HIT THE BRAKES HARD WHEN THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON HIS BRAKES ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED SOFTNESS IN THE PEDAL VASTLY DEVELOPING INTO 98 % LOSS OF BRAKING CAPACITY. AFTERWARDS, NOTICED LEAK IN ONE OF BRAKE LINES RUNNING ALONG THE LEFT SIDE UNDERBODY ABOUT MIDWAY. APPROXIMATELY 4-6 MONTHS LATER THE SAME SCENARIO REPEATED ITSELF WITH RESPECT TO THE OTHER BRAKELINE RUNNING ALONG THE LEFT SIDE. TWO WEEKS AGO, THE REAR BRAKELINE CONNECTING THE PROPORTIONING VALVE WITH THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE HOSE SPRUNG A LEAK RESULTING IN LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITIES. ALL OF THESE LINES RUPTURED DUE TO RUST AND OR CORROSION. *TR

MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD, AND I COULD NOT STOP SO I CRASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND IT IN TURN CRASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF IT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER INFORMED HIM THAT THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR WAS FRACTURED AND THE REAR STABILIZER BAR WAS MISSING. THE DEALER ADVISED WHEN DRIVING IN WET OR ICY WEATHER A SAFETY HAZARD COULD EXIST. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 185,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION BUILD-UP THAT HAD TO BE FLUSHED AND DRAINED. THE REPAIR WAS DONE AT THAT TIME. A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE DEFROSTER BECAME DEFECTIVE AND THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT SHE WOULD BE CHARGED FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AS THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 54,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE INVOLUNTARILY DECELERATED TO APPROXIMATE SPEEDS OF 10 MPH WITHOUT WARRANT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A SPEED SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 128,000.
A 51 POINT INSPECTION DONE ON A 1999 FORD TAURUS I PURCHASED THAT HAD THE FOLLOWING SAFETY ISSUES: CRACKED BRAKES, LOOSE PINION ROD, TRANSMISSION, STEERING WHEEL OFF CENTER TO NAME A FEW ITEMS. REQUIRED A FLUSHING, OIL, ETC. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE MOST OF THESE ITEMS REPAIRED OR REPLACED. SOME OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE, BUT I ALSO HAVE DOCUMENTATION TO SUPPORT MY COMPLAINT. I HAVE NOT HAD THE TRANSMISSION FIXED DUE TO FUNDS. THESE ITEMS ARE A SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD HAVE CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE A 1999 FORD TAURUS. THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SEAT BELT HAS RECENTLY LOCKED AND IS UNFUNCTIONAL. I LOOKED UP ON YOUR RECALL LIST TO SEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ID 99V250000. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AT THE NUMBER YOU PROVIDED 1-800-392-3573. I WAS TOLD THAT YOUR SITE GENERALIZES MAKES AND MODELS AND THAT MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THEY OPENED A CASE UNDER #401980970 ; HOWEVER, SAID THEY WOULD NOT FIX MY CAR. *TR

THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I PURCHASED A VEHICLE FROM SOME [XXX] AND I HAVEN'T HAD THE CAR FOR 30 DAYS AND THE VEHICLES IS UNSAFE HAS HAD ME ALMOST IN SOME ACCIDENT DUE TO THE UNSAFE OF THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE PLACE WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY KEEP ON TELLING ME ITS MY FAULT THE CAR IS GIVING ME PROBLEMS. I ASKED THEM IF I CAN JUST GET MY MONEY BACK AND WHEN I ADVISE THEM OF THAT THEY TALK IN THEIR LANGUAGE TO ME WHERE I DON'T UNDERSTAND. I HAVE TWO CHILDREN THAT ARE 10 AND 4 ; THE CAR IS NOT SAFE. THE INCIDENT THAT WENT WRONG WITH THE CAR IS IT OVER HEATED CUT OFF ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE I HAD THE CHILDREN IN THE CAR,ALSO AFTER I TOOK IT BACK TO THEM THEY FIXED IT RAN FINE THEN THE FOLLOWING WEEK AFTER THAT THE BELT THAT I HAD INITIALLY TOLD THEM ABOUT THE FIRST TIME CAME OFFTHE NEXT WEEK WHICH COULD SPARK A FUSE WHILE IM DRIVING AND CATCH ON FIRE SO THEY ADVISE ME TO HAVE IT TOWED WHICH THEY HAD ADVISE ME TO DO AND THEY TOOK ON THAT RESPONSIBILITY BUT THE CAR ENGINE LIGHT IS ON IT HAS BECAME A HARDSHIP WITH ME AND MY FAMILY AND IT NOW SOUNDS LIKE THE BRAKES IS GOING WRONG NOW I JUST WANT MY MONEY BACK SO I CAN PURCHASE ANOTHER RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. *TR
MY 1999 FORD TAURUS HAS POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION ISSUSES. THE CAR MAKES WHINING NOISES WHEN TURNING, THE STEERING GETS TIGHT AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING. THE FLUID OZZES OUT OF PUMP OUT OF CAP.CAN CAUSE A CRASH IT JERKS THE WHEEL A LITTLE BIT ALSO. IVE LOOKED THIS PROBLEM UP ON INTERNET AND THERES ALOT OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR CARS.THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL NOTICE FOR SO MANY OF THE SAME ISSUES
WHILE DRIVING IN A SMALL TOWN I EXPERIENCED A LOSS IN BRAKING. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO GUIDE THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND THEN HAD IT TRANSPORTED TO A GARAGE. THEY FOUND THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD FAILED. AND WAS LEAKING FLUID. THIS CAUSED FAILURE OF THE FRONT BRAKES. ON FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM THEY FOUND THAT THEIR WAS A LEAK IN THE BRAKE LINE LEADING TO THE REAR BRAKES. THIS LEAK WAS CAUSED BY EXTERNAL CORROSION OF THE LINE. I THOUGHT THAT THESE LINES WERE STAINLESS STEEL, AND SHOULD NOT HAVE CORRODED DUE TO SALT ON THE ROADWAY. IF THE LINES ARE NOT MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL, THEY SHOULD BE. THE FAILURE OF THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE LEAK IN THE LINE COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, BUT DID NOT BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED. I LOST THE COMPLETE STOPPING POWER OF THE CAR. *TR
1999 FORD TAURUS REAR STRUT SPRINGS BROKEN. BOTH REAR STRUT SPRINGS HAVE BROKE ON THE CAR. I WAS TOLD THIS CAN CAUSE TIRE FAILURE IF SPRING PUNCTURES TIRE. I DID NOT KNOW OF THE PROBLEM UNTIL HAD THE CAR EVALUATED BY SERVICE STATION. $500 TO FIX IT, HAVEN'T FIX IT YET, AND THEREFORE CAR IS CURRENTLY NOT BEING DRIVEN AS IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. DURING STATE INSPECTION, THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING FRACTURED. HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM RECALL# 04V332000(FRONT COIL SPRINGS). NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 96,719.
I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A CAR DEALER. SINCE I PURCHASE MY BOLTS TO THE BACK BRAKES CAME OUT. FRONT END IS MAKING NOISES ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL. BACK WINDOW IS READY TO BREAK OFF MISSING PASSENGER SIDE HINGE TO HOLD THE WINDOW IN PLACE. BRAKES SQUEAL. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY FOR EXAMPLE THE POWER DOORS DO NOT UNLOCK, THE POWER SEAT DOES NOT ADJUST WHEN YOU PUSH THE BUTTON, THE TRUNK CAN NOT BE OPENED WITH THE KEY, THE DOORS HAVE TO BE UNLOCK MANUALLY. *TR
LOSS OF BRAKING DUE TO REAR BRAKE LINES CORRODING AND RESULTING FLUID LOSS. AN INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD TAURUSES OF THIS ERA. FAILURE OCCURRED NEAR THE REAR OF THE DRIVER'S DOOR. CAR IS AWAITING REPAIR. *TR
AUTOMATIC POWER-TRAIN. SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING ,CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT AND HEATER CORE NEEDS REPLACEMENT . WAS ADVISED BY MECHANIC THAT SHIFT SOLENOID NEEDED REPLACEMENT. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT HER SAFETY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 99V250000, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 59,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE, IT CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE SPREAD QUICKLY THROUGHOUT THE GARAGE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND STATED THAT THE FIRE COULD HAVE ORIGINATED WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE, WHICH IS COMMON IN SOME FORD SUV'S. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 84,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. THE AIR CONDITIONER BLOWER MOTOR HAS A SHORTAGE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR WAS ALWAYS WET DUE TO A LEAK. THE DEALER HAS NOT DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 199,000.

UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRING FRACTURED AND PUNCTURED A HOLE THROUGH THE TIRE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V332000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS); THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY $900 FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 96,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY 1999 FORD TAURUS TO WORK ON APRIL 16TH OF THIS YEAR, I NOTICED WHAT APPEARED TO BE LIGHT COLORED SMOKE COMING OFF MY TAILPIPE AS I SAT AT A STOPLIGHT. AT THE NEXT STOPLIGHT, THE SMOKE WAS MORE INTENSE. AT THE SAME TIME, I NOTICED MY BRAKES SEEMED SPONGY. WHEN I GOT TO WORK, I CHECKED THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR AND DISCOVERED BRAKE FLUID WAS POURING OVER THE EXHAUST PIPE, JUST BEFORE THE MUFFLER AND WAS BURNING OFF. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE AT A LOCAL FORD DEALER, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINES LEADING BACK TO THE DRUMS IN THE REAR WERE SEVERELY CORRODED JUST IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE. ONE LINE HAD BURST OPEN AND THE SECOND HAD A CRACK IN IT. THIS OCCURRED SIMULTANEOUSLY. BOTH SYSTEMS WERE COMPROMISED AT THE SAME TIME. HAD I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT, I WOULD HAVE LOST ALL BRAKE FLUID AND BEEN LEFT WITH NO BRAKING CAPABILITY WHATSOEVER. FURTHER EXAMINATION REVEALED SIMILAR CORROSION JUST BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER NEAR THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL, ALTHOUGH THAT HAD NOT BEEN BREACHED. THE CAR IS ONLY 10 YEARS OLD AND HAD 65,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. IT WAS REGULARLY MAINTAINED EXCLUSIVELY AT THE FORD DEALER (WESTFIELD FORD IN COUNTRYSIDE ILLINOIS). I TRADED THE CAR IN ON A NEW MODEL THAT DAY. AFTER CHECKING THE INTERNET, I BECAME AWARE OF NUMEROUS PEOPLE WITH THE SAME EXACT COMPLAINT. ALTHOUGH I NO LONGER OWN THE CAR, I AM CONCERNED THIS PROBLEM WILL SURFACE WITH THE THOUSANDS OF TAURUS VEHICLE CURRENTLY ON THE ROAD. IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN DRIVING THE CAR WITH OUR TWO CHILDREN IN IT, SHE WOULD HAVE NEVER NOTICED WHAT WAS HAPPENING UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE. THIS IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER CARE ON 4/20/09 AND MET COMPLETE INDIFFERENCE. I WAS TOLD MY COMPLAINT WOULD GO ON FILE AND TO HAVE A NICE DAY. IF THESE BRAKE LINES WERE MADE WITH SOME TYPE OF DEFECTIVE STEEL AND THERE ARE MORE MODELS OUT THERE LIKE MINE, IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THEY START RUPTURING AND CAUSING ACCIDENTS WITH INJURIES OR DEATH OCCURRING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING SPLIT IN HALF AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD INSTALL NEW COIL SHIELDS UNDER THE WARRANTY FOR FREE, BUT WILL NOT REPAIR THE COIL SPRING. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 140,000.
THE REAR SUSPENSION COIL SPRING ON MY 1999 FORD TAURUS SEDAN RUSTED THROUGH AND FAILED. THIS CAUSED A MOMENTARY LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE CAR, BUT DID NOT RESULT IN A CRASH OR ANY DAMAGE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. AT 43,400 MILES, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT AT THE COST OF $1,400. WITHIN A YEAR, IT HAD TO BE REBUILT A SECOND TIME AT NO CHARGE. ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2008, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT FOR THE THIRD TIME AT 53,600 MILES. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION SKIPS SECOND GEAR AND THE VEHICLE JERKS OFTEN. THE CONTACT DOES NOT DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY, ONLY IN TOWN. SHE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE IS AT 5,000 RPM WHEN DRIVING. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR, BUT THE VEHICLE ONLY ACCELERATES BETWEEN 5-10 MPH. THE VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT RETRIEVED HER VEHICLE FROM THE REPAIR SHOP ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2008. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,408.
SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF HEAD DURING ACCELERATION ON HIGHWAY ON RAMP. VAPORS CONTINUED COMING OUT OF SPARK PLUG HOLE WHICH COULD LEAD TO A POSSIBLE ENGINE FIRE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY WAS HINDERED BY DUST FROM THE LARGE STREET SWEEPING VEHICLES. SHE DID NOT SEE THE PRECEDING VEHICLE AND REAR-ENDED THE VEHICLE. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND THE CONTACT WAS NOT GIVEN AN EXPLANATION AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND SUSTAINED NUMEROUS BRUISES AND SWELLING. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT SHE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 140,000.

THE PLASTIC WAS OBSTRUCTING THE CONTACT'S VIEW OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. HAD ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY REPLACED. BATTERY LIGHT IS ON AND LIGHTS DIM CONSIDERABLY WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT RESULTING IN SOMETIMES SHUTTING DOWN COMPLETELY. HAPPENS DAY AND NIGHT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO GARAGE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS DETERMINED TO BE BRAKE LINE CORROSION. THE GARAGE REPAIRED THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE LINES. THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT; HOWEVER, THEY WILL NOT ASSIST WITH THE $285.12 REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,529 AND CURRENT MILEAGE IS 31,869. UPDATED 7/3/08 *CN THE CORROSION WAS CAUSED BY WATER BEING TRAPPED BY A PLASTIC GUIDE THAT HELD THE BRAKE LINES TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. UPDATED

IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A LOT OF SMOKE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THE POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS ANTIFREEZE ENTERING THE MOTOR. THE MECHANIC ALSO SUGGESTED THAT THERE WAS A POTENTIAL ISSUE WITH THE HEAD GASKET, WHICH WOULD COST BETWEEN $1,500-$2,500 TO REPAIR. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DECELERATE IF THE CONTACT REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL; THEREFORE, HE WOULD HAVE TO APPLY THE BRAKES INSTEAD. THE MECHANIC INFORMED HIM THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD COAST DUE TO THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CONTACT ALSO EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM USING MORE GASOLINE THAN HE BELIEVED WAS NECESSARY. FOR ERRANDS AROUND TOWN, THE VEHICLE WOULD USE A HALF OF A TANK. THE HEADLIGHTS HAD A DINGY COLOR ON THE INSIDE. HE ATTEMPTED TO GET ANOTHER LENS CAP FOR IT, BUT COULD NOT CHANGE IT BECAUSE IT WAS PLASTIC. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER HEADLIGHT TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT ASSIST BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS CLOSE TO TEN YEARS OLD. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN AND SLIP INTO ANOTHER GEAR. LASTLY, THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES DIMMING INTERMITTENTLY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,400.

THIS VEHICLES HAS A COOLING SYSTEM PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS KNOWN BY FORD TO HAVE A PROBLEM AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE DEFECT. MY VEHICLE IS A 1999 FORD TAURUS WHICH DEVELOPED HEATING PROBLEMS LAST YEAR. TODAY IT WAS LEARNED THAT THE VEHICLES COOLING SYSTEM IS PLUGGED WITH A RUST TYPE MIXTURE AND IT IS UNABLE TO BE CLEARED WITHOUT REPLACING THE RADIATOR AND TEARING DOWN THE ENGINE TO CLEAN IT OUT. DESIGN DEFECT/SAFETY DEFECT. MY SON JUST RECEIVED HIS DRIVER'S PERMIT AND HAS RECENTLY BEEN DRIVING MY 1999 FORD TAURUS. I PLANNED TO GIVE HIM THIS CAR AND THEN PURCHASE ANOTHER CAR WHEN HE TURNS 16. IN ADJUSTING THE TILT STEERING WHEEL, IT CAUSED THE WIRING MECHANISM THAT CONTROLS THE AIR BAGS TO BREAK. APPARENTLY, WHEN THE WIRE BROKE IT TOUCHED METAL AND SHORTED OUT MY SYSTEM. THUS, I DON'T HAVE THE USE OF MY AIR BAGS AND THEY SAID IT WILL COST $800 TO FIX. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW IF THERE IS A RISK OF A WIRE BREAKING WHEN YOU USE YOUR TILT STEERING WHEEL THAT RENDERS YOU AIR BAGS USELESS AND THEREBY NOT HAVING THE BENEFIT OF AN AIR BAG IN A CRASH. WIPERS COME ON AND SPRAY WIPER FLUID WHILE THE SWITCH IS IN THE OFF POSITION. THIS OCCURS WHILE THE BLINKERS ARE SWITCHED ON. THEY WILL EVENTUALLY TURN OFF BY GIGGLING THE LEVER. NOT ONCE WAS THE WIPER SWITCH EVER FOUND IN THE ON POSITION. THIS HAS BEEN A TROUBLESOME EXPERIENCE FOR YEARS. *TR

HOWEVER THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRE AS A FREE REMEDY THAT WOULD ONLY COVER THE EXPENSE FOR THE PARTS THEY WERE AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. ON FEBRUARY 10TH, 2008, MY FRONT WINDSHIELD SUDDENLY SHATTERED, LEAVING A HOLE IN IT'S CENTER AND "CRACKLING" THE REMAINING PART OF THE WINDOW, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO SEE THROUGH IT. I IMMEDIATELY SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES (THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD AT THE TIME) CAUSING THE CAR TO JERK VIOLENTLY TO THE RIGHT 90 DEGREES AND SLAM HEAD FIRST INTO AN ELECTRICAL UTILITY BOX. THE CAR CONTINUED TO SPIN AROUND WHICH DROVE IT OVER AN ISLAND IN THE CENTER OF THE ROAD AND INTO A ROAD SIGN AND WHILE STILL SPINNING, SMASHED INTO A UTILITY POLE NEXT TO THE UTILITY BOX. DURING THIS ENTIRE INCIDENT, I COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD AND WAS NOT AWARE WHAT THE CAR WAS HITTING OR WHAT DIRECTION IT WAS MOVING. WHEN THE CAR HIT THE UTILITY BOX, I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35MPH. AFTER REBOUNDING FROM THE UTILITY BOX INTO THE CENTER ISLAND AND SPINNING TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE I HIT THE UTILITY POLE, THE VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO REST. DURING THE SPINNING AND HITTING AND BOUNCING (A LIGHT WORD FOR WHAT WAS HAPPENING) THE SHOULDER HARNESS ON MY 1999 FORD TAURUS SE FAILED TO HOLD ME SECURELY AGAINST MY SEAT AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE: HAVING WORKED ON CARS FOR 40+ YEARS AND OWNED MANY VEHICLES OVER THE YEARS, IT WAS A SURPRISE TO SUFFER TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE WITHOUT EVER HAVING THE BRAKE LIGHT INDICATE A FAILURE. FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER, ALL MY VEHICLES HAD A PRIMARY AND SECONDARY BRAKE CIRCUIT WITH A PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL SWITCH THAT WOULD LATCH AND LIGHT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS A PARTIAL BRAKE FAILURE WAS CAUGHT BY THE WARNING LIGHT. MASTER CYLINDER REPLACEMENT WAS PERFORMED QUICKLY AS DRIVING WITH ONE CIRCUIT IS DANGEROUS. THE 1999 FORD TAURUS HAS NO BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL SWITCH, NO KIDDING! IF ONE DOES NOT MAKE PANIC STOPS AS A REGULAR PART OF DRIVING, IT IS EASIER THAN ONE WOULD THINK TO HAVE A PARTIAL FAILURE GO UNDETECTED (DESPITE THAT THERE MUST HAVE BEEN EXTRA PEDAL TRAVEL). WHEN THE SECOND CIRCUIT FAILS THE RESULT IS TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE, THE SAME TYPE OF THINKING AS THE FORD PINTO FUEL TANK. I AM EXPERIENCING A LEAK (TWICE) IN MY 1999 FORD TAURUS LX THAT LEAVES MY PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR SOAKED AND HAS CAUSED ME TO REPLACE MY BLOWER MOTOR/RESISTOR(ONCE THUS FAR). I DO NOT SEE A SPECIFIC RECALL RELATED TO MY MAKE AND MODEL LISTED ON ANY FORD SITE BUT I HAVE BECOME AWARE THAT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON EXPERIENCE FOR TAURUS OWNERS. THIS DEFECT IS BEING PASSED ON TO THE CONSUMER UNFAIRLY, A RECALL SHOULD BE ORDERED.
