BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT. AS A RESULT VEHICLE LOCKED ITSELF IN PARK. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK THE VEHICLE BRAKE LIGHT WENT OUT AND AS A RESULT THE SHIFT LEVER COULD NOT BE MOVED FROM THE PARK POSITION. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THIS FEATURE WAS NOT REFERENCED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL NOR WAS THERE ANY INDICATION ON THE DASH THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE. CONSUMER COULDN'T BELIEVE THIS FEATURE WASN'T ADDRESSED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. A FORD SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THE SAFETY FEATURE WASN'T IN THE MANUAL BECAUSE FORD THOUGHT IT WAS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE CONSUMER NOT TO MENTION THE LOCKING IN PARK FEATURE. *PH *NLM
WITH ONLY 24,533 MILES ON OUR 2000 FORD TAURUS STATION WAGON, THE FIRESTONE STORE, HURST, TX, REPLACED FOUR TIRES DUE TO BELT SEPARATION. REPLACED WITH ORIGINAL FORD TIRE: DOT#VN8XT3B2503 AFFINITY TOURING T3 P215/60R16 TLBL PS . *AK
BOTH SEAT BELT RETRACTORS IN THE BACK SEAT (MIDDLE SEAT OF WAGON) ARE NOT FUNCTIONING AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. $400 FOR AN OBVIOUS SAFETY DEFECT AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED. THE SEAT BELTS STICK AND NEED TO BE SHOVED BACK INTO THE RETRACTOR SLOWLY TO GET ANY GIVE TO THEM. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS BUT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. FROM WHAT I'M READING, THE FRONT ONES ARE GOING TO GO TOO. PLUS THE WAY BACK SEAT. WE HAVE THREE CHILDREN. ALSO, ONE OF THE BELTS IS FRAYING.*AK
MY WIFE REAR ENDED A CAR AND THE AIRBAG LET OUT A PUFF OF GREYISH SMOKE BUT DID NOT DEPLOY. AFTER THE AIRBAG/SEAT BELT LIGHT HAS STAYED ON. KRIEGER FORD DEALERSHIP HAD PUT IT ON THEIR DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE AND SAID THE AIRBAG WAS FINE, BUT THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I BELIEVE THIS MUCH IS TRUE BECAUSE IT WAS ACTING FUNNY EVEN BEFORE THE . I AM SUSPICIOUS OF THEIR AIRBAG ASSESMENT HOWEVER BECAUSE I READ WHERE 2000 (THIS IS WHAT I HAVE) AND 2001 TAURUS AND SABLES ARE BEING INVESTIGATED BECAUSE THERE WERE ABOUT 240 INSTANCES OF AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING AS OF JULY 2003.
I HAVE HAD A HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE IN THIS CAR. THE ACCELERATOR HAS STUCK AND SPEED FASTLY EXCEEDED. THIS TIME WHICH I MAY ADD IS THE LAST TIME BECAUSE I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO WHERE I PURCHASED IT , I ALMOST WENT UNDERNEATH AN 18 WHEELER IN STEADY TRAFFIC. MY DAUGHTER WAS WITH ME ON THIS OCCASION. I WILL NOT RISK HER LIFE OR THE LIVES OF OTHERS INCLUDING MYSELF. I AM CONCERNED THE DEALER WILL RUIN MY CREDIT BUT I HAVE BEEN SEEKING COUNCIL AND HAVE MANY OFFERS TO TAKE THE CASE. THERE HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF OTHER THINGS LIKE THE AIR BAG LIGHT, BRAKES HAVE FAILED ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN AND WILL NOT RESTART. *AK
POOR DESIGN ON BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ON BRAKE PEDAL. THE WIRES THAT CONNECT TO THE BRAKE INDICATOR SWITCH ARE MOUNTED ON THE FRONT END OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THEY ARE POSITIONED 3-4 INCHES ABOVE FOOT LEVEL, A LOCATION WHERE THE WIRES ARE VULNERABLE TO BEING SHEARED OFF WITH AN ERRANT FOOT. ADDITIONALLY, THE WIRE COMING FROM THE WIRE LOOM IS TOO SHORT, LEADING TO STRAIN ON THE WIRE. THE RESULT IS THE WIRE DISCONNECTS AND YOU LOSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS. IN OUR CASE, THE WIRE HELD ON ONLY BY THE INSULATION AND WOULD CONNECT WHEN THE BRAKE WAS LIGHTLY APPLIED (ALLOWING YOU TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK), BUT WOULD FAIL WHEN THE BRAKE WAS FULLY DEPRESSED*AK.
VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED IN TRAFFIC. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SHOULDER FROM THE "HIGH SPEED LANE" AND ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO SIT, IT STARTED AND HAS NOT STALLED SINCE. THIS WAS POTENTIALLY DISASTROUS.*AK
LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT, WHEN SPRING BROKE.
I OWN A 2000 TAURUS WAGON WITH 80,000 MILES AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY I PUT THE SHIFTER IN DRIVE, I ACCELERATED GENTLY, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. I REACHED DOWN TO RELEASE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, BUT IT WAS ALREADY RELEASED. I ACCELERATED HARD AND WITHIN MOVING FORWARD 6 INCHES I HEARD A BIG BANG AND THE RIGHT FRONT END DROPPED. THE COIL SPRING HAD BROKEN WHILE PARKED. WITHIN 1 MONTH THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, I PUT THE SHIFTER IN REVERSE, ACCELERATING GENTLY, THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE, AND AGAIN I THOUGHT I HAD FORGOTTEN TO RELEASE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. NO SUCH LUCK. I ACCELERATED MORE HEAVILY AND WITHIN 6 INCHES OF BACKING UP, I HEARD A BIG BANG AND THE LEFT FRONT DROPPED. THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE LEFT FRONT AS HAPPENED ON THE RIGHT FRONT. THE SPRINGS HAD BROKEN WHILE PARKED. THE SPEAR LIKE BROKEN END WAS AGAINST THE TIRE. WHEN I MOVED THE CAR THE SPRING PIERCED THE TIRE. I STILL HAVE THE SPRING AND TIRE FROM THE RIGHT FRONT. SINCE THE LEFT FRONT BROKE I STILL HAVE NOT MOVED THE CAR. *PH
CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT DISENGAGE BY ITSELF AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. DEALER STATED CALL NHTSA.*AK
TAIL LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME JUST LIKE SOME ONE IS STEPPING ON THE BRAKE. DEALER NOTIFIED. CONSUMER STATED THERE IS NO WARRANTY FOR THIS VEHICLE. *AK
THE CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE SURGED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE EITHER PULLING OR REVERSING INTO THE DRIVEWAY. ALSO, THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH OR MORE. PLEASE. PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB

WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK THE VEHICLE STALLED ON DECLARATION AND STALLED WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO TURN INTO THE DRIVEWAY. THE HAD TO PUT THE GEAR SHIFT BACK INTO IDLE AND TURN THE KEY TO START. *SCC *JB
FRONT COILS SPRING MALFUNCTIONED. AS A RESULT, FRONT END WAS SITTING VERY LOW .CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FRONT END WILL COLLAPSE WHILE DRIVING. A RECALL WAS ISSUED, HOWEVER THE PART WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL DECEMBER. *AK
BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WENT OUT WHILE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED STOPPING THE CRUISE CONTROL. *LA

CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND THE AIR BAG COULD BE INOPERATIVE IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
THE VEHICLE ALIGNMENT WILL EAT OFF TIRE, CAUSING TREAD WEAR AND TEAR. *AK THE FRONT TIRE(S) HAD WORE OUT. THE DEALER SENT THE CONSUMER TO THE TIRE COMPANY AND THEY SENT THE CONSUMER BACK TO THE DEALER STATING IT WAS AN ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND SOON AFTER THE WIRES WERE SEEN EXTENDING OUT OF THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *SCC *JB
WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO REPAIR SHOP. THE GASKETS WERE RUSTED WHICH CAUSED OIL AND COOLANT TO GET INTO THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH AND NO WARNING, THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE EXPERIENCED A BLOW OUT, AND CAUSED THE TIRE TO SPLIT. CONTINENTAL MODEL CONTACT SA,SIZE#P21560R16,DOT#ACX844P1900. CONSUMER HAD TO PULL OVER. *AK *CB *JB
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 40 MPH VEHICLE WAS IN A COLLISION. CONSUMER STATES THAT BOTH FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
MAIN PROBLEM IS THE TRANSMISSION....IN REVERSE IT STARTS TO BUCK AND GRIND; MOTOR MOUNT ALSO FAILED
EVERYTIME I DRIVE THE BRAKES GET REALLY HOT AND THEY FAIL AND THE ABS KEEPS PULSING AND THEN IT GETS HARD TO STOP
CONSUMER EXPERIENCED TWO BROKEN FRONT COIL SPRINGS. *PH WHILE DRIVING, THERE WAS A TERRIBLE NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END. WHEN THE CONSUMER LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE, HE FOUND TWO BROKEN FRONT COIL SPRINGS. *SCC *JB
THE LEFT REAR SPRING ON OUR 2000 FORD TAURUS FAILED. THE SHARP, JAGGED END OF THE BROKEN SPRING GOUGED THE INNER SIDEWALL OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE, BUT THE TIRE REMAINED INFLATED. WE DONT KNOW WHEN THE SPRING FAILED OR WHEN THE TIRE WAS DAMAGED. WE WERE UNAWARE OF THESE FAILURES, SO WE USED THE CAR NORMALLY DRIVING IT AT HIGHWAY SPEED AS WELL AS IN TOWN. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. THE FORD DEALER DISCOVERED THE REAR SPRING FAILURE AND THE TIRE DAMAGE DURING A ROUTINE ANNUAL STATE SAFETY INSPECTION. WHEN I SEARCHED THE NHTSA WEBSITE, I LEARNED THAT TAURUS FRONT SPRING FAILURES WERE REPORTED AT ABOUT 45000 MILES BUT NO REAR SPRING FAILURES HAD BEEN REPORTED. WE REPLACED THE FRONT & REAR SPRINGS. OUR CAR WAS IN THE DEALERS REPAIR SHOP FOR 25 DAYS. FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSED TO COVER THE ENTIRE REPAIR COST. FORD DIDNT PROVIDE A LONER CAR. I DON'T KNOW IF FORD HAS A PROACTIVE PROGRAM TO ADDRESS THIS SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. THE 2000 TAURUS SPRING FAILURES LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE DOUBLED IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS. WHEN DO YOU PLAN TO ANNOUNCE THE DANGER OF THESE SUDDEN SPRING FAILURES? AT THIS POINT, IM UNEASY DRIVING OUR 2000 TAURUS EVEN WITH THE NEW SPRINGS. AND, IM REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE WHEN ANOTHER 1999 OR 2000 TAURUS PASSES US ON THE HIGHWAY. DO THE 2001, 2002, 2003 & 2004 TAURUS CARS HAVE THIS PROBLEM TOO? END YOU PICTURES OF THE GOUGED TIRE AND BROKEN SPRING. WHERE SHOULD WE SEND THEM? *AK
GAS GAUGE READS IMPROPERLY. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
2000 FORD TAURUS, BRAKE LAMP SWITCH ALWAYS STAYS ON. NHTSA SHOWS THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. FORD WOULD NOT HONOR THE RECALL ON MY CAR AND REPLACE THE FAULTY BRAKE SWITCH, DEALER SAID MY CAR WAS NOT ONE OF THE 157,000 CARS EFFECTED. SO I HAD TO PAY $213.00 TO HAVE THEM REPLACE THE FAULTY BRAKE SWITCH THAT WAS A PROBLEM LISTED AS A RECALL ON NHTSA. NHTSA RECALL NO. 01V078/FORD RECALL NO. 01S08. *AK
PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE LAMP SWITCH WENT OUT ON 2000 FORD TAURUS. *MR THE BRAKE LIGHT HAD GONE OUT WHICH WAS A RECALL ITEM. THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH HAD GONE OUT AGAIN AND THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO OUT OF PARK INTO DRIVE BUT WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN INTO DRIVE (G2). THE CONSUMER WAS UNAWARE THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS OUT, WHICH WAS THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IN LESS THAN THREE YEARS. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED A REFUND. THERE WAS NOISE WHICH HAD COME FROM THE BLOWER MOTOR, AND THE FUEL GAUGE ACTED ERRATIC AND THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. *SCC *JB

THE CONSUMER HAD GOTTEN OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND SAW THE FRONT DRIVER TIRE WAS FLAT. WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD TAKEN OFF, THE FRONT COIL SPRING HAD BROKE IN HALF AND ACTED AS A KNIFE AND SLICED THE TIRE. *SCC *JB

THE TRANSMISSION MADE A WHINNING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TRANSPORTED TO A DEALERSHIP, AND THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NEEDED.*AK PH *JB
SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THE FRONT BRAKES LOCKED UP, ESPECIALLY IN WET WEATHER. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE VEHICLE TWICE, AND STATED THERE WERE NO OTHER REMEDIES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *AK THE BRAKE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THE FRONT BRAKES LOCKED UP IN EMERGENCY STOP SITUATIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION, AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, AND THE CONSUMER WAS INJURED. *JB
CAR SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING IT. HAVE BEEN BACK AND FORTH TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED SINCE THE SUMMER. CAR WAS IN THE SHOP A MONTH AGO AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE RELAY SWITCH TO THE STARTER. CAR HAS NOT BEEN FIXED PROPERLY BECAUSE ON 11/07/03 CAR SHUT DOWN 3 TIMES AND A FEW MORE TIMES OVER THE WEEKEND. CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 11/10/03 SERVICE TECH CALLED AND STATED THAT IT IS THE BLACK BOX AND THAT IT WILL COST $1500.00 TO GET IT FIXED.*AK
NHTSA#01-V-078-000 VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ADJUSTABLE PEDALS. IF THE GREASE FROM THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL ASSEMBLY ENTERS THE STOP LAMP SWITCH, IT CAN CONTAMINATE THE CONTACTS LEADING TO CARBON BUILD UP, AND POTENTIALLY, A SHORT CIRCUIT.CONSUMER HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

COMPLAINT REGARDING HAVING TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED.*MR THE VEHICLE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FAILED PRIOR TO RECALL NOTIFICATION. THE CONSUMER HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THEREFORE ONLY HAD TO PAY A $50 DEDUCTIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONSUMER CALL THE MANUFACTURER AND REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT BUT WAS DENIED. *NM
VEHICLE'S LEFT REAR TIRE FELL OFF . MR WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS ON THE DECELERATION RAMP TO A PLAZA THE LEFT REAR WHEEL FELL OFF. THE WHEEL WENT INTO THE PARKING AREA, STRUCK A VEHICLE THEN BOUNCED AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE WHEEL CAME TO REST BETWEEN THE TWO VEHICLES (OHIO TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT). *NLM

MOISTURE IN THE DPFE SENSOR IS CAUSING MY 2000 FORD TAURUS WAGON TO RUN ROUGHLY AT APPROX. 1500 RPMS AND OCCASIONALLY THE MIL WILL LIGHT. IF I DRY IT OUT IT RUNS OK AND THE MIL GOES OUT AFTER A FEW STARTS. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD EXPLOSIONS I HAVE READ ABOUT AS WELL.*AK
THE TRANSMISSION SHUT DOWN WHILE CROSSING A BUSY INTERSECTION. THE TRANSMISSION NOW WORKS ONLY IN THE REVERSE GEAR. *NLM *CB *NLM
THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH WAS REPLACED ON THIS CAR UNDER A "SAFETY RECALL" BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY. THEY STATED THAT THE SWITCH MAY FAIL, AND COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE LAMPS TO STAY LIT, OR NOT COME ON AT ALL. THIS WAS DONE AT AROUND 15,000 MILES. AT 39,000 MILES THE SWITCH HAS FAILED AGAIN. THE BRAKE LAMPS WILL NOT COME ON, I CANNOT MOVE THE GEAR SELECTOR OUT OF "PARK", AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT DISABLE WHEN YOU PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARD, AND FORD HAS ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE SWITCH, BUT, UNFORTUNATELY, THE REPLACEMENT SWITCHES ARE ALSO DEFECTIVE. THE DEFECT OBVIOUSLY CAUSES SEVERAL SAFETY HAZARDS AND SERIOUS RISK OF AN ACCIDENT. THE WORST PART IS, MY DEALER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE RECALL HAS ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED, AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE RECALL WORK DONE AGAIN. FORD MOTOR CUSTOMER SERVICE CONFIRMED THIS DURING PHONE CONVERSATIONS WITH THEM. THIS CONCERNS ME BECAUSE YOU CANNOT SAY YOU HAVE FIXED A DEFECT IF THE DEFECT KEEPS OCCURRING OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THE PROBLEM, WHICH THEY HAVE NOT DONE. I HAVE ALSO HAD A WIPER MOTOR COVER REPLACED ON THIS CAR UNDER RECALL. THIS WAS DUE TO A RISK OF FIRE. DOES THIS MEAN THAT I STILL HAVE A RISK OF FIRE? THEY TOLD ME THE RECALL FIXED THE BRAKE LIGHT PROBLEM, BUT IT DID NOT. COULD IT BE THAT MY WIPER MOTOR MAY STILL CAUSE A FIRE, BUT IT IS OK, FORD HAS ALREADY FIXED IT, SO THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE? THIS IS VERY POOR JUDGMENT. I HOPE THE NHTSA WILL COMPEL FORD MOTOR TO FIND A PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND REIMBURSE THOSE THAT HAVE PAID FOR THIS REPAIR OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS. *NLM
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT PROPERLY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY, THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM, HOWEVER AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED, THE DEALER STATED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
MY WIFE WAS LEAVING WORK AND UPON SETTING IN THE CAR HEAR A LOAD NOISE, ON INVESTIGATION BY A AAA MECHANIC THE FRONT COIL SPRING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAD BROKEN AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE PLASTIC LINKAGE CONNECTING THE ANTI-SWAY BAR WAS ALSO BROKEN. IF THE CAR HAD BEEN MOVING IT WOULD HAVE WRECKED AND POSSIBLY ROLLED. I THOUGHT THIS HAD BEEN FIXED ON EARLIER MODELS OF THE TAURUS, I KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL TO PUT ANTI-PUNCTURE PROTECTION FROM BROKEN SPRINGS. *NLM
