THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT AS STATED IN A RECALL THAT WAS ISSUED, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. *JB
THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED 3 TIMES. THE LAST TIME THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS AN INTERNAL PROBLEM WITH THE OVER DRIVE. *JB
I HAVE A FORD TARUS 2000, WITH 41,000 MILES, MY WIFE WENT TO DRIVE THE CAR AND BEFORE SHE STARTED THE CAR -THE CAR WAS STATIONARY- THERE WAS AN EXPLOSIVE SOUND IN THE FRONT DUE TO THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLOWING OUT. I RAISED THE CAR WITH A JACK AND FOUND THE COIL SPRING HAD BROKEN APART AND WAS EMBEDDED IN THE TIRE. HAD SOMEONE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR AT 70 MPH IT IS QUITE LIKELY THE CAR WOULD HAVE ROLLED OVER. IF A SPRING FAILURE DOES HAPPEN WHILE THE CAR IS AT DRIVING VELOCITY AND CAUSES THE CAR TO WRECK IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, THE BROKEN SPRING WILL BE SEEN AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH AND NOT AS THE CAUSE OF THE CRASH. THE FORD PEOPLE TOLD ME THERE IS NO RECALL AND THAT THEY ARE ALLOWED 1% FAILURE RATE BEFORE A RECALL IS INITIATED. THE SPRING IS VERY CRITICAL TO STEERING AND TO ALLOW 10,000 FAILURES, A POSSIBLE 10,000 FATALITIES PER MILLION IS UNACCEPTABLE. *JB

THE TIRE DEVELOPED A BLISTER ON THE SIDEWALL AT 15,000 MILES. *JB
I OWN A 2000 FORD TAURUS WAGON SE WITH OEM TOURING CONTACT AS - P215/60R16 - 94T TIRES. THE FORD'S B-COLUMN STICKER LISTS THE CORRECT TIRE INFLATION AS 30 PSI, BOTH FRONT AND REAR. THE AMERICAN TIRE DISTRIBUTOR 2003 TIRE GUIDE, PUBLISHED BY BENNETT GARFIELD LISTS THE CORRECT PRESSURE FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL AS 33 PSI. I HAVE SUFFERED FROM SEVERE CUPPING THAT I BELIEVE TO BE RELATED TO FOLLOWING, THE FORD INFLATION SPECIFICATION. I AM FORCED TO REPLACE MY TIRES WITH ONLY 36,000 MILES AFTER AT LEAST 12,000 MILES OF CHATTER FROM THE DAMAGED TREADS. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE USING THESE TIRES. *JB
2000 FORD TAURUS SE, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, 3.0 24 VALVE ENGINE. THIS MONTH WE HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES WITH ONLY 45,500 MILES ON THE CAR. THE VEHICLE IS KEPT IN HOUSE GARAGE. AFTER DRIVING A FEW DAYS ON RAIN SLICK ROADS AND AFTER BEING IN THE GARAGE OVERNIGHT THE REAR BRAKES HAD LOCKED SHUT AND WOULD NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO MOVE. IT TOOK SEVERAL TIMES THROUGH-OUT THE DAY OF GENTLE SHIFTING BETWEEN DRIVE AND REVERSE TO GE THE REAR BRAKES TO UNLOCK AND FREE THE CAR TO MOVE. TOOK THE CAR IMMEDIATELY TO A NEARBY GOODYEAR DEALER TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED. THE BRAKES APPEARED TO HAVE RUSTED SHUT. THE BRAKE CYLINDER COVERS ON BOTH REAR WHEELS HAD BURNED HOLES IN THEM FROM THE EXCESSIVE HEAT CREATED BY DRIVING WITH RUSTED BRAKES. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE PROBLEM, AND IT DID NOT SHOW ANY EVIDENCE OF BEING LOCKED. CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER TO FIND OUT IF FORD WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WAS ADVISED THAT SINCE THE 3 YEAR, 36,000 MILE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED FORD WASN'T INTERESTED IN REVIEWING THE PROBLEM. FORD DEALER OFFERED TO MAKE REPAIRS AT MY EXPENSE AND THEN FILE A REPORT WITH FORD. I CHOSE TO HAVE GOODYEAR FIX THE BRAKES, AND KEPT THE RUSTED BURNED PARTS FOR FUTURE REVIEW IF NECESSARY. SITUATION CREATED A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEREBY THE REAR BRAKES COULD HAVE HEATED TO THE POINT OF CAUSING A FIRE OR OTHER SERIOUS PROBLEMS IF WE HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE ON A LONG DISTANCE DRIVE. FORD AND THE NHTSA NEEDS TO LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM AS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. *NLM

BRAKE ROTORS HAVE A FAILURE, THEY CONTINUOUSLY WARP. DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE ROTORS AND PADS. BUT PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF CONTINUES. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK *CB
NAR 06/19/2003. *MR THE CONSUMER HAS ENCOUNTERED NUMEROUS AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. FIRST THE TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING FLUID THE BRAKES FAILED TWICE IN A YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT DOBBS FORD TWO TIMES AND BOTH PARTS WERE NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND AGAIN AFTER BEING FIXED THE BRAKES FAILED. AS A RESULT OF THE VEHICLE DEFECT THE CONSUMER HAS LOST HER CAR INSURANCE AND IS UNABLE TO PURCHASE ANYMORE BECAUSE NO OTHER COMPANY WANT TO RISK ANOTHER ACCIDENT WITH THE BRAKES. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES FORD SHOULD EXCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS CAR BEFORE SOME IS HURT. *CB THE CONSUMERS NEPHEW WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE BLOCK AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *JB
MY CHILDRENS SAFETY. WE PURCHASED A NEW 2000 FORD TAURUS STATION WAGON. WE WANTED THIS TO BE OUR FAMILY VEHICLE FOR ATLEAST 5 YEARS UNTIL PAID OFF! WE RELIED ON THE SAFETY & QUALITY OF FORD. WE HAVE 3 YOUNG CHILDREN 11,9 & 4 YEARS. ALL PETITE GIRLS. WELL NOW WE HAVE MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEMS...OUR 4 YEAR OLD WILL BE OUT GROWING CAR SEAT. THE STATION WAGONS ONLY HAVE 2 SHOULDER STRAPS & 3 LAP BELTS IN THE REAR SEAT. SO I GUESS ONE OF OUR CHILDREN WILL BE IN THE DANGER SEAT REAR MIDDLE ONLY LAP BELT. SO WE HAVE THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THE NEW BOOSTER SEAT LAW GOES INTO EFFECT. WITH THE NEW LAW ALL BOOSTER SEATS REQUIRE SHOULDER STRAPS SO WE STILL HAVE ONE IN THE DANGER SEAT. I AM WORKING ON THIS FORD IS NOT REPLYING THEY SAY MY EXPECTATIONS ARE TOO HIGH & THEY CAN NO LONGER ASSIST ME. WE ARE REALLY IN A BAD POSITION HERE. THE FORD TAURUS SEDANS 2000 MODELS HAVE 3 SHOULDER STRAPS IN REAR SEAT. IF WE DID NOT HAVE 3 CHILDREN WE WOULD NOT HAVE A STATION WAGON. WE THOUGHT THIS WAS A FAMILY VEHICLE. WE STILL HAVE 3 MORE YEARS TO PAY ON THIS & WE NEED A VAN FOR SAFETY FOR OUR CHILDREN! I HAVE CALLED FORD, WROTE LETTERS TO FORD, HAD NEWS CHANNELS ON THIS I WANT SOMETHING DONE. WE ARE LOYAL FORD CUSTOMERS WERE I SHOUDL SAY. SAFETY IS MORE OF AN ISSUE NOW. WE HAD A 1994 FORD TAURUS WAGON IT WAS TOTALLED WE WERE STOPPED HIT IN THE REAR 5 CAR PILE UP. IT WAS TERRIBLE!! WE JUST PAID THAT CAR OFF. 94 WITH 38,000 MILES GREAT CONDITION WE WANTED TO GO WITHOUT CAR PAYMENT. WE GOT 5 MORE YEARS OF PAYMENTS NOW THIS. ALSO I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS FEB 2002 MANUFACTURES WERE TO BE FIXING THIS WELL 2003 STAITON WAGON STILL ONLY 2 SHOULDER STRAPS IN REAR SEAT.
DURING A VERY COLD SNAP, MY WIFE STARTED THE CAR AND HEAR A BANG. I FOUND THE FRONT COIL SPRING HAD SNAPPED AND IMPALED THE TIRE. IT WAS AN ALMOST CLEAN BREAK, WITH A BROKEN WHISKER OF STEEL AT THE PERIMETER OF THE COIL. FORD HAD OFFERED TO SUPPLY A SHROUD TO PROTECT TIRES OF CARS IN "RUST-PRONE " STATES, BUT THIS WAS NO RUST-THROUGH. IT WAS CLEARLY A CASE OF BAD STEEL. OTHERS HAVE HAD VARIOUS LUCK WITH FORD, EVEN COVERING THE COST OF NEW SPRINGS AND INSTALLATION. I WAS TOLD NO, THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, AND THAT I DIDN'T HAVE THE SHROUDS INSTALLED. WHERE WOULD I BE THEN, EXCEPT HAVING A GOOD TIRE AND A BROKEN SPRING THAT THEY STILL WOULDN'T COVER? *TR
ON LEFT REAR WHEEL, THE NUT WHICH HOLDS THE TIRE TO THE SPINDLE SPUN OFF OF THE AXLE/SPINDLE ASSEMBLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. THE ENTIRE WHEEL/DRUM ASSEMBLY PARTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND BOUNCED OFF DOWN THE ROAD AS I WAS DRIVING. *NLM MAJOR MECHANICAL FAILURE IN THE PARTS WHICH ARE MACHINED NOT TO COME LOOSE, BUT ADDITIONALLY THERE ARE NO SAFETY MECHANISMS TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN TO OTHER DRIVERS OR OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE.

THE BRAKE SYSTEM IN OUR CAR HAS NOT PERFORMED PROPERLY ON WET ROADS MANY TIMES. ON JAN 21ST, 2002 AND MAR 13TH, 2002, WE ASKED MUZI FORD TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THEY REPORTED, IT IS COMMON TO CONFUSE ABS ACTIVATION WITH DIFFICULTY STOPPING". IN FACT, OUR CAR IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH ABS. ON THE MORNING OF JAN 17TH, 2003, MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IN THE SLOW LANE OF I-95; THE CAR IN FRONT OF OUR CAR CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. HE IMMEDIATELY BRAKED. HE WAS STILL FAR AWAY, AND THE SPEED WAS ONLY 45-50 MPH, THE ROAD WAS WET AND OUR CARS BRAKE SYSTEM DID NOT WORK PROPERLY AND IT HIT THE FRONT CAR. THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS WITH OUR CAR. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON/OFF HAS BEEN ADJUSTED, THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND BOTH FRONT AXLE SEAL HAVE LEAKED TWICE; STEELING FLUID HAS LEAKED ONCE, THE BRAKE LIGHT, GAS CAP ASSEMBLY AND SOLENOID CANISTER HAVE BEEN REPLACE, AND THE WIPER MOTOR PARK SWITCH HAS BEEN RECALLED. I HAVE OWNED MY 2002 FORD TAURUS FOR 32 MONTHS. DURING THIS TIME, I HAVE HADE THE THE BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH REPLACED TWICE, NEW REAR STRUTS, REPLACED AIRBAG SYSTEM. THE CAR IS NOW BACK AT FORD TO HAVE A NEW TRANSAXEL INSTALLED. THERE HAVE BEEN MORE THAN $5,000 IN REPAIRS TO THIS CAR WHICH HAS JUST OVER 60,000 MILES.
AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *AK
2000 FORD TAURUS (24 VALVE DURATECH ENGINE) COMPLAINT #1 - WARPED ROTORS AT 21,757 MILES. PAID TO HAVE MACHINED, NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. COMPLAINT #2 - EXCESSIVE FUEL ODOR INSIDE CAR. BAD FUEL LINE GASKET $476 TO REPAIR. THIS WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT STARTED WITH REPLACEMENT OF FUEL PUMP AND FUEL INJECTORS @ ABOUT 22,000 MILES (UNDER WARRANTY) BUT NOW IS BEING REPAIRED AS A BAD FUEL LINE GASKET (NOT UNDER WARRANTY) @ 39,000 MILES AND TO THE TUNE OF $476 DOLLARS.
IN COLD WEATHER THE LIFTGATE COLLAPSED. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE LAST TWO WINTERS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THAT SOMETIMES IN COOL WEATHER THE GLASS LIFTGATE STAYS UP, IN OTHER INSTANCES WITHOUT WARNING IT SUDDENLY DROPS CAUSING PAINFUL BLOWS TO THE HEAD, HANDS OR BOTH. *TC
PASSENGER SEAT BELT IS STUCK. IT WON'T MOVE. IT WILL NOT RETRACT. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE RECALL FOR THE 1999 TAURUS. NO ONE CAN USE THE SEAT BELT BECAUSE IT WON'T MOVE.

DEALER SAID IT'S NOT UN EXPECTED FOR THE SWITCH TO FAIL AND IT IS THE CUSTOMERS RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE IT SINCE THEY DID THE RECALL ONE THE COST WAS 105.34. DT
THE PASSENGERS FRONT SAFETY BELT IS LOCKED IN PLACE AND CAN NOT BE PULLED FROM IT'S HOUSING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE BELTS HAVE A 50K MILES/5 YR WARRANTY. *NLM PH
MY SON, ROB, WAS SEVERELY INJURED IN A HIGH-SPEED CRASH WHEN THE AIR BAG IN OUR 2000 FORD TAURUS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING A HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH A FENCEPOST. THE DEALER, WHO DID NOT SEE THE CAR AFTER THE ACCIDENT, CLAIMED THAT THE REASON WAS WHERE THE POST STRUCK THE CAR. RECENTLY, WE HEARD ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION INTO AIR BAG PROBLEMS WITH THE TAURUS AND SABLE, AND I THINK THIS COULD BE ANOTHER SUCH CASE.*AK
I WAS ATTEMPTING A LANE CHANGE AT 75 MPH THE REAR END OF THE CAR CAME AROUND. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE REAR OF THE CAR SLIDES VERY EASILY, I FEEL THIS IS AN ENGINEERING FLAW. I WAS IN A ACCIDENT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL. I HAVE LOST MY CAR IN A PROBABLE TOTAL LOSS. I FEEL THAT THE REAR OF THE CAR WAS ENGINEERED INCORRECTLY. THIS IS THE SECOND SET OF CONTINENTAL TOURING CONTACT AS, 215/60R/16-94T. TIRES THE FIRST WENT OUT OF ROUND AT 2400 OR SO MILES THIS THE FRONT 2 PER THE DEALER ARE OUT OF ROUND ALSO AND PER THE SERVICE REP BRIAN BRANSON AFTER 20000 MILES IT SHOULD BE EXPECTED, AND NEEDS TO ADDRESSED WITH THE TIRE MANUFACTURE SINCE THEY CHANGED THE TIRES ONCE AND THE MILEAGE AT 22997 IS TO GREAT FOR THEM TO DO ANYTHING. I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER AND HE SAID THAT, FOR $15.00 EACH THEY COULD GET THE TIRE BACK IN ROUND THE DEALER WHO OFFERED NO HELP AND CHARGED $75.00 TO TELL ME THE TIRES ARE OUT OF ROUND AND NOT COVERED BY FORD, I GUESS SO MUCH FOR SERVICE BEING NUMBER 1. MY 2000 TAURUS REQUIRED A MAJOR REPAIR BEFORE IT WAS 2 YRS. OLD. THE TRANS. HAD TO BE OVERHAULED. THE TORQUE CONVERTER COULD NOT STAND THE HEAT PER THE REPAIR PERSON. FORD CO. WAS CONTACTED BUT REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR $1,985. THEIR REASON WAS BECAUSE I DID NOT CHOOSE TO HAVE THE WORK DONE AT A FORD SHOP. THE FORD QUOTE WAS $1,000 HIGHER THAN A NON-FORD SHOP. SINCE WHEN SHOULD A CUSTOMER BE PUNISHED FOR MITIGATING DAMAGES? I DID HAVE A FORD SHOP ANALYZE THE PROBLEM INITIALLY, BUT AT THAT TIME HAD NO ASSURANCE THAT FORD WOULD REIMBURSE ME, SO WHY SHOULD I SIGN UP TO PAY FORD'S HIGH REPAIR COSTS? THE ALUMINUM PARTS BEING USED IN THE TRANS. CAN'T STAND HEAT AND THEREFORE FAIL. ORIGINAL FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARPED TWICE CAUSING SEVERE WHEEL SHAKING AND HARD BRAKING. ONCE UNDER WARRANTY ROTORS WERE TURNED BY FORD THEN THEY WARPED AGAIN AFTER WARRANTY WAS UP. ROTORS WERE TO THIN TO TURN AGAIN CAUSING EXPENSIVE ROTOR AND PAD REPLACEMENT. NOW LESS THAN ONE YEAR OF REPLACEMENT THE ROTORS ARE STARTING TO WARP AGAIN. *NLM
TRANSAXLE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON SO I TOOK THE CAR TO LOCAL FORD SERVICE. THEY SAID THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS "LOCKED UP AND WOULDN'T TURN" (EVEN THOUGH I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR IN JUST FINE!). THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT. I GOT THEIR ESTIMATE ALONG WITH ESTIMATES FROM 2 OTHER AUTO REPAIR SHOPS IN TOWN. I CHOOSE A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND HAD THE CAR TOWED THERE. THEIR ESTIMATE WAS $1000 LESS THAN FORD SERVICE. THE NEW MECHANIC SAID THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO POOR DESIGN USING ALUMINUM PARTS THAT CAN'T TAKE THE HEAT. FORD REFUSES TO REIMBURSE ME CLAIMING THE DENIAL IS DUE TO MY HAVING THE REPAIR DONE BY AN INDEPENDENT TRANS. SHOP AND NOT AT FORD SERVICE WHICH WOULD HAVE COST ME $1000 MORE. I'M DENIED REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE I MITIGATED THE DAMAGES. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO FAIRNESS AND COMMON SENSE?

THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE REAR TIRE BECAME FLAT DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION. THE CONSUMER HAS REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES. *AK THE CONSUMER HAD GOTTEN OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND SAW THAT THE RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS FLAT AS THE CONSUMER WALKED AROUND THE CAR AND NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WAS HALF FLAT. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE TIRE STORE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE SEPERATING ON THE OUTSIDE. THE LEFT TWO WERE SEPERATING ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES. THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT HE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR REPLACING THE TIRES BECAUSE THE TIRE WERE FAULTY. *SCC
