LETTER FROM A COMPANY WANTING TO EXTEND AUTO WARRANTY WHICH MY DEALER FORD SAYS IS A SCAM SINCE THEY DO NOT HONOR THEM NOR FORD.COMPANY CALLED NATIONAL PROGRAMS HEADQUARTERS AT 11039 MANCHESTER RD ST.LOUIS,MO. 314-965-9008. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. AFTER PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AT 10 MPH AND PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE TRUNK. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE TIRE HAD FLATTENED. AAA PLACED A SPARE TIRE ON THE VEHICLE AND A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE REAR COIL SPRING FAILED. SHE BELIEVES THE FAILURE IS RELATED TO NHTSA RECALL # 04V332000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS). THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 99,310 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
CONSUMER'S STATED THAT REAR COIL SPRING BROKE AND RUPTURED REAR PASSENGER TIRE. CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRING TODAY.*AK
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN SUDDENLY THERE WAS A NOISE AND THE SOUND OF GRINDING METAL AND MY CAR WAS A BIT DIFFICULT TO STEER. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED MY HUSBAND AND AAA. WITHIN 45 MINUTES WE HAD HEARD FROM THREE DIFFERENT PEOPLE THAT THIS PROBLEM (FRONT COIL SPRING BREAKAGE) IS NOTORIUS WITH FORD TAURUS'. THEN WHEN I WENT BACK TO WORK AND WAS DISCUSSING THIS, A FELLOW CO WORKER SAID THAT THIS HAPPENED TO HIS 1993 FORD TAURUS AND HE HAD IT REPAIRED BY COLE MUFFLER AND FORD PAID FOR IT UNDER A "SILENT RECALL". THEY HAVE NO ANSWERS FOR ME, JUST IF WE WOULD HAVE BROUGHT IT IN THEY WOULD HAVE GIVEN A DISCOUNT.*AK
DT: LAST WEEK THE CAR WAS SERVICED, THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND A ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED. MAY 9 2005, THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE IN THE REAR END AND HE DISCOVERED THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. WHEN THE CONSUMER WAS ON HIS WAY TO THE DEALER, THE REAR BRAKES FROZE UP. THE CAR COULD NOT BE DRIVEN TO DEALER, THE CONSUMER HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. THE MECHANIC TOOK THE REAR TIRES OFF AND THE BRAKE DRUMS JUST FELL APART. *JB
COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL. 2000 ,FORD, TAURUS SEL SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING IN HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. IT HAS BEEN TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TWICE REGARDING THE ISSUE. TODAY AFTER THE THIRD OCCURRENCE THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED THAT I USE A DIFFERENT IGNITION KEY WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE - I DO NOT ACCEPT THIS AS A VIABLE SOLUTION TO THE TROUBLE. WHEN THE ENGINE DIES WHILE IN TRAFFIC POWER STEERING/POWER BRAKES, AND DIRECTIONAL SIGNALS ARE LOST. THE CAR IS A MENACE TO THE DRIVING PUBLIC. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE ITS BEHAVIOR CAUSES AN ACCIDENT. MY CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD, AND HAS ONLY 33000 MILES. ALL I WISH IS FOR FORD TO FIX THE CAR, SO THAT IT IS RELIABLE AND NO LONGER A DANGER TO MYSELF AND THE MOTORING PUBLIC.*AK
WHILE BRAKING, THE REAR BRAKE TAIL LIGHTS FAIL TO WORK. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE CAUSE WAS NOT DETERMINED. *NM
CONCERN REGARDING FAILURE OF THE COIL SPRING OF FORD TAURUS. *BF CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 04V332000. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE TIRE BLEW OUT AS A RESULT OF COIL SPRING FAILURE. *TC THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THEY WOULD REIMBURSE HIM FOR THE REPAIR AND THE COST OF THE TIRE, BUT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE OTHER COIL SPRING AND THE SHIELD WOULD NOT BE INSTALLED UNTIL MID DECEMBER. *JB
WHEN BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE. AS A RESULT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS PUNCTURED AND THE SHOCK ABSORBER STRUT WAS DAMAGED. *AK
STRONG VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END. REPLACED FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL HUB/ ASSEMBLY @ 42,XXX MILES BY FORD DEALER (SEPT. 2003) AND DEALER HEARD LIGHT NOISE FROM THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AT THE TIME. NOISE AND VIBRATION RETURNS AND DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL HUB/ ASSEMBLY AND HALF SHAFT REPLACED BY FORD DEALER @ 50,XXX MILES. PASSENGER'S SIDE WHEEL HUB/ ASSEMBLY REPLACED BY OWNER @ 50,XXX MILES WITH SOME POPPING NOISE STILL POSSIBLY COMING FROM CV JOINT IN PASSENGERS SIDE WHEN CHANGING DIRECTIONS WITH THE WHEELS TURNED.
TWO FRONT COIL SPRING BREAK, REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF TIRES THAT WERE PUNCTURED *BF BOTH OF THE VEHICLE'S FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $571.71 BUT ONLY REIMBURSED $474.83. *NM
WHILE IN THE DRIVEWAY VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE, CUTTING THE TIRE IN HALF. IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND COIL SPRING BROKE, CUTTING TIRE IN HALF. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH SPARK PLUG SNAPPED OFF FROM THE ENGINE. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
REVERSING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, BIG THUNK, FRONT LEFT CAR FELL DOWN. FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING HAD SNAPPED, A BIT FELL OFF OTHER PART OF COIL SPRING PUNCTURED LEFT FRONT TIRE.*AK
WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE. AS A RESULT, WHILE DRIVING THE SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER WAS PRODUCED. *AK
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WERE TOO DIM, MAKING IT HARD FOR THE CONSUMER TO SEE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IONS. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I WAS DRIVING MY 2000 FORD TAURUS SE HOME. AT THE INTERSECTION OF COLUMBIA AND MERIDIAN ROADS SOUTH OF MERIDIAN, IDAHO I PULLED OUT FROM COLUMBIA AND TURNED NORTH ONTO A BUSY MERIDIAN ROAD. I HEARD A CLUNK AND I THOUGHT THE CAR HAD POPPED OUT OF GEAR. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND FOUND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO IN ANY GEAR EXCEPT REVERSE. I FELT FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT REAR ENDED BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC THAT DAY. I HAD THE TAURUS TOWED TO AAMCO TRANSMISSION. THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND I HAD THEM REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION WHICH INCLUDED A REBUILT TORQUE CONVERTER, NEW BANDS, SPRAG CLUTCH/LOW CLUTCH, REAR SUN GEAR & DRUM, BOOST VALVE, PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID, ASSEMBLY SET, FILTER AND FLUIDS. THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE WAS 61,841 AND THE BILL CAME TO $2,162.90 LESS $100 BECAUSE I HAD A COUPON. MY CAR HAS THE AXOD TYPE TRANSMISSION. FORD HAS A 36,000 MILE WARRANTY SO THIS WAS NOT COVERED HOWEVER I THINK THIS WAS MUCH TO SOON FOR A TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED BEFORE THE RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATIONS. DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE, DAMAGING THE SHOCKS AND TEARING INTO THE TIRE. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. CONSUMER'S WARRANTY WAS NOT HONORED, AND CONSUMER HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. VEHICLE WAS BEING RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. CONSUMER CONSULTED THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT A POSSIBLE REIMBURSEMENT. AS OF TODAY THEY HAVE BEEN VERY UNCOOPERATIVE. ALSO, THE REAR COIL SPRING BROKE, AND CONSUMER AGAIN HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR REPAIRS. *AK
WHILE BRAKING BRAKE PEDAL STUCK. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE IN THE DRIVEWAY VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND CONSUMER HEARED A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE GARAGE. LEFT FRONT STRUT BROKE AND CUT THE FRONT TIRE, VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. *AK
ROTORS ON FRONT WHEELS ARE DEFECTIVE; HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONE TIME AND AM HAVING TROUBLE AGAIN; VIBRATE WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. *NM
WHILE TRAVELING ANYWHERE BETWEEN 10 MPH TO 60 MPH ENGINE STALLS OUT AS IF TOO MUCH AIR OR NOT ENOUGH GAS. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF DOWNTOWN CITY TRAFFIC AND ON MAJOR INTERSTATES OVER THE LAST 2 MONTHS. IT TAKES FROM 10 MINUTES TO ONE HOUR TO START CAR UP, THEN RUNS WITH NO PROBLEMS FOR A WEEK OR SO THEN ALL STARTS AGAIN. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AT THE TIME PROBLEM OCCURS, MUST TAKE TO MECHANIC TO HAVE DIAGNOSED. EACH TIME HE'S BEEN UNABLE TO PIN POINT THE PROBLEM. HAVE SPENT OVER $1000 IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS WITH THIS PROBLEM AND CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM WITH NEW PARTS REPLACED. MECHANIC UNABLE TO FIND THE ROOT PROBLEM, DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE CODES HAVE BEEN COMING UP INCOMPLETE CODES. I AM STILL EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM AFTER REPLACING THE GASKET, EGR VALVE, OXYGEN SENSOR, TEMP CONTROL VALVE. MECHANIC NOW WATCHING THE INTAKE CONTROL VALVE WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE. ALSO WATCHING THE FUEL PUMP, BUT THAT IS TESTING OK. ANY IDEAS AS TO WHAT THE SOLUTION TO THIS IS. I CAN'T AFFORD MUCH MORE MONEY FOR A 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. ANY ASSISTANCE IN GETTING FORD TO FIX THIS PROBLEM OR FORCING A RECALL WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. DOES THIS CONSTITUTE THE MN LEMON LAW? HELP. *AK
THE FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING OF MY 2000 FORD TAURUS CORRODED AND SNAPPED. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR WAS PARKED, BUT THE SHARP BROKEN END OF THE COIL PUNCTURED THE SIDEWALL OF MY TIRE. I HAD TO HAVE A NEW SPRING PUT IN AND HAD TO BUY A NEW TIRE.*AK
POWER STEERING WAS REPAIRED THREE TIMES. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK

WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED ON AN EVEN ROAD, MY RIGHT FRONT SPRING BROKE, PUNCTURING MY FRONT TIRE AND CAAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.*AK
WHILE BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY FRONT STRUTS SNAPPED. AS A RESULT, THE SPRING PUNCTURED THE DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. *AK CONSUMER REPLACED TIRE AND STRUT. *LA
ON MARCH 16, 04, A PART TO CORRECT THE STEERING ON MY 2000 FORD TAURUS WAS REPLACED. IN OCTOBER 05, THE SAME PART NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THE PARTS ARE ONLY UNDER WARRANTY FOR 12 MONTHS. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. I HAVE PAID TO HAVE THIS PART REPLACED. *JB
WHILE PARKED FRONT PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING MALFUNCTIONED. AS A RESULT, THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE PUNCTURED. DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING BECAUSE IT HAD NOT FAILED YET. *AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A BRAKE PROBLEM. CONSUMER WAS PARKING THE VEHICLE AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND CONSUMER WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. CONSUMER RECEIVED A SECOND OPINION AT AN INDEPENDENT BRAKE SHOP, AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO BRAKE PROBLEM. *AK WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. *NM
WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE BUT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT STOPPING. TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER CAR THE CONSUMER HIT A CURB RUINING TWO NEW TIRES AND WHEELS. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES A RECALL (02V266000) ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE IS POSSIBLY THE CAUSE OF HER BRAKE FAILURE. *PH *NM

COIL SPRING BROKE UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE CAR WAS IN MOTION; DESTROYED DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE, STABAR, AND PUNCTURED STRUT; CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOST
ONGOING/CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE STALLING AT LOW SPEED OF 25 MPH OR LOWER. VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK AFTER BEING SERVICED THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TC
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER APPLIED BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF VEHICLE. THEN, DROVE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING OUT OF THE GARAGE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE, DAMAGING THE STRUT AND PUNCTURING THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. THE COIL SPRING WAS LOGGED BETWEEN THE TIRE AND THE WHEEL. THIS MADE IT DIFFICULT TO REMOVE THE PUNCTURED TIRE OR TOW VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TAKEN OUT OF THE GARAGE WITH FLOOR JACKS BECAUSE THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WOULDN'T TURN. ONCE OUT OF THE GARAGE THEY WERE ABLE TO SLID THE VEHICLE ONTO THE TOW TRUCK. THE FRONT COIL SPRING WAS REPLACED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WASN'T PROVIDED BY THE DEALERSHIP. *AK *SC
MY 2000 RORD TAURUS SES HAS ONLY 33000 MILES AND HAS EXTREME VIBRATIONS WHEN THE BRAKES ARE USED WHEN THEY ARE HOT FROM A LONG TRIP OR IN COMMUTING TRAFFIC. THEY OPERATE NORMALLY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE COOL . I HAVE TAKEN NO ACTION TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM TO DATE. HOWVER, I INTEND TO CHECK WITH THE DREALER BECAUSE THE VIBRATIONS ARE GETTING EXCESSIVE AND LOSS OF CONTROL IS OCCURRING. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE CAR WILL STALL, IT WILL CHOKE, AND COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP DID A DIAGNOSTIC ON VEHICLE, AND SHE WAS UNSURE OF WHAT THE PART WAS CALLED, BUT IT WAS SOMETHING ELECTRICAL UNDER THE ENGINE (SENSOR SWITCH). SHE TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC FOR REPAIR OF THE PART THAT THE DEALER DIAGNOSED AS THE PROBLEM. THE PART HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AND STILL HAS NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM FIRST BEGAN IN MARCH 2004. SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THIS PROBLEM HER CAR CUT OFF AT LEAST 12 TIMES. FOUR OF THOSE 12 TIMES WAS WHILE SHE WAS ON THE FREEWAY. *AK
SUDDEN FAILURE OF CYLINDER/VALVE IN 2000 TAURUS S/W WITH ONLY 28,000 MILES.*AK
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH. THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED UPPER BODY INJURIES AS A RESULT. *NM *LA

WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE. FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE, PUNCTURING THE TIRE. *AK THE CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE THE SPRINGS, STRUTS, SWAY BAR AND ALIGNMENT AT 29965 MILES. ALSO REPLACED TIRES FOR SAFETY SAKE. *BF *NM
THE FRONT STRUT WAS DAMAGED WHEN THE FRONT SPRING BROKE CUTTING THE TIRE. *PH THE CONSUMER WAS LEAVING OUT OF HIS DRIVEWAY WHEN THE FRONT TIRE BLEWOUT. THE TIRE LOOKED AS IF I WERE CUT ON THE INSIDE WITH A KNIFE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVER FRONT SPRING HAD BROKEN AND CUT THE TIRE. THE CONSUMER WAS LATER TOLD THAT THE FRONT STRUT HAD BEEN DAMAGED WHEN THE SPRING BROKE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE COMPENSATED. *SC *JB
THE VEHICLE'S FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE WITHOUT WARNING WHILE BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY.*MR THE SPRING PUNCTURED THEN SPLIT THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE 360 DEGREES AROUND. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. *NM
THE CAR WAS JUST FILLED WITH GAS AND CAR WASHED THE NIGHT BEFORE OUR PLANNED TRIP. YES A HIGHWAY TRIP WAS PLANNED! WE GOT INTO THE CAR IN THE MORNING AND WENT TO BACK UP AND WE HEARD A NOISE AFTER ONLY MOVING AROUND A FOOT. THE CAR FELT FUNNING IN THE STEERING. SO I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND FOUND THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS FLAT. SO I WENT TO THE GARAGE TO GET THE AIR COMPRESSOR TO FILL THE TIRE. WHEN TRYING TO FILL THE TIRE I FOUND THAT IT WOULD NOT HOLD ANY AIR. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION I FOUND THE TIRE'S INSIDE WALL WAS SLIT WIDE OPEN. GREAT! SO THEN PROCEEDED TO REMOVE THE TIRE TO HAVE IT REPLACED. THE GOODYEAR TIRE WAS JUST PURCHASED THIS SUMMER AND ONLY HAD 13000 MILES ON IT. THAT'S WHEN I FOUND THE SPRING AROUND THE STRUT HAD BROKEN AND CUT THE TIRE. WHAT WOULD OF HAPPEN IF WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY AND CRASHED. WOULD THEY SAY THAT THE TIRE JUST BLEW AND THAT'S WHAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. HOW MANY 2000 TAURUS CRASHES HAVE HAPPENED AND THE TRUE ROOT CAUSE OF THE SPRING WAS NEVER IDENTIFIED? OR HAS IT? THIS IS THE FIRST BROKEN SPRING I HAVE EVER HAD ON A VEHICAL AND THIS ONE ONLY HAS 45,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE DRIVEN VEHICALS OVER 150,000 MILES WITHOUT THIS EVER HAPPENING. THERE HAS TO BE A DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING ISSUE HERE FOR THAT TO HAPPEN. THE SPRINGS FRACTURE LOOKED CLEAN AND NEW! I PLAN TO RETAIN THE PARTS BUT FEEL SOMEONE NEEDS TO COVER THE COST AND TIME TO HAVE EVERYTHING REPAIRED. WILL IT HAPPEN AGAIN? SHOULD WE GET RID OF THE CAR? PLEASE ADVISE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH COMSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. UPON IMACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER TOWED VEHICLE TO REPAIR SHOP DUE TO EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING OVER BLACK ICE 20-30 MPH CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, CRASHING INTO AN EMBANKMENT. UPON IMPACT, FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
I HAD JUST PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY RECENTLY AND HEARD A LOUD CRACK COME FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. I THOUGHT I HIT SOMETHING, SO I STOPPED THE CAR AND WENT OUT AND LOOKED AT THE REAR SUSPENSION. I HAD HEARD OF THE FRONT SPRINGS CRACKING, BUT NOT THE REARS, BUT I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THE REAR SPRING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR HAD CRACKED. HAVING TAKEN AUTOMOTIVE CLASSES BEFORE, I WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE SPRINGS MYSELF WITH A NEW SET FROM FORD, BYPASSING THE DEALER BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF REPLACING THE SPRINGS. THIS WAS AN INCONVENIENCE FOR ME AT THE TIME, AND IT ENDED UP COSTING ME MONEY FOR A PART THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE FAILED. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF THE PART FAILURE, AND FORD DIDN'T HELP ME MUCH, SO I DID NOT REPORT IT. IT WASN'T UNTIL I TALKED TO OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS RECENTLY THAT I CHOSE TO REPORT THIS TO YOU AT THE NHTSA. I HOPE SOMETHING IS DONE TO PREVENT FUTURE FAILURES, IT COULD BE DANGEROUS IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY OR MOVING AT A FASTER SPEED. THE CAR IS A 2000 FORD TAURUS SEL.
