VEHICLE "CHOKES" OUT WITHOUT WARNING. HAS OCCURRED WHILE IN REVERSE AS WELL AS DRIVING AT 60 MPH. VEHICLE WILL STALL WITHOUT WARNING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. HAVE HAD TO REPAIR FACILITY WHO CAN FIND NOTHING DIAGNOSTICALLY WRONG. NO READING OFF COMPUTER EQUIPMENT TO SIGNIFY A MALFUNCTION. THIS IS A REPEATED FAILURE BEGINNING IN MARCH 2005. VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 68,000 AT THE TIME OF THE INITIAL FAILURE.
DT: CONSUMER HAS 2000 FORD TAURUS. FUEL PUMP DIED IN MID MARCH. CONSUMER HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH FORD FOR TWO WEEKS. CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALER BEFORE BURNING ETHANOL, AND WAS TOLD THAT AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE WAS MARKED FUEL FLEXIBLE SHE COULD BURN ETHANOL. BURNING ETHANOL WAS THE REASON THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE FUEL PUMP FAILED. THE EMISSION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON AND THEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SURGE AND DIE. THE CONSUMER SAID THIS HAPPENED IN HER DRIVEWAY. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A REAL SAFETY ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR EMISSION LIGHT ON MAY 20TH. *AK THE STICKER ON THE INNER DOOR OF THE GAS TANK READ USE ETHANOL OR UNLEADED FUEL ONLY. THE CONSUMER NEEDED A NEW FUEL PUMP BECAUSE IT WAS NOT HOLDING PRESSURE. *SC THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS NOT A FLEX FUEL VEHICLE AND THAT IT HAD BEEN MIS-LABELED AND THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY TO HAVE UNLEADED FUEL NOT ETHANOL. *JB
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING MY CAR THAT WE PAID FOR IN CASH, GOING ABOUT 30MPH ON A SLIPPERY ROAD AND SPUN OUT AND HIT AN ELECTRIC POLE, DRIVERS SIDE HIT AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. AFTER WE ALREADY GOT RID OF THE CAR, THEN SOMEONE TOLD ME ABOUT CONTACTING FORD. WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY INSURANCE ON IT YET. THE INSURANCE GUY WAS COMING OUT THAT NIGHT. SO THIS WAS A TOTAL LOSS. IT HAPPENED ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND I AM STILL WITHOUT A VEHICLE. SOMEONE TO CONTACT ME WOULD BE NICE ABOUT A POSSIBLE LAWSUIT.
NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 04V332000; FORD ISSUED A FRONT COIL SPRINGS RECALL. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED THE RECALL IN AUG 2004 AND CONTACTED THE DEALER. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE YET BUT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. WHILE MAKING A TURN AT 10 MPH THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE. *AK *NM
THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS OF THE CONSUMER'S 2000 FORD TAURUS FAILED. *NM THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT DID NOT FIX THE COILS SPRING PROBLEM BY ADDING GUARDS. *NM
VEHICLE WAS PULLING OUT OF A TURN WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN DRIVER HEARD A POP. THEN, DRIVER NOTICED THAT IT CAME FROM THE STEERING BECAUSE SHE LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO A BARRIER.*AK
NOTICED REAR OF VEHICLE SITTING QUITE LOW - MADE AN APPT. WITH LOCAL DEALER. TECHNICIAN FOUND A BROKEN REAR COIL SPRING ON A 2000 FORD TAURUS. INSIDE OF THE TIRE WAS CUT BUT NOT PUNCTURED BY PIECE(S) OF BROKEN SPRING. BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS AND DAMAGED TIRE HAD TO BE REPLACED.
DT: THE VEHICLE DID NOT START. WHEN THE KEY WAS PLACED IN THE IGNITION AND TURNED, THERE WAS NO SOUND. IF THE CAR IS DRIVEN FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, IT WILL NOT START BACK UP AFTER BEING SHUT OFF. *JB
FORD RE SAFETY RECALL 04S17 TO INSTALL PROTECTIVE SPRING SHIELDS ON CONSUMER 2000 FORD TAURUS. *BF THE CONSUMER IS WAITING ON PARTS TO BECOME AVAILABLE IN ORDER FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS TO BE PERFORMED. *SC *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN COMING TO AN ABRUPT STOP THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE AND LURCHED FORWARD. THIS OCCURRED FOR ONLY A SHORT TIME. THE CONSUMER THEN HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKE AND PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL TO GET IT TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY THE SERVICE DEALER WHO ATTACHED A BLACK BOX. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED ONLY ONCE DURING THE TESTING PERIOD. BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO OBTAIN ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT HITTING SOMEONE WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED ON ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE WHICH WAS PREVIOUSLY OWNED BY THE CONTACT WHICH WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. *AK UPDATED 11/29/2005 - *NM
THE DRIVER NOTICED THAT THE FRONT SIDE TIRE HAD A SLOW LEAK. DRIVER STOPPED AT A GAS STATION TO FILL THE TIRE UP WITH AIR, ANDS NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRING EXPLODED. DRIVER WA ABLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE. THEN, HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE COIL SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
COIL SPRINGS FOR THIS YEAR ARE DEFECTIVE! MY DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING EXPLODED AND SHOT THROUGH THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE WHILE THE CAR WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY! I HAVE PICTURES IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM. I HAD BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE THE DAY BEFORE; THANK GOD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN THEN! FORD TOWED THE CAR IN AND REPLACED THE TIRE AND THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS UNDER THEIR RECALL NOTICE WHICH HAD JUST COME OUT. RECALL CAMPAIGN 04V332000 CONCERNING FRONT COIL SPRING SHIELD. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO GET THE SHIELD PLACED IN HIS VEHICLE SINCE THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT DELIVERED THE PART TO THE DEALER. *AK
VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON THE ROAD WHILE ALL OF SUDDEN THE PASSENGER CURTAIN AIR BAG DEPLOYED ON ITS OWN. DEALER WAS CONTACTED BY OWNER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT AIR BAG WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.*AK WHILE TRAVELING 25MPH CONSUMER HEARD A POP SOUND FOLLOWED BY SMOKE AND A FOUL ODOR. CONSUMER FOUND THE SEAMS HAD POPPED OPENED FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AND THE AIR BAG WAS EXPOSED. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TT
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH THE LEFT FRONT DRIVER COIL SPRING BROKE. AFTER THE COIL SPRING BROKE IT TORE THE FRONT TIRE INTO SHREDS. THE VEHICLE MADE IT BACK HOME, AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY REPLACED BOTH COIL SPRINGS ON THE FRONT. THIS WAS COVERED UNDER A PREVIOUS RECALL. NOW, THE CONTACT WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE BACK COIL SPRINGS BEING AFFECTED, AND THAT THEY MAY FAIL ALSO. THE CONTACT WAS IN CONTACT WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY. THEY SAID THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS WERE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL ,AND THEY GAVE THE CONTACT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE COIL SPRINGS. ALSO, THE CONSUMER HEARD SOMETHING ON THE NEWS ABOUT SOMEONE WANTING TO OPEN A CONGRESSIONAL HEARING ON THE BACK COIL SPRINGS, AND THAT WAS WHERE THE CONCERN WAS COMING FROM. 04V332000/FRONT COIL SPRINGS. OWNER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER IN AUGUST, 2004 IN REGARDS TO THIS RECALL. OWNER WAS INFORMED, AT THAT TIME, THAT PARTS WOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE IN DECEMBER, 2004. IT IS JANUARY 2005 AND THERE HAS BEEN NO NOTIFICATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER OR THE DEALER INFORMING THE OWNER WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
I SHOULD HAVE FILED THIS EARLIER THIS YEAR. MY 2000 FORD TAURUS HAD A RECALL IN 8-2004 (BUT THE SHIELD TO COVER THE COIL SPRINGS WAS NOT MADE AVAILABLE FOR ALMOST 6 MONTHS - WHICH COULD HAVE PREVENTED THE ULTIMATE PROBLEM). THE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE WHILE I WAS BACKING UP. LUCKILY I WAS NOT GOING FAST AS IT WAS VERY APPARENT I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS CRASH OTHERWISE. THIS WAS TOWED TO TIRE SHOP FIRST, THEN TO DEALER AND COIL SPRINGS IN FRONT OF CAR WERE REPLACED AS WAS AFFECTED TIRE AT NO COST. HOWEVER, NOW I SEE THAT THE REAR COIL SPRINGS HAVE MALFUNCTIONED IN THE SAME WAY ON THE SAME YEAR/MODEL CAR. I AM NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO A WAIT, OR GUESSING GAME TO SEE IF MY CAR WILL BE ONE OF THE AFFECTED ONES. I HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS AND WOULD LIKE SOME ASSURANCE THAT I OR MY FAMILY WILL NOT SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE FAILURE OF YET ANOTHER COIL SPRING ON MY CAR. INCIDENT DATE IS APPROXIMATE, AS I WILL HAVE TO PULL OUT RECORDS. *NM
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE CAUSE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED AT THIS TIME. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.
THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRING SHIELD. NO CONTACT FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. NHTSA COIL SPRING SHIELD RECALL 04V332000. *JB
RIGHT REAR COIL SPRING SNAPPED AND GOUGED THE TIRE. BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS AND THE REAR TIRE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE NATURE AND RISKS OF THIS FAILURE SEEM IDENTICAL TO THAT OF THE FRONT COIL SPRING RECALL THAT IS CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS FOR FORD TAURUS. *JB
UPON ENTERING THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER HEARD A CRACKING SOUND. THE NOISE GOT WORSE UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND AFTER DRIVING A FEW FEET. THE CONSUMER IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE VEHICLE, AND ARRANGED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO INDICATED THAT THE REAR COIL SPRING CRACKED AND CUT INTO THE RUBBER OF THE TIRE. THE TIRE AND COIL HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP. THIS FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO THE DEFECT DESCRIBED IN RECALL 04V332000 FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRING. *AK THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH LEFT REAR TIRE BLEWOUT. DRIVER MAINTAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. SUSPICION OF REAR COIL SPRING FAILURE. ONCE REACHING BACK HOME CONSUMER HEARD A RUMBLING SOUND. UPON INSPECTION, BOTH REAR SPRINGS WERE RUBBING THE TIRES. *AK THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS FAILED IN DECEMBER 2004. *SB *NM

AFTER TRYING MAKING CONTACT WITH THE DEALER CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE SERVICED SINCE NORTH CAROLINA WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. 2000 FORD TAURUS SEL 24V V-6 CONTINUALLY DIES WHILE IN HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED PER FORD RECOMMENDATIONS. FORD DEALERSHIP HAS SERVICED THE CAR TWICE PRIOR TO CURRENT FAILURE FOR SAME CONDITIONS. RECENT RECOMMENDATION FROM FORD SERVICE PERSONNEL WAS TO 'USE A DIFFERENT IGNITION KEY.' PER RECOMMENDATIONS AND USING A DIFFERENT KEY, CAR CONTINUES TO STALL/DIE WHILE IN TRAFFIC, RENDERING POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, AND DIRECTIONAL SIGNALS INOPERATIVE. IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION, I DO NOT FEEL THAT THIS CAR IS SAFE (BY DESIGN OR MANUFACTURER'S INABILITY TO REPAIR) TO OPERATE ON PUBLIC MOTORWAYS. RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR THE COIL SPRING WAS ISSUED. CONSUMER WANTS TO KNOW CAN NHTSA DO SOMETHING TO MOVE THINGS ALONG TO GET REPAIRS DONE. *BF *JB
INTAKE MANIFOLD IN MY FORD TAURUS 2000 SEL EXPLODED.VEHICLE: FAFP56S2YG125733. I HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME YESTERDAY WITH MY 2000 FORD TAURUS SE. IT HAS 25,000 MILES ON IT. I HAD TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SOME SERVICE LAST WEEK (30TH DEC) AND THEN HAD THIS HAPPEN YESTERDAY WHEN I STARTED THE CAR IN MY GARAGE. WE HAD BEEN DRIVING THE CAR IN THE MEANWHILE. I DON?T THINK IT IS RELATED TO THE SERVICE (THEY DID AN OIL CHANGE AND REPLACED THE AIR FILTER IN ADDITION TO OTHER THINGS UNRELATED TO THE ENGINE). THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE IMMEDIATELY AFTER I STARTED THE CAR. IT WAS SCARY ENOUGH THAT I WAS DUCKING BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MY HANDS COVERING MY HEAD. I THOUGHT SOMETHING HAD FALLEN ON THE CAR FROM THE GARAGE SHELVES. THEN I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I POPPED UP THE HOOD AND FOUND THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD HAD BLOWN OPEN COMPLETELY. I CALLED UP FORD TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY REPORTED CASES OF THIS AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NONE. I GOT THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT AS I WRITE THIS. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE MANIFOLD AND I HAVE ASKED THE DEALERSHIP NOT TO START ANY WORK BEFORE THEY INFORM ME IN A WRITTEN REPORT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I HAVE ALREADY FOUND 3 OTHER CASES OF THIS ON THE INTERNET, 2 OF WHICH ARE 2000 TAURUS AND SABLE AND OTHER ONE A MAZDA WITH THE SAME ENGINE AS MINE. I THINK TWO OF THEM HAVE ALREADY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH YOUR OFFICE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW THIS PROBLEM WILL BE ADDRESSED. *AK

SINCE THERE IS A RECALL ON THE FRONT SPRING ON THESE TOWED TO DEALER WHO SAID RECALLED PART COVERED BUT SUBSIDAIRY DAMAGE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 50. VEHCILE REPAIRED. *AK

I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY RACK AND PINION TWICE (IN 2003 AND 2004). I PURCHASED MY 2000 FORD TAURUS NEW AND HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENT. I AM CURIOUS IF THERE HAS BEEN ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OR RECALLS ON THE RACK AND PINION FOR THIS VEHICLE. *AK
HEADLIGHTS JUST SHUT OFF WHEN ON AUTOMATIC. SOMETIMES THEY COME RIGHT BACK ON AND OTHER TIMES THEY STAY OFF. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN ON DARK HIGHWAY. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 35-40 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. NO INJURIES TO REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT ALL THE LUG NUTS HAD SHEAR OFF. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. *JB
THE CRANK CASE HOSE COLLAPSED, AFFECTING THE EMISSION SYSTEM. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. *AK
PASSENGER'S RIGHT SIDE TIRE SHEARED OFF WHILE TRAVELING 55 MPH. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE, AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT BOTH FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE LOWER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ANY SPEED, THE COOLING FAN FAILS TO WORK. THE CONSUMER WOULD SMELL STRONG FUMES INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *NM

ENGINE FAILURE CAUSED BY NO COMPRESSION IN 2 CYLINDERS. VEHICLE IS A 2000 TARAUS WITH 71,000 MILE 3.0 LITER ENGINE. DEALER SAYS I NEED A NEW ENGINE. FORD DISTRICT SERVICE MANAGER UNWILLING TO OFFER ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TOWARDS THE REPAIR. A CAR SHOULD NOT NEED A NEW ENGINE AT 71,000 MILES. I HAVE PROPERLY MAINTAINED THIS CAR. *AK

2000 FORD TAURUS WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE CONSUMER WAS TRYING TO PARK THE VEHICLE. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK AND THE BRAKE EQUIPMENT WAS NOT RESPONDING.*MR PULLS TO LEFT. TIRES WERE ROTATED AND FRONT END ALIGNMENT PERFORMED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE DPFE SENSOR WAS REPLACED.
WHILE DRIVING, SRS AIR LIGHT FLASHED ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. CONSUMER APPLIED THE HORN AND IT FAILED TO WORK. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
