RIGHT SIDE SEAT BELT WILL NOT RELEASE SO THAT PASSENGER CAN PLACE SEAT BELT AROUND HIMSELF OR HERSELF. NO SEAT BELT IN USE WHILE DRIVING. WESTWAY REFUSED TO FIXED IT SAYING THEY WERE TOO BUSY AND FOR ME TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER.*AK

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION WITH A BUS AT 25-30 MPH IMPACT UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, 2 PEOPLE WERE INJURED IN ACCIDENT. *SLC
I HAD BEEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED WHEN THE TIRE BLEW UP. IT BLEW OUT MY QUARTER PANEL 2 INCHES FROM THE FRAME OF MY CAR. HAD I BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY I WOULD NOT BE HEAR RIGHT NOW . MY CAR VEERED OFF THE RAOD ,OVER THECURB AND INTO A PARKING LOT. HAD THERE BEEN A PERSON NEXT TO ME THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. GENERAL TIRE SAYS THERE NOT LIBEL BECAUSE THERE WAS A PLUG IN THE TIRE. THAT PLUG AHD ONLY BEEN IN A SHORT TIME. THE INTEGRITY OF THE TIRE WAS NOT COMPROMISED BECAUSE OF THE PLUG. I HAD AN EXPLOSION, THAT WAS THE PROBLEM.THE TIRE COMPNAY CANNOT TELL ME FOR EVERY TIRE THAT HAD A PLUG IN IT THEY WILL NOR BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IT IF IT EXPLODES. REAR ENGINE GASKET WAS DEFECTIVE, IT BLEW OFF CAUSING OIL TO DRAIN WHICH REQUIRED ENGINE REPLACEMENT, FORD STATED TO CONSUMER THAT THE FIRST AVAILABLE ENGINE WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL MARCH OF 2001, THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH. *SLC
EXCELLENT SVC HISTORY, ENGINE BLEW AFTER WARRANTY, FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND DEALER WOULDN'T COVER AND I DEFENITELY COULD NOT AFFORD A NEW ENGINE/REPLACEMENT , SURRENDERED VEHICLE UNDER BANKRUPTSY, QUITE SURPRISED VEHICLE ENGINE EXPIRED AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING SPORADIC ENGINE SURGE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES ON OUR 1999 FORD TARUS. I HAVE TO APPLY A GREAT DEAL OF PRESSURE TO STOP THE CAR. THIS OCCURS WITH THE ENGINE IS HOT OR COLD, ON HIGHWAY DRIVING AND STREET DRIVING. I REPORTED THIS TO WANTAGH FORD AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. THIS PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO. I CALLED WANTAGH FORD AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM AGAIN AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR IN WHEN IT HAPPENS. UNFORTUNATELY, IT HAPPENS WHEN WANTAGH FORD IS CLOSED OR I AM OUT OF STATE AND TOO FAR AWAY FROM THE DEALER. IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2000 DRIVING AT 20MPH WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COLD. THIS PROBLEM HAS ALSO BEEN REPORTED TO FORD AREA CUSTOMER SERVICE. MY HUSBAND AND I FEEL THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS THE BRAKES WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HOLD THE CAR AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR A DEATH. PLEASE HELP US, AS WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. *AK

FRONT SWAY BAR IS WORN CAUSING CONSUMER TO HEAR A POPPING NOISE IN THE FRONT END ON TURNS INTO DRIVEWAY, ONCE THE SWAY BAR WAS FIXED THE PROBLEM STILL PERSIST, THIS WAS THE SECOND ATTEMPT AT FIXING THE PROBLEM. NLM
WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A LEFT TURN OTHER VEHICLE WAS COMING ON OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND HIT CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ON DRIVER'S SIDE, CAUSING IT TO CRASH INTO A TREE. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK
VEHICLE HAD A TICKING NOISE IN ENGINE SINCE MARCH OF 2000. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55-60 MPH BLACK SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM ALL AREAS OF VEHICLE, AND IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
VEHICLE VIBRATES WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. VEHICLE HAD BRAKES PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
TRANSMISSION SLIPS, CAUSING VEHICLE TO STOP AT INTERSECTION, TOOK TO DEALER ,WHO SAID VEHICLE HAD LIMITED 1 GEAR. *AK
WHILE BREAKING TO MAKE A TURN, THE CAR DID NOT DECELERATE AT A RATE IT NORMALLY WOULD. EVEN AFTER HEAVY PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE, THE CAR DID NOT SEEM TO SLOW APPROPRIATELY. *AK
FRONT BRAKE ROTOR WARP ALOT AT LEASE A SET A YEAR TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ROUGH AT TIMES STEERING IS STIFT PULLS TO THE LEFT HARD SOMETIMES, THINK IT MIGHT BE SOMETHING WITH THE TRANSAXLE?
EVERY TIME CONSUMER ATTEMPTS TO FILL THE VEHICLE WITH GASOLINE THE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF ON THE GAS PUMP WOULD KEEP CLICKING OFF AS IF THE GAS TANK WAS FULL WHEN IN FACT IT WAS NOT, AT TIMES IT MAY TAKE UP TO 10 MINUTES TO FILL THE VEHICLE. NLM *SLC
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCE COLD START, DEALER REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. *SLC
AT NIGHT DASHLIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN ON, COULD NOT SEE WHAT GEAR IT WAS IN. THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL, THEN DASH LIGHTS WENT OUT. *AK
WHEN CONSUMER REMOVES FOOT FROM BRAKE PEDAL VEHICLE WILL INCH FORWARD AND THEN ACCELERATE SUDDENLY. THIS EVENT OCCURS EVERY TIME FOOT IS TAKEN OFF BRAKE PEDAL TO PRESS GAS PEDAL. DEALER HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. ALSO, INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE VEHICLES. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS. *AK
HEADLIGHTS DO NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH LIGHT ON ROAD TO BE ABLE TO SEE ROAD LINES/MARKINGS. DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT HEADLIGHT AIMING MEETS REQUIREMENTS. CONSUMER FEELS THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE THE ROAD. *AK *SLC

AT APPROXIMATELY 47,600 MILES THE BEARING TO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID PUMP FAILED CAUSING THE SHAFT TO GYRATE, DESTROYING THE TORQUE CONVERTER. DISCUSSING THE FAILURE WITH THE MECHANIC THAT REPAIRD THE TRANSMISSION IT WAS THEORIZED THAT THE DESIGN OF LUBRICATION TO THE BEARING WAS FLAWED. EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE CAR FOR 1.5 YEARS AND PUT 47 THOUSAND PLUS MILES ON THE CAR, A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE SUCH AS THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
AT 19000 MILES BOTH FRONT ROTORS WERE OUT OF ROUND, CAUSING VEHICLE TO VIBRATE WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND REPLACD BOTH FRONT ROTORS AND PADS AT 20,000 MILES. *AK *SLC
DUE TO DEFECTIVE POWER STEERING PUMP, WHILE DRIVING STEERING WOULD LOCK UP, AND WOULD HAVE NO STEERING ABILITY AT ALL. TOW TRUCK HAD TO TAKE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD INTO THE TUNNEL. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES. *AK
RPMS WERE GOING UP. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. WHEN STARTING CAR AND DRIVING A COUPLE OF MILES, AND PUTTING CAR IN PARK, CAR WILL START RACING, AND WON'T STOP UNTIL SHUTTING CAR OFF. WHEN STARTING IT AGAIN, IT WILL JUST TAKE OFF. *AK
FRONT PASSENGER RESTRAINT BELT RETRACTOR HAS FAILED TWO TIMES. DEALERSHIP REPAIRED SEAT BELT RETRACTOR AT CONSUMERS EXPENSE IN SEPTEMBER 2000 AND PROBLEM HAS REOCCURRED. *AK *YH
REPLACED THE FIRST ONE, 30,000 MILES LATER IT WENT OUT AGAIN. DT
PURCHASED '99 FORD TAURUS FROM HERTZ DEALERSHIP IN JULY 2000. AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD CONSTANTLY COME ON WHEN IN THE OFF POSITION. SOMETIMES OCCURS RIGHT AFTER SIGNAL HAS BEEN USED BUT NOT ALWAYS. WILL OCCUR AT RANDOM. WHEN TAKEN BACK TO HERTZ DEALERSHIP, MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT IT IS A KNOWN FORD MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND MUST BE FIXED BY THEM. WHEN I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY STATED THEY WOULD ONLY FIX THE DEFECT WITHOUT CHARGE IF THE MILEAGE WAS UNDER 30,000. AT THE TIME, MY MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 29,995. CONSTANT ATTEMPTS TO HAVE PROBLEM RESOLVED BY FORD HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. FORD DEALERSHIP STATED THAT PROBLEM WITH THE WIRING WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ON FORD CARS BUT ONLY ON VANS AND TRUCKS. REQUEST ANY ASSISTANCE IN RESOLVING THIS MATTER SINCE THE DEFECT IS A FORD FACTORY DEFECT THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED TO FORD OWNERS BY FORD WITHOUT PENALTY. SHOULD BE HANDLED WITHOUT COST TO LOYAL FORD OWNERS. *NLM
ONGOING PROBLEM WITH LOWER SERVO UNIT KEEPS FAILING, UNIT HAS BEEN REPLACED ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS IN MANUAL TRANSMISSION. FAILED UNIT CAUSED SEVERE VIBRATION AND SLIPPAGES WHILE DRIVING. DEALER NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS MATTER.*AK
I HAVE HAD MY TAURUS AT THE SHOP NOW 4 TIMES. THERE IS GAS LEAKING OUT OF MY CAR EVERYTIME I FILL UP. I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS "OVER FILLING" THE TANK, BUT THAT'S CRAP. I AM A WORKING MOTHER OF 3 AND I HAVE TO DEPEND ON MY CAR. IT IS A REAL INCONVIENCE THAT I HAVE TO KEEP TAKING THIS CAR BACK AND FORTH TO THE SHOP WHEN IT IS ONLY 9 MONTHS OLD. FORD SHOULD BE WILLING TO REPLACE THIS CAR OUT OF GOOD BUISNESS. I'M SURE THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMPANY WOULD NOT LIKE FOR HIS WIFE TO HAVE TO DRIVE A CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM OR HIS CHILDREN. THIS IS ONLY MY SECOND FORD CAR, AND WITH THIS EXPERIENCE UNDER MY BELT, YOU CAN BEST BELIEVE THAT I WILL "NEVER" PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE. IT IS MY HOPE THAT THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMPANY SEES AND READS THIS COMPLAINT.

WHILE DRIVING WOULD STEP ON BRAKE PEDAL AND STEERING COLUMN WILL START VIBRATING, AND BRAKES WILL TAKE LONG TO STOP. A TECHNICIAN SAID THAT ROTORS HEATED UP, AND HAD BEEN REPLACED. *AK
VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE SHOWED THAT THE VENT TUBE WAS OFF THE VALVE COVER FRONT NIPPLE AT AIR INTAKE TUBE, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO IDLE TOO FAST AND INTERMITTENTLY SURGE. NLM
VEHICLE MIDDLE BUCKLE BROKE APART WHILE USING IT FOR THE FRIST TIME; DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS:
COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. WHEN DRIVING 35 MPH ON DRY PAVEMENT CONSUMER SMELLED FLUID BURNING, DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED IN ORDER TO STOP VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK

BRAKE ROTORS GO OUT OF ROUND EVERY FEW THOUSAND MILES. WHEN APPLYING BRAKES CAR SHAKES AND BRAKING POWER SEEMS TO PULSATE. DANGEROUS.*AK
CONSUMER HAD A FRONT END COLLISON AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER/PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES. *AK AT THE TIME OF FRONT END COLLISION THE HOOD CAME IN THROUGH WINDSHEILD ON RIGHT SIDE. SEAT BELT FAILED IN REAR WHICH IS HOLDING CHILD'S SEAT. BACK REST ON LEFT BACK SEAT CAME LOOSE. *YH
WINDSHIELD WIPERS COME ON FOR INTERMITTENTLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. ESTIMATED COST OF PARTS IS AROUND $150.00. I AM AFRAID THE WHOLE SWITCH SYSTEM WILL GO OUT DUE TO EXCESSIVE USE AND UNNECESSARY USE. THIS COULD BE A POTENTIAL HAZARD IF THEY GO OUT DURING INCLIMATE WEATHER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH CONSUMER BROADSIDED ANOTHER VEHICLE BETWEEN TWO PASSENGER DOORS FRONT AND BACK, AND AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK

AFTER PURCHASING HEARD GRINDING AND SHAKING IN STEERING COLUMN WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. TOOK TO DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED FRONT ROTORS AND PADS IN MAY AND IN SEPTEMBER. CONSUMER HAD SAME PROBLEM, BRAKES WERE FAILING, AND IT WAS HARD TO STOP VEHICLE. IN OCTOBER, BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED AGAIN. ON OCTOBER 3RD BRAKE LIGHT WAS COMING ON SO DEALER REPLACED MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER. *AK
