BRAKE ROTORS ON 1999 FORD TAURUS ARE BECOMING WARPED AND CAUSING THE BRAKES TO VIBRATE AND THE STEERING TO SHAKE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AT 40 MPH AND OVER. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS ALSO CAUSING AN INCREASE IN THE TIME REQUIRED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MY ROTORS TURNED TWICE, THE FIRST TIME AT 30,016 MILES AND JUST RECENTLY AT 52,400 MILES. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT HE IS SEEING THIS WITH LOTS OF 1999 TAURUS VEHICLES, AND HE BELIEVES THERE IS A DESIGN PROBLEM. *JB
RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING SNAPPED SLICING THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE CAUSING BLOWOUT. LUCKILY WAS BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPOT AT LOW SPEED WHEN OCCURRED. *NLM
WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR EVERYTHING WAS OK. THEN WITHIN A 6 MONTHS THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT... TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC BECAUSE THE CAR WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE. THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS NOT ONLY THE POWER STEERING BUT ALSO THE WHOLE STEERING FRONT END. THEY SAID THE POWER STEERING PUMP GOING OUT WAS THE RESULT OF THE REST OF THE RACK GOING OUT, SINCE IT'S ALL HYDRAULIC. WELL I GOT IT FIXED FOR 600.00 AND LOW AND BEHOLD 6 MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING WENT OUT AGAIN. I WENT THROUGH THIS SITE AND FOUND SEVERAL PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT RELATIVELY THE SAME ISSUE. SINCE MANUFACTURERS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PRODUCT.. .THAT IS UNLESS SOMEONE DIES, THEN I'M ASSUMING NOTHING CAN BE DONE... BUT TO KEEP SHELLING OUT $$$$$. AND THE SADDEST PART IS... I'M STILL PAYING ON THE CAR. *NLM
A;RIL 2002 PURCHASE USED 1999 FORD TARUS (ODOMETER READING 70198. APRIL 2003 TRANSMISSION FAILED (ODOMETER READING 82,719). REPLACED WITH COST PAID BY ME (TOTAL COST $2,085, WARRANTY $1,238, I PAID $847). QUESTIONING SERVICE RECALL FOR POSSIBLE FAILED TRANSMISSIONS AND WHY DEALERSHIPS DID NOT REPAIR WHEN SERVICE RECALL BULLETINS WERE DISTRIBUTED.*AK
THE FRONT STRUT BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. *JB
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A ROUTINE CHECK UP, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT OIL WAS LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, AND THAT THE OIL GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE CONSUMER WROTE THAT HE SHOULD BE REFUNDED MONEY PAID FOR THE WORK THAT HAD TO BE DONE *TC
THE SHIFTER TRANSMISSION CABLE BROKE, WHICH RESULTED IN THE TRANSMISSION BEING STUCK IN GEAR WHILE DRIVING. THE CONSUMER LOSS CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE REPLACEMENT PART HAD BEEN MODIFIED FROM THE ORIGINAL, AND GAVE NO FURTHER DETAILS. *JB SCC
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BECOME INOPERATIVE WHILE IN USE AND OBSTRUCTED THE DRIVERS VIEW. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *NLM
FRONT SPRING BROKE AT SLOW SPEED SHREDDING INSIDE OF TIRE, BROKE STABILIZER BAR AND DAMAGED STRUT - VEHICLES HAS ABOUT 75,000 MILES ON. HAVE OWNED MANY CARS, NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN - NO GOOD REASON A SPRING SHOULD BREAK! *NLM

CAR MADE GRINDING NOISE WHILE TURNING. PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE. HAD CAR CHECKED AND NEEDED POWER STEERING RACK REPLACED. MECHANIC SAID IT WAS FAILING, AT LESS THAN 40,000 MILES. BOUGHT CAR USED AT 35,000 MILES. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THE POWER STEERING UNIT AS IT IS OBVIOUSLY A BAD DESIGN. CALLED FORD AND EXPLAINED SITUATION, BUT TO NO AVAIL...

WHILE DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE FAILED AND THE CAR BEGAN JERKING AND STUTTERING AS IF IT WAS GOING TO STALL. *NLM
THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE WAS HIT WHILE DRIVING AND THE AUTOMOBILE SPUN AROUND THREE TIMES THEN HIT A POLE. BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED BUT THE DRIVERS AIR BAG BURST OPEN AND A WHITE SUBSTANCE CAME OUT OF IT. PLEASE GIVE RESPONSE IN REGARDING AIR BAGS. *CB *JB
HEAD GASKET DEFECTS SEEM PREVALENT WITH FORD ENGINES. MINE JUST WENT ON MY 1999 TAURUS WAGON WITH ONLY 37,000 MILES. *JB
THE CONSUMER FOUND MAJOR CRACKS ON THE FRONT TIRES AND MINOR CRACKS ON THE REAR. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. MR SCC *NLM
HEAT ONLY OPERATED ON MAX. BOUGHT REPAIR MANUAL AND REPAIR PART AND FIXED IT MYSELF. (VEHICLE WAS 1 MONTH OUT OF WARRANTY AND DEALER WOULD NOT HELP). STEERING GEAR FAILED. (VEHICLE WARRANTY WAS UNDER MILEAGE BUT OVER ON TIME. (DEALER WOULD NOT HELP WITH PARTS OR LABOR EVEN THOUGH THEY KNEW THE PART WAS DEFECTIVE).

THE CONSUMER NOTICED CRACKS ON ALL FOUR TIRES. THE FRONT TIRES HAD MAJOR CRACKS ALL OVER THE SURFACE OF THE SIDEWALL, WHILE THE TWO REAR TIRES HAD FINE CRACKS ON THE SURFACE OF THE SIDEWALL. *MR *CB *NLM
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, WITHOUT WARNING.*JB
OUR COUNTY AGENCY PURCHASED TWO FORD TAURUS VEHICLES NEW, IN 1998 AND 1999. AT THE END OF FEBRUARY 2003 WITHIN ONE WEEK OF EACH OTHER THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT COIL SPRINGS FRACTURED AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. IN RESEARCH I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE RECALLS IN 1998 ON THE 1993 FORD TAURUS AND IN 2001 ON THE 1998 FORD CONTOUR AND MERCURY MYSTIQUE, HOWEVER I SEE NO RECALLS CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE 1998 AND 1999 FORD TAURUS. I WOULD APPRECIATE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS CONCERN WITH THE 1998 AND 1999 FORD TAURUS. I BELIEVE THERE IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE COIL SPRINGS ON THESE VEHICLES AS WELL. THANK YOU.*JB
1999 FORD TAURUS LOST POWER STEERING, PUMP AND RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR HAD 36,264 MILES, WARRENTY WAS UP AT 36,000. WE THOUGHT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, CONTACTED FORD AND THEY WERE NOT OVERLY CONCERNED. WE ALSO THOUGHT THEY SHOULD REIMBURSE SOME OF THE $1400 COST TO REPLACE THE PARTS.
VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WHEN VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK, RESULTING IN VEHICLE HITTING A BRICK WALL.*MR WHILE SHIFTING INTO PARK, THE ENGINE ACCELERATED TO OVER 3000 RPM WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO JUMP AN EIGHT INCH CURB AND VIOLENTLY HIT A BRICK WALL.*TS *JB
VEHICLE'S ENGINE ACCELERATED TO 3000 RPM'S RESULTING IN VEHICLE HITTING A BRICK WALL.*MR WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE GEAR IN PARK, THE ENGINE ACCELERATED, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP THE HIGH RPM RATE THE ENGINE HAD ATTAINED. THE VEHICLE JUMPED AN EIGHT INCH CURB CROSSED A SIDEWALK AND A GRASSY AREA OF TWENTY FEET AND VIOLENTLY HIT A BRICK WALL. THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO PLACE THE GEAR INTO PARK, TURN THE ENGINE OFF OR PULL THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. *JB
WHEN STOPPED AND ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT INTO PARK, THE ENGINE ACCELERATED TO OVER 3000 RPM'S, RESULTING IN AN IMPACT TO A BRICK WALL. THERE WERE ATTEMPTS TO PLACE THE SHIFT IN PARK, TURN THE KEY OFF, AND THE ATTEMPTS TO PULL KEY OUT WERE ALL FAILURES. THE ENGINE ACCELERATION CONTINUED. *BF *SC
THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED WHILE DRIVING.*JB. THE BLOWER MOTOR ALSO FAILED. *JB
THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE.*JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE ON GOING PROBLEMS WITH THE ANTI FREEZE IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A SLUDGE PROBLEM IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM AND THE VEHICLE WAS FLUSHED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO CHECKED THE VIN # AND DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THERE WAS A TSB #622646 ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE THAT EXPLAINS BRIEFLY PROBLEMS SIMILIAR TO THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEMS PERSISTED.
AT 66,666 MILES TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING. I WENT TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN AND APPLIED GAS AND IT JUST REVVED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. NOW ANY GEAR YOU PUT IT IN IT JUST REVVS. FORD HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM FOR AWHILE.
TOTAL FAILURE OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT. 1999 TAURUS WITH 58,000 MILES. THE BALL JOINT SEPARATED AND LEFT ME WITHOUT ANY STEERING. I HAD JUST LEFT THE HIGHWAY 5 MINUTES PRIOR. THERE WAS NO VIBRATION OR HANDLING DIFFICULTIES TO WARN OF THE PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 40MPH, THE FRONT LEFT SIDE COIL SPRINGS COLLAPSED. CONSUMER STATES THAT SHE GOT THE PART NUMBER ON THE NHTSA WEB SIDE #XF1Z5310AB. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. PH
I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR FOURTEEN MONTHS. AS I WAS PARKING IN FRONT OM APARTMENT, MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE BUMPED THE CURVE AND TRIGGERED MY AIR BAGS, WHICH IN TURN EXPLODED AND CAUSED $3,000 IN DAMAGE. THE FORD CERTIFIED DEALER IN MY AREA WAS UNABLE TO FIND A REASON FOR THE AIRBAGS TO GO OFF. AND WHEN I CALLED FORD THE LADY ON THE PHONE TOLD ME THAT SHE HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. SHE SAID SHE HAD HEARD OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING THAT THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN THEY FELT IT SHOULD, BUT NOT THE AIRBAG DEPLOYING FROM A <1MPH IMPACT OF A TIRE INTO A CURB. FORD INSISTED THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. THIS HAS REALLY BEEN HARD ON ME CONSIDERING MY INSURANCE COMPANY WAS HESITANT TO COVER THE INCIDENT BECAUSE ACCORDING TO THEM NO COLLISION OCCURED FOR THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. HOWEVER, MY INSURANCE COMPANY FINALLY ACCEPTED CLAIM. ALTHOUGH IN RETURN MY RATES HAVE WENT UP AND I HAD TO TAKE A LOAN OF $500 TO COVER THE DEDUCTIBLE. EVERYONE I HAVE TALKED TO HAS BEEN RESISTANT TO HELP ME. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU OR I CAN DO TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE WITH FORD? THIS INCIDENT I MUST NOTE IS NOT THE ONLY MAJOR ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. IT IS A 1999 FORD TAURUS 92,000 MILES.
DRIVERS SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING BREAKAGE. COILS SPRING BROKE IN HALF NEAR BOTTOM OF SPRING. 1999 TAURUS HAS 75,000 MILES ON. 80% HIGHWAY MILES.

CONSUMER STATES WHILE DRIVING HER AUTO IT BEGUN TO MAKE A LOT OF NOISE. SHE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS HER TRANSMISSION THAT WAS MAKING THE NOISE. CONSUMER STATES SHE ONLY HAS 25000 MILES ON HER AUTO AND THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT BE GONE OUT. PH

HAD FIRST ALIGNMENT DONE AND RACK STARTED LEAKING INTO BOOT DIRECTLY AFTER. DEALER REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. NEW RACK LEAKS, REPLACED OUT OF WARRENTY BY WHEEL WORKS. RPLACEMENT RACK LEAKS, REPLACED UNDER WHEEL WORKS WARRENTY. REPLACEMENT RACK LEAKS, RESIVOUR WENT DRY AFTER JUST 10 MILES. I HOPE THEY REPLACE IT UNDER WARENTY. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO WAKE UP AND ADDRESS THIS ISSUE!.*AK
THE INTERIOR LIGHT CONTINUES TO REMAIN ON AND THE DASH READOUT INDICATES THAT THERE IS A DOOR OPEN WHEN THERE ACTUALLY ISN'T. AS A RESULT, THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WILL NOT LOCK AS LONG AS THE CAR BELIEVES THERE IS AN UNLOCKED DOOR.
POWER STERRING WENT OUT AT 72,000 MILES. HAD TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION. STILL DOESN'T FEEL NATURAL. POWER STERRING FLUID KEFT OVERFLOWING, EVENTUALLY LEAKING INTO THE BOOTS. AT HIGH SPEED 65-70MPH IT FEELS VERY UNSTABLE.
RE: 1999 FORD TAURUS: VIN # [XXX] MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 1999 FORD TAURUS FROM NORTH POINT FORD IN NORTH LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, ON FEB. 16, 2001. SINCE NOVEMBER 2002, WE HAVE HAD THE CAR AT TWO FORD DEALERSHIPS AND THREE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS TRYING TO GET THE HEATER FIXED. SO FAR IT HAS COST US $1,324.21. DURING THE MOST RECENT REPAIR, NORTH POINT FORD TOOK APART THE ENTIRE COOLANT SYSTEM, FLUSHED EACH COMPONENT AND FOUND RUST IN THE ENGINE BLOCK, WHICH THEY SAID WAS THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. AT PRESENT, THE HEATER IS WORKING, BUT WE FEEL WE ARE DUE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY WHEN WE BOUGHT IT WITH 29,891 MILES. (THE CONTRACT STATES 28,890 AS THE DEALER DENIED OUR REQUEST TO LIST THE CORRECT MILEAGE.) WE PURCHASED AN EXTENDED "BUMPER TO BUMPER" WARRANTY AT A COST OF $1,733 AT NORTH POINT FORD. THE BIG SELLING POINT WAS THE WARRANTY WOULD COVER ALL MAJOR REPAIRS SUCH AS THE AIR CONDITIONER/HEATER SYSTEM. THE WARRANTY IS HANDLED THROUGH WARRANTECH AUTOMOTIVE, P.O. BOX 1179, BEDFORD, TX 76095. THE CONTRACT # IS 14747754; THE CONTRACT PLAN CODE IS CV60100UKD; THE SELLING DEALER CODE IS 718688 AND THE LOCAL AGENT CODE IS 183. HOWEVER, THE WARRANTY COMPANY HAS PAID VERY LITTLE TOWARD THE REPAIRS, CLAIMING THEY ARE "MAINTENANCE." I HAVE LOCATED SERVICE BULLETINS ON THE INTERNET. AMONG THEM IS #01-15-6 "HEATER CORE - REPEATED FAILURE" AND #01-11-6 "COOLING SYSTEM - CORROSION/CONTAMINATION/OVERHEATING." WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT ON THE 1999 TAURUSES, FORD SENT THE VEHICLES FROM THE FACTORY WITH A HIGHLY CORROSIVE COOLANT. THIS WOULD EXPLAIN THE SERVICE BULLETINS ON THE HEATER CORE FAILURE AND COOLANT SYSTEM CORROSION. THIS MORNING MY HUSBAND WAS ON THE PHONE W/ONE OF YOUR PEOPLE WHO SAID THERE WAS NO INVESTIGATION INTO THIS PROBLEM AT THE PRESENT TIME. HOWEVER, IT'S INCONCEIVABLE TO ME THAT YOU HAVE AS MANY COMPLAINTS AS YOU DO OF A FAILED RACK AND PINION ON 1999 FORD TAURUS, AND HERE WE ARE GETTING THE BREAKING NEWS TODAY THE GM JUST RECALLED THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES FOR A FAILED LOWER PINION!!!! DON'T YOU LOOK AT TRENDS WITH OTHER DOMESTIC VEHICLES, LIKE YEARS, LIKE DEFECTS???? THIS FAILURE IS OBVIOUSLY A TREND IN THE '99 TAURUS! HOW SAD THAT 15 CRASHES HAD TO OCCUR IN THE GM VEHICLES THAT WERE MOST PROBABLY LINKED TO THEIR FAILURE. HOW FORTUNATE THAT '99 TAURUS OWNERS HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THE SAME, AT LEAST NOT THAT WE YET KNOW OF. WOULDN'T YOU LIKE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SAVING US FROM ACCIDENTS, POSSIBLY INJURIES, AND POSSIBLY DEATHS? PLEASE ISSUE AN INVESTIGATION! ALSO, YOU TECHNICIAN TOLD MY HUSBAND ON THE PHONE THAT IF WE WERE TO HAVE OUR RACK AND PINION REPLACED, AS FOUR SEPARATE FORD MECHANICS HAVE ADVISED. RACK AND PINION SEAL BROKEN, POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING INTO RIGHT BOOT. IN SPEAKING WITH 3 (THREE) SEPARATE AAA APPROVED REPAIR CENTERS, WE WERE TOLD THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 1999 FORD TAURUS. WE CHECKED THE AUTOMOBILE CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WEBSITE AND FOUND SEVERAL HUNDRED COMPLAINTS ON THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. FORD MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS! HOW FORTUNATE MY 2 INFANT CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE CAR WITH ME WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I BARELY MADE IT HOME!!! THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A FAULTY SEAL, AND FORD GOUGING THEIR CUSTOMERS FOR AN ADDITIONAL $800-$1000 REPAIR IS AN ATROCITY!!! DT
