REMOVING DUST BOOT THAT SEALS HAD FAILED LEAKING FLUID INTO BOOT. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE IN. PLEASE ADVISE, IF ANY RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE ON THIS PROBLEM.*AK
DOOR LOCK ON DRIVER SIDE BROKE WHILE CONSUMER WAS TRYING TO UNLOCK VEHICLE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
TRANSMISSION IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. VEHICLE HAS TROUBLE SWITCHING GEARS, ESPECIALLY WHEN SWITCHING INTO FOURTH GEAR. CONTACTED DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR, THE STEERING WAS MAKING A GRINDING SOUND, I TOOK IT BACK TWICE TO THE FORD PLACE TO HAVE IT CHECKED, AND I ASKED THE MAN I BOUGHT IT FROM, WHY IT MADE THAT NOISE, AND THE SALESMAN AND THE REPAIR MAN BOTH TOLD ME ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCAISONS THAT "IT WAS SUPPOSED TO MAKE THAT NOISE!". SO I DEALT WITH IT. BUT MY POWER STEERING HAS BEEN MESSING UP FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS NOW. MY STEERING WHEEL WON'T TURN, IT'S MAKING THIS AWFUL NOISE AND WHEN I STOP THE FLUID JUST BUBBLIES OUT, STEAMING HOT. AND THE RACK AND PINION BUSTED, AND THE FLUID STARTED POURING OUT. WE CALLED THE FORD PLACE, AND HE PLAINLY TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT IT WOULD ONLY COST $2000.00 TO FIX! I THINK THESE PEOPLE NEW THEY WERE SELLING ME A LEMON! THIS NEEDS TO BE REPORTED, BECAUSE I'VE ASKED OTHER PEOPLE THAT DRIVE THE SAME KIND OF CAR, AND THEIR HAVING TROUBLE WITH THEIR POWER STEERING ALSO.SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS!!
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN DUE TO RACK AND PINION FAILURE. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS VERY NOISY AND HARD TO STEER. *YH
CAR SURGED AND SHIFTED FOR NO REASON, ENGINE JUST KEPT REVVING WHEN I ACCELERATED WITH NO FORWARD MOTION. NO ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON.*AK
POWER STEERING FAILED TO WORK WHICH MADE STEERING THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT, ROARING SOUNDS COME FROM THE STEERING COLUMN, THE SPEEDOMETER FLUCTUATES AND CAUSED CAR TO JUMP FORWARD AND SPEED AHEAD. NLM
AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON ALL DAY. COULD CAUSE PREMATURE OR NO DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG. DEALER CONTACTED.*AK THE AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT IS OPERATING NORMALLY. THE DEALER FEELS IT IS A SHORT IN THE SYSTEM. THE DEALER IS UNSURE BUT, SUGGESTS THAT THE MODULE AND SENSOR BE REPLACED. FORD IS NOT ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS BECAUSE IT IS OVER THE WARRANTY. *JG
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. TS
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON A BUSY HIGHWAY (RT. 80) WHEN TH FORD TAURUS THAT I WAS DRIVING BEGAN TO SHUT OFF. I WAS DRIVING 50 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN TO A COMPLETE STOP. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER ON THE BUSY HIGHWAY. IT WAS RUSH HOUR AND THE HIGHWAY WAS EXTREMELY BUSY. WHEN I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP I OPENED THE HOOD ON THE BUSY HIGHWAY. THERE WAS SMOKE COMING UP FROM THE ANTIFREEZE OVERFLOW TANK. I CHECKED THE OIL AND IT WAS OK. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A GARAGE. THE GARAGE INFORMED ME THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE HEAD GASKET OR IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS GARAGE DID NOT WANT TO TOUCH THE CAR BECAUSE THEY SAID OIL WAS MIXING WITH THE ANTIFREEZE. I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALER IN LEHIGHTON,PA THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS INTERNAL DAMAGE TO MY MOTOR AND THE REPAIRS COULD COST UP TO $4000. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 1 YEAR AND I STILL OWE $11,000 ON THE VEHICLE. I WAS NEVER OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRENTY ON THE CAR. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE THIS IS MY FAULT AND I DO NOT FEEL LIKE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY $4000 REPAIR FOR THIS CAR. THANKYOU, LAURA COX. *AK
I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR 2 YEARS AND IN THAT TIME I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED TWICE AND REBUILT ONCE. EVERYTIME I HAVE HAD IT WORKED ON IT WAS BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. CONSUMER PULLED ONTO HIGHWAY AND POWER STEERING FAILED. VEHICLE WAS CHECKED BY DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT RACK AND PINION SYSTEM HAD FAILED, THE ENTIRE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK. CONSUMER STATED 2 DAYS LATER THE ALTERNATOR FAILED, AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON BY THEMSELVES.*JB

WHILE AT A STOP APPLIED BRAKES AND ENGINE STARTED TO RACE. RPMS WENT TO 5000, VEHICLE IS AT DEALERSHIP AT THIS TIME.*AK WHEN THE CONSUMER PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO BACK UP, THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD STRONGLY WHILE HIS FOOT WAS ON BRAKE. *YH

EXCITER RIMS ON ABS SWITCH BROKE, LEAVING VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY BRAKES. CONTACTED DEALER.*AK CONSUMER STATED THAT TIRES WEAR OUT FAST SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD NO CAMBER ADJUSTMENT ON REAR WHEELS DUE TO REAR END BEING OUT OF LINE. *YH

RACK AND PINION HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 43000 MILES BECAUSE OF LEAK.*AK
WHILE BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
DRIVER EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED TWICE WITHIN THE SAME HOUR. DRIVER HAD TO EXIT OFF HIGHWAY DUE TO BRAKES HAVING MINIMUM AFFECT WITH PEDAL DESCENDING TO FLOOR BOARD. AFTER THAT, DRIVER PULLED OVER AND HAD DIFFICULTY MOVING GEAR SHIFT FROM PARK AFTER SITTING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES.*AK AFTER DISENGAGING CRUISE CONTROL, DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CONTROL VEHICLE. CONSUMER HAD SCHEDULING PROBLEMS WITH DEALERSHIP, BUT WAS ADVISED NOT TO USE CRUISE CONTROL UNTIL VEHICLE WAS INSPECTION. *TT

WHEN TURNING WHEEL THERE IS A GRINDING SOUND. DEALER DETERMINED VEHICLE WAS LOSING POWER STEERING FLUID. ALSO, RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK *TT
THE FRONT SHAFT OIL PUMP FAILED WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING. *YH
DEALER STATES WIRE IN WIRING HARNESS UNDER RIGHT FENDER CAUSED TAIL LIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS TO MALFUNCTION. FAILED DUE TO CORROSION FROM WATER SPLASHING UNDER FENDER. DEALER REPAIRED BUT WAS NOT COVERED BY EXTENDED WARRANTY. DEALER SAID THIS MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. TO ME IT LOOKS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE VEHICLE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING POWER STEERING WENT OUT, CAUSING VEHICLE TO BECOME HARDER TO CONTROL. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
MY HUSBAND AND I HAD THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS WHEN IT STARTED MAKING A GRINDING NOISE. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. WE THEN TOOK IT TO 2 MECHANICS. JUST LOW ON FLUID, NO OTHER PROBLEMS. WE CHECKED THE FLUID BEFORE WE DROVE IT AFTER THAT. THE LEVELS WERE NEVER LOW. ONE DAY ON MY HOME, I HAD STOPPED FOR A LIGHT ON A HILL. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED, THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARD. I TOLD MY HUSBAND ABOUT IT WHEN I GOT HOME AND HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. WE CHECKED THE FLUID AGAIN, NO CHANGE. IT WILL GO INTO GEAR IF THE ENGINE IS COLD. BUT ONCE IT WARMS UP, NOTHING. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR 3 YEARS, TAKING UP SPACE AND COLLECTING DUST. THE DEALERSHIP INSISTED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT AND THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE TRANSMISSION. A THIRD INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TOLD US THE TRANSMISSION WAS FRIED. IT WILL COST ROUGHLY $3,000 TO FIX IT. MY HUSBAND PASSED AWAY AND I REFUSE TO PUT ANY MORE MONEY INTO THIS PIECE OF JUNK. I ALSO REFUSE TO MAKE ANY MORE PAYMENTS ON IT. I CAN'T SELL IT BECAUSE IT WON'T MOVE. FORD MOTOR CREDIT WILL NOT RELEASE THE TITLE UNTIL IT'S PAID FOR BUT WON'T COME AND GET IT. I CAN'T TAKE IT TO THEM. I WANT MY MONEY BACK, OR I WANT IT FIXED. THE DEALERSHIP WHO SOLD IT TO MY HUSBAND SOLD OUT TO SOMEONE ELSE AND THERE IS NO RECORD OF US EVER BRINGING IT TO THEM. NOW WHAT?
