WATER LEAK INTO PASSENGER SIDE OF PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, RESULTING IN FAILURE OF MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, INCLUDING BLOWER MOTOR. REFERENCE NTSB ITEM # 10011149 / SERVICE BULLETIN NBR 031506. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH OVER A SMALL DIP IN THE ROAD AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE ON THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE STEERING WHEEL EXHIBITED A PULLING MOTION. THE FRONT COIL SPRING DISENGAGED, BOUNCED ONTO THE ROAD AND OVER THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURES OR DAMAGES. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING. AN INDEPENDENT TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAS CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE TIRES IS BIG O ASPEN AND THE TIRE SIZE IS P215/60R16. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TREAD ON THE DRIVER-SIDE FRONT TIRE SEPARATED. SHE HAD THE TIRE REPLACED ACCORDING TO RECALL# 06T027000 (TIRES: TREAD/BELT, TIRE LINE / TIRE). AFTER THE REPAIR THE THREE REMAINING TIRES FAILED IDENTICALLY. THE BLOW OUTS INCREASED HER RISK FOR VEHICLE CRASH. THE TIRE FACILITY DENIED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAILURES, SO SHE HAD TO BEAR THE EXPENSE TO REPLACE THEM. THE DOT NUMBERS OF THE TIRES WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,111. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 97,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. WHILE IN REVERSE, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PRESSURE BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS FLAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING AND THE TIRE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE COIL SPRING FRACTURED AND PUNCTURED THE FLAT TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE ON MY 2002 FORD TAURUS SEDAN. DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE DAMAGED. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT OF THROTTLE CABLE BECOMING STUCK AND CAUSING ACCELERATION TOOK PLACE WHILE MERGING ONTO I-25 FROM UNIVERSITY BLVD IN DENVER, CO. ACCELERATED TO HIGHWAY SPEED (60 MPH), HOWEVER, ONCE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NO LONGER DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UP TO APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH. EXITED INTERSTATE AT COLORADO BLVD AND HAD TO APPLY HEAVY PRESSURE TO BRAKE PEDAL AS THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO TRY TO ACCELERATE. RPM'S WERE ABOUT 5,000 WHILE STOPPED, AND ONCE BRAKE PEDAL WAS RELEASED THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN ACCELERATED WITHOUT HE ACCELERATOR BEING DEPRESSED. RPM'S ONCE AGAIN CLIMBED WHEN VEHICLE WAS PUT IN PARK. UPON TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND INSPECTING THE ENGINE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THE THROTTLE CABLE HOUSING WAS BROKEN AND THE THROTTLE CABLE HAD COME LOOSE. TEMPORARY REPAIRS WERE MADE USING A HOSE CLAMP, HOWEVER, THE ACCELERATION HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES (AT LEAST ONCE EVERY FEW MONTHS) SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. THE CABLE HOUSING HAS DEGRADED FURTHER, PROMPTING FIXES TO BE MADE TO THE THROTTLE CABLE WHENEVER AN INCIDENT OCCURS. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE TIRE WITH THE SPARE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STATED THAT THE COIL SPRINGS ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE PUNCTURED THE TIRE, WHICH CAUSED THE BLOW OUT. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS VERY LIKELY TO OCCUR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE; HOWEVER, THERE WERE NO EXISTING RECALLS. THE FRONT ASSEMBLY AND COIL SPRINGS NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 125,000.
FORD TAURUS 2002 STATION WAGON PARKED OVERNIGHT; IN MORNING FOUND THAT THE FRONT LEFT TIRE WAS FLAT. DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRING SURROUNDING THE VERTICAL STRUT HAD BROKEN , PUNCTURED THE TIRE...RIPPED GASH THAT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. REQUIRED NEW FRONT STRUTS COIL SPRINGS AND SWAY BARS AND A NEW TIRE...TOTAL COST WAS APPRX $1200. MECHANIC REPORTS THAT HEW HAS SEEN THIS BEFORE . QUESTION ? DEFECTIVE REAR COIL SPRINGS ON A 2002 FORD TAURUS. $1,000 PLUS CAUSED ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO REAR STRUTS. *TR
I OWN A 2002 FORD TAURUS AND UNDERSTAND MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. MY A/C BLOWER MOTOR STOPPED WORKING AND WAS FILLED WITH WATER WITH TRACES OF RUST. I REPLACED THE BLOWER CONTROL SWITCH, THE BLOWER RESISTOR BOARD, AND REMOVED AND REBUILT THE BLOWER MOTOR. THE AUTO PARTS STORE I BOUGHT THE REPLACEMENT COMPONENTS FROM (DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE FORD DEALER) TELLS ME THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. *TR
1. THE 2002 TAURUS WAS PURCHASED NEW AND WE HAVE HAD NO UNUSUAL INCIDENTS, ACCIDENTS, OR FAILURES. 2. THE 2002 TAURUS WITH LESS THEN 60,000 MILES WAS PARKED WHEN THE REAR SPRING SNAPPED. THE EDGE OF THE SPRING CUT THE REAR TIRE CAUSING THE TIRE TO FAIL. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED WITH THE VEHICLE PARKED AND UNOCCUPIED. YES WE RETAINED BOTH OF THE (FAILED) REAR SPRINGS. 3. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOED TO THE FORD DEALER. WE HAD BOTH REAR SPRINGS REPLACED. WHEN ASKED IF THERE WAS A DESIGN CHANGE ON THE SPRING ALL WE WERE TOLD WAS TO DRIVE WITH CAUTION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE CITY STREETS IN MINNEAPOLIS. I CROSSED SOME RAILROAD TRACKS GOING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. THE TRACKS WERE WELL CONCEALED AND DID NOT CAUSE THE CAR TO BOUNCE. I HEARD A LOUD METALLIC NOISE AND PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY. ONCE I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT I NOTICED THAT MY FRONT END ON THE DRIVER SIDE WAS SAGGING, AND THE WHEEL WELL WAS RESTING ON THE TIRE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT COIL HAD SNAPPED AND SLAMMED DOWN ONTO THE STABILIZER LINK, BREAKING IT. THANKFULLY I WAS GOING SLOW ENOUGH, AND THERE WAS NOT MUCH TRAFFIC SO THERE WERE NO OTHER INCIDENTS CAUSED BY THE FAILURE OF THE SPRING COIL. THE BILL TO REPAIR THE STABILIZER LINK AND THE COILS WILL TOTAL APPROXIMATELY $400, PLUS $100 FOR THE TOW, SINCE THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE IN SAID CONDITION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE. AFTER EXAMINING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING HAD BROKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE COIL SPRING WAS REPLACED. ONE YEAR AFTER THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BECAME FLAT BECAUSE THE COIL SPRING HAD BROKEN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,000.

SIMILAR TO THE RECENT FORD ESCAPE RECALL, THE CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE BEING STUCK IN FULL THROTTLE. THE ONLY EFFECTIVE WAY TO SAFELY SLOW THE VEHICLE WAS TO COMBINE THE STANDARD BRAKES, EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND SWITCHING OFF THE IGNITION. *TR
FORD TAURUS SEL 2002 FRONT COIL SPRING FAILURE. I WAS STOPPED IN FRONT OF A SPEED BUMP TO LET PEOPLE CROSS THE STREET, WHEN I ENGAGED ON THE SPEED BUMP AT VERY LOW SPEED( FOOT OF BRAKE PEDAL) THERE WAS A BIG BANG AND THE FRONT OF THE CAR JUST SPLATTERED ON THE STREET. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE TIRE WITH A SPARE AND DROVE TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD LIKE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF IT IS INVOLVED IN THE RECALL FOR THE 1999-2001 MODELS. MY DAUGHTER WAS BACKING OUR 2002 FORD TAURUS OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THE DRIVER'S FRONT COIL SPRING FRACTURED AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE CAUSING A BLOWOUT. FORTUNATELY THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN ON THE INTERSTATE WHERE THE CONSEQUENCES MAY HAVE BEEN MUCH HIGHER. *TR

UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, SHE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING FRACTURED AND DAMAGED THE TIRE. I WOKE UP IN THE MORNING TO GO TO MY CAR AND FOUND THAT THE TIRE ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE HAD A FLAT TIRE. MY SON WENT TO HELP ME PUT ON THE SPARE TIRE, BUT AFTER HE TOOK THE FLAT TIRE OFF HE SAW THAT IT HAD BEEN PUNCTURED ODDLY, AND SAW THAT THE CAUSE OF THE PUNCTURE WAS A BROKEN COIL SPRING WHICH IS PART OF THE STRUTS. THE COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN SO BADLY THAT IT HAD A SHARP POINT WHERE IT WAS BROKEN, AND A CENTER PORTION- ABOUT 4 TO 5 INCHES OF THE SPRING ACTUALLY HAD BEEN BROKEN OFF COMPLETELY. THE WHOLE FRONT END OF THE CAR FELL AND ALMOST BROKE HIS HAND WHILE HE WAS EXAMINING THIS, LUCKILY HE WAS QUICK ENOUGH TO MOVE HIS HAND AWAY. HE WAS ABLE TO PUT THE SPARE TIRE ON, BUT THE COIL SPRING WAS ACTUALLY TOUCHING AND RUBBING ON TOP OF THE SPARE TIRE. I DROVE THE CAR, VERY CAUTIOUSLY AND SLOWLY TO A REPAIR SHOP. THEY FOUND THAT ALL MY STRUTS WERE BAD, AND THE COIL SPRING ON THE BACK PASSENGERS' SIDE WAS ALSO BROKEN AND ACTUALLY RUSTING AWAY. THE TOTAL ESTIMATE FOR EVERYTHING,INCLUDING 4 NEW COIL SPRINGS AND STRUTS, NEW TIRE, NEW TIE RODS WAS $1,239 PLUS TAX. I HAD TO HAVE IT FIXED, THERE WASN'T ANY WAY I COULD TAKE THE CHANCE OF DRIVING THIS CAR OUT OF THE REPAIR SHOP. I WAS LAID OFF OF MY JOB THIS PAST JANUARY, SO THIS IS A BIG SET BACK FINANCIALLY FOR ME. I AM LUCKY THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A BAD ACCIDENT. *TR

THE DRIVER NEARLY CRASHED BECAUSE SHE HAD DIFFICULTY MAINTAINING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST MORE THAN $340. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 65,000.
MY 2002 FORD TAURUS SES WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN MY RIGHT REAR COIL SPRING BROKE FOR NO REASON. FORD ONLY OFFERS A RECALL ON TAURUS'S MADE IN 2001 AND BEFORE. OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT SEEM TO IGNORE THAT THE 2002 MODELS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS. THE BREAK ALSO CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO MY TIRE. I AM A 22 YEAR OLD MUSICIAN, FIXING FORD'S MISTAKES ISN'T EXACTLY IN MY BUDGET. *TR

2002 FORD TAURUS LX, RF FRONT SPRING BROKE AT BOTTOM COIL. RF COIL SPRING WAS REPLACED AT MY COST. SAME PROBLEM AS 99-01 TAURUS/SABLE. MY 2002 IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND NEEDS TO BE. COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. BROKEN PIECE WAS VERY CLOSE TO SIDEWALL OF TIRE. *TR
WHEN I GOT INTO MY 2002 FORD TAURUS SES, I PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE. I HEARD A "RUBBING" SOUND FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED AT IT AND DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING. I GOT BACK INTO THE CAR AND PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE. I MOVED FORWARD A COUPLE OF INCHES AND HEARD THE "RUBBING" SOUND AGAIN, FOLLOWED BY A POP. AS IS TURNS OUT, THE SUSPENSION COIL HAD SNAPPED AND THE END OF THE COIL WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE TIRE. IT PUNCTURED THE TIRE AND RENDERED THE CAR IMMOBILE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED YET. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $1200 TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT STRUTS AND BOTH TIRES. THIS COMES LESS THAN TWO MONTHS AFTER I HAD THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SUSPENSION COIL SNAP, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE COSTS TO REPLACE BOTH REAR STRUTS AND TIRES WAS $1148.24. BASED ON COMPLAINTS I READ ONLINE, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AND THE END OF THE SPRING PUNCTURED THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. THE SPRING, STRUT AND STRUT TOWER WERE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE TIRE AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT DONE. REPAIR COSTS TOTAL $425.00. I HAVE THE SPRING FROM THE VEHICLE AND LOOKS LIKE HAD A WEAK/RUST SPOT AT THE BREAK. *TR
BROUGHT VEHICLE TO LOCAL MECHANIC FOR REPLACEMENT OF 2 REAR TIRES. WHILE REPLACING TIRES, MECHANIC DISCOVERED REAR COIL SPRING ON PASSENGER SIDE WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN. ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE VEHICLE, THAT IT WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AT COST OF $911.70. INVOLVED SPRINGS, STRUTS, AND STABILIZERS. *TR
THE FRONT END OF MY 2002 FORD TAURUS HAD BEEN MAKING SOME CREAKING AND GROANING NOISES. WE THOUGHT POSSIBLY THAT IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION, BUT AS I FOUND OUT, IT WASN'T. ON JUNE 7, I HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF THE HIGHWAY TO STOP FOR SOMETHING ON MY WAY TO WORK, AND AS I PULLED INTO THE PARKING SPACE, I HEARD A LOUD CRACK. I LOOKED TO SEE IF I HAD RUN OVER SOMETHING, AND I STARTED BACK TO WORK. A FEW BLOCKS LATER, THE FRONT LEFT STARTED SMOKING, AND MY TIRE WENT FLAT. I WENT TO JACK THE CAR UP TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED, AND THE FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING HAD SNAPPED. THE SMOKE HAD BEEN COMING FROM THE SPRING RUBBING AGAINST AND ALSO PUNCTURING MY TIRE. I CONSIDER MYSELF VERY LUCKY THAT THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN A FEW MINUTES BEFORE AS I WAS COMING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH, AS MY STEERING WAS GREATLY AFFECTED. WE CHECKED WITH THE FORD DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY SAFETY RECALLS FOR THIS PARTICULAR TYPE OF SITUATION, WHICH I REALIZE NOW IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD. WE BOUGHT NEW SHOCKS/STRUTS FOR BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT OF THE CAR, AND ALSO ARE REPLACING BOTH BALL JOINTS ON EACH SIDE; I ALSO HAVE TO BUY NEW TIRES. *TR
WHILE BACKING UP, I HEARD A TERRIBLE NOISE AND THE CAR DROPPED TO THE GROUND. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE WAS FLAT DUE TO THE SPRING BREAKING AND PUNCTURING THE SIDE WALL OF MY TIRE. MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE SPRINGS, SWAY BAR, STRUTS, AND TIRE. THEY ALSO HAD TO DO A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE OLD PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. *TR

I OWN A 2002 FORD TAURUS SES UNDER 100K MILES. LAST WEEK, WHEN I WAS PULLING OUT FROM THE PARKING LOT OF MY APARTMENT AND THE CAR HAS JUST MOVED INCHES, I SUDDENLY FELT SOMETHING PUNCTURED MY TIRE AND THE TIRE WAS LOSING AIR VERY QUICKLY. I STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND TRIED TO REPLACE THE FLAT TIRE WITH THE SPARE ONE. I THEN FIGURED OUT THAT IT WAS THE BROKEN COIL SPRING OF THE LEFT FRONT SUSPENSION THAT PUNCTURED THE TIRE, WHICH WAS ONLY 20K MILES. *TR

PROBLEMS WITH NOISE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SHUDDERING SOUND WHILE DRIVING COMES AND GOES. PROBLEM WITH CAR RUNNING ROUGH ENGINE POWER DECREASED, SEAM LIKE FUEL IS POOR, SOME MALFUNCTION CAUSING PROBLEMS IN TRAFFIC. THIS MALFUNCTION ALWAYS HAPPENS ON START UP AND DURING REGULAR OPERATING DURING DRIVING. WE HAVE TO KEEP LETTING OFF THE GAS AND GIVING GAS TO TRY MAKE IT RUN RIGHT A HOPE TO HAVE A SMOOTH RIDE. THE POPPING NOISE FROM THE FRONT END ALWAYS HAPPEN DAILY DURING DRIVING WITH NORMAL SPEEDS.
