TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING SOUND WHILE DRIVING UNDER 45 MPH. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE TIRE FROM THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER REAR COIL SPRING FAILED AND CUT INTO THE REAR TIRE ABOUT A 1/3 INCH. THE CONTACT WILL TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON APRIL 12, 2007. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.*AK
THE REAR SPRING ON MY 2000 FORD TAURUS HAVE FAILED. SUDDEN FAILURE. MY CAR STARTED TO SKID AND I NEARLY RAN INTO A TRAFFIC SIGN. THE SPRING HAS DETACHED FROM THE REAR STRUT AND IS RUBBING AGAINST MY TIRE. I AM VERY FORTUNATE THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AT 65 MPH. THE FRONT SPRINGS ARE COVERED BY A RECALL BUT THE REAR SPRINGS ARE NOT. WHY??? THIS IS THE SAME SAFETY PROBLEM THAT THE FRONT SPRING HAD. I NOW HAVE TO HAVE MY TIRE REPLACED AND I CAN'T DRIVE MY CAR. *TR
THE 2000 FORD TAURUS REAR COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, AND I DID NOT HEAR ANY CRUSHING SOUND OR NOISE. WHEN I TRIED TO STOP I HEARD NOISE. I WENT OUT, AND THE REAR LEFT TIRE WAS BURNING. FRONT SPRING HAD SAME PROBLEM 2 MONTHS AGO. *AK
ON 4/1/2007 I WAS EXITING PARKING IN FRONT OF MY HOME. HEARD A LOUD BANG. CAR FROZE. UPON EXAMINATION I FOUND THAT THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING HAD CRACKED, EXPLODED, PUNCTURED THE TIRE AND LOCKED UP THE FORWARD MOVEMENT OF THE CAR, ALL IN THE SPACE OF 3 FEET. BEING SUNDAY WITH NO SERVICE AVAILABLE I LOOKED UP RECALLS ON THE FORD SITE, FOR 2000 TAURUS AND FOUND RECALL 04S17 FOR THE FRONT COILS. UPON SENDING MY CAR ON MONDAY TO THE DEALER. I SUBSEQUENTLY WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR COILS WERE CRACKED AND ALSO NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO INQUIRE AS TO WHY I HADN'T RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND WAS TOLD THE 04S17 WAS A CUSTOMER CONVENIENCE RECALL ONLY, NOT A SAFETY RECALL. THE REAR COILS WERE NOT COVERED BUT WERE THE SAME UNITS AS THE FRONT ONES. THIS IS WRONG . THE FRONT SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL AS IN MY CASE, IN ONLY 3 MINUTES I WOULD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY FAMILY AND GRANDCHILD AT 55 MPH AND THE CAR WOULD HAVE FLIPPED AT THAT SPEED. SECONDLY , THE REAR COILS COULD DO THE SAME AS THEY CAME FROM THE SAME PARTS BATCH(ACCORDING TO FORD PARTS) AND NEED TO BE REPLACED BEFORE WE ARE CONFRONTED WITH ANOTHER FIRESTONE SITUATION FROM FORD, THAT DESTROYED MY 1996 MERCURY SABLE. *JB
MY WIFE PURCHASED A 2000 FORD TAURUS IN 2001 THE VEHICLE HAS HAD SOME PROBLEMS BUT NOTHING TO OUT OF THE ORDINARY UNTIL 033107 ON THIS DAY MY WIFE WENT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE WAS RUBBING THE WHEEL WELL I THEN PROCEEDED TO TAKE IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN AND IT WOULD BE COVERED BY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT THEY HAD DONE DUE TO COMMON PROBLEMS THAT THEY WERE HAVING W/ THESE SPRINGS. UPON COMPLETION OF THE INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE THEY FOUND THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR SPRING WAS BROKEN AS WELL THEY STATED WAS NOT COVERED THEY ONLY COVER THE FRONT SPRINGS AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT FOR THIS REPAIR SO I CHOSE TO PURCHASE THE SPRINGS FOR THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AFTER TALKING WITH THE 800 PEOPLE THAT SAID THEY DON'T HAVE A REASON TO COVER THEM BUT WHY WOULDN'T YOU COVER THEM IF THE FRONT ONES ARE KNOWN TO BREAK AND THEY ARE THE SAME COMPONENT I JUST FEEL THAT IF THESE SPRINGS ARE BREAKING THAT IT SHOULD BE A HUGE CONCERN TO EVERY ONE AND THEIR LOVED ONES WE ALL SHARE THE SAME ROADS AND WHAT IF THEY WERE TO BREAK AT 65MPH SHOULDN'T WE CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND JUST RECALL THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS IE ALL FOUR COIL SPRINGS. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH TBOTH THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR COIL SPRINGS FAILED. THE COIL SPRINGS DETACHED AND PUNCTURED THE DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WHILE ALSO DAMAGING THE PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR TIRE. A FEW WEEKS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE THE CONTACT NOTICED THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOWER TO THE GROUND THAN USUAL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE COIL SPRINGS MUST BE REPLACED. FORD ADVISED THE CONTACT TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, BUT OFFERED TO REIMBURSE THE CONTACT IF A RECALL WAS ISSUED IN THE FUTURE. THE CONTACTWAS CURRENTLY ARGUING WITH FORD AND REQUESTING THAT THEY ASSUME THE COST FOR ALL REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGEWAS 101,000 , AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. *AK
I OWN A 2000 FORD TAURUS AND HAD THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS REPLACED BY A FORD RECALL. I NOW HAVE A REAR COIL SPRING THAT IS BROKEN IN THREE PLACES AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. FORD ACKNOWLEDGES THAT IT IS THE SAME PART, BUT IT WON'T BE REPLACED FOR FREE. *JB

SEAT BELTS WILL NOT RETRACT OR WHEN RETRACTED THE BELTS WILL NOT COME OUT. *TR
(1) RECALL ON THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS BUT NOT THE REAR SPRINGS . (2) L REAR COIL SPRING BROKE AND CUT INTO THE REAR TIRE CAUSING A BLOW OUT .
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH IN COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS (BELOW 20 DEGREES). ONCE SHE WAS ABLE TO OPEN IT, SHE WOULD HAVE TO HOLD IT WITH HER LEFT HAND AND DRIVE WITH HER RIGHT BECAUSE IT WOULD TAKE SUCH A LONG TIME TO CLOSE COMPLETELY. MOST RECENTLY, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR ALSO EXHIBITED THE SAME FAILURE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED TO-DATE. SHE HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER TO-DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,408. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 99,000. 1. WIPERS DID NOT RETURN TO "PARKED" POSITION AT BOTTOM OF WINDSHIELD DUE TO OBSTRUCTION (FREEZING PRECIPITATION). 2. INTERMITTENT WIPER FUNCTION CEASED IMMEDIATELY, 2 WEEKS LATER WIPER PARK FUNCTION FAILED, ON 3/16/07 THE WIPERS FAILED WHILE IN USE ON I40. MY WIFE, 2 DAUGHTERS AND I HAD TO PARK THE CAR ON THE SIDE OF I40 FOR ALMOST 3 HOURS BEGINNING DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC BECAUSE I COULD NOT SEE THROUGH THE TORRENTIAL RAINS WITH NO WINDSHIELD WIPERS. 3. AT THIS POINT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURES. FORD MOTOR CORP. HAS STATED THERE IS A RECALL ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM AND THAT ALTHOUGH MY CAR FALLS IN THE YEAR OF THE RECALL, IS THE CORRECT MAKE AND MODEL AND ALSO EXHIBITED THE EXACT SYMPTOMS LISTED UNDER THE RECALL, THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM.*JB
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT ONE REAR COIL SPRING AND FRONT TWO COIL SPRINGS WERE FRACTURED. THE DEALER STATED THE COIL SPRINGS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE FRONT TWO COIL SPRINGS WERE REPAIRED AS PART OF RECALL #04V332000. THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE REAR COIL SPRINGS. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE REAR COIL SPRINGS SHOULD BE INCLUDED AS PART OF THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 63,000 MILES.*AK
I WAS DRIVING OUT OF AN UNDERGROUND PARKING RAMP, WENT OVER A SPEED BUMP, AND HEARD A LOUD CRASH TYPE OF SOUND. I WENT TO SEE AN AUTO MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE FRONT COIL SPRING ON MY 2000 FORD TAURUS WAS FRACTURED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS WHILE TURNING INTO THE DRIVING 5 MPH THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE NEAR THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS FLAT. THE COIL SPRING CAUSED A 1 INCH CUT IN THE TIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A RECALL#04V332000, FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS. HOWEVER, THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL FOR THE REAR COIL SPRINGS. TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 10 MPH SHE HEARD A LOUD NOISE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO A NEARBY REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE REAR SPRING FAILED AND PUNCTURED THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,282. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE REAR COIL SPRINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL MAKING NOISES, AND THE CONTACT WAS TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER. THE CONTACT HAS THE REPAIR INVOICE. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THAT GETTY SERVICE THE WRONG PART ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO WALLS FORD AND THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT HE REPAIRED REAR STRUTS AND REAR SHOCK ABSORBER. THE SWAY BAR LINKS WERE REPLACED. UPDATED 05/04/07*TR
WITHOUT WARNING, ONE REAR SPRING FAILED UPON ENTERING VEHICLE WHILE PARKED. ALTHOUGH SOUND WAS HEARD, RESPONSIBLE FAILED ITEM WAS UNKNOWN AT TIME. METALLIC NOISE CONSTANTLY EMITTED UPON LEAVING DRIVEWAY. IMMEDIATELY DROVE 10 MILES TO DEALER WITHOUT INCIDENT. SPRING FAILURE RESULTED IN GROOVE IN REAR TIRE REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. BOTH SPRINGS WERE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT PER DEALER. CURRENTLY, NOISE IS EMITTED FROM TRUNK AREA, DEALER WANTS TO REPLACE STRUTS. NO WORK DONE YET. REPORTED TO FORD TODAY AS WELL. *TR
OWN A 2000 TAURUS SES WITH 68,000 MILES. WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN GARAGE, MY WIFE AND I JUST GOT HOME WITH OUR PICK UP, WE GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK AND WE HEARD A LOUD SHOT LIKE NOISE. I LOOKED AROUND UNDER THE TAURUS AND FOUND THAT THE RIGHT REAR COIL SPRING FRACTURED. HAVING A FAMILY WE WERE THANKFUL THAT WE WERE NOT DRIVING IT AT THE TIME. *JB
2000 TAURUS: ALL 4 SPRINGS HAVE BROKEN, THE FRONT 2 WERE REPLACED UNDER RECALL. THE BACK ONES HAD TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE OF $600.00. *JB

THERE WERE NO PREVIOUS FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE. IT FAILED THE NY STATE INSPECTION DUE TO THE CRACKED SUSPENSION SYSTEM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2000 AND THE 2001 VEHICLES WERE UNDER DEFECT INVESTIGATION, #PE05054, OPENED ON 01/24/2006 AND CLOSED ON 2/5/2007. THE NY STATE INSPECTION DEPARTMENT CONSIDERED IT A HAZARD. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,968. *AK

LEFT REAR COIL SPRING IS BROKEN, CAUSING SAFETY CONCERN REGARDING POSSIBLE TEARING OF TIRE BY BROKEN SPRING. THIS EXACT SITUATION CAUSED A RECALL BY FORD OF FRONT SPRINGS BUT THEY REFUSE TO EXTEND TO REARS. *JB

THE CONTACT LEARNED THIS BECAUSE THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE, AND WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS ON THE LIFT, THE CONTACT FOUND THAT BOTH COILS FRACTURED. TL * THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND HEARD VIBRATION IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE REQUIRED REPLACING THE REAR SPRINGS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WERE ONLY TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FRONT SPRINGS ,AND THAT HE WOULD REPLACE THE REAR COIL SPRINGS AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE REAR SPRINGS WERE REPLACED. TL*- CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS, AND WHILE THE CONTACT HEARD A CLANKING G SOUND. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LOCAL MECHANIC, AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT A SHARP JAGGED EDGE OF THE COIL SPRING GOUGED THE INNER SIDE WALL OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE AND SNAPPED. THE RIGHT REAR COIL SPRING SNAPPED AS WELL, BUT THE SPRING WAS NOT INTO THE TIRE. THE CURRENT AN D FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 87600.*AK UPDATED 04/12/07. *JB
2000 FORD TAURUS - WHILE DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET NEAR MY HOME, THE REAR SUSPENSION SPRING BROKE AND PROTRUDED INTO THE REAR TIRE CAUSING THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE TO BE DAMAGED. THIS EVENT HAPPENED AT A LOW SPEED AND THE CAR WAS STOPPED AS SOON AS THE NOISE WAS HEARD. THERE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE TIMING OF THE FAILURE AT LOW SPEED AND THE DRIVER'S REACTION TIME. AT THE TIME OF THIS COMPLAINT, THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN FIXED YET AS IT ONLY OCCURRED ONE DAY AGO. I WAS ALARMED WHEN I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME TYPE OF FAILURE. OBVIOUSLY THE REAR SPRING DESIGN ON THESE CARS ARE DEFECTIVE, RESULTING IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF THEY FAIL AT HIGH SPEED. I WAS FORTUNATE COMPARED TO OTHER REPORTS I HAVE READ. *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT KNOB IN HER 2000 FORD TAURUS (89000 FAILURE MILEAGE), CAME OFF AND WILL NO LONGER STAY ON. THERE IS A RECALL (01V078000) OUT FOR THE SAME FAILURE, BUT THIS VEHICLE WASN'T INCLUDED.
THE REAR LEFT SPRING HAD BROKEN OFF AT THE BOTTOM BY THE SUPPORT. THE CAR WAS DRIVABLE. BUT OUT OF CONCERN, I WENT TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. ALSO THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT A STABILIZER BAR BOLT WAS MISSING. SO I AUTHORIZED THEM TO REPLACE THE SPRINGS, STRUTS AND STABILIZER BARS TO THE TUNE OF 1000$. I CAN VERIFY THE EXACT AMOUNT BY RECEIPT. UNFORTUNATELY I DIDN'T TAKE PICTURES OR SAVE THE OLD PARTS. *NM
DRIVER SIDE REAR COIL SPRING BROKE. BROKEN COIL SPRING HAD A POINTED SHARP EDGE.........COULD HAVE PUNCTURED TIRE. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT 2000 FORD TAURUS SES, HAS PROBLEMS WITH SPRING COILS. HE STATED THAT 2 YEARS AGO, WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 30 MPH HAD THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLOWOUT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE PUT A SPARE ON THE VEHICLE , AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TIRE DEALER TO REPLACE THE TIRE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THIS TIRE DIDN'T BLOW OUT, BUT THAT THE REASON FOR THE FAILURE WAS THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SPRING COIL FRACTURED AND IT PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP , AND AND HE WAS INFORMED THAT THEIR WAS A RECALL ON COIL SPRINGS, CAMPAIGN # 04V332000. THE FORD DEALERSHIP DID REPLACE BOTH OF THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS AND ADDED SHIELDS. THE CONTACT STATED HE TOOK VEHICLE IN 01/24/06 TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE SOME BODY WORK DONE. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HIS REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE HAS A GOUGE GROVE AROUND IT WHERE THE COIL SPRING HAS DAMAGE THE TIRE AND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SPRING IS BROKEN, AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THIS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM, AND ITWAS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR BOTH FRONT AND BACK COIL SPRINGS. *AK
I OWN A 2000 FORD TAURUS MODEL SES AND HAVE ENCOUNTERED SUSPENSION PROBLEMS AS RELATED TO THE COIL SPRINGS. TWO YEARS AGO THE LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED MY LEFT FRONT TIRE WHILE DRIVING AND I NEARLY HIT A UTILITY POLE. I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL AND BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRINGS WERE REPLACED BY FORD DEALER. YESTERDAY, WHILE MY CAR WAS AT THE BODY SHOP, THEY NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN AND IT HAS CUT A GROOVE INTO THE TIRE AND WILL CAUSE THE SAME DANGEROUS ACTION AS THE FRONT COIL DID TWO YEARS AGE. I MIGHT NOT HAD BEEN AS LUCKY THIS TIME, DEPENDING ON WHERE AND AT WHAT SPEED I WAS DRIVING, IF I HAD NOT HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE BODY SHOP AND THEY HAD NOT FOUND THE DEFECT. IT IS AMAZING TO ME THAT FORD MOTOR CORP.,WOULD NOT HAVE RECALLED THE REAR COIL SPRINGS, THE SAME AS THEY DID FOR THE FRONT. THEY ARE BASICALLY THE SAME CONFIGURATION, AND PERFORM THE SAME FUNCTION AS THE FRONT COILS, DID THEY NOT THINK THAT IT WOULD NOT BE THE SAME OUTCOME. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND MOST LIKELY DEATH IN MANY INSTANCES. THE REAL PROBLEM IS THAT THE OWNER IS UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS. I DID NOT KNOW OR HAVE ANY INKLING, IN EITHER CASE, THAT THE SPRINGS WERE BROKE. TL*- WHILE DRIVING THE 2000 FORD TAURUS ON A SECONDARY ROAD THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, ASSUMING THAT SHE HIT A BUMP ON THE ROAD SHE CONTINUED TO DRIVE. ON 01/22/07 THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND FOR A TIRE ROTATION. AT THE DEALER THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT THE REAR SPRINGS WERE CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN THE CONTACT PICKED UP THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME, SHE WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT SEEM RIGHT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO GET THE STRUTS REPLACED. THE ADVISOR HAD WORKED ON FIVE FORD TAURUS WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME WITH THE SAME FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117000, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118000.*AK UPDATED 03/30/07. *JB

IN THE SUMMER OF 2006 I TOOK MY 2000 FORD TAURUS SE IN TO GET THE BRAKES CHECKED. AUTO MECHANIC INFORMED ME THE REAR SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING, SPRINGS BROKEN. LAST WEEKEND (1/13/07) I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR A COUPLE OF NEW TIRES. THIS AUTO MECHANIC ALSO INFORMED ME REAR SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND ADVISED OF DANGER OF REAR TIRES BEING PUNCTURED AND BLOWN OUT. TECHNICIAN ACTUALLY SHOWED ME BROKEN SPRINGS. WERE VERY RUST AND POINTED. GOT NEW REAR SPRINGS, STRUTS, SWAY BAR, ALIGNMENT FOR A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $800.00. THIS CAR HAS LESS THAN 40,000 MILES! *JB

I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALER WHO TOLD ME FORD WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIR BUT THAT I SHOULD KEEP MY REPAIR BILL IN CASE THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE REAR COILS IN THE FUTURE. THE SUGGESTION WAS THAT I MIGHT BE ABLE TO OBTAIN REIMBURSEMENT FROM FORD. THE CAR WAS TOWED ON A FLAT BED TRUCK TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED BOTH REAR STRUT/SPRING ASSEMBLIES AND SWAY PINS AND ALIGNED THE CAR. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE METAL IN THE PARTS USED BY FORD IS SUBSTANDARD. HE SAID THAT THE TIRE WAS NOT DAMAGED BUT WOULD HAVE BEEN PUNCTURED HAD I DRIVEN THE CAR ANY DISTANCE. HE ALSO CHECKED THE FRONT COILS WHICH WERE SUBJECT TO RECALL IN 2004 & SAID THEY WERE "OKAY". I DO NOT HAVE THE DEFECTIVE PART. THE REPAIR COST ME $979.00. I OWN A 2000 FORD TAURUS. I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A FRONT SPRING FAILURE WHICH WAS EFFECTED BY A RECALL. DURING THE REPAIR, I WAS NOTIFIED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF MY LOCAL FORD DEALER OF A CRACKED REAR COIL SPRING. THE SAME FAILURE RECURRED ON DECEMBER 21, AND AGAIN ON DECEMBER 23, 2006. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE GOT IN THE CAR THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR DID NOT ALLOW HER TO EXTEND THE SEAT BELT. NOTICED WITHIN LAST 2000 MILES THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP AND JERK WHEN DRIVING UP STEEP GRADES OR SHARP TURNS, WHEN IT WOULD ATTEMPT TO DOWNSHIFT FROM 3RD TO 2ND. IT FAILED COMPLETELY LAST NIGHT WHILE DRIVING HOME, FORTUNATELY WE WERE ONLY 3 MILES FROM OUR HOME. NOW IT WILL ONLY GO 25 MPH AND HAS A BURNING ODOR. IT HAS 103K MILES AND THE AUTO TRANS WAS SERVICED (FILTER/FLUID CHANGED) EVERY 35K MILES. WE WILL GET AN ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT, HOWEVER I SUSPECT A BILL FROM $1500-2200 IS IN ORDER. 2000 TAURUS DRIVERS DOOR HANDLES FAILED. *TS SEVERAL TIMES, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL COVERED UNDER IT'S EXTENDED WARRANTY, THE CONSUMER HAD TO HAVE THE DRIVER' S DOOR OPEN ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER CLAIMED THAT MOISTURE GOT INTO THE LOCKS. THE DEALER SPRAYED THE LOCKS. DURING THE WINTER OF 2004 AND 2005 THE CONSUMER HAD TO HOLD THE DOOR WHILE DRIVING UNTIL THE LOCK THAWED ENOUGH TO CLOSE PROPERLY. THE CONSUMER ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR NOT UNLOCKING. NOW ALL FOUR DOOR HANDLES ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. *NM

THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE HOW LONG THE COIL SPRINGS WERE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THAT THEY WOULD CONSULT WITH A FORD REPRESENTATIVE AND TRY TO FIND A RESOLUTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT FRACTURED COIL SPRINGS COULD POSE A SERIOUS RISK TO SAFETY WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 11824 MILES.
